Scott McClellan, Bush's former press secretary, writes a pretty scathing critique of the Bush administration from the perspective of somebody who saw it first-hand and up-close:
Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan writes in a new memoir that the Iraq war was sold to the American people with a sophisticated "political propaganda campaign" led by President Bush and aimed at "manipulating sources of public opinion" and "downplaying the major reason for going to war."
McClellan includes the charges in a 341-page book, "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception," that delivers a harsh look at the White House and the man he served for close to a decade. He describes Bush as demonstrating a "lack of inquisitiveness," says the White House operated in "permanent campaign" mode, and admits to having been deceived by some in the president's inner circle about the leak of a CIA operative's name.
Let the White House spinning in response begin! So let's remember what Bush said when McClellan left: "He handled his assignments with class, integrity. He really represents the best of his family, our state and our country. It's going to be hard to replace Scott."

The repubs will have their spin cycle nad the Dems will take care of the rinse cycle.OOOOH..YAAAAA!
THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE? or YOU CAN FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE SOME OF THE TIME, BUT NOT ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME?
well in either case maybe us americans could send w and dick to the war crimes tribunal. small gesture on our part to say we're sorry. then, can we american taxpayin' folks get a refund from the likes of the halliburtons?
one addition to above...
w and dick should be liable to our vets. a class action type lawsuit to secure assests from w and dick and rove and a few others who should be included to compensate our finest for their blood, sweat, and tears ... or to their families.
that and above would be an "american justice."
Beam them all to prison Scottie!
Quote from a blogger at Washington Post re: McClellan.
McClellan may or may not be telling the whole story, but if Rove is denying the info in the book, the stories must be close to the truth. Why would Rove think he has any credibility? Can he be that out of touch with reality? I work for a government agency where we say "Don't Rove me." When someone is telling BS or trying to pin a lower level employee with blame for stuff done by a supervisor.
(emphasis mine)
yep, the w's whitehouse is already spinn' ... saying somethin' to the effect that scott is not the person he was before ... yep, and he doesn't want to be either. "THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE" stay the course scott. you're FREE!
I guess they didn't pay him enough. They, Rove miscalculated. Rove is slipping!
Scotty must think Rove is going to be indicted at some point and is setting himself up to be a key witness for the prosecution.
It will be nice to see how a key White House spokesperson performs on the witness stand versus the rest of the Bush crime family mouthpieces. I can see Dana Perino getting herself caught up in one lie after another...and playing the dumb blonde.
Speaking of which, what is the Swiftboating group that Ari Fleisher heads up working on these days? Was the Rev. Wright offensive his mastermind?
And how is the new CNN correspondent, Tony Snowjob, working out? I haven't seen him since he moved over to the other side of the 24/7 universe.
Apparently Catie Couric was the only media type to admit that she was pressured from the higher ups not to be tough on Bush. She also mentioned the fact that the media is owned by major corporations.
Charlie Gibson, good ole Charlie, is a sell-out. Says he sees none of it the media did a good job in the lead up to the war. Right Charlie just like you did a good job at the last debate.
CNN needs to clean up its act. Hiring former bush appointees makes CNN look sleazy.
Oh yeah...that's brilliant. Sue the president for his assets you say? And what will that REALLY do for anyone? Money is not everything, and money will not heal anything. But, you are right about one thing. It is justice American style. We are such a lawsuit happy country, it's disgraceful.
cnn "Green Beret electrocuted in shower on Iraq base"
suppose w and dick ever have to worry about being electrocuted while serving their country? both have cush arangements at taxpayer expense. and w and dick served this country? we american taxpayers were sold a story. sent our finest, yet they weren't sent with the finest supplies either. yep, a lawsuit. except it'll never happen.
Well at least Scott McClellan is starting to tell the truth about Crawford, Texas's village idiot. I say maybe Scott decided he wants to be a human being and told us how incompetent his bosses really are. It's terrible that the Green Beret was electrocuted in his own bathroom in Iraq. But unfortunely you can't sue the President when he is in office. You would have to wait until he becomes an private citizen again to go after him.
american 1st, I would love to send both Bush and Cheney to an war crime tribunal. But also to the World Court and let the rest of the world as well as us decide their fate.
Rover has been slipping ever since junior decided he doesn't need his tongue where Rover has had it for the past decades.
I started reading "Bush Tragedy" and have come to the chapter on Rover and the puppy love he has had for junior. Sickening.
The chickens are coming home to roost. Junior will be seen as the worst president in U.S. history and most of it is not even his fault. He should have never been (s)elected - he had already proven himself a failure long before 2000. I hope this country learns a valuable lesson.
darien,
trust me. you're not alone in the feelings of sending w and dick and their clan to a tribunal. what a great way for americans to say we're sorry to the rest of the world for those who in america who voted to elect this crime family.
and, while we're at it, some form of reimbursement from the likes of the halliburtons to 1st our finest, vets, and then the remainder to us honest taxpayin' americans. surely that could be one well felt rebate check to spend here, helping our economy rebuild.
I am ashamed of my democrat party leaders in the House and Senate, for not having impeachment proceedings against Bush and Chaney for their lying us into this Iraq war, they have pretty much ruined our standing around the world. Actually the top bunch in the White House should be tried for crimes against humanity in the world court for the million or so innocent Iraqi men, women and children killed in this war.
It is my wish that the Congress select a new leader, Nancy is just not the leader I hoped she would be.
