Schwarzenegger refuses to jump on board McCain’s offshore drilling proposal:
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made a veiled swipe at Republican presidential hopeful John McCain on Thursday when he said at a climate conference here that anyone suggesting offshore oil drilling could bring down gas prices was "blowing smoke."
The remark was also a dig at his host, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who riled environmentalists, tourism promoters and the state's political leaders on both sides of the aisle last week when he voiced support for McCain's proposal to lift bans on exploring for oil off the coasts of California, Florida and the Eastern Seaboard.

Arnold thinks that he can have it all ways: wants both parties to back him. And is sort of shamelessly succeeding, with the backing of major corporate sponsors and a terrific spin machine.
TomN,
Arnold certainly knows how to ring all the right bells.
But I'm wondering if his association with the Republican Party is not going to be his undoing. He can only push his marriage to the Kennedy family so far.
If there is a landslide for Democrats, he has no where to go as a Republican. He got into office on a fluke (recall). He would have to win as a Republican for any other office besides the one he's in now.
Californians are not in a Republican frame of mind.
And running as a Independent for Congress would cut him off from funding from either Party.
Arnold will probably turn Democrat.
I don't think he likes to associate with those he considers losers. He set out to be part of Camelot long before he met Maria. If being a Democrat is the only way he aan fully achieve that goal, he'll do it.
That sounds like being an opportunist? That's because he's a Republican at heart.
arnie behaves more like a democrat. it got him (re)elected in a demo state. today a republican in ca doesn't conjure the meaning of a party, but what exists after the elephant ate to much and deposited a heap of dung left for its members to contend with ... smell and sight are not wanted. great job w!
