now this is funny. we are going to go from not being allowed to bring mouthwash to the airport to being able to strap your glock on and eat some burritos while you wait for your kid to arrive home from college for the thanksgiving holiday...well on the other hand the price of aviation fuel may mean no one will be flying so why not turn the terminals into shooting ranges?? ya gotta love this country!!
ATLANTA - The nation's busiest airport dueled with gun rights advocates Tuesday over whether a new Georgia state law allows visitors to carry firearms at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
City officials in charge of the airport declared it a "gun free zone" when the new law took effect Tuesday. Gun rights supporters, including a state legislator who helped pass the law, quickly filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the designation...

Good evening, all.
Michael,
Regarding the Buck Smith Heh story...you're telling me that sally* might not be Santa Claus?
I was sure that's why he had so much personal knowledge of the North Pole/global warming issue and that his skunk-skinning business was just a cover up.
Next you'll be telling us that the blog will be fixed soon.

So now you're trying to tell me that the Japanese are radical Islamic terrorist sympathizers? I'm crushed. Bin Lauden has got to be one great salesman.

my biggest regret over this ridiculous airport security, is the fact that I had to stop bringing back California wines. (many times 2-Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's)
I have given up mascara, toothpaste, corkscrews, 2-oz bottles of liquids because they were blank and didn't say what was in them! Had to take off my sandals even though they didn't even have any heels! Those security people are power hungry, that's for sure.

Cate,
Think of the DNC blog as your personal MySpace/Facebook place for journaling.
Since we can no longer have any real discussion about issues, why not avail yourself of this blog as a word processer where you can prose over life's great mysteries...

"President Bush expressed confidence Tuesday he will reach a deal with Congress on a housing-rescue plan, but only if lawmakers show "less politics."
F**k you asshole. Who is playing politics. He has politized every federal agency.
"I think we can get us a bill," Bush said. "But it's going to require less politics and more focus on keeping our minds on who we need to help, and that's the homeowner."
Bush made his quick stop at the nonprofit housing agency in between two fundraisers.
By dropping in a bit of official business, the White House defrayed the cost of the trip for candidates and state parties and made the trip less overtly political. Ultimately, taxpayers end up paying most of the bill for any political travel by the president.
Thanks asshole for sticking the taxpayers with your expenses. What a prick.
In Mississippi, Bush led a closed fundraiser for Sen. Roger Wicker, the former congressman who was appointed to Trent Lott's vacated seat. Wicker is competing in a Nov. 4 election against Democrat Ronnie Musgrove to fill the remaining four years of Lott's term.
Wicker's campaign manager, Austin Barbour, said no fundraising totals were available for the Mississippi event. But with roughly 500 people attending the $1,000-a-ticket luncheon, the total raised was expected to be at least $500,000 for Wicker and other state Republicans.
Wicker was among the Republicans who bucked Bush in this election year by voting for the farm bill. The president said the massive $290 billion bill was bloated with spending, including farmer subsidies. He vetoed the measure, but Congress overrode him.
In Little Rock, Ark., Bush also led a private fundraiser for the Arkansas Republican Party. Tickets were $150; a photo-op package with Bush cost $5,000. No immediate fundraising totals were available.
On his way out of Little Rock, Bush had his motorcade stop unexpectedly. He hopped out of his limousine to join a young girl's birthday party outside, delighting the surprised neighborhood as he posed for pictures.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I'll bet they were pissed that bush interrupted their birthday party. What a maroon. It's almost like the scene from "European Vacation" where Chevy Chase barged into a German home and spent the night. When he was driving away the German couple turned to each other and said. "Who the hell was that?" The husband answered "Beats the shit out of me."
Bush: Housing deal possible with 'less politics'

EVERY Defense Lawyer in the Country is jumping on that Scalito ruling. They will eventually open all the prison doors because anybody convicted of a gun crime will appeal.
Other wingnut factions are already jumping on the bandwagon including Princess Cindy and her Booze Emporium PAC (which has been lobbying to shut down M.A.D.D. for years.
So NOW (TAAAAH-DAAAH!!!) the MANTRA is "If 18 Year Olds are old enough to own a gun, they are old enough to carry a gun AND drink in bars.
This ALWAYS happens, and for the same reasons.
During the Viet Nam "Conflict" it was "Old enough to kill, but not for voting", so it was no wonder that the 26th Amendment covering 18 year old voting rights went into effect the same election cycle. It was ELECTION time and Nixon was (until that time, as opposed to today) the WORST President this Country had ever seen. AND there was a politically manipulated, micro-managed so-called "war" with ZERO Congressional Approval, NO defined goal, and NO exit Strategy
So here we are today, with a MAJOR P.O.S. pretending to be ("something")and an unnecessary War of choice, except This time it is for PURE GREED, and nearly 4,200 American Military have DIED for this little crack head booze hound's little fantasy and dream of "Legacy" and now the Scalito Court opens up the prisons and the McSame's WIN!!
NO gun violations convictions, and Drink UP, Prom Queen!!!
"If we can walk around with a gun, WHY can't we drink?!?!?!?!!!!
(Pick your wingnut petition of choice.)
Just another PUG set up to muddy the waters for President OBAMA.

O.K.
If 18-year-olds are old enough to kill somebody in a bar with a gun while they are drinking, why aren't you old enough to take drugs, too?
Where has our legalized drug advocate gone? He used to post some interesting links. I didn't always agree with his opinions, but you don't usually get to hear such arguments unless you're in the movement.
So, did a ground swell of support rise up and protest that McCain was slandered by Clark today? I didn't hear a big outcry. Even Andrea Mitchell didn't seem to disagree with Clark.
Meanwhile McCain left the country not wanting to examine his own military strategist credentials too closely (and pick up some drugs in Columbia?).
I say we get Geraldo to head off to Hanio to interview that North Vietnamese guard that endorsed McCain for president. O'Reilley would go nuts.

18 year olds, and 17 year olds (with their parents permission) are getting killed, and maimed in a dirty "war" brought on by the lies of the Bushiato. They are already handling automatic weapons, missile launchers, and learning that the video games they played have nothing to do with reality. They growing up far too fast, faster than they can handle in many cases.
Let's get them out of this mess before you go off the deep end on something that should be handled on a local level.

Pam,
Flying the friendly skies has become such a miserable experience that they should pay us to fly. Soon we will be down to only one airline operating (sort of) just like in the old Soviet Union.
This is where the GOP has taken this country; and they see nothing wrong with it, because they all have private jets that the taxpayer subsidizes with corporate tax write-offs.
Let the free market determine what we get?
The Republicans are so incompetent that they actually think we enjoy being tortured. Abu Graibe is their model of utopia...with them as the torturers. Sick, sick people.

Casinos going green to save energy, money
During daytime, half the casino's lighting comes from skylights. Drinks are served only in glasses: no cans or bottles. Some gamblers are smoking, but the air isn't thick with smoke. And, outside, the roof of Bourbons 72 restaurant sports day lilies, ferns and leafy hostas.
...
n April, the Palazzo Las Vegas resort became the world's largest building project to receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, certificate from the U.S. Green Building Council. CityCenter, a resort complex under construction in Las Vegas, is among at least 10 casino-related projects nationwide seeking certification.
It's a hoax, those aren't real day lilies - they're fake. That's where Saddam hid his WMD's.

In "The Varieties of Religious Experience," William James distinguishes between healthy, life-affirming religion and the monastically inclined, "morbid-minded" religion of the sick-souled. Global warming is sick-souled religion.
Posted by Sally*Sally* on July 1, 2008 at 09:50 PM
This is the best you can offer up tonight. A lot of mumbo jumbo?
The only religious explanation of global warming that your Base relates to can be found with the Great Flood and Noah. You underestimate their commitment to saving the environment.
Obama is running circles around you GOP hypocrites. He's meeting the issue you raised about his faith head on and finding receptive audiences among the evangelicals.
While McCain can only talk about his faith in terms of the Almighty Dollar while giving lip service to the poor and those in financial distress because of this Bush economy...same thing with the environment. His lack of sincerity is showing badly.
By attacking Obama on something he really understands you played right into his hands. He's proven to me he's really more than a match for any terrorist or rouge nation (or any Republican dirty tricks operative). And he doesn't get scared and panic when challenged either.
You better keep on attacking to his strengths. He's proving not to have any weaknesses he can't overcome.
I mean this most sincerely when I say that the American people are desperately looking for something better than they have now and they are beginning to see it...even though they have to get past their prejudices to do it.
No more jokes and wise cracks for me tonight. This election cycle is starting to get dead serious. You better groom you candidate because he doesn't see to understand what is at stake.
Cliques and cute little gimmicks are not going to cut it this time around. Nor will falling back on the glory of one man’s past military service cut it when you Republican’s take for granted the sacrifices of today’s volunteer army. We have modern-day heroes to look to for our inspiration.
Good night, all.

"What are words for, when no one listens anymore?"
by Missing People
Seems no one knows or is even listening this last 24 hours on the mainstream media. One comentator after another seems to miss the point General Clark was making! Were they all trying to be politically correct or were they intimidated again? Were they confused by the spin gestapo? Were they paid off? What? Then finally, one, two, three fired back in a good, strong, coherent, logical way in front of the American audience. They realized simply that no apology was necessary. Wesley Clark is right.
A little history lesson - 1. The problems in Viet Nam actually started toward the end of Ike's term and decisions were already being made to take action. 2. John McCain will never be Ike, Ike was a general in WW2, remember? A Five Star General, get it? John McCain will never be Patton, Patton was a general too. There is a difference between being in a rice paddy or on a PT boat and earning the stripes and stars of a Five Star General. Let's level this out, for example, what about all the 4000 plus heroes that are not making it home alive? They are all as great as any POW or MIA or horribly wounded, or DEAD. They are all equally a tragic loss, precious living people murdered in a sinful war. War is mass murder, is sick, is wrong. From the first philosophical premise, from the git go, murder is a sin of society and against a commandment. War is a last resort in DEFENSE after all negotiating and international options fail. It is a failure, a failure to keep the peace. Not keeping the peace means pain and violence...the loss of a society to function, loss of property, loss of life, loss of customs, language, culture, knowledge, civilized living...and it can happen to anyone in any socio-economic category, when a bomb falls.
The guys who have earned the five stars, they know how to strategize and they have to worry about calling the shots right. Ike had to know that, Patton had to know that, Clark had to know that and that is what generals do. There have been many fine soldiers and many fine officers and many fine generals, what was McCain? He was one of thousands of guys that had to go fight in the Viet Nam war and it was not pretty and it was not fun. Many of us lost loved ones and close friends in that war. Each and every name on that memorial we finally got after years was a real person and precious, loved and grieved over by someone. He was lucky he got back alive.
We were trying to get to a point where humanity might possibly overcome the primitive pathological urges toward malignant self destructiveness and mass murder in societal behavior. How? By using our brains, by peace treaties that would be kept in mutual trust that would be lasting and true, not for altruistic reasons or "liberal" (now a political label and a dirty word made by right wing talk show hosts in mass communications), reasons, but knowing what the consequences of lies and broken promises would bring and that war is no longer an option that we can afford or a risk we can take because it is really bad for our health on this planet, that we need intelligent management of the planet with awareness and fairness, innovation, caring, sharing and compassion.. a civilized intelligent understanding of the gift of being human...the ability to avoid failure and build a quality of life worth living, free of disease and pain and hunger among all living things.
In other words, the Golden Rule of Christ, the Karmic Law of the ancients realizing that we all feel the same pain and "to do unto others as ye would have done unto you" because it all comes back to you, you can make this Heaven or you can make this Hell by your own thoughts and actions and that is a universal principal pervading all civilizations in nature and in time.
But then, I remember too well sitting in church and listening to the whispered gossip in the pews behind me about the social club or who got a new bigbrand washing machine last week, who had the best and biggest house on the hill, all during the minister's opening prayer. They never listened on Sunday, were out doing just what the minister said not to do by Monday. They only went to look good in the hood. They were always good at following the leader, not to worry what the leader meant, just go along with it...and then there was that one kid that got up and said "do not ever read anything outside of this cover and this cover" meaning the front and back flap of the King James version of the Holy Bible that is a 16th century English created translation of the Talmud and Torah which is another set of verses handed down partly as the Old Testement and now we have found the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hamadi and Apocrophal scriptures buried in the sands, and so I cannot figure out how anyone educated at all as to the scientific facts of 2008 can be satisfied to follow that guy, but if so, do you all know how to doe see doe and alaman right into WW3 and I suppose you will call it Armageddon not even knowing the history of Meddigo or Masada or where it is? And would you really dance off a cliff and fall because of your mythological beliefs? Yes, mythological because totally bastardized by the time James created this in the 16th century in England from his viewpoint. It is the principles that remain the same in good ethics in all cultures and this is our saving grace.
Ooops, didn't mean to let the big Genie out of the oil lamp...again. Just trying to speak in a little down home repug so that you can all get it into your thick skulls!!!
Please go back and listen to the words and read the lips of General Clark. He was refering to the difference in training and rank and knowing how to be a General, a commander of troops, not a troop member. Getting a purple heart is a mighty deed, but it is not the same as being a five star general. There was nothing wrong with what General Clark said and he had a perfect right to say it respectfully of McCain's rank and service. Petraeus and Powell would have had a perfect right to say it, it has to do with rank and that is all there is to it and furthermore, it had nothing whatsoever to do with anyone else except an individual's qualified experienced opinion when asked.
And so, again, your little planned Repug media attack - the so called (political labeling)of "Obama Surrogate" which was incorrect, (it would have been closer to say former Clinton surrogate), has just backfired simply and logically. It was a nice try on your "Race for the Whitehouse" TV plug Carly, as much as you loved spitting that one out for John, but your attempt to confuse the masses with mixing up issues or putting words into someone's mouth is not about to work.
General Clark is no one's "surrogate", he is a Democrat who happens to be a General who can certainly speak for himself, and what he answered was simple and clear - it's kind of like putting a used car salesman in Seige Perilous, if you know what that is...or are you another deluded dreamy pretender to some golden Versailles-like throne in 2008 in this United States of America? Sadly, even King Ludvig of Bavaria knew better than to mess with that one.
Get down off your ego trip, study some history, and get real. Atleast wake up and figure out which path of good, greedy, or fake intentions leads us all eventually to Heaven or Hell, go for what really works, and stop the hypocracy.
Neither Obama or Wesley Clark made any outrageous statements. Nor did they even speak to each other or collude with each other or do anything but speak individually and separately and it is absurd that you would try to insinuate some planned attack, but in doing so, you revealed yourself as enjoying doing just that. It's just that you do not like what was said (again) by someone, even if it was simply true. No one owes John McCain an apology unless he can shiftshape magically into Dwight D. Eisenhower as badly as you wish he could, so get over it.
I know how you feel, I really wish we still had Tim Russert around. He would have cut this off and cleared this up by now...but as much as I wish he were here I cannot conjure him up and I really miss him at times like this. It isn't fun, it isn't happy, but for so many who have lost a loved one, it is what is and John McCain is not, nor will he ever be "Ike" or like "Ike". It's kind of like...a Cantaloupe and a Kiwi...two separate and completely different things. You may not like it, but the world does not kow tow to you or apologize to your political inventions or definitions or commands, demands or spins.
The American People have had nearly eight years of bull now, and we are tired of being intimidated and misled by twisted logic and labels while watching everything go down the drain in the reality of our daily lives, our economy, our health, our homes, our schools, our roads, and on and on it goes...but you think we need to apologize for our failures...blaming the jobless, when there are no jobs is twisted logic, it is blaming the victims, like blaming Jean Valjean for stealing a loaf of bread when he is starving in the famous story "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo.
But then, would you would say something like "let him eat cake" instead? One can lose one's head over this political language. History has already shown us that it can backfire at times in weird ways, especially in the light of a simple truth.
General Clark should not be treated with such disrespect.
Perhaps you should do the apologizing for the obvious "set up" this time. Afterall, it was you who missed his point completely because you did not listen, and then you minced his words.

bush has been violating the Constitution for the last seven and a half years. His faith based giving crap apparently only goes to religious groups who spew his bullshit like "abstinence" "no sex education in schools" "no birth control" "no abortion".
The MSM twisted Barack's words the other day when he spoke out about faith based giving. They made it sound like he was backing bush's unconstitutional handling of this crap and it pissed off a lot of supporters like me.
But, I heard Barack's actual words. He said the government should not be giving money to just religious groups but to secular groups as well. He clearly stated that bush's bullshit for the last seven and one half years is unconstitutional.

Now if Bush had not started this illegal invasion and occupation costing us billions of dollars per week, had concentrated that money where it is needed here in the USA, many Americans would not be in the situation they find themselves !
"Chicago - The latest U.S. natural disaster is triggering fresh rounds of concern and debate about how to repair America's aging infrastructure. The worst Midwest flooding since 1993 has generated images of swamped towns, cracked roads, washed-out bridges, overwhelmed dams, failed levees, broken sewage systems, stunted crops and water-logged refugees. The losses are in the billions of dollars and still mounting, as the costs of crop losses alone send shocks through the inflation-wracked world food system and threaten insurers.
The disaster has reminded policymakers of the decrepit state of U.S. infrastructure, stirring concerns similar to those following the deadly Minneapolis bridge collapse in 2007 and the flooding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Train travel is finally becoming a third rail of politics. The first one to fry over it might be John McCain.
For years, McCain, in the comfort of cheap gasoline for autos and airplanes, made Amtrak a personal whipping boy. Despite the fact that governments in Western Europe and Asia zoomed far ahead of the United States by supporting high-speed trains to relieve congestion, promote tourism and now as we are coming to know, save the planet, McCain has spent considerable capital in denying the passenger rail system the capital to modernize. In 2000, when he was chairman of the Senate Science, Commerce and Transportation committee, McCain killed $10 billion in capital funding for Amtrak. He denounced Amtrak as a symbol of government waste, claiming, "There's only two parts of the country that can support a viable rail system -- the Northeast and the far West."
...Suddenly, the traveling public is demanding the development of commuter and high-speed intercity rail. According to the American Public Transportation Association, light rail (streetcars) was up 10 percent in the first quarter of this year, commuter rail was up by 6 percent, and subways were up 4 percent (Boston subway travel was up by 9 percent).
The House and Senate have passed bills calling for new investments in passenger rail, creating the same federal incentives for states to invest in rail service, offering 80 cents for every 20 cents spent by the states. Barack Obama is a cosponsor of the Senate bill. Noting on his website that he is committed to the development of high speed rail, Obama said, "In many parts of the country, Amtrak is the only form of reliable transportation."
In the section of McCain's website called "reforming our transportation sector," there is no mention of rail. There is only his clean-car challenge to automakers, his $300 million prize to design battery cars, and enforcing only existing gas mileage standards. When The Washington Post reported on how President Bush's fiscal 2006 budget did not include a subsidy for Amtrak, would kill both $20 million for the next generation of high-speed rail, and $250 million for railroad rehabilitation, it quoted McCain as saying on television, "I'm glad the president is coming over with a very austere budget."

That means I am smarter than 98% of you. Or in my specific case (based on other testing) - 99.99% of everybody.P.S. you appear to be a dope.

Typical Pug twisting....That's 98% of those taking the same test as you, menson.
Of course, it is possible you're a genius...just like your idol, Hitler. More likely you are closer to Rain Man.
Have a nice day.

interestingly the idea that being a jet bomber pilot and getting shot down and being a pow has little to do with commanding the entire armed forces or for that matter the country is catching on.
i was talking to my dad, a battle of the bulge vet, and he said being in the battle and freezing his ass off that christmas in europe qualified him to drive a milk truck when he got back to the states and that is probably what mccain ought to be doing...

You know, I really miss a good old fashioned bottle of fresh milk on my doorstep. We have not had that luxury here for years! Think of the local jobs we could create bringing bread and milk trucks back and they should all be electric or air motors.

They still have milkmen in the villages in England, its cool to live in a village...and the trashmen, what would we ever do without them. One of the most important jobs of all in our communities and a lot of lifting, not easy.
We should all be proud of our jobs. John McCain looks like a milkman actually... well maybe a cross between a milkman and a dough boy sprinkled with powdered sugar but let me digress...
