Michael Moore's Election Guide 2008
-- Just Released

From the publisher:

After a disastrous war, the failure to catch bin Laden, millions of families who have lost their homes, the Katrina debacle, soaring gas prices feeding record oil company profits, and the largest national debt caused by the biggest spending and borrowing administration in American history, the country has had it with conservatives, right-wingers and Republicans. A thrilling election season is now upon us. Obama vs. McCain. One candidate has promised a presidency different from any other, one that will take us forward to embrace the hope of the 21st century. The other candidate says he has no idea how to use a computer.

Welcome to MIKE'S ELECTION GUIDE -- Michael Moore's effort to make sense of this fall's race for the White House and Congress. In it, Moore answers the nation's most pressing questions: "Why is John McCain so angry?," "Do the Democrats Still Drink from a Sippy Cup and Sleep with the Light On?," Can I get into the Electoral College with only a 2.0 gpa?" and "How many Democrats does it take to lose the most winnable election in American history?"

I am sure everyone expected some international crisis before the election and I don't think they are done yet. Don't be surprised if some disaster is perpetrated right here on our very own shores. Nothing is beneath these people --whatever it takes to win. Obama needs someone who is known and respected on an international level as well as here at home. He might get away with Biden, but Rush Limbaugh already has that arsenal ready.

Why is everyone so afraid of stepping on McCain less than illustrious war record when we had the Swiftboating of John Kerry. In this information age, someone must be able to access his tapes for the Vietnamese. His picture showing him lunching with the Spanish psychologist was posted on this blog so why not in a political ad?

If McCain is elected, we all better be ready to send our kids and grandkids off to whatever war he is planning to start next. He will. Don't doubt it.

Reid: 'I can't stand McCain'
Posted: 01:00 PM ET

From CNN

Reid had some tough words about McCain.
(CNN) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and John McCain have never exactly enjoyed a close relationship, but the Democratic leader was exceedingly blunt Wednesday in his assessment of his colleague from Arizona.

"I can't stand John McCain," Reid flatly told his hometown paper, the Las Vegas Review Journal in comments published Thursday. The Nevada Democrat also said he had recently expressed that sentiment to Democrat-turned Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, an ardent supporter of McCain who has agreed to speak at the Republican convention earThe top Senate Democrat also said McCain is wrong on a host of issues and "does not have the right temperament" to be commander-in-chiefly next month.

"He (Lieberman) said 'I know you feel that way,'" Reid also told the paper.

Why does Harry Reid have to come out and say this - why doesn't Obama say this and say it in an ad.....

I'm a big Obama supporter but man - this guy has got to get his act together and start hitting back!

New York Times
By ERIC LIPTON
Published: August 21, 2008
GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Fires in the 47-story office tower at the edge of the World Trade Center site undermined floor beams and critical structural columns, federal investigators concluded Thursday, as they attempted to curb still-rampant speculation that explosives or fuel fires were responsible for the building’s collapse of Sept. 11, 2001.
The long-delayed report by engineers here at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in suburban Washington is intended to solve one of still lingering central questions about the 2001 attacks: Why did 7 World Trade Center fall, if it was not hit by an airplane.
“Heating of floor beams and girders caused a critical support column to fail,” said Shyam Sunder, the lead investigator. “Video and photographic evidence combined with detailed computer simulations show that neither explosives nor fuel oils played a role in the collapse that brought the building down.”
No one died when 7 World Trade Center fell, nearly seven hours after the twin towers came down. But the collapse of the adjacent tower — once home to branch offices of the Central Intelligence Agency, the Secret Service and to the Giuliani administration’s emergency operations center — is cited in hundreds of books and Internet sites as perhaps the most compelling evidence that an insider secretly planted explosives, intentionally destroying the tower.
It is the first skyscraper in modern times to collapse primarily as a result of a fire.
Mainstream engineers and government officials have rejected the speculation as ridiculous. But national polls have shown that perhaps as many as 1 in 7 Americans believe that the destruction of the World Trade Center towers was an inside job.
The investigators determined that debris from the falling twin towers ignited fires on at least 10 floors at 7 World Trade Center, which was about 400 feet north of where the city’s two tallest buildings once stood. The blazes burned out of control for six hours, as the city fire department, devastated by the collapse of the twin towers, abandoned its efforts to extinguish the fire, and the sprinkler system was incapacitated.
The heat from these fires, the investigators said, caused the beams on the lower floors of the east side of the tower to expand, ultimately causing a girder on the 13th floor to disconnect from a critical interior column that supported the building’s long floor spans. Once the 13th floor gave way, a cascade of floor failures started down to the fifth floor, leading to the overall collapse of the tower.
Skeptics have questioned if explosives were planted at 7 World Trade Center, as well as the twin towers and the Pentagon, as the Bush administration was seeking a justification to invade Iraq and Afghanistan. What started as a small number of such conspiracy theorists has only ballooned into a movement of sorts, largely fed by Internet sites that promote the theories.
“Seven World Trade Center is one of the key points of evidence, one of the smoking guns,” said Richard Gage, a California architect who leader a group called Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth. “There have been much hotter, longer lasting and larger fires in skyscrapers that have not fallen down.”
The investigators said that if the city water main had not been broken during the collapse of the twin towers, the sprinkler system would likely have put out the fires at 7 World Trade Center, and the building would not have fallen.
The engineers also examined whether diesel fuel tanks in the building — to power the Giuliani administration’s emergency operations center and other government offices — might have been a fuel source that caused the collapse. The investigators determined, based in part on computer models and videos of smoke coming from the tower, that the heat generated from any fuel-fed fires would not have been enough to cause the collapse.
Dr. Sunder said the investigation pointed to how expansion that can occur in steel as it heats up in a fire needs to be considered to prevent skyscraper collapses.
“Our take-home message today is the reason for the collapse of World Trade Center 7 is no longer a mystery,” Dr. Sunder said. “It did not collapse from explosives or fuel oil fires.”

Giuliani and Romney to crash Democrats' Denver party

By Andy Sullivan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - When Democrats gather in Denver next week to nominate Barack Obama for president, they'll be joined by such uninvited guests as Republicans Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney.

The two former presidential candidates will be among two dozen or so Republicans in the city hoping to get their party's message out during a week dominated by Democratic festivities.

Their slogan? "Not Ready '08: A Mile High and an Inch Deep," a play on the nickname for the high-altitude city in the western United States...

news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080821/pl_nm/usa_politics_denver_republicans_dc

Or is this a throwback to Bush's "Make the Pie Higher" logic? Why didn’t the middle class get a "piece of the pie" in the past eight years?

McCain's Double Talk/Flip Flop Express taking up right where Bush is leaving when it comes to spouting silly sound bites instead of getting the job done. They can't deliver the goods, so they mock others who have an agenda that will?

Not Ready for '08? Who wasn't ready for 9/11, Mr. Giuliani? You never got around to providing the NYC firefighters and police with the emergency radios they needed...and you promised, did you?

Not Ready for '08? Who wasn’t ready for Bin Lauden, Mr. Bush? You left the memo from the CIA on their desk and went on vacation.

Not Ready for '08? What happened to the tax cuts your party promised the middle class, Mr. Romney? You gave them instead to millionaires like yourself, didn't you?

Not Ready for '08? The GOP wasn't ready for 1992. Have they bothered to deal with any of the problems average Americans have had to live with for the past 15 years?

They took no action on the health care crisis, didn't increase the standard of living for working people, or make us more secure in the world.

Where is the peace and prosperity we had before these incompetent GOP crooks took over? Why has our fiscal stability and civil liberties been compromised?

The Republicans weren’t ready 15 years ago. And a befuddled old fool who doesn't know where Pakistan is...or how many homes he owns...most certainly is "Not ready in '08".

Would you trust leaving your children with someone that irresponsible? Would you trust their future to a failed Republican Congress which is too embarrassed to attend their own GOP convention?

McCain, Guilani, and Romney are not serious about fixing any of the things that are wrong in this country. They're too busy being fratboy funny.

Iraq and the U.S. have reached preliminary agreement to withdraw American forces from Iraqi cities by next June (from the cities only), six years into the increasingly unpopular war, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said Thursday after meeting with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"We think it's a good agreement," she said. "We recognize that the government still has to review this agreement ... and we'll await that process, and then it obviously has to go to the Council of Representatives." She was referring to the Iraqi parliament; the Bush administration does not plan to submit the deal to Congress for approval.

Fucking asshole. Congress must be in the loop. Godamn traitor. The fuhrer is at it again. Heil Bush and Cheney

A key part of the U.S.-Iraqi draft agreement envisions the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq's cities by next June 30, according to Iraqi and American officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the proposed deal's details have not been publicly announced. A related issue is setting additional timelines for troop withdrawals, including a date by which all U.S. forces would be gone.

"We're not sitting here talking about an agreement to try to get out of a bad situation," Rice said, asserting that the draft "builds on the success we have had in the last year. This agreement is based on success."

Followers of anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr criticized Rice's visit and repeated their opposition to the security agreement. Sadr's followers control 30 of the 275 seats in parliament.

Kathy,

Why should Obama show his cards even before the convention and play the game on McCain's terms? Barak has a plan of attack and he's not going to be rushed into making any costly mistakes.

The Repblicans are desperate. The only way they can win with their record of incompetence is prove that Obama is just as stupid as they are.

He isn't. He'll unload on McCain when it's his time to do so in the debates...right before the election when the Undecided and Independents finally get around to making their decision.

And when we need to energize our Base and new voters the most.

Be patient and spend this time pre-conditioning the playing field at your own grass roots level. Our V.P. will start landing some body blows right after the convention and then all the rest of the surragetes will follow with jabs from all sides with such a flurry the GOP won't have the budget to fend them off.

We're going to keep our candidate fresh and condidtioned for the final round. The old man belives his own propoganda. He thinks Obama is green and inexperienced. He isn't.

And neither are we. We're launching a new product against a discredited Republican brand. The American public is ready to try something new and improved.

Don't worry. They are ready to make a change.

Don't rush their decison until they've had a chance to sample and savor the idea of getting their money's worth again instead of the same stale, over-priced goods that haven't lived up to their promise...and don't work.

Slow and steady, steady and slow...and then Wham.

When Ayres was in his protest phase, Obama was only 10 or 12 years old.

Someone should also point out that, if the surge was such a success, why is the Iraqi government not stable and why are we still there trying to force agreements on them -- agreements which will not be viewed by Congress or the public until they are signed.

And when we need to energize our Base and those millions of new voters the most.

Be patient and spend this time pre-conditioning the playing field at your own grass roots level. Work on the basics like voter registration and phone banking. Canvass. Get the yard signs up. Be visable in the community...and vocal.

Our V.P. will start landing body blows right after the convention and then all the rest of the suragettes will follow with so many short, sharp jabs from all sides with such a flurry that the GOP won't have the budget to fend them off.

McCain is peaking way too early. We're going to keep our candidate fresh and conditioned for the final round. The old fool actually believes his own propoganda. He thinks Obama is green and inexperienced. He isn't.

And neither are we. We're launching a new product against a discredited Republican brand. The American public is ready to try something new and improved.

Don't worry. Voters might be wary but they're still considering their options. They're sick of the current brand. No matter how the RNC tries to re-package, re-formulate McCain, voters are ready to make a change.

Don't rush their decison until they've had a chance to sample and savor the idea of getting their money's worth again instead of the same old stale, over-priced goods that haven't lived up to their promise...and don't work.

Slow and steady, steady and slow...and then Wham.

After experiencing so many GOP betrayals including $4 a gallon gas and the WMD fraud, the need for revenge against the Republicans is so deeply rooted within the hearts of many American voters that we owe it to them not to rush it.

Sally-* on August 21, 2008 at 06:46 PM

There are plenty of issues to attack these arrogant republicans on, particularly their chosen leader. Let's just agree that all they want to do is make government services irrelevant, they want to be free to make money off the environment and enrich themselves through corporate exploitation of workers and consumers. Are the many tax loopholes they have engineered with lobbyists help make America better?

How great is our public education, for instance, and what is their answer: private school vouchers, home schooling and charter schools. Heard of any financial support for public education or financial assistance for college or vocational schools? NOT A WORD! They can afford it, why can't we?

Affordable medical coverage. Their answer for the 43M who don't have it is a $5K tax credit, so private providers can continue to jack up their prices, increase their profits, all the while furthre eroding the national debt.

They say we have to attack growing government programs such as medicare, social security, etc., in a way which removes people from eligiblity.

A problem with our infrastructure, ability to fund our defense, etc.? Their answer is to make permanent the tax cuts which enrich the wealthy and transfered the tax burden to the middle and lower classes.

Easy for republicans to cloak themselves in the flag and tie themselves to the cross. They are not patriots, they do not believe in the constitution as constructed by our funding fathers and there is nothing in their agenda, outside of abortion, that remotely promotes God's teachings.

When will America wake up to the fact that conservatives are destroying the American way of life by manipulating people through the media and preaching values they have no intention of adhereing to?

Rob Crilly in Nairobi

He said that he was furious at subsequent reports that he had been abandoned by the Obama family and that he was filled with shame about living in a slum. “It seems there are people who want to destroy me and my family,” he said.

Yes - they are sick almost beyond imagination.

“They say I live on a dollar a month, but this is all lies by people who don’t want my brother to win.” He said that he was supported by his mother, Jael, who now lives in the US, and by a cousin in Huruma.

When you're here, hopefully you won't run in to any of the moon bats.

The Obama family in Kenya watched with dismay as the campaign in the US turned increasingly negative. Reporters have tried to prove that Barack Obama is a secret Muslim and have tracked down friends of his father, portrayed as a drunk and abusive husband.

They were searching for WMDs.

George said he expected no favours and wanted to work for a living, even though he was confident that his brother would be moving into the White House. “He has already done so many firsts, as black president of the Harvard Law Review and getting the nomination, so we believe he will win,” he said.

That means the half-brothers and sisters, and the countless cousins, uncles and aunts that make up the Obama family will have to get used to being in the media spotlight.

Didn't know such ugliness existed in the United States, did you?

Sounds like another modern day GOP "victory" in diplomacy and another great example of GOP calling on Americans to give our country and the world the best we have to give.

Obama Brother Surfaces in Britain

(Newser) – Barack Obama’s Kenyan half-brother Bernard has emerged in England after a British tabloid tracked him down. Bernard Obama told the Sun he was “proud of my brother” and said he was sure Barack would win the White House. “He will be a breath of fresh air for the world,” said Bernard, 37, who was visiting his mother in the UK. Obama has eight half-siblings.

Bernard, who runs a car parts company in Nairobi, shares a father, Barack Sr., with the presidential hopeful. The elder Barack married Bernard’s mother Kezia in 1957 in Kenya; he was educated in Hawaii, where he had Obama with his second wife, Ann Dunham, and later returned to Kenya, where he became a leading government economist. “I was around 17 when I first met Barack,” said Bernard. “It was obvious from the way he spoke that he was going to be a success.”
