These pseudo-religious malcontents the bates brothers are bitching about Obama again.

Today they were bitching about his support for gay marriage.

They were also bitching about Trojan (condoms)who they say is going to tell everyone to get it on at the convention. I am not sure they are going to be on and if they are then it must be to send the message about aids which is out of control in the U.S.

The bates brothers were bitching that the Dems don't care about teen pregnancy. How in the hell did they get this from the fact that Trojan may be at the convention.

These two brothers are TOTAL ASSHOLES. We need to pull their plug. They ask for donations so I'll bet the get a tax exemption which should be pulled immediately and these two should be slapped in jail for fraud.

Dems score a win last night.
Michele Obama was awesome and so was Teddy Kennedy. Neither one of them was in a position to go after McSame.

Here is to hoping H.Clinton will do that tonight.

Well who would have thunk it the way the talking head consultants spin it?

Aha, I was right. Dean did indeed outraise McAuliffe.

"From Jan. 1, 2001, when Terence R. McAuliffe took over the committee, through March 31, 2004, the DNC raised approximately $127 million in funds that could be spent directly on campaign activities. Between Jan. 1, 2005, and March 2008, the DNC raised $190 million, considerably more."

Much more at the link.

Doo Bee-
Man, Obama is just another typical Sox fan? I think I went to more of the Sox games than any WS fan that I knew, at least before they won the series. I used to like any Chicago team. Ozzie and the White Sox fans I know ruined that for me...

Tell me how best to do this, Blue and I am with you!

Maybe we DNC long timers should have started a 'advertising' fund of our own back 4 years ago, and used that money for spots of our own!

I know there are tons of youtube videos on the truth about McCain out there, but the people we need to hit don't watch those.

did you all receive this email from Begala?

You just knew it was going to happen. And in a way I can't blame them.

If I were a Republican I'd be trying to crash our party as well.

Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, John Boehner – a motley crew of Bush-Cheney Republicans who have shown up here in Denver. And I don't think they came just for the Rocky Mountain air.

Can you really blame them? While we're all here to celebrate Barack Obama's plans to write the next great chapter for America in the 21st Century, those guys will be stuck next week at their convention having to celebrate the Bush-Cheney record and John McCain's plan to continue it for another eight years. Which party would you rather be at?

We can't let these Republicans rain on our parade. The world is watching our fundraising totals during this week as a measure of our chances to win. The DCCC has set a goal of raising $1 Million during the Convention. One million dollars. It's never been done before - but we're already halfway there. I need your help to put us over the top.

SandyH, you are quite confused by Butte's comments. He was responding to a post earlier at 09:45 AM on this thread where she saw a veteran's car parked at her pet store parking lot. Just the fact that the guy had a bumper sticker satirizing Bill and Hillary was her license to say some pretty nasty things about him and his service as well as veterans in general.

Apparently only veterans who ate democrats are worthy of her respect, if they are not then they are worthy of her worse opinions of them.

And yes, soldiers returning from Vietnam were indeed subjected to hatred by war protesters who called them baby killers and spit on them. A sad chapter in our history to be sure.

JustFrank on August 26, 2008 at 03:27 PM

Bring on Hillary.

I'm ready for a barnburner of a speech. She's been silent too long. Can't wait to hear her again.

She's going to join Obama to go after McCain. We're going to hear her talking about providing affordable health care and about saving the middle class. This is her specialty.

Johne,

I don't know who these bates brothers are but if they are resorting to scapegoating gays, it's for certain that they can't defend the Republicans' last eight years of failure.

Everyone, including many Republicans, are fed up with these continuous attacks on gays...while all we get is one GOP failure or screw up after another when it comes to our weakening economy and military strength.

The working poor are mainly women who don't have the time to listen to hate radio. Middle class women are frightened that they may be in the same boat soon. The men in their lives all feel betrayed by the GOP.

And this somehow is the fault of gays? This Big Lie just isn't resonating with voters this time around...even with young evangelicals.

OMG... what a bunch of wack-jobs. Anyone who reads this and falls in line with it has a serious problem with reality.

I laughed and laughed.

Feminism originally was an expression used by suffragettes - who were predominantly pro-life[1][2][3].
(Suffrage was the womens right to vote, had nothing to do with abortion.)

Homeschooling enables students to do well in contests, often winning over students from the school system.
(Probably because the only compete against themselves or siblings)

The theory of evolution posits a process of self-transformation from simple life forms to more complex life forms, which has never been observed
(It hasn't been observed in these wack-jobs family trees anyways.)

abortion causes breast cancer
(Not even going there)

Deceit is the deliberate distortion or denial of the truth with an intent to trick or fool another.[1]
(These wack-jobs have this down to a science)

(Sorry Republicans, I know it is your brain reference, but for the rest of us its just funny)

The truth is that both of you made assumptions about the veteran. He may not have peeled potatoes and he may not have been a hero. Just being in the military and serving in a war doesn't make you a hero.

Unfortunately though, we have seen too many of these veterans eat their own and vote against their best interests. I could guess that this same guy voted against a former veteran just 4 years ago---and probably had some derogatory comments to say about him...but that would be pure speculation. I have however watched a relative do the same about Kerry---spouting the same WRONG smear points about a fellow veteran, or should I say "hero"?

Which brings up a question: Why is it ok to smear Kerry and not McCain?

It had to do with the personality and Ego of this particular man, with FIREMAN license plate as well as all his war trophies! The fact he was against Bill and Hillary was more proof, that he was one of those veterans who were brainwashed (like many who now admit their commanding officers told them who to vote for) !

My brother was there Twice. He was Not spit upon nor harassed by anyone, and there are many google stories saying that was all made up. I will not argue that point, because I do not care, nor was that my point!

So move on, fella. You are getting on my nerves with your Distortions!!!

22
PamB on August 26, 2008 at 03:52 PM

Well, Bush's NCLB plan did not work, but are you surprised???

"COLUMBIA, Mo. - For a second straight year, SAT scores for the most recent high school graduating class remained at the lowest level in nearly a decade, a trend attributed to a record number of students now taking the test.

The 1.52 million students who took the test is a slight increase from last year but a jump of nearly 30 percent over the past decade. Minority students accounted for 40 percent of test-takers, and 36 percent were the first in their families to attend college. Nearly one in seven had a low enough family income to take the test for free.

"More than ever, the SAT reflects the face of education in this country," said Gaston Caperton, president of the College Board, which owns the test and released the results Tuesday.

The class of 2008 scored an average of 515 out of a possible 800 points on the math section of the college entrance exam, a performance identical to graduating seniors in the previous year.

That's a lie. You said Kerry did it. He didn't. You are now saying I did it because I was a Vietnam war protester. That's a lie, too.

It was your own Republican propogandists who made up that baby killing sound bite and repeated it over and over again.

Now you are trying to doing it again...because you don't want to talk about there not being any WMD (and that Cheney and Bush knew it when they said there was) and that the "occupied and beaten" Iraqis are now thowing Bush the Conqueror out on his ass?

It just verifies what we all know about most of the trolls who come here...you work for the Republican spin machine. And you are obviously over-paid.

I'm confused. No, you are a liar. Pam never disrespected a veteran because he served. She called a Republican a jerk for putting trash talk on his bumper...and acting confused and low class like McCain.

You can't defend your Party's record. It's a disgrace and you know it. Don't try to make me or Pam your scapegoat. We don't take any guff off any pip squeek Republican twits.

Just frankly, wrong! Every 4 years that little chestnut gets dragged out. There were NO reports of that happening at the time of the Vietnam war, and the first mention of it showing up was in 1980 by the Reagan campaign. It has become an enduring urban legend that is used whenever factless Pugs have nothing else to use. It NEVER happened despite people claiming that they saw it with their own eyes.

Oh really? Well in that case there are over a 10,000 people who claim that they saw Grace Slick moon the audience at the Auditorium Theater, although it only holds 4,400. (BTW, THAT never happened, either.)

Grampy Grumpy has s'more 'splainin' to do.

It turns out that this isn't the first time the issue of John McCain's lavish multiple residences has emerged in the heat of a campaign.

In 1986, when then-Rep. McCain was running for the Senate seat vacated by Barry Goldwater, he quietly began remodeling a $500,000 house in central Phoenix owned by his wealthy father-in-law James Hensley. The $225,000 project -- which included the construction of a 4,000-square-foot addition, swimming pool, jacuzzi, cabana and barbecue -- held political peril for McCain, who was already fighting charges that he was as an opportunistic carpertbagger.

Who Is Eldon Smith?

I still think one way to stop mccain is to make him blow his cool in front of the TV cameras at a debate.

He reminds me of Hitler. Hitler used to get livid and rant and rave then throw himself on the floor chewing the carpet. I'll bet we could push mcgeezer over the edge so he would pull a similar stunt in front of the cameras.

No One Should Have to Stand in Line for 10 Hours to Vote

OP-ED
By ADAM COHEN
Published: August 25, 2008

Everyone complains that young people don’t vote, but consider the experience of students at Kenyon College in Ohio in the 2004 election. Officials in Knox County, Ohio, provided just two voting machines for the school’s 1,300 voters. Some students waited in line for 10 hours, and the last bleary-eyed voter did not cast a ballot until nearly 4 a.m.

That same day in Columbus, voters in black neighborhoods waited as long as four hours, often in the rain. Many voters there and in other urban areas — including Toledo and Youngstown — left their overcrowded polling places in disgust, or because they could not wait any longer, without casting a ballot. In many of Ohio’s white-majority suburbs, the lines were far shorter.

Troubles in Ohio drew the greatest attention in 2004, but that state was hardly alone. There were complaints of long lines in other states, including Colorado, Michigan and Florida, where elderly voters endured waits in blistering heat...

www.nytimes.com/2008/08/26/opinion/26tue4.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin

I assume Butters is working on this. Let's hope there are other hard-working election officals doing the same in all the states.

If there isn't, we need to target those states for intensive efforts to correct the problem which usually resides in the ruling party who permits these outrages so they can get elected.

This is supposed to be a Republic where everyone is obligated to vote. Suppressing the vote is traitorous.

Sandy - I just completed a newsletter which will go out to all of our members and also handed out to people telling them about voting in Indiana. The Central Committee here urges people to absentee vote! We can't drill this harder. And also, we're educating people here that in the County Coucil At-Large race, we have only 2 Dems running. We're telling voters NOT to vote for 3 even if the instructions tell you you can vote for 3. If they all voted for the 2 Dems and the 3 one a Republican - then the republicans always get in and win. But we are pushing for absentee ballots - it's the only way to go!

I have to respond to a couple of these:

"John McCain was a cheerleader for the Iraq invasion."

We need to be careful on this one...so was Biden. Any attack on McCain also attacks Biden as well.

"John McCain supports invading Iran."

McCain does not support invading Iran. He, along with most of the free world, has said that Iran should not be permitted to make nuclear weapons. He then said that all options were on the table, including military strikes against Iran, if Iran refuses to dismantle their nuclear program.

"John McCain has no experience leading a nation involved in two simultaneous wars."

Guess what, neither does Obama or Biden. In fact, nobody has any experience on that front.

"John McCain has no real war strategy experience."

See above. You may disagree with his policies but to claim that he doesn't have any experience is flat out wrong. Compared to Obama, he has 1000 times more experience, something that Hillary correctly pointed out in the primary.

"John McCain has never had to work for money."

So what. This argument doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Ted Kennedy has never had to work for his money and we dont chastise him for it.

"John McCain has never influenced any change except for a change in spouses."

This statement is sooo stupid that it doesn't even deserve a response.

I agree we need to attack McCain and his policies but we need to be fair and honest. Hypocrisy has no place in the Democratic party

Dang!!! I didn't know I was going to start a brouhaha when I replied to the posts about the veterans!
I thought that got straightened out on the last thread, apparently it didn't.
The 60s and 70s were bad old times for GIs. I wasn't blaming anyone on this blog personally for any harrasment incidents that happened back then, it's water under the bridge, though I was mentioning that there were after effects. I do know incidentshappened both from personal observation and what happened to some friends.
However I also said that that persons of that personality type aren't necessarily military, but are usually Republican.
JustFrank obviously doesn't know much about the Army in the 60s and 70s for sure. Calling me a HE when I clearly stated I was a WAC(Women's Army Corps)! As far as I can see, he is trying to stir shit, and needs to drop it. 'Nuff said!

I am confused about this site. I first signed on Saturday. Was a accused of being a Hillary whiner. I have followed and read horrible things being said about people. Very little substance (with the exception of a few). If unity and reaching across the aisle is the theme of our party; and to fight for the underdogs, those that are different - why is this site so negative towards people? Seriously, can someone - possibly direct me to a site that talks about issues and solutions in a manner that is educating. Debating is learning - slamming is worthless time spent.

45
GALib on August 26, 2008 at 04:59 PM

this reminds me of a car I parked behind in the Pet Store parking lot last week, gregg.

The guy had one of those old cadillacs, long, gas guzzler.

His vanity license plate was "Firemn"

In his back window, were various baseball caps, with "Vietnam Vet", and other military designations on them.

What was ludicrous, was on his bumper, he had a bumper sticker showing Bill and Hillary on it, with the words "dual airbags" !

One of those strutting veterans, who undoubtedly wore their uniform every time they were out on leave. One who sits at the VFW and looks for praise as he brags and exagerates on his heroics (even though he peeled potatoes back here in the states somewhere). One who can never have enough people thank him for his service (even though he got drafted and tried very hard to get out of it). But he is Republican through and through.

I just saw a clip of J. McCain on a talk show where he responded to any question - regardless of subject - by playing the POW card!
If Rudy's sentence making ability is limited to a noun, a verb and 9/11, LameBrain's is limited to a noun, a verb and POW!
He's overplaying that card but since it's all he's got, I guess he is forced to play it everytime. It's a shame that he trivializes war (singing bomb, bomb, bomb Iran) and by overplaying the POW card he devalues the suffering of other POWs.
He has no shame!

Some of us are underemployed independent contractors who don't get any of those plush no-bid jobs from our "dear friends" in the Republican Party.

Has Cheney sent over any business lately to keep your illegal laborers occupied? I wouldn't want them to lose the health insurance which I'm sure you provide...at great sacrifice on your part.

Maybe Cindy will wear a skunkskin hat at McBush's innauguration and start a whole new fashion trend. It could make your operation take off.

And then maybe she's sick of being around the stinking old fart and will stick to her NASCAR helmet and just buzz the event.

Let me help you out with these.

"John McCain was a cheerleader for the Iraq invasion."

While Sen. Biden (D-DE) did vote for the initial invasion, once he realized that he, along with 86 of his collegaues were duped, he started calling for phased withdrawal. Sen. McCain wants to maintain the Bush doctrine of an open ended committment. The majority of Americans disagree which is why we won the 2006 election cycle.

"John McCain supports invading Iran."

Didn't the "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" song indicate anything to you? However, the first atomic weapon test Iran performs they need to be informed if they do such we'll turn their entire nation into a sea of glass.

"John McCain has no experience leading a nation involved in two simultaneous wars."

The last POTUS to have armies on multiple fronts was FDR (i.e. Europe and the Pacific). I think he did quite well and he was a Democrat. The only thing Sen. McCain knows how to do is to crash expensive navy warplanes.

"John McCain has never had to work for money."

I think this makes for an excellent arguement. Try making your remarks to someone scrambling to make ends meet while Sen. McCain enjoys the fruits of someone else's labor.

"John McCain has never influenced any change except for a change in spouses."

It will resonate with the sheeple especially the Evangelicals. Get them to stay home and we win by 15%.

So just out of curiosity, how would you criticize McCain's policies or are you just a paid operative for the RNC?

LENO: “For a million dollars, how many houses do you have?”

SEN. McCAIN: “Could I just mention to you, Jay, that, at a moment of seriousness. I spent five-and-a-half years in a prison cell,” McCain said. “I didn’t have a house. I didn’t have a kitchen table. I didn’t have a table. I didn’t have a chair. And I didn’t spend those five-and-a-half years because, not because I wanted to get a house when I got out.”

Anybody trying to pay college tuition costs these days knows how poor they are after having to pay off those higher student loan rates the incumbent Republicans passed before 2006.

I heard Obama's step brother is now enrolled in community college. All the Obamas apparently know the value of a higher education and are willing to work hard to get it.

You wouldn't believe some of the apartments I shared while going to college. Obama's step brother is better off living in a clean hut rather than cleaning up after a bunch of lazy rich kids who think a maid comes with the place.

Isn't it a big waste of money running ads that have Hillary Clinton "endorsing" John McCain when she's just going to slam him from now on?

You've got to wonder about the judgment of Republicans who throw money around like that. They've already run up the national debt out of sight. It's like McCain thinks we can keep on printing money and the world will accept it in payment?

I don't think Cindy's beer distributorship is worth that much as collateral especially after McCain invades Iran and starts WW III with Russia.

Blue,

Rachel Maddow just remarked that if McCain continues to cheapen his POW experience by using it to defend such obviously stupid remarks, it won't be long before it doesn't have any value with voters.

The GOP guy on the MSNBC panel countered by talking about how hard McCain's father-in-law worked to build up the beer business....a Horitio Alger story?

Ha. Just how did he get that plum distributorship? Do the Republicans really want to do down that street?

Rachel asked how McCain contributed to that "hard work" and the pundit fell completely silent.

Speaking of Average Joes...

Tensions Boil Over at MSNBC as Shuster, Scarborough Feud

Tensions are running high at MSNBC, at least surrounding veteran host Joe Scarborough who seems to be increasingly discontented at his network's decision to market itself as the cable net of choice for Bush haters. That hasn't sat well with the likes of the far left Keith Olbermann who has played a large role in getting MSNBC to pursue this strategy.

The Democratic convention seems to have only exacerbated those tensions. Last night saw Olbermann caught on an open mic blurting out profane disgust at Scarborough, prompting the latter to verbally call him out while fellow MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews sat back mortified at the intra-family dispute.

Things don't appear to have been smoothed over either as Scarborough was involved in another altercation this morning with liberal correspondent David Shuster on today's "Morning Joe." Scarborough ultimately accused Shuster and his MSNBC colleagues of being Democrats, their independent political registrations notwithstanding...

media.newsbusters.org/stories/scarborough-mocks-shuster-msnbc-for-no-bias-claims.html

Looks like Average Joe wants to get out of his contract...or perhaps is thinking about getting back into politics?

Syria signed a defense pack with Russia just last week and the Iranians are negotiating with both China and Russia to do a similar deal.

Of all the stupid things Bush ever did, starting up the Cold War again had to be right up there at the top. Putin repeatedly tried to negotiate this defense shield thing to make it a co-project.

You can tell alot about a candidate by what they DON'T tell you. If you go to John McClame's web site, you will notice that in his bio, it does not mention when he was born. Odd. Usually, that's first. Something like, "John McClame was born on August 29, 1936 to blah blah blah. Here is what Obama's says:

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4th, 1961.

Bam. Right out there. Nothing to hide.

Right. I know she's real scared of how this would hurt her chances with Democrats and Independents? Even he knows how good Hillary can be when she's on a roll. Pat's shaking...visibly shaking at the prospect of her landing a some great punches tonight.

The media whores have played up this "feud" so much that some of the sheep might actually tune off Big Brother and the SmackDown to see what Hillary going to unload on McSame.

Do you want to bet our ratings are going to be at least twice what the Republicans get next week?

The interest just continues to build as the week goes along. Bill and Biden are tomorrow night. Obama is going to run the ball all the way back up the field on Thursday night...with his brother-in-law coaching from the side lines.

Let McCain announce his choice on Thursday to a packed house of GOP stooges. Nobody cares. Even their own corporate media won't be there.

McCain lost five U.S. Navy aircraft.

Navy pilot John Sidney McCain III should have never been allowed to graduate from the U.S. Navy flight school. He was a below average student and a lousy pilot. Had his father and grandfather not been famous four star U.S. Navy admirals, McCain III would have never been allowed in the cockpit of a military aircraft.

His father John S. "Junior" McCain was commander of U.S. forces in Europe later becoming commander of American forces in Vietnam while McCain III was being held prisoner of war. McCain III's grandfather John S. McCain, Sr. commanded naval aviation at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945.

During his relative short stunt on flight status, McCain III lost five U.S. Navy aircraft, four in accidents and one in combat.

Food for Thought:
Our National Debt is $94 Trillion
40% (FORTY PERCENT!!!) of every dollar collected from personal income tax goes to pay the INTEREST on the debt.
of that 54% of the National debt iis owed to China
So, out of each $100 paid in personal income taxes, approx. $21 goes to support the Chinese Government.
They spent $40 Billion on the Olympics, but - you tell me, WHO Really footed that bill?

But last week at the bungalow where she now lives at Virginia Beach, a faded seaside resort 200 miles south of Washington, she told The Mail on Sunday how McCain divorced her in 1980 and married Cindy, 18 years his junior and the heir to an Arizona brewing fortune, just one month later.

By golly, The Elf has taken Lord of the Rings to heart. Why didn't I see this on MSNBC?

Kucinich electrifies convention arena

Kevin Flynn

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, erstwhile presidential candidate and strident opponent of the Bush administration, gave the most spirited speech of the session Tuesday condemning the war, the economy and the Republicans

Short in stature, the Ohio congressman leaped up onto his tip toes time and again, thrusting his arms out and up, getting the crowd to roar so loudly he had to yell into the microphone to be heard.

It will become known as the “Wake Up, America” speech.

“Fellow Democrats, are you ready for November?” he asked.

“It’s election day 2006 and we Democrats are giving America a wake up call. Wake up, America!”

In 2001, the oil companies and the war contractors seized the country and added four trillion dollars to the national debt.

“Millions of Americans have lost their jobs; trillions of dollars for an unwarranted war paid for with borrowed money; tens of millions of dollars in cash and weapons disappeared into thin air at the cost of the lives of our troops and innocent Iraqis.”

Meanwhile, with the U.S. helping to rebuild infrastructure in Iraq and Afghanistan, “there is no money to rebuild bridges in America.”

Then he launched into a “Wake Up” litany:

“The insurance companies took over health care. Wake up, America!

“The pharmaceutical companies took over drug prices. Wake up, America”

“The speculators took over Wall Street. Wake up, America!”

With each refrain, the delegates grew more frenzied.

“We went into Iraq for oil, and now they want to drill more… into your wallet. Wake up America.

“This administration can tap our phones but they can’t tap our creative spirit. They can open our mail but they can’t open economy."...

Here are excerpts from the Military Code of Conduct. I believe mcgeezer violated this code. why is he always referring to his imprisonment like he is some damn hero?

a. I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members of my command while they still have the means to resist.

b. As an individual, a member of the armed forces may never voluntarily surrender. When isolated and no longer able to inflict casualties on the enemy, the American soldier has an obligation to evade capture and rejoin friendly forces.

c. Only when evasion by an individual is impossible and further fighting would lead only to death with no significant loss to the enemy should
one consider surrender. With all reasonable means of resistance exhausted and with certain death the only alternative, capture does not imply dishonor.

a. If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

e. Such enemies have attempted to lure American POWs into accepting special favors or privileges in exchange for statements, acts or information. Unless it is essential to the life or welfare of that person or another prisoner of war or to the success of efforts to resist or escape, a POW must neither seek nor accept special favors or privileges.

Why did it take him so long to start to decide to criminalize all abortions?

Why did it take him so long to realize that Jerry Falwell is not the "an agent of intolerance" like he once thought?

The list of "Whys?" is pretty long and I'll stop after this one but

But why did it take so long for McCain to acquire his "good judgement"?

Senator Obama knows...
Senator McCain doesn't understand...

We can't afford 4 more years of "more of the same".

I can't claim credit for this piece; I found it on an ABC website in the comments section following a column about McCain. But I do agree with just about everything the author ("Hope") wrote.

McCAIN IS A MAN OF HIS WORD?
HA!

National Security Policy

1. McCain thought Bush's warrantless-wiretap program circumvented the law; now he believes the opposite.

2. McCain insisted that everyone, even "terrible killers," "the worst kind of scum of humanity," and detainees at Guantanamo Bay, "deserve to have some adjudication of their cases," even if that means "releasing some of them." McCain now believes the opposite.

3. He opposed indefinite detention of terrorist suspects. When the Supreme Court reached the same conclusion, he called it "one of the worst decisions in the history of this country."

4. In February 2008, McCain reversed course on prohibiting waterboarding.

5. McCain was for closing the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay before he was against it.

6. When Barack Obama talked about going after terrorists in Pakistani mountains with predators, McCain criticized him for it. He's since come to the opposite conclusion.

Foreign Policy

7. McCain was for kicking Russia out of the G8 before he was against it. Now, he's for it again.

8. McCain supported moving "towards normalization of relations" with Cuba. Now he believes the opposite.

9. McCain believed the U.S. should engage in diplomacy with Hamas. Now he believes the opposite.

10. McCain believed the U.S. should engage in diplomacy with Syria. Now he believes the opposite.

11. McCain is both for and against a "rogue state rollback" as a focus of his foreign policy vision.

12. McCain used to champion the Law of the Sea convention, even volunteering to testify on the treaty's behalf before a Senate committee. Now he opposes it.

13. McCain was against divestment from South Africa before he was for it.

Military Policy

14. McCain recently claimed that he was the "greatest critic" of Rumsfeld's failed Iraq policy. In December 2003, McCain praised the same strategy as "a mission accomplished." In March 2004, he said, "I'm confident we're on the right course." In December 2005, he said, "Overall, I think a year from now, we will have made a fair amount of progress if we stay the course."

15. McCain has changed his mind about a long-term U.S. military presence in Iraq on multiple occasions, concluding, on multiple occasions, that a Korea-like presence is both a good and a bad idea.

16. McCain was against additional U.S. forces in Afghanistan before he was for it.

17. McCain said before the war in Iraq, "We will win this conflict. We will win it easily." Four years later, McCain said he knew all along that the war in Iraq war was "probably going to be long and hard and tough."

18. McCain has repeatedly said it's a dangerous mistake to tell the "enemy" when U.S. troops would be out of Iraq. In May, McCain announced that most American troops would be home from Iraq by 2013.

19. McCain was against expanding the GI Bill before he was for it.

20. McCain staunchly opposed Obama's Iraq withdrawal timetable, and even blasted Mitt Romney for having referenced the word during the GOP primaries. In July, after Iraqi officials endorsed Obama's policy, McCain said a 16-month calendar sounds like "a pretty good timetable."

Domestic Policy

21. McCain defended "privatizing" Social Security. Now he says he's against privatization (though he actually still supports it.)

22. On Social Security, McCain said he would not, under any circumstances, raise taxes. Soon after, asked about a possible increase in the payroll tax, McCain said there's "nothing that's off the table."

23. McCain wanted to change the Republican Party platform to protect abortion rights in cases of rape and incest. Now he doesn't.

24. McCain supported storing spent nuclear fuel at Yucca Mountain in Nevada. Now he believes the opposite.

25. He argued the NRA should not have a role in the Republican Party's policy making. Now he believes the opposite.

26. In 1998, he championed raising cigarette taxes to fund programs to cut underage smoking, insisting that it would prevent illnesses and provide resources for public health programs. Now, McCain opposes a $0.61-per-pack tax increase, won't commit to supporting a regulation bill he's co-sponsoring, and has hired Philip Morris' former lobbyist as his senior campaign adviser.

27. McCain is both for and against earmarks for Arizona.

28. McCain's first mortgage plan was premised on the notion that homeowners facing foreclosure shouldn't be "rewarded" for acting "irresponsibly." His second mortgage plan took largely the opposite position.

29. McCain went from saying gay marriage should be allowed, to saying gay marriage shouldn't be allowed.

30. McCain opposed a holiday to honor Martin Luther King, Jr., before he supported it.

31. McCain was anti-ethanol. Now he's pro-ethanol.

32. McCain was both for and against state promotion of the Confederate flag.

33. In 2005, McCain endorsed intelligent design creationism, a year later he said the opposite, and a few months after that, he was both for and against creationism at the same time.

34. And on gay adoption, McCain initially said he'd rather let orphans go without families, then his campaign reversed course, and soon after, McCain reversed back.

35. In the Senate, McCain opposed a variety of measures on equal pay for women, and endorsed the Supreme Court's Ledbetter decision. In July, however, McCain said, "I'm committed to making sure that there's equal pay for equal work. That ... is my record and you can count on it."

36. McCain was against fully funding the No Child Left Behind Act before he was for it.

37. McCain was for affirmative action before he was against it.

Economic Policy

38. McCain was against Bush's tax cuts for the very wealthy before he was for them.

39. John McCain initially argued that economics is not an area of expertise for him, saying, "I'm going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues; I still need to be educated," and "The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should." He now falsely denies ever having made these remarks and insists that he has a "very strong" understanding of economics.

40. McCain vowed, if elected, to balance the federal budget by the end of his first term. Soon after, he decided he would no longer even try to reach that goal. And soon after that, McCain abandoned his second position and went back to his first.

41. McCain said in 2005 that he opposed the tax cuts because they were "too tilted to the wealthy." By 2007, he denied ever having said this, and falsely argued that he opposed the cuts because of increased government spending.

42. McCain thought the estate tax was perfectly fair. Now he believes the opposite.

43. McCain pledged in February 2008 that he would not, under any circumstances, raise taxes. Specifically, McCain was asked if he is a "'read my lips' candidate, no new taxes, no matter what?" referring to George H.W. Bush's 1988 pledge. "No new taxes," McCain responded. Two weeks later, McCain said, "I'm not making a 'read my lips' statement, in that I will not raise taxes."

44. McCain has changed his entire economic worldview on multiple occasions.

45. McCain believes Americans are both better and worse off economically than they were before Bush took office.

Energy Policy

46. McCain supported the moratorium on coastal drilling ; now he's against it.

47. McCain recently announced his strong opposition to a windfall-tax on oil company profits. Three weeks earlier, he was perfectly comfortable with the idea.

48. McCain endorsed a cap-and-trade policy with a mandatory emissions cap. In mid-June, McCain announced he wants the caps to voluntary.

49. McCain explained his belief that a temporary suspension of the federal gas tax would provide an immediate economic stimulus. Shortly thereafter, he argued the exact opposite.

50. McCain supported the Lieberman/Warner legislation to combat global warming. Now he doesn't.

51. McCain was for national auto emissions standards before he was against them.

Immigration Policy

52. McCain was a co-sponsor of the DREAM Act, which would grant legal status to illegal immigrants' kids who graduate from high school. In 2007, he announced his opposition to the bill. In 2008, McCain switched back.

53. On immigration policy in general, McCain announced in February 2008 that he would vote against his own bill.

54. In April, McCain promised voters that he would secure the borders "before proceeding to other reform measures." Two months later, he abandoned his public pledge, pretended that he'd never made the promise in the first place, and vowed that a comprehensive immigration reform policy has always been, and would always be, his "top priority."

Judicial Policy and the Rule of Law

55. McCain said he would "not impose a litmus test on any nominee." He used to promise the opposite.

56. McCain believes the telecoms should be forced to explain their role in the administration's warrantless surveillance program as a condition for retroactive immunity. He used to believe the opposite.

57. McCain went from saying he would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade to saying the exact opposite.

58 In June, McCain rejected the idea of a trial for Osama bin Laden, and thought Obama's reference to Nuremberg was a misread of history. A month later, McCain argued the exact opposite position.

Campaign, Ethics, and Lobbying Reform

59. McCain supported his own lobbying-reform legislation from 1997. Now he doesn't.

60. In 2006, McCain sponsored legislation to require grassroots lobbying coalitions to reveal their financial donors. In 2007, after receiving "feedback" on the proposal, McCain told far-right activist groups that he opposes his own measure.

61. McCain supported a campaign-finance bill, which bore his name, on strengthening the public-financing system. In June 2007, he abandoned his own legislation.

Politics and Associations

62. McCain wanted political support from radical televangelist John Hagee. Now he doesn't. (He also believes his endorsement from Hagee was both a good and bad idea.)

63. McCain wanted political support from radical televangelist Rod Parsley. Now he doesn't.

64. McCain says he considered and did not consider joining John Kerry's Democratic ticket in 2004.

65. McCain is both for and against attacking Barack Obama over his former pastor at his former church.

66. McCain criticized TV preacher Jerry Falwell as "an agent of intolerance" in 2002, but then decided to cozy up to the man who said Americans "deserved" the 9/11 attacks.

67. In 2000, McCain accused Texas businessmen Sam and Charles Wyly of being corrupt, spending "dirty money" to help finance Bush's presidential campaign. McCain not only filed a complaint against the Wylys for allegedly violating campaign finance law, he also lashed out at them publicly. In April, McCain reached out to the Wylys for support.

68. McCain was against presidential candidates campaigning at Bob Jones University before he was for it.

69. McCain decided in 2000 that he didn't want anything to do with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, believing he "would taint the image of the 'Straight Talk Express.'" Kissinger is now the Honorary Co-Chair for his presidential campaign in New York.

70. McCain believed powerful right-wing activist/lobbyist Grover Norquist was "corrupt, a shill for dictators, and (with just a dose of sarcasm) Jack Abramoff's gay lover." McCain now considers Norquist a key political ally.

71. McCain was for presidential candidates giving speeches in foreign countries before he was against it.

This is an interesting article by the U.S. Veteran Dispatch.

What McCain's promoters have carefully edited out of their McCain-for-president equation is his post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Department of Defense psychiatrists have evaluated McCain for PTSD several times, the results of which remain locked by privacy laws.

An outcome of PTSD is a subtle web of personal problems including difficulty in controlling intense emotions such as anger and an inability to function well under stress.

Psychologist Patricia B. Sutker of the New Orleans Veterans Administration Medical Center and her colleagues reported in a 1991 issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry that as many as nine of 10 surviving U.S. servicemen taken captive during the Korean War may suffer from PTSD and other mental disorders more than 35 years after their release.

Over the years, countless numbers of columnist/pundits have nearly drowned in their own drool suggesting McCain's POW experience greatly qualifies him to be president.

Members of the two major POW/MIA family organizations know the "real" John McCain and they despise him. They have experienced firsthand his cruel, angry temperament.

In 1996, McCain encountered a group of POW/MIA family members outside a Senate hearing room. The family members were some of the same who worked tirelessly during the Vietnam War to make sure Hanoi released all U.S. POWs - including POW McCain.

McCain immediately began quarreling with the POW/MIA family members, who were eager to question him on the issue of what happened to their loved ones.

Instead showing courtesy and appropriate compassion by answering their questions, the Arizona senator pushed through the group, shoving them out of his way, nearly toppling the wheelchair of POW/MIA mother Jane Duke Gaylor. Her son, Charles Duke, a civilian worker in Vietnam, is among 2,300 American POWs and MIAs still unaccounted for by the communists.

The POW/MIA families, shocked at McCain's overly aggressive behavior toward Mrs. Gaylor, registered complaints with senate officials.

In an earlier incident involving families of servicemen still MIA, McCain got so angry that he went ballistic.

McCain was advised (Nov. 11, 1992) that Dolores Apodaca Alfond, chairwoman of the National Alliance of POW/MIA Families (her pilot brother Capt. Victor J. Apodaca is missing in action in North Vietnam), was offering testimony critical of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs. He rushed into the hearing room to confront her.

Award winning journalist Sydney Schanberg described the scene. "His face [McCain] angry and his voice very loud, he accused her of making 'allegations ... that are patently and totally false and deceptive.'

"Making a fist, he shook his index finger at her and said she had insulted an emissary to Vietnam sent by President Bush. He said she had insulted other MIA families with her remarks. And then he said, through clenched teeth: 'And I am sick and tired of you insulting mine and other people's [patriotism] who happen to have different views than yours.'

"By this time, tears were running down Alfond's cheeks. She reached into her handbag for a handkerchief. She tried to speak: 'The family members have been waiting for years -- years! And now you're shutting down.' He kept interrupting her. She tried to say, through tears, that she had issued no insults. He kept talking over her words. He said she was accusing him and others of 'some conspiracy without proof, and some cover-up.' She said she was merely seeking 'some answers. That is what I am asking.' He ripped into her for using the word 'fiasco.' She replied: 'The fiasco was the people that stepped out and said we have written the end, the final chapter to Vietnam.' 'No one said that,' he shouted. 'No one said what you are saying they said, Ms. Alfond.' And then, his face flaming pink, he stalked out of the room, to shouts of disfavor from members of the audience."

POW families were even more angered when they saw McCain actually bonding with his former torturers during and after the 1992 Senate Select Committee hearings on POW/MIA Affairs. Psychologist have identified behavior in which a prisoner emotionally bonds with an abuser as the Stockholm Syndrome.

Much much more.........................

John McCain's suicide attempt and his resulting PTSD

IF THIS IS TRUE, MCCAIN IS NOT FIT TO BE PRESIDENT!

Why is he so damn hostile towards the families of the POW's. The only reason I can surmise is that he is trying to hide something.

More on mcgeezer.

Early in 2007, columnist Sidney Blumenthal, who once served as a senior adviser to President Bill Clinton, questioned if McCain's "volatile temper" might derail his bid to be President.

Blumenthal wrote that the senator's temper sometimes surfaces in the form of obscenities: "McCain's political colleagues, however, know another side of the action hero -- a volatile man with a hair-trigger temper, who shouted at Sen. Ted Kennedy on the Senate floor to 'shut up,' called his fellow Republican senators 'shithead,' 'f******* jerk,' 'a**hole,' and joked in 1998 at a Republican fundraiser about the teenage daughter of President Clinton, 'Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father.'"

Regardless of all the obvious signs pointing to McCain's PTSD, the one outstanding fact is that McCain, by his own admission, broke under the stress of captivity and tried to kill himself.

"Nhan Dan today published answers to questions by one of its correspondents made by a U.S. air pirate detained in North Vietnam. "He is Lt. John Sidney McCain . . ." Hanoi VNA International Service in French - November 9, 1967
"To a question of the correspondent, McCain answered: 'My assignment to the Oriskany, I told myself, was due to serious losses in pilots which were sustained by this aircraft carrier due to its raids over North Vietnam territory and which necessitated replacements. From 10 to 12 pilots were transferred like me from the Forrestal to the Oriskany . . . upon arrival near the target, our formation, with six bombers, would mount the attack according to the following order: I would be number three, and the chief of the formation, number one. Each pilot would have to approach the target from a different direction, the choice of which would be left to him.'" A November 9, 1967 declassified Department of Defense document

"A meeting which will leave its mark on my life: My meeting with John Sidney McCain was certainly one of those meetings which will affect me most profoundly for the rest of my life. I had asked the North Vietnamese authorities to allow me to personally interrogate an American prisoner. They authorized me to do so. When night fell, they took me--without any precautions or mystery--to a hospital near the Gia Lam Airport reserved for the military. (Passage omitted) The officer who receives me begins: I ask you not to ask any questions of political nature. If this man replies in a way unfavorable to us, they will not hesitate to speak of "brainwashing" and conclude that we threatened him. (Passage omitted) "This John Sidney McCain is not an ordinary prisoner. His father is none other than Admiral Edmond John McCain, commander in chief of U.S. Naval forces in Europe." Written by "prominent" French television reporter Francois Chalais - January 1968

"Reds Say PW Songbird Is Pilot Son of Admiral . . . Hanoi has aired a broadcast in which the pilot son of United States Commander in the Pacific, Adm. John McCain, purportedly admits to having bombed civilian targets in North Vietnam and praises medical treatment he has received since being taken prisoner." Saigon-UPI, June 4, 1969
"The English-Language broadcast beamed at South Vietnam was one of a series using American prisoners. It was in response to a plea by Defense Secretary Melvin S. Laird, May 19, that North Vietnam treat prisoners according to the humanitarian standards set forth by the Geneva Convention." The Washington Post - June 5, 1969
After being periodically slapped around for "three or four days" by his captors who wanted military information from him, McCain called for an officer on his fourth day of captivity. He told the officer, "O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital." -U.S. News and World Report, May 14, 1973 article written by former POW John McCain

McCain was taken to Gai Lam military hospital. (U.S. government documents)

"Demands for military information were accompanied by threats to terminate my medical treatment if I [McCain] did not cooperate. Eventually, I gave them my ship's name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant." Page 193-194, Faith of My Fathers by John McCain

Phoenix New Times, March 25, 1999 -- Two former POWs, Air Force Colonels Ted Guy and Gordon "Swede" Larson, said in a feature article that while they could not guarantee that McCain was not physically harmed, they doubted it. Both Guy and Larson were senior ranking officers (SRO's) in McCain's POW camp at a time he claims he was in solitary confinement and being tortured.
Larson told the New Times, "Between the two of us, it's our belief, and to the best of our knowledge, that no prisoner was beaten or harmed physically in that camp [known as 'The Plantation'].
"My only contention with the McCain deal is that while he was at The Plantation, to the best of my knowledge and Ted's knowledge, he was not physically abused in any way. No one was in that camp. It was the camp that people were released from."

Try to separate the real John McCain from the mythical John McCain.

The convention schedule is ridiculous. The best most direct speaker of the night was at 7 EDT, Dennis Kucinich said "Wake up America" as he laid out the crimes of the Republicans.
Now in primetime we have another dumb ,boring"town hall meeting"
The Clintons are most definitely not running this Convention; do you honestly think Obama would cede control to them? Seems like Howard Dean and the idiotic DNC are in control of this convention.
As Kucinich said Wake up America! Wake up DNC!
Strong speakers should be scheduled between 8 and 10:30 p.m. EDT! 10:30 is too late for Hillary to speak! I hope she's allowed to speak freely. My candidate, Hillary should say this to Deomcrats:
If you supported me, you must support Obama-Biden in this election. Theirs are my values, the same that I campaigned on. If you turn to MCCain and the Republicans after suppporting me, then your support meant nothing more than that I was a woman. If you supported me, and want me to continue to lead this country in the Senate for our shared values, then you will support Obama-Biden who will do more for working Americans and for women!"
Republicans are anti-women, demonstrated by their anti-equality, anti-choice, anti-family, policies. To switch to McCain from supporting Hillary would be ludicrous and childish.
Wake up DNC, revise this schedule and roll out the facts in prime time!

Judge Denies White House Request for Stay, Says Miers Must Testify

By Jason Leopold
The Public Record
Tuesday, August 26, 2008

A federal court judge on Tuesday denied the Justice Department’s request for a stay pending an appeal over a decision issued last month that said former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten were not immune from congressional subpoenas...

His ruling means Miers will have to appear before the House Judiciary Committee to discuss to testify about the role the White House played in the decision to fire nine U.S. attorneys in late 2006. Additionally, the committee sought an inventory of documents from Bolten related to the attorney purge. Bates said the administration would have to fulfill that request.

www.pubrecord.org/law/289-judge-denies-white-house-request-for-stay-says-miers-must-testify.html

Can we assume that Meiers will write her own opinion using Bolton's arguments and then have Bush attach a signing statement telling the federal judge to take it up with the Fourth Branch when he returns from destroying peace in Europe.

so anyhow here are my posts that i put in the wrong place or sumptin...

i must say that warner was pathetic. cell phones?? he is talking about cell phones and the country has been raped by right wing nuts, his points would be appropriate at a post election gathering to advise president obama as to what to try to get going in the first hundred days but to rally the troops? not even close...well he sets the table nicely for hillary to kick some ass...let's hope she does....

Posted by gregg on August 26, 2008 at 10:17 PM

warner's point seems to be that he will be able to triangulate even better than bill clinton...what a waste of time. hillary has one way to save the day...she needs to say that while it is true she said mccain has some strengths in the international arena HE WOULD BE A TOTAL DISASTER FOR OUR ECONOMY,ECONOMY, ECONOMY, ECONOMY...SCHOOLS, HEALTH CARE, SOCIAL SECURITY, INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS and so on and she needs to say ten ways ten times over and over...she needs to say that a mccain administration would be a complete disaster and must be avoided at all costs....if she does this she wins and so does obama...

Governor Brian Schwitzer of Montana stole the show at the convention tonight. He made his apt commentary both hard-hitting and funny. He's a very talented speaker and obviously an extremely intelligent man.

On the other hand, can somebody tell me what Senator Clinton's message was? I couldn't find a theme appropriate to her stated goal of seeing Barack Obama elected. Maybe it's just me?

No sure, Tylin - did you post this

Then, too, Hillary Clinton is a class act. She believes in her Party. The last thing she wants is to see it divided. She has a long history as a Party loyalist, one who is perfectly at ease speaking truth to power. If she had serious doubts about Obama, she would have voiced them long ago. Your scenario is insulting to her!

If so, then you know - I've forgotten exactly how our "tylin" is spelled.

Bless her soul.

Not only did Hillary find her voice, she's not going to let anyone silence her. It's going to be her health plan that the American people get...and that we all know we deserve.

Good work, Hillary. You've lived up to your potential. Now make Bill live up to his.

I want him out in the rural areas of this country with all the black leaders he has joined with in the past making sure the poor (whether they be white, black, or Latino) know that they are not forgotten by the Democratic Party...just because they live in areas remote from the media's eye.

If you can move Bill, I'll keep going into those low-income apartment buildings passing along your message of courage and resolve...as I help seniors, single working mothers, and young under-employed men register to vote, change their address cards, and request absentee ballots...so they can vote for Barack Obama.

I've already found it there...hope...because you didn't give up. They know....they know you and Obama haven't given up. And neither are they.

So we move on together...united in purpose.

I look forward with the greatest anticipation for the speeches tomorrow night by Joe Biden...and the first black president who now passes on the torch to the first bi-racial president of the United States.

Good night, all. This just keeps on getting better.

changing the topic for a moment, here is something that needs some centralized planning to fix...and such planning will never happen in a republican administration because they believe "if there is a problem the market will fix it"...

The Energy Challenge
Wind Energy Bumps Into Power Grid’s Limits

By MATTHEW L. WALD
Published: August 26, 2008

When the builders of the Maple Ridge Wind farm spent $320 million to put nearly 200 wind turbines in upstate New York, the idea was to get paid for producing electricity. But at times, regional electric lines have been so congested that Maple Ridge has been forced to shut down even with a brisk wind blowing.

That is a symptom of a broad national problem. Expansive dreams about renewable energy, like Al Gore’s hope of replacing all fossil fuels in a decade, are bumping up against the reality of a power grid that cannot handle the new demands.

The dirty secret of clean energy is that while generating it is getting easier, moving it to market is not...

References to Katrina will remind most Americans of those government dependent citizens who knew not what to do when the government moved out of town. These were lifelong government leeches and when their local government deserted them and the Federal government was yet to arrive. If you are sitting on top of your house and the water is rising the last entity you should call is the Federal Government. (although the Coast Gaurd saved about 10,000 roof sitters in the early rounds)

Katrina reminds me that we must get healthy people off of the dole and into productive work.

203
Sally-* on August 27, 2008 at 03:52 AM

Here is my own list of 10 reason why Hussein Obama cannot win:

1) Not qualified by virtue of having no experience.

2) Friendly connections to known terrorists.

3) 20 year member of a racist church.

4) Friendly relationship with racist nutball, Anti American preacher of whom he said he could no more denounce than he could denounce his children.

5) Denounced the bastard (his preacher)

6) Pompous ass who sees himself as Caesar.

7) Goofy wife who has never been proud of America before.

8) He is a socialist if not an actual communist.

9) Big floppy ears

10) The black leadership says he is not a proper Negro owing to the fact that he has no connection to slavery other than the fact that his ancestors on his mother's side owned some slaves.

204
Sally-* on August 27, 2008 at 04:03 AM

This Presidential run will be the end of Obama's political career. He will lose big time 60 - 40 with perhaps no states - not even Massachusetts. He will not be happy in his Senator job anymore having failed at the second coming and will become a colorful character to be interviewed whenever a Negro succeeds at something exceptional.

205
Sally-* on August 27, 2008 at 04:11 AM

Obama may replace Jimmy Carter as America's biggest political fool this year. I had been betting Al Gore to claim that post but his time will come too.

Obama will lose this election big time and he will be a subject of ridicule for quite awhile to come. Especially after he emerges from that Roman cathedral for his acceptance speech. Pundits will say "he better win after all that or he is going to look like the town fool".

From Wisbang blog:

The Obamamessiah: now coming to you as a Greek God!
Posted by Cassy Fiano
Published: August 26, 2008 - 9:30 PM

Sometimes I wonder if there's a mole inside the Obama campaign... someone who plans stuff like this to intentionally make Obama look bad. Because I can't fathom how someone came up with this plan and kept a straight face:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.

The stage, similar to structures used for rock concerts, has been set up at the 50-yard-line, the midpoint of Invesco Field, the stadium where the Denver Broncos' National Football League team plays.

Some 80,000 supporters will see Obama appear from between plywood columns painted off-white, reminiscent of Washington's Capitol building or even the White House, to accept the party's nomination for president.

He will stride out to a raised platform to a podium that can be raised from beneath the floor.

The show should provide a striking image for the millions of Americans watching on television as Obama delivers a speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

Politicians in past elections have typically spoken from the convention site itself, but the Obama campaign liked the idea of having their man speak to a larger, stadium-sized crowd not far from where the Democratic National Convention is being held, at the Denver pro basketball arena.

Obama was taking a page from the campaign book of John Kennedy in 1960 when the future president delivered his acceptance speech to 80,000 people in the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Once Obama speaks, confetti will rain down on him and fireworks will be fired off from locations around the stadium wall.

You couldn't make this stuff up. Seriously... never would I have imagined that Barack Obama would plan something this ridiculous. And the guy wonders why most Americans see him as an arrogant, elitist snob. He tries to play himself off as an everyman, and then pulls this?! People are tired of the fawning adulation from the media and from Democrats. They're tired of the Obamamessiah passing himself off as some kind of Savior. If Obama was smart, he'd start coming down to Earth... using less of the arrogant God stuff and more of the "I'm just a regular guy" stuff. Performing a speech on a raised platform in a Greek temple with confetti raining from the sky and fireworks is more than a little bit ridiculous. Who in his campaign thought this would endear him to undecided voters? The only people who will like this are the people who are already locked in for Obama. The ones still deciding will be turned off by this. But hey, whatever makes his loss easier in November is good with me. And this was definitely not a good decision.

When your set-up is so ridiculous that it's impossible to use any snark, it's a sign that you probably should go with something more subdued. Just a tip.

209
Sally-* on August 27, 2008 at 05:12 AM

And remember, Obama is polling about 6 points higher than what the actual vote will reveal. This is because non repentant white guilt liberals are saying they will vote for Obama when in fact they won't.

Way to go you lousy prick President Asshole. How dare you send nuclear weapons to Georgia. When is this fucking arrogance going to end?

NATO has been increasing its naval presence in the Black Sea during the recent several days.

“The US Navy destroyer USS McFaul, which is currently docked in the Georgian port of Batumi, carries about 50 Tomahawk cruise missiles on board. They are outfitted with nuclear warheads and are meant to hit ground targets. The remaining NATO ships are currently concentrated in the northern part of the Black Sea,” a source in the military intelligence of the Russian Federation said.

He added that other NATO ships drifting in the Black Sea were armed with 64 anti-ship Harpoon missiles and about eight helicopters.

We need to start calling cindy "Axis Sally". Check it out on Wikipedia.com.

Johne on August 27, 2008 at 08:22 AM

Axis Sally looks like a neocon.

With her sultry voice, Gillars was a well-known propagandist to Allied troops. She often speculated about whether their wives and sweethearts were still faithful to them, and also played American songs. Her broadcasts were sometimes peppered with antisemitic rhetoric and bitter attacks on Franklin D. Roosevelt. Gillars usually introduced herself as "Midge at the mike," but American troops nicknamed her "Axis Sally." Some knew her as "the Bitch of Berlin."

Gillars made her most infamous broadcast on May 11, 1944, prior to the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France. It was a play called "Vision of Invasion," in which Gillars played an American mother who dreamed that her son had died a horrific death in the English Channel. An announcer intoned, "The D of D-Day stands for doom...disaster...death...defeat...Dunkerque or Dieppe." It was intended as a highly-exaggerated warning to any soldiers who dared come ashore that day.

The sensational, six-week trial ended on March 8, 1949. After long deliberations, the jury convicted Gillars on only one count of treason, for making the "Vision of Invasion" broadcast.

Gillars was sentenced to 10-to-30 years in prison

Axis Sally is in Georgia buying another summer villa on the Black Sea. She plans to shack up with cheney and rice. Double YUK!

Just Frank,
Knock off your lying bullshit. I went back and told Butte, that it had nothing to do with Vietnam vets in general!!

Hello Pam – first of all, you really should calm down. Reading through your posts on here you seem to be a keyed-up woman with some serious self-esteem issues. Just settle down and life will improve for you with a bit of luck.

Now, as to your rather rude comments to me regarding what I said in response you your insulting comments about veterans I wonder who you think you are fooling with your backtracking cover up? I went back and read that post of your and without a doubt you were totally out of line.

You happen to pull you car into a parking lot behind a Cadillac (already your envy evident in your use of the term “long gas guzzler”. People with money buy bigger cars. If they didn’t there would be no used Caddies to pass on to those lower income street kings who favor big rides, right? Pam, think carefully, can you name any politicians (pick from either side if you will) who ride around in big cars? If you’re stumped I’ll send you some names, many of which I am sure you will recognize immediately.

Next, the license plate “FIREMN”. You don’t like firemen? Men and women who risk their lives to put out fires and save lives? You should thank them for their duty not try to insult them with references to their “egos”. Yeah, men and women who risk their lives are a cut above the average sluggo. Get over it.

Apparently what seems to have rubbed you raw was the fact that this fireman, this veteran of war who risked life and limb in service to his country and his community had the audacity to display a bumper sticker contrary to your political opinions. WHY THE NERVE!!! No one can have such beliefs other than those that are in agreement with yours? What, we live in a communist regime? I bet if he would have had a bumper sticker that said “BUSH SUCKS” you would have instead been extolling his virtues rather than calling him foul names.

You apparently like make up so much. A big car, a bumper sticker and a few hats in the back window is all you need to weave some fantastic tale of this veteran’s motives, his self esteem, his military career, his commanding officers orders… my God woman you need a long nap!

It's great your brothers saw fit to serve their country. God bless them for their service to our country. Maybe you should try running your wild theories by them to see if they would approve of your make believe world and odd thoughts that erupt just because of a bumper sticker.

Good morning, all.

And ABC "News" "reported" last week that of the top 23 "richest" countries in the world the United States is DEAD LAST in infant mortality.

Posted by Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on August 27, 2008 at 12:31 AM

Yeah, where has the religious right been on the issue of more babies dieing than most other industrialized countries. They probably don't even know.

Posted by newsjunkie on August 27, 2008 at 01:30 AM

DPD/newsjunkie,

It's a puzzlement.

The Religious Right calls themselves "people of faith" like they exclusively hold that title. Until they start respecting other people's faiths the welfare of children in this country will be put on hold.

Unborn children soon become needy and abused if their needs put second instead of recognized as just as important.

Allowing your viewpoint to cloud the glaring needs of others is a sin rooted in pride. Those who put themselves first are not fooling their God or anybody else's with their true motivation.

Meeting others halfway is respecting them. There must be a consensus of people of good will and good faith. Obama and Hillary have reached out to them.

It's a beginning. But they must realize that we are persons of faith, too. My God is as real to me as their's is to them.

Gotta run. later.

Okay, having just watched Hillary Clinton on the floor of the Convention ask for a suspension of the rules and that Barack Obama be our candidate for president, I have to say, she is,indeed, a class act. Our party is enriched by her affiliation. Once in a while you have the privilege of seeing the genesis of a mythic figure: I think Hillary Clinton is someone whose mark on our party will be everlasting and glorious. My heart is overflowing. Thank you, Hillary.
