I have never heard Obama say he hates this country or he hates McCain or President Bush, What is the matter with you half wits?
Posted by Barbi on August 20, 2008 at 08:28 PM Ta-da!
But imagine the grief those Republicans voting "nay" or "concerned" took? I didn't check to see how many were re-elected. In today's GOP there's a sort of reverse Darwinism in effect - survival of the most unfit.
Really, just a hint, you people need to go and listen to Obama and read something more that the campaign material, stop reading the loony left wing blogs. You are doing him a great disservice by some of the crap you post here.
I'm not a supporter of Obama, but I would not smear him like you guys do.
I just think he is WRONG.

"Unfit" is putting it mildly.
Sounds like McCain is losing his marbles:
Now John McCain, who turns 72 in a little more than a week, can't even remember what he and his campaign say day to day. No wonder the McCain campaign won't let McCain talk to the press any more. He doesn't seem quite all there any more. To wit: Today McCain is claiming that he didn't question Obama's patriotism. Really? What do you call it when you say he wants to lose a war because it will help win an election? What do you call it when you say that Obama doesn't put his country first? When you say that Obama doesn't care about the troops? That's an attack on someone's patriotism. If we said those things about McCain, we'd hear all about how he was a tortured vet and we're attacking vets - so why when McCain says it about Obama are we supposed to shrug it off as nothing?
WEll nobody left to talk to, except the retarded democrats, sad just plain sad, maybee the DNC needs to pull down this cesspool of half wit commies.
Posted by Barbi on August 20, 2008 at 08:54 PM so why when McCain says it about Obama are we supposed to shrug it off as nothing?
Because we expect better of him - but that sentiment only goes so far.
Dors,
Of course we expect better of him. Problem is, he doesn't have it to give.
John McCain: The Man Without Shame:
Until McCain rises to his rhetoric, he deserves nothing from me, except, perhaps, my contempt.
Senator McCain, I am a civilian. I am a voter. I owe you nothing. I don't owe you your undeserved respect you enjoy in the media. I don't owe you deference. And I'll be damned if you suggest otherwise. I question your character, I question your fitness for office, I question your principles, I question your party, I question your intelligence, I question your processed nationalism. I owe you absolutely nothing. Nor do I owe your wife anything. Who is she to me? She is as much a private citizen as the woman she maligned months ago.
I don't owe you, and I resent you, and your party's, implication that I do. I don't care if you are prostituting yourself for a higher office. I frankly don't care that you were tortured, I don't care that you suffered, and I don't care that your ancestors served in the US military. Much of that is true for many Americans. You, "sir," are attempting to use that as a shield to excuse behavior that is frankly inexcusable and Rovian in character. This is a republican democracy with a civilian commander in chief, and the fates willing it will remain that way. You're pissing on it to serve your own ambition.
President Asshole is risking atomic war with Russia and shoving the deal up Russia's snoot.
What an arrogant prick. I'll bet that cheney staged the Georgian attack in order to scare Poland into accepting the deal. Hopefully the Democratic Congress will tell bush to GFH when he asks for funding.
"Rice denounced an earlier threat from a Russian general to target NATO member Poland, possibly even with nuclear weapons, for accepting the facility.
Such comments "border on the bizarre, frankly," Rice told reporters in Warsaw. "The Russians are losing their credibility," she said, adding that Moscow would pay a price for its actions in Georgia, though she did not specify how.
"It's also the case that when you threaten Poland, you perhaps forget that it is not 1988," Rice said. "It's 2008 and the United States has a ... firm treaty guarantee to defend Poland's territory as if it was the territory of the United States. So it's probably not wise to throw these threats around."
Hours after the signing, Russia's Foreign Ministry warned that Moscow's response would go beyond diplomacy. The system to be based in Poland lacks "any target other than Russian intercontinental ballistic missiles," it said in a statement, contending the U.S. system "will be broadened and modernized."
Alina Kesek, an 82-year-old retired office clerk who lived through World War II, when Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union divided Poland between them, and then experienced four decades of Moscow-dominated communist rule, said the Patriot missiles were a "kind of provocation" toward Russia.
"This means a threat from the Russian side," said Kesek. "I am not very pleased with this deal."
Democratic Rep. Ellen Tauscher, who leads a key appropriations panel for missile defense, praised the deal. But she said that Democratic lawmakers intend to withhold funding for the interceptors planned for Poland until they are properly tested, a move that could delay the deployment for years.
Approval for the missile defense sites is still needed from the Czech and Polish parliaments. No date has been set for lawmakers in Warsaw to vote, but the deal enjoys the support of the largest opposition party as well as of the government.
More............
I played around with this last night on a few posts but was too tired to do it justice. I finally had some time today to hammer this out and posted it on my blog this afternoon. I thought I would post it here too. Lets see how many of you can wrap your heads around this one:
There has been a serious injustice of Olympic proportions this summer. I am very troubled by the discrepancy between metal winners and non-metal winners in the Summer Olympics. A very small percentage of athletes at the top are now holding the majority of Olympic metals. This unequal distribution of metals has been plaguing the Olympics for some time and has yet to be addressed. It demonstrates the inequity and unfairness of the Olympic games and events. Why must there be winners and losers?
The news of Michael Phelps winning 8 gold metals has only exacerbated the problem and demonstrates the inequity of the Olympics in its worst extreme. Phelps is showing the world how glutinous Americans can be. He is demonstrating to the world how Americans take more than their fair share. The other swimmers have worked equally hard as he has. Why should he be handed 8 gold metals while the other swimmers walk away empty handed? The other swimmers have obviously been cheated out of their gold metals. In fact, Phelps’ own greed and lack of compassion has led him to steel these gold metals from the other swimmers with no regard to their personal well-being.
I think this sends the wrong message to the other athletes. It says to them that no matter how hard they work, no matter how hard they train, they still may not get the gold. Why should so few at the top hold all the metals? This inequity is especially ironic given that this event is being held in communist China where everyone is provided income and life’s necessities equally. It sends the wrong message to the world.
The correct policy for the Olympic committee would be to distribute the metals evenly among the competing athletes allowing each of them to equally share in the Olympic spirit. The committee could even distribute these metals before each event takes place. Doing this would relieve a great deal of undue stress on the athletes and allow them to simply enjoy the event he or she is participating. Imagine a utopian Summer Olympics where there are no winners and there are no losers. For now, we can only hope for a better future and change we can believe in.

McCain Rhetoric vs. McCain Reality:
MCCAIN SUGGESTED RATIONING VETERANS HEALTH CARE
Army Times: McCain Suggests Rationing Veterans Health Care. "Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain appeared Tuesday to suggest rationing of veterans' health care may be needed so combat veterans can receive the care they deserve." [Army Times, 7/23/08]
McCain: "We Need To Concentrate Our Efforts To Handle Those Wounds And Disabilities That Are Directly The Result Of Combat." During a town hall meeting in Rochester, New Hampshire, McCain spoke about healthcare for veterans and said, "So here's my idea, and it's not originated with me, but I've consulted with so many … others who are here. Look, we need to concentrate our efforts to handle those wounds and those disabilities that are directly the result of combat. We need to expand our ability to treat PTSD. PTSD is going to be tough in this war, you know that. And we need to treat the combat wounds. We need to increase that ability to do so." [CNN Live Feed, Town Hall (Rochester, NH), 7/22/08]
Lt. Gen. Robert Gard Jr. (USA, Retired): McCain's Idea Would Shortchange Other Combat Veterans. "These wars are the first to be waged in large numbers by a new generation of brave women - but 15 percent of our women soldiers that served on the front lines who walk into a VA facility screen positive for military sexual trauma. Is Senator McCain suggesting that we can't afford to give them benefits? Senator McCain's campaign did not return calls for comment about his statement, but these are questions he must answer. All veterans respect John McCain's service -- if he too respects ours, he should not be suggesting that we shortchange our soldiers with non-combat injuries who have served with such honor and dignity." [Huffington Post, 7/24/08]
Bush VA Secretary Calls McCain's Idea "Dangerous." "After touring the Manchester VA Medical Center, VA Secretary James Peake also said he is against giving veterans cards to let them receive treatment at non-VA facilities. 'That's called Yellow-Page medicine,' Peake said. "I think that potentially is dangerous." [Boston Globe, 6/24/08]
MCCAIN TRIED TO WEAKEN THE 21st CENTURY GI BILL
Bush and McCain Opposed GI Bill, Then Tried to Take Credit. "The Bush administration, and Sen. John McCain for that matter, initially opposed passage of the legislation, which was supported overwhelmingly by both Democrats and Republicans…McCain, campaigning last week, used language suggesting he supported the bill. In fact, McCain did not even cast a vote on the final measure. For Bush and McCain to try to claim credit now for a bipartisan effort they both opposed is a plain attempt to hoodwink the American voter." [Las Vegas Sun , 7/3/08]
Bipartisan GI Bill Covers The Full Cost Of Attending Public University; Under Alternative Offered By McCain, Vets Must Serve For 12 Years To Receive $2,000/Month. "Under the Webb bill, veterans would receive maximum educational benefits after 36 months of service and those benefits would be tied to the full cost of public school tuition and expenses in the veteran's home state. The Graham bill would require 12 years of service to garner a maximum benefit of $2000 per month, with increases in that figure tied to the consumer price index. Critics point out that the CPI has been steadily outpaced by tuition increases." [CQ Today, 5/14/2008]
McCain Admitted His Plan Was Designed To Strengthen Retention. "My proposal and others, Senator Graham, Senator Burn, is we'll place incentives for people to stay in the military." When O'Reilly said, "So the longer you stay, the more you get" McCain responded, "Yes, the more you get, because we want people to stay in…. We have to increase the benefits for the men and women who are serving and motivate those to serve." [Fox News Transcript, "The O'Reilly Factor," 5/8/08]
MCCAIN PUT TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH AHEAD OF VETERANS BENEFITS
McCain Voted At Least 27 Times Against Veteran's Benefits. Since arriving in the U.S. Senate in 1987, McCain has voted at least 30 times against ensuring important benefits for America's veterans, including providing adequate healthcare. [2006 Senate Vote #7, 41, 63, 67, 98, 222; 2005 Senate Votes #55, 89, 90, 251, 343; 2004 Senate Votes #40, 48, 145; 2003 Senate Votes #74, 81, 83; 1999 Senate Vote #328; 1998 Senate Vote #175; 1997 Senate Vote #168; 1996 Senate Votes #115, 275; 1995 Senate Votes #76, 226, 466; 1994 Senate Vote #306; 1992 Senate Vote #194]
McCain Has Voted At Least 15 Times To Prioritize Tax Cuts And Tax Loopholes For America's Wealthiest Over Funding For U.S. Veterans. Since his election to the Senate in 1987, McCain has voted at least 15 times in favor of keeping tax cuts and various tax loopholes for America's top earners, instead of providing valuable funding for United States veterans. [2006 Senate Votes #7, 15, 41, 63, 67; 2005 Senate Vote #343; 2004 Senate Votes #40, 48; 2003 Senate Votes #74, 81, 83; 1996 Senate Vote #115; 1995 Senate Votes #226, 465, 466]

I disagree on that point, Barbi - he does have it - whether he climbs out of Rush Limbaugh's toilette to give it is another question.
But the poster his correct ...
If Obama had cheated on his wife, if Obama had been at the bottom of his class, if Obama had been tortured for years in a POW camp, if Obama had been a "war hero," it wouldn't matter. Because there is nothing that could overcome the fact that Obama is a Democrat and, rightly or wrongly, perceived as a liberal.

Bubble world... McCain: ‘I Still Believe The Fundamentals Of The Economy Are Strong
It’s not clear which fundamentals McCain is referring to. Eight years of conservative management have left the economy with something other than “strong” fundamentals:
- Inflation is rising.
- Real wages are declining.
- Unemployment is increasing.
- Cost of food is rising
- Optimism about economy is declining.
- Foreclosures are still increasing.
McCain’s economic policies are promising more of the same. As Paul Krugman writes, McCain offers a “combination of irresponsibility and double-talk” that promises to be nothing short of “Bush made permanent.”
Learn to speak Maverick: Lesson one:
If there’s one thing we know about John McCain, it’s that he’s a stratight-talkin’ maverick ex-POW. (Don’t feel bad if you didn’t know the POW thing; he doesn’t like to talk about it much.)
Because he’s a straight-talkin’ maverick ex-POW, those who criticize what McCain says or, worse, disagree with him reveal themselves to be flip-flopping, politically correct anti-patriots who are willing to lose a war in order to win an election. Talk about an embarrassing faux pas! And a difficult one to avoid in light of the fact that much of what McCain says appears at first glance to be, how to put this delicately? incredibly stoopid, certifiably insane or both. [snip]
What those who criticize or disagree with McCain fail to realize is that the Senator speaks an non-standard English dialect known as Maverick. Wikipedia describes a "non-standard dialect," such as southern English, as having "a complete vocabulary, grammar, and syntax, but [it] is not the beneficiary of institutional support." By understanding the vocabulary, grammar and syntax that distinguish Maverick, you can learn what Senator McCain actually meant when he said that thing the other day that sounded so stoopid or insane. And you can avoid that embarrassing moment when the conversation stops and all eyes turn to you and you can practically hear everyone in the room ask themselves, "Who in Heaven’s name is that flip-flopping, politically correct anti-patriot who is willing to lose a war in order to win an election? And do I have to be the one to beat the tar out of him or her? Or will someone else do it?"

No doubt we'll hear that The Army Times (Gannett) is liberal. Though there are an awful lot of enlisted posting on their blog - but those are the liberal ones I'm sure - the one's pealing potatoes.
bush: bush's lights are out because the bulb was fried by drugs.
cheney: The lights are out because he wants the bulbs can't get the best of him.
rice: The lights are out because her elevator is stuck in 1988.
mclame: The lights are out and no one is home.
Then we will just have to agree to disagree, Dors. If he ever had it, he has most certainly lost it now.
McCain In His Memoirs: "It Had Become My Ambition To Be President"
What our media seems to either ignore or believes isn't relevant is McCain's own words in his own political memoir describing why he ran for president in 2000:
"I didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president. . . . In truth, I'd had the ambition for a long time."

No lurking around tonight, I was just catching up on the news on CNN and this just broke my heart.
Back to your regularly scheduled blogging, it's bedtime in Georgia.
Have a nice evening all.

If he does - we owe him our thanks again.

Oh, GOD NO! I heard some radio "rip and read" guy talking about that last week, and I wondered why NO other news source was talking about it, so in 2 minutes using the Googler Tubez I found out that it came from (yet again) one of the best print satirists alive, Andy Borowitz. He does the same thing as "The Onion" and has the "distinction" of being picked up by "legitimate" "news" sources that never bother to do what I did in 2 minutes. USE THE GOOGLERIZING TOOBZ!
Here's what started it. (It was published in several papers, I linked to HuffPo because it was easiest to find. Just use the Google-de-gook magic thing-a-ma-jing stuff to find several more "news" sources" that have MISUSED a SATIRE piece and used it as NEWS!!! (Hint, they are ALL right wing sites).

So, if people weren't familiar with Andy Borowitz, or the placement of his column in some papers, and NEVER read the damn thing, ONLY the headline, they would have missed the disclaimer at the bottom of the article which clearly states:
Andy Borowitz is a comedian and writer whose work appears in The New Yorker and The New York Times, and at his award-winning humor site, BorowitzReport.com. "Quick Draw John" -- McCain's new moniker courtesy of Richard Clarke:
Seth Colter Walls has a fascinating article over at HuffPo, entitled Richard Clarke: "Quick Draw John" McCain Wanted War Before Bush Did...
According to Walls, both the Obama and McCain campaigns held conference calls today to discuss national security.
Joining Rice on the Obama call was former National Security Council counter-terrorism adviser Richard Clarke, who dubbed the presumptive Republican nominee "Quick Draw John." Clarke drew on his experience on the NSC to talk about McCain's own judgment after Sept. 11, 2001, saying that McCain was pushing for war with Iraq before the Bush administration had even made its own mind up on the matter. "Sen. McCain had already decided," Clarke said. "He and his neoconservative foreign policy types that he agreed with are one of the reasons that George W. Bush decided to go to Iraq."
Clarke blasted McCain in an area that most Obama surrogates have feared to tread -- patriotism:
When asked by a reporter whether it was inconsistent for Obama surrogates to accuse McCain of misleading the public while also saying that discussion of patriotism should be out of bounds, Clarke had a retort ready. "I'm sure he [McCain] loves his country. It's just that loving your country and lying to the American people are apparently not inconsistent in his view."

but when consumers want the ability to prosecute what should be illegal business practices - they are suppressing economic growth.

When men choose a president, at least some part of our thinking is probably those stone age instincts we used in selecting the leader of the war party. Women probably didn’t do much of the stone age war, so they might have some other kind of default hardware—mate choosing, for example. It’s entire plausible that the criteria that served for those stone age war leaders are less than perfectly applicable to modern circumstances, but aspiring politicos need to keep those old instincts in mind.
What did you want in your SA war guy? Courage, leadership, trustworthiness, initiative, pugnacity, vigor, celerity in judgment and action, decisiveness, and good judgment. Conversely, you didn’t want cowardice, meekness, passivity, lassitude, vacillation, or bad judgment. [snip]
And how can you trust a guy who changes his principles on everything from offshore drilling to torture every time Rush Limbaugh says "boo." He is an old man, and he has trouble keeping track of what he is talking about—you need to go after that like your survival and your children’s depends on it, because it does.

(The Twins STILL have the BEST hot dogs in the Major Leagues, BTW.) Cincy is coming up next. I'll fill y'all in in due time.

The enemy we face my dear friends, cannot be reasoned with, cannot be bargained with and will not stop, ever, until they have destroyed all who disagree with them.
well, perhaps I should back up a skosh and 'xplain what the hell I'm talking about:
Yesterday, Toby Keith, Platinum selling country singer most famous for his jingoistic anthem "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" (which contains the immortal lyric "well put a boot in your ass it's the America Way) and the nostalgic ode to lynching "Beer for my horses", surprisingly had a few nice things to say about Barack Obama
I thought it was beautiful the other day when Obama went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back and said some really nice things...I think he's the best Democratic candidate we've had since Bill Clinton
And our friends on the right reacted with a measured, sober analysis of the development that has become their hallmark.
Okay actually they went completely apeshit:

OK - you're right - we do really need to raise the quality our public debate.
But let's do that in way that doesn't disparage the uniqueness of my spaghetti gravy - and one that doesn't diminish the wonderful bratwurst and hard rolls you can pick up in Sheboygan.
Who, The Twins? I don't really follow the Minor League (AL) teams. All I know is the Chubbies are postponing their "June Swoon" until the Fall, and they will be hitting the links during the World Series. And the (UGH) Sox, too. Never mind the first place rankings of both of them, it just means there is farther to fall. (The Sox also have horrible dogs, but their deli cut corned beef on rye is EXCELLENT!

Funny how that works - since they consider black men (not sure about black women) descendant from apes
I guess they think white men and women are descended from flipper.
Well Miss Okotoks would you mind posting some of the apeshit stuff??

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson last month described a proposed federal backstop authority for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as a "bazooka" whose mere presence would silence market unrest over the viability of the two mortgage finance giants.
But just weeks after receiving the new weapon from Congress, the Treasury looks increasingly likely to have to use it, at a cost of billions of dollars to taxpayers.
A deepening American housing slump, mounting mortgage losses, and rising borrowing costs are conspiring to shatter confidence in Fannie (FNM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Freddie (FRE.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), especially among their shareholders, who fear a de-facto government takeover will wipe them out. Shares of the two government-sponsored enterprises plunged to their lowest levels in 18 years on Wednesday.
"I think the number of options are dwindling every day that we see declines in the stocks. It has become virtually inevitable that the government has to nationalize Fannie and Freddie," said Kevin Cronin, chief investment officer at Boston-based Putnam Investments..."

It is time to be very clear, here is what this election is about.
Tell the people what they need to hear, the Republicans have no plan to deal with the economy. So, if you vote these Republicans back into office here is what will happen.
* There will be massive layoffs, foreclosures, and a huge credit crisis with no foreseeable way out if the Republicans are put back into office.
* Small businesses will fail, and then mid-cap companies too. Many people will lose their jobs and many jobs will be shipped overseas.
* You will lose your life savings, your medical insurance and even your car. Families will suffer and children will go hungry.
I just finally caught on, Gregg. (The internet is just a series of tubes, and it takes a while for the information to transfer, ya know.)

God help us if Obama defines the new patriot.
So, the MILITARY DRAFT is on the table now, at least McCain thinks it's not such a bad idea. When asked about a possible draft at the latest of his many "town hall" meetings, he agreed with one right leaning woman that going after AlQaeda might require a draft. With the current two wars and McCain's tough talk, there won't be enough poor men and women to fight in all the places he's looking for us to intervene militarily. This guy is so scary, and the self righteous people who plan to vote for him don't seem to be at all concerned about his over-the-top military jib-jibe.

Yeah, because the government is so good at running things.
They already have nationalized passenger rail lines and if I want to go to Denver to go snow boarding from Minneapolis it is simple, I catch a train to Portland and then get on a train to Sacramento where I can catch a train to Denver. Repeat in reverse to go home. It only takes about 8 days if the trains should happen to be on time. And the tickets only cost an arm and a leg.
I think you should move to Cuba where they already have communism and a nicer climate than the Hudson frickin valley.

Piss on you ya degenerate communist.
Hussein Obama has no chance of winning this election and you probably know it. He will lose 60% to 40% just like Mondale.
A black Mondale at that. The Democrat rank and file didn't vote for Mondale. Do you really think they are gonna vote for a black Mondale? A black Mondale who has been a member of a racist church for 20 years, associates with known terrorists and approves of infanticide? (Being the only IL Senator to speak against the anti infanticide law and the only one not to vote for it) And is many times the socialist that Mondale is.
Good luck with that moon bat. And greggy, don't forget to recall this prediction after the election.
Skeptics Win One! NOAA/NCDC to Pull the CCSP Report
Regular readers may recall on August 1st a posting where I stated my views on the NCDC report being produced by Dr.’s Karl and Peterson of NCDC (National Climatic Data Center) called Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States. They also had a little help from Susan Hassol, writer of the HBO Special Too Hot Not to Handle, produced by none other than Laurie David. That explains the “emotionally based graphics’ in a science document.
I wrote then: “To say the least, I’m shocked that NCDC’s leadership has changed from being the nation’s record keeper of weather and climatic data, to being what appears to me now as an advocacy group. The draft document reads more like a news article in many places than it does a scientific document, and unlike a scientific document, it has a number of what I would call “emotionally based graphics” in it that have nothing to do with the science.”
About the same time, Dr. Roger Pielke Jr. revealed that Ms. Hassol appeared to simply move some of her website’s claims into this self-proclaimed official U.S. government “highly influential scientific assessment.”
Readers were invited to submit comments to NCDC about the CCSP Report, and I’m pleased to report that many of you did. The National Chamber of Commerce also got involved, and submitted a very strong rebuttal to this document.
What a concept; publish the basis for the claims first, THEN publish the document that outlines the claims (The CCSP report seen above). But nobody is rushing anything, right? “Tipping points” with no definitions, calls for policy? That’s advocacy, not science.
We’ll keep a watchful eye on this as there remains potential to “synthesize” abuse of the public trust. My sincere thanks to everyone from this blog who provided comments and insight. And lets give the U.S. Chamber of Commerce a salute for taking point on this. Lots of people contributed to forcing this change; including Pielke Jr and Senior, Joe D’Aleo of Icecap, Fred Singer, Pat Michaels, Steve McIntyre, Chris Horner, Marlo Lewis, and dozens of bloggers who helped get the word out, plus thousands of readers.
Warning, strong opinion follows: This report’s contents and the “cart before the horse” way it was produced is the biggest official “crock” perpetrated on the American public I’ve ever been privy to. On a personal note, there are days when I struggle to keep doing this, at times I think I’ll just shut down the blog, turn off the surfacestations website, and return to a normal and hassle free life. Days like this keep me going.
CONSTITUTIONAL SCHOLAR OBAMA QUESTIONS LEGALITY OF SLAVERY BAN
August 20, 2008
This week, Barack Obama's challenge is to select a running mate who's young, hip, and whose accomplishments in life don't overshadow Obama's. Allow me to suggest Kevin Federline.
The only thing we can be sure of is that Obama will choose someone who is the polar opposite of all his advisers until now. In other words, it will be a very, very white male who was probably proud of his country even before being chosen as Obama's running mate.
Obama's got a lot of ground to make up following that performance last weekend at the Saddleback presidential forum with pastor Rick Warren.
After seeing Obama defend infanticide with the glib excuse that the question of when life begins is above his "pay-grade," Rev. Jeremiah Wright announced that although he's known Obama for 30 years, he only recently became aware of how extreme the senator's viewpoints were. Wright, after all, has his reputation to consider.
Network heads responded by dashing off an urgent memo: During the main presidential debates this fall, ask NO questions about abortion, ethics or evil! Morality isn't the Democrats' forte.
Obama's defenders spin his abominable performance in the Saddleback forum by saying he's just too smart to give a straight answer. As Rick Warren charitably described Obama's debate performance: "He likes to nuance things ... He's a constitutional attorney." The constitutional lawyer "does nuance," as Bill Maher said on "Larry King Live," "and you saw how well that goes over with the Rick Warren people."
If that's Obama's excuse, he ought to know a few basics about the Constitution.
Did the big constitutional lawyer whose "nuance" is too sophisticated for Rick Warren's audience see the letter his wife sent out on his behalf in 2004? Michelle Obama denounced a federal law banning partial-birth abortion, writing that "this ban on a legitimate medical procedure is clearly unconstitutional." Clearly!
The Supreme Court later found the law not "unconstitutional," but "constitutional" -- which I believe may have been the precise moment when Michelle Obama realized just how ashamed she had always been of her country.
But most stunningly, when Warren asked Obama if he supported a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman, Obama said he did not "because historically -- because historically, we have not defined marriage in our Constitution."
I don't care if you support a marriage amendment or not. That answer is literally the stupidest thing I've ever heard anyone say. If marriage were already defined in the Constitution, we wouldn't need an amendment, no?
Say, you know what else was "historically" not defined in the Constitution? Slavery. The words "slavery" and "slave" do not appear once in the original Constitution. The framers correctly thought it would sully the freedom-enshrining document to acknowledge the repellent practice. (Much like abortion!)
But in 1865, the 13th Amendment banned slavery throughout the land, in the first constitutional phrase ever to mention "slavery": "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
On Obama's "historical" argument, they shouldn't have passed the 13th Amendment because the Constitution "historically" had not mentioned slavery.
Do we know for a fact Barack Obama has read the Constitution? Obama's Facebook profile: "I'm pro-infanticide, I love sunsets, and I don't get the 13th Amendment!"
This is the guy who thinks he can condescend to Clarence Thomas? Asked at the Saddleback forum which Supreme Court justice Obama would not have nominated, Obama said ... the black one!
In Obama's defense, he said he thought Thomas wasn't experienced enough "at the time." So I guess Obama thinks Thomas should have to "wait his turn."
By contrast, Obama has experience pouring out of those big ears of his. Asked last year by Robin Roberts on ABC's "Good Morning America" about his lack of experience in foreign policy, Obama took umbrage.
Swelling up his puny little chest, Obama said: "Well, actually, my experience in foreign policy is probably more diverse than most others in the field. I'm somebody who has actually lived overseas, somebody who has studied overseas. I majored in international relations."
He actually cited his undergraduate major as a qualification to be president.
But on Saturday night, Obama said he didn't think Clarence Thomas was a "strong enough jurist or legal thinker" to be put on the Supreme Court.
I bet Thomas has heard of the 13th Amendment!
COPYRIGHT 2008 ANN COULTER
Obama is going to drag the ticket down to the point that the Democrats may not get any of the expected gains in the House and Senate. They may in fact lose ground. L:Lieberman is expected to turn Republican when he speaks before the convention. That is one you must pick up just to stay even.
Mary Landrau is going to lose in LA and Tim Johnson is going to lose in SD because SD voters do not elect Senators who talk like retards. So that is 3 you have to make up to maintain status quo.
Franken cannot win in Minnesota because Minnesotan's are already sufficiently embarrassed for electing Jesse "the moron" Ventura and are not likely to elect another clown. Franken, in fact, faces a primary challenge from Federal Judge Miles Lord's daughter.

Glibness is offensive and should be avoided.
I posted the comment about McCain and Craig as a test. The blog responded by telling me I could not post and it wouldn't even give me the correct screen to sign in on and yet the comment posted. It's magic!
Morning JohnBoy,
mclame is buddies with hagee and parlor who hate the Catholic Church and gays respectively.
ghouliani was stumping for mclame yesterday in California saying that the people won't mind that his VP is for abortion. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
both mclame and ghouliani are apparently without moral character. They both dumped wives. Why is that any different than Edwards.
mclame apparently spewed like a rat in North Vietnam so they wouldn't hurt him. He did it over 30 times. Where is the video of him on television. I remember seeing it. Has this been locked in the bush the first library like bush's record as Texas governor?
mclame is acting like president in this Georgia affair to gain points with the American people. How come his top lobbyist has been kissing it up with Georgia for years now. If Obama did this he would be pilloried and hung out to dry.
Is there any justice left in America or is it saved just for Democrats.
mclame is not fit to be dog catcher let alone president. He might make a good bird.
sally is on the phone a lot these days trying to sell his mom's drug paraphernalia now that he and dan put the rest of her remains thru a wood chipper...
JohnE,...McNuts is doing too well right now. Obama should be ahead by 20 points over this foolish old man. McNut's negative attack adds are working, too well. It's time to turn a couple of our "junkyard" dogs loose on McNuts. In a way I hope Biden is number two. And another thing I don't understand is why Obama does not attack McNuts on where the money is going to come from to finance his future wars. From the Chinese for our grand children to pay off?
from the wapo:
"Socially moderate former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani..."
so now "socially moderate" is the new description of adulterer?
gregg,
Why is adultery ok for neocons but not ok for Edwards. Throw them all under the bus. Family values my ass.
If mclame's lobbyist coerced Georgia to attack South Ossetia then mclame is a war criminal of the first order. Several thousand innocent civilians were brutally murdered with our weapons. Then that asshole mclame blames Russia.
This just sinks like a turd in anyone's punchbowl. Why do we let this SOB Vietnam traitor get away with this shit.
Do our beer-swilling, red neck, pseudo Khristian voters not see that mclame is a war criminal just like bush and cheney. They are going to vote for the prick too. This country is doomed with asshole voters like these. We should start deporting these red necks. They are too damn stupid and/or selfish to call themselves Americans.
Is KKKarl working for mclame now. This Nazi pig asshole should be slapped in solitary confinement awaiting trial for election fraud with no human contact whatsoever until November 6, 2008.

I do not hold it against you, that your State's residents made some mistakes in the past, in the voting booth! :)
I worked with a group of Republicans, and we had our share of good natured ribbing back and forth, but they were not the ilk of the Republicans of this day.
I buy books like this one just to keep the smile on my face.
The Strange Death of Republican America: Chronicles of a Collapsing Party (Hardcover)
By Sidney Blumenthal
Blumenthal scrutinizes the past and present state of the Republican Party, which he believes portends the incipient demise of their vaunted political machine and the Republican era since the Nixon administration. The issues on the table range from the legacy of Nixon’s imperial presidency and its influence on Dick Cheney to Karl Rove’s failed strategy for political realignment, as well as conflicts within the military and intelligence communities over Bush’s policies, and the underlying political shifts that are demonstrably weakening the once-strong foundations of Republican philosophy and governance
I pray it is true.
I do not consider those that troll here are Republicans, per se. If they were not here with their hatred against Democrats, they would be on some other blog, like a religious one, a Music one, a sports one, whatever. It is a deep seeded core of hatred that must be spent somewhere, and the Democrat's blog will do for now.
Maybe this article politics.com will clear up mclame's fitness to be president of the United States. You can't see it but I am waving my flag furiously and cheering for mclame. NOT!
John McCain has stood in the way of many a family, loved one and groups from getting our MIA’s and POW’s back. Even though they have more enough proof that there were over a 100 POW’s that were still being held and sent to other country’s. These groups and families point out that John McCain himself is stopping them from getting our fellow countrymen home.
Why?
Fellow POW’s are sure the reason is he was a coward and a traitor as a POW in Viet Nam and it would ruin his political career if this were ever to find its way to the main stream media. They have put together eye witness accounts that describe McCain’s traitorous actions during his time as a prisoner in Viet Nam by his fellow prisoners. Former Senators, Governors and political records flat out nail John McCain as a scared little man on the run from a history of lies and deceit.
Fellow POW's say John McCain was a Coward and a Traitor in Vietnam
Did anyone watch CNN's show on the Real John McCain and the Real Obama last night?
I thought the McCain one "glossed" over his wife's Crimes ! I cannot picture her as First Lady with a Criminal past! Anyone coming to stay over at the White House in the future would have to make sure their RX drugs were locked up ! They also skipped pretty cleverly over the fact that when he starting dating Cindy, that his Real wife was disabled, etc.
And they said at the end, how his disabilities were from torture! Now that is an outright lie, as has been proven to be from his not knowing how to jump out of his plane. See the Vietnam Vets Against McCain website.
As usual, the media is afraid to scrutinize McCain too closely, because the campaign will turn it around into a hit against his magnificant POW record!n "Songbird" McCain gets away with murder again !
Moring Pam,
Even if we showed videos of mclame kissing Ho Chi Min's ass the knucklehead, ignorant righties would still vote for him. Go figure.
Morning, {{Johne}}
If only those Vietnam Vets could put enough money together to run some ads ! I send them a few bucks from time to time, but it costs so much to run them. there are tons of videos on line, with reports of Songbird MCcain and his Real record in Vietnam. It is time for the American public to know that he was anything but a hero!

Remember that British newspaper 4 years ago, that asked "How Can 60,000,000 Americans be So Stupid"? these same naive people are out there being manipulated today!!!
Two things this morning. I was listening to the debate on why Obama has gone from a 15 point lead to a minus 5.
Simple. Negative ads work. You don't win elections by being nice. John Kerry found that out. Obama, if the lastest polls hasn;t shook up his staff, should know that by now.
I guess the bottom line is very simple. Either Obama wants to win this thing or we pack it up and stay home for 4 more years.
Being nice isn't going to cut it. The question is to Obama - do you really want to win or is this just a show you're putting on?
If it's a show - then you can go to hell.
If you want to win it, then get off your ass and start pounding McCain.... the choice is yours pal.
Johne, I forgot about that. I saw McShame chairing a committee on looking for the POW's. The woman and people who's family members are POW's were saying that the govt. is no finished. McShame was rude and was getting up and walking out on them while they were crying begging him to not stop looking for them. McShame basically said they were finished. Hello 527's, this coupled with his being against the GI Bill should sink his ship with the independants.

First, you have to find a station that will run it at any price. It's not just a matter of money!
Good morning, all.
I'm getting so excited. I'm pumped. And I'm crossing my fingers that it's going to be Biden or Hillary for VP.
Either one will grill McCain and whip up our supporters. Obama will close the deal with his demand that the neocons stop starting unnecessary wars and weakening our military...and his strong economic agenda for the middle class, working poor, seniors.
McCain is just an older version of the that dysfunctinal, rich, and war-mongering Bush. He can only offer more of the same incompetence, arrogance, rash irresponsibility, and corruption which has made America a shadow of it's former proud and posperous self.
It's time to give a serious, calm, and determined member of the next generation a chance to solve the problems that McCain's generation refuses to admit exist.
Obama facing life with the same fair and balanced perspective that that other President from Kansas did....Dwight Eisenhower. It's time to get back to our roots.
Gotta run. later.
I just heard on the CNN radio news that rice is in Iraq screaming at the Iraqi government telling them to sign the agreement.
They aren't about to sign an agreement that gives amnesty to blackwater for their atrocities against the Iraqi people. They are also against it because it does not contain a timeline. I'll bet anything it also gives all their oil away to cheney's buddys in Enron, Chevron, BP, etal.
Why does she even bother. Nothing seems to sink into her thick head. THEY WANT OUR ASSES OUT OF IRAQ. Why can't these arrogant neocon imbeciles get the message.
I also heard that some foundation said that this is not a war and that the terrorists are common criminals and should be treated as such. bush has wasted our military and that dimwit opportunist mcmoron just doesn't get it. GROW UP MCCAIN!
bbl. Got to work on my garden gate.
Only a few days until the Convention. Will we have a working blog by then?
Hi Everyone. I saw a comment earlier by someone saying that they hoped Senator Obama would pick Hillary Clinton as his VP running mate. I highly doubt Obama would make such a pick as that because he knows he would constantly be battling her for control of t he White House.
McCain has a "Hitler" mentality. He must be defeated. He will do more damage than Bush has done!
The new thread isn't working..... it seems like everything is going to hell around here.
What is going on with this party???? Obama blows a 15 point lead - the blog doesn't work.
Will somebody please do something????
OMG, his senile dementia is getting worse! He will have to have his staff get back to them!
Now this is NOT a man who could ever identify with the middle class!!! Ever since he ditched his disabled wife for a 17 year old younger wealthy one, he has shown his true colors! I often wonder if old Blondie Cindy did not have all that money and the power it buys, if he would have given a shit about her??
McCain Doesn't Remember How Many Houses He Owns
John McCain said in an interview with Politico on Wednesday "that he was uncertain how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own."
"I think -- I'll have my staff get to you," McCain said. "It's condominiums where -- I'll have them get to you."
The answer, according to the group Progressive Accountability, is an even 10 homes, ranches, condos, and lofts, together worth a combined estimated $13,823,269
When I see McCain out there, ranting how Obama will not admit the Surge was a sucess, I grit my teeth!!! WHY Obama does not come out and say, because the REAL PURPOSE FOR THE SURGE, I.E. MORE TROOPS GOING IN, WAS TO GIVE THE GOVERNMENT THE TIME TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER !
They have NOT! So NO the Surge was not a sucess, you old piece of crap !!
Key US Iraq Strategy in Danger of Collapse
»
by: Leila Fadel, McClatchy Newspapers
Baghdad - A key pillar of the US strategy to pacify Iraq is in danger of collapsing because the Iraqi government is failing to absorb tens of thousands of former Sunni Muslim insurgents who'd joined U.S.-allied militia groups into the country's security forces.

francespryor, they let John McCain run absolute lies on CNN, maybe obama needs to start slapping some lawsuits on stations that won't air the truth but will aie a lie.
See Pam - why doesn't the Obama camp use something like that and simply ask the question "if he can't remember how many homes he owns, how can he relate to the common man?"
CNN is almost giddy this morning, watching Obama in VA, and thinking he is probably going to choose Kaine as his VP ! They are so eager to be the first to jump on it!!! Will it make a difference, whoever it is? I don't know.
I think Kaine is another unknown.
newsjukie - Obama needs to start doing something...blowing a 15 point lead sends a message that what he has been doing lately isn't working... that isn't the media's fault - that lies squarelt with the Obama campaign... I'm getting this sinking feeling that it's beginning to look just like Kerry's...
If we have another "nice" convention folks - the party is over....

The Olympics, just like every other sport are competitions where you do have winners and losers.
When my kids were young I coached them in a few sports, where the score didn't matter and wasn't really kept and everyone was winners. This was ok with me because the emphisis was on the kids having fun and learning the sport. As they got older the sports became more competitve. They had to learn to win graciously and lose humbly, but respect all of their competition, from first place to last place.
I define being the best as playing the best and beating them. If you lose, which is a good life lesson, it means you have to go back and work harder and improve for the next time.
Phelps won his 8 gold metals because he set a goal, worked his butt off for that goal, and was greatly rewarded. There was no guarantee that he would reach it but it was a chance he was willing to take. He reached that goal by 1/100 of a second, which is as close as you could get.
A tip of the hat to all the competitors in the Olympics for having the courage to take a chance and work hard towards your goals. Even if they came up short of a metal, they came out way ahead for the work they put into it and competed at that level.
If he can't remember how many homes he owns, and he can't remember that Iraq doesn't border Pakistan, and he can't remember who the federal reserve chairman is then he is too CONFUSED to be president.

Not only are you a babbling bafoon, but you are quoting a babbling bafoon. Everyone who reads your post is now a little dumber. Thank you for that.
Obama, in a historic speech said that the answer to slavery was enbedded in the very fabric of the Constitution, yet this country struggled with it for many decades after the Constitution was ratified.
Still getting OOPS! on the new thread. Do you think the RNC thread has these problems?
It's already afternoon and the morning thread is still not working. It's already Convention time and the Party is still in disarray. If Obama doesn't go with Hillary Clinton or Wesley Clark, we can start printing up President McCain stationary.
McCain is wooing Hillary's disgruntled supporters and some of them are angry enough to vote against Obama. Obama really needs her on his team.

I wonder how all the protesters at the DNC convention and the reaction to them will play in the national media. If we get a lot of coverage of riots in Denver it will certainly hurt the image of the dems.

frances, do you think asking HRC to be his VP will be an asset to him? I wonder if this is a wise move. She'll cause him no end to trouble with internal power grabs.
And the posts keep disappearing.
The primary election process is beyond ridiculous. The caucus states are so easily manipulated. Then we have the super delegates who can vote for whomever they choose, regardless of the peoples' choice. We should have a standardized election process for all 50 states and the nominee should be chosen by popular vote, not by randomly chosen delegates and super delegates. The Party can slant the outcome to suit themselves, but the people will be heard.
I like Obama but I think that he, like John Kerry, is too nice. Maybe they have seen too many Batman movies where good always triumphs over evil. Bush and McCain, on the other hand, have seen too many John Wayne pics and Wayne never served a day in the military. He, like Bush and McCain, was just good at acting the part of a shoot-em-up hero.

Yes, I think she would be a tremendous asset to him. I think she is controlled enough (unlike Dick Cheyney) to realize that she would have a certain place in the administration. I also think her advice to the President would be invaluable. Hillary Clinton is no loose cannon.
Michael Moore's Election Guide 2008 -- Just Released
From the publisher:
After a disastrous war, the failure to catch bin Laden, millions of families who have lost their homes, the Katrina debacle, soaring gas prices feeding record oil company profits, and the largest national debt caused by the biggest spending and borrowing administration in American history, the country has had it with conservatives, right-wingers and Republicans. A thrilling election season is now upon us. Obama vs. McCain. One candidate has promised a presidency different from any other, one that will take us forward to embrace the hope of the 21st century. The other candidate says he has no idea how to use a computer.
Welcome to MIKE'S ELECTION GUIDE -- Michael Moore's effort to make sense of this fall's race for the White House and Congress. In it, Moore answers the nation's most pressing questions: "Why is John McCain so angry?," "Do the Democrats Still Drink from a Sippy Cup and Sleep with the Light On?," Can I get into the Electoral College with only a 2.0 gpa?" and "How many Democrats does it take to lose the most winnable election in American history?"
Let's use "OUT OF TOUCH" at the top of the blog for our new afternoon open thread???
This election is getting comical. McCain hasn't even used the best available material on Obama and Obama is collapsing.
In what should be a big year for Democrats, the only question now remaining is how far will Obama drag down voter turnout while snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Hillary Clinton is no loose cannon.

That's where you and I as well as Obama's camp disagree. She turned loose just a little of her "stuff" on him during the primary battle and the DNC is very concerned about what she has up the sleeves of her pantsuit for the convention.
She feels she was robbed of the nomination and will never play second banana to Obama. Remember one thing, Bill Clinton has long ago gave up trying to keep her under control and Obama knows that. Besides, with Hillary in the White House old Bill will be back with his own agenda.

Hi Sally. You are correct about that! The McCain camp is sitting on some good stuff that would be wasted if used prematurely. After the convention the sh*ts really going to hit the fan against Obama so we'd better be prepared for some nasty politics.
With what moral authority do these mainstays of the neoconservative, corporate elitist, greedy, self-interested Washington regime speak, when in their own closet there are skeletons labelled Abu Ghraib, Iraq, Guantanamo, mass murder, war crimes, illegal invasion, torture, illegal detention, disrespect for international law, denial of due process, rape...?
That Bush and Rice are wholly incompetent to hold their jobs has been patently obvious from the beginning, when Rice started off by making insulting and derogatory remarks whenever she mentioned Russia, yet while as National Security Advisor prior to 9/11 failed to provide any national security whatsoever. Talk about being downright abrasive and rude, hardly the behaviour required for a lady diplomat, but then again, nobody ever expected any better because she is not a diplomat, never was, never will be. She is a cheap, dimwitted guttersnipe, an apology for a lady and a human being and wholly unfit to hold the office and serve her country, both of which her very presence insults.
