Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

More Dishonest McCain Attacks

Posted by Matt Ortega on August 8, 2008 at 01:53 PM

Throw John McCain's latest dishonest attack ad on the heap of other dishonest attack ads released by their campaign.

John McCain is running an entirely negative campaign. That's what happens when you run on the politics of the past and the failed policies of George W. Bush. He has absolutely nothing to run on. At all.

So all the McCain campaign has left are flat out, bald-faced lies.

ANALYSIS: The McCain campaign's oft-repeated assessment of Obama's tax proposals is based, in several instances, on outdated material that has been widely debunked. Obama has said his plan would raise taxes on single people making more than $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000, which by all measures doesn't add up to middle class.

See the Obama campaign response below:

“This ad is a lie, and it’s part of the old, tired politics of a party in Washington that has run out of ideas and run out of steam. Even though a host of independent, nonpartisan organizations have said this attack isn’t true, Senator McCain continues to lie about Senator Obama’s plan to give 95% of all families a tax cut of $1,000, and not raise taxes for those making under $250,000 a single dime. The reason so many families are hurting today is because we’ve had eight years of failed Bush policies that Senator McCain wants to continue for another four, and that’s what Barack Obama will change as President,” said Obama campaign spokesman Hari Sevugan.

Unfortunetly, negative comments and ads WORK!

Obama and the DNC and other Liberal groups MUST start hitting home!!!

Did you all see the moment on TV the other day, (or the youtube video now), where McCain was asked a double question, and totally lost it? could not remember a couple seconds later what the question was? They then altered the video and are running THEIR version on the net.

It was absolutely scary to watch the man blubber and not be able to remember ! This Old Man MUST NOT become President of our country, or we are truly doomed !

Good Morning,

Analysis the just of the republican argument.

If the Democratic Party and Obama cannot or will not respond to negative ads from a political opponent, what is their response to a terrorist attack?

Are they going to bury their head in the sand and hope it goes away?

So, now we are all to ignore Edward's lies?

Pam B
I hate to tell you but Obama also flubbed a statement he made in a speech - and it was reworked.

Duh.

8
Ex-Dem on August 10, 2008 at 01:10 PM

And by the way - isn't it age discrimination to call McCain and old man?

Matt,
It appears that the front page KA blogs have become only a place for trolls to play.

Is this to remind people who come to the DNC blog how awful it is to be a republican?

Would it not be a better idea, if that IS the purpose, to open a string FOR THEM, and block them from the rest of the blogs so we can have a place also?

Open thread maybe could be OURS?

Thats funny. Bush and his Repug lapdogs are the main reason terrorism is on the rise. And McCain IS an old man, because he believes killing and stealing is the only way for our country to get ahead just like other old timers like Caesar Alexander.and Bush. Its time for a change.

my dear ex-dem ( or is that you, MN Thomass or Danny the Fanny, playing your games?)

there is 'flubbing' a statement and then there is an outright, clear sign of Senility which is a symptom of old age which proves this man is not capable of good judgement and to be the leader of this country!
So it is discriminating to call McCain "Old"? Well, when you are with your Republican friends, what do you call Obama, just out of curiousity. Bet it is a lot worse than the term 'old"!

So go peddle your hatred somewhere else there old sicko! If this is all you have to do with your time, (trolling hatred on blogs), then you need help!!!!!!!!!! duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Distract....
Bring up John Edwards infidelity and harp on that. Despite the fact that what he displayed was a silly human fraility, bring it up again and again.

Ignore the crimes of the Bush regime.
Ignore Iraq.
Ignore the lives it cost.
Ignore the shredding of our Constitution.
Ignore torture.
Ignore corrupt governance.
Ignore the deficit.
Ignore the economy.
Ignore the veterans coming home without proper care.
Ignore global warming.
Ignore http://www.republicansexoffenders.com/
Ignore McSame's lobbyist problem.
Ignore McSame's affair.
Ignore McSame's 61 flip-flops!
I could go on and on...

But, no.

John Edwards had an affair!
(I guess the MSM forgot to tell some folks that John Edwards dropped out of the race a few months ago...)

HOPE! CHANGE! We are who we've been waiting for!

I'd much rather have this old man as president than a truly naive, inexperienced young man as president any day. And I'll tell you what Republicans call Obama in private - we call him what he is: a hopelessly out-of-touch elitist.

John Edwards for VP! Drill here, drill now!

Matt & highserenity:

I do not consider myself a troll. I have always been a Republican however I have voted Democrat from time to time. McCain disgusts me and I came here to learn more about some issues that were bothering me, mainly the windfall profit tax. I was disturbed by the blatant lies on the front page of the Democrat website. I understand politics but why lie to people if you really believe in what you stand for? I have posted a couple of facts and am probably now considered a troll. If so, well I'm sorry that we cannot have an open debate. If you want to block dissenting voices, why don't you also require a loyalty oath? Sorry to take up your sacred space.

How can the Republicans with this old man possible make any improvemnets when they don't even realize there are any problems. They have to continue to cater to the out of touch right wing morons that are upset they can't bring back the 50's. No matter who the Democrats nominate they have someone in the wings ready to write a book about how awful that person is. Hallelujah I've waited a long time for the down fall of the hypocrite party.

Information from The New York Times Election Guide 2008 reports Barack Obama will only raise taxes on the ‘working’ individuals and families ‘earning’ more than $200,00 to $250,000. Tax increase DOES NOT include retired persons, unless they receive income over a certain limit, which includes Capital Gains. The ‘working elderly’ with an ‘income’ of less than $50, 000 will have their taxes TOTALLY ELEMINATED.

READ BARACK OBAMA’S TAX PROPOSAL STRATEGY IN THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE PAPER MOST FAMOUS FOR BEING CAREFUL WITH THEIR WORDS WHEN REPORTING ON TAX STRATEGY AND TAX CODE STORIES.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WORDS ‘EARNINGS’ (What is worked for) AND ‘INCOME’ (Which can include all forms of income). THEIR IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ‘INDIVIDUALS’ AND ‘WORKING INDIVIDUALS’ WHEN DESCRIBING TAX STRATEGY. Don’t let Republican leadership aggressively play on tax anxiety; let both parties constituents relax.

The following is the entire information documented by The New York Times web site in their Politics Section from their Election Guide 2008. (Remember, take note of the ‘Times exact words.)

Barack Obama
Democrat
U.S. Senator
On the Issues: Economy/Taxes

Said his plan for tax relief to middle and working classes would help stabilize the economy; repeal the Bush tax cuts for households earning more than $250,000.

SAID HIS PLAN FOR TAX RELIEF TO MIDDLE AND WORKING CLASSES WOULD HELP STABILIZE THE ECONOMY

He would repeal the Bush tax cuts for those earning over $250,000 and raise capital gains taxes. He would cut $80 billion in taxes through, among other things, a $1,000 per family tax credit, eliminating taxes for elderly workers making less than $50,000.

Barack Obama, Democratic Debate, January 5, 2008 - “That’s why I have proposed specific tax relief now, immediately, so that we would offset some of the payroll tax, that we would immediately put some additional dollars in the pockets of American families, working families typically making $75,000 a year or less.”

REPEAL THE BUSH TAX CUTS FOR HOUSEHOLDS EARNING MORE THAN $250,000

Cut taxes by $80 billion a year for workers, homeowners and retirees. Give credits to working families; eliminate income taxes for elderly workers making $50,000 or less. Keep estate tax. Raise capital gains taxes to as much as 28 percent.

(As I understand it, households who have income over $42,000 who receive income from Capital Gains will have the most Capital Gains tax. If ever you are not sure or sure if your source is sure, ask O.K.?)

This is actually a comment on Sarah Palin rather than John McCain - but, as they are essentially two peas in a pod, it applies to him as well...

I think it is interesting and revealing Sarah's comments about Barak Obama's "work" as a "community organizer" - how she and John both have jobs that have "real responsibilities." A cute dig, that...

Either Sarah forgot, or doesn't know, that the entire network and coordinating committees of the party are community organizers...! - They are the ones who hit the neighborhoods of every community in America, who ring doorbells, who set up and operate local offices, who make calls to raise money, register voters, announce meetings, bring peoples and organizations together around issues and matters of import to local people, who act as advocates for people in their dealings with various established power centers - in other words, they do "community organization" work...

So, if Sarah forgot this supporting cast in her own party who are community organizers, she did them a dis-service by denigrating their work - if she forgot them, then shame on her for not valuing them and their work for her and John McCain...! - If she didn't know that that's what her people are actually doing, then shame on her for not being a good administrator and valuing them and their work...!

Then - she either doesn't know, or does and doesn't value the target population of community organizers, which is an even more important matter...

Barak Obama, and a host of other community organizers, worked for and work for those who are disadvantaged, those who are on the bottom rungs of the societal ladder, who are typically poor, without resources, and have major needs for something or someone to make the playing field level - these are people who are more often than not, people of color, they are women, children, the elderly, and those with a variety of challenges - they usually have no power or resources as they deal with established centers of power, and need someone to act and speak and advocate for them....community organizers are a time-honored tradition and "work" that is truly for the people...

Sarah's comments display her ignorance of and disconnect from the disadvantaged of our country - it shows a callousness that is a barrier from "all" the people - it shows at base for whom she is working, when she says she is "working for you" - it isn't for people for whom community organizers work, for people of color, women, the children, the elderly, or those with challenges requiring something to act as their equalizer...

There is a reason that the pigmentation at the convention is what it is...
