Morning again, Dems.
There is excitement in the air. It is Convention Time. Make sure you stayed tuned!
Hillary releasing all her delegates by Wednesday. Hopefully that will start the healing.
I am finding it of interest that there are questions by the like of Carville, etc, as to WHY Hillary and Bill were not consulted on the VP choice! Now I would like to ask him, does he think Obama would have/should have been consulted had this been Hillary as the Nominee? I think they would have laughed at that idea!
Good grief. I would think some time, money and effort would have been put into this blog in time for the Convention! Won't any newcomers be impressed when they cannot post or view comments!
I hope the DNC is not going to even bother having one of their staff try and live blog like they use to. What's the use?
For those of us who are old enough to remember the Gene Kelly film with "The King Who Couldn't Dance", John McCain gives us this:
John McCain’s War On Blogs
btw,
did you all see the Madonna video she has out, comparing McCain to Hitler and other Evil things in the world!?
LOL, it is great ! And McCain campaign so pissed at it. I find it so amazing how Wealthy people all back Democrats!!! They could make out like bandits under Republican's Welfare for Wealthy tax plans, but they understand that taxes are the price one pays for a Civilized Society!
Could we please hire a teenager to fix this blog site?

Looks like we will have to call him McHitler from now on. Heil McHitler.
Mccain is a fascist pig of the first order and we just can't let him steal the White House. He has said so himself that there will be more wars.
I'm so fed up with MSM telling me at every turn why I shouldn't vote for Obama, why he wouldn't win and what's wrong with him and his campaign.
I'm sick of these people giving the republican jerks a free pass and I'm sick of these people screwing up the elctions and tipping the scale against us.
Is there not one newscaster, besides Keith, that will give us a break?
It appears the website is under intense security and management upgrade for the Democratic National Committee Convention.
There's no contracting out security for this political party: your money is your write.
Pam - the reason why rich entertainers like Democrats is because if more of the middle class, and our numbers are much greater then those who are rich, were taxed less, we could spend our money on entertainment! It's the same thing with churchs. They don't want people to spend money on booze because come Sunday morning - there wouldn't be much left for the baskets!
Another colossal failure by the bush administration. bush would cut off his nose to spite his face. What a boob. By the way, we haven't heard from cheney lately. Is he in the Ukraine, Poland or the Wolf's Lair planning the great war with Russia to avenge the vaterland?
"US experts warn that the list of Moscow’s potential sanctions is a lot longer. Angela Stent, the director of the Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies, Georgetown University, said that Moscow may respond at the UN Security Council, where it can put obstacles on the way of US intentions to punish Iran for its nuclear ambition. All anti-terrorist programs, the struggle against drug mafia, Syria, Venezuela and Hamas can be added on the list too. There are many questions, on which Russians may stop their cooperation with the USA, with the cooperation in the energy industry on top of that list, the expert believes.
The International Herald Tribune wrote with reference to US outstanding analysts that Washington needed a lot more from Moscow than vice versa. The US needs to ensure the security of Soviet nuclear weapons, to obtain Russia’s help in the endeavor to make Iran and North Korea shut down their nuclear programs.
The sale of Russia’s arms is another problem. The governments of Western countries and Israel are concerned about reports saying that Russia started the shipments of first components of its S-300 missile system to Iran. The latter may subsequently use the powerful systems to down US and Israeli aircraft.
Russia may complicate USA’s and NATO’s supply of the coalition in Afghanistan In April, Moscow gave France and Germany a right to transit non-combatant cargoes via Russia. Russia’s ambassador to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin, said that the West should not bite the hand that feeds 50,000 servicemen in Afghanistan. Moscow can offer show pressure of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, which the USA would like to use for their operations in Afghanistan.
Russia may hit USA very hard below the belt
Thanks bush.
"Flynt Leverett, a former National Security Council senior director and CIA senior analyst, said that Moscow was becoming a very important buyer of US Treasury bonds and US government agency issues. The specialist believes that those officials, who urge Washington to put forward various ultimatums to Russia, would hardly prefer Moscow disposing of its dollar assets. Leverett wrote for The National Interest that Moscow was sounding out opportunities of selling Russian crude for roubles, which would obviously affect long-term dollar positions."
bush and cheney are totally oblivious individuals who live in a dream world of fairies and elves.
If we screw Russia with sanctions, they will screw us back in spades. Your move bush.

It's not just TV media, the Montana sub-Standard is at it again this morning with another right-wing propaganda piece. This one is about the Surge and how wonderful it was, last week was one of those "Obama's going to take all our guns" rants.
I imagine all the other Lee Enterprise papers in the small towns in several states in the west and mid-west are printing the same piece this morning too.
A lot of people depend on these small town papers for local news, which may or may not be covered in a timely manner, but they always are Johnny on the dot when it comes to the right wing crap.
For real home town news here, I read the Butte Weekly, which is an independent, free paper. It was started about 10 years ago, amidst predictions that it wouldn't last out the year, and has steadily gained readership. People do prefer hearing (or reading) the truth.
PLease blog, work today. I just want to lurk like I always do... (Then delete this because it adds nothing...)
Nevermind. Even the Repubs-in-Hillary clothing site lets me lurk.
Good luck DNC at your convention.
Hello Kieth. I see you're having problems too. This site doesn't work very well. I was hoping to stay up on the newsy stuff during the convention but this site is pretty quiet.
The Repugs are desperate. Did you see they have an ad now, with some bimbo pretending she was a Hillary supporter, and NOW she is supporting McCain??
these people are not Democrats. Never were.
These people do not care about the US of A. Never did.
These people did not really even care about Hillary! Hillary is asking them all to come together and vote for party unity. Hillary can roll in the Presidential role in 2016! It would be a natural progression, seeing as how Biden will not be running.
These people need attention! they like to hear themselves bitch! They like to pretend they are such feminists---wanting a female President, but they are weak minded little people.
Well, let's see if the blog lets me play today.
I am listening to a political talk radio station coming out of Denver via the internet. The host is talking about Ward Churchhill making speeches out on the street by the convention. That guy is a nut case. I hope he has a small audience.
I hope Hillary blasts the hell out of those people who SAY they are her supporters, but are anything but! She speaks tomorrow night I believe.
Ted Kennedy going to try and make it tonight?? I hope to be able to watch that!
God Bless and Cure Ted Kennedy! What they have done for our country,( rich men who did not think of their own wallets, ) has been astounding!
I think it was Mark Twain who said, "There are three kinds of lies, lies, dam' lies, and statisics!" so if you are a tv watcher you can discount the big polls broadcast incessantly that show McCain and Obama tied in a dead heat. Obama is ahead, and nobody knows by how much because they're all too busy manipulating the numbers to make it look like he isn't.
Register and vote, and vote Democratic if you love your country, its Constitution, and your family.
Moscow was becoming a very important buyer of US Treasury bonds and US government agency issues. The specialist believes that those officials, who urge Washington to put forward various ultimatums to Russia, would hardly prefer Moscow disposing of its dollar assets.
Johne,
this is why the USA is now an impotent, weak little country. We are owned by countries that would not think twice about bankrupting us. If they can't defeat us with Nukes, they can take us down financially and US dollar wise. Bin Laden laughing his ass off at George bush and how he has weakened this country and our security!!!
Still no one can give a reason to vote for Obama, sad and this is a DNC blog.
Is there not one newscaster, besides Keith, that will give us a break?
Posted by Kathy_from_Indiana on August 25, 2008 at 10:09 AM
Keith is not a "news caster", maybe that why you make dopey post.
In the English-speaking West, pundits write signed articles in print media (blurbs included), and appear on radio, television, or the internet to opine on current events. Television pundits may also be referred to as talking heads.
Punditry has become a more popular vehicle in nightly newscasts on American cable news networks. A rise of partisanship among popular pundits began with Bill O'Reilly of Fox News Channel. His opinion-oriented format led him to ratings success and has led others, including Lou Dobbs, Keith Olbermann, and Nancy Grace, to express their opinions on matters on their own respective programs.
I'm totally embarrassed. Here we are at the opening of our convention during one of the most trying times of our country in recent memory during the most explosive tech times of our lives and the one method which has become the only method of communication between us - is still not working
ONLY 66% OF CLINTON SUPPORTERS BACKING OBAMA: It’s a dead heat in the race for the White House. Barack Obama announced Saturday that Joe Biden will be his running mate. The first national poll conducted after Barack Obama publicly named Joe Biden as his running mate suggests that the battle for the presidency between the Illinois senator and John McCain is all tied up. In a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Sunday night, 47 percent of those questioned are backing Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominees, with an equal amount supporting his Republican opponent, McCain. “This looks like a step backward for Obama, who had a 51 to 44 percent advantage last month,” said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
Florida Republican party chairman, Jim Greer, insults Democrats. Worse than his usual remarks.
Florida Republican says Dems will "register anything with a heart beat -- anything"
You can tell they are really getting worried in this state at the organization of the Democratic party and the Obama campaign. Democrats have registered 250,000 new voters since January, and the Republicans only 98,000.
But they do not have to spew such insults. It is all they know how to do...attack.

Aaaawww! Greer's just jealous because die-hard Republicans don't have heartbeats because they don't have hearts. ;-D
Good morning/afternoon.
Boy oh boy! The lawyer equity partners are running around very disgruntled this morning – especially if one mentions Biden’s name. They’re hissing, booing and generally po’d. Ha!!
I couldn’t have been more proud on Saturday watching and listening to Sens. Obama and Biden. It’s highly possible we can win this come November!
Yeah, let the less than enthused republicans stay home thinking that McCan't is going to win anyway. Do you really think a true dem will vote for McCan't. They might stay home, but they are not going to wait in line to vote for him. His own party can't stand him. The man has no mind. Isn't very smart to start with and has memory loss issues.

That Troubled Terrorism List
»
by: The New York Times
The massive terrorist watch list is unsearchable. (Photo: State Library of New South Wales)
A half-billion-dollar emergency program to repair the nation's main and deeply flawed terrorist watch list is "on the brink of collapse," according to a Congressional investigation. That means that warning signs of a terrorist attack could again be lost in the chaos.
The new program, known as Railhead, is intended to fix the problems with the current outmoded program. That database - begun as an urgent priority after the Sept. 11 attacks - has been bedeviled by an array of problems, including the inability to do basic searches to find suspects' names.
Bush administration officials have been pronouncing Railhead a success. But the investigation by a House Science and Technology subcommittee found it crippled by serious design flaws, management blunders and runaway contractors. Hundreds of private contractors from dozens of companies involved were recently laid off as government managers finally ordered a fresh overhaul in the face of "insurmountable" problems.
Some of the flaws discovered are mind-bogglingly basic.

Look how much more exciting the CNN's and MSNBCs make it, saying their polls say they are neck to neck!
The secret to this election will rest on one thing. that is the GOTV effort! We MUST get those millions of new voters we signed up during Primaries out to the polls.
Start working on that in your own corners of the world.
I hear McCain is not over 50% in his own State of AZ! Now THAT is telling, isn't it, when the people who are your constituents think you are not capable of leading this country !!!

Taxes are the responsibility of a society for the common good and general welfare of that society. They pay for things that we as individuals cannot. Which would you rather have, taxes or roads, schools, banks, electricity, running water, etc.? I think there is no need for lower taxes for the middle class. What there is a need for is a living wage for the labor market. Someone has to pick the produce, sweep the floors, etc., and they should be able to make a living at it. No, they probably won't be buying a mansion, but they shouldn't have to live in a van down by the river. And when they are able to afford decent housing, they shouldn't have to worry that one little medical problem is going to shatter their lives.
Err, that was supposed to be "no taxes"....sheesh, that just makes that whole damn paragraph complete Dan-like...in other words, it makes no sense.

Hi Blue,
The entire world is excited over and for Obama! As was proven in Germany, with 200,000 people who came out. (and not for the free concert, as was proven by those who said no one left after the concert and food, they stayed and listened to him)
Can you imagine the International papers THIS time around, if McCain gets in??? OMG, they will think we are nothing but a country of mentally ill people! Easily led.
Johne,
If Russia is such a great market for purchase of t-bills, then why has wall street pulled $10+billion worth of asset out of Russia in the last week?!?!
Please Johne, go invest in Russia?? ...as everyone is exiting!! Wish you the best of luck!!??
Obama is an intelligent and thoughtful man. He is not decisive because he knows too well that things are not either black or white. His IQ is 168, he is well versed on every topic of concern to the american people. He knows what it is like to be born without much, how important those government programs are to help the poor get a leg up and go to college. America is only as strong as it's weakest link, when we help the sick and the poor, america gets better, we become a stronger nation.
Just think if the republicans had their way. If you didn't have a clinic to help the poor. That poor sick person spreads that sickness, then instead of the $50 bucks it would have taken to fix him, now 5 people caught it from him, and 20 people caught it from them and so on and so on. It actually saves the american people by helping those who don't have much because more people aren't out of work sick and the cost of health care is lowered. The republicans fail to realize this. They resent helping anyone but defend helping the rich. This is no what Jesus would do and makes no financial sense.
Johne,
Here the other side of the stupidity, T-bills are consider doom's day investment. Effectively if a country or region believe their currency or market is about to collapse they buy USA treasury.
Do you know who pays the interest on T-bills?
USA tax payer!!
When Russia buys USA T-bills, as it's market is collapsing because of war, USA tax payers are financing the interest payment to float the ruble!!??
For all effective purpose USA Tax payers selling T-Bills to Russia is preventing it's currency from collapsing!!
how important those government programs
Community programs. Conjures a much different picture, imo.

Unfortunately, in this economy, it isn't just unskilled laborers who are suffering. I have a friend, who is working as an accountant at a local (rather prosperous) business. She is only making $9 an hour. She's a single mom. She's close enough to walk to work, but that doesn't help with the rising cost of food. My daughter, who has a state job, is working a second job to make ends meet, because the pay raises Gov. Schwietzer promised, and delivered on in spite of the machinations of the Republicans in the legislature, helped, but weren't programmed to keep up with the outrageous costs of food and fuel, and she is trying to pay off student loans. She decided not to go for her master's degree, because she has a couple of friends who went for their masters' and aren't making any more than they did before, and now have student loans on top of everything.
These people thought they were working their way up to a middle class life, and are now basically being penalized for getting an education.
Things need to change, and we WON'T get any positive changes under McInsane.
Good morning, all!
While the GOP is having their hate and lie fest in MN Cheney will be cooking up their "October Surprise" in order for the war profiteers to remain in power. I doubt that either he or Chimpy have any plans to leave D.C. in January.
Cheney flees to Georgia during RNC week.
government programs/community programs right now both the government and our communities are broke. The country has been weakened greatly due to the mismanagement and the invasion of Iraq. Government programs are not bad words, screw the republicans I could care less what they think.
Oh chimpy and wimpy will both be leaving in January - they don't want 20 million people looking for them.
Posted by Butte on August 25, 2008 at 02:05 PM
That's true. The only thing that will help this country at this point is getting off the oil tit and putting regulation into the energy industry. I'm sorry, but energy is a matter of infrastructure, and as such, should be under federal regulation. It is a common resource of the people, it is not like retail.
bbl
Hello Johne,
I want to respond to one other item regarding your earlier statement about Russian investment in T-bills.
This is the most destructive form of taxation on the middle class and here is why:
1) Middle class Americans pay the highest tax, much of that tax is used to pay interest on the national debt; intestest payments on borrowed money, ie T-Bills.
2) Middle class Americans pay the highest tax on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the top end is capped so people making lots of money do not pay more as their income level rises.
3) Who's money is used to purchase back T-bills when those certificates mature? The only institution within the USA government that has excess cash in it's account and has been required to purchase only government T-Bills is Social Security trust fund. So when foriegn governments, large corportations and other institutions what to sell off their T-Bill, they sell it to Social Security Trust fund. Effectively you, tax payer, who paid excess funds into social security, is investing in a vehicle that is paid for by your taxes!!
If you look at this life cycle of these investment vehicles as a totality, it is triple taxation on the middleclass for the same money!!
Effectively devaluing your currency, government holdings and your assets because of debt!!
I have never heard of anyone who opens his own bank and paid himself interest and never investing in anything but himself become rich except for accrueing debt??
Government programs are not bad words, screw the republicans I could care less what they think.

Same old Dem attitude that has lost elections for thirty years now.
Really bbl, now.
I saw the comments on Wall Street pulling out of Russia. This type of economic punishment is t he type of thing that will hurt the Russian economy and serve to turn their citizens against Putin. I applaud such measures and much, much more by Western nations against Russia for that obvious move to extend their influence over former satellite countries.
Bad news:
Pakistan's Ruling Coalition Collapses Amid Dissent
By Candace Rondeaux
Washington Post Foreign Service
Monday, August 25, 2008; 12:29 PM
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 25 -- Pakistan plunged deeper into political chaos Monday as a top party in the country's coalition government vowed to quit the coalition and support an opposition candidate for the presidency.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N party, said he plans to vigorously oppose his one-time political partner, Asif Ali Zardari, leader of the Pakistan People's Party and widower of slain former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. The announcement, which came a week after Pervez Musharraf resigned as Pakistan's president, set off a heated race for the presidency and raised questions about the future of the shaky alliance between the United States and Pakistan's top political leaders.
If Pakistan's government collapses into total chaos there is a high risk of Islamic militants gaining control and with it the ability to launch nuclear weapons.
That's true. The only thing that will help this country at this point is getting off the oil tit and putting regulation into the energy industry.

CNN announced this morning that bush is sending cheney to Georgia. What earthly reason would bush do this other than to egg them on to war so bush can suspend the coming election.
Impeach them both NOW!

Cheney to visit war-torn Georgia
By BEN FELLER Associated Press Writer
CRAWFORD, Texas (AP)
President Bush is dispatching Vice President Dick Cheney to Georgia, setting up a high-ranking diplomatic mission to an ally reeling from war.
The White House announced Monday that Cheney will head abroad on Sept. 2 for stops in three former Soviet Republics - Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine - plus Italy.
...
The news comes as Russia's parliament voted unanimously Monday to urge the country's president to recognize the independence of Georgia's two breakaway regions, a move likely to stoke further tensions between Moscow and the small Caucasus nation's Western allies.

There’s a very simple solution to all this brouhaha. Put Bush and Putin together in a room devoid of any furniture and any other people, including translators. The room would include a video camera so results could be posted on utube. Then, let Bush and Putin duke it out. The one left standing, wins. With Putin’s vast experience in martial arts, there’s no doubt who will be left standing.
The bony ass pseudo-christian bates brothers were bitching this morning about Biden and his introduction of a bill back in 1994 for the protection of women.
They went on and on how unfair this was to men that don't pay child support and that abuse their wives. The bates brothers say that "it encourages women to file court orders keeping the "husband" away from their children and that is just not right."
BooHoo. The bill is aimed at the hillbilly bates brother types who say "the Bible instructs them to keep women in their place and barefoot and pregnant." "Women are only to speak when spoken to." "The lord says to keep them in their place."
Do you believe this crap.
That's all they've got against Biden.
These two are forever taking calls from obvious morons who ask "why won't Obama produce his birth certificate and driver license to prove he was born in the U.S?".
"Why does Obama hang around with known terrorists?"
These two need to be unplugged.
Then the entire world is in for a big disappointment in November. Obabma bin biden will lose 60% - 40%.

Up North may see patchy frost tonight
Here's some news you probably hoped you wouldn't hear for another four months.
The National Weather Service says areas of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin could see patchy frost this weekend. That's right, patchy frost in August.
The weather agency says clear skies could allow temperatures to dip into the low to mid-30s late tonight into early Monday.
Meteorologist Roman Berdes says an unusual cold-air mass from Canada will bring lower temperatures, but warmer air from the central Midwest should replace it by Monday.
Berdes says these temperatures are uncommon but not unheard of. He says those areas saw temperatures in the 20s at this point in 2004.
In the Milwaukee area, today's forecast calls for a high of 75 today and a low tonight of 54.
Only if you all can manipulate the voting machines one more time. Which state will it be this time? The same one's Ohio, or Florida. Or will it be Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, or Virginia? Woman in Spitzer prostitution case pleads guilty
Mon Aug 25, 2008 1:32pm EDT
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A booking agent for a prostitution ring whose clients included former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer pleaded guilty on Monday to a conspiracy charge relating to prostitution.
Tanya Hollander, 36, was one of four people charged with running the Emperors Club VIP, a high-priced prostitution ring broken up this year. She pleaded guilty to a charge of violating the Travel Act, which bans crossing state lines to carry out illegal business such as prostitution.
The other three charged have all pleaded guilty and await sentencing.

Nobody said it was going to be easy. Especially with the energy companies thinking that they can demand, and get, an unregulated monopoly on our energy. GregL is right on line about regulating the energy industry.
Ask anybody in Montana about what deregulation, foisted on the public by the Republicans did to the Montana Power Company, now Northwestern Energy, and their power (gas & electric) bills.
Without regulation the situation is not going to get any better, and the power companies will continue to monopolize power generation. We have at hand the means to decentralize power generation, and not only bring power costs back within the means of everyone, but make it possible to provide emergency backup to larger portions of the grid.
We need to re-regulate the power companies, and bring them, kicking and screaming though they will be, back into line.
We need to subsidize small wind and solar installations at the level of small businesses, homes, and farms/ranches.
Large unregulated monopolies don't work. I think that the last few decades of Republican and Republi-lite economic idiocy has proved that out.
Looks like the bushtards are experts on global warming and the climate.
Wow am I impressed.
The difference between "climate" and "weather":

Think how far ahead we could be right now, had they thought ahead! NOW, they want to just keep drilling, without any thought of what this earth will do when it finally sucks it's last drop of oil out of the ground!
Posted by PamB
The problem isn't a shortage of oil in the earth, it's a shortage of means to get it out of the ground and to the expanding market for it. Bottlenecks and barriers have been put up everywhere to stymie the use of oil without forethought as to what was going to happen when the shortages in supply occurred.
Alternate means of producing energy is a good plan but it will not replace the need for oil for a long time. Probably the one method of supplying energy on a large scale necessary to keep world economies growing strong will be through the increased use of nuclear power generation.
“Sign a Petition to Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide”
By Nick Mediati and Anne B. McDonald, PC World - Eight Crazy E-Mail Hoaxes Millions Have Fallen For
E-mail alerts outlining the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide swept the Internet in the late 1990s and still pop up today. Many ask that you sign and forward a petition to ban the chemical, which contributes to global warming, is a major ingredient in acid rain, causes metals to rust more quickly, and has been found in cancerous tumors. The chemical also contributes to the greenhouse effect and to erosion of our natural landscapes. It’s even in food. Sounds pretty dangerous. You’re ready to sign right now, aren’t you?
Well, let us tell you one more thing about dihydrogen monoxide: It’s more commonly known as water. You know, the substance that every single living being relies on to survive? The origins of this item are multifold, from flyers circulated at the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1989 (so 20th century!) to a junior high school student who surveyed 50 classmates in 1997 and got 43 of them to sign his petition to ban the chemical. He then won a prize at his science fair for his project, called “How Gullible Are We?” Several Web pages touting the chemical’s dangers are still live. Don’t feel too bad if you’ve ever fallen victim to this hoax; even a government official in New Zealand too the bait.
Gregl, I must disagree. It has been our concern for what the republicans think that has cost us elections. Apparently, last presidential election we were too nice. Nice doesn't cut it buddy. It is a tough world out there, why do you think the genius picked Biden. Duh
Butte,
Right on track. The repukes in California demanded deregulation of Pacific Gas and Electric Co. back in 2000-2001. Then governor wilson (an SOB republic) set up the next governor with failure. The repukes demanded that PG&E divest themselves of all their hydroelectric facilities, their geothermal facilities and power plants including nuclear power plants. They were to sell them to bush's buddies in Enron and other criminal companies from Texas and other states.
PG&E had almost all rivers flowing out of the Sierras dammed with power producing capabilities. They had one pioneering geothermal plant in Geyserville just north of San Francisco and a couple of "nukular" power plants in southern California. Two cities, Glendale and Burbank had municipal plants, and Los Angeles had a municipal power power.
You are probably aware of what happened when Enron and Duke power then screwed PG&E then the rate payers. bush's buddies really made out like bandits. One of them is dead and the other is probably in Paraguay with the money they stole from California.
Deregulation sucks as any Californian can tell you. I believe the municipal plants in southern California still have low rates.
The neocons set up the Democratic Governor and rammed through the recall election where they replaced the Governor with their buddy ahnold.

Just what we need weather men on the political blog. You would think that this global warming thing was a major topic in this election. GEE and i thought it was about the economy, and war, and health care, and schooling for are children, and retirement. Oh well what do i know.
Johne maybe Sally is a idiot, political weatherman, what do you think?
Posted by chassie on August 25, 2008 at 03:35 PM
The troll doesn't understand the difference between "weather" and "climate". He thinks the evidence against global warming is unrefuted if it snows in Minnesota.....nevermind that the world may have lost another glacier....
That's true. The only thing that will help this country at this point is getting off the oil tit and putting regulation into the energy industry. I'm sorry, but energy is a matter of infrastructure, and as such, should be under federal regulation. It is a common resource of the people, it is not like retail.

Bingo! The oil people are in it for all the money they can get - screw the people, the country and anything that gets in their way. We need Congress to pass some regulation so that they aren't walking away with billions of profit only to have their henchmen talk about how bad it is for them and that they're not making that much profit after the bills are paid.
We also need to get the Fairness Doc back. I have personally talked with station managers who won't put ANY left leaning on their programs. One even went as far to say to me that we have nothing to say... We need the Congress to come in and stop this one sided monopoly that the right has had in this country for far too long.
One more thing - I fear that we might lose this election. We have lost our power over the media and the right owns the air waves. Until we regain that control, it will very hard to win any election on a grand scale. I have been saying this for several years - we have to regain control otherwise - people like Rush Limbaugh and Fox News will dictate who wins....
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
checkmate rice! What is cheney going to do now, start a war with Russia to divert attention from bush's disaster in Iraq?

Man did you ever say a mouthful. Deregulation has been a disaster. That started with Ronnie Raygun.
I worked for the railroads for over 35 years, when i started i would hate to guess how many individual railroads they was at that time. Today their is only 4 major rails. CSX, Union Pacific, Burlington Northern, and the Norfolk Southern. These carriers, don't give a squat what the price of Oil is, the higher the oil goes, the more business they get. Trucking companies, cannot compete with them. They have to pay for all the increase in fuel. The big Rail Carriers, just past the cost on to the shippers, and guess who pays the shippers, we do that's who. Just look at all of the Major Rail Stocks, for the last year and you'll see what i mean. While every thing else has went down, the rails are up in stock value 40 to 50 percent in the last year alone, and even higher on some of them, why do you think that Warren Buffet, invested so heavily on the RailRoads!
Four years ago, we had a very "nice" convention. Al Sharpton was the only and I mean only speaker who stood up there and gave it to Bush/Cheney. He was the only one. Speaker after speaker spoke on how nice Kerry was, and what he was going to do for the country.
and then bam
The republicans came out swinging..and they stomped on us, and they made fun of us and they trashed every single issue that we tried to come up with. It was brutal. I was sick - just sick that we didn't give it to them first when we had the chance.
We lost that election.
Let's hope that we've learned our lesson. Let's beat the crap out of them and when we think they've had enough, let's sucker punch them again until they scream "uncle".
If we don't - we'll lose again... and the party will never be the same until we get someone who will come in and take it to the streets.
Kathy,
All the right wing extremist and religious freak talk show host are livid.
The religious freaks completely distort the facts and they are filing suit in federal court in Washington, DC. They say that they will be forced to put athiests on the radio and yatayatayatayata. These people are losers.
The repuketards like limpballs, hannity and cunningham are getting on it now too. The radio stations are saying that they will be forced to air "left wing" talkers.
It's all about money. A couple of years ago I complained to the manager of my local clear channel station who is a repig that he either must take these lying SOB's off the air or have balanced programming. I was told that it was a matter of ratings and I guess they get more money when they broadcast neocon lies. I was complimented on my "colorful" language.
The funny thing is that company that owns this commie station and the progressive radio station in Albuquerque is one and the same.
We must have the fairness doctrine NOW!
Hi everyone. I am a member of the ACLU and I just sent an email (after calling my local office) and asked the ACLU to host a 'forum' - similar to the forum hosted by Rick Warren - focusing on the candidates support for the ammendments included in the Bill of Rights and their (the candidates) interpretation of those ammendments. I personally feel that this would be a whole lot more relevant than discussing social/religious issues like the candidates did in the Saddleback forum. If you agree, please send email or call your local ACLU office. Remember, the Bill of Rights applies to everyone, not just the Christian Base of the Republican Party.
chassie,
I read this morning on the Associated Press where an Amtrak train ran out of fuel between Los Angeles and San Diego. The train was stalled for two hours until they brought another engine to push it to San Diego. WTF.
They are investigating what happened. I can tell them what happened. The bush crime family is trying to bankrupt passenger rail service and have cut the budget to the bone. They probably can no longer afford fuel.
The airlines are going bankrupt soon and the federal flight controllers will strike. bush is trying to privatize the controllers by making the federal employees look bad. He is cutting jobs and making controllers work long hours staring at the screen until they pass out at their work station. Talk about unsafe. bush is taking raygun's lead and trying to destroy the union. He is probably trying to destroy the pilot, Stewardess and baggage handlers union by bankrupting the airlines.
Welcome to naziville, U.S.A
If mcgeezer steals the next election, we will have more of the same.
Johne - I talked with two different station managers. A Mr. Mongomery told me that we have nothing to say. He is from 920 Talk Radio in South Bend Indiana. They have Hanniety on every day. The other station was WTRC 1340 in Elkhart Indiana. I talked to Gary Siebert. He also said it was rating but when I tried to pin him down on what company does the radio station use to find out who or what their demographics were, he fell short of telling me. After putting just a little pressure on him, he finally said "it is a gut feeling" that the station airs right talk only. A gut feeling.. I couldn't believe it. So I guess his gut votes republican....and thus, we have no freedom of speech in northern Indiana...yes..please bring back the Fair Dco - the sooner the better!!!
Johne here's a piece that i posted this morning, at the end of the last tread, about McNuts, and Amtrak.
BOSTON — Train travel is finally becoming a third rail of politics. The first one to fry over it might be John McCain.
For years, McCain, in the comfort of cheap gasoline for autos and airplanes, made Amtrak a personal whipping boy. Despite the fact that governments in Western Europe and Asia zoomed far ahead of the United States by supporting high-speed trains to relieve congestion, promote tourism and now as we are coming to know, save the planet, McCain has spent considerable capital in denying the passenger rail system the capital to modernize.
In 2000, when he was chairman of the Senate Science, Commerce and Transportation committee, McCain killed $10 billion in capital funding for Amtrak. He denounced Amtrak as a symbol of government waste, claiming, "There's only two parts of the country that can support a viable rail system - the Northeast and the far West."
He made these claims though Amtrak investment had the support of several notable Republicans. Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi warned that Amtrak "is guaranteed and doomed to failure if we don't give it an opportunity to succeed. If you don't have modern equipment, if you don't have the new fast trains, if you don't have a rapid rail system, it will not work."
Tommy Thompson, the secretary of Health and Human Services during President Bush's first term, was Amtrak chairman when McCain blocked the funding. Thompson said, "The traveling public are sending a distress call to escape our nation's endless traffic jams and airport gridlock."
Although Thompson claimed "remarkable progress in turning Amtrak around," despite a past where "it was not run like a business," McCain ignored the distress call. In 2001, then-Amtrak president George Warrington said the funding of rail in America was so bad, it was comparable to similar funding in Estonia and Tunisia.
McCain said, "Amtrak needs to make more progress before any further funding schemes are enacted," while at the same time calling any money for progress a "multibillion-dollar blank check." In 2002, McCain declared that "Amtrak should be restructured to eliminate its reliance on the American taxpayers and to allow for its privatization."
In 2003, McCain allowed that new Amtrak president David Gunn "increased efficiency rather dramatically." But McCain continued in years afterward to fight the capital improvements needed. McCain became a self-fulfilling prophet, making sure that Amtrak remained exactly what he feared it would be, "the albatross blocking the development of a program that actually meets the needs of the traveling public."
Suddenly, the traveling public is demanding the development of commuter and high-speed intercity rail. According to the American Public Transportation Association, light rail (streetcars) was up 10 percent in the first quarter of this year, commuter rail was up by 6 percent, and subways were up 4 percent (Boston subway travel was up by 9 percent).
The House and Senate have passed bills calling for new investments in passenger rail, creating the same federal incentives for states to invest in rail service, offering 80 cents for every 20 cents spent by the states. Barack Obama is a cosponsor of the Senate bill. Noting on his website that he is committed to the development of high speed rail, Obama said, "In many parts of the country, Amtrak is the only form of reliable transportation."
In the section of McCain's website called "reforming our transportation sector," there is no mention of rail. There is only his clean-car challenge to automakers, his $300 million prize to design battery cars, and enforcing only existing gas mileage standards. When The Washington Post reported on how President Bush's fiscal 2006 budget did not include a subsidy for Amtrak, would kill both $20 million for the next generation of high-speed rail, and $250 million for railroad rehabilitation, it quoted McCain as saying on television, "I'm glad the president is coming over with a very austere budget."
The luster of austerity is gone. Public transportation is becoming a real issue for the campaign trail. If so, McCain has all but handed Obama a golden spike to beat him over the head with.

Dems need to wake up and control the conversation.
The neo-cons are controlling the conversations on the Networks.
Talking points for Dems when idiocratic topics are being raised, like Hillary voters:
Lets talk about the economy instead of wasting everyone's time. Those that are going to vote for Obama will vote for Obama, and those that are going to vote for McCain will vote for McCain, but lets give them an intelligent conversation to make their decision. Lets talk about the Economy.
We also need to get the Fairness Doc back.
Posted by Kathy_from_Indiana on August 25, 2008 at 03:45 PM
Kathy's idea of fairness, force people to listen to leftist commies on the radio if they want to or not, by gun point, like Hugo Chavez would do.
Of course, should the Fairness Doc come back, that would apply to Air America too. But somehow I just believe that the people of Air America would welcome open debate. If we ever have open and fair debate in this country again, we will always win. Our message is right. People just need to hear it again.

Ever see the Movie, "Dumb and Dumber"? Looks like it is moving to Denver, as though they may find some fans there !
The Odd Couple strikes again?
Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani, onetime rivals for the Republican presidential nomination and — who knows? — possibilities for the vice presidency, have scheduled visits to Denver during the Democratic National Convention.
HAH! Obama's rapid response team is good!
Now THIS Is A Kick Ass, Snarky Visual Feast Of An Ad
TMH - yes. Every one of our talking heads when asked a dumb no reverent question should just simply say, I'm not talking about that topic; we have other more important conversation. The republicans don't want to talk about important issues. It's because they have nothing - and I mean NOTHING to run on. Period.
Dems need to wake up and control the conversation.
The neo-cons are controlling the conversations on the Networks.

I have written them and asked them to put in a left winger, or air some Air America for part of the day, but they won't! Now this is a Blue State, so I hae no idea who they think is listening to the bs !
i see dan is back. i guess sally wouldn't share it's mom's huffing sack anymore. maybe for election night we should send the trolls some jet fuel to huff and some matches to play with?
Ok - it's getting quitn' time here. Hope everyone enjoys the first night in Denver.
Let's all hope that we totally trash the SOB's til they bleed. I'm so sick and tired of these so called Americans who have almost destroyed my country. I want my country back...and it starts tonight.

as frank zappa wrote long ago:

The newsmen say they get the dirt
Before the guys on channel so and so
And further they assert
That any show they litter up
They bring you news if it comes up
They say that if the place blows up
They will be the first to tell
Cause the boys they got downtown
Working hard and doin swell
And if anybody gets the news
Before it hits the streets
They say that no one blams it faster
Their coverage can't be beat
And if another woman driver
Gets machine gunned from her seat
They'll send some joker with a brownie
And youll see it all complete..."
bwhahahahahaha,

Barack Obama is inspiring people to get involved with politics. To talk to neighbors. And now, even to make great art.
MoveOn members entered over 1,200 great paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and installations in our Manifest Hope contest in partnership with artist Shepard Fairey.
Check out the finalists in our Obama art contest—and the five winners that are being displayed in Denver right now. They're amazing.

McCain to use late-night comedy to reach out to voters in swing states
Wow, PamB thanks for the links those were awesome. Can't wait for the party tonight. It will be fun watching them stick it to the republicans - that's what the MSM is saying is going to happen, hope so.
Mary_Memphis that is a great idea. This country needs a Bill of Rights lesson. Most people that complain to me that the dems haven't done anything about gas prices don't know there are 100 senators 2 from each state, they don't know how many are dems and how many are republicans. Because they don't think that far, the republicans can tell them anything and they believe it. It is time the country got a political science lesson from the dems.

Is she going to shack up with Rasputin while she is there. What the hell right does she have to go to Georgia to talk politics?
If Michelle Obama did this we would never hear the end of it. mcgeezer is a treasonous POS.
rasputin shouldn't be interfering just now in Georgia. He has done enough damage to last a lifetime. Every time he goes over there he badmouths Putin and Medvedev. What does rasputin hope to gain from this trip other than to stir the pot and goad Russia into a fight. It appears to me that rasputin will start a diversionary war while the Democrats are busy with their convention.
I think cheney is the antichrist just like rasputin was in the Russian court.
The Russians should arrest the POS and send him to the Hague along with Cindy for crimes against peace. cheney is already guilty of genocide in the deaths of 2,000 Russian civilians in Georgia. What does he want to do try for a million and a half like in Iraq.
Where the hell is congress. Are they still on vacation? They should be pounding on their desks to get these warmongers bush, cheney and mccain charged by the World Court with war crimes, crimes against peace and crimes against humanity.
Damn I am tired of waiting.

Oh, Pam, you have got to be kidding. Is her right arm still in a sling? If it is, she can always wave with her left, like many other campaigners have done when their shaking hand gets hurt. Maybe the Georgians will be so happy to see her, instead of shaking hands, they give her bear hugs and crush her spine. What is she going to do if they also want to kiss her like most Europeans and Russians do? She better bring the giant sized hand sanitizer.
Is she going to shack up with Rasputin while she is there. What the hell right does she have to go to Georgia to talk politics?
John, if you're using Rasputin to identify Cheney that's okay, but if you're comparing the two, Rasputin was a saint next to Cheney. All Rasputin did was drink and screw every female he could get his hands on. Sure, he gave really bad advise which eventually led to his murder. But, Cheney on the other hand is directly responsible for how many murders?
Almost time to go home for the day. Will be watching the convention tonight!
Dear Laura,
Tonight in Denver, at about 7:15 PM Mountain Time, Caroline Kennedy will introduce to the Democratic National Convention a special video tribute to my husband Ted. Since you are one of Ted's most loyal supporters, I want to be sure that you know about this special evening so you can tune in to watch.
This should bring the house down tonite!!! Blog ya tomorrow.
Maybe Johnnie boy is sending her over hoping something happens so he can have all of her daddy's money to himself. It must be hard to share Cindy's daddy's money with Cindy.

United States Bill of Rights
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
United States Bill of Rights
In the United States, the Bill of Rights is the name by which the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution are known. They were introduced by James Madison to the First United States Congress in 1789
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Only the first ten, junknews, anyone after that is just considered an amendment.
2) The senate had an energy plan, Nancy Pelosi speaker of the democrat controlled house refused to allow an energy bill on the house floor to be voted on.......DUH...
We had the right ticket all along just the wrong order.

Sally was citing the work of Stalinist scientists last night - I wonder if there's any connection.
Rather than cite the work of the American Petroleum Institute and explain what a Hubbert curve is, she decided to take a stance against oil industry research and commonly agreed upon facts by big money out to make more big money.
I'm glad she's doing research. Maybe she IS open to changing her thinking on some things.
Good afternoon, all.
So the Republican Party is sending CINDY to Georgia because they don't trust John McCain, Condi, or Darth Vader to be able to handle Putin? That's too funny.
The GOP must place a lot of faith in all those NASCAR driving lessons she's been taking. What a statement about how pathetically incompetent and clueless the GOP brand has become.
Did you hear McCain's explanation this weekend about all those homes his wife "bought him"? He feels "blessed" to be living off his father-in-law's "good fortune."

More proof.
Old Oil Wells Renewed?
For those folk still making a living in the oil biz, there may be good news from a Dutch researcher. He says hydrophobic gels can help get the oil out of the apparently defunct wells.

For what it's worth, I think Pat Buchanan has a good foreign policy. He is an isolationist, traditionlist, hawk, like me. Of course, I'm in the minority on that one especially here in the ranks of the Democrats.
One thing we can agree on is that his domestic policy pretty much sucks as he was a proud member of the Nixon Administration.
O.K. just saw on CNN had a call in show and every single female hillary supporter either supports mccrap or won't vote. She had a large group of voters that aren't up to par on what the repugs have been up to. What is the thing that would scare this group most. Probably Johnnies statement about raising payroll taxes. Let them know ole Johnny is going to keep the war going and he's going into their paycheck to pay for it. Any idea's. Not from you Cactass and Sindy-*

Why in the world would Clinton supporters want to cause disunity amongst our party when we've fought such a hard battle to get here? Amazing, Simply Amazing. After what our country's been through these past eight years and the mean spirited and too often evilness displayed by the republicans. This is nothing but immature and selfish on some peoples part. I'm tired of Zell Miller Moments. Let's show some unity and give the Republicans this negativeness as they truly deserve.

Most of these women, is probably the crazy Texas "Connie" type remember her during the primary. Their will be some that will not come back to the Dems., but the large major will.
Why do we have our convention before the republicans? I hope we learned our lesson in 2004. We tried to play nice and get along with the Republicans. They attacked, mocked, lied, and were, well, generally Republicans. There ain't no getting along with these republicans. A little baseball-bat diplomacy is all they can understand. Let's let 'em have it.

We always get into trouble as a country when one party tries to govern without listening to the other.
I think a good many of us are hoping the GOP will step away from the extremism and single-mindedness of this last decade.
If they do, it will be good for the GOP and good for the country.
Only trouble is, I see no leadership or vision in that regard coming from John McCain.
He has signed on to the most rigid positions this administration has taken in order to get nominated.
If he can't even lead his own party, how can he lead the nation (let alone the world)?
Where is the leadership? Where is the vision, Senator McCain?

Bear in mind these women are over fifty and usually come from states within the Applachian mountain range and remember segregation. I feel sorry for them. They were conditioned at a young age not to trust African-American men. My mother is the same way. It took her over two months to get on board with Sen. Obama after Sen. Clinton conceded.

Climate Similar to the 1800s Within the Next 15 Years: First Stage of Global Cooling During 2008/09
By David Dilley, Meteorologist
In the peer reviewed book “Global Warming—Global Cooling, Natural Cause Found”, meteorologist and climate researcher David Dilley utilizes nearly a half million years of data linking long term gravitational cycles of the moon explain the recent global warming, rises in carbon dioxide levels, and for 2200 global warming cycles during the past half million years.
The gravitational cycles are called the Primary Forcing Mechanism for Climate (PFM), and act like a magnet by pulling the atmosphere’s high pressure systems northward or southward by as much as 3 or 4 degrees of latitude from their normal seasonal positions, and thus causing long-term shifts in the location of atmospheric high pressure systems.
Research by Mr. Dilley shows a near 100 percent correlation between the PFM gravitational cycles to the beginning and ending of global warming cycles. Global warming cycles began right on time with each PFM cycle during the past half million years, as did the current warming which began 100 years ago, and it will end right on time as the current gravitational cycle begins its cyclical decline.
Global temperatures have cooled during the past 12 months. During 2008 and 2009 the first stage of global cooling will cool the world’s temperatures to those observed during the years from the 1940s through the 1970s. By the year 2023 global climate will become similar to the colder temperatures experienced during the 1800s.
Mr. Dilley of Global Weather Oscillations has found seven different types of recurring gravitational cycles ranging from the very warm 460,000 year cycle down to a 230 year recurring global warming cycle. All of the gravitational cycles coincide nearly 100 percent with 2200 global warming events during the past half million years. This includes the earth’s current warming cycle which began around the year 1900, and the first stage of global cooling that will begin during 2008 and 2009.
The release of the book “Global Warming- Global Cooling, Natural Cause Found” culminates 19 years of research clearly linking gravitational cycles as the cause for fluctuations within the earth’s climate. The book is available as an electronic e-Book on this website. The author David Dilley is a meteorologist and climate researcher with Global Weather Oscillations Inc. (GWO), former meteorologist with the National Weather Service, and co-host of the radio program “the Politically Incorrect Weather Guys” airing weekly on RadioEarNetwork.com, an internet streaming radio program. Read more here. He also believes a moderate El Nino will occur this fall. See here.
Icecap Note: Ian Wilson has found a similar correlation between planetary/gravitational cycles and the major ocean oscillations, the PDO and NAO in this powerpoint.
Dr. Gary Sharp of Its All About time forwarded them to us with note “Two independently originated studies that provide useful insights about the future. Both studies agree well with what the Russian folks have been using to make projections about the future rise and fall of regional fisheries species - but they could not identify the causal forces - just the natural cycles. Read, learn, and enjoy the warmth - while it is still here...!”

Seems silly to me to argue about how big of a toilet the atmosphere is.
How about we just agree that before the next decade is out
* That people in our country will pay less for energy overall than anybody else on the planet.
* That we will save some oil for our children and grand children so they have something to make the myriad of petrochemical based products we use every day.
* That we will hold the patents and industries and jobs that achieve those gains
* That we take no more oil from the world market that we can't take from own reserves
* That we have the smallest carbon footprint per capita than any other country on earth
* and that we are the envy of the world.

Border fence design blasted as causing flooding
By ARTHUR H. ROTSTEIN, Associated Press Writer
TUCSON, Ariz. - Flooding caused by a border security fence in southwestern Arizona shows the structure is being built too quickly and without regard for the environment, critics say.
Debris and water backed up at the fence during a storm July 12, leading to flooding at the port of entry at Lukeville and Sonoyta, Mexico, and at the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument...

Hey Bob - nice to 'see' you, too. I have to confess - you are the absolute first person that I thought of when I heard the announcement. For me, Senator Biden stops short of walking on water, but only by a little bit! Senator Biden has 20 times the foreign policy creds as all of the re-THUGS put together! He probably understands the middle east issues better than any other American, period. Not to mention that I sent my copy of his auto-bio to his office and he signed to me! Now, I'll have a book signed by the VPOTUS! Lucky me!
Oh, such alleged behavior is condemnable if done by the RNC but if done by the DNC it's perfectly acceptable? isn't that something. A double standard.

This gerbil is tired of the GOP "economists" and their experiments with supply side "economics" and cheap labor economics.
We've taxed labor, and the income from wealth, and the income earned by corporations on behalf of their shareholders since the 16th amendment was first passed
and we built the largest middle class in the process, and the largest job creation engine in the world.
These people aren't conservative - they are radicals.
And I'm pressing the little red button that says I want out of this experiment.

I am happy to see Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri going after John McLame. This is not about playing nice. This is about pointing out the FAILURES of the republican party. George Bush has done more damage to this country in 8 years than any other president in our history.
I know this convention is not a Broadway show, but why do we not have anybody on talking about the issues, between the big guns of the night, I'm disappointed.

Bush presses Russia not to recognize Georgia regions
By Jeremy Pelofsky Mon Aug 25
CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - The White House on Monday pressed Russia not to recognize Georgia's rebel areas and said Vice President Dick Cheney, an staunch critic of Moscow, would visit the region to show U.S. support for former Soviet states.
President George W. Bush said Georgia's borders must be respected after the Russian parliament called on the Kremlin to recognize two separatist regions -- South Ossetia and Abkhazia -- as independent states.
news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080825/pl_nm/georgia_ossetia_usa_dc
Go Cheney.
Let's see how much more of Georgia you can lose to the Russians before leaving office. Stir the pot some more. Screw things up real well in Europe just like you did in the Middle East.
Why go half way when you can wreak everything?.
Your legacy is at stake. Make sure you alienate all our allies and give Russia just the openning they need to bring down the Iron Curtain all the way again.
Let's see if you can lose Poland and the one McCain calls Czechoslovakia. Maybe you can even threaten the security of of France or Austria while you're at it.
Go Cheney.
There is kind of a contrast between Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain.
Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama (born January 17, 1964) is an American lawyer and the wife of Illinois senator Barack Obama, the 2008 Democratic presumptive nominee for President. She was born and grew up on the South Side of Chicago and graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. After completing her formal education, she returned to Chicago and went to work for the law firm Sidley Austin, on the staff of the Mayor of Chicago Richard M. Daley, and for the University of Chicago and the University of Chicago Hospitals. She is the sister of Craig Robinson, men's basketball coach at Oregon State University.
Cindy McCain sells beer.
Michelle Obama is obviously a very smart woman. She is giving a great speech. Do you think Cindy will give a speech? If she does, do you think we might find out something about her 11 houses or her 2007 tax returns?
It will be fun to watch the republican convention.
Cindy McCain will try to sell us beer.
McCain will try to sell us tax cuts for the top 1% and try to convince us that Obama is a muslim.
Will we see Bush? Will we see Cheney?
Hey, where did our republican dupe Dan go?
Maybe he had to go wipe.
chicago,
Michelle is giving a great speech. The bimbo cindy will probably come out in a bikini.
cheney will bring his shotgun and wave it around badmouthing Russia and Iran.

johnyfaster,
Right on.
It's a Republican wet dream. No Democrat would ever abandon this country to John McCain and another four years of Bush. United with stand; divided we fall..and this nation falls right into the toilet for good.
Hillary Clinton is made of sterner stuff than Limbaugh and all of his fellow Heritage Foundation-trained propogandists would like the corporate media hacks to believe. She's no victim.
She's behind Barack and intends to get health care for all Americans. That's the Big Truth that the media whores can't get through their thick heads...because they are part of the GOP Big Lie.
O.K. i feel better now Michelle, is hitting a grand slam, right out of the park.
Plus she's a hot babe.
Well, dors.
Michelle hit a home run. Do you think you can use her on the Cubs...even though Barack is a White Sox fan?
Ted Kennedy also made a moving speech.
We are going to kick ass all the way to Washington.
Michelle Obama gave a great speech. And after seeing Barak Obama talking to his wife and two daughters, how can the republican dupes that are not idiots not understand that he is a regular American.

Sandy,
Exactly right. The media is creating a story that Hillary's supporters will not support Obama. Hillary will call on them to do the right thing. They will. If they are really Democrats, they will not be able to vote for McCain. But watch as the media finds republicans posing as Hillary supporters. Will the reporters verify that these people voted for democrats in the past or will they leave it wide open for liars (republicans)?
Don’s DNC Prayer
Please join me for the next few moments in our Benediction.
Father God,This week, as the world looks on, help the leaders in this room create a civil dialogue about our future.
We need you, God, as individuals and also as a nation. We need you to protect us from our enemies, but also from ourselves, because we are easily tempted toward apathy.
Give us a passion to advance opportunities for the least of these, for widows and orphans, for single moms and children whose fathers have left. Give us the eyes to see them, and the ears to hear them, and hands willing to serve them.
Help us serve people, not just causes. And stand up to specific injustices rather than vague notions.
Give those in this room who have power, along with those who will meet next week, the courage to work together to finally provide health care to those who don’t have any, and a living wage so families can thrive rather than struggle.
Help us figure out how to pay teachers what they deserve and give children an equal opportunity to get a college education.
Help us figure out the balance between economic opportunity and corporate gluttony.
We have tried to solve these problems ourselves but they are still there. We need your help.
Father, will you restore our moral standing in the world. A lot of people don’t like us but that’s because they don’t know the heart of the average American.
Will you give us favor and forgiveness, along with our allies around the world. Help us be an example of humility and strength once again.
Lastly, father, unify us. Even in our diversity help us see how much we have in common.
And unify us not just in our ideas and in our sentiments—but in our actions, as we look around and figure out something we can do to help create an America even greater than the one we have come to cherish.
God we know that you are good. Thank you for blessing us in so many ways as Americans.
I make these requests in the name of your son, Jesus, who gave his own life against the forces of injustice.

The republicans have got to be scrambling. They have worked so hard to confuse the American people. It is the only way they can win. And here comes Michelle Obama. And she is articulate and intelligent. A great mother with great family values. And everyone sees that Obama is not wearing a turbin. And he speaks English.
Now what Mr. McCain? Maybe you need to remind everyone AGAIN that you were a POW.
Posted by SandyH on August 25, 2008 at 10:58 PM Well, dors. Michelle hit a home run. Do you think you can use her on the Cubs...even though Barack is a White Sox fan?
If I owned the, Cubs - I'd borrow what ever it takes to out bid the Cardinals for her.
We don't get everything we want in politics, but Barack shows more of the thoughtfulness and introspectiveness required to be a great president than we have seen in awhile
so I suspect he will change his mind soon and recognize that
when the people of Chicago come in droves, year after year - for a century - regardless of whether their team is up in the standings or not
that the heart of America is at home plate in Wrigley Field.
We have to hope that McCain/Bush don't get too scared. If they think the only way the Republicans can win the election is to start a war, they will. Who will they attack? Most likely, Iran. They have already done this. There were no WMD's in Iraq. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. What was the rush to attack Iraq??? There was an election coming. They got away with it last time. They WILL do it again.
Who do millions of american women connect with more Michelle Obama, who got some college grants and loans or Cindy McShame who inherited 100,000,000. Gee what percent of the whole population has inherited 100 million .0000001 maybe. What a great commercial that would be.
i hate the convention stuff...i already know who i'll vote for and just need to get to work encouraging others to vote for them and the talking heads comments about the goings on make me want to puke but ted kennedy and michele obama turned my head around tonight...they were excellent!
I wonder which house John McCain watched the Democratic Convention from? I wonder if he knew it was his house? I wonder if he knew what the address was. I wonder if Cindy paid any taxes on that houes in 2007?
Posted by gregg on August 25, 2008 at 11:29 PM and the talking heads comments about the goings on make me want to puke
When they push an agenda or try overly hard to sound profound, yea - it's pukeable.
When they report - it works.
Chicago,
Conventions are about The Base and energizing them for the fight to come.
They are Not about what the opposition Party thinks. I find it so silly that the news media have been giving the Republicans this big brush to paint what they want OUR convention to be about.
Our Base, and particularly those on the floor of the convention, were moved by Kennedy and Michelle. That's what's important.
The American people? Most of them were watching Howie not give some woman $1 million again. If they did catch Michelle's speech, they probably are wondering why she isn't hosting The Today Show.
Uncle Teddy and the kids made it hard for any Democrat not to want to go out and clobber the Republicans. Mission accomplished. This convention is going to be a killer.
this is what i mean about the talking heads...here is what carville had to say about tonight:
(CNN) — Have the Democrats wasted the first night of the convention?
Yes, says Democratic Strategist and CNN contributor James Carville.
Speaking on CNN, Carville said the party was too soft in its attacks on John McCain Monday night — the same mistake, Carville says, Democrats made at the 2004 convention...
"The way they planned it tonight was supposed to be sort of the personal — Michelle Obama will talk about Barack Obama personally, Ted Kennedy was a very personal, emotional speech," Carville said. "But I guarantee on the first night of the Republican Convention, you're going to hear talk about Barack Obama, commander-in-chief, tax cuts, et cetera, et cetera."
now carville hasn't won anything in a long long time and is of course married to that witch who is assisting in the swift boat attempt on obama...so it isn't that carville doesn't understand the importance of presentations like tonight's and how many millions of americans are watching and feeling good about the democrats...its that this fucking cretin wants to make more money and could give two shits about whether the republicans or democrats win and the more choas and shit hitting the fan the more money he makes....he should sit on his bat like wife's lap and move his jaw up and down like a puppet when she lies and libels and slanders....he wants blood and guts so he can turn a buck....screw him.
Listening to the callers on CSPAN, Michelle Obama hit a home run tonight. By-and-large, most of the people that were on the fence are now lining up behind Obama. The republicans count on confusing people with dis-information as to who Michelle and Barack are and what they represent. When people learn the truth, they vote for the Democrats.
that the heart of America is at home plate in Wrigley Field.
Posted by dorsano on August 25, 2008 at 11:24 PM
I believe Hillary may make that point tomorrow.
Go, Michelle Obama! Go Ted Kennedy! Go Nancy Pelosi! Go Jim Leach! Go Democrats! What an exciting night at the Convention. I watched every moment of it. I see a new beginning around the corner. It's in the air.
Posted by gregg on August 25, 2008 at 11:37 PM this is what i mean about the talking heads...here is what carville had to say about tonight:
No one likes, Carville (or his wife) - if they were watching at the time, they went to feed the cat.
i don't find much reporting dors. mostly i find morons trying to think of something to say to get to the next pay check. a pox on them.
Chicago, did you notice how many in the crowd were teary as Michelle spoke? I was moved to tears myself. She's a phenomenal speaker and the storyline is compelling.
Well,
I am off to sleep.
Danny Cactus, what happened to you boy? You made a few stupid comments; I pointed them out to everyone; and you disappeared. I don't blame you. If I had made some of the comments you made, I would be embarrassed too. Then again, if I was STILL a republican, I would also be embarrassed.
G'night all.
Good night, all - Put a stake through the heart of Lee Atwater and his daughter Karl Rove - and insist on public discourse worthy of our country.
OBAMA/BIDEN 08* Good night all! Think of our Troops & God Bless to all! http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=I8RbXV6gDU0
maybe the heart of america is at the tomb of the unknown soldier...some kid who went off to nightmarish war, who did the best he could, who died alone and far from home, who never got to enjoy his life and grow old watching the seasons change and whose family and friends never found out for sure what became of him....and to whom we are in indebted.
Conventions are about The Base and energizing them for the fight to come.
Posted by SandyH on August 25, 2008 at 11:37 PM
I think there are plenty of other Americans watching the convention. There are also reporters reporting on the convention. So the impacts are much broader than just to the base. Considering the republican smear machine and the fact that it counts on an un-informed electorate, this convention is extemely important for the Democrats. It will be a counter to McLame's disinfomation.
he wants blood and guts so he can turn a buck....screw him.

Gregg,
You are right as usual. Carville is a POS.

And how sad a statement that Cheney got 5 deferments and George Bush avoided service due to his Daddy's influence and these two "men" consider themselves patriots.
Okay, now I am really off to bed.
Nice chatting with y'all tonight.
so i guess with mcsame as the candidate and ghouliani as a keynose speaker the other team is having an "adulterers convention"?
Posted by gregg on August 25, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Carville might as well have been sitting with Arnold out in California tonight.
I was really impressed by Patrick Kennedy tonight. Dick Gregory was interviewing him after Michelle talked and he came across like gangbusters. He's young, articulate, good looking....and a Kennedy.
We seem to have a wealth of these young, gifted Democrats. Looking around the floor tonight there were dozens of young men and women (of all races and creeds) who could easily follow Obama into the White House in the future. Even Harold Ford came across great tonight.
The Republicans are a party of old men and incompetent young twits.
Michelle introduced the subject for tomorrow beautifully for Hillary...Women concerned about health care and how it is affecting our families.
Uncle Teddy touched on it. Then Michellee picked up the theme by mentioning her father coping with MS while working. Hillary is going to take the ball and run with it tomorrow. I can't wait to see her weave her magic.
Women voters will decide this election. Republicans always ignore the things women worry about. They don't think it matters.

gregg,
That's the Republican version of the American Dream...dying alone in a foreign land or being tortured in a POW camp.
The Democratic version has the kid coming home, finding a good-paying job, growing old surrounded by their family with their mortgage paid off, and a little money in the bank to buy the grandkids a Happy Meal on occasion.

Great first night, even better first lady.
let us lift up our voices, a real leader has come.
a new heaven and a new earth.
amen, and amen.
peaceful rest, everyone.
But watch as the media finds republicans posing as Hillary supporters. Will the reporters verify that these people voted for democrats in the past or will they leave it wide open for liars (republicans)?
Posted by Chicago on August 25, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Isn't it funny how they all look like Karl Rove or Tom DeLay? And how the media pollsters keep calling the same Republicans who crossed over to vote in our primaries and now call them Democrats?
Posted by Esmeralda on August 26, 2008 at 12:27 AM
Amen and good night, all.
Michelle is a good looking woman but she has a huge ass like Hillary, A big bubble ass. I have an idea, Hillary and Michelle will be terrific friends after the convention so they could go 50 - 50 on a buttmaster and they could show unity by exercising together.
Is that a terrific idea or what?
Geez Esmerelda, you are way to pious for the rest of us. But do you really think it is proper to pray for bastards as you noted that you have done?
I remember when the Democrat Party used to nominate actual candidates with actual qualifications to be President you really wouldn't worry too much who won cause you knew that regardless of the outcome the country would be secure.
I am thinking of Adlai Stevenson, Kennedy, Humphrey et al. But then the leftists took the Democrat party over and we have had total ass hats like Dukakis, Mondale, Gore and Kerry - all losers, thank God.
The current moon bat "Buckwheat" will go down the same trail. He has no chance of winning, none at all. He will lose 60% - 40%.
So shall it be written - so shall it be done.
I use the term "Buckwheat' because he was the dumbest rascal, the fact that he/she was also a Negro is purely coincidental.
Obama Reaches Out to the Center
After reviewing the 2007 Senate vote ratings at the nonpartisan National Journal, I'm starting to make sense of Joe Biden as Obama's VP pick. The Obamessiah has promised to unite the country, despite being the most extreme leftist in the entire Senate. That's where Biden comes in:
liberal-senate-ranking.gif
Obama could have gone with the second most extreme leftist, Sheldon Whitehouse. But in the spirit of bipartisan cooperation, he went for the third most extreme leftist.
If he really wanted to build bridges, he could have picked Socialist Bernie Sanders at #4. But no doubt Obama was advised not to go overboard and risk alienating his base.
Moonbat Morality Hits Little League
Imagine if liberal principals were applied to sports, so that the best team is shamed and punished for oppressing the others, and the team that manages to lose the most games is awarded the championship to encourage self-esteem. In Little League, it's already happening:
Nine-year-old Jericho Scott is a good baseball player — too good, it turns out.
The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.
Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho's team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho's coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned.
But Vidro says he didn't quit and the team refuses to disband. Players and parents held a protest at the league's field on Saturday urging the league to let Jericho pitch.
"He's never hurt any one," Vidro said. "He's on target all the time. How can you punish a kid for being too good?"
The answer: the same way you can rob people of their wealth for creating too much of it.
By the same logic, they might send kids home from school for being too smart, or fire people for working too hard. We wouldn't want others to feel stupid or lazy by comparison.
To the moonbat mindset, excellence is the only real sin.
Ouch! Texas GOP Releases "George Obama" Attack Ad
Barack Obama's Kenyan brother George Hussein Onyango Obama lives in a Kenyan slum hut. Barack Obama wants to spend your money to help America but is unwilling to spend his own money to lift his brother from the slums of Nairobi.
Here is the ad! It's terrific!
he Black Republicans released this statement on Barack Obama:
Forty-five years ago, on August 28, 1963, The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was a Republican and embraced the traditional values that made this country great delivered his inspirational civil rights "I Have a Dream" speech.
Today, Senator Barack Obama, with the most liberal voting record in the US Senate, is delivering his political acceptance speech, in an apparent attempt to assume for himself the mantle of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Dr. King did not embrace the type of secularist agenda promoted by Obama and the Democratic Party of today, which includes fostering dependency on welfare that breaks up families, supporting same-sex marriage and partial-birth abortion, and banning God from the public square.
Obama is no MLK!
Senator Joe Biden in Springfield, Illinois:
This election year the choice is clear. One man stands ready to deliver change we desperately need. A man I'm proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next president of the United States-- "Barack America!"

Morning JohnBoy and dusty,
I heard on the news this morning that president anus is sending cheney to georgia to talk with their presidunce. He is also going to the Ukraine and azerbajan (sp?) to check on his oil wells. This whole attack on Russia is about oil. Then the ahole bush tells Russia that they better not recognize these two breakaway republics. They belong to georgia.
Screw bush. He recognized kosovo a breakaway republic of yugoslavia (?) and told Russia to go to hell.
What is with this loser. He is not the dictator of the planet although he is trying.
Russia owns us just like China and if they cash in all the debt we have sold them then we will be screwed blue and tatooed.
Oh, ahole is at his ranch in Texas fouling the air. Why is he vacationing during wartime? He has been on vacation since August 1.
Then we have mcanus whining about Obama again. He is airing an ad here in New Mexico on our fascist station. The ad is bitching about how Obama is going propose 853 billion in new programs when he is president. It goes on to say that it will represent a 30% increase in the size of government and raise all taxes including utility taxes. It also goes on to say that it will increase the national debt our grandkids will have to pay. Then they threw in the tax and spend bullcrap.
bush is the one who increased the size of the government more than any president in history. bush has spent more than any president in history. bush is the one who is in debt to Russia and China to the tune of several trillion Dollars. bush is the one who is going to bankrupt our grandchildren who will have no healthcare or jobs with which to pay for it.
bush and mcahole are the liars here. They are the reduce taxes and spend madly republics.
I am sick to death of the damn lies. Hopefully the bushtards will bow out and commit suicide.
Why is cheney fanning the flames of war in georgia. he is arming all the former Soviet republics in the face of all good sense. What is wrong with these war mongers. We are interfering in a part of the world where we have no business being involved.
Europe may have in interest in these former Soviet republics and we should mind our own damn business and shut the hell up.
We also have no business in the middle east. As near as I can tell, Israel has been treating the Palestinians like n****rs and have been shitting on them for 60 years. I am sick of bailing these people out.
Our religious evangelical freaks are the war mongers. They go on and on about protecting Israel because the Bible says so. I think it is a bunch of crap. Let them fight for themselves and sink or swim. The world would be a much better place.
Meanwhile Russia is selling new missiles to Iran and we are being used by Israel to go up against Russia and start a world war which we would lose considering the present state of our military.
We should just pack up our 700 military bases, pull in our 13 battle groups, ground our bomber groups and mind our own f**king business. We would be so much happier and better off physically.
King the fascist congressman from New York just endorsed the "democrat" liverlips to be mcgeezers running mate.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Liverlips is a loser like mcgeezer. They would lose for sure. I am praying that God will be good and help us stomp these people in the coming election.
bush is the one who is directly responsible for the loss of 10,000,000 factory jobs in the last eight years.
bush is the one who allowed thousands of manufacturing companies to move overseas.
bush is the one who is trying his best to bring on the "rapture" and get us all killed.
bush is an ASSHOLE WAR MONGER.
raygun used to brag about how many jobs he created. Yeh right, they were all McDonald's jobs. raygun didn't know shit from Shinola about economics just like mcgeezer.
WAKE UP AMERICA BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. DON'T LET THESE DAMN REPUBLICANS TAKE AWAY OUR COUNTRY AND GIVE IT TO THE LIKES OF EXXON OR ANY OTHER CORPORATION.
IF IT'S PUBLIC UNREST THEY WANT THEN WE WILL MARCH ON WASHINGTON LIKE THE VETERANS HAD TO DO IN 1920 TO FACE OFF AGAINST THE REPUBLICAN CONGRESS AND GET THEIR JUST REWARD FOR FIGHTING IN WORLD WAR I.

Ted Kennedy last night:
"Nothing, nothing is going to keep me away from this special gathering tonight...
I have come here tonight to stand with you to change America, to restore its future, to rise to our best ideals and to elect Barack Obama president of the United States...Together we have known success and seen setbacks ... but we have never lost our belief that we are all called to a better country and a newer world. I pledge to you that I will be there next January on the floor of the Senate...
And this November, the torch will be passed again to a new generation of Americans. So with Barack Obama and for you, our country will be committed to his cause. The work begins anew, the hope rises again, the dream lives on..."
the guy is amazing!
Awilda Marquez is a colorado Delegate on C-Spann and doesn't know who she is voting for because barack hasn't kissed her ass yet. WTF How did this women get to be a superdelegate. "He's the one who has to make the ask" is what she keeps saying and she says she has serious reservations about barack. If this is how our supers are, how do we expect the general public to get it. What a shame she is the the Democratic Party.
mcbush international intervention continues to go great!!
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest blew himself up in a crowd of Iraqi police recruits on Tuesday, killing 28 people and wounding 45, police said.
but the media is playing along with the game called "iraq is so yesterday"
it really is time for awilda and her ilk to contemplate how her constituents or family and friends will do with a mcbush presiduncey...and the answer is "horribly"...
Morning Dems.......
Great Convention start last night.
Ted Kennedy was especially moving and inspiring.
Johne, I love your passion. I hope you are using it to help local and state Democrats.
Everyone, PLEASE choose a Senator, whether it be your state or a neighboring state, and jump on their campaign. Contact them, ask how you can help. Phone bank, door to door, Register voters, writing letters to editors is an important part of each campaign.
If we get our Senate majority of 60 seats, we can write our own adjenda !
Time is flying. Let's get active, folks!
(ps, dusty, don't bother with Stevie/Sally in the night. He can only come in when his parole officer is sleeping. Ignore him, he is not worth the sweat off your brow.)

Candidate who miscounted his homes reflects on 5 1/2 years in captivity"
this is wearing thin..like his hair. i remember when McGovern ran in 72 and he was accused of being a weak commie. he never mentioned his war record but here it is:
"McGovern, a South Dakota preacher's son, was a 19-year-old college sophomore when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He immediately volunteered for service and less than three years later was piloting one of the big, unwieldy B-24 Liberator bombers. Completing 35 missions over Europe, McGovern went on to earn a Distinguished Flying Cross for his service."
35 missions over europe...find some old WW2 air force vet and ask him what 35 missions over europe in ww2 was like....mcbush should hang his head for cheaping his own heroics...
Nice start to a very nice convention. Keep it up and we will lose. The republicans, as everyone knows, are coming at us with both fists in the air. They will throw everything at us.
My question is - what the hell is the reason why we can't fight back?
A whole evening looking good - way to go Dean - but it was very "nice".
Good morning, all.
Kathy,
Nice to see that the DNC is sticking to Our agenda at this convention instead of being diverted by all the stupid media ploys being engineered on the Republican side to get us off on the wrong tangent.
I wonder what the media whores will say when the Rumble in Denver never materializes after they have been billing it as the only story at the convention for the past two weeks now? The GOP can orchestrate pretend chaos but nobody is buying it any longer.
It's about votes not about polls. It's about change not about continuing the same incompetence and failed policies. It's about the poor state of the middle class now and the fate of our children's future not about what happened to McCain 40 years ago.
The McCain camp is on the defensive, because he's completely out of touch with reality. At least he has an excuse being so befuddled and all, but the Republican Party doesn't have any excuse.
They're all smoke and mirrors. People are sick of the cheap special effects. Even their own supporters are wondering why the GOP can't deal with problems without making new ones or screwing up the works even more.
It's their despicable Record versus our targeted Agenda to save the nation from what McBush continues to advocate...failure.
Gotta run. later.
One for the road:
So now the Republicans are asking us to look for "the silver lining"...and feel sorry for what happened to John McCain 40 years ago.
S&P: Home prices tumble by record amount
NEW YORK - A widely watched housing index released Tuesday showed home prices dropping by the sharpest rate ever in the second quarter.
The Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller U.S. National Home Price Index tumbled a record 15.4 percent during the quarter from the same period a year ago.
The monthly indices also clocked in record declines. The 20-city index fell by 15.9 percent in June compared with a year ago, the largest drop since its inception in 2000. The 10-city index plunged 17 percent, its biggest decline in its 21-year history.
No city in the Case-Shiller 20-city index saw year-over-year price gains in June, the third straight month that's happened.
However, the rate of single-family home price declines slowed from May to June, a possible silver lining, the index creators said.
"While there is no national turnaround in residential real estate prices, it is possible that we are seeing some regions struggling to come back, which has resulted in some moderation in price declines at the national level" said David M. Blitzer, chairman of the index committee at S&P

But it possible....that McCain will be released from the self-appointed Hell he's lived in with Cindy for the past 30 years?
We wouldn't want him to have to continue dealing with so many homes and not enough time to enjoy living in them forever.
The sheer agony from having to decide where to lie his head each night is making it difficult for him to tell the difference between Sunni and Shiite. He'd think he was still in "Georgia" if Lieberman and Toto weren't there to remind him he's still a prisoner of war.
Perhaps he should just check himself into a rest home?

this reminds me of a car I parked behind in the Pet Store parking lot last week, gregg.
The guy had one of those old cadillacs, long, gas guzzler.
His vanity license plate was "Firemn"
In his back window, were various baseball caps, with "Vietnam Vet", and other military designations on them.
What was ludicrous, was on his bumper, he had a bumper sticker showing Bill and Hillary on it, with the words "dual airbags" !
One of those strutting veterans, who undoubtedly wore their uniform every time they were out on leave. One who sits at the VFW and looks for praise as he brags and exagerates on his heroics (even though he peeled potatoes back here in the states somewhere). One who can never have enough people thank him for his service (even though he got drafted and tried very hard to get out of it). But he is Republican through and through.
Let's face it, if McCain did not have his POW history, he never would have even been considered for this position. I heard Bill Maher last night on Larry King do a little skit on how it got down to McCain, and it was hilarious and exact ! There are still Republicans out there bitching and moaning over him.

NKorea suspends nuclear reactor disablement
By JAE-SOON CHANG, Associated Press Writer
SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea said Tuesday it has suspended work to disable its nuclear reactor in anger over Washington's failure to remove it from the U.S. list of terror sponsors. The North said it will soon consider a step to restore the plutonium-producing facility.
The announcement poses the biggest hurdle yet to the communist nation's denuclearization process under a landmark deal last year.
"The U.S. postponed the process of delisting the (North) as a 'state sponsor of terrorism,'" the Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency. "Now that the U.S. breached the agreed points, the (North) is compelled to take" countermeasures, it said...

Is this the result of the usual Bush pivatization , no-bid contract incompetence or Cheney coming out of the Bunker?
Or is it the result of the Russians (emboldened by the McBush arrogance and incompetence) and China (fresh from their Olympic triumph) both ready to re-start the Cold War and clobber what they perceive as a shockingly weakened America?
There is no way this should have happened. This is a major screw up and an indication of just how little real clout the world's last great super power has any longer.
The Axis of Evil is telling the GOP to go to hell...and most Americans feel that's where the Republicans have already taken us.
Shame on the GOP.
Sandy and Cate: I'm not alone in my thoughts about last nights opening convention. I see shades of 2004 all over again. I would hope we had learned a lesson from that disaster of a convention. If we don't step it up and take it to the republicans - they will bring it to us. We will use the next 2 months defending our positions and never will we get our message out. Sorry - but that's just the way it is.
Speaking on CNN, Carville said the party was too soft in its attacks on John McCain Monday night — the same mistake, Carville says, Democrats made at the 2004 convention.
"You haven't heard about Iraq or John McCain or George W. Bush — I haven't heard any of this. We are a country that is in a borderline recession, we are an 80 percent wrong-track country. Health care, energy — I haven't heard anything about gas prices," Carville also says. "Maybe we are going to look better Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. But right now, we're playing hide the message."
Carville also said the party needs to do a better job of communicating its message to the American people.
“If this party has a message it's done a hell of a job hiding it tonight, I promise you that," he said.
Isn't it time for a new thread? Everyone must be at the Convention. This one is getting terribly long.
The news just gets worse...
US diplomat in Pakistan escapes gun attack
By RIAZ KHAN, Associated Press Writer
PESHAWAR, Pakistan - Gunmen opened fire on the top U.S. diplomat in northwestern Pakistan early Tuesday as she left for work in her armored vehicle, police and embassy officials said. No one was killed in the attack.
Lynne Tracy, principal officer for the consulate in the bustling city of Peshawar, was 100 yards from her house when two men with AK-47s jumped out of their dark blue Land Cruiser and sprayed her car with dozens of rounds of ammunition...
Armored cars and private jets are the only way to get around these days for Americans?
Bin Lauden is obviously free to attack at will in Pakistan and working hard to get a hold of the nuclear weapons that Spunky is supposed to be keeping an eye on.
Last I heard W was on vacation (as usual) and Cheney was meeting up with Cindy in Georgia to practice their NASCAR driving skills around Russian blockades.
McCain is busy trying to inventory how many houses Cindy bought on her American Express card last month and updating his "I was the only POW during the Vietnam War" documentary film for the RNC convention next week.
Is there anyone in the Republican Party aware that we are in grave danger? Is it back to the future with McBush? Nobody is keeping their eye on the ball over there on the GOP side.
What the hell are they doing? Getting ready to go out with a bang or a mushroom cloud?

You parked your "boat" in a tow away zone again. Move it before the NSA confiscates it to use as a roving anthrax detection lab.
JohnE, have you watched McCain lately? He looks like he is totally "out of gas" on the stump. I don't think he will be able to keep up with Obama/Biden: he will die running around in circles, talking to himself!
I thing the incumbents are trying to win on the National Security issue. The more problems they can create, the more viable McCain looks as "THE ONE". He is chaffing at the bit to re-fight the Vietnam war and his former captors are eager to see him win the U.S. Presidency. Maybe they plan to use the anti-U.S. propaganda tapes he made while in their custody to control his Presidency. Just a thought.

That was gibberish. What are you trying to say?
This crap of sending Chenney, and Rice, and Cindy to Georgia, is nothing more then to scare the dupes, the more tension that these insane neo con idiots, can muster up about security. The better they can paint McCain as the one to keep the dupes safe. These Neo Con bastards will do anything to stay in power, even if it starts a World War.
It would be funny if it was not so sad. That these dupes will fall for it hook line and sinker.
We got to start painting McCain of how bad he would be for the security of the world. That he is a first class, Hot Head ,and a Ill Tempered, senile old man, that beats women, and likes to keep them down and out.
I hope that Biden takes the mask off this cock sucker.
Oil prices spike as Hurricane Gustav nears Gulf
By PABLO GORONDI, Associated Press Writer
Oil prices swung rapidly higher Tuesday as Hurricane Gustav threatened major oil operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Traders worried that the hurricane could head into the Gulf, where there are many oil drilling platforms.
The storm was centered about 130 miles south-southeast of Port-au-Prince and was moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 kph)...
Analysts and traders also feared that mounting tensions with the West over the breakaway Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia may increase the risk of an interruption of oil and natural gas flows to Europe, greatly dependent on Russian energy supplies...
news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080826/ap_on_bi_ge/oil_prices
By all means, let's tie our entire economic future to off shore drilling...
and re-starting the Cold War so Halliburton's profits won't be interrupted when the Iraqi government throws us out?
What happens when the Russians take back control of all those pipelines in Eastern Europe and cash rich China locks up all the oil leases in the Middle East? A little diplomacy and less outsourcing of our assets to our adversaries may stopped this in the bud?
So the Republicans are going to have us depending on the Christian Right's pray circles to keep hurricanes away from those off shore rigs?
How about getting off the oil standard and developing alternative energy instead?

I know guys like that, and they do tend to be Republicans. BUT a lot of times they aren't "strutting" to be just strutting. Most often they are Viet vets, and they are still looking for the recognition that was denied them when they came back from the jungles of 'Nam.
I don't diss them.
They became Republicans because they were attacked and disrespected by the "liberal" draft-dodgers of the '60s and '70s for doing what they thought they were supposed to do.
They went into a green slimy hell, just like the kids now are going into a dry dusty one.
The Democratic Party during that era embraced the draft dodgers, and instead of reaching out to these guys, to its great shame, went along with the draft dodgers in disrespecting the veterans instead of blaming the Republican AND Democratic administrations that sent them over there.
I must admit, that it wasn't just the civilians, the mainstream veterans' organizations disrespected their service and even wen as far as to bar Viet vets for a time. Though that injustice has been remedied now, the Viet era vets are still sadly underrepresented.
A lot of times, I can make veterans see the light by talking about veterans, and the veterans' bills that McCain voted against, that Bush has vetoed. Things they didn't find out about because they watch Faux news, and listen to hate radio. I tell them to go check it out for themselves. I say prove me wrong.
Then I talk to them about the way these young guys are being treated, the ones who are coming back from the Sand Box. I bring up the Fort Carson, and Walter Reed scandals, and the backlogs at VA, and tell them about the kids getting Less Than Honorables for having PTSD and/or brain trauma.
These "strutting" vets are decent guys, but they are walking wounded, scarred by the mistreatment they received. I never went to 'Nam, very few WACS were sent over there. But I received the backlash the same as the guys did. I learned to be careful who I mentioned my military service to, even 10 years later, when I went into the Army Reserve. It has only been since Desert Storm, that we could wear our uniforms in public and have people thank us for our service.
We can win more people with understanding, than disrespect. These guys have been dissed enough.

Do you need Joe Lieberman to navigate the waters for you, too? Sorry, he's otherwise employed as a home health care aide for a some guy whose wife left him for Cheney...and is vacationing in Georgia.
What is the purpose of Cindy McCain's trip to Georgia? Is she going as a government representative. If so, on whose authority? If not, who is paying for her trip? Maybe she is going to enter the Miss Yak Chip contest.

We have have a winning agenda and don't have to depend on negative attacks...all of the time. The one thing we cannot do is make any stupid mistakes just because Mr. Mary Maitlan wants us to throw our advantage to the winds.
We'll hit them square between the eyes when and where it gives us the most advantage. Besides, most Americans were not watching last night.
Last night was for our Base and pre-conditioning the faithful for what's to come...Hillary's return as our main attack dog. She's rested and in top form.
Bill and Al's return (probably together on Wednesday) will just be icing on the the "Remember Peace and Prosperity" cake.
Patience. We're going to beat them over the head and go for the jugular soon enough. Let the old fart relive the only time in his life when he did anything worthwhile...when any Republican did any thing they can be proud of.
What is the purpose of Cindy McCain's trip to Georgia?
Posted by francespryor on August 26, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Frances, the only possible reason that Cindy is going over there, is to come back and tell everyone how bad, and how high the tensions over there is.
Then she will try to shore up, McNuts National Security B/S. Painting him as the one to keep America safe, and all of that crap.
Cindy, and 'Dick' (and he is Cheney) going to Georgia, is nothing but a Political stunt.
This is such a long thread. Does anyone want to jump to the Call to Order thread?
See? The GOP is already back to full-scale Hillary bashing again...and blaming all the Republican failures on Bill.
Clinton faces new GOP attacks ahead of her speech
By SCOTT LINDLAW, Associated Press Writer
DENVER - Republicans on Tuesday invoked Hillary Rodham Clinton's past criticism that Barack Obama wasn't ready to lead as Democrats faced two days at their national convention to be dominated by the old Clinton regime...
You'd think the Clinton supporters would be pissed by the continued attacks that the GOP is lobbing at our past First Lady and President. I'm certainly sick of the GOP discounting the wonderful job they both did.
I'm ready to applaud hard and loud when they make their appearances this week. Let America see what "success" used to look like.
I suggest we draw a circle around them both and make a stand...instead of worrying that we aren't using enough negative ammunition to make a fatal blow on the Republicans when the time comes. There is more than enough to take back Congress as well as the White House.
We don't have to fire till we see the whites of their eyes. And McCain is so white you can see him all the way from the Mars.
President ahole has just made another colossal blunder. CNN reports that North Korea has told bush to go f himself because he hasn't kept his word and taken them off his list of evil countries. Furthermore, they are not going to disassemble their nuclear facilities.
bush's response was "you didn't verify that you disassembled your "nukular" facilities.
f you bush. What a colossal ahole. What would be wrong with taking them off the list and then having them prove they abided by their promise.
Governor Richardson saved bush's ass a couple of years ago and got the North Koreans to talk with the State Department.
bush is bound and determined to start a war with North Korea, Russia, Venezuela, etal, and he will probably succeed before January 20.
rice is going to Lybia today to destroy our
relationship with them.
bush, cheney and rice must be removed from office now and sent to the Hague. I am tired of their utter bullshit. Damn I am pissed.
Then we have that ahole mcgeezer flapping his gums saying me too to every thing bush utters.
mcgeezer has to lose this election by a landslide or it will be time to leave the country and never come back.

Butte,
I don't know any Democrat who every disrespected a veteran. Not one. It's a Republican urban legend and I'm surprised that you have bought into it.
I used to date those guys who were coming back for Nam. Believe me, none of them were looking for sympathy. They were so disgusted by what they had been tricked into thinking was "glorious" that no one could make them feel any worse if they tried. And we didn't try.
It's mainly the WW II guys who want to keep the Korean and Vietnam Wars going. Many in that generation and all Republican politicans don't dare face the truth about Iraq or any other military mistakes.
The only way to honor the sacrifices of those who have served in the military is to give them all the veterans benefits that they were told they were going to get. Democrats respect this promise. Republicans try every way they can to get out of it.
McCain's recent votes on the Webb bill and others are a prime example of this hypocricy.
Just because someone is a veteran doesn't mean they can go around lying and slandering others as a defense for their own political beliefs. I think it was Jefferson who once said that only the most devious traitors use patriotism as a defense for their own dirty tricks and failures.
I guess we will just have to disagree.
These guys have been dissed enough.
Posted by Butte on August 26, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Hi Butte,
I agree with you. That is what I was trying to say earlier, that Pam’s comments were very insulting and now I will say they are totally out of line. Any man or woman who served their country, especially in time of war and even more so served in battle deserves respect for that service. Vietnam veterans had it very rough and you comment about them coming home to disrespect and attacks by the liberals of that era is right on the money.
If they seem to be “strutting” their status as veterans it is because they are proud of their service and duty to our country. To try and insult them for wearing their uniforms while home on leave or for sitting at a VFW talking about their experiences is ridiculous. To insult them further for not avoiding their draft notice heaps says much about where those comments are based.
We must not ever take the sacrifices of our men and women as a reason to insult them. All politics aside.
Meanwhile adolf bush is at the wolf's lair (crawford, texas) planning world conquest.
Ok Sandy- if you say so but being nice sure got us a winning election last time. If we don't to after them we'll lose again. Why do you think McCain is staying even with us? All he has done is attack and it's working. I guess it comes down just how bad do the Dems want to win. Nice doesn't get you elected these days. It's just how it is. Last night had hints of 2004 all over again. They have 3 more nights to show the country that we're tough! If they don't start attacking, we might as well pack it up.
Here one for you Kathy
Amtrak mechanic touts Obama as friend to workers
(The following story by Sylvia A. Smith appeared on the Fort Wayne (Ind.) Journal Gazette website on August 26.)
WASHINGTON, D.C. — “Barack’s the real deal,” Hoosier Mike Fisher told the 6,000 delegates and thousands of others at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night.
Fisher, an Amtrak mechanic and union member – a demographic more likely to vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton during the primaries than Barack Obama – was given three minutes to speak to the convention with a message that Obama understands the kitchen-table economic concerns of working-class Americans.
“I’m very nervous,” he said a few hours before he donned his best black suit and white shirt to face the cameras and the sea of convention-goers.
Fisher isn’t a political activist, so he was a little surprised to receive a call from the Obama campaign Sunday night, offering him a trip to Denver and a chance to speak during the opening night of the convention.
He said his connections to Obama started in April when the Obama campaign asked the Beech Grove Democratic Party to find a blue-collar family for a preprimary visit.
“When I saw the motorcade driving up our street, I was a nervous wreck. But as soon as Barack Obama came up on our front porch and shook my hand, he put me at ease,” Fisher told the convention delegates. “We went inside, and Barack put his elbows up on the kitchen table and listened.
“Barack and Michelle listened, and they understood. It was like talking with family,” Fisher said. “It became clear that they are regular people. Barack and Michelle grew up dealing with the same challenges most of us face. … It’s pretty clear he can relate to working people and those who are struggling.”
In an interview, Fisher said he gave much the same speech in April at a rally after meeting Obama.
Fisher said his spot on the podium – between Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., and the president of the Chicago chapter of the Service Employees Union – threw him into a frenzy of media attention.
He and his wife, Cheryl, were interviewed by Katie Couric for the CBS Evening News, a Chicago Tribune reporter and multiple Hoosier news outlets.

JohnBoy,
I can't wait for the debates. Obama will make mcgeezer look like an idiot. Obama must say something on purpose to make him go off like a skyrocket in front of the entire world.
If he loses it in front of the cameras then it will be all over.
Obama should ask him, if he enjoyed killing thousands of innocent women and children, in his 40 some bombing sorties, into populated ares of Nam.
He would go off like a rocket!
Fear motivates people, period. The fight or flight mechanism is stronger apparently than the hope mechanism. So we have to play the game to win. Hopefully, the speakers the next 3 nights will scare the pants off of anyone considering voting republican. Heck, we don't even have to make stuff up. If you give republicans 4 more years gas will be 10 dollars a gallon. If you give republicans 4 more years they will draft your child to fight their oil wars. If you vote republican, they will raise your paycheck taxes, if your lucky to still have a paycheck. If you give republicans 4 more years they will profit off of the Iraq Invasion for the next 100 years. If you give republicans 4 more years the air you breathe will be thicker than it is now. If .... We need to If them to dealth.
for years we had been treated like second class citizens by the republican's. They have called us everyhing from bleeding hearts to baby killers. They have taken the image of a man who never served to line his own pockets but to help the poorest who needed it the most. They have mocked his name for their own power. They have driven this country backwards in their quest for power never understanding what the common person is feeling, is going through.
And now we had to play nice? After never blasting the person who called Hillary a bitch, or apologzing for questions asked our candidates love for his country and now we're suppose to be nice?
I say piss on that and piss on them.

My two brothers and my husband are Vets. One brother was sent 2 times to Vietnam for 13 months each time. He was never the same from the time served there. He watched men he grew close to get blown to smithereens. so I respect and understand the Viet Nam vets only too well.
My comments had nothing to do with dissing Viet Nam Vets. Or ANY vets. If you read my post, it had to do with this guy was CLEARLY seeking affirmation that he was some kind of hero, not just as a Vet but as a Fireman, etc. His ego was flashing like lights all over his car.
I am sorry if it got read incorrectly!

Alaska Scandal Underscores GOP Troubles

by: Matt Kelley, USA Today
Washington - The Senate's longest-serving Republican, Alaska's Ted Stevens, heads into a primary election today at a time when he is fighting for his political life and his party is struggling to hold onto its Senate seats.
Stevens, who was indicted last month on federal charges of failing to report gifts he got from a wealthy constituent, is likely to survive the GOP primary over six lesser-known challengers. But he's trailing by 13 percentage points in a recent statewide poll by Rasmussen Reports against Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich, Stevens' likely fall opponent

Blue- I agree, we should move to the "Call to Order" thread. This one is way too long!
Good afternoon Democratic America! So what are McEnron and his fellow McPuglican slime machine spewing today?
Warner the Keynote speaker of the dem convention, apparently is running to get the retireing rep. John Warners seat. He plans on his speach working for him and him alone in virginia and does not plan on slamming McCain. Is it too late to switch keynote speakers, this sucks. Last election, every single speaker on the republican side drilled home the same theme. This is how they defined themselves. If all of our speakers don't do this, they will define us and we are done.
John McCaim is mentally ill. I expect that Joe Biden will get to him real fast. Joe knows him well and knows how to push his buttons. The meltdown, if it comes in public, will be spectacular!!

Pam, if I may be so bold, you are suffering from "Over Hero Reaction" or OHR. It seems to be getting worse as we, as Americans, find different ways to find and address hero's amoung us. Perhaps it is our guilt from the 60's that is driving OHR and hopefully in the near future,a cure might be found. But having said that, we all must be very careful in not asuming that not being respectful to everyone who is a hero might be taken as an insult.
Now excuse me but they are about to give an award to our lastest hero here at work - the cleaning lady. She cleaned her 451st toilet last night and we want to make sure she feels the love.

There is a big difference between looking for sympathy, and wanting to be recognized.
Many Viet vets have untreated PTSD, which compounds the problem. It's also one of the reasons so many homeless people are veterans.
Some of the guys have become very defensive about their service to the point that they feel the only defense is to carry out an offensive. Especially if they are confronted by someone of a "liberal" viewpoint.
If you never knew a Democrat who ever disrespected a veteran, we obviously didn't move in the same circles during the VietNam era. I have.
Fortunately it was a generational thing, and most of the rabid military haters have either grown up or gone on other far-out-in-left-field issues. LOL! I have one relative who went from protester to marrying a Viet vet, and I doubt if she was the only one to do that, and yes, she is a life-long Democrat even when she was dissing the kids who went to 'Nam.
I was trying to clarify some history, and trying to explain where some of these guys are coming from.
What I am trying to say is; that in order to win them over you have to see where they are standing and why they are there.
Posted by PamB on August 26, 2008 at 12:59 PM
Agreed, there are some guys like that, but they aren't all veterans. Most of them got student deferments during 'Nam like Cheney did. I know the type, and there's no use arguing with them. They're in the 20% that'll vote for McInsane.
Soon to be President Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden & the American People know the truth about these rascals. And what they truly represent. It's funny how the instant information age has destroyed the outer layers of what it really means to be a republican ~ "cheap slogans", and when the wornout slogans no longer mean anything (due to factual information at hand), all that remains is the shadowy, seedy underworld of corruption, greed and pure rovian vanity. BTW is abramoff out of jail yet? Or will he be sharring his cell with his bosses in 2009?
I am embarrassed to say my party is a loser. I've been a dem all my life. All I can say about the convention and the talking heads is that the dems are losers. McCain is getting more press than the dems. Where are the ads countering McCain.
The man has cancer after all. He could be dead in a year. Talk about putting the country at risk. dems are losers not to point this out.
LOSERS. Set up a 502 to do something. Have you seen the ads in CO about conservative issues.
Dems -- losers again.
OMG- Check this out.
OMG... what a bunch of wack-jobs. Anyone who reads this and falls in line with it has a serious problem with reality.
I laughed and laughed.
Feminism originally was an expression used by suffragettes - who were predominantly pro-life[1][2][3].
(Suffrage was the womens right to vote, had nothing to do with abortion.)
Homeschooling enables students to do well in contests, often winning over students from the school system.
(Probably because the only compete against themselves or siblings)
The theory of evolution posits a process of self-transformation from simple life forms to more complex life forms, which has never been observed
(It hasn't been observed in these wack-jobs family trees anyways.)
abortion causes breast cancer
(Not even going there)
Deceit is the deliberate distortion or denial of the truth with an intent to trick or fool another.[1]
(These wack-jobs have this down to a science)
(Sorry Republicans, I know it is your brain reference, but for the rest of us its just funny)
I don't know, I thought that M Obama's speech was a little weak. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but the nominees wife should not have such an important role. I really think that Obama's brother or father should have given the speech.
Posted by Butte on August 26, 2008 at 01:33 PM
Butte,
I don't see how protesting a purely political decison to go to war (that's what Iraq is all about) is knocking any veteran. I suppose that is a generational thing as you say.
Most of the vets from Korea and Vietnam were drafted. And the ones who volunteered then and for the current conflict are a special breed. I can't imagine why any person would not respect them.
It just doesn't make any common sense. It's only natural to admire those who sacrifice for others.
I repeat, those that use patriotism as a cover to justifying their own selfish political goals must know there is something wrong with them. If your agenda doesn't stand by itself, it's flawed.
I will not allow any Republican to say that Democrats do not respect veterans. It's a down right dirty lie...and I don't care if the person saying it served in WW II, attends church regularly, or gives time and money to charities.
They are no more moral than I am. My religion is just as good as their's. And I have a right to exercise my political will as much as they do without having my intentions questioned.
The Republican bully boys have been getting away with murder for way too long. Kathy is right about that. We need to stand up to them and call them out when they start slandering us.
Please don't defend these old farts when they are wrong just because you feel sorry about the things they had to exerience once in their life.
The Creator never said it was going to be easy. You buck up when times are hard and quit blaming others for your problems. You work with others to make them right again.
SandyH, you are quite confused by Butte's comments. He was responding to a post earlier at 09:45 AM on this thread where she saw a veteran's car parked at her pet store parking lot. Just the fact that the guy had a bumper sticker satirizing Bill and Hillary was her license to say some pretty nasty things about him and his service as well as veterans in general.
Apparently only veterans who ate democrats are worthy of her respect, if they are not then they are worthy of her worse opinions of them.
And yes, soldiers returning from Vietnam were indeed subjected to hatred by war protesters who called them baby killers and spit on them. A sad chapter in our history to be sure.
