Watch Senator Barack Obama's eloquent acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention last night:

What a good idea to put this on YouTube. C-SPAN is linking to it, as well.
What a classy convention you all put together. Thank you.

Thank you for posting this video. The high-definition video in the gallery is absolutely astounding.

I watched John F. Kennedy's acceptance speech in Los Angeles in 1960 (which shows my age). I watched Obama's speech last night on live TV. This morning I told a colleague at work (he's in his 30's) that he is not old enough to remember a better speech. I'm not sure I am, either.

The DNC should package the convention videos into a boxed DVD set for fundraising.

WOW...

obama's speech, i saw the whole thing, came across as a statesman on message. haven't felt that inspired since JFK spoke. i remember JFK's lines about getting to the moon. materials not even invented yet! with the energy crisis, obama prompted all of us to think out of the box. he reminded us that we are that GREAT nation still!

and his pick of joe biden. great pick. obama knows what is a experience and did his homework!

side note: mcsame picked someone he didn't even know nor meet ahead of time? it appears to me he just picked a woman just to placate the woman voters of this country. perhaps mcsame thinks woman in this country are lame (in understanding why he made this dart to the dart board pick) too?

Obama's speech was truly inspirational. It is about time we have a president who is not only articulate, but feels comfortable being frank and talking to the American people as if they are adults. I have no problem being asked to be held accountable and to be responsible for my participation in this society..it's better than being told to ''go shopping'' as if I'm being dismissed for having concerns. He answered his critics with wit and intelligence, and he clearly laid out more vision than McCain could ever hope to see with his bifocals. Last night was what this country is all about...or what it should be.

As for McCains' pick, in his rush to name a Veep, he failed to do his homework. I suppose he believes that women are interchangeable as well as stupid, and that those who supported Hillary will robotically vote for a woman regardless of her views and beliefs...simply because she's a woman. Palin is under investigation for ethics violations...she supports creationism being taught in science classes....she has a dismal conservation record...and she has ZERO foreign policy experience as the candidate next in line to the presidency if the repubs managed to win. She supports drilling in ANWAR. This choice should be hammered and hammered hard. The Dems don't even need to fight dirty like the repubs...just hammer hard with the FACTS!

McCain runs on experience and judgement...the has just proven that he doesn't even have the judgement to pick experience as his running mate.

Why is Sen. Obama portrayed in the media and, claims it himself, that he is African American? His father was African and his mother was Caucasian. Why with this mixed ethnic background does he claim one over the other and his pick is African American? Is it our society that forces him to do so? Or, are we lacking in new terminology such as "Cauc-African American"? Respectfully submitted for consideration.

Guys i just wanted to stop by and say how proud i am to be an american and a democrat we had a phenominal, historic convention this week and on top of that we get to see Hawaii's rising star deliver what i would call the speech of the century.

I applaud the DNC for having a successful convention in Denver and this will be one to remember forever.

I look forward to the upcoming election and looking forward to bring this country the change it deserves and moving forward with Team Obama/Biden onto the road to victory and to The White House as our President and Vice President.

On To November.

The Conventions are about PR and words. The principles and values mentioned in Ecclesiaties for those who understand rational thought and action are often absent from politics in the U.S.A. For those with character, it may seem that thought trumps tomfoolery. In the lives
of those who have no sensibility, the absence
of principle understands nothing.

I've wondered about that myself. I suppose because he had more African American physical characteristics, he decided to choose one over the other?

There has always been controversy around some light-skinned people of mixed backgrounds "passing."

As inter-racial couples become more commonplace, the races will probably blend to a point that someday any kind of special designation will be unnecessary?

All my American political party’s leadership really has to do this election is further exploit how the other party has exploited their obsessive money and power agenda to the point of American economic destruction and international isolation. So I am proud of the fact that Democratic leadership offers so much more through Barack Obama.

It may seem that if one subscribes to the thought
that George W. Bush is a good President that a person who subscribes as such is a person absent of intelligence. George W. Bush is a bad President and has done no good for the United States of America. From allowing more pollution from business to the absence of the kind of sensibility required to justify his presence in Office when seen from a non-negligent mind, George W. Bush has not succeeded to impress me. George W. Bush is the kind of President that I do not have respect for. Anyone belonging to the RNC system must have a screw loose in their head. The RNC is a pathetic waste of time as is George W. Bush.

Morning gregg,

I stepped in it last night and it appears that I brought out the closet republicans who don't give a damn about this country and will not fight to save it from extinction in the hands of the likes of bush, cheney and mccain.

I will not be silenced. Someone has to raise the red flag. Al Gore and John Kerry were too nice to these people. They should have kicked ass and taken names. Nice doesn't cut it anymore. The survival of our nation is at stake and I am not about to let a bunch of criminals take it from us.

How could any honest person be associated with the rabble that is the republican party? It appears to me that they are war criminals of the first order. I am not about to pussy foot around because there is a woman running for VP.

She is in the race with the big boys now and we should not pull any punches.

I pray that the republicans are going to go down in flames this year.

What they have done to our own citizens and what mccain proposes to do to us in the future is totally unacceptable.

What they have done to our world standing and our allies is also despicable and cannot be tolerated any further.

Mc CAIN & PALIN SUPPORT CREATIONISM & INTELLIGENT DESIGN IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS!

Not one Student or school or University should vote for that ticket.
Mc Cain has gone NUTS, & Palin, has turned into a Abortation!
This would turn our Education system, back to Century One.
His VP pick is a insult to the American People!

palin as a VP has given this american a reason to be very concerned...

she commented she hasn't been following her party's iraqmire? perhaps she doesn't even know where or iraq is.

it's obvious ol' john didn't ask tough questions, only trying to placate his base, to then upstage a well done demo convention, and attempt to placate women voters. yet, many american women will learn that the vp views are not the direction they'll follow... perhaps if hillary was blogging here she might say ..."there's more reasons to vote for obama-biden than for mcsame1-mcsame2."

JudyK,

I agree with PamB. There are more important things in the world. However, as the mother of two who have black and white ancestry, I think it's important to allow my children to identify themselves and actually fought my school district which tried to identify my children as black because, as they told my husband, "race follows the mother." This is a legacy of slavery when after black men's access to white women was restricted by law and laws also stated that the condition of children slave or free follows the mother and only black women were slaves.

Read Dreams of My Father about his identity struggle.

I loved the acceptance ceremony when Senator Obama referred to the past eight years and shouted “enough!” I still remember that.

For me, that was like leading the American Public’s voice that Republican leaders had repressed to finally come out and be heard. Representing a leader with authority who wants to Democratically lead the American Majority and Minority voice instead of suppressing the American Public’s voice for the GOP leaders own political purposes.

Yep,

"ENOUGH!" resonated! impulsed me to jump out'a my chair yelling YES! YES!! YES!!! being a warm nite here, my windows were wide open, so my cheering'n'clapping surely resonated up'n'down my street. the spirits of martin luther king and john f kennedy heard it up way up there!

so much he said was on message. his mission statement that this election was not about him, but about us. he gave a challenge to mcsame1 and the unnamed vp as yet, mcsame2, that this election was not about the republicans, but for all americans.

If John McCain is elected he would be 76 at the end of his first term. In the 20th Century we had 17 presidents. Of those, 7 died prior to age 76 (we do not know the status of Bill Clinton's longevity yet). That means there are high odds that his vice president will become president in his first term. Can the country deal with a president with the experience and background of Sarah Palin?

I think not.
