Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

Bermuda

John McCain does more than vacation in Bermuda. He speaks to insurance executives who stash their profits in offshore bank accounts to avoid paying American taxes, and John McCain promises to protect them.

Country first? More like McCain first. Watch the latest television advertisement from the Obama campaign.

I wonder how much cash Cindy has stashed in those off shore accounts so the McCain family doesn't pay their fair share of taxes.

When is Cindy McCain going to release her tax returns for the past eight years?

Does anybody really think the republicans will turn their backs on their party loyalists and financiers? That $700 Billion bailout will hurt middle Americans for years to come, a generational obligation our children and grandchildren will be unable to escape. Necessary? Probably. Fair? Probably Not.

An end to egregious compensation and golden parachutes, even to those who have run their companies into the ground and jeopardized our pensions and economic health? HARDLY!

(Washington Post) Republican Senator Martinez (FLA), "While it is very appealing to think about executive compensation as being a part of this, one of the drawbacks to that is perhaps that we would have fewer entities participate in what is essentially a voluntary act." Sen Shelby (ALA), "It should be up to the board of directors of a private corporation to set the compensation of an executive; it shouldn't be Congress' role."

"Bush issued a statement yesterday warning lawmakers not to 'insist on provision that would undermine the effectiveness of the plan." Dana Perino, asked about Demo plans to limit exec compensation advised them to pass the legislation as Paulson proposed it "the cleaner the better, and the quicker the better." Sen McConnell (R- KY), Senate minority leader, went to the floor to decry those who would make the bailout legislation "flypaper for partisan add-ons."

OK, MCCAIN, TAKE ON THIS CHALLENGE: RETURN TO THE SENATE TO STRONGHAND YOUR PARTY'S REPRESENTATIVES INTO PASSING LEGISLATION THAT WILL ADDRESS AGREGIOUS CEO COMPENSATION AND GOLDEN PARACHUTES FOR COMPANIES ACCEPTING OUR TAX GIFT! YOU PROMISED, NOW DELIVER!
