New York Times notes a few in the crowd during John McCain's acceptance speech:

well, another rip-snorting good time has come to an end. i heard the demented one (did i mention i was once a famous pow?) gave a grand speech according to tweety. oh, and andrea just loved the balloons
aaron- no problem, just the usual barely functioning blog that we've come to know. seems to be hiccuping more tonight than it has in recent days.
maybe tweety bird slobbered all over the tubes or something
Howard Dean really told it like it is on MSNBC today with Tom Brokaw. Here is the video.
Howard Dean interview by Tom Brokaw
Kudos, Howard Dean.
Also I was glad to see that Act Blue delisted the Denver Group for its awful ads against Obama and Dean
I had been wondering why they had a page there.
Oopsy...made a mistake.
Here is the link for Act Blue delisting the Denver group.
this short interview says all you need to know about today's gop- watch ridge call the demented one john bush in this piece from after the speech tonight:
the only thing different about john mccain is john mccain. he's different every time he sets foot in front of a microphone. he's not a maverick, he's not a change agent. he might be showing signs of dementia, but he has definitely been a sycophant for bush and he has his head up the religious right's ass (something he assured us he would never do just before he went and kissed falwell's at liberty u)
john mccain is a change agent all right- he has surrounded himself with neocons who espouse views that are more extreme than bush's gang. that's different all right.
and now he has chosen a liar for a running mate- now that's real class like only the grand old party can offer us
maybe when ms palin said she was against community organizing she really meant that she was against organizing that sought to help citizens of this country. she's apparently all for the kind of organizing that seeks to overthrow the american government and either replace it with one there in her home state or replace the current one with the theocratic nationalist/dominionist christian one that she and her church so desire to see brought to fruition-
here is a little background on the fringe secessionist group that she and her husband love so much:
http://patriotboy.blogspot.com/2008/09/this-is-going-to-help-too.html
it is ironic somehow that we have a secessionist on a ticket this year who is running against the man that will become the first african-american president
it's a little ironic that they're running as change agents by giving us the full flowering of the same old southern strategy by running a full-blown secessionist at the top of their ticket. doesn't sound like change to me, sounds downright archaic
why do you come to a blog to post crap off another blog? how come you can do it
dan cactass
Dan_A_Cactus* your living a dreamworld macain is big fat ass and not living in reality
not a fan of ezra klein, but this short piece says as much as one needs to know about the tired old man who would be president. it does seem like a night/week of ironies, though, because after all the talk of how obama supposedly has made this campaign about himself, the exact opposite is really the truth (which many americans have begun to understand)- the gop is the party of celebrity politics now, they are the ones all about identity politics (witness their choice for vp) and totally devoid of ideas. it's not lost on this country, and tonight only made it more obvious:
http://www.prospect.org/csnc/blogs/ezraklein_archive?month=09&year=2008&base_name=john_mccain_alone
" Such public declarations of patriotism are not about why John McCain loves this country. They are about why this country should love John McCain.
I thought Obama was my choice; but Palin and then McCain seem to be so accomplished that I am reconsidering. I saw Obama on O'Reilly this evening and it seemed to me that O'Reilly was giving Barack the needed information to answer the question he was given. What is happening to him? I think my partisanship has clouded my view of this whole presidential race. What would make Barack Obama seem so intimidated by Bill O'Reilly?
Just a quick thanks for that great video of Dr. Howard Dean speaking so clearly about the false statements!
Turncoat Leiberquackducklips was totally weird. Take that Leiberliar!

The video gift to us from qweencityjefro is a shocker! This is crazy! What is this woman doing, involved with an Alaskan secessionist group that her husband, the so called union guy is a member of??? Talk about extremist! No, this is a total bust! She is caught red handed.
This has to be shown everywhere. We must demand an explanation. This is a red light, wow, STOP HERE. This is not acceptable. This is too far to the right - it's outright civil war, like some southern confederate and she gloated about Lincoln???

Palin's acceptance speech started as a debut and turned into an attack. She is like Cheney's pit bull sent out to sick Obama with numerous false statements! Who are these people? - this is contradictory ad absurdum, this person is not an all American at all but acts like she is the queen bee of the red, white and blue!
Obama speaks about some of this here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwFqED85KWQ
As for McCain using his big patriotism splash and having his buddies all glorify him, what is this songbird stuff and Vets Against McCain all about?
Vetnam Vets Against McCain:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFM1xqqTX_g
And then we had the other pseudo feminists including some stepford wife types in their handmaiden colors yapping on about being like men. Now that is very strange.
They seemed to be fooling everyone with that show, and even swept up an emotional Mr. Hardball as Olberman cringed. That was just so unreal, so... hypnotic. Telling lies about Obama, portraying him in a false light, not mentioning issues or platforms, and their base of people believing each and every act because they so want to believe in these - what, emm... celebrities reading their lines?
Well, from the last eight years we can see that they are really good at putting on campaign shows that convince the audience about how great they are, but what about the actual work? After all, as soon as their false statements are exposed and disproven by Dean, Biden, Obama and all the other factual sources outside their dreamchamber, one is no longer so charmed or convinced.
Wake up America! There is this Republican candidate for VP and she has now been discovered in atleast two very serious infractions that would have gotten candidates tossed out in the past - this stuff is grounds for disqualification, can she be disqualified? Or do we just have to veto this secessionist with our majority of votes? The thought of having a pitbull with lipstick on a bad hair day with her finger on the big bomb button is not very comforting. We must make sure we have a landslide this time DEMS! The circle is closing and this hawkish mean bunch taking us further down a primrosey path of broken promises is too scary. We cannot afford 4 more years of McBush.
Come on back and watch the show with the locals in Alaska and listen to what they are saying, it's nice to get some perspective outside that fantasy globe:

What has Obama done for his brother? He is living in a grass and mud nest in Mongoobi earning $1 per month! Obama could send hin25 bucks and triple his brothers income. But he has not.
Yes sirree, it is gonna be great fun here on election night when the anointed one gets his butt handed to him bY John and the lovely and talented Sarah.
I have never seen a Presidential election easier to predict than this one. Although I picked the last one correctly, I was one point off on Bush's victory margin. I said 4% and he won by 3%. This one is much easier McCain wins 60% - 40%.
After McCain is elected and if he dies after his 2nd year, Sarah would take over and serve out those two years plus she would be allowed to serve two more terms under the Constitution.
We could have Sarah as President for a full 10 years!
Glory, Glory Hallelujah, Glory, Glory Hallelujah, His truth is marching on!
Oh Oh, I just happened to think, when Obama loses 60% - 40%. that is going to have a big effect on all of those Senate and House seats y'all were planning on winning.
Oh mercy me
New data reveals that more than 40 million watched the lovely and talented Sarah.
That is 2,000,000 more than watched Hussein Obama!
Polls are meaningless this time of year but this one is interesting because it says:
(CBS) The presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain is now even at 42 percent, according to a new CBS News poll conducted Monday-Wednesday of this week. Twelve percent are undecided according to the poll, and one percent said they wouldn't vote.
So how bad can it really be if CBS acknowledges that Obama is tied with McCain?
I'd say Obama is behind 60% - 40%.
I live in Boston and a local reporter claimed last night that both Conventions have come and gone and both Conventions served their party well by stimulating its base. He then goes on to say that the DNC offered great speaches and fanfare but it was the RNC that appeared more Genuine! That's right, Genuine.
The only Genuine component to the RNC is that they stayed true to form and attempted to horrify Americans on both sides of the isle by say that only McCain can keep us safe from Terrorists. This is the same Genuine bullshit that Rudy-the-cross dresser-Giuliani spewed the night before.
I am really tired of fear as a campaign theme.
And that dopey meaningless poll was conducted on Monday - before the lovely and talented Sarah resurrected the Republican base and most of the independents.
So how bad can it really be if CBS acknowledges that Obama is tied with McCain?I'd say Obama is behind 60% - 40%.
........and I'm supposed to believe your 20 point delta over CBS? Rule number 1 when trolling, slinging bullshit only creates stinch in the blog room. Feel free to wipe your ass now.

Classic. No, I'm voting for a guy that won't die in office and turn over the Presidency to Suzy Chapstick who has a better chance of blowing a pitbull than understanding what she's getting into.

Sob Story
Tears from the Xcel press stand.
By Kathryn Jean Lopez
St. Paul — I cried Wednesday night at the Xcel Center.
I didn’t just tear up when Alaska governor Sarah Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, talked about her son, Track, who will deploy to Iraq next week. I didn’t just tear up when she talked about her beautiful daughters — including one who has to suffer seeing her most intimate mistake and challenge in the public eye. I teared up when this 44-year-old woman, with her proverbial hair down, felt completely comfortable and confident talking about her love for her husband in a packed arena: “We met in high school, and two decades and five children later, he’s still my guy.”
And, yes, when she spoke of her son, Trig, and about special-needs children, I cried. She said:
And in April, my husband Todd and I welcomed our littlest one into the world, a perfectly beautiful baby boy named Trig. From the inside, no family ever seems typical.
That’s how it is with us.
Our family has the same ups and downs as any other . . . the same challenges and the same joys.
Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge.
And children with special needs inspire a special love.
When you look at that beautiful boy and realize that in America, some 90 percent of parents would not have let him live, how can you not be both terrified for us and filled with joy for the love this little boy has? How can you help but be excited by the prospect that Americans might become more aware of the silent elimination of such blessings?
Without pandering, without sounding like a politician, Palin was able to say, essentially, I am one of you. I work hard. Love my family. Love God (“a servant’s heart”). We struggle, just like you. But we know what is right and what is wrong. And I am here today to make sure you can make the choices you need to do right by your family.
She didn’t have to spell it all out, she showed it to us Wednesday night. She showed us that even a small-town gal from Alaska can be successful and be a leader.
And she laid the groundwork for invigorating a movement. Immediately after her speech, National Review Online readers e-mailed me to tell me they had just watched the next Ronald Reagan, the long-awaited successor. What I think we’re seeing is a new generation of conservatism. As Mitt Romney laid out clearly in his speech earlier in the night, there are some real differences between liberals and conservatives, and with a passionate energy this young woman is on the road to leading the Right into the future, with great respect for those who have laid the groundwork before us.
Other readers asked me why Palin didn’t talk about “life.” Her entire speech was about it. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. American exceptionalism. With love and spirit and good humor.
I’ve not cried during a political speech since the pope and George W. Bush met on the South Lawn of the White House earlier this year. There they talked freely about good and evil, truth and falsehood, God and man, love and hate. They talked about defending what is important and essential — most essential: our very lives and liberty. They talked about the special opportunity that is American life. This is what Sarah Palin presented to Americans watching her, probably meeting her for the first time, Wednesday night.
There are miles to go yet in this election. But Sarah Palin has gotten off to an excellent start. And Americans — men and women reminded of what’s important, boys and girls inspired by her energy and accomplishments — are better people for having met her, this woman in love with her country, her family, her God, and this gift of life in America.

Well also AIDs of course as we have lost well known fags Liberace and Rock Hudson that way.
Face it, how many times have you been repulsed by a restaurant being closed down due to a faerie spreading butt germs into the salads causing the deaths of normal folks by hepatitis?

It would help if YOU would quit working in restaurants!
Sally, you are always throwing rocks at gay people. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." I suspect that you are gay (you protest too much) Why don't YOU come out of the closet? Then you can go over to the Log Cabin Republicans where you belong.
"And I am here today to make sure you can make the choices you need to do right by your family." Palin speech
False statement: no "choices" in family planning are allowed by repugs.
Stick with Hillary, Obama, Biden. Do not be fooled, choice works all ways for all options and is the freedom to choose when, how and why to have a baby by each private individual woman.

Sally...really, fags spread botulism?? Who gave you your sex ed? Sarah Palin??
Nice to see McCain say that he began to love this country while he was a POW...what about before taht? And Palin supported Alaska seceeding from the United States...America First, indeed!
No plan given but more of the same last night.
Every time I look at that picture on the home page of McCain hugging Bush, several questions flash through my mind, is he a little cretin snuggling up to his "Daddy"??? Is he crying??? Or is he trying to sniff Bush's armpit without being to obvious. I know that sounds real crude, but go back and look at the picture for yourself.
Morning JohnBoy,
It's getting cooler in the mornings.
Isn't mcgeezer disgusting always insulting Obama and stealing his talking points and these morons just love it. I can't stand to look at him. He will not stack up with other world leaders. No one wants to talk with a shrimp. That woman he chose is also disgusting. I am hoping they will find some illegal activities or some nude photos and that would be the end of her. That disgusting old man picked her for purely political reasons and she is an insult to honest Americans and especially Hillary.
CBS had the gall to say that Obama and mcgeezer are tied. What a laugh.
Morning Marie and mammalicious,
I heard that woman lost the Catholic vote when she disparaged Obama for being a neighborhood organizer and she went on to say that they have no responsibilities. I would say as mayor of podunk she had no reponsibilities whatsoever. Biden is also a Catholic so he is going to make her look like a fool.
mcgeezer keeps complaining about earmarks. he wouldn't know an earmark if it bit him in the butt. I understand that aid to Israel is an earmark. So let's cut it out. cheney's one billion dollars to the commies in georgia will
be an earmark (hopefully congress will stomp on cheney and tell him HELL NO).
If mcgeezer tells us one more time that he was a prisoner of war I am going to scream. There were hundreds of other prisoners. I have serious doubts whether this fool was a hero in the prison camp. Why does he get hostile every time the POW MIA group asks his committee to help find their loved ones? He becomes violent towards them. There are pictures on line of mcgeezer actually hugging his guards at a reunion some time back. Does this look like he was tortured by them.
Vote OBAMA/BIDEN 2008 or move to Canada.
Morning dusty,
The troll must have passed out or he is in the restroom with larry craig.
McCain trying to paint himself as being like Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt is comparable to Hitler trying to compare himself to Mother Teresa! I know that is harsh but Abraham Lincoln believed in "Government of the People, by the People AND for the People." Last night McCain warned all the good old boys in Washington "that change is coming!"..What?? He's been up there for 26 years. If he hasn't been able or willing to change it before now, does he think that the addition of the Earmark Queen of Alaska is going to change anything? All in all, it's just so much political rhetoric to get elected. He doesn't believe a word of it himself.
After Obama is in office we need to look closely at the MSM. I think Obama should invoke the Sherman Anti-Trust Act and break up these companies. I understand that there are over 1,000 repuke radio stations in the nation. I wonder how many owners this boils down to. Break them up.
The same applies to oil companies. Oil companies should be broken up into crude oil production, refining and distribution. A company can own a certain number of wells but should not own the refining capacity or the stations. The only way we are going to get competition back into the business is to require service stations to have E-85 pumps, gasoline pumps, hydrogen pumps, natural gas pumps and biodiesel pumps. If these stations are owned by oil companies we will never see anything but gasoline pumps. The stations must be independent. Being independent, we would see a price difference in the products.
cheney needs to be arrested the minute he gets off our plane next Wednesday at Andrews AFB. He has been in the Caucuses snubbing "our" nose at Russia and fomenting WWIII. He should tried in the Hague for crimes against peace, found guilty and hanged. I am sick of these clowns thumbing their noses at the American people and calling us unpatriotic if we don't agree with their criminal activities.
North Korea started up their nuclear research again because bush and cheney would not remove them from the terrorist nation list. It's a matter of honor with these people. bush gave his word that they would be taken off the list if they stopped their nuclear research. bush reniged on the deal (on purpose)?
Isn't it convenient that the oil company buddy's of cheney are dropping the price of gasoline just in time for the election.
I see no difference on any of these issues if mcgeezer is elected. The bimbo is an oil "man".
Scarborough, Buchanan Completely Reverse Positions On Palin In Just Five Days»
Today, Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan enthusiastically endorsed Gov. Sarah Palin, praising her experience compared to Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) and slamming criticism of her as sexist attempts to “destroy this woman”:
BUCHANAN: Maybe she doesn’t have the foreign policy experience to be president now. But she’s a great asset, and she’s not DC, so they want to kill her. They are trying to destroy her in a way. […]
SCARBOROUGH: How can Barack Obama’s campaign criticize an inexperienced number two on the Republican side when Democrats have picked, I would say, probably the most inexperienced person to run for President of the United States in the Democratic party probably in a century?
Watch a compilation:
What a difference five days makes. Awaiting McCain’s VP announcement on Friday, Scarborough and Buchanan sang a very different tune, declaring Palin too inexperienced and pointing out that Obama “validated himself with 18 million votes”:
SCARBOROUGH: She’s only, she’s only been a governor for one year?
BUCHANAN: She’s been a governor one-and-a-half years, yeah.
SCARBOROUGH: That, that will not work. [Laughter] No seriously, you’re going to bring somebody from Alaska who’s been a governor — Let’s be honest here. … I just find it hard to believe that with the problems that we have across the world…that you’re going to have a governor that’s been there for one-and-a-half years as Vice President.
What a bunch of crap. I wish we could make a commerical out of this!

on those arguments about who will do what to our taxes this is informative:

Good morning Dusty
Good morning JohnE,..Well it looks like Florida may be hit again. I have a daughter over there. She is on Anna Marie Island (Bradenton), hopefully she won't get to much of it this time being on the west coast. We may get Ike into the Gulf. This we don't need, Louisiana was hit hard already and we don't need the oil drilling platforms being damaged. So, cross your finger for us......John Boy.....
In the upcoming debates, mcgeezer and the bimbo had better not be using a wire so their criminal friends like rove can whisper the answers to debate questions in their ears.
These people will cheat like bush did in 2004. I think even raygun had a wire. He was too spaced out to even know what was going on.
KA=CHING!!! A lot of bucks going into the snake pit this morning. This is a pay-per-reply make-money-at-home deal.

I would say as mayor of podunk she had no reponsibilities whatsoever.
She hired a city manager to run the show.
unemployment at 6.1%
employment payroll way down...great news for republicans...they can run against themselves and lose!
frances,
You are right. In my town of 6,800, the mayor is kind of like an ambassador. he also sits on the city council.
The city manager who I indirectly work for does all the work and has the responsibility of running the city. She is hired on an "at will" basis which means the mayor can fire her any time he becomes disatified with her work.
Gregg, thanks for the link on the tax plans. I Bookmarked it for future reference....Jon Boy.....
That figure of 6.1% is criminal. How can people continue to vote for these neocons when they have destroyed our nation and are driving us into bankruptcy.
I don't believe mcgeezer and that woman will no anything to help our workers. They are beholding to the corporations and mcgeezer will no doubt appoint lobbyists to his cabinet and the department and ageny positions.
mcgeezer is lying. The "get a second job and quit sponginf off the government" crowd is alive an well.
Oh, I forgot, mcgeezers buddy gramm is alive and well too. "whiners".
We are all a bunch of socialists. To think that we are demanding health care, social security, free college, subsidized child care. It's despicable.
I suspect that Palin and family will be an asset to McCain, for awhile. We don't want to beat up on her too hard, might create a backlash. However, what the investigations in Alaska reveal are fair game! As is her record of being "The Earmark Queen of Alaska" I hope the main stream media does it's job and asks her the hard questions that should be asked......Later....John Boy....
Let the big shots who put their money where their mouths are, call the odds!
Obama = 59.1
McCain = 40

Call you bookie today if you want to make a few dollars on this race. Too bad the old troll does not have a dollar to his name to put a bet on his little guess !
Also, it is mind boggling looking at this group of New Conservatives, that it is now OK to have sex outside of marriage, and get pregnant---as long as you don't abort the baby!!!
hmmmmmmm, I wonder if the Evangelicals see the hypocrisy of this, while they still try to push abstinence??? Dobson called Bristol Palin a sinner the other day, but then finished off his little speech with "God forgives her though". What a bunch of sick, sick bastids!
Sometimes there's just no better way to describe bullshit, such as the species of oratorical bowel movement that John McCain heaved last night, than by calling it what it is, and that would be, bullshit -- and in McCain's case, exceptionally stunning, vastly insulting bullshit, and, because of its setting, even historic bullshit.
South Carolina senator and McCain-sidekick Lindsey Graham, in a previewing memo to Republican colleagues yesterday, described the coming bullshit as a partisan call to arms: "Wake up! We're a party in retreat. We need to regroup, change the way we are doing business."
By that, Sen. Graham only meant, of course, crank up the bullshit. And as I listened to Sen. McCain last night, it kept occurring to me that the business model that mad-booster Graham most assuredly had in mind was none other than that of Sears past.
No, really, this is relevant. Bear with me.
Several years ago the retail giant fell into real financial trouble, chiefly because it had invested many preceding years into honing its off-putting reputation for an unfailingly rude indifference to customers. Sears had been the biggest, baddest-ass kid on the commercial block for so long, it had long since stopped caring about the folks it was supposed to be serving.
Unsurprisingly this behavior eventually began cutting into Sears' bottom line. So the firm launched an advertising/public relations campaign promoting what it called its "softer side." Yes, suddenly, it cared. It cared deeply. Oh, did it care.
But naturally, coincident to this campaign the company didn't bother to actually ratchet down any of its infamous indifference to customers. That would have required real and quite costly effort; an authentic, fundamental shift in the way Sears thought and did business.
The p.r. campaign alone, however, managed to fool just enough formerly abused but forgiving souls into giving Sears a second, third, or tenth chance.
Obvious object lesson: The company (mis)managed to hold on a while longer by changing absolutely nothing but its cheap bullshit.
More obvious object lesson: The masses buy cheap bullshit.
contd.
The unemployment rate doesn't even tell the whole picture about how difficult the job market has become. It only counts those who looked for work during the month, not unemployed people who want jobs but who have become discouraged from looking for work. And it also doesn't count those who want full-time jobs but can only find part-time position.
The so-called underemployment rate, which includes those two other groups, rose to 10.7%, the highest reading since 1994
Pam - I stopped shopping at Sears when it was learned that they gave big time to Tom DeLay and his re-election. If you remember, it was the Sears check that got Tom DeLay into trouble with the ethics committee and soon he got the boot.
I wrote to Sears and complained about the election money they gave to DeLay. They wrote back and in short said "too bad - we have nothing to apologize for". That was enough for me - I haven't walked back into a Sears store since then and will never buy anything from them again. I'd sooner go to Wal-Mart so you know how deeply I feel because I won't shop at Wal-Mart either.
The so-called underemployment rate, which includes those two other groups, rose to 10.7%, the highest reading since 1994Posted by Kathy_from_Indiana on September 5, 2008 at 09:37 AM
This is key for us. When Clinton was in office we had the best employment record. But when the Republicans took over - the workers of this country have suffered. And it's getting worse. Why would we want to continue this trend under McCain when he doesn't have a clue about the economy and won't even bring it up at her convention?
Kathy, I was in the market a couple weeks ago, for a new above stove microwave. so I knew pretty much the one I wanted, so went to Sears first for pricing, as it was a Whirlpool, which they own.
I got their price for it, (which was on sale btw,) and then went a little further from the mall, to an appliance store where the same exact model was $60 cheaper, and that was not even on Sale! Needless to say you can guess where I bought it.
with the price of gas now, I shall just skip the Sears pricing from now on.........
hehehe - someone intereviewed Hucklebee last night and he responded "John BUSH' = he paused them corrected himself... another republican who knows whats happening.
And another great commerical.
If you have not donated, folks, even $5 will help. That is how Howard Dean got to the level he was at when he ran!
Obama Camp Has Now Raised More Than $10 Million Since Palin Speech
The cash keeps flowing in to the Obama campaign in the wake of Sarah Palin's speech, suggesting that whatever effect she's had on the GOP base has been duplicated on the Democratic side.
Obama spokesperson Tommy Vietor confirms that the campaign has now pulled in over $10 million since her speech -- a "one day record," Vietor says.
"I hope she gives a speech every day," Vietor joked.
Separately, the RNC reportedly raised $1 million after the speech.

I didn't know Sears owned Whirpool - are you sure? I thought they owned Kenmore.
I gave last night in her honor - I think every time she craps up, Obama will make money.
Gee, ya think that the community service workers will donate too?
Good morning, all.

Johne,
You might be right about Palin getting herself in trouble with Catholics.
It's really no secret that the Christian Right doesn't consider Catholics "legitimate" Christians sand takes swipes at the Roman Church all the time when they think they aren't being heard. Having a female face to pin it on, however, may be McCain's undoing.
Catholic women already thought this woman was a twit for the way she handled her own pregnancy and the striptease unveiling of her daughter's condition.
Now that Palin has been seen on TV trash talking others, those comments made against the beloved Pope John by the Christian Right will come back to them in full force.
If the GOP pushes Palin's religion too far (and what other thing does she bring to the table), there could be a backlash from this community and other Protestant denominations which has been hit hard by the Bush recession/stagflation/outsourcing.
I think dors made a good point last night in that Jesus was a community organizer. Those that live in Catholic parishes see them as communities.
The McCain camp screwing up again. They don't understand the people whom they are trying to reach...and don't even try.
This morning we heard a clip from last night where McCain was talking about those suffering from the sub-prime crisis. He gave the example of a man whose "real estate investments" had been hurt. My husband said, "Who is he talking about a slum landlord?"
Catholics are not one issue voters. The more the Republicans demonstrate that they are totally out of touch and insensitive to the problems of working Americans, the more resistance they will face with Catholics and everyone else.
Gotta run. later.
A US navy flagship has steamed into a Georgian port where Russian troops are still stationed, stoking tensions once again in the tinderbox Caucasus region.A previous trip by American warships was cancelled at the last minute a week ago amid fears that an armed stand off could erupt in the Black Sea port of Poti.
The arrival of the USS Mount Whitney came as Moscow accused Dick Cheney, the hawkish US vice-president, of stoking tensions during a visit to Tbilisi yesterday, in which he vowed to bring Georgia into the Nato alliance. Russia sees any such move as a blatant Western encroachment on its traditional sphere of influence.
Russia’s leadership has already questioned whether previous US warships that docked at the port of Batumi, to the south, were delivering weapons to rearm the smashed Georgian military, something Washington has denied...

Good morning Kathy from one battleground state to another.
One for the road:
McCain wanted to divert voters’ attention from the fact that he's an aging incompetent Republican who shares Bush's agenda to that of a fresh pretty woman's face.
What he's really done is replaced his image with the face of an angry sanctimonious woman who carries a chip on her shoulder. Palin reminds you of that supervisor that you can't ever please and doesn't even know her stuff.
I'm an ex-Catholic, I went "over the wall" a long time ago. But if I was still a Catholic, I wouldn't vote for "Mary Tyler" Palin if the Pope himself begged me to.
What m/s Palin does not seem to comprehend is that Mother Teresa was a community organizer also. That puts Barack Obama is really good company!
Brokaw: But the fact is, Governor, that you had eight years of a Bush administration, and a lot of Republicans in Congress for the past eight years. So why wouldn’t the American people say, ‘look, they had their shot, we’re gonna change?’”
Ridge: Because John Bush…because John McCain is very much his own man. Because John McCain brings a different style, a different approach to the Republican leadership.

According to Nicole Wallace of the McCain campaign, the American people don’t care whether Sarah Palin can answer specific questions about foreign and domestic policy. According to Wallace — in an appearance I did with her this morning on Joe Scarborough’s show — the American people will learn all they need to know (and all they deserve to know) from Palin’s scripted speeches and choreographed appearances on the campaign trail and in campaign ads.

Thanks bush, gramm and mcbush.
Weary investors in the United States received a further pummelling yesterday as data showed new unemployment claims at a near-five-year high last week, a leading fund manager gave warning that America faced a “financial tsunami” and key retailers released disappointing sales figures.
Mr Gross said: “If we are to prevent a continuing asset and debt liquidation of near-historic proportions, we will require policies that open up the balance sheet of the US Treasury.”

Neither will this Catholic.

I sure as hell care. We must make them answer random questions. They mustn't get away with only scripted answers. That woman makes a speech and refuses to answer questions. bush does the same thing and it is unacceptable.
Blue - I had part of that right - thanks for making a correction and the link. I think that says it all.... what a niffty commerical.
That woman will pull the same crap as cheney and try to set up a fourth branch of government. Everything will most likely be secret, we can't answer questions during and investigation, or she will plead sovereign immunity.
I think if there's one or two things that have done the republicans in are these: first - the speech by that lady. Mocking community workers was probably the biggest mistake of the week. That's what being an American is all about - helping one another. Mocking this as she did just shows how far out of touch McCain and her party are. Second - blaming the media for everything that is wrong with her party - I remember what happened when they did that in 64' - the media turned on them with hot questions - it was brutal. Dan Rather became a star because the republicans treated the media with contempt.
We can only hope that MSM will have had their gut full and start being a free speech media again.
Johne,
It's obvious that McBush's camp fears the worst in letting Ms. Alaska have control of her own tongue. Maybe the can get Mattel to attach one of those strings at the back of her with recorded messages that say things like, "Vote for me and I'll kill a moose!", and "Girls can be president too!".
Suzy gun toting, bible banging Palin is just a pig with liptick.
This woman was not vetted. Now that she has declared war on the media you can bet your ass the vetting will begin.
How the hell does it take a person 6 colleges and 6 years to get a degree in journalism?

"McNuts said in his speech last night, that he marches to the beat of his own drum beat.
And everyone know what that is BOMB BOMB BOMB and then BOMB some more.
Screw this War Mongrel, he is a doddering imbecile.
All he knows is war war war, and bomb bomb bomb.

Ms. Alaska - the gift that just keeps on giving and giving....
No way could I take 4 years of McCain's speeches. the 'my friends' crap is bad enough but the 'long pause' with the phony smile when he is looking for appluase is killer.
We need to get this guy off the stage.
Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin attended five colleges in six years before graduating from the University of Idaho in 1987. Federal privacy laws prohibit the schools from disclosing her grades, and none of the schools contacted by The Associated Press could say why she transferred/Nicolas Geranios, AP.
I am beginning to wonder if that women will make it through the next 2 months. My take is that she will give it up. McCain has got to be thinking - what did I get myself into these days....
The best part of McCain's speech.

New McCain plan: Reclaim maverick imageJonathan Martin Fri Sep 5, 5:33 AM ET
ST. PAUL, Minn. – John McCain intends to return to his maverick roots in the suddenly-here home stretch of the general election, portraying himself and his unconventional running mate as the real reformers and trying to steal the mantle of change from Barack Obama.
His turbulent convention now over and Labor Day already past, McCain’s path to victory in November is found in setting himself apart from his own deeply unpopular party and president in an election where voters are aching for a departure from the status quo, aides say...
(Bold mine.)
So now that the convention is over, he's no longer a Republican?
Everything he and Palin said was a lie and they don't agree with the Republican platform or the things that were said by themselves or the other speakers?
I'd want to disassociate myself from that Party and it's record of the last eight years, too. But asking voters to believe that after he planned and led that convention, he's now rejecting the people that cheered for him is beyond bizzare.
Unconventional? It's more like dysfunctional dementia has set in with him and his handlers. He's McNuts. She's even nuttier.
You might not believe this...but there's another New morning Open Thread.
***************************************************************** NEW THREAD *******************************************************************************************************
Friday, September 05, 2008 A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom.The figures include 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of Palin and 18% with a Very Unfavorable view (full demographic crosstabs are available for Premium Members). Before her acceptance speech, Palin was viewed favorably by 52%. A week ago, 67% had never heard of her.
The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain’s choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden.
Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%.
There is a strong partisan gap when it comes to perceptions of Palin. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of Republicans give her favorable reviews along with 33% of Democrats and 59% of voters not affiliated with either major party.
She earns positive reviews from 65% of men and 52% of women...

And the sheeple have been suckered yet again. I wonder how many more times the American sheeple will fall for these empty suits of the GOP, or in this case, empty skirts.

That speech was written weeks ago for the man who would be VP, probably Tim Pawlenty, who was as surprised as everyone else that he was not the guy. It was modified to be less masculine and all she had to do was read it from the teleprompter. She could have been reading My Pet Goat for all the difference it would have made. She did not write the speech and I don't even know if she had any input into it but she did deliver it with fervor.
LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says she's excited about a landmark trip she will make to Libya on Friday, becoming the highest-ranking American official to visit the North African country in more than a half-century."I am very much looking forward to it," she said here before leaving for Tripoli, where she will meet and shake hands with Moammar Gadhafi and close a nearly three-decade era of bitter animosity between the United States and Libya.
"It is a historic moment and it is one that has come after a lot of difficulty, the suffering of many people that will never be forgotten or assuaged, Americans in particular for whom I am very concerned," Rice told a news conference in Lisbon.
"It is also the case that this comes out of a historic decision that Libya made to give up weapons of mass destruction and renounce terrorism," she said. "Libya," she added, "is a place that is changing and I want to discuss how that change is taking place."...
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080905/D930HSA00.html
Now what the hell is Secretary Rice doing in Libya when the Russians are invading Georgia, Iraq is still a mess, Afghanistan is neglected, and so on? Then I read on...
...As the first secretary of state to visit the former pariah, oil-rich country in more than a half-century, Rice's visit will represent a foreign policy success for a Bush administration badly in need of one in its final months...
It's all about the oil, again. COL Ghaddafi should feel fortunate in one respect. We didn't send the Marines in to "negotiate" as we did in Iraq.
raygun sent in bombers and missed him but killed one of his children. Remember. I wonder if she is going to apologize for mcgeezer the first.
After listening to the Republicans for the past few days, I finally came to a realization - They only talk to the rich.
If you are a rich person and listen to what they are tell you, then everything makes sense and the facts fit.
McCain Acceptance Speech.
"All you ever asked of government is to stand on your side, not in your way."
-Under Bush/McCain, government has got out of the way for the morgage companies and people are losing their homes, while standing by the side the CEO's and stockholders making millions.
-Under Bush/McCain, government has got out of the way of the oil companies and gas prices have risen from $1.78 per gallon to over $4, while standing by the side of the oil companies and the CEO that have made Billions.
-Under Bush/McCain, government has got out of the way of companies shipping jobs overseas and the Americans have lost jobs while standing by the side of the CEO's and big corporations that have made Millions.
-Under Bush/McCain, government has got out of the way of inspecting goods arriving at our shores while the American people have eaten tainted food and children have played with led painted toys, while again standing by the side of CEO's and big corporation that made millions.
-For decades the Republicans and Bush/McCain have worked to have government get out of the way of the environment, while ice caps melt and storms intensified, while standing by the sides of the big polluters to ensure they make millions.
That list goes on and on....
"We believe in low taxes; spending discipline, and open markets. We believe in rewarding hard work and risk takers and letting people keep the fruits of their labor."
-low taxes for the rich and big corporations.
-spending discipline to keep workers wages low and CEO's can make millions.
-open markets so big corporations can take advantages to eliminate the competition and buy out small businesses. ie, farm industry is now mainly corporations, ie, walmart replaced corner grocers, etc.
-rewarding hard work with longer hours and smaller paychecks.
-risk takers with baleouts when the risk fails. ie, morgage companies, Savings and Loans, etc.
-letting people keep the fruits of their labor but you have to labor more for less fruit, unless your rich.
I agree with Obama - ENOUGH!!!!
I could go line by line through McCain's speech like this but there are not enough hours in the day to show every issue they error on.
Enjoy!
Obama spokesperson Tommy Vietor confirms that the campaign has now pulled in over $10 million since her speech -- a "one day record," Vietor says.

Sounds like the Obamunists are fearful. They should be. Money doesn't translate to votes though. This is not the primary anymore. I suspect the more visible the Obamunist becomes the worse he does.
Anybody else notice that the former Bush team has been sabotaging McCain's campaign? I think that Bush has been pissed that McCain didn't want him at the RNC and is trying to pin all of our problems on him.
Just look at what has happened:
Sarah Palin gets the VP nod. She takes away McCain's biggest talking point, experience, and has a laundry list of skeleton in her closet. The fact that evangelicals haven't denounced her having an unmarried pregnant daughter has to be surprising even Rove.
The Palin speech has caused an unprecendented outpouring of donations due to the fact that people that were on the fence are now doing everything possible to keep her from the White House due to the horrible first impression she made. Senior citizens especially have been switching loyalties, many of whom couldn't get past the color barrier.
Then to top it all off, Bush's former speech writer gets interviewed after McCain's speech last night and says it missed the bar and basically sounded like a war story followed by a speech about a guy who used to be a maverick. This is the guy who worked with Palin on her speech, and he's not even attempting to spin it for the top of the ticket.
Obama didn't need any more help, but it appears as if the core Republicans are upset that McCain beat their system and are sabotaging his bid for president. More power to them.
I just refuse to believe that a beauty queen could become the first woman Vice President of the United States of America. I am a 51 year old woman and thought that by now we would have gender equality. After all, that was the promise of the 1960's and 70's. Maybe we are closer to gender equality than I know and the next male president we elect will be a Chip and Dale dancer? I mailed a contribution to help elect Senator Obama as President...collectively he can win and I will weep for joy when he takes office! However, if Governor Palin is elected, I will weep for all that will be lost in our great nation and will never cast another ballot. I have voted in every presidential election since the age of 18, but for me, that would be the death of our political system and would be a sad, sad day. I do have great faith in our better angels and truly believe our Country will come together and put the right men in office!
CALL TO ACTION---ALL DEMOCRATS---on SEPTEMBER 11th:
"I"M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE!" This is our battle cry.
Anger is useful and we need to get more people riled up; I'm serious about shouting from our windows in every state on September 11th.
The time has come for us to channel that anger and call attention to our dissatisfaction in a BIG way.
Join with me and open your window September 11th, shouting: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more."
Let the air ring with a call to action. And then spend the next month getting people signed to vote for Obama and on election day, drive them to the polls.
Do it at 7 pm CST on September 11th....and EVERY THURSDAY THEREAFTER UNTIL THE ELECTION.

HOW OBAMA MIGHT ORGANIZE HIS PRESENTATIONS
TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THIS ELECTION [395wds]
In the post-Palin milieu I have been disappointed and frightened by the fact that Barack Obama is having so much trouble dealing with the theatrics and propaganda of the RRRR (Republican Radical Religious Right) and its McCain off-shoot. Obama seems to be a bit speechless in the face of surging nonsense--unable to organize responses that inspire the media and his audiences. He is too honest and thoughtful to do this job naturally. The shadow of 2004 looms.
HE SHOULD STRUCTURE HIS PUBLIC APPEARANCES
To help his audience he should reveal a structure that allows him to be the professor for part of it; the scornful combative politician for another part; the inspirational orator for another part and so on.
The following scenario, or rewrite of it by Michelle and Barack & Co, would greatly relieve the anxiety of his listeners. They would come to realize that it is his very mastery of a wide range of material that inhibits his cleaning up the garbage.
Until everybody knows what to expect, he begins every appearance by naming and explaining the five acts of his presentation:
OBAMA'S ONE-MAN PLAY IN FIVE ACTS
ACT I Serious review of issues with proposals and plans
ACT II The McCain-Palin traveling sideshow and comedy of errors. This is where he uses humor and deserved ridicule of things they have said and done (or failed to say and do) in the past week or two. A frequent feature of this act might be a recital of the most obvious, substantive and complete reversals of McCain's positions.
Act III Leading by talking. Expanded and refined definitions and critique of the terms of art in discussing politics and governing: liberal, radical, conservative, neocon, income equity, trickle-down. What is an issue? What is propaganda? When does an exaggeration or an omission become a lie? Why every important thing that a President accomplishes is achieved by talking--to persuade or instruct--sometimes by writing--but never with a hammer or shovel or gun. WITH WORDS.
Act IV Featured lecture. The one main point he wishes to make today or this week or this month. His most vital current position laid out in detail.
Act V Oration. Leave them completely elevated or crying or furious or doubled up with laughter as only he can do it.
