Jobless Rate Hits Five-Year High

Remember, John McCain says the "fundamentals of our economy are strong." Tell that to 84,000 people who lost their job this past month.
The nation's unemployment rate zoomed to a five-year high of 6.1 percent in August as employers slashed 84,000 jobs, dramatic proof of the mounting damage a deeply troubled economy is inflicting on workers and businesses alike.

I can relate. I figure I'll just house sit in one of the McCain's homes. But is he a little over extended at the moment?
Did C/J. McCain take out a 2nd mortgage on her outfit she wore to cover the taxes on one their beach homes for 4 years of skipping out on payments.
OH, McCain was (WAS) a POW. It is ok.
My bad. :)
I think the democratic party needs to run the following ad:
1. show the clip where mcain says "fundamentals of our economy are strong".
2. show the facts, unemployment, loss of jobs, forclosures, bush and mcain deficit!, etc.
3. show the clip where he says he doesnt really understand the economy.
4. close with, you are right senator mcain, you don't get it. (needs a better closing)
the democrats cannot let the republicans blame the deficit on them like mccains latest ad. this is one issue that the democrats are right on. it is the borrow and spend republicans who have created the vast majority of the debt. the american public does not realize that 20% of our tax dollars goes just to pay the interest on the debt, they need to be educated.
why are we surprised at 6.1%?
taxpayer monies that went to iraqmire, enriching the republican big corporate donors, could have helped rebuild america's infrastructure (likes of katrina), employing americans right here...american middle class workers spending money here...taxdollars put into local coffers here. obama was right to vote against invading iraq. we're broker for it. why are we surprised? mcbush voted w/bush 95% and would continue the mandate to pick a fight w/iran, russia, columbia, north korea, venezuela ... while we lose jobs, collect less taxes, and enrich the repub donors. i'd suppose some of those wealthy repubs at the convention were already plotting the next big adventure to line their pockets at the expense of us working folks!
and this 7 house thing of mcbush? suppose there's many folks praying for a place in the park to pitch a tent to call home?
and if someone makes over 5 mill you're considered rich? suppose many folks would like to have just an extra 5000 a year to pay for the increased costs of healthcare, food, fuel to just get by?
Thousands of unemployed owe their joblessness to the likes of Carli Fiorina and Mitt Romney, and other corporate wigs who make more money for themselves by employing the fewest people possible at the lowest wage and benefits packages they can get away with. This is the face of the republican party, along with McCain's wife wrapped in $300K garb for all of America to drool over.
Republicans tell us this election is about character and social values (for the 3rd consecutive presidential election cycle) because they don't have a clue or a care about people who are struggling to find jobs or hold on to the ones they have. They pray at the altar of the golden godess and make promises they have no intention of keeping. They hide from mainstream media so they can throw darts with their short hate-filled commercials.
Republicans run a candidate who is tied to the evangelical right, those holding to the end-of-times theological perspective. Those of us who care about the plight of other people, who want a better life for our chidren and grandchildren, shouldn't be too concerned about whether we'll spend eternity with their likes.
It's funny that some people blame the gov't for our weakened economy. Bush did not cause the housing crisis, greedy and foolish Americans caused our housing crisis.
Our struggling capital markets have been caused by American's signing loan contracts they couldn't afford for houses they couldn't pay for. Contrary to what many politicians claim, Bush has nothing to do with our current economic struggles nor does the republican party.
Had Kerry or Gore been our president the last 8 years, we'd likely be in the same economic position we are now!

WheatlyCreek, I'm with you.
As and old corporate finance guy, I summarize the ecomonic results with three numbers:
1) 22 milliom jobs created under Clinton's Democratic policies, 5 million under Bush.
Duh!
2) Median family income up $7,500 under Democratic admin, down $2,000 under Bush
Come on!
3) Deficits turned into surplusses under Democrats, Bush added $4 trillion to the national debt. Just the interest on the added debt is $2,000 per family of four per year. And that is a tax that will go on forever!
JOHN McCAIN IS TAXING YOUR CHILDREN
"JOHN McCAIN IS TAXING YOUR CHILDREN"
maybe my grandkids too! unless they become a "corporate" and ship jobs offshore to avoid taxes. mcsame is so bought by the corporate for this new election.
add to this, a quick-pick of a woman beyond the views of most american woman, was an insult to all women voters. mclame thinks women can't think thru issues, and only gender matters. ol' john needs a wake up call ... maybe at 3 am if not on election day.
