Good Friday morning Democrats! I hope you and yours are finding what you ‘need’ this morning: your food; shelter and clothing because the present Republican agenda is giving financial corporations everything they ‘want.’ This home mortgage crisis is something else, isn’t it?

Yeah those Republican leaders can give the tax cuts to ‘specifically who’ and what ‘certain businesses’ they ‘want’ to but they can’t do the business math.

Do you suppose most people know why Barack Obama’s $1,000 tax break is better than any amount of Republican tax cuts?

Because a set amount of a tax break is something no party can take back from you once it is given. Unlike the Republican tax cuts that their GOP hopes that Democrats might have to later roll back in order to meet the ridiculously slashed budget where they can then try to blame Democratic leadership. So Republican leadership usually doesn’t use set tax cut amounts in their tax cut agenda on purpose.

Republican leadership cares more about their political power than their tax cuts that’s why they deserve a power cut. I myself, think plain, I mean, palin is more of the same. Yeah, McCain and plain are more of the same!

(She does look mighty plain next to Hillary Clinton, doesn’t she?)

LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says she's excited about a landmark trip she will make to Libya on Friday, becoming the highest-ranking American official to visit the North African country in more than a half-century.

"I am very much looking forward to it," she said here before leaving for Tripoli, where she will meet and shake hands with Moammar Gadhafi and close a nearly three-decade era of bitter animosity between the United States and Libya.

"It is a historic moment and it is one that has come after a lot of difficulty, the suffering of many people that will never be forgotten or assuaged, Americans in particular for whom I am very concerned," Rice told a news conference in Lisbon.

"It is also the case that this comes out of a historic decision that Libya made to give up weapons of mass destruction and renounce terrorism," she said. "Libya," she added, "is a place that is changing and I want to discuss how that change is taking place."...

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080905/D930HSA00.html

Now what the hell is Secretary Rice doing in Libya when the Russians are invading Georgia, Iraq is still a mess, Afghanistan is neglected, and so on? Then I read on...

...As the first secretary of state to visit the former pariah, oil-rich country in more than a half-century, Rice's visit will represent a foreign policy success for a Bush administration badly in need of one in its final months...

It's all about the oil, again. COL Ghadafi should feel fortunate in one respect. We didn't send the Marines in to "negotiate" as we did in Iraq.

That speech was written weeks ago for the man who would be VP, probably Tim Pawlenty, who was as surprised as everyone else that he was not the guy. It was modified to be less masculine and all she had to do was read it from the teleprompter. She could have been reading My Pet Goat for all the difference it would have made. She did not write the speech and I don't even know if she had any input into it but she did deliver it with fervor.

Robert Reich's Blog -- This man really has his head on straight, good ammunition to put in your democratic quiver. Some recent highlights....

Today's Jobs Report, and What it Means

Today's jobs report confirms not only how badly the economy is doing, but how badly working families are doing -- and why it's not possible to revive the economy unless and until working families have more purchasing power......

It's the Economy, Stupid

The Labor Department today reported that business productivity surged to a revised 4.3 percent annual rate in the second quarter of the year. That's impressive. It's nearly double the 2.2 gain previously reported. It's also well ahead of forecasts. So why did stocks tumble and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fall more than 300 points?......

Vetting

Having been through the process of “vetting” prospective cabinet members, I can tell you it’s time-consuming, detailed, and thorough. I’d like to think the vetting of a vice presidential nominee would be more so – especially one whose odds of becoming president, should she be elected, are somewhat higher than that of the normal vice president......

Corporations and the Conventions

At the Democratic convention last week, I kept bumping into two different kinds of corporate professionals. Most have headed over to the Republican convention this week. One type says its job is "public affairs;" the other, "government affairs." They sound similar but the jobs are quite different......

McCain, Palin, and the Important Difference Between Boldness and Riskiness

At this perilous juncture, America needs boldness. But it does not need to take unnecessary risks. The distinction between boldness and riskiness is critical, as evidenced by the events of the last two days......

Sarah Palin
No Direct Attack from Clinton on Palin -- Yet
By Anne E. Kornblut
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday night put out just her second statement mentioning Gov. Sarah Palin -- but continued to hold back from the harshest attacks.

"The two party conventions showcased vastly different directions for our country. Senator Obama and Senator Biden offered the new ideas and positive change America needs and deserves after eight years of failed Republican leadership. Senator McCain and Governor Palin do not," Clinton said.

"After listening to all the speeches this week, I heard nothing that suggests the Republicans are ready to fix the economy for middle class families, provide quality affordable health care for all Americans, guarantee equal pay for equal work for women, restore our nation's leadership in a complex world or tackle the myriad of challenges our country faces. So, to slightly amend my comments from Denver: NO WAY, NO HOW, NO McCAIN-PALIN."

Clinton has been exceptionally quiet since the selection of just the second female vice presidential nominee in history. With some of her supporters anxiously hoping Clinton will step up to push Palin back, she is scheduled to make stops in central Florida on Monday on Sen. Barack Obama's behalf. But the trip is not, according to people in both camps, designed as a direct response to Palin. An Obama aide said the trip was "in the works for weeks" and two Clinton advisers said she will continue to focus on issues, such as the economy.

If Clinton does elaborate on her Palin remarks -- either this weekend, when she also has public appearances, or on Monday -- it will be to make a larger point about McCain, not to burrow down into a debate over feminism, sexism or women in politics, advisers said.

Thanks for that Salon website on the previous page.

It also included this!! Clinton's remarks about Palin and McCain!!

Clinton: "No way, no how, no McCain-Palin"

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- When it came time for Democrats to officially respond to John McCain's speech at the Republican convention Thursday night, the task didn't fall to Barack Obama or even Joe Biden, who'll likely get called upon often to fill the attack dog role for his ticket. Instead, they turned to a figure from the recent past: Hillary Clinton. Her full statement is below.

The two party conventions showcased vastly different directions for our country. Senator Obama and Senator Biden offered the new ideas and positive change America needs and deserves after eight years of failed Republican leadership. Senator McCain and Governor Palin did not.

After listening to all of the speeches this week, I heard nothing that suggests the Republicans are ready to fix the economy for middle class families, provide quality affordable health care for all Americans, guarantee equal pay for equal work for women, restore our nation's leadership in a complex world or tackle the myriad of challenges our country faces.

So, to slightly amend my comments from Denver: NO WAY, NO HOW, NO McCAIN-PALIN.

Update: The Obama campaign has now put out a statement of its own. Attributed to spokesman Bill Burton, it reads:

Tonight, John McCain said that his party was elected to change Washington, but that they let Washington change them. He's right. He admonished the 'old, do-nothing crowd' in Washington, but ignored the fact that he's been part of that crowd for twenty-six years, opposing solutions on health care, energy, and education. He talked about bipartisanship, but didn't mention that he's been a Bush partisan 90% of the time, that he's run a Karl Rove campaign, and that he wants to continue this President's disastrous economic and foreign policies for another four years. With John McCain, it's more of the same.

That's not the change Americans need. Barack Obama has taken on the special interests and the lobbyists in Illinois and in Washington, and he's won. As President, he'll cut taxes for 95% of all working families, provide affordable health care to every American, end the tax breaks for companies that ship our jobs overseas, and eliminate the oil we import from the Middle East in ten years.

I had to LMA last evening as I was in a checkout line at the store, and there in front of me, was the US magazine with glaring photo of her and all the bad stories about her, as well as the National Enquirer, which I don't buy, but lots of other people buy or else stand there and read. The Enquirer had a photo of her holding her downs child. It is the first time I have seen her even touch the child! I wonder who if anybody has been bonding with the poor thing. I started glimpsing through the mag, and it was saying how because she is always away with her career, that Bristol in particular has been out of control, according to neighbors and friends up there!

It all made me smile!

And it is a shame that those Protestors last night were not paid more attention to. they did throw the old man for a loop at the beginning though, I understand. My sister called me to ask if I was watching, as she was jumping up and down with joy!

Al Franken was on the Stephanie Miller show this morning. He is running for Senate in Minnesota. When he is elected, the first thing he will do is introduce a jobs program. He said that the a jobs program would put money in people's pockets which they would spend, pay taxes and generally stimulate the economy. His program would concentrate on infrastructure work like roads, bridges, sewer and water plants, etc.

During my working career the Democrats have had jobs programs every time there is a recession to turn around the economy, and it works. The repukes don't agree. You may remember Job Corps, CCC, etc. They good programs.

Just watching as I skipped through the channels, the faces of those on the floor was enough to fill me with disbelief. There is not one of them that have a pot to piss in, yet they bought into the Republican lies, that there taxes will be lower under this idiot who wants us in Iraq for the next 100 years, who wants to go bomb Iran, and who is trying to provoke Russia into a new Cold War. How stupid can these people be?

Also, the majority of the American people believe in Women's choice, so the day they think that any judge or church group is going to take that right away, is the day the march on Washington takes place and it will not be a pretty sight!

McCain: The 25-Year Washington Insider Comically Running as the Washington Outsider

The Republican convention is finally over. Thankfully, my large-screen TV's still in-tact despite three nights of me throwing my enraged liberal Birkenstocks at it. The whole event was a freak-show of deception, scripted by the duplicitous campaign chief Steve Schmidt and GOP operative Karl Rove and executed by a shameless parade of disingenuous conservative liars.

The biggest liar of all is the party's nominee, Sen. John McCain, who is desperately trying to portray himself as the Washington "outsider" and the candidate of change. In fact, listening to the Republicans this week would lead one to believe that it's been the Democrats, not them, who's been running Washington these past eight years. The NY Times wrote Friday that:

"The nominee’s friend described him as a "restless reformer who will clean up Washington." His defeated rival described him going to the capital to "drain that swamp." His running mate described their mission as "change, the goal we share." And that was at the incumbent party’s convention."

OMG...

The much-noted green background behind John McCain during part of his speech was in fact the verdant lawn in front of an imposing edifice, as you can see in this wide shot. One of McCain's many dwellings? No, it turns out it's the Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, California.

What, you ask, was it doing as a backdrop for McCain's speech? No one seems to know for certain, but the current speculation making the rounds is that someone on the McCain team intended for him to be standing in front of a projection of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, which would make a great deal more sense, but goofed and grabbed this photo instead. (Alternatively, the McCain camp may be addicted to that particular electric green and the middle school's lawn provided the best example they could find that was not on a 60s-era album cover.)

TPM is on the case and trying to confirm.

After listening to the Republicans for the past few days, I finally came to a realization - They only talk to the rich.

If you are a rich person and listen to what they are tell you, then everything makes sense and the facts fit.

McCain Acceptance Speech.
"All you ever asked of government is to stand on your side, not in your way."

-Under Bush/McCain, government has got out of the way for the morgage companies and people are losing their homes, while standing by the side the CEO's and stockholders making millions.

-Under Bush/McCain, government has got out of the way of the oil companies and gas prices have risen from $1.78 per gallon to over $4, while standing by the side of the oil companies and the CEO that have made Billions.

-Under Bush/McCain, government has got out of the way of companies shipping jobs overseas and the Americans have lost jobs while standing by the side of the CEO's and big corporations that have made Millions.

-Under Bush/McCain, government has got out of the way of inspecting goods arriving at our shores while the American people have eaten tainted food and children have played with led painted toys, while again standing by the side of CEO's and big corporation that made millions.

-For decades the Republicans and Bush/McCain have worked to have government get out of the way of the environment, while ice caps melt and storms intensified, while standing by the sides of the big polluters to ensure they make millions.

That list goes on and on....

"We believe in low taxes; spending discipline, and open markets. We believe in rewarding hard work and risk takers and letting people keep the fruits of their labor."

-low taxes for the rich and big corporations.

-spending discipline to keep workers wages low and CEO's can make millions.

-open markets so big corporations can take advantages to eliminate the competition and buy out small businesses. ie, farm industry is now mainly corporations, ie, walmart replaced corner grocers, etc.

-rewarding hard work with longer hours and smaller paychecks.

-risk takers with baleouts when the risk fails. ie, morgage companies, Savings and Loans, etc.

-letting people keep the fruits of their labor but you have to labor more for less fruit, unless your rich.

I agree with Obama - ENOUGH!!!!

I could go line by line through McCain's speech like this but there are not enough hours in the day to show every issue they error on.

Enjoy!

I know we are all Democrats here, but don’t you all think that this thing where McCain is calling himself the maverick but is still going along with the GOP’s pretense about the Iraq war is as scary as Palin even having the ‘slimmest chance’ in Hades of becoming president?

(Well, you know, I am not so sure Democrats wouldn’t have a harder time ‘trying to lose’ the election than trying to win it this time, but I would like to think that the country could ‘somehow’ be rationally secure if someone other than Barack Obama ‘might’ win.)

I mean, I was reminded of the same old Bush tactics when McCain loudly over-proclaimed in his speech last night that the surge had worked. As though any of yesterday’s achievement's in Iraq were the only answer to our problems with Iraq tomorrow anyway?

Sometimes I question if Bush and the GOP sent the surge in Iraq in after reports of Iraqi violence coming down when the sects were finding agreements for their oil revenue to make it ‘look’ like the Bush Administration’s war had a part in the violence coming down? I guess it doesn’t matter anyway because I know Obama will win and we will finally be out of Iraq where we don’t have to think about these political games where people die anymore!

I really trust Joe Biden with his thirty-three years in the Senate Foreign Relation’s Committee to know what needs to be done and ‘can’ be done about this mess in Iraq. I also trust Barack Obama to at least listen to Joe Biden’s advice while making his decisions about Iraq. How could Palin ever advise McCain on such issues like Iraq unless, like Bush, he’s already made up his mind that he’s not going to listen to anybody else?

That RNC Convention was nothing more than an Attack against Obama. Nothing positive to say about McCain, so they have to try and take down the opponent instead!

What a group of hate filled people!

The Anti-Obama Hate-Fest»
by: Robert Parry, Consortium News

In his speech Thursday night, Senator John McCain continued the Republican Convention's theme of stretching the truth about Obama. (Photo: Chris Gardner / Getty Images)
The Republican Party, which has defined modern-day negative politics, was back at it again, bashing Barack Obama and the news media in an ugly display that rivaled the old days of Nixon-Agnew - or George W. Bush's last convention where GOP operatives passed out "Purple Heart Band-Aids" to mock John Kerry's war wounds.

After a slow start because of Hurricane Gustav, the convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, has turned into an anti-Obama hate-fest with a nearly all-white gathering laughing at and mocking the nation's first African-American presidential nominee of a major party.

However, beyond the pulsating contempt visible on the faces of the GOP delegates, many of the nasty attacks on Obama - as well as the effusive praise for the Republican ticket - were blatantly false, as if testing the depths of American gullibility and bigotry.

McCains speech sucked. There were so many things he said that congered up bad images.

Palin was the queen of receiving earmarks, he said he will expose those who want earmarks

He called people to work to make america a better place, I think he meant community organizing, for which palin just insulted the night before

Then he talked about the many comforts he enjoys in america - like seven houses

Then he says the GOP is corrupt, pretty much I have been corrupt, but trust me and I will change it. - Um, if you believe that I've got some oceanfront property in Kentucy I'd like to sell ya.

Let's just pray that there are more intelligent people in the US than dumb ones.

Mc Cain's Mental Health Records:
Since John McCain has admitted to wanting to commit suicide as a result of being a POW for 5 years should we not demand his mental health records? Does he not act like someone with PTSD with a bad temper and a warmongering "I will get even" attitude. Pretty scary thought when you consider he will have his finger on the button if he gets elected!

LOL! It most certainly NOT Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The medical center is mostly red brick with white trim, and doesn't have room for a long front walk with flower pots on its crowded campus. Of course, after 8 years of Bushiato neglect, it probably would have been embarrassing to show a photo of it anyway, they'd have had to dig up something from the archives.

You know, the Sisterhood of Women to each other, to their daughters, their Mothers, Sisters, all other females is very strong and very Smart!

Dem poll: Most US women voters 'unimpressed' by McCain's VP pick

WASHINGTON - Most US women are unimpressed by Republican John McCain's choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, and have thrown their weight behind the Democratic ticket in the race for the White House, a national poll showed Wednesday.

Six in 10 women voters see McCain's choice of a female running mate as a calculated political decision rather than one based on Palin's experience and qualities, showed the poll conducted by the Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group

Women voters see the choice of Governor Palin as being driven by politics rather than by any sense of conviction on Senator McCain's part that she has the experience and qualities to make a good vice president," the research group said in a statement.

A majority of the 800 women polled -- 56 percent -- said they were put off by Palin's legislative record and her position on moral issues, such as abortion.

"When women voters learn that Palin opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest, opposes stem cell research and, as governor, opposed funding for state pre-kindergarten programs... a majority say... (they) feel less favorable toward her," the poll showed.

HAH! McLame couldn't draw flies to his lie fest but right across the river Ron Paul was packing them in.

10,000 people for Paul compared to a sea of empty seats for McNuts.

My convention is bigger than your convention

Sept. 3, 2008 | MINNEAPOLIS -- If you were in the Twin Cities on Tuesday, you could be forgiven for thinking that Republicans had to come to Minnesota to nominate Ron Paul instead of John McCain. At St. Paul's Xcel Center, where the real Republican convention is being held, a substantial number of seats remained empty. Next door in Minneapolis, however, a wildly enthusiastic crowd came close to filling the Target Center, capacity 10,000, where the Paul-ist faithful had gathered for their own quasi-convention to pay tribute to the Texas congressman, failed GOP presidential candidate and Libertarian hero.

Anyway, he was going on and on about Cindy McCain and what a bimbo she is saying the whats her name has experience because she lives just miles from Russia. Then he brought up the 6 colleges whats her name went to.

My question is why and what were the colleges...anyone know?

How long will it be before the press get to finally ask her questions about her past and her views? 8 days and counting.

ANOTHER LIE from Caribou Barbie! She never sold that jet on e-Bay! It was auctioned off by a private company.

eBay Jet Sale? Didn't Happen

After going unsold for months, the jet was put into the hands of Turbo North Aviation, an Anchorage aircraft broker, which put an asking price of $2.45 million on the nearly $2.7 million jet. It quickly sold to Alaska businessman Larry Reynolds for $2.1 million ($31,000 of which went to Turbo Aviation). Today the Westwind II jet spends its days ushering wealthy hunters around Alaska and Russia.

Details, details. Why does she feel the need to gussy up her microscopically thin resume with easily checked BS? Even the part about being "Miss Congeniality" was pure BS.

Just so I can understand liberal "logic"; explain to me 1) how Kennedy can murder a young woman and be re-elected 25 times as a Democratic senator, SAME WAY LAURA BUSH KILLED HER BOYFRIEND WITH HER CAR, IT'S CALLED ACCIDENT FOR A REASON 2) how Robert Byrd can serve as a kleagle in the KKK and be the Democrats longest sitting senator HE CAN CHANGE HIS MIND, SAME WAY THAT MCCAIN HAS ON ABOUT 20 DIFFERENT THINGS 3) if a teenage kid of a Republican gets caught doing what virtually all teenagers have done - somehow her mother’s character, values, and ability to govern is called into question. AH, BUT NOT IF THE OTHER CHILDREN'S MOTHER HAS BEEN THE POSTER GIRL FOR MORAL FAMILY VALUES !!

Is this the same "logic” that calls GWB a war monger when it seemed perfectly fine that Truman incinerated 300,000 civilians in an instant (Remember that liberal credo "the end does not justify the means") while Kennedy and Johnson killed millions in Vietnam? BETCHA OLD MAN, THAT YOU WERE ONE OF THE ONES JUMPING UP AND DOWN NOT ONLY FOR THOSE 300,000 FRYING PEOPLE, BECAUSE THEY DID SOMETHING TO THE USA. IRAQIS DID NOTHING, ABOSOLUTLY NOTHING.

Is this the same “logic” that caused Obama to pick Biden who received less than 900 votes and was the first candidate to drop out the Democratic primaries yet walk away from Hillary who had 18,000,000 votes? DUH, WHAT PART OF THE 900 VOTES WERE FOR HIM TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT, NOT VICE PRESIDENT??? WERE YOU HOPING FOR HILLARY?

Is this the same “logic” that required the networks to run stories and air the photos of the underwear laden prisoners at Abu grab 100 times more than the stories regarding the decapitated civilian prisoners of Al Qaeda?EXACTLY HOW MANY DECAPS DID WE HAVE ANYWAYS? MAYBE 3? AND SCENES OF MURDER ARE OBJECTIONAL TO MOST AMERICANS BECAUSE OF THEIR CHILDREN. YET US TROOPS AT THE SUGGESTION OF THEIR COMMANDERS THOUGHT THEY COULD TORTURE AND SUBJECT IRAQIS TO ANY FORM OF HUMILIATION

Is this the same "logic" that says “we must keep people from developing the wilderness so only I can use them when I camp and hike”? UHHH, NO, BUT IT SURE IS NICE THAT THE ANIMAL SPECIES HAVE A PLACE TO SURVIVE. NOT THAT THE POLAR BEARS AND ARCTIC ANIMALS WILL HAVE IT MUCH LONGER

Is this the same "logic" that says we must do everything we can to save some obscure snail that nobody has ever or will ever see but it's perfectly fine to suck the brains out of unborn children in an effort to kill them and call it an a abortion? THIS IS EXTREMELY RARE AND USED TO SAVE THE MOTHER'S LIFE. ESPECIALLY IF THE MOTHER HAS OTHER CHILDREN TO LEAVE BEHIND ! HOPE THIS HAPPENS TO YOUR DAUGHTER, SO YOU CAN GET A CHOICE

Is this the same “logic” that says abstinence only sex education doesn’t work when virtually every girl who becomes pregnant had been taught endlessly about birth control meaning that that isn’t working either but you never seem to mention that in all your rants? IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, PALINS DAUGHTER WAS TAUGHT ABSTINECE, NOT BIRTH CONTROL.

Is this the same “logic” that says liberalism is about individual freedom and the uncensored expression of one’s beliefs in an effort to make the country a better place but conservatives are ridiculed for practicing their own form of religion, expressing their opinions towards public education, the war, welfare, the death penalty, abortion, etc, etc, etc? ONLY WHEN CONSERVATIVES TRY AND MAKE LAWS TO FORCE THEIR VIEWS DOWN PTHERS THROATS

Is this the same “logic” that says health care is biased towards men yet men live on average 7 years less than woman? AHHHH, HOW NANT RX OF VIAGRA HAVE YOU GOTTEN WHILE THE HEALTH PLAN DOES NOT COVER BIRTH CONTROL, INCLUDING MORNING AFTER PILL

Is this the same “logic” that espouses redistribution of wealth but never seems to get around to addressing investment of time, commitment of money, risk of losing everything, or endless liability?
I DONT RECALL ANYONE SAYING REDISTRIBUTE, JUST TAX FAIRLY

Is this the same “logic” that demanded we not quarantine AIDS victims when the virus was first exposed in the early 80”s because it would be a violation of human rights, so instead 10’s of millions of additional people have been killed by the virus? GEEE, I MUST HAVE MISSED SOMETHING. WASNT REAGAN PRESIDENT 1981 - 1989?

Being "inside the beltway" is not a vice. There's no reason to hold it against McCain that he's been inside it since 1982 (though it is perfectly legitimate to ask what he has done there). Neither is being a member of an elite a vice, or a sign of being "out of touch." Thomas Jefferson and FDR were part of the "eastern elite," among many others. And Harry Truman, whose name Sarah Palin invoked, didn't dismiss people with contempt because they couldn't point to humble beginnings, or because they were educated at prestigious universities.

Sarah Palin is taking a "Timeout" -- to begin "the education of Sarah Palin"

She is going to make a few campaign stpos with Grampy Grumpy, but NOT take questions as she wends hwe way back to AK...

After that, Palin was expected to break from the trail to return to Alaska and see off her oldest son, Track, 19, who is deploying to Iraq with his Army unit on Sept. 12.

Pshaw!

(From Joe Sudbay:)

Be real. It's mostly to duck the national media. Sarah is NOT allowed to talk to the press (except FOX, Rush, probably the Moonie Times). After all, Palin is only running for vice president of the United States -- one heartbeat away from the presidency. Why does the media insist on talking to her? Be interesting to see just how long the McCain campaign can keep her sequestered.

Try this:

Is this the same “logic” that espouses redistribution of wealth but never seems to get around to addressing investment of time, commitment of money, risk of losing everything, or endless liability? Yes, it is that logic, and it does address invetment of time, yada, yada. It also addresses the fact that those who make the most money also use the most resources from our common infrastructure, thereby necessitating them to pay a higher share toward maintaining that infrastructure. It also addresses the fact that those people are not making that money without the investment of time and effort by their employees, who at this moment, make something on the order of 100 to 200% less than the heads of those companies. Those heads are NOT investing 100 to 200% more effort into their work, so therefore, they are gaining unearned money. I could go on, but it wouldn't matter to you anyway, you'll just call me names and say I'm dopey or somesuch nonsense.

As for the other point, quarantines are for people who would spread a contagion just by being in the same room with another person. We already knew that the disease was not spread by casual contact, therefore quarantining would have been an unlawful restriction...sort of like imprisoning someone for thinking, or thinking that they MIGHT be thinking. I could go on, but again, what use?

I mean that for the original poster if he/she is ever back, Pam, not for you.

Now, back to work for me. Lunch time is almmost over. See y'all tonight, maybe.

Savage book sales surpass Pelosi project 'Psychological Nudity' features tales from radio host's life and adventures Posted: September 02, 2008 9:52 pm Eastern

© 2008 WorldNetDaily

Radio host Michael Savage's new autobiography, self-published and available on the MichaelSavage.com website, has surpassed the sales of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's recent publication, "Know Your Power: A Message to America's Daughters," officials report.

Savage, who has authored other books including "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder," "The Enemy Within" and "The Savage Nation, has released "Psychological Nudity: Savage Radio Stories" on his website.

Officials for Savage's radio show, which is heard by an estimated 8-10 million listeners weekly, confirmed to WND that publicly available sales totals for Pelosi's book after one week were about 2,300, and while they wanted to withhold exact numbers, sales of "Psychological Nudity" had surpassed that significantly in its first week.

"I put it on ebay"

Really Sarah? Is that the whole truth?

Sarah Palin, in her speech, told a carefully stated -- but accurate -- story of putting a state-owned jet up for sale on eBay.

Palin did not, as the ADN reported at the time, succeed in selling it on eBay; she tried and failed.

She didn't actually claim to have though:

While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor's office that I didn't believe our citizens should have to pay for.

That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay.

And she did put it on eBay, which seems like a good piece of symbolism and a clever stunt, even if she wound up selling it through more traditional channels.

But McCain, retelling the story, misstated it today:

"You know what i enjoyed the most? She took the luxury jet that was acquired by her predecessor and sold it on eBay -- made a profit," he said, introducing Palin.

Well, no. And the state sold it at a loss of half a million dollars."

Senate Dems to force McCain to show his true colors:

Democrats have hammered Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) this summer over his vote against legislation pushing equal pay for women and men. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act will get a second act in September, as Democrats seek to remind voters that McCain opposed it, according to an e-mail from the Democratic Senate message center. It lists "[e]qual pay legislation" as among the issues the Senate will take up in September.

BIG DILEMMA: OPRAH BALKS AT HOSTING SARAH PALIN; STAFF DIVIDED
Fri Sep 05 2008 08:55:46 ET

Oprah Winfrey may have introduced Democrat Barack Obama to the women of America -- but the talkshow queen is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket!

Oprah's staff is sharply divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

"Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on," an insider explains. "Oprah's website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama."

One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!

It is not clear if Oprah has softened her position after watching Palin's historic convention speech.

Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography.

Oprah and executive producer Sheri Salata, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Obama's campaign, refused requests for comment.

79
Sally-* on September 5, 2008 at 03:29 PM

Why would the Republicans spend a whole night of their convention attacking ordinary people?

With the nation watching, the Republicans mocked, dismissed, and actually laughed out loud at Americans who engage in community service and organizing.

Our convention was different. We gave the stage to everyday Americans who hunger for change and stepped up to make phone calls, knock on doors, and raise money in small amounts in their communities.

You may have missed it, but we also showed the country a video with the faces and voices of those organizers, volunteers, and donors from every corner of the country.

What you didn't hear from the Republicans at their convention is a single new idea about how to make the healthcare system work, get our economy moving for the middle class, or improve education.

Just attacks -- on me, and on you.

But what the McCain attack squad doesn't understand is that people like you -- who devote part of their busy lives to organizing and building their communities -- have the power to change this country.

With your help, that's exactly what we're going to do.

Thank you,

Barack

The surprising dominance of American politics by right-wing politicians whose core beliefs are often wildly at odds with the opinions of the majority of Americans has resulted from the careful building of a coalition of interests that have little in common with each other besides a desire for power devoted to the achievement of a narrow agenda. The two most important blocks of this coalition are the economic royalists, those corporate leaders and high net worth families with vast fortunes at their disposal who are primarily interested in an economic agenda that eliminates as much of their own taxation as possible, and an agenda that removes regulatory obstacles and competition in the marketplace. They provide the bulk of the resources that have financed the now extensive network of foundations, think tanks, political action committees, media companies and front groups capable of simulating grassroots activism. http://pol.moveon.org/gore5/

AP-Mohammed makes it clear that the tribal chiefs have lost all faith in both their own government and the foreign soldiers in their country.

Such disillusionment is widespread in Afghanistan, feeding an insurgency that has killed 195 foreign soldiers so far this year, 105 of them Americans.

On top of all this the PEOPLE of Ukraine, Poland, Slovak Republic and no telling how many other Eastern European countries are everwhelmingly against our interference in their countries.

Why don't we send bush and cheney to the Hague?
Why don't they back off and mind their own busniness?

God, I am sick of these two slimeballs.

Yes, that was quite a barn burner Grampy Grumpy did last nght. Even the CNN talking heads couldn't contain their enthusiasm.

Jeffrey Toobin: I’m not gonna lie, McCain was “shockingly bad”

There were reports of some of the reporters in the press section actually falling asleep during it.

Who was the elderly woman that called Palin...Sarah Pawlenty at the repub convention? Wishful thinking?

Oh...and even though the ''bridge to nowhere was scrapped...Palin did not return the earmarked pork.

Thanks but no thanks, indeed. She was for it when she ran...but when the political winds changed, she was against it.

Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on September 5, 2008 at 05:24 PM

I missed that one. No way the RNC Co-Chair called Palin, Sara Pawlenty. Did you see John McCain when he went to say her name, at the end, and said the p sound and then stopped for about 5 seconds and then said Gov. Sara Palin? They can't remember her name because they have no idea who she is. They know one thing though, she will do anything Rove tells her to. I bet she will during the election, but god forbid this woman gets elected, because we have no idea what she would do.

More like she won't do ANYTHING. Probably including the debate against Biden, too.

McCain Campaign Plans To Keep Palin Away From The Press (video)

SCARBOROUGH: Yesterday Nicolle Wallace suggested that she was sitting right there and told Jay Carney of Time magazine ‘Sarah Palin doesn’t have to talk to you, she doesn’t’ have to talk to the press.’ … Can we expect Sarah Palin on Meet the Press and other one on one interviews throughout the course of this campaign?

DAVIS: We’re going to do whatever we think is the best to win. We have 60 days left and if we think it’s a good idea to go out there and do those shows, we’ll do them.

SCARBOROUGH: Can you avoid it? Meet the Press?

DAVIS: We can afford anything we want to do. … We’re going to do what we think is in our best interest. If that means access to the press, we’ll give it to you.

(Bold in original)

They are keeping this scandal plagued, empty headed loose cannon hidden.

Sure would be nice to know who did the vetting.

Afternoon all! There is a terrific article over on truth out by Dr. Paul Krugman. For those who do not know, Dr. Krugman is the head of Economics at Princeton University and a winner of the Clark Medal, which is the most prestigeous award given for Economics.

The Resentment Strategy
Thursday 04 September 2008

by: Paul Krugman, The New York Times

Can the super-rich former governor of Massachusetts - the son of a Fortune 500 C.E.O. who made a vast fortune in the leveraged-buyout business - really keep a straight face while denouncing "Eastern elites"?

Can the former mayor of New York City, a man who, as USA Today put it, "marched in gay pride parades, dressed up in drag and lived temporarily with a gay couple and their Shih Tzu" - that was between his second and third marriages - really get away with saying that Barack Obama doesn't think small towns are sufficiently "cosmopolitan"?

Good afternoon, all.

"John McCain doesn't run with the Washington herd," said Palin, the 44-year-old Alaska governor and surprise pick as McCain's running mate.

"It's over. It's over. It's over for the special interests," McCain promised. "We're going to start working for the people of this country."

Palin is an oil woman and most of McCain's aides are lobbyists. They are the special interests. They don't run with the herd they lead it.

SandyH on September 5, 2008 at 06:02 PM

We don't need to rush to judgement on palin and the press. We all know she doesn't know squat about the US and foriegn affairs, but they've got her a bunch of talking points to memorize. By next week she will have limited exposure. The press will not violate Rove's orders and ask pre prepared questions. If we all set the expectations to low, anything she say's will look good. I SMELL A ROVE.

As I have watched the events unfold over the past week, I couldn’t help but notice a sense of mystique in the air. After being introduced to Sarah Palin on Wednesday night, my suspicions were confirmed. Perhaps the Republicans should have held their convention in Las Vegas, isn’t that where a dazzling magic show belongs? We have John McCain the illusionist and his lovely assistant, Sarah Palin, misguiding our senses with spectacular demonstrations of slight-of-hand, err make that, slight-of-mind.

Every great magic act needs a magician who is capable of pacifying our defenses; he needs us to believe in him before he can pull off the deception. The second element is the lovely assistant, whose sparkling eyes and charming smile distract us from recognizing the trickery that’s about to take place. It’s in this moment – the all eyes on her moment – when the real ‘magic’ happens, then poof, the illusion has been completed. The audience stands and applauds, the magician has defied physics, or gravity, or just plain common sense.

John McCain wants us to forget that he’s a Republican. “I am the independent and reforming Oz, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.” The problem is the man behind the curtain has sided with George Bush over 90% of the time. The last eight years have given the good people of this country plenty of opportunities to see that this path is wrong and a 10% change simply won’t be enough to fix it. John McCain is an outstanding patriot, throw him a parade, erect a monument, but his Republican viewpoint is simply not what this country needs or should be made to tolerate.

Well, the show is almost over, time for the big finale. The magician is in position, the assistant is trying desperately to grab your attention, but wait we have already seen this trick. The unrest caused by lost chances, failed economic strategies, and a foreign policy that can only be classified as ‘playground bully’. The magician knows the audience is on to him and won’t be fooled. He attempts to improvise, to convince us that it will be new and different this time, but it’s too late. This is one reality that even David Copperfield couldn’t make vanish.

The Conservative Palinguage Guide Vols. 1 and 2
September 5th, 2008 | Posted in Talkback | Vol. 1

If you’re a minority and you’re selected for a job over more qualified candidates you’re a “token hire.”

If you’re a conservative and you’re selected for a job over more qualified candidates you’re a “game changer.”

If you live in an Urban area and you get a girl pregnant you’re a “baby daddy.”

If you’re the same in Alaska you’re a “teen father.”

Black teen pregnancies? A “crisis” in black America.

White teen pregnancies? A “blessed event.”

If you grow up in Hawaii you’re “exotic.”

Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you’re the quintessential “American story.”

If you name you kid Barack you’re “unpatriotic.”

Name your kid Track, you’re “colorful.”

If you’re a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fulling vetting the individual you’re “reckless.”

A Republican who doesn’t fully vet is a “maverick.”

If you say that for the “first time in my adult lifetime I’m really proud of my country” it makes you “unfit” to be First Lady.

If you are a registered member of a fringe political group that advocates secession that makes you “First Dude.”

A DUI from twenty years ago is “old news.”

A speech given without proper citation from twenty years ago is “relevant information.”

If you get 18 million people to vote for you in a national presidential primary, you’re a “phoney.”

Get 100,000+ people to vote you governor of the 47th most populous state in the Union, you’re “well loved.”

If you are biracial and born in a state not connected to the lower 48, America needs darn near 2 years and 3 major speeches to “get to know you.”

If you’re white and from a state not connected to the lower 48, America needs 36 minutes and 38 seconds worth of an acceptance speech to know you’re “one of us.”

If you give your wife a dap on stage, it’s actually a “terrorist fist jab.”

If your daughter licks her palm so that she can slick down your youngest child’s hair on national TV it’s an “adorable moment.”

If your pastor rails against inequality in the United States of America, you’re an “extremist.”

If your pastor welcomes a sermon by a member of Jews for Jesus who preaches that the killing of Jews by terrorists is a lesson to Jews that they must convert to Christianity, you’re a “fundamentalist.”

If you’re a black man and you use a scholarship to get into college, then work your way up to being the president of the Harvard Law Review, you’re “uppity.”

If you’re a conservative and your parents pay your way to Hawaii Pacific University . . . you only have four more schools to attend over the next five years before you somehow manage to graduate (it might be five more school over the next five years. No one has yet verified whether or not Palin was actually ever registered at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. But, you know how shady people are who ever attended any kind of school in Hawaii).

If you’re 18, white, and get a 16 year old girl pregnant “life happens.”

If you’re 18, black, and impregnate a 16 year old girl, you’re a “registered sex offender.”

If you spend 18 months building a campaign around the theme of “Change,” it’s just “empty rhetoric.”

If one week before your party’s national convention you SUDDENLY make your candidacy about “Change,” that’s “red meat.”

If you’re a Democratic woman running for office and complain about sexism; you’re a whiner …among other things.

If you’re a Republican woman running for office and complain about sexism, you’re a victim and a gang of other Republican women will stand up for you with a news conference deploying the alleged sexism.

A republican politician who raises money for and embraces a corrupt senator facing 7 indictments - you are a reform minded pol taking on the system.

A democrat who buys (pays for) property at market rate from a to-be-exposed scurrilous businessman you are the anti-christ.

A republican whose pastor condemn Jews and insists they’re responsible for their own persecution - you’ll never know because it’ll never be reported.

A democrat whose pastor points out and questions the hypocrisy of American Foreign and Domestic policy - you’re church will receive bomb threats, your pastor death threats, and you’ll be subject to deep analyzing of your faith and patriotism.

If you are a liberal and your unwed daughter gets pregnant it’s “immoral”. If you are a christian it’s called “family values”.

If you spend 3 years as a community organizer growing your organization from a staff of 1 to 13 and your budget from $70,000 to $400,000, then become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new African Amerian voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, then spend nearly 8 more years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, becoming chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, then spend nearly 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of nearly 13 million people, sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you are woefully inexperienced.

If you spend 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, then spend 20 months as the governor of a state with 650,000 people, then you’ve got the most execut
