Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

Sorry Rudy

Posted by Matt Ortega on September 2, 2008 at 11:10 AM

Republicans are returning to a full schedule at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. The changes in the schedule, however, left Rudy Giuliani without a speaking spot.

President Bush will speak to delegates via a satellite hookup. Former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-TN) will give a speech [... and] the evening's featured speaker is Sen. Joe Lieberman. [...]

That means Rudy Giuliani is getting bumped from his speaking slot tonight to make room for some of the events delayed from Monday, but Davis says they are trying to reschedule Rudy for Wednesday night.

I see this as an admission that Bush has given up on finding Bin Lauden and that the War on Terror was always a publicity slogan not a serious attempt to protect our people.

If Sara Palin can't control her own daughter, how can she control a NATION. This was the biggest mess up the Repubs could have done. Poor old man, McCain is stupid if the thinks Palin can fill the shoes of Hillary Clinton. This is Pandering, PLAIN and SIMPLE. The American Woman is NOT that stupid. He should not let the PARTY dictate his views TOP to BOTTOM.

Sarah Palin's daughter is the least of my worries concerning her lack qualifications to be the VP, or even the potential VP. Sorry, McCain, she ISN'T qualified and to try to convince the nation that she is will just drag you down with her. It was either cynical or panicky, or both. Sarah Palin's got the international gravitas of a flea. Is she REALLY the best you can do? You could have picked Olympia Snowe, or Condoleeza Rice, and at least had the benefit of a substantial person and a nationally recognized name (however much I might personally disagree with them) on the bottom half of your ticket.

But if you TRULY value experience as you have repeatedly insisted while disparaging Barack Obama for his lack of it, choosing Palin just makes you look like a huge hypocrite. It's an insult to the women of America to think we're going to flock to you because you choose a woman on your ticket. Not any woman will do, and Palin absolutely will not.

She "hasn't thought about Iraq"???? Maybe she'd better start, since it has already been and will continue to be a defining issue of this campaign. For a mother who's son may be there soon, she's sure blase about him. Real mothers don't force their seventeen year-old daughters to take charge of their four month old Downs Syndrome baby with all the demands that that entails. They take care of the child THEMSELVES.

She's the one person in America--admittedly, you had to search the last frontier for her--who's even less qualified to even be a potential president than George W. Bush. But you were so eager and impatient to grab the spotlight away from Obama last Friday by blabbing your Veep pick, I hope Palin is now causing you MONUMENTAL embarrassment. It's your spotlight now, Senator. So bask in it.

Next January while you watch President Obama deliver his inaugural address, remember this week when you sank your own campaign through the sloppy vetting of your Veep. (I prefer Obama's method in picking out a Veep who could be a real partner. It speaks well for his decision making process.) But don't think of it as shooting yourself in the foot--think of it as the ultimate example of "friendly fire."
