There was a Phil Gramm sighting in Minnesota and it looks like he's back at it again, complaining about those pesky "whiners" who lost their only home to foreclosure, or saw their job shipped overseas.
"If you're sitting here today, you're not economically illiterate and you're not a whiner, so I'm not worried about who you're going to vote for,'' Gramm told supporters of McCain at a Financial Services Roundtable event in Minneapolis on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention.
Gramm, 66, stepped down as a senior adviser to McCain in July after telling the Washington Times that the U.S. is a "nation of whiners'' facing a "mental recession.''
See the Obama campaign response below:
"Today, the man who wrote John McCain's economic plan further insulted struggling Americans by suggesting that if they are not attending the Republican Convention, they are not only whiners, but economically illiterate. From the campaign whose candidate has said that we've made 'great progress' economically under George Bush and believes that the fundamentals of our economy are 'strong', that's pretty rich,” said Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor.
I don't get how someone can get a home loan that they know will increase to an amount they can't afford. I know what I can and can't afford and I know that a typical loan is better than a risky adjustable loan. ARM loans are the biggest reasons for foreclosures and the borrowers new that they would go up year by year. Because they start at 1% apr, they got greedy and thought they could beat the system. Now, they ARE whining and want tax payers to bail them out and pay for their home payments. This is ludicrous and Phil Gramm was right in saying Americans are whiners. He is just the only person with the courage to say it!
yep, suck it up. 'ol john deserves another house at taxpayer's expense, the whitehouse. and his vp pick's pregnant daughter shall marry and her husband will land a job working for the republican conglomerate at an undisclosed wage! stop whining, suck it up. Don't like it? become a republican. suck it up. a vote for mcbush is a vote for all republicans. a vote for obama is a vote for all americans. suck it up. stop whining ... or do something about it ... or suck it up.
Being a new Democrat, I am becoming even more devoted as I listen to the same old hypocritical, judgemental rhetoric of the right wing so called Christian Republicans. So now the prime example of a "soul mate" (as John McCain describes his new VP selection) in Mrs Phalin who lo and behold can shoot, gut, skin, and cook a moose for suppertime with a babe on her hip and her mouth running the state of Alaska. Give me a break!!!
All of the homeless single mothers trying to raise their children while trying to purchase a home and trying to keep a job are suppose to look up to her example? Mr. Gramm may wish to debate our own Mr Warren Buffett, if he wishes to call us economically illerate and a nation of whiners. Mr Buffett was repeated as stating in our local newpaper that his own secretary's wages are taxed higher than his own. Unless you want to be dictated to by the very rich old money in this country VOTE OBAMA/Biden! A breath of fresh air.
