Sarah Palin will be the standard case-study for political science majors for years to come.

1
StewartT on October 3, 2008 at 12:41 PM

In five weeks she has used all the gimmicks and tricks a politician could use to get herself in the national spotlight.

She has mastered political election strategy.

Unfortunately she has obviously spent little time understanding the real issues and can only appeal to those who are less educated than her.

StewartT on October 3, 2008 at 12:44 PM
Stew - I just heard a co-worker go on and on about how great Sarah was last night. I would really like to ask her what she offered to make the change that she and John are saying but I've been barred from talking politics here. They can talk but a Democrat can't.....

We really do need to take our country back!

Nice debate flow chart included...

So, I’ve been quiet thus far, but I figure it’s about time I went moose hunting. So let me start off nice and big for ya, in case there’s any doubt as to where I stand. Sarah Palin is a stupid, self important, ignorant bitch who I wouldn’t put in charge of wiping her own ass. And it’s not just that she’s dumb - which she is - it’s that she’s willfully ignorant of the facts and yet absolutely dead-bang certain that she’s right about her opinions. It’s more of this “governing from the gut” bullshit that we’ve been Chimping along with for the past eight years. I don’t know why it’s a taboo to say someone is too dumb to be President. Hell, most people don’t have the kind of mental sharpness necessary. That’s why it’s so important to pick the right person out of an entire country of potential leaders. But Sarah Palin? She’s not even worth considering. She’s fucking dumb, okay?

Last night Palin proved, with her Barbie does Jethro Bodine act, that she is not an empty suit, she is a whole empty suite!
What a phony!
She's arrogant, uncaring and willfully ignorant.
Hopefully we don't have to listen or see her ever again! McInsane should not let her out in public until after they lose the election, and only then on the promise that she goes back to Alaska and not ever return!

McCain and Palin's healthcare plan is to give a tax credit to individual for health insurance so they can purchase their own healthcare plan.

The problem is McCain and Palin want to pay for this tax credit by taxing as income anyone with a healthcare program through their employer.

McCain and Palin want to tax employed workers with healthcare programs to pay a tax credit that no one can use.

Greg - I'd love to take them to court. Jobs are drying up - I've been warned so many times - retirement might be in the works in Jan - I just don't have the will to go after them.

A few months back, I put up a political sign - an Obama sign stating that they were opening up an office here. The sign lasted about 10 minutes and it was toren down. I tacked it up on what I thought was an employee cork board. I was told that if I ever put up a political sign again, I would lose my job. The cork board, they told me was the property of the company - the employees do not have a place to put up signs - who took the sign down in the first place? Well - I think it was another girl who did - she and I have been nose to nose over the years over the political scene.... so I've learned to keep my mouth shut. They also have been warned not to talk politics but they do it anyway....

That's how it goes living in a hill billy red state...

Obama Opens Lead in Six of Seven Swing States, Two Polls Show
Wednesday 01 October 2008

Barack Obama is surging in the battleground state polls. (Photo: Getty Images)
Barack Obama's lead widened over Republican rival John McCain in key swing states, including Florida, Ohio, Nevada and Pennsylvania, propelled by his debate performance and the worsening economy, two polls showed.

The Democratic presidential nominee gained ground in seven battleground states and leads in six, according to two surveys conducted after he and McCain debated on Sept. 26 and as Congress haggled over a $700 billion plan to rescue financial markets.

The economy is the biggest drag on McCain in Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio, the three states surveyed by Quinnipiac University and the biggest electoral prizes in the group, according to Peter Brown, the assistant director for the poll.

What did I tell you guy's about Michigan some time ago??

That's right...No McCain..gone, pulling out of Michigan.

We have a double digit lead up here and I heard yesterday that Indiana was leaning blue too!!

It'll be a landslide..and I've been saying that for over a year now.

Stay tuned :)

14
Michigan_Dave on October 3, 2008 at 02:17 PM

Dave - we should be getting some numbers in later today from Indiana. I'll keep everyone posted when I hear. I too think that Clinton was right - it's going to be a landslide.

It didn't surprise me with Michigan and I think Ohio is next. Once we take Ohio - as far as I'm concerned - Indiana will go too. It's all over if that should happen...but of course - we've been so pre-conditioned to think that something will happen to screw it up...

15

Palin???

Brahahahaha...she's a new's reader. There is no intellectual brilliance and in fact, no real political expertise. She go lucky and was in the right place at the right time. There were no other options for McLosing or the republicans.

They have a great shot of the back of her in the Free Press up here.

Did y'all know that the woman has cankles? Not just ones you notice but massive cankles. Her cankles are as big as her thighs. Those are the kind of cankles you see on a female chinese weightlifter.

Who said this?

"A surge strategy will not work in Afghanistan"

According to Cankles, it was McClelland. I know Scott McClelland. He was that little dumpy guy who was the White House spokesperson.

Is he involved in the new White House and McSurge Campaign strategic plan, for Afghanistan??

Healthcare....has anyone ever wondered how long John McNinetypercent has been on Federally Funded and provided healthcare?

He grew up a military brat. So, was his healthcare provided for by the Federal Government?

And as a Senator. Does he have a private healthcare plan or does he have one that is provided by the Federal Government??

Hmmmm....And Palin? Does she have a healthcare plan for her and her brood up there, that is provided for by the government??

She looked pretty healthy, with the exception of her cankles and McCancer has probably gotten excellant care for his flesh eating disease.

Wonder if he should be dropped from the program for a pre-existing condition?

Just sayin'

This from Wed:

News: Indiana poll shows tight race with McCain, Obama
By The Associated Press – 1 day ago

THE POLL: A South Bend Tribune/WSBT poll of 600 likely voters in the presidential election in Indiana (11 electoral votes).

THE NUMBERS: John McCain 46 percent, Barack Obama 45 percent.

OF INTEREST: The results mirror those of other recent Indiana polls that showed the presidential race tight or McCain with a slight lead. Obama's campaign has said the state is in play despite its history as a Republican stronghold

17
Screwum on October 3, 2008 at 02:36 PM

Voter registration deadline in Indiana is noon on Monday. There will be a huge push this weekend from the Obama camp along with MoveOn.org. They are asking for volunteers across the state.

I think this is going to be big folks. They mean business this time in Indiana.

Keep the faith. After the next debate, it will be over.

The Republican Party and McPander, do not have a plan. There is no plan and that was painfully obvious last night. And Biden said it best and this will become the mantra from here on out.

McCain is not a maverick. There is not one single instance in his senate career, where the man has done anything for the american people that conflicted with the republican party or Dumbya. Not one!

John McCain has built a career, not as a maverick, but as a pissed off, bitter and shallow man. If he doesn't get his way, he stands in the corner and stomps his feet. He is abusive and lacks self control. That's not a maverick. That's a pain in the ass.

He's also losing and all it will take is for someone (and it will happen soon) to push his buttons and the man will lose it. It's boiling right under the surface and it will be a sight to behold, when he blows.

"Achilles Heel...check these babies out. I not only have an Achilles heel, I got achilles tendons, achilles ankles and achilles calves...I got the biggest cankles in the campaign!!"

"But I didn't let that hold me back from takin' on the oil companies, by golly. I am the Cankle Maverick and I'm goin' to washington with John McMaverick and we're gonna' beat them washington insiders up with my cankles!!"

Iran is a problem for us John. Israel has been calling the house. They say that they will give us all the money we need for our campaign if we just drop an itsy, bitsy nuklar bomb on Tehran. McBOMB ON IRAN IN THE DENVER POST

"Let’s cut off all kinds of credit to ‘em, all kinds — diplomatic, trade, you name it. Basically isolate them. Because they are in violation of solemn agreements that they entered into, concerning nuclear weapons. And so I really believe that we could have an effect on Iranian behavior."

WHAT THE IAEA HAS REPORTED....

In February 2008, the IAEA reported that all declared nuclear material remained accounted for. However, the IAEA also reported that it was working to address "alleged studies" of weaponization, based on documents provided by certain Member States, which those states claimed originated from Iran. Iran rejected the allegations as "baseless" and the documents as "fabrications."

I'm guessing the "certain member states" is us and I'm also guessing that the documents provided are pretty much along the same lines as the ones provided on the yellow cake that Saddam was trying to buy.

But in a move that has drawn UN criticism, MPs removed a clause that would have reserved seats on provincial councils for Christians and other minorities.

"The truth is that Iran's nuclear program poses not only no danger to any of its neighbors but has in fact become a source of solidarity among other countries, especially those that have lost out in the economic globalization process," Peil said, pointing to Tehran's steadfast opposition to cave in to European and US pressures.

He added only two countries in the world are worried over Iran's nuclear program -- America and Israel.

An inspection of the discrepancy between pre-election polls and Obama's ultimate support [2] reveals significant bivariate support for the hypothesized "reverse Bradley effect."

On average, Obama received three percentage points more support in the actual primaries and caucuses than he did during polling; however, he also had a strong ground campaign, and many polls do not question voters with cellphones, who are predominantly young.[47]

What happens if credit tightens instead of loosens up after this bill is signed? I'm worried that there just isn't enough real capital left in the system to cover all our expenses.

What if this is really a globalization equity problem not just a Wall Street/K Street corruption and deregulation problem?

Have the Republicans exported so much of our economy overseas that there isn't anything left on our shores to use as collateral? Could our economy be sitting on top of a hollow shell…a true banana republic?

We need to find out what the true state of affairs is. It’s time for our leadership to demand that the books be opened for review by Congress. They put together budgets and authorize funds for programs. Now that there is an acknowledged economic meltdown by the President, someone other than this administration must take an inventory and do an accurate audit.

We need to know where the money is…or isn’t.

The next president needs to know what he is up against and begin formulating policy just as soon as a winner is declared. There is no excuse for shrouding this crisis in secrecy. Open the books…now.

If the national cupboards are bear and we have little or no equity left to manipulate, that’s a whole new kind of crisis which must be faced…the sooner the better.

If credit tightens, instead of loosens, then the only alternative is to print even more money which will result in hyperinflation the likes of which makes the Carter Administation trouble with that issue look like child's play. I would strongly recommend everyone go out and buy clothes, shoes, and non-perishable food supplies. The inflation, IMHO, will begin after New Years Day.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported it yesterday, and CNN and Faux News have picked it up today.
she was found in the house bleeding from a gunshot wound as deputies came to evict her. It was unclear whether she shot herself accidentally ar tried to commit suicide.
She is currently in the Akron general Hospital.

BobVADemocratHawk on October 3, 2008 at 04:06 PM

Bob,

That's why I want those books audited. I think we have been experiencing stagflation for close to a year now.

The cost of necessities is way up. You can't find ground beef for less than $2.50 a pound on sale. It jumped by a dollar a pound in just the last three months.

The cost of houses is tanking even worse.

When I was canvassing last week, a Republican woman was lamenting that nobody would even make her a realistic offer for her parent's home. It was a great brick ranch in a super location in peak condition...and she had dropped the price three times by $80,000. The last offer she had gotten was $20,000 below that price.

Something is terribly wrong out there. Real estate doesn't drop $100K in just six months and groceries rise by a third under normal business conditions. The cost of energy had something to do with it this summer, but why is the pace accelerating now when oil has stabilized?

Bush is covering up a bigger problem and it has to stop. Voters have a right to know what we are up against before this election.

And we don't need any cutesy answers from the likes of a Governor from a state supported by oil companies. We need the truth.

43Sally-* on October 3, 2008 at 04:04 PM

You might be right about the stupid ones going for McLost and Palin

...maybe only the smart ones are putting race aside and I wouldn't be surprised if they all had cellphones and voting for Obama/Biden.

"People are finding people with common interests and common perspectives and are putting race aside," says Knapick, 22, a May graduate of Indiana University who works at a machine shop and lives with his parents in Munster, Ind.

He and his friends are among an estimated 46.3 million Americans ages 14 to 24 — the older segment of the most diverse generation in American society. (Most demographers say this "Millennial" generation began in the early 1980s, after Generation X.) These young people have friends of different races and also may date someone of another race.

This age group is more tolerant and open-minded than previous generations, according to an analysis of studies released last year by the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, part of the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy. The center focuses on ages 15 to 25.

From a journalism grad:

COURIC: What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?

PALIN: Well, let's see. There's, of course, in the great history of America rulings there have been rulings, that's never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are..those issues, again, like Roe v Wade where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know..going through the history of America, there would be others but..,

COURIC: Can you think of any?

PALIN: Well, I could think of ... of any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level. Maybe I would take issue with. But you know, as mayor, and then as governor and even as a Vice President, if I'm so privileged to serve, wouldn't be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today.

Couric: But he's been in Congress for 26 years. He's been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more.

Palin: He's also known as the maverick though, taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he's been talking about - the need to reform government.

Couric: But can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you've said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this?

Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.

Couric: I'm just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.

Palin: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.

COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? Allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy? Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

PALIN: That’s why I say, I like ever American I’m speaking with were ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the tax payers looking to bailout.

But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy– Helping the — Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. Shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americas.

And trade we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive scary thing. But 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. ALl those things under the umbrella of job creation.

This bailout is a part of that.

McCain's tax cuts would help those with very high incomes; Obama would offer breaks to low- and middle-income earners and increase the burden on the rich.

Archbishop Raymond Burke is an ultra conservative who tends to tread dangerously close to the Vatican directive of NOT participating in politics. While Burke is one of the extreme conservatives in the Church, I have never seen or heard anything about him saying that the Democrats were a "party of death", though it would be mainly because he knows full well that if he makes too many political statements he would be asked to"retire" from his Vatican appointment for interfering in politics.
Then Cardinal Ratzinger did issue a letter in 2004 stating that abortion and euthanasia are grave sins. HOWEVER in the text of the letter if you go to the letter, which is on the net

http://www.lifesitenews.com/2005/apr/050419a.html

You will find that at the bottom of the letter states: "When a Catholic does not share a candidate’s stand in favour of abortion and/or euthanasia, but votes for that candidate for other reasons, it is considered remote material cooperation, which can be permitted in the presence of proportionate reasons."
In other words if you vote against a "pro-life" candidate because of his/her positions which are inimical to life and human dignity such as pre-emptive war, supporting lies which cause deaths of the innocent, denying medical treatment to the needy, denying aid to victims of natural disasters, the practice of torture, etc. then it is not a grave sin and can be justified.

How confident are you that the financial bailout package approved by Congress will ease the economic crisis?

* 97273 responses

Very. All that money will ease the credit crunch and that will help the overall economy.
4.3%

Fairly. It seems that it should work, but there are many questions.
11%

Somewhat. This addresses one part of the crisis, but it doesn't address other aspects.
27%

Not at all. This will help Wall Street, but it isn't going to do anything for the rest of us.
58%

I am in the 58% crowd on this one.

Good point, Dan. However, let's look at some more numbers.

Obama 338 McCain 185 Ties 15

Electoral Vote Predictor 2004:

Kerry 238 Bush 296

Obama/Biden 264

McCain/Palin 163

Toss Up 111

Bush/Cheney 286 Kerry/Edwards 252

If the sheeple are still as hardheaded as they were in 2004, get used to saying President Barack Huseein Obama. The weekend polls will tell the tale come Monday on how well "Caribou Barbie" performed or if it even makes a difference.

But come on Dan, one American to another, do you really feel comfortable with Gov. Palin (R-AK) being one heartbeat away from the Presidency in this day and age? Especially when one of the arguements espoused by your side of the aisle last year, when mostly everyone thought Sen. Clinton (D-NY) was going to be our nominee, was that most Middle Eastern and Oriental heads of state would not respect a woman in a poisiton of authority due to their cultural beliefs.

Which is probably why Sen. Biden is the VPOTUS nominee as opposed to the POTUS nominee.

Sen. Obama's position on Clean Coal Technology is as follows:

Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology.

Carbon capture and storage technologies hold enormous potential to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as we power our economy with domestically produced and secure energy. As a U.S. Senator, Obama has worked tirelessly to ensure that clean coal technology becomes commercialized. An Obama administration will provide incentives to accelerate private sector investment in commercial scale zero‐carbon coal facilities. In order to maximize the speed with which we advance this critical technology, Barack Obama and Joe Biden will instruct DOE to enter into public private partnerships to develop 5 "first of a kind" commercial scale coal-fired plants with carbon capture and sequestration.

Pope Benedict has been encouraging Catholic bishops to speak out more openly on public policy issues to make the Church’s voice heard.

I wonder if he knows that could risk their tax-free status here?
