Go ahead OBAMA!!! I cant wait to see how he smokes McCain to the floors!!! I'm sitting here at my computer doing a project on politics and it makes me appreciate it even more, especially now that Obama is having his debate.

McCain's playing the Fannie/Freddie card - and stumbling his way through it.

6
dorsano on October 7, 2008 at 09:14 PM

Wow, buggier than usual. But, whatever keeps the trolls at bay..

McLame-o didn't answer the first 2 questions. He blew off the crashed economy and switched to "energy" and he blew off naming a Treasury Sec'y. He couldn't bring himself to say "Phil Gram".

They have him wandering around the stage like a doddering olf fool looking for the men's room. I guess they were afraid he'd fall asleep.

Where does this old fool get off telling the citizens that we probably have never heard of Fannie & Freddie? Most people have their mortgages through them.

He just goes to the "First National Bank of Cindy's Daddy's Money".

8

9

Obama knocked that one out of the park.

10

11
Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on October 7, 2008 at 09:18 PM

McNuts, answers sounds like a broken record, on the stump. That people has heard over and over and over.

12
chassie on October 7, 2008 at 09:22 PM

HAH!

McLame / Feingold. Yeah, right. He breaks that every time he uses one of the loopholes HE wrote into it.

Followed by another whopper.

13

Is that tanker the one he changed a spec on last minute and awarded the contract to a british company instead of an american company that had worked on the bit for 2 years? Or was that an aircraft?

18
newsjunkie on October 7, 2008 at 09:30 PM

What??!?!?!

McLame pushed for Airbus to get the tanker contract over Boeing, thus laying off thousands of American Union workers!

What the heck is going on with the blog? I can only see 10 comments, can't see anything that I have posted, or anything anyone has posted since 9:17PM.

21
Rob-in-Indiana on October 7, 2008 at 09:32 PM
In 2006, McCain lobbied the Bush Administration to change its procurement practices so that Airbus, along with its partner Northrop Grumman, could bid on a $35 billion U.S. Air Force contract that may eventually be worth $100 billion. Well, McCain's hard work paid off and two weeks ago, the Airbus-Northrop consortium won the contract, beating out Boeing.

As a result, thousands of jobs that would have been created and supported here in the United States will instead go overseas.

And now it turns out that John McCain's campaign team has at least three lobbyists who were hired by Airbus to help the European aerospace giant win that very same contract.

McCain, top advisers lobbied for Airbus deal that cost U.S. jobs

McCain is to change what Death Valley is to cold.

McCain's jokes are lame. I don't find the issues a laughing matter.

Obama is much more understanding of the issues.

Grampy Grumpy is running out of air. Literally. He's talking faster and gasping for air.

I really like that "He doesn't take on his Party Leadership; I do." Well, moron, the Dem Party leadership isn't wrong all the time, although YOU vote with them over 90% of the time after all the histrionics (when you even bother to show up).

Then the "I'm not too popular with the rest of my Party..." line was priceless.

He's not to popular with anyone.

OOH, OOH, "there are too many lobbyists in Washington...".

Well, dufus, fire your chief campaign staffers and lose 59 of them.

McCain was nominated during a death watch for todays GOP.

It's no longer possible for the GOP to hold together a coalition of freemarketeers, religious fundamentalists, conservatives, liberal Republicans, neo-conservatives, and independents -

McCain needed to transform the Republican party - he wasn't up to the task.

Instead, he chose Palin as VP to give the worst of this coalition the biggest voice.

65
dorsano on October 7, 2008 at 10:24 PM

Yeah, McLame, that's another reason why barack will be better than you, he can use words like "tendencies" instead of yes or no. DUH

68
dorsano on October 7, 2008 at 10:35 PM

Please remember: Less is more, Keep it simple s*****!!
There are a lot of ol regular people watching and they dont need to hear the word "fundamental" overmuch. Just speak to the people!! When you are asked if health ins should be a commodity, say Hell NO!! and say you would like Health ins to be like Canada's or Hawaii's...

Then ask the people...when they think about the last 8 years that the maverick didnt do anything really significant but run his mouth....do they really want to keep going to work watching their bosses kids get promotions??? Do they really want to keep watching in the news that the gap between Millionares and the regular people is widening....even if they pay their bills on time?? The bailout is only for the chosen few....and think about Alberto Gonzales, Cheney, and now Sarah Palin...can this country continue to afford to have people in control that think they are above the law??
I am in Michigan...it is ridiculous!! The repubs want to stress off shore drilling...and all that other stuff to make a quick buck for themselves...would you like melamine in that??? Thank you!! lets just do what China has been paid by the repubs to do...stick some melamine or some lead in it and sell it off quick...they disrespect americans....

69

Doh - goodnight, Dorsano! First time I get on in a bit. Looks like the moons are aligned properly.

Missed the beginning of the debate. Would anyone else like our candidates to actually answer the questions?! Otherwise, clearly Obama. Both seemed a bit uncomfortable - what's with the short tiny writing bench thing? I think it was a version of candidate torture.

Anyway, while I can be on here, HI EVERYONE. And I am just so proud of most of America for showing those poll numbers that are just so warm-fuzzy-making for me. And I am even more pleased to hear that these numbers significantly under-represent votes for Obama due to non-use of cell phone numbers. I have Vonage for my "land-line" even, which is not land lined, so I'm not "captured" at all, data-wise. Hopefully the surprise Obama votes can outweigh the surprise McCain vote thefts that seem inevitable.

This is a better "October surprise" than I thought...

america1st,

And where did McCain go after the debate? He shook a few hands and then left Obama to work the floor and the cameras for about half an hour. It's like he really didn't care if voters saw him mingling with the "little people" or not.

One is left wondering if he couldn't wait to run backstage to be with Lieberman. Where was the McCain communications staff? I guess he wouldn't listen to them any how.

84
SandyH on October 7, 2008 at 11:33 PM

85

mcsame's only cure for the economic woes was to renegotiate mortgages of people who can't afford the loans.

What a dimwit. That measure is in the $700 billion measure signed by the president.

He has no additional ideas on how to get us out of this mess.

I understand that the Houes has introduced a $50 billion bill similar to what Roosevelt did during the depths of the depression. It is aimed at creating jobs and improving our infrastructure.

Of course the repukes and bush have threatened to veto the bill. It's ok to bail out their rich friends but to hell with the American people.

88
Johne on October 7, 2008 at 11:37 PM

well that was interesting. first of all, the few mistakes i noticed from obama weren't even noticed by the media. second, the so called debates we're seeing are not at all real debates. they're more like question and answer sessions where the questions aren't any different from those the 'debaters' have already responded to a thousand times. third, we all know now beyond a smiggion of a doubt that mclame is REALLY old and would have totally fallen on his face had the questions required real thought. and fourth, mclame's ideas are just as old as he and that he's one old dog that ain't gonna learn any new tricks. especially the sorts of tricks that will be required to get this country out of the mess its being left with by the bushistas and their fascist corporatist buddies. obama's judgement is sound, his heart is in the right place, and he and joe biden are going to be our next democratic leaders in washington. i couldn't be happier!

89
BoilerMan on October 7, 2008 at 11:37 PM

What is interesting is that, in my new job with Alzheimer's Association, the response to a proposed bill to fund research on dementia was that "there was no money and no time to discuss this to the extent needed for this very important issue". This was a couple of weeks ago - seems kinda lame for an excuse now. urgh. too bad none of the Bank CEO's had dementia - perhaps it would have come back on the table.

90
karenMIisBLUE on October 7, 2008 at 11:38 PM

Well, it is time for "this one" to get to bed and dream of the day when "that one" takes the oath of office and protects us from domestic enemies by having all conservatives arrested for treason. Sally, we know about the trapdoor, so don't think you can hide.

I've become an addict on RealClearPolitics.com It's so lovely to click on "polls" then "electoral maps" then "no toss up states". Can we vote tomorrow? Darn, I guess that's the downside of not living in Oregon anymore. I'd already be voting if I was there - mail in ballots - such a great idea!!

Johne,

McCain not knowing I would understand. McCain's economic experts not knowing is another matter altogether. Isn't this just another Hail Mary stunt that will infuriate Republicans?

Do you think those who are being evicted believe for a minute that this will help them? That this isn't some kind of McCain scam to put more money into the hands of the lenders with them later having to foot the bill?

Beware of greedy Republicans bearing gifts.

I think Pat Buchanan is looking for a trap door tonight.

I really think Pat looks like he's about to cry. He was frantic before the debate and he's now grudgingly admitting it's hard not to like Obama?

It's sort of like Buchanan is sort of doing an eulogy for McCain in his summary tonight...talking about his finer points but writing him off at the same time. The Republicans just don't have much to work with and they know it.

Ah, now MSNBC is reporting that the National Review has written a piece already stabbing McCain in the back for not being nasty enough. The sharks are circling. Will they next suggest flipping the ticket?

Would they eat their own?

Can't you just imagine her on radio and TV selling religion and Right Wing attacks on the Clintons?

Chicago on October 8, 2008 at 12:18 AM

The McLame camp will have to go even MORE negative now. They have no other choice. They cannot win on the issues. They cannot win on judgement based on McLames support for the Iraq war. They obviously cannot win on their position on the economy. Ayers and Wright is all they have left to TRY to sell.

104

I've seen a few more names for Palin besides "Caribou Barbie" and "Milfie McMooseburger" and "Yukon Cornelia".

My favorites are TBogg's "Ellie Mae WassillaBilly" and John Cole's 2-fer for the whole Pug ticket:

"Johnny Drama and Bible Spice".

People are putting up videos of her from way back when on the YooToobz and she has NEVER had that accent or nasal twang or whatever you want to call it, and those "folksy" interjections are as phony as all git out, by cracky!

Yew betcha!

105
Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on October 8, 2008 at 12:25 AM

Obama's, intellectual capacity, is so much more supreme, compared to McNuts. McNuts can't make contact, cuz he has to constantly take notes.

106
chassie on October 8, 2008 at 12:28 AM

All else matters not. The American voters will decide. And if the polls are acurate, they will tell us tomorrow who won this debate. Is that influenced by the media coverage? That does not matter. The voters will decide and it really doesn't matter why. The vote is almost upon us. Vote for Obama.

Our guy did good. Their guy tried. And then he just walked away. Did he forget the cameras were still rolling or was he so angry that he didn't want it to show?

The GOP is probably angry, too. They aren't going to take this without firing back hard...and nasty.
So I think we need to work harder than ever to get out our vote...and look for more Independents and Undecided.

I'll catch you all tomorrow. Good night, all.

I saw McCain show his mean-spirited and scary snarl/smile, and think that he lost the debate with base incivility. "That one" is who indeed?

Obama was urbane and informed and looked far more competent than the war-mongering old codger. Winner pulling away.

The Republican Party is a shameful mess if McCain is all they have to represent.

McCain and Palin is drunken with anger and they have very little clout left with the majority of Americans.

They are using hate as a way to further their personal political agenda and even staunch conservative and life-long Republicans are having a hard time showing their faces in public.

116
StewartT on October 8, 2008 at 01:37 AM

There isn't much left for the McCain and Palin campaign to do.

117
StewartT on October 8, 2008 at 01:40 AM

McCain and Palin bet their political careers that negative campaigning would work.

Their strategy by all means energized the extreme right. But at the same time is slowly but steadily alienating moderates, independents.

The liberal left doesn't have to really do anything more than to let McCain and Palin have their rope and just watch the two hang themselves.

TomN on October 8, 2008 at 01:26 AM

I agree,
John McCain did not look too well tonight. His energy was low, his walk was stiff. He kept assuring us that he was the one that had the answers and knew how to get everything done but was empty on details. He reminded us of his service and dedication over the years but his record is just so so compared to his hype. He seemed a bit down. Obama had all the answers and did not let much slide in an objective knowledgeable manner in countering and correcting McCain's incomplete and misleading statements about him. There is so much out there now about this embarrassing mess with Palin, no wonder he did not mention her. I think there is some infighting and pressure going on now and yes, a heating up as repug insiders get that sinking feeling inside as they watch this elder tire as the path to the election steepens. Obama has the sharpness and the clarity of communication - he is strong and knows his stuff, he is coming through true as current events are revealing the facts that bear him out. As this happens the Republican candidates and their surrogates are looking more fragmented and are getting caught in more contradictions...and their factions are clashing because we have coalesced and history is on our side.

I think we are creating that landslide we need for our recovery as the Republicans see those truths, perhaps more will begin to come over to join us in creating the future we need in building a new, more accepting and egalitarian broad-based middle class of healthy happy American families and new jobs and opportunities for all here. There will be great new projects in our villages, it will be work and the pay may be a payback for awhile, but in time we will build it up as we always have and those pink slips and deeds will be in our hands again! ;D

Go Dems Go!!! We The People are Worth the Ransom They Demanded. We will work for our continued good health and our families, communities and country because We are the ones who live here and love here and We are the ones who know that there is really no place like home. Village life goes on because we need food to eat, a roof over our heads, heat in the winter, shoes, coats, haircuts, a set of wheels to get us down the road, and all kinds of things for the house and yard. Cleaning up our own yard first is where we begin. It all starts at home and works out from there into our careers in the community. It is time to roll up our sleeves...a new day is soon dawning and change is coming,

OBAMA/BIDEN 2008 THE CHANGE WE NEED.

AP gets Obama's comment about Afghanistan and Iraq flat wrong

Summary: The AP misrepresented a response given by Sen. Barack Obama during the second presidential debate, resulting in the false suggestion by the AP that Obama said he doesn't think the U.S. can face "the challenge" in Afghanistan. In fact, Obama said: "There are some things I don't understand. I don't understand how we ended up invading a country that had nothing to do with 9-11, while Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda are setting up base camps and safe havens to train terrorists to attack us."

TOM BROKAW WORKS FOR NBC.
NBC IS OWNED BY GE.
GE IS THE BIGGEST NUKE PRODUCER IN THE WORLD.

GE WILL MAKE HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS, MAYBE TRILLIONS, IF JOHN McCAIN'S PRO-NUKE ENERGY PLAN IS MADE POLICY, AND EPA HACKS ARE INSTALLED.

DO NOT EXPECT NBC TO FACT CHECK McCAIN'S CLAIM THAT NUCLEAR POWER IS THE SOLUTION TO AMERICA'S ENERGY PROBLEMS. MAJOR DISTORTION OF THE TRUTH.

McCAIN'S POINTS TO A SUB THAT WAS NUKE POWERED 30 YEARS AGO. THE TRUTH IS THAT NOT ONCE BIT OF NUKE WASTE SINCE THE MANHATTAN PROJECT IS SAFE. YES, A SUB WAS NUKE POWERED IN THE 1960's. HOWEVER, THAT SUB, AND MILLIONS OF TONS OF WASTE SINCE THE MANHATTAN PROJECT, IS NOT SAFELY STORED. BILLIONS OF DOLLARS HAVE BEEN SPENT BY THE NUKE INDUSTRY TO MAKE IT SAFE, BUT THEY HAVE NOTHING.

I'M NOT OPPOSING NUKE POWER. I'M OPPOSING McCAIN'S LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT'S NEEDED TO HAVE A COMPREHENSIVE ENERGY POLICY THAT WILL KEEP AMERICA SAFE, SECURE, AND INDEPENDENT IN THE FUTURE.

AGAIN, McCAIN IS OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY, AND HE PERPETUATES THE FAILED POLICIES OF THE PAST.

So very true. As for me, I hate NUKES, always have and always will. It is just that one screw up is so massively lethal for so long. We have to get this in proportion. There is nothing on this planet that will live as long as that stuff. It comes from another dimension and burns for thousands of years. The more one learns about it the more one gets turned off.

After our partial meltdowns here, Browns and Three Mile Island, and then abroad at Chernobyl, and all the people who have died but are not talked about...hush hush...and the fact that plutonium and strontium, etc. have a half life of 20 thou plus years...can you let me know what pipe or concrete encasing will last that long???
I'm just curious... hmmm.
Oh well, guess it's efficient to glow in the dark and have all your limbs swell up and your hair fall out...so that someone can make a profit? I may not be the brightest rocket scientist but I do know one thing, nothing human will be around.

I think I prefer Solar/Wind/Thermal and any clean renewable non-polluting energy for a blue-sky planet in the future with my ecosystem and my atmosphere in healthy balance where my crops grow and I can enjoy looking out over green hills and woods and a blue ocean.

It could get like a Martian desert here if we lose our atmosphere and our plants die and our ocean currents no longer flow and our oxygen escapes...or if our air is too poison to breathe...we already have acid rain affecting our trees back here in the rust belt...please think about it. Recycle and have a great day Dems!!!

McCain tanked again...besides his constant running back to his chair to scribble notes or reminders...he was again...mean. What was with him referring to Obama as ''that one''?? And insulting Brokaw on the sec of treasury question, as well as other times. Demanding his equal time...he sounded like a petulant child. Patting hte vet on the shoulder he looked and moved like a grandfather...albiet a creepy one. Anyone else notice that McCain scooped up his wife and left right away, after shaking only a few hands...the Obamas remained and seemed to meet everyone in the audience. Maybe McCain was afraid to meet folks who weren't solidly in his camp (sound familiar?) or maybe he figured they were no good to him once the cameras were off.

He repeated lies that have already been debunked..I guess he's still following the Bush/Cheney playbook of repeatit it over and over they may believe it's true. I laughed so hard when McCain tried to imply that Obama was responsible for the deregulations YEARS ago...with his ''cronies''...is he bordering on senility?? What he tried to blame on Obama...he conveniently forgets (or hopes the American people, you know, ''his friends'') that it all applies to HIM! So what you take away is that John McCain will look into the eyes of his 'friends' and lie. He attacked and offered in no way, how his Maverickyness will differ from the current policies of Bush/Cheney.

He looked like death warmed over everytime he ''smiled'' and tooks raspy breaths in between statements to lick his lips. Very creepy. Reminded me of the ''reverend'' from the 2nd Poltergeist movie.

Regarding Palins' recent pitbull attacks...

She is like McCain in that be careful what you want to label the opponent as, cause you got far worse in your closet.

As for the claim that Obama ''pals around with terrorists'' If she's concerned with that sort of behavior...maybe she should reign in her hubby...who supported with time and money a party founded by a man who thought that America was ''imperfect enough'' to seceede from it...violently if need be. (I won't bring up all the details of McCains' accociations with G. Gordon Liddy)

"My government is my worst enemy. I'm going to fight them with any means at hand."

Vogler's greatest moment of glory was to be his 1993 appearance before the United Nations to denounce United States "tyranny" before the entire world and to demand Alaska's freedom. The Alaska secessionist had persuaded the government of Iran to sponsor his anti-American harangue.

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

"And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

At another point, Volger advocated renouncing allegiance to the United States. In the course of denouncing Federal regulation over land, he said:

"And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska."

Nice, huh? And then, as governor...you videotape a ''good luck to ya!'' video for their annual conference!

Then go after the pastor of a church that Obama has since broken ties with and then wonder aloud how he could have remained for 20 years as a member. Oops...better make sure there are no videos though of the pastors of your church who are talking of how Jews need to be converted, and how ''the right people'' (ie...fundamental Christians) need to be in control of the economy, the government, the media. And then walk up after those statements to present yourself for a blessing from the self-proclaimed witch hunter.

Just like Palin misrepresented Regans' quote during her closing statement during the VP debate (the context of that "we'll tell them of a time when men and women were free'' speech was in regards to medicare)...McCain misrepresents what Teddy Roosevelt meant with ''speak softly and carry a big stick.'' He mean DIPLOMACY...but be ready for more and have the means to back it up.

With our military maxed out and our economy in shambles...what footing does he think we have?? We don't have the moral highground if we don't act morally.

Maybe she is only trying to appeal to the dyke crowd.

just to set the record straight, in case you have one of those crazy Republican acquaintances who sends you emails full of lies:

Fact Check: Did Obama get second-most money from Freddie and Fannie?

VERDICT: Misleading. No donations actually came from the companies. One method of measuring employee contributions does put Obama second overall, but another, for the current election cycle, shows McCain receiving significantly more

McCain/Palin are inciting mob mentality and doing nothing to curb it.

Evidence...the recent speeches in which McCain just smiles after he asks ''who is the real Obama'' and an audience member yells back ''terrorist!'' ...mission accomplished

Palin gives her ''HE doesn't see America like WE see America'' speech, and is unfazed when during her litany of WSJ quotes (really...NOW she can name a paper she's read?? lol)and an audience member shouts out ''kill him!''...and she moves on. ....mission accomplished

These two should be held up to account for the potential actions their insinuations and reckless comments may set in motion...and their unwillingness to nip it in the bud.

Pam...and McCain voted for that bill with all those ''goodies'' in it.

I like how he HAD to be there...yet all he did was work the phones...he PHONED IT IN while in town!! And then while things were still in shambles...he UNsuspended his campaign! Does he even KNOW what his priorities are?

Good news yesterday, the stock market is crashing. This morning it is crashing even further in Asia. wall street will follow right along. The talking heads say it may bottom out at 7,000 but that was the record from raygun's 1980's depression. I think this will be much worse because we have no manufacturing base left.

My 401K is most likely toast. Many retirees have lost their savings and their income and the feds will not help at all. We just have to let the free market (the bush crime family) determine our fate.

I heard some other good news yesterday. The repuke head of elections in the state of colorado dropped 1,000,000 people from the voter rolls most likely Democrats. rove is at it again.

The last of my good news is that the neocons will most likely steal this election too. you betcha.

A congressman was on the Thom Hartman show yesterday and said that while they were considering the $700 billion bill the rumor was going around that if they didn't pass it bush would declare martial law and suspend the elections. rove? or cheney? Is that why they brought back the military to attack Americans?

All I have written above is really bad news but I have to keep my chin up. There is no way in hell that we can do anything about it. We have been had by the bush crime family.

good morning campers. time to work like we're behind by ten points. contribute, phone bank, walk and talk....keep moving ahead, i can almost see sarah palin scurrying back over the rockies to her igloo from my house....

best poster i was yesterday on one of the intertubes...."hey sarah, i can see the end of your political career from my house"...

gregg on October 8, 2008 at 08:53 AM

Morning Gregg. that is a great line about Palin's political career, but I have heard Republican pundits on TV saying this is just the beginning . she is a 'rising star' in the Republican Party! That SHE is now out there, positioning herself for higher office. For instance, taking Ted Stevens Senatorial position (after all, SHE gets to name the next Senator should he have to be removed), will get her to DC where she can be involved and noticed.

I say let her. If Conservatives have not learned by now, that this Religious Zealous, this Corruption, this abuse of power has done them in, then let them rub some more salt in the wound ! Palin will do it !

Mine is chilling as we speak. What a great debate. The country is going to the shiter and we have no leader - just waiting for Obama now to take control.....oddly - all my repukican co-workers have been strangely quiet of late. Perhaps they're in their cubicles licking their wounds. I'd like to add a little salt this morning by placing my Obama/Biden bumper sticker a little higher on my wall.... there, done. They can take that and stick it up their collective asses for the 8 years I took all of their shit.

I'm glad that the polls show "that one" winning this morning. You have to wonder when Indiana and Wis will go blue. I'm thinking within a week Indiana will turn blue. Absentee voting began here yesterday, they said they were busy through out the whole day! I talked to a lady last night who voted yesterday. She said she had to stand in line and that everyone who was voting, she knew and they were all Democrats - everyone of them!!!!

As for Palin appointing someone to replace Toobz, she can appoint herself and have the Lt. Gov fill out her term. We ain't seen the last of her yet. She can look forward to a career at FOX, too.

Check out the new Obama logo:

I wish the candidate would discuss global poverty more. According to The Borgen Project:
$30 billion: Annual shortfall to end world hunger.
$540 billion: Annual U.S. Defense Budget
