See if you can wrap your mind around this! NO ONE SAID IT WAS A POLLUTENT!(Spelling) IT TRAPS THE HEAT
There! now you got it??

Wrong old squirrel faced one, greggy has said it is a pollutant right here on our blog. And you are intimating by implying that dirty air and water have something to do with global frickin warmin.
Carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere is minuscule, it constitutes 3/100ths of one percent. (nytrogen and oxygen constitute most of the atmosphere) If we doubled or tripled the amount of atmospheric CO2 it still would have no effect on the temprature.
The number one greenhouse gas is water vapor.
It is all moot though since the earth is cooling now mainly due to the suns inactivity.
There! now you got it??
THE LOVELY AND TALENTED SARAH WILL HAND PLUS BIDEN HIS POOPER!
While republicans continue to ruminate about pollution and whther God did it, there's a campaign raging across the country.
Michiganites should be blazing mad that McCain has decided to give up on their state. He thinks so little of working class Americans that he is willing to pick up stakes and move to friendlier confines. Is that a warrior or a retreatist? What happened to "Joe Six-Pac"?
Obviously, McCain's shifting positions and making a political show of the economic problems we are having have not served the republican's choice well. Too much Rove can go a long way to destroying a campaign. If they want to make this election all about character, let's have at it.
The McCain campaign, with the Palin chice to answer for, is a fraud and the American public is rising up in opposition.
Sarah should open up the debates with a good joke. I would like to suggest the following:
Oprah Winfrey, of daytime talk show fame, was arrested today for narcotics possession after a routine traffic stop.
During a body search the officer lifted up the back of her dress and found 250 lbs of crack.
American public is rising up in opposition.

It sure took long enough. I guess the Ray-gun hypnotic effect is finally wearing off of these idiots who have - like lemmings to the sea - acted against their own interests for so many years.
I posted part of this with a link earlier, but it is just so good that I had to post it again on this thread!
Let the Rich Bail Them Out
Wednesday 01 October 2008
by: Bernie Sanders, Senate Floor Speech
The Senate approved a $700 billion Wall Street bailout. Senator Bernie Sanders voted against the bill that would put Wall Street's burden on the backs of the American middle class. "The bailout package is far better than the absurd proposal originally presented to us by the Bush administration, but is still short of where we should be," Sanders said. "If a bailout is needed, if taxpayer money must be placed at risk, if we are going to bail out Wall Street, it should be those people who have caused the problem, those people who have benefited from President Bush's tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, those people who have taken advantage of deregulation who should pick up the tab, not ordinary working people."
Sanders proposed a five-year, 10 percent surtax on families with incomes of more than $1 million a year and individuals earning over $500,00 to raise $300 billion to help bankroll the bailout. Senators, however, set aside the amendment on a voice vote.
In a Senate floor speech, Sanders elaborated on the bailout bill's flaws:
This country faces many serious problems in the financial market, in the stock market, in our economy. We must act, but we must act in a way that improves the situation. We can do better than the legislation now before Congress.
This bill does not effectively address the issue of what the taxpayers of our country will actually own after they invest hundreds of billions of dollars in toxic assets. This bill does not effectively address the issue of oversight because the oversight board members have all been handpicked by the Bush administration. This bill does not effectively deal with the issue of foreclosures and addressing that very serious issue, which is impacting millions of low- and moderate-income Americans in the aggressive, effective way that we should be. This bill does not effectively deal with the issue of executive compensation and golden parachutes. Under this bill, the CEOs and the Wall Street insiders will still, with a little bit of imagination, continue to make out like bandits.
This bill does not deal at all with how we got into this crisis in the first place and the need to undo the deregulatory fervor which created trillions of dollars in complicated and unregulated financial instruments such as credit default swaps and hedge funds. This bill does not address the issue that has taken us to where we are today: the concept of too big to fail. In fact, within the last several weeks, we have sat idly by and watched gigantic financial institutions like the Bank of America swallow up other gigantic financial institutions like Countrywide and Merrill Lynch. Well, who is going to bail out the Bank of America if it begins to fail? There is not one word about the issue of too big to fail in this legislation at a time when that problem is in fact becoming even more serious.
This bill does not deal with the absurdity of having the fox guarding the hen house. Maybe I'm the only person in America who thinks so, but I have a hard time understanding why we are giving $700 billion to the secretary of the Treasury, the former CEO of Goldman Sachs, who along with other financial institutions, actually got us into this problem. Now, maybe I'm the only person in America who thinks that's a little bit weird, but that is what I think.
This bill does not address the major economic crisis we face: growing unemployment, low wages, the need to create decent-paying jobs, rebuilding our infrastructure and moving us to energy efficiency and sustainable energy.
There is one issue that is even more profound and more basic than everything else that I have mentioned, and that is if a bailout is needed, if taxpayer money must be placed at risk, whose money should it be? In other words, who should be paying for this bailout, which has been caused by the greed and recklessness of Wall Street operatives who have made billions in recent years?
The American people are bitter. They are angry and they are confused. Over the last seven and a half years, since George W. Bush has been president, 6 million Americans have slipped out of the middle class and are in poverty, and today working families are lining up at emergency food shelves in order to get the food they need to feed their families. Since President Bush has been in office, median family income for working-age families has declined by over $2,000. More than seven million Americans have lost their health insurance. Over four million have lost their pensions. Consumer debt has more than doubled. And foreclosures are the highest on record. Meanwhile, the cost of energy, food, health care, college, and other basic necessities has soared.
While the middle class has declined under President Bush's reckless economic policies, the people on top have never had it so good. For the first seven years of Bush's tenure, the wealthiest 400 individuals in our country saw a $670 billion increase in their wealth and, at the end of 2007, owned over $1.5 trillion in wealth. That is just 400 families, a $670 billion increase in wealth since Bush has been in office.
All right! Chicago is here!
Are you ready for VP debate night?
I am looking forward to it.
As you may remember, I was originally a "Biden for President" person, so I am very happy with Sen. Obama's VP pick!
WOW, "The "Great" Buffoon" has resorted to using "jokes" from the 1980's.
LAME.
Howza yer Party doin' dood?
Heck of a Campaign!
marymac_memphis on October 2, 2008 at 06:51 PM
I'll certainly second that, Mary.
Bob! I saw where Sen. Obama is pulling ahead in Virginia, so much so, that McLame-o has completely suspended his campaign in Michigan and is sending everything he had in Michigan to Virginia. Kudos to you and all the other great VA Dems who made this happen!
Holy cannoli!
Some Pug mouthpiece is now recycling that "elitist" crap by saying that "Joe Biden is an Arugula Middle Class candidate".
Has this asshole EVER looked at what is i a McDonald's salad?
Salad Mix: Iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce, baby lettuces (which may include lettuces such as baby red romaine, baby green romaine, baby red leaf, baby green leaf, baby red swiss chard, baby red oak, baby green oak, parella, lolla rosa, tango, totsoi, arugula, mizuna, frisee, and radicchio), carrots. CURRENTLY, OUR SALADS DO NOT CONTAIN SPINACH.

Sen. Biden, who mortgaged his house to put his kids through college? Sen. Biden, whose wife (DR. Biden) still teaches school every day? Sen. Biden, who - until very recently - had a one-car family? Sen. Biden whose net worth - until he authored his biography and received proceeds from that - was $150,000.00
McLame - son and grandson of Admirals (Military Royalty) and married to a multi-millionaire.
Pallin, whose net worth I saw recently was over 1 million, and re-THUGs can actually say - with a straight face - that Sen. Biden is an elitest?

Well - gotta' go. BBL - maybe after debate for a 'wrap-up!'

This is a political blog not a place to exchange recipes!
A question to you Gov. Palin.
What's more important: securing Russia's cooperation on nuclear proliferation and Iran, or supporting Georgia's NATO bid? If Vladimir Putin called you on the phone and said, "It's one or the other," what would you tell him?
Thank you. I would tell Valadimir Putin if he would call me and ask me about a choice I'd have to make between Iran and nuculear proliferation and Georgia's NATO bid, I would reply, I didn't know a state of ours could belong to NATO. Maybe I'll get back at cha....
Countdown is on - be back after the debate.
GO JOE - don't take and shit from the bimbo!

Elitist is not about money, it is about attitude. Biden is an elitist.
I've met Sen. Biden. Not only does he actually listen and respond to the people he meets, he's the best smelling man I've ever met! Since he accepted the VP nomination, I put the picture of him & me along side the one of me & Obama on my 'fridge.
When Palin starts hammering on Biden about his experience in the international and national arena, at least she has that Wasilla city council experience to fall back on, that's where she's spent something like 10 of the 12 years of her political career.

Hussein Obama spent 6 years as a community organizer for the communist party.
As soon as we see her we'll know how she will do. For those who were around 4 years ago, if her hair is down, she has an ear piece
marymac_memphis on October 2, 2008 at 07:44 PM
I iwsh I could take as much credit as you're willing to give me on this. We are working hard here in VA for Sen. Obama (D-IL). If nothing else, we're making Sen. McCain (R-AZ) spend money here for a state that has voted Republican from 1968 through 2004.
Former Governor Mark Warner (D-VA) is expected to win in a landslide over former Governor Gilmore (R-VA) for retiring Sen. John Warner's senate seat. Gov. Warner is currently polling as much as 30% ahead of Gov. Gilmore. If that happens, Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA), who defeated the notorious George "Macaca" Allen (R-VA) in 2006 by 3%, will be our senior senator.
I believe it will be close in VA. My current guess right now is Obama 49%, McCain 48%, Barr (L)1%, Nader (I) 1%, McKinney (G) and the other weirdo parties 1%. Northern VA, Richmond, Portsmouth, Norfolk, and Charlottesville and the Obama strongholds while McCain should win handily in the redneck sections of the Commonwealth.
How do things look in TN to you? I see Sen. Alexander (R-TN) has a rather large lead over Bob Tuke (D-TN). Any other insights?
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President.
The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Palin is a post turtle.'
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was.
The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle.'
The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain.
'You know she didn't get up there by herself, she doesn't belong up there, she doesn't know what to do while she is up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put her up there to begin with.
palin is such a joke and an unforgivable insult to the american people. she talks about a 'culture of life' but has zip empathy for others and absolutely no reverence, much less simple appreciation, of life and the living world, she's a total "meist". joe biden is a sensitive conscientious person who truely cares. the pugs are toast!
Sally-* on October 2, 2008 at 08:14 PM
Yeah and John McCain is the Manchurian Candidate as he was brainwashed while a POW in N. Vietnam. The Chicoms are hoping he gets elected so they can "activate" him and get the U.S. to sell out the American Dream to them, cheap. Oh wait, the enitre GOP has done that already. Never mind...
Palin's rise to the most important political position in the world:
She won her first council race by a margin of 530 to 310 votes, then on her second council race won by 413 votes (that's 117 fewer votes than her first run) to her opponent's 185 votes, for a total turnout of 598 voters. She won the mayoral job in a nonpartisan primary with help from the Republican Party which ran ads in her behalf.
One of her first mayoral acts was to demand resignation letters and resumes from top city officials to determine their intentions and whether they supported her. She eventually hired a lobbyist, a first for the city, and took in millions of earmarked money from DC, for city government, public and private entities, a transportation hub, sewer repairs and $15 Million rail line linking Wasilla with a local ski resort. The tiny town of Wasilla was left in excess of $20Million in debt at her departure.
Thankfully, term limits prevented Palin from running for a third mayoral term, in 2002.

I'm glad you pointed that out. I had almost forgotten about the device President Bush allegedly wore in 2004 where he got his answers fed into him.
And you are intimating by implying that dirty air and water have something to do with global frickin warmin.
NO, fruit face, I am saying if idiots like you encouraged the cleaning up of air and water, how much it would help TOWARDS global Warming!
And that bullshit about global cooling and the sun is just that, bullshit. You can't find ANYTHING on it, if you do it is on some old archived website , by other idiots like yourself.
Carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere is minuscule, it constitutes 3/100ths of one percent. (nytrogen and oxygen constitute most of the atmosphere) If we doubled or tripled the amount of atmospheric CO2 it still would have no effect on the temprature.
Now, let me post this one more time. This time, try and focus your itty bitty brain on what it is saying! NOWHERE does it say it has to be a Lot of co2, it says co2 is one of the gasses that trap !
The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gases in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. Without these gases, heat would escape back into space and Earth’s average temperature would be about 60ºF colder. Because of how they warm our world, these gases are referred to as greenhouse gases.
Now send this on to a 8 year old, and ask them to please explain it to you in very slow words !
Jackass !

Ba boom!
i like this piece i read at whiskey fire today:
"In the world where Glenn Reynolds's presuppositions as to truth do not pertain -- the place called Reality -- John McCain is running a horrible campaign, Sarah Palin is incoherent, and George W Bush has taken all the most cherished wingnut ideas about how things should work and mindlessly driven them to their logical conclusion: Total Humiliating F_ _ kup*."
*my censorship
My daughter wants to watch the debate with me, so I will not be blogging during it, but will come in later.
DON'T WORRY, Dems.
they were just saying on CNN, the momentum is with Obama, he has a good solid 250 electoral votes! Not even a bad showing for Biden will sway this!!! Unless something big happens between now and 30 days, this election is Obama's! so Relax !
enjoy the debate, everyone. I'm snuggling with the carpenter.

You go joe, get em. John McCain maybe wanted to do something about Fannie and Freddie, but it died in Rick Santoroms committee, while the republicans were in charge, the 109th congress, didn't want to do anything about fannie and freddie. So once again John McCain couldn't move his own people.
Oh ya go get him joe,
I hate when sara puts on that voice, her bullshitting voice.
Sarah is slamming him into the mat.
Pick up a folding chair and hit him in the face Sarah!
Palin conceeded deregulation and went back to the old "liberal taxes" - which Joe will address.
OMG! TWO shots of schnapps.
"Joe Six Pack" AND "Hockey Moms" back to back in the same sentence.
Whatever will she do when she uses up all her buzz words?
(Silly*, Michelle Martian was WAY late with that rip off of hers.)
Joe's addressing the "class warfare" meme at the same time he's clarifiy tax policy.
(I don't know why this thing isn't taking links all the time.)
Light her up, Joe! Wait for the "deer in headlights" look from Gov. Palin.
Fairness - vs "wealth redistribution" - bring it on Governor.
"Ultimate Bridge to Nowhere".
Good shot!
She's running out of Bullet Points in the first 5 minutes.
Her cliche pool is at risk of running dry early.
We don't call that redistribution we call that fairness.
John McCains healthcare plan is the ultimate bridge to nowhere
Hiding money in offshore accounts for the ppurpose tax evasion is unpatriotic.
Yep. Just like everybody said. If she can't answer a question, answer one that wasn't asked and the morons won't notice.
How did she go from the tax question to her own "energy policy expertise"? She just tossed it in and avoided the question on taxation.
Joe gets a kick out of her insults and lies. I love when he gives the big smile.
"windfall profit tax" - bummer - the governor didn't get a chance to eplain how that is different from "royalties"
On mainstreet that's affecting wallstreet, it's the other way around and she doesn't realize she misspoke.

As are oil reserves - but we're gonna "drill baby drill"
FUCK THE FUCKING ENERGY BULLSHIT YOU BIMBO!!
ANSWER THE FRIGGIN' QUESTIONS!!
What an asshole!
Well, there is one thing I can agree with Gov. Palin on, American energy independence. It is a matter of national security now more so than ever.
On to energy now - "hungry markets" - ooops, seque to climate change
Palin acts like she is running for President, instead of the old man. She's just like McNuts she like to blow her own HORN.
Hey, Climate debate.
Let's hear her talk about (OMG) ENERGY!!!!
I want to hear her take on dinosaurs and Adam & Eve, and where did all this oil "ENERGY" come from?
Civil rights? ENERGY!
She is a one note symphony.
DoPeyDoodle is losing as Sarah continues to dump all over Plugs.
This election marks the painful, grizzly death of a destructive ideology - may it rot in hell.
This is a fucking joke. Biden already lost. I'm not even bothering to listen to the rest
"drill baby drill".
I think she has the order wrong. With her and her daughter it was always "Drill! Drill! Oops, Baby!"
Holy cow, if you are watching on CNN, they have a thread hooked up to Ohio men and women watching this debate!
NOTICE HOW WOMEN GO UP FOR BIDEN, AND DOWN FOR PALIN!
OHIO WOMEN ARE SMART WOMEN!! WON'T VOTE FOR HER JUST BECAUSE SHE HAS A VAGINA!!!
Gov. Palin supports capping carbon emissions. That sucking sound you're hearing coming from across the nation is a half million votes going from Sen. McCain (R-AZ) to former Sen. Barr (L-GA).

I don't see it that way, Greg.
Civil Unions: Yes
Gay Marriage: No
Great position! I agree!
Joe, is doing a fantastic job, supporting Obama's positions, on all of the issue's. Palin is running for President make no mistake about it.
Well according to that "people meter" on CNN, Palin is flat lining on Iraq.
um - "white flag of surrender" now - and somehow the Taliban got into this one.
"White flag of surrender"? Oh, please! Al-Maliki is calling for a timeline and the Bush Administration is stalling.
I told you not to believe your own B.S. about the lovely and talented Sarah.
She is soo much better in a debate than an interview. It's just that their policies are not what middle class americans want.
Nato allies, who, all 2000 of them. Victory
She is parroting all of the same old worn out 1/2 truths that republicans use all of the time.
Obama voted against the troops. She got her little digs in, I'm glad biden didn't bit, he just flashes that wonderful, charming smile.
So Gov. Palin gives as much credit to the word of UBL as she does GEN Petraeus in regards to Iraq. Castro is a dangerous dictator? I'm sure FL is scared to death from that impending invasion. Perhaps they should recall their National Guard troops from Iraq.
Come on John do the Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran statement, I guess John McCain is unstable and dangerous.
They hate our policies, that's why they hate america. In fact the whole world is starting to hate america.
Noo Cue Lur!!
Another shot!
Ask her about that anti Jew clown she hosted at her "Church of the Snakes and the Witch Doctors and talking in tongue".
Joe just called out Caribou Barbie on her blatant lie.

I don't see it that way, Greg.Posted by dorsano on October 2, 2008 at 09:38 PM
Gee, dors, you disagree with me? What a surprise, lol! Look, she's making complete sentences. Not making TOO many gaffes, although saying we're working with the Taliban is kind fucking stupid. You want Biden to win, he needs to make her give answers like she did in the Couric and Gibson interviews.
And yeah, I can still hear it form the other room, so yes, I still am hearing her fucking annoying whine.
Hey Biden, why don't you ask her how we can have a war on an emotional response? War on terror...what fucking bullshit, and Dem politicians will just nod their fucking stupid bobbleheads and go Yup!
Btw, what has that shithold Israel done for us lately that they are such good allies?
Biden looks like the new, and palin is the old. She is parroting what republicans have been doing for 7 years. Biden is the new ideas, the new. That is really good for us.
Secretary Rice? I've heard that name twice now? Who is she again? Oh yeah, the most ineffective Secretary of State in the last forty years.

This debate is for undecided, independent voters - we'll never get an apology or admission of guilt from anyone that stood by the Bush administration.
The people deciding this election can smell BS many miles away - and Palin is worse at BSing than anyone I've ever seen.
Gov. Palin just admitted to "huge blunders" in foreign policy by this administration. Well, there is something else we can agree on.
OMG! According to the people meter Palin just killed all the men! Their line just disappeared.
OK, they are back. Probably switched over to the Cubs game or went to the fridge.
HAS ANYONE HEARD THE BIMBO ANSWER ONE SINGLE QUESTION ??? TALK ABOUT FUDGING, OR BEATING AROUND THE BUSH!!! (no pun intended)

I totally agree screw Isreal! I'm damn sicK in tired of this country.
Nothing either of them are saying is anything new. Every last word is recycled garbage argued completely within conservative frames. Biden has made nothing his own, and Palin is using the same old bullshit words that make the conservatives cum in their pants. Notice how quiet the trolls are? That's because they're having multiple orgasms right now.
Biden! It's the ideology, not the policy!

The Israeli Mossad has been responsible for gathering intelligence on Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and others. The Israelis uncovered the N. Korean-Syrian connection and destroyed it.
Israel is the only democracy, unless you want to count Iraq, in the Middle East. The United States were instrumental in the founding of Israel. That is the short answer of what "Israel has done for us lately".
Has anybody noticed how big the calves, of Palins legs are, she looks like a Moose.
And i'm not being sexist, its just a observation.
And McLame-o never bothered wearing a Flag pin at his debate.
But that must be because he was a POW and can't use his fingers, right?
Posted by GregL on October 2, 2008 at 10:01 PM
Biden ignored Palin's "love for Israel" meme - and so did Israel and I wager, most all Jews. The "conservative framing" is dead and Joe's not responding to it.
John McCain knows how to win a war, Governor? Yeah, great job he did in Vietnam.
Palin says that mcnuts knows how to win a war, How is that posible, when he was locked up from crashing airplanes?
How in Hell does McLame "know how to win a War"?
If he knows how to "win" it and is keeping it secret, THAT'S TREASON!
It's not just for undecideds, dors...one of the reasons conservatives win is they bring out their base in massive numbers. Palin is exciting their base (in many, MANY sick and perverted ways) and turnout that would have been completely shot with any other running mate. Is Biden even talking in progressive language? No, he'snot...if he was, I wouldn't be PISSED OFF, so PISSED OFF that I'd diss Israel, who while they haven't done anything FOR us, haven't really done anything TO us either.

Your not a very good observation, of women i see, you need to raise your standard. My wife is 59 years old and has prettier calves, then the moose from Alaska.
HAH!
"He is the man we need to leave, I mean lead".
If any Dem said that, the trolls would go nuts pleasuring themselves for the next 8 years.

Well, glad to hear that your wife has prettier calves than a moose from Alaska.
But it is a bad analogy, moose have thin lower legs like a horse.
Posted by GregL on October 2, 2008 at 10:09 PM one of the reasons conservatives win is they bring out their base in massive numbers. Palin is exciting their base
Well - there's nothing Palin can do (or Biden) to change that excitement - that was McCain's choice - excite the base - or excite the nation - McCain chose the former - it won't be enough to win an election.
Know doubt in my mind that from the graphs, on cnn, that women are more realistic then men. And i'm a Man.
Sally-* on October 2, 2008 at 10:10 PM
No, they died under orders from their CIC's, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford. They are the victims.
Sen. McCain did not make one single attempt at escape, in direct violation of standing orders. Furthermore, albeit under duress, he signed and made numerous statements against the U.S. government. The public record indicates that the only accomplishments of LCDR McCain is to finish fourth from the bottom of his Naval Acadmey class, to wreck a half-dozen jets, get beaten on a daily basis up by a bunch of third world Communist misfits, and parlayed that adventure into a senate seat, three wives and their respective fortunes.
Hey, Chassie - I'm sorry to hear about your son's death. I hope you and his family are OK.

Maverick, maverick, maverick...ARGH!!! Stop using their words, BIDEN!!!
Good night fellow Democrats. Keep the Faith and keep the faith. The populist revolution has begun!
GregL on October 2, 2008 at 10:27 PM ARGH!!! Stop using their words, BIDEN!!!
Palin's was at her best when she adopted Obama's themes - I don't think anyone undecided missed that.
Well, Bob, in fairness, why would he want to leave when he was given fresh sweaters and served fresh fruit and cookies and tea?
Tough questions, Governor? No, a tough question would be something in the line of a follow-up to a question like...HOW do taxes kill jobs? Seriously...was there ANY question in this that wasn't answered by a script?

Goodnight, friend - night, all.
Gee, Pat Buchanan thinks she did a fine job...wonder if he has a woody under that desk.
Thank you Dors, i hope its ok. that i call you dors. But really lets move on with the election, I'm trying very hard to put that out of mind for the time being. Although it never will, be out of my mind.
you listening to CNN? she just asked the uncommitted who they thought won, and the majoriity said BIDEN !!!!!
Joe did a great job!!! He knows what he's talking about, so do the voter's have an IQ higher than Palins?
Not answering questions, VP is not part of executive branch, and she's going to be the new energy czar. Thanks but no thanks to that bridge to big oil company profits.
Wink, wink, Did anyone tell her to flirt with the voters?
The big question is does she rally the base and do we have on the ground support to counter?

I'm heading out too. Wait up dors, I'll buy you a drink!
GregL, you are on your own, champ! :)
Remember, this debate will not sway the election , and Obama is on a roll, so keep the faith!
Tomorrow, go out and register a voter! Remember in a lot of states, Monday is the last day to do so in order to vote!
So it shall be written, Obama will be the next President of these United States Of America.
And McMoose can go back to hunting moose's, from airplanes. Maybe they'll give a moose a Auto Ma tic weapon to shoot the damn plane down.
you listening to CNN?
pamb,
just dropping in before the networks do their spin.
palin was fluff. biden was substance.
and how many times did she fill the answers w/he's a maverick. i never felt the connection if she was reaching for us middle class. biden talked from the heart, especially the part about losing a wife and shopping at lowes. palin is a wishful cheerleader. not what we need as a vice-president, or a president... we've had a cheerleader for the last 8.
biden won over, as i'm sure, more independents tonite preferred substance... we'll see shortly when polls post.
The big question is does she rally the base and do we have on the ground support to counter?
GOTV
Posted by dixiehen on October 2, 2008 at 10:50
Yes she Rally's there ground support, and A double yes we have the ground support to counter it. And we'll win. Obama beat the old establishment, and he'll beat her. He's the Master of Politics. The next Presidential debate, will put it in the basement for the old man. Is over with, enjoy your prosperity.
My sister just called, she really is giddy over biden. She said she didn't know hardly anything about him and had seen him only a couple of times. She is soo impressed and there is no comparison between palin and Biden.
I on the other hand am impressed with her performance. She had a boatload of stuff to cram for, well basically everything cause she new nothing about anything but alaska.
Evening all good Dems. Good Debate! I have a little bit of a different take on it, in that I am hearing impaired. As such, I have to learn to 'augment' what little bit of hearing that I have with lip reading and the reading of body language.
What Gov. Palin said seemed fine, word wise, but her body language came across as a little to the arrogant and condescending side. Did anyone else get that impression?
Chassie: Nice to see you this evening.
she didn't answer the questions asked
she had some outbreaks of word salad
she was quite cutesy
she doesn't seem to command many facts or examples of anything relevant to questions
he was very much on
he had a wide ranging command of all topics
his attacks on her candidate were very plausible and backed up with facts
all in all she did better than she has so far but not really well....and he was excellent.
Howard Zinn | From Empire to Democracy

Let's not waste $700 billion on a bailout, but use "big government" for what it's best at - shaping a society that is fair and peaceable.
This current financial crisis is a major way-station on the way to the collapse of the American empire. The first important sign was 9/11, with the most heavily-armed nation in the world shown to be vulnerable to a handful of hijackers.
And now, another sign: both major parties rushing to get an agreement to spend $700 billion of taxpayers' money to pour down the drain of huge financial institutions which are notable for two characteristics: incompetence and greed.
There is a much better solution to the current financial crisis. But it requires discarding what has been conventional "wisdom" for too long: that government intervention in the economy ("big government") must be avoided like the plague, because the "free market" will guide the economy towards growth and justice.
Let's face a historical truth: we have never had a "free market", we have always had government intervention in the economy, and indeed that intervention has been welcomed by the captains of finance and industry. They had no quarrel with "big government" when it served their needs.
It started way back, when the founding fathers met in Philadelphia in 1787 to draft the constitution. The first big bailout was the decision of the new government to redeem for full value the almost worthless bonds held by speculators. And this role of big government, supporting the interests of the business classes, continued all through the nation's history.
The rationale for taking $700 billion from the taxpayers to subsidise huge financial institutions is that somehow that wealth will trickle down to the people who need it. This has never worked.
The alternative is simple and powerful. Take that huge sum of money and give it directly to the people who need it. Let the government declare a moratorium on foreclosures and give aid to homeowners to help them pay off their mortgages. Create a federal jobs programme to guarantee work to people who want and need jobs and for whom "the free market" has not come through.
We have a historic and successful precedent. Roosevelt's New Deal put millions of people to work, rebuilding the nation's infrastructure, and, defying the cries of "socialism", established social security. That can be carried further, with "health security" - free health care - for all.
All that will take more than $700 billion. But the money is there. In the $600 billion for the military budget, once we decide we will no longer be a war-making nation. And in the swollen bank accounts of the super-rich, by taxing vigorously both their income and their wealth.
When the cry goes up, whether from Republicans or Democrats, that this must not be done because it is "big government", the citizenry should just laugh. And then agitate and organise on behalf of what the Declaration of Independence promised: that it is the responsibility of government to ensure the equal right of all to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".
Only such a bold approach can save the nation - not as an empire, but as a democracy.
listening to palin was actually painful, if it wasn't for her gotcha 'there you go again' reaganesk attitude and that 'come any closer and i'll bite 'cha' sneer, one might even feel sorry for her. there was absolutely no substantive thought given in any of her comments. it's as if she has a tree full of apples hanging overhead and strings together whichever apples she happens to grap...argh!!...the woman would make a better infomercial presenter than a possible president. give her a toaster and forget it.
Governor Palin, our democracy or your version of electorate manipulation?
Governor Palin, by your refusal to meet with the mainstream media, you are denying the American Public a fundemantal obligation of democracy; to provide for an informed electorate.
You do not have the right to ignore questions on topics which effect our lives, you do not have the right to refuse answers about your fundamental religious beliefs which impact oun our lives, and you do not have the right to lie about your candidate's position on a variety of legislative or national policy initiatives which impact our lives.
Good evening, all.
So Palin thinks she's already in charge?
She's not going to answer to the media, the moderator, her opponent, the next President, or even Congress. She's going to do what she pleases when it pleases her...and the public be damned if they don't agree with her?
Wow, what an imperial Fourth Branch she would reside over. Somebody get that African evangelist back and put a hex on her quick before she starts another needless war of freedom in Georgia or Iran.
Can you believe that she suggested we move our embassy to Jerusalem insuring that the rest of the Middle Eastern nations takes it out on Israel? And then for good measure, she told us that she would make over the Vice Presidency in her own image...not in the way the Constitution mandates?
Palin set out to look like she knew her stuff but instead came out like a preacher reciting scripture that she alone could interrupt. I'm flabbergasted that McCain would allow himself to be perceived as a mere Bush to her powerful Cheney.
Who could reign this woman in once she decided that it was time for the Rapture...and McCain to go?
I especially found the way she ignored Biden's emotion at the end of the debate illuminating. She jumped right over his sign of distress and jumped into her Kitten With a Whip maverick routine...without blinking as she likes to boast.
If McCain appeared arrogant in his debate by not looking at Obama, Palin proved she could one up him in appearing cold and calculating.
I'm sure it made the Republicans who were wowed by her speech at the convention happy. But for those Undecided and Independents who hadn't already had doubts about Palin, they do now. She didn't offer any answers to anything. Does the McCain camp think they were looking for another Cheney complete with mugging and winking?
Heaven help the Republican Party. They've been taken over by a bunch of maverick vampires...just in time for Halloween and the election coming right after.
She did exactly what I thought she would do and it's going to put a stake in the heart of the McCain campaign in those swing states.

Remember that old game show "Queen for a Day"?
Four women would go on TV and cry about what a horrible life they have and that their husbands were drunks who beat them and their kids were all greasers or sluts who dropped out of school and are now living a life of crime and boo-hoo and the one with the most miserable life that day would win a matching Maytag Washer / Dryer Combination!!!!!!
These women would voluntarily humiliate themselves and their families just to be on TV.
The audience would OOH ans AAH and the music would swell and the assistant bimbos would come out and lead her to her "Golden Throne" where she would be handed a "Golden Scepter" while the Host placed a crown on her head and the "Court in waiting" covered her with a purple cape.
That is what Palin reminded me of. She was SO 1950 at the same time as being the Rosie the Riveter of the 1940's personnae.
She is a miserable wretch who so wanted to be on TV she will debase herself in any way she can just to do it.
Give her a clothes line and send her home.
We can call it a "Solar Powered Dryer".
which polls sally, i want to watch them go up. are you saying gallup, rasmussen, hotline, battleground, networks, newspapers or do you mean a three point jump in the realclearpolitics national average? do tell.
i do remember that show dpd. my grandmother loved it. sometimes the winner only got a set of drapes!
DRAPES!! If they were purple, they were last weeks "cape". :)
I think I know why the debate was at Washington U.
They have one of the country's best Pharmacist schools. Maybe Sarah was acting as a mule for Cindy. Picking up "free samples".
I believe that Sarah Palin is grosly under qualified and unfit as a candidate for Vice President of the United States of America.
I believe that Sarah Palin's tactics in the debate were scripted and contrived.
I believe that Sarah Palin doesn't have the ability to face the American people unless she spends several days of preparatory coaching with expert political advisors.
I don't believe that Sarah Palin, all by herself, is an expert political advisor.
I believe that Sarah Palin is just a face adequate enough to govern Alaska, which is a state whose voters have a recent history of electing politicians who have used earmarks and pork-barrel legislation to spend tax-payer money for irrelevant state spending.
I believe Sarah Palin's "hockey mom", "joe six-pack", and "girl next-door" image is nothing more than a desperate political gimmick that will crumble under the real pressures the White House experiences on a daily basis.
And I believe Sarah Palin uses non-verbal body language as a stylistic measure to disguise her truly inadequate understanding of the issues.
I believe that Sarah Palin spent much of her time spouting pre-rehearsed answers to general political questions, defending McCain, and telling the American people of her over-hyped career as Governor of Alaska.
I believe that a McCain/Palin White House would be far more devastating to America than the Bush/Cheney White House has already proven to be.
...
That is all.
Oh, and then these miserable wretches could go home to their horrible lives with the abusive drunk husbands and wash their purple drapes in their "New matching Maytag Washer / Dryer Combination!!"
(as the audience says "OOOOoooohhhhhhhhh.......")
Try that show today and it would turn into an intervention hosted by Dr. Phil.
sally have ya seen the polling on who won the debate? guess what...
SandyH on October 2, 2008 at 11:42 PM
Well written, Sandy. And it was no surprise that she didn't want Biden to focus on the past 8 misbegotten years of Republican failure, during which McCain has supported Bush 90% of the time. I'd want to turn the page, too, if he was my running mate. Maybe she can make a royal edict to that effect: no past, serfs, only empty promises for some vague future. You can't fact-check the future, after all.
Hello again fine dems
The debate was great. If there was any doubt who the most qualified VP is... that doubt is gone for all but the idiots (that's you Sally).
Well I must say that Palin did not throw up or fall down. In Republican terms, that makes her a great leader.
sally never gets to visit reality...it is sad. maybe when the democrats are in the white house and running congress we can get them to allocate some money for a program where right wing nuts travel to reality for a weekend and live with real people with real problems and dreams.
Dear Governor Palin,
I was meaning to ask you about that investigation of you in Alaska, you know that one you're avoiding, besides what you said you would do. Isn't that the reason your approval rate has fallen some 14 points in your home state. You didn't have time to talk about that bridge to nowhere or the enormous sums of money your city and state got from Washington in the form of earmarks; clever of you to not bring it up. I didn't like the way you avoided some questions from the moderator or how you treated our Senator Biden, who has more compassion and knowledge and lived through more hard knocks than you will ever have in your life.
One other thing, what does it mean for us to have a "maverick" in the White House. Isn't that someone who doesn't listen to anybody else and does what he wants, when he wants? Isn't that exactly what is wrong about George Bush and how he got us into this mess? Aren't you really talking about 8 more years of Bush/Cheny politics?
If you're going to be such a uniter, why can't you act like it in a debate, you or your running mate? Why do you have to poke fun, or challenge disgracefully? Uniter or Divider?
I'll give you the "Joe Six-Pack" vote, you know the redkneck who wouldn't vote for Obama no matter what. So there goes Tennessee and Oklahoma.
Don't think you have the women's vote just because you're a female, there are troubling issues facing homemakers of all color and economic condition that you or your running mate are unable to connect with.
Good night, Governor. Thank goodness WE HAVE JOE BIDEN ON OUR SIDE!
yes sally the whole incredible plan of the republicans is working flawlessly....and it will continue to right up to where they trick the democrats into winning the white house and having to clean up asshole bush's mess.
good night folks. another good night for obama/biden...i like our chances more each day.
I think Palin would make a good cheerleader. Maybe even captain of the cheerleading squad. But VP for the US??? Not so much.
The McCain/Palin strategy is to throw Bush/Cheney off of the bus.
Palin's best and only argument was the "surge" argument.
Biden was all too quick to respond that the "surge" alternative was nothing more than a by-product of a disastrous decision to invade Iraq.
Palin spent the rest of the evening rehashing slogans and Republican brand cliches.
I was particularly dissapointed in her predictably use of body language. Her winks and smiley faces seemed contrived and over-rehearsed.
She doesn't have the ability stand on her own agenda because she doesn't have an agenda.
She doesn't support McCain as much as she defends him. And she is obviously upstaging him when it comes to public scrutiny.
Loyal Republicans want something to believe in and Sarah Palin, as under-qualified as she is, is better than nothing.
this one is a scientific poll sally. like the one that cbs did after the mcbush/obama poll which was supported by all the polls that came after it about the debate....here are the results sally...
"Forty-six percent of the uncommitted voters surveyed say Democrat Joe Biden won the debate, compared to 21 percent for Republican Sarah Palin. Thirty-three percent said it was a tie...
...Eighteen percent of previously uncommitted percent say they are now committed to the Obama-Biden ticket. Ten percent say they are now committed to McCain-Palin. Seventy-one percent are still uncommitted."
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/10/02/politics/horserace/entry4497035.shtml
game, set, match moron...again!
I like it, gregg.
Kind of like a reverse Disneyland for them.
Or like Superman going to "Bizarro World" where everything is opposite of what they once perceived.
Or as Stephan Wright said "If God drops acid, does he see people?"
Biden did have a great night.
He proved to be in complete command of the facts and wasn't easily jarred by the novice attacks of Palin.
What made Biden really strong was the fact that he didn't need to attack Palin.
He let Palin say whatever she wanted and he stuck to his premise that McCain is just another Bush.
final thought. i bet tomorrow's jobs report, the last one before the election has a lot more impact on the republican ticket than any of the debates will. this is a republican economy after all....you break it, you own it....then there is the small distraction of the bail out...yup good times are coming for the republicans...you can just smell it...hahahahahaha
Biden, since accepting the nomination for VP from Obama, has never attempted to upstage Obama. But rather he has always supported and adviced him on issues relevant to his expertise.
Palin on the otherhand has spent an inordinate amount of time in the spotlight.
McCain spends more time defending or otherwise talking about how "wonderful" Palin is than he does speaking about his agenda.
McCain/Palin's strategy is to distract the American people with catchy slogans, concede that the Bush Administration was a complete failure and avoid addressing the issues.
Palin really needs to bring her pom-poms to the next debate. She has nothing else to add.
Sis-boom-bah; McClame is a Mav-rick.
Sis-boom-bag; He's the leader to do the trick.
Rah Bush. The surge is working!
My son just came back from the debate with photos and stories. He was indeed in the crowd behind "The Hardball" set out on the lawn and got a good photo of Tweety laughing...that laugh. He said the crowd was nuttier than a mash pit.
And he did indeed get the promised partial view inside the field house. He could see Biden at the podium but Palin was hidden behind the flag (is that ironic or what?). But he could see the TV monitors of Palin as she spoke. And he could see Kucinich, Giuliani, and Ifil real well during the debate and how they were reacting.
He said that many people did not get there in time, so that a lot more of the students got grandstand seats. They all felt very lucky to have seen this debate in person. He got a commemorative program and a certificate with a seal.
He thought that both candidates both did what they wanted to do and were obviously well prepared. But he resented that Palin would not answer the questions unless she wanted to answer them.
After the debate, he said that people were saying that she was trying to hide the fact that she didn't understand the issues...she seemed to be repeating copy points from a speech instead of thinking on her feet. For college students, this strategy is an obvious cope out. They can't get by with that in class.
He liked that Biden changed strategy mid-debate when it became obvious that Palin would not play by the rules. When Biden went on the offensive, he really started scoring points with the crowd.
And my son says that when Palin picked a fight with Ifil at the start of the debate, she lost the audience. They took it as a lack of respect for her and for them as well. Her maverick lines fell dead after that and the vibe noticeably changed in the room.
My question now is: If Palin refuses to do any more interviews, will the only things that we see about her from now till the election are those segments from the Couric interviews and her more notorious segments from the debates?
The McCain camp have really boxed themselves in a corner.
What a bunch of self-absorbed Republican doorknobs. They forgot that they needed to win over the Independents...not just shore up their frustrated Base. Bad, bad mistake.
And every time those Couric segments run, their side will get frustrated all over again. And the GOP still hasn't convinced Independents that she or McCain could solve any real problems.
Attack dogs frighten people when they are out of control. The Palin/McCain ticket is chasing people around biting at their heels when they already feel threatened. It's not good strategy.
Biden is the VP candidate and, unlike Palin, he is doing everything a VP has to do.
He supports Obama. He demonstrates competence and an ability to take over if the need should arise.
He didn't attack Palin.
Bill Clinton said that Palin should be off limits. And Biden obliged.
Anyone who has a keen understanding and respect for politics has already concluded that Palin isn't presidential material.
Obama and Biden know that this is the only VP debate and after the Couric interview there is no reason to believe that Palin has enough experience or knowledge of international or national politics to be effective even as a VP.
So attacking Palin would not yield any positive results.
Attacking Palin would only anger supporters and energize the extreme right.
My question now is: If Palin refuses to do any more interviews, will the only things that we see about her from now till the election are those segments from the Couric interviews and her more notorious segments from the debates?
196SandyH on October 3, 2008 at 12:53 AM
That is truly a great point.
The only thing left for Palin is to rally pro-right wing crowds and continue her predictable rhetoric.
She really has nothing left but to continue to perpetuate right-wing slogans and catchy Republican phrases.
Howdy,
I still can not understand how or why the red-raider party could put up such a dangerous inexperienced light-weight boza when the world is in a meltdown critical period. Diversion? Distraction? Sabotage? Cruelty?
And critics are saying that she is a winner in the debate too, for not falling flat on her face. Yea, that's what this great country needs, cutsy optimistic mediocrity with a really annoying voice. The world is rolling in the aisles in hysterics, mostly crying though.
Independent swing-voters and the right-wing base have nothing in common.
Independent swing-voters want answers and solutions.
The right-wing base wants anything with the Republican brandname sewn on it.
It's all part of the October Surprise. It was a set up to the coda and the Swan Song.
Either she leaves the ticket to "spend more time with her family" or McLame leaves for medical reasons.
The Pugs KNOW they are toast, and the only hope is to regroup and try again in 2012.
The liberal left has not always historically supported all things related to the Democratic Party.
Some on the liberal left abandoned Gore in 2000 to support a third party candidate.
And Democrats who fail in scandal are usually treated like political "lepers".
Unlike in the Republican Party, as long as a politician tows the Republican Party line, right-wingers will support them no matter how guilty they may be.
It's an obvious case-study in loyalty versus common sense.
Because Democrats think. Pugs react in lockstep.
StewartT on October 3, 2008 at 12:22 AM
StewartT,
Yes, she's a real case study in American political hypocrisy...manufactured and crafted to sell a ticket not solve any problems.
Does the average voter feel any more confident about their future now that she has completely dismissed the idea that there isn't anything really wrong in this country that another eight years of McSame won't cure?
She made sure she sounded like a Democrat when she talked about the problems facing us but only offered the same maverick rhetoric and standard Republican BS trickle down economics that has failed so badly.
And Palin thinks she's going to be another Cheney? Good gosh, someone kill that thought before it goes any further.
"Never again will we be taken advantage of again."
Palin got that one right. Like Boilerman said, this thing is all but over except the crying by the likes of Joe Scarborough.
199TomN on October 3, 2008 at 01:05 AM
Palin was successful because she didn't turn the VP debate into a Katie Couric interview.
Couric did everything a journalist was trained to do. She asked the questions that mattered and let the chips fall where they may.
Unfortunately for Palin, her inexperience was accentuated and played over and over again on YouTube for America to see.
Couric does many interviews and her interview with Palin wasn't expected to be as pivotal as it turned out.
A failure for Palin at the VP debate would have completely closed the coffin for the Republican Party and the extreme right.
Palin's success was a matter of savin face for an obviously under qualified VP candidate.
The Republican Party has no leaders.
That's why McCain was nominated.
Guiliani?
Romney?
Thompson?
Huckabee?
Ron Paul?
McCain is the default nominee for the Republican Party.
Palin is the default VP pick for a default nominee.
SandyH,
I thought the "never be fooled again" line was a classic example of how desperate the incumbent political party has become.
It will be hilarious when we start hearing "The Who" at Republican Party rallies over the next month with Palin as the keynote speaker and McCain standing on the sidelines cheering her on.
I still don't see Palin able to stare down the Russians or Iran or other rogue country should we get into a crisis with one of them. What's she going to do? Flash a pretty smile and hope they melt in the process? She talks about reforms, but never mentioned what she has planned, neither does McCane. At least Barack has told us what he plans to do. A debate shouldn't be decided on how someone looks or if they make a verbal goof-up, it should be about their plans for the Country. We don't need mavericks, we need leaders. The real vote is for the presidency and the last 2 debates coming up will be the ones that are the key factors. Obama will continue to gain support. I think America is tired with Republican (Communist) rule the last 8 years.
Palin advances the notion that "never again will we be fooled again".
But who was doing the fooling? Who fooled Palin and her band of reformers with she refers to when using the pronoun "we"?
The Republican Party has held power in the Congress, Supreme Court and the White House for almost a decade.
The twisty insanity that the big business representatives keep pushing, in the effort to make it come true, is equating energy independence with drilling the heck out of baby (USA).
They don't get it on purpose, obviously: pulling carbon energy sources out of the earth storage and burning it into the atmosphere is the problem. A giant looming and accelerating problem.
"Clean green natural gas" and any type of coal plant is misrepresenting the path to destruction. These mouthpieces are dangerous because they get to hold the microphone and don't know then to stfu even for their own good. And other voices get shut out.
I don't get why some people would be promoting chaos and destruction, is it willful ignorance or worse? War profiteering?
As much fun as it is to decipher Sarah Palin's inadequacy,
It can't be said enough that Joe Biden gave the best debate performance of his life.
Biden didn't do anything that didn't come natural.
He is a political wonk with unquestioned experience.
But it was his debate agenda that made his debate presence a success.

TomN,
It's all the Republican Party has left.
Their ideology has been proven not to work...except with a 1.5 trillion dollar dash of corporate socialism. All their economic and neocon policies have been a disaster. They've weakened out military and our standing in the world.
Palin is the best they have. Shocking but true.
McCain isn't even running for president. He thinks he should be appointed because he's the only war hero worthy of the office. And there are actually people in this country who agree.
Thank the Lord, we've registered enough new voters to trump the Rove voter suppression machine this time. And we're seeking out all those Democratic voters who have been feeling so alone so long. This time they are really going to get out there and vote with us again.
Rest easy, folks. Palin stepped in enough of her own dodo tonight to keep our momentum going.
Joe Biden's debate agenda was not,
to attack Palin,
and to get trapped into a meaningless cat fight with a political novice.
Joe Biden's debate agenda was,
to stick to the issues,
and simply argue in favor of an Obama/Biden White House.
The McLame crowd can't even stare down Maureen Dowd.
They were lining up all their talking points to trash Gwen Ifill.
What makes anybody in that lame ass campaign think they can pick and choose which tin horn dictator they will refuse to acknowledge?
They are incompetent whiny assed titty babies.
"Just plain suck" about covers it.
The Republican Party is in a no win situation.
If Obama/Biden wins,
The Republican Party loses.
If McCain/Palin wins,
The Republican Party loses again.
There is no substitute for competency and expertise.
McCain is a not a political expert.
McCain is a war hero who uses the concept of patriotism as a substitue for political competency and expertise.
It's an obvious case-study in loyalty versus common sense.

The big fringe cult of republican authoritarianism, whoops, cult of republican conservatism. The shoe fits, too tightly for reasonableness.
McCain chose Palin because she is subserviant to his political needs.
McCain and Palin are not mavericks or reformers.
McCain is not a champion of big government and a regulated market.
McCain doesn't serve the American people, McCain only serves his own politcal ambition to be President.
McCain has proven himself to be nothing more than a predictable political hack who longs to be the President of the United States and will do and say anything that he believes will help further that cause.
StewartT on October 3, 2008 at 01:30 AM
It's actually been going on since Reagan.
The last decade was the GOP's crowning glory complete with WMD lies, Enron greed, Katrina incompetence, K Street corruption, and those ever endearing GOP characters, Foley and Craig.
All we needed was the right candidate to end the madness. We actually ended up with about ten great candidates. This economic meltdown cries out to even the most fiscal conservative for new leadership and a new direction.
McCain is barely functioning and Palin couldn't figure out for the life of her what she's supposed to do if she's elected. It's too obvious to even the most jaded Republican that they are both unfit to serve.
McCain was captured and spent several years as a Vietnam POW.
How does that make him a candidate for the United States of America?
email from Wexler yesterday snip:
----------
The report is so damning of Alberto Gonzales, Rove, Miers, and others that the current Attorney General, Michael Mukasey, has appointed a Special Prosecutor to investigate and, if warranted, issue criminal charges.
Whether this is the beginning of real accountability remains to be seen, but it is my mission to try to make sure Congress does not abdicate its responsibility to do its own investigations.
Later this week, Chairman Conyers and the Judiciary Committee will hold hearings on this matter, where I expect to vigorously question Inspector General Fine and other witnesses.
Like you, I will not be satisfied until I see true justice, blind from partisanship, and a wholesale cleansing of the Justice Department. We must remove anyone who contributed to the corrupting of this critical institution.
Given the fact that John McCain's campaign is chock full of Bush and Rove allies, there is no reason to think a McCain administration would stop the corruption and mismanagement of the justice department. Obviously, working to elect Obama gets us much closer to this goal.
While we are dealing with very serious issues in Congress this week, it is my view that the threat posed by a corrupting of the Justice department is of vital importance and must be dealt with seriously by this Congress.
Nothing less than our system of justice is at stake. We must not be distracted from that reality.
Please keep vigilant.
Sincerely,
Robert Wexler
-where oh where is real accountability, and where are all the real representatives to help this brave one to do his job? Why are they having such a difficult time protecting the rule of law?
SandyH,
I agree.
One of the curses that the Democratic Party has always endured is that they aren't easily fooled by style and the standard to nominate a leader has never been sacrificed.
Democrats are content to fight against their own for the sake of integrity.
Republicans are loyal and don't have the courage to speak out against anything that doesn't wear a Republican name tag.
He's NOT a "war hero". He's a survivor. Don't fall in to that semantic trap. He did NOTHING that saved a single life, changed the outcome of a battle or affected the course of combat in any way.
He was a POW. That is admirable in and of itself, but that doesn't make him a "hero" in any sense of the word.
Since FDR the Democratic Party standard bearer has always been a choice of integrity.
The Republicans have implemented into their party a culture of winning elections over nurturing leadership.
225Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on October 3, 2008 at 02:00 AM
That is a great point.
McCain never did anything heroic.
McCain is not a war hero.
McCain is really just a survivor of a Vietnam POW camp.
Since it's the baseball season, I think of the concept of leadership in political party much the same way I think of professional baseball and the minor leagues.
Competitive professional baseball teams have strong minor league teams.
These minor league teams nurture up and coming players who are not yet ready for the big leagues.
The Democratic Party has a natural attraction young politicians who have strong ambitions to fight for positive change.
The Republican Party on the otherhand, attracts the wealthy.
Trickle down economics.
Small government.
Free Market Capitalism.
These slogans relate only to business owners where monetary profitability is the topic at hand.
Conservatism is based on keeping the status quo.
Only the wealthy want to keep the status quo.
Everyone else is happy with the prospect of change.
In order for Republicans to maintain and conserve the status quo the government must be controlled by politicians who will keep the status quo in check.
So for conservative Republicans "winning elections" is the bottom line.
America4US on October 3, 2008 at 01:25 AM
I doubt many people will bother to watch the next debate and the last one will only serve to reinforce what people have already decided.
The tide turned with the first debate. Obama proved that he was presidential material and could be trusted. He outlined a Middle Class recovery plan and emphasized that he's determined to put it in place if elected.
He closed the deal with a majority of the Independents and Undecided. Biden slammed the door tonight.
Like 98% and 95% of the people polled tonight by two different agencies believed Biden knows his stuff and that he could take over in an emergency. That's unreal. It's the biggest vote of confidence since George Washington.
Our mission now is to get out that vote. Between now and the election we have to continue knocking on doors and making those follow up phone calls. Obama is not going to make any mistakes and McCain can't help but hurt himself.
It's now time to start worrying about what else Bush has been keeping secret. The Great Depression may have started out with a crash but winded along slowly and just got more ugly. We need to know the whole truth. And God willing we will get it soon.
It's getting real late here. I'm going to say Good Night.
Conservative Republicans invest heavily in winning elections.
Conservative Republicans by nature are the most reliable voter on election day because it directly serves their own interests.
Consequently Conservative Republicans invest very little resources regarding a constructive view of leadership.
why dont republican make the milltary buget smaller and use the money to help the stock market instead of borrowing the money from china to help the rich who cause this problem i the first place i hope when obama becomes president that he change the plan to make the rich pay for it and pay back down to the tresury and pau down the massive debt the repugs have racked up
The downfall of the Conservative Republican has only begun.
Conservative Republicans cannot even argue coherently anymore because in order to do so, they have to admit unequivically to the disastrous past 8 years of the Bush Administration.
But to do so would also mean that Conservative Republicans would have acknowledge the great strides the Democratic Party has been making in developing their leaders and their agenda.
Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on October 3, 2008 at 02:00 AM
DPD,
He may not be a hero in the real sense, but he suffered in his service to this country. It's a fact and it's not necessary to debate it. We can win this election on the merit of our own policies.
McCain could be seen as more of a hero if he had tried to help others throughout his life. He hasn't and that's a fact, too.
Bye.
Republicans are spending an inordinate amount of energy defending their positions rather than promoting them.
Loyal Conservative Republicans only trust Loyal Conservative Republicans and everyone else is a "liberal".
This is a dynamic that everyone sees on a daily basis in American politics.
A great example of the lack of leadership the Republican Party faces is the debate.
Biden probably didn't spend a lot of time preparing for the debate.
Palin on the otherhand needed to cram for the debate.
If Palin was a true viable candidate for the Vice Presidency, she wouldn't have need to cram for anything.
She would have been ready to step up to the plate and get the job done.
Palin is 46 years old.
She is no spring-chicken and her background is insufficient for the rigors of VP.
Biden made no special effort on his part to prepare for this debate.
By tommorrow Biden will be more energized to hit the campaign trail more than ever before.
Palin and McCain will continue to defend each other and invoke the same old tired responses that we been hearing since the Democratic National Convention ended and Palin's name was first announced.
54 /43 Biden wins according to the local NBC station.
The Conservative Republican agenda is detoriating and dying before our very eyes.
Sarah Palin's biggest accomplishment is energizing a right-win base that has nothing to be energized about.
The last eight years has been nothing but one crisis after another.
9/11
Iraq
Katrina
Wall Street
These events define the legacy of the Bush Administration.
Sarah Palin and John McCain are running for an incumbent political party with an agenda of Maverickism and Reform.
Palin and McCain need to spend more time trying to reform the Republican Party. The Republican Party is the reason for the mess we're in.
Loyal Republicans will continue to tow the party line while the rest of America will be looking solutions.
This is an inherant curse on the Republican Party because they can't defend their failed policies and find solutions at the same time.
The Republicans are left with only a minority group of loyalists who will say anything to cheerlead and promote anything Republican.
These loyalists have no ability to question or challenge the Republican Party and will spend little effort in creating a strong political party that will withstand the challenges of the future.
And the fact checking is afoot.
And counting, with hot links coming soon.
This is a great opportunity for Democrats to seize upon.
The more the Conservative Republicans continue their detoriorating agenda the more they falter.
But solutions don't come when past mistakes are not accepted.
So Democrats can really use this time to strengthen their base and build a formidable political party that will make America strong.
Solutions are not winks, lies, slogans and loyal distractions.
The Democratic Party is experiencing a very opportune moment in history. The techonological revolution has made it impossible for the average person to know the facts.
The facts are that 8 years of Conservative Republican power are disastrous.
And the twenty percent who still support the Republican Party have only two choices,
1) Continue to distort the truth.
2) Or change the subject.
Palin said “it was John McCain who pushed so hard with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform measures,” but fact checkers say that’s “Quite A Stretch” And “Barely True,” and that McCain was a “latecomer” to the discussion.
This is a clear example of how McCain and Conservative Republicans simply change their positions for political expediency.
True skill is measured by time.
When Conservative Republicans spend their time trying to win elections through unscrupulous means that is the skill they will own.
The Democratic Party will prosper with leaders who simply know the issues and know how to find solutions to problems.
Palin said that [McKiernan] did not say a surge wouldn’t work in Afghanistan, when just yesterday he said “The word I don’t use for Afghanistan is ’surge,’ ” McKiernan stressed, saying that what is required is a “sustained commitment” to a counterinsurgency effort that could last many years and would ultimately require a political, not military, solution
This is a perfect example of how out of touch Palin is with Military issues.
Conservative Republicans will continue to run from the causes of our problems and offer rehearsed and contrived slogans.
At this point in time The Democratic Party enjoysa tremendous advantage in that 8 years of Republican power has yielded its results.
All the Democratic Party needs to concentrate on is building leaders and building a strong political infrastructure.
As Conservative Republicans to master and hone in their predictable and outdated political tactics, their infrastructure will deteriorate.
You are delusional.
2012 it will be he incumbents Obama & Biden against the challengers Romney & JEB Bush.
Palin relied on topline phrases and had little command of facts. Why, she even memorized the name of the President of Iran. But it was mostly blah, blah, blah. At the end, the Obama-Biden ticket is far ahead on the big issues -- and Palin's a parrot repeating memorized phrases, not a plausible vice-president. Biden called her on it every time.
This is an interesting quote. Parroting repeated and memorized phrases is an idiosyncracy of Conservative Republican loyalists.
The last two Democratic VP nominees fell short in their debates; Lieberman was routed and never even fought back. Biden did the job for Democrats while Palin sounded like Kozinski's Chance the Gardener mouthing empty phrases. In successive sentences she said "there you go again" and "doggone."
This observation points out the stylistic tactics used tonight. These stylistic are common to Conservative Republicans.
And these stylistic choices can be used against Conservative Republicans.
The biggest advantage that the Democratic Party enjoys is that in a time of crisis facts matter.
Neo-cons and the extreme right and such can easily be manipulated because their nature is to attack with emotion and not facts.
Biden was brilliant in the way he allowed Palin to continue her rehearsed and contrived answers will destroy any possible chance for her to win any further election in the future.
Her answers are archived for the books and she will have to defend words for the rest of her political life.
And this is line of thinking is characteristic of the Conservative Republican.

Hurricane Caterina "manmade"
Gore says that Hurricane Caterina, the only hurricane ever to strike the coast of Brazil, was caused by “global warming.” It was not. In 2004, Brazil’s summer sea surface temperatures were cooler than normal, not warmer. But air temperatures were the coldest in 25 years. The air was so much colder than the water that it caused a heat flux from the water to the air similar to that which fuels hurricanes in warm seas.

Generally speaking most Conservative Republicans have already conceded the election.
But the problem isn't whether the Republican Party loses in a landslide.
The problem is a lack of credible and competent leadership from the Republican Party and this lack of credible and competent leadership is lasting.

Other than that, Palin's grasp fluctuated between wafer thin and skin deep. The moment that most drove me to want to send her a book on Greek gods and heroes was her head-scratching response to the question about her Achilles heel. She apparently didn't know what that meant since she spent her allotted time listing all of her attributes as opposed to her most glaring weakness.
Palin is obviously not very well read.
Her response to this question was a very subtle and yet obvious example of her lack of sophistication.
I thought Joey looked kind of faggy up on stage. He was also walking like he had something massaging his spincter.

Japanese typhoons "a new record"
Gore says that 2004 set a new record for the number of typhoons striking Japan. It did not. The trend in the number of typhoons, and of tropical cyclones, has fallen throughout the past 50 years. The trend in rainfall from cyclones has also fallen, and there has been no trend in monsoon rainfall.
I'm so glad we had Joe Biden standing at that podium tonight. It occurred to me after watching a replay of the debate that he had everything he needed already and everything that Palin attempted in her sneaky way of attacking him crashed against what appeared to be an invisible shield, the shield of earning credibility over many years. She had nothing over him although she tried.
There's no comparason and no way that Sarah Palin will ever match Joe Biden's experience and expertise and we all know it. I certainly know who I would rather have in the White House carefully watching over our country in these times. There is no doubt that Obama and Biden have the answers and it seems more and more that Palin/McSame are watching what Obama/Biden do first before doing or saying anything!
Sarah Palin rudely manipulating the debate with her self-glory and bragatto, and skirting around important issues became more obvious on the second viewing. It stood out and was dissonant. She was not paying attention to anything other than the coached agenda that she was spewing out to fit into the time she had in her responses. She was self-centered and nearly oblivious to Gwen Ifill. She did not obey the rules of the debate! She may be great as a sportscaster and a soccer mom but as governor is now in trouble in her own state!
There is no real fairness in tip toeing around her low bar. As a woman who has worked hard for many years to comprehend the world and to work, I do not look so much at the gender of the person as much as what is in this person's head, what their skill is for the job objectively.
Anyone with any sensibility or caution or seriousness in choosing even a reliable attorney would go for Biden over Palin, really. Even Hilary would tell you that it is Biden who would be ready to take over on the first day. We do not have time to let someone learn this post as Bush did so disasterously the hard way (and so stubbornly his way) with all of the consequences for this entire country "on the job". We already are suffering from making that mistake and to make it again, to be charmed and fooled now in such a way, would be too big a risk to our future. This is not a time for illusions or popularity contests!
We need our country back, we need our treaties, our constitution, our respect and we need to get to mending now. We cannot afford to take the Republican path any longer. As Kucinich has said, we need to cure the homeowners on Main Street and face the simple fact that there is something wrong when working Americans cannot make ends meet on the wages they receive in relation to the standard of daily living and the expense of items of need - not luxury, but basic need. This is what the Democrats have always fought for, dignity and equality, and it is the Dems that have worked closely with the working people and the unions that protect worker's rights in the rust belt and the mines. The Republicans are the bosses trying to get the profits whichever way they can. They take things, they cheat, they betray and go off shore or run away shops and they steal - like Tricky Dicky taking the peace sign and using it to try to appeal to people that he was caring and cool toward the end of his corrupt and ill fated presidency. We all laughed at him doing the peace sign with both hands in a vee, also the old sign of victory as he boarded that plane forever away from the White House, he was the epitomy of hypocracy. There is another man who Nixon knew then. John McCain resembles his mentor in his ambition. Lately it has seemed the same in his campaign with all the accusations and claims in his ads that have been quickly disproven. One of the commentators said that Sarah Palin has a fresh new style, yes, the old guard of Republicans are drooling over their pretty Sarah, banking on your social amnesia!
Biden was correct on more of the facts tonight than Palin and more cool, calm and collected. When he showed emotion it was genuine and we all felt it with him, but Sarah did not seem to register the moment or feel it. She was already pouncing to take advantage of the silence to get in her plug.
How revealing it all was like the reality of Main Street's latest unemployment figures, each a real feeling human being needing help as Joe and Obama have said, and wanting answers that were not there for them from Sarah in a real way in tonight's debate.
She may have put on a good show for her base, but that's about it. With McCain flip flopping on the bail out it seems like this is a pretty shaky pair to bet one's country on at this time. They seem cold, unresponsive, and...out of touch.

She twice referred to the commanding U.S. general in Afghanistan as “General McClellan.”
In fact, his name is Gen. David McKiernan and, as Biden said, he called this week for the U.S. and its allies to rush more troops “as quickly as possible” to Afghanistan and warn that the fighting there could worsen before it gets better.
She was adept at not answering questions and stuck to breezy sound bites, frequently looking to her notes.
This excerpt truly tells the gap between competence and loyal Conservative Republicans
Close Shave
John McCain and Barack Obama somehow ended up at the same barber shop. As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken.
The barbers were both afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn to politics. As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had Barack in his chair reached for the after shave.
Obama was quick to stop him saying, "No thanks, my wife Michelle will smell that and think I've been in a whorehouse".
The second barber turned to John and said "how about you?"
McCain replied "Go ahead, my wife Cindy doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like.

Over the past 60 years there has been no change in the strength of hurricanes, even though hydrocarbon use went up six-fold in the same period. Research by Dr. Kerry Emanuel, cited by Ms. Kreider, has been discredited by more recent findings that wind-shear effects tend to nullify the amplification of hurricane strength which he had suggested, and, of course, by the observed failure of hurricanes to gain strength during the past 60 years of “global warming.”

There was a record amount of snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere in 2001. Several vessels were icebound in the Arctic in the spring of 2007, but few newspapers reported this. The newspapers reported that the North-West Passage was free of ice in 2007, and said that this was for the first time since records began: but the records, taken by satellites, had only begun 29 years previously. Look you little moron, You made the statement, YOU PROVE it.
Morning SCREWUM, gregg and Dusty,
Way to go Joe! CBS showed the scores at the end of the debate. I think Biden was 62% and the beauty queen was 35%.
She really pissed me off. She spouted raygunisms twice and actually said "There you go again".
raygun is DEAD and his stupid trickle down economics is DEAD! Give it a rest neocons.
I heard something the other day about raygun. He actually begged the Russian president in a letter to sit down with him and talk. I assume that this is how he made the breakthrough which led to the fall of the Soviet Empire.
This flies completely in the face of the mythology spewed by the cheerleaders like hannity and the repuke party that raygun would not sit down with anyone.
Give it a rest repukes.
Morning Dems! I loved the way that Joe laughingly treated Palin like a naive little gal. I thought if she winked one more time, I was going to go into the TV and yank her eyeball out! How unsophisticated, and immature she looked. Got a picture of Dick Cheney doing that?
Here's a few of the many Lies she spouted:
Palin mistakenly claimed that troop levels in Iraq had returned to “pre-surge” levels. Levels are gradually coming down but current plans would have levels higher than pre-surge numbers through early next year, at least.
Biden incorrectly said “John McCain voted the exact same way” as Obama on a controversial troop funding bill. The two were actually on opposite sides.
Palin repeated a false claim that Obama once voted in favor of higher taxes on “families” making as little as $42,000 a year. He did not. The budget bill in question called for an increase only on singles making that amount, but a family of four would not have been affected unless they made at least $90,000 a year.
Palin claimed McCain’s health care plan would be “budget neutral,” costing the government nothing. Independent budget experts estimate McCain's plan would cost tens of billions each year, though details are too fuzzy to allow for exact estimates.
Palin wrongly claimed that “millions of small businesses” would see tax increases under Obama’s tax proposals. At most, several hundred thousand business owners would see increases.
PALIN: "Two years ago, remember, it was John McCain who pushed so hard with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform measures. He sounded that warning bell."
THE FACTS: Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska led an effort in 2005 to tighten regulation on the mortgage underwriters — McCain joined as a co-sponsor a year later. The legislation was never taken up by the full Senate, then under Republican control.
PALIN: Said of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama: "94 times he voted to increase taxes or not support a tax reduction."
THE FACTS: The dubious count includes repetitive votes as well as votes to cut taxes for the middle class while raising them on the rich. An analysis by factcheck.org found that 23 of the votes were for measures that would have produced no tax increase at all, seven were in favor of measures that would have lowered taxes for many, 11 would have increased taxes on only those making more than $1 million a year.
___
PALIN: Said Alaska is "building a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline, which is North America's largest and most expensive infrastructure project ever to flow those sources of energy into hungry markets."
THE FACTS: Not quite. Construction is at least six years away. So far the state has only awarded a license to Trans Canada Corp., that comes with $500 million in seed money in exchange for commitments toward a lengthy and costly process to getting a federal certificate. At an August news conference after the state Legislature approved the license, Palin said, "It's not a done deal."
PALIN: Said a McCain-Palin administration "will support Israel," including "building our embassy ... in Jerusalem."
THE FACTS: Moving the U.S. Embassy from its present location in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is a perennial promise of presidential candidates courting the Jewish-American vote. In fact, moving the embassy is actually required by U.S. law. But successive administrations of both parties, including George W. Bush's, have made the same pledge only to find that the realities of Middle East peacemaking have forced them to invoke a waiver to delay it. Jerusalem is claimed as a capital by both Israel and the Palestinians and Israel's occupation of east Jerusalem is not internationally recognized. The city's status is one of the key issues of disagreement in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.
AND THE PUNDITS ARE ALL SAYING THE SAME THING. THIS DEBATE MAY HAVE MADE IT A LITTLE MORE FAVORABLE TO PALIN WHO'S LIGHT HAD BEEN FADING EVEN WITH THE THICK HEADED REPUGS, BUT THIS BY NO MEANS WAS ANY GAME CHANGER !!!!
McCain spends more time defending or otherwise talking about how "wonderful" Palin is than he does speaking about his agenda.
Posted by StewartT on October 3, 2008 at 12:50 AM
That is because he has no agenda. He doesn't need one. When an issue comes up, he'll ask George Bush what to do.
35 Inconvenient Truths
The errors in Al Gore’s movie
ERROR 19
Greenland ice sheet "unstable"
Image Gore says “global warming” is making the Greenland ice sheet unstable. It is not. Greenland ice grows 2in a year. The Greenland ice sheet survived each of the previous three interglacial periods, each of which was 5 degrees Celsius warmer than the present. It survived atmospheric CO2 concentrations of up to 1000 ppmv (compared with today’s 400 ppmv). It last melted 850,000 years ago, when humankind did not exist and could not have caused the melting. There is a close correlation between variations in Solar activity and temperature anomalies in Greenland, but there is no correlation between variations in CO2 concentration and temperature changes in Greenland. The IPCC (2001) says that to melt even half the Greenland ice sheet would require temperature to rise by 5.5 degrees C and remain that high for several thousand years.
why done look it up you moron or our to stupid to use internet on your own

Pam, our trolls like to think they they are like the conservative movers and shakers of this world, the ones who create their own reality. Unfortunately for them, they don't realize just how badly torn and tattered that reality is now, and even if it weren't, they just don't have the power to do anything more than sit in their own jizz, piss and sweat thinking it's a hot tub filled with beautiful women.
later, gotta get some work done.
The f__king neocons in congress will do anything to make the Dems look bad. The neocons in the senate added on $150 billion in "earmarks" to the bail-out bill. If it passes, it makes the Dems in congress look bad. If it fails it makes the Dems in congress look bad.
We are screwed either way. I personally think this whole meltdown is a political maneuver to steal the election both for mcasshole and the neocons in congress.
We must say no to the bailout of the wall street trillionaires.
We must start a Federal jobs program just like Roosevelt did. Masses of people are out of work and are panicking. I heard on the news this morning that HP laid of 25,000. Is that true?
Yesterday I was talking with a general contractor and he is running scared. He said that jobs are drying up and contractors in general are running out of work. He is definitely voting for Dems.
We cannot wait another month to start a jobs program. These moron neocons just don't get it.
Give people jobs and they will have money to buy things. This in turn will stimulate business. God these people are stupid assholes.
TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS IS AN UTTER FAILURE!
GROW UP YOU STUPID NEOCON ASSHOLES!

What do you consider work, going out and whacking jews?
just in case anyone paid the LEAST bit of attention to any ramblings from right wing sources about Al Gore and his Movie, his is a REAL synopsis of the movie, by "Climate Science from Climate Scientists".
How well does the film handle the science? Admirably, I thought. It is remarkably up to date, with reference to some of the very latest research. Discussion of recent changes in Antarctica and Greenland are expertly laid out. He also does a very good job in talking about the relationship between sea surface temperature and hurricane intensity. As one might expect, he uses the Katrina disaster to underscore the point that climate change may have serious impacts on society, but he doesn't highlight the connection any more than is appropriate (see our post on this, here).
(they DO point out a couple of small things they find wrong, but basically IT WAS ALL FACT !)

Now WHY a German, whose country of Germany has signed Kyota and agrees that there is Global Warming and it is man-made would bother to try and pretend otherwise is truly mind boggling. surely he has some sausage to make or something!)
My admiration for Al Gore, who is trying to save this planet !
Al Gore and Climate Panel awarded Nobel Peace prize 2007

Al GoreThe 2007 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded today to former U.S. Vice President Albert Arnold Gore Jr. and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The Nobel committee cited "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change" as the reasons for awarding the prize.
The Nobel Peace Prize
The Nobel Peace Prize (Swedish and Norwegian: Nobels fredspris) is the name of one of five Nobel Prizes bequeathed by the Swedish industrialist and inventor Alfred Nobel. The other prizes are given out in Sweden, in different categories, but the Peace prize is given out by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo, Norway. Last Year Muhammad Yunus and The Grameen Bank won the Nobel Peace Prize.
By the provisions of Nobel's will, the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
Norwegian Nobel Committee
The Nobel Institute in Oslo, Norway. The Committee's five members are entrusted with researching and adjudicating the Prize as well as awarding it. Although appointed by the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget), they are independent and answer to no legislative authority. Members of the Norwegian government are not permitted to sit on the Committee. Nominations for the Prize may be made by a broad array of qualified individuals, including former recipients, members of national assemblies and congresses, university professors (in certain disciplines), international judges, and special advisors to the Prize Committee.

pam why is a german getting envoled in us poltics so that neo con that why he so stupid
If this denial of global warming (ala limpbaugh) continues to dominate the minds(?) of the neocons, their mouthpieces should be charged with crimes against humanity and sent to the Hague. How stupid can one group of people be. They obviously care nothing about their loved ones or the planet. The only thing I can conclude is that they want the rapture to come as soon as possible. Talk about demented, ignorant, empty suits.
Unfortunately for them, they don't realize just how badly torn and tattered that reality is now, and even if it weren't, they just don't have the power to do anything more than sit in their own jizz, piss and sweat thinking it's a hot tub filled with beautiful women.
GregL, This is why the trollies are in here so hot and bothered and shrill these days! They are Powerless to do anything but stand back and watch as the old man and his bimbo side kick go down and down and down ! hahahahaha
well, for those who do not like CBS, here is CNN !
A national poll of people who watched the vice presidential debate Thursday night suggests that Democratic Sen. Joe Biden won, but also says Republican Gov. Sarah Palin exceeded expectations.
Poll respondents give Sen. Joe Biden the edge over Gov. Sarah Palin in ability to express views.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. said 51 percent of those polled thought Biden did the best job, while 36 percent thought Palin did the best job.
87 percent say Biden is qualified for job, 42 percent

During the Great Republican Depression of 1929, some Democrat promised a chicken in every pot when people were starving to death and standing in bread lines.
The neocon motto is "a turd in every pot" unless you are rich and privileged and upper class.
ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) -- Sarah Palin stared criticism straight in the face Thursday, telling opponent Joe Biden and moderator Gwen Ifill that she would answer questions and address issues on her own terms during the vice presidential debate.
Joe Biden and Sarah Palin traded barbs Thursday in the only vice presidential debate this election year.
"I may not answer the question the way you want to hear, but I'll talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record," Palin said.
Since being picked as Republican presidential nominee John McCain's running mate, Palin has been under fire for not being accessible enough to the media and delivering tightly scripted speeches during campaign appearances.
Palin did not veer off course during the 90-minute debate, but her stand on principle appeared to hurt her, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. Poll of debate watchers.
Only 26 percent of those surveyed said that Palin was more intelligent in the debate compared to the 57 percent who chose Biden, according to the poll of 611 adult Americans, who tuned in to watch it. The poll had a sampling error of 4 points.
The conclusions of those surveyed in the CNN poll cannot be welcome news for the McCain-Palin campaign, but Republicans have to be happy with Palin's performance which was gaffe-free even as it was short on substance. Full coverage of the debates
The theme of the debate was change as Palin and Biden sought to convince voters that they would, respectively, shake up the status quo in Washington, a popular theme as approval ratings for the president and Congress are dismally low. On this point, Biden, a 35-year veteran of the Senate was more successful in selling this message. Fifty-three percent of debate watchers said that Biden seemed more likely to bring change than the 42 percent who chose Palin.
Another troubling number for Palin is that only 46 percent of the debate watchers said she was qualified to be president, compared to the 87 percent who picked Biden after the debate

from Joe:
Pam --
If you saw tonight's debate, you saw Governor Sarah Palin give a spirited defense of the same disastrous policies that have failed us for the past eight years.
She couldn't identify a single area where she or John McCain would change George W. Bush's economic or foreign policy positions.
If you want something different, Barack and I need your help.
Will you make a donation right now to bring about the change we need?
The change we need is fixing this broken economy from the bottom up -- not tax breaks for the wealthy and huge corporations that ship U.S. jobs overseas. We need to focus on defeating al Qaeda and the Taliban and restoring America's standing in the world -- not an unending commitment in Iraq.
Let's be clear: Governor Palin and Senator McCain are offering nothing but more of the same failed Bush policies at home and abroad, trying to disguise them in the rhetoric of change.
Americans need real solutions and real change.
We're in this together and there's a lot to do before Election Day. Please make a donation right now to support this campaign for change:
This is the most important presidential election you'll be part of in your life.
Thank you for all that you're doing.
Now let's get to work and change this country,
Joe
sorry, can't provide the link to donate , it has all my personal info already filled in!
WE MUST REBUILD OUR ECONOMY FROM THE BOTTOM UP!
This is the only course of action that includes all Americans and not just the privileged.
This is how communism and fascists operated. The top party officials had all the cars and all the money. The people had NOTHING. In the Soviet Union and the eastern block commie countries, people had to stand in lines at empty stores.
We are heading in this direction and had better wake up.
Has Obama said anything about the military/industrial complex?
President Eisenhower warned us about this danger. We didn't follow his advice and now it is completely out of control.

well, dusty, I have said more than once, these trolls are not here about politics, per se.
They are here because they have guts filled with hate. Hate that they have to spawn somewhere. My belief is that they also go into other types of blogs, like religion, etc, and blast those who have different opinions.
The German has absolutely nothing to do with this country anymore, after giving up his citizenship by staying 30 years in Germany, marrying a German citizen, adopting German kids, etc. Lives in a little city called Neutraubling, which is so boring, he must troll blogs.
When the wind up Barbie last night annouced she wasn't going to answer the questions - why didn't Biden interrupt and say "hey wait a minut, that's not what we agreed to"?
If there is one thing we have to do in the next week is to push, scream, yell and get this Barbie to go head to head, one on one in iterviews on "Meet the Press", "Face the Nation" and everything in between. If she refuses - we have to make it very clear to the American voter that she isn't going to do interviews becasue she has nothing to say.....
Good morning, all.
PamB on October 3, 2008 at 08:41 AM
Pam,
My son was at the debate and said that the crowd turned on her noticeably after Palin issued her edict that the rules didn't apply to her. They felt it disrespected the moderator and showed contempt for the audience who had waiting so long and patiently before the event for a real debate.
I'm sure the GOP sheeple liked her performance, but it was the votes of the Independents and Undecided that McCain needs. I guess their internal focus groups had already told them before the event that this just wasn't going to happen with her as the debater, so she played to the the Republican Base exclusively instead.
As for making no mistakes, I counted at least four with the worst being the way she ended the debate...on a low note. She made that odd remark about wanting to expand the Constitutional powers of the V.P. at the expense of Congress. And then she ignored Biden's personal comments and launched into a stump speech instead of talking personally to the viewer/audience.
The end of a debate is where you connect and where you leave a lasting impression. Whoever coached her must have forgotten to mention the fact or the Beauty Queen was too sure of herself to take the advice.
Those approval ratings for Biden in all the polls taken after the debate are awesome. Obama wins on his judgment alone for picking such a strong, well liked and respected running mate.
McCain has Palin and they deserve each other.
Well dog gone it - wink, wink
it would have been nice if Barbie would have followed the rules and answered the questions last night... oh yeah that's right, she's a Republican and they don't have to follow the rules.... gee whiz - gosh darn it wink wink
Where are the trolls this morning?
Screwum on October 3, 2008 at 09:26 AM
And we've all come to know what happens when the Republicans ignore the rules and deregulate what wise people put into place.
Oversight? That's what you do after the fact when using socialism to fix what your conservative ideology broke within capitalism.
There is a NEW MORNING OPEN THREAD.
