St. Pete Times on McCain and Palin: "Unworthy campaign of lies"

Glad to see that.

It is alarming that many are already calling Todd and Sarah Palin as chosen by God. Bush was said to be called by God and look how that turned out.

Todd and Sarah: "Chosen Vessels of God."

Guys, the republicans over the internet and the talking heads have the uninformed minions believing that fannie and freddie are 100% the reason why the financial markets collapsed and somehow john mccain tried to save it but the dems stopped him.

If barack doesn't nip this in the bud quick it could mean a turn in the electorate. Nobody understands this stuff and they are believing cause obama got 100,000 in donations somehow it is all his fault.

Lou Dobbs has been attacking obama every single night while giving McSame a pass.

I'm getting pissed again. Obama needs to stick it to the republicans and Palin quick.

"ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska's Supreme Court has refused to shut down an ethics investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee.

The decision Thursday sets the stage for state lawmakers to release a report on their investigation Friday. The report could prove to be an embarrassment for Palin and a distraction for John McCain's presidential campaign in the final weeks of the race.

Lawmakers are investigating whether Palin abused her power to settle a family dispute. Her former public safety commissioner says he was dismissed after resisting pressure to fire a state trooper who had gone through nasty divorce from Palin's sister..."

Obama: McCain Wasn't Willing To Say Ayers Attacks "To My Face" (VIDEO)

Well, I am surprised that, you know, we've been seeing some pretty over-the-top attacks coming out of the McCain campaign over the last several days that he wasn't willing to say it to my face.

McCain's been promising his supporters that he'll turn up the heat at the last debate - perhaps he'll bring Ayers up then.

7
dorsano on October 9, 2008 at 07:29 PM

John McCain started smearing Barack Obama about non-existent ties to Fannie Mae in some of his deceptive attack ads. Anonymous smear emails have followed McCain’s lead by fabricating even more connections.

These smears disguise the fact that Barack actually has a sensible, detailed plan to fix the economy — and it’s a much better source of answers than anonymous attack emails.

The non-partisan fact-check website Snopes.com looked into these smears, and their conclusions about Barack and the Fannie Mae executives shouldn’t be surprising: “None of them has (or apparently ever had) ongoing roles with the campaign as chief economic advisors.”

Not an adviser: Frank Raines
Barack estimates that he and Raines have talked for “maybe five minutes” in their lives, and Frank Raines himself even released a statement saying that he is “not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters.”

Not an adviser: Tim Howard
This supposed connection appears to have been made up completely out of thin air. Snopes.com writes, “We haven’t yet found any tangible connection between Tim Howard and the Obama campaign, however, much less any information supporting the claim that Howard is a ‘chief economic adviser’ to Obama.”

Not an adviser: Jim Johnson
Jim Johnson has never held a paid position with Obama for America. He volunteered to help Barack select a vice presidential nominee but stepped down after just one week.

This is for Grain_of_Salt:

The context was Clinton charging Gore with the task of streamlining the bureaucracy and paperwork of the Federal Government (everything filled out in triplicate, etc.), due to his expertise and contact with the movers and shakers in the computer world.

What happened was that instead of poring through thousands of pages of mundane crapola just to see (for example) safety standards for ashtrays (Gore even went on Letterman's show and smashed an ashtray to demonstrate the Federal guidelines...) the info was readilly available as HOT LINKS in some other mundane Bill or Regulation.

(YUP, Al Gore didn't invent the "hot link" he just figured out that thousands of typists didn't need to keep typing the same old shit when they could link to it with 1 click).

Anyway, here's the quote I think you are looking for:

Based on the Presidents challenge, Vice President Gore set out to create a government that “works better, costs less, and gets results Americans care about.” The President asked the Vice President to report on the findings of this National Performance Review within six months. Vice President Gore, however, went far beyond preparing a report and led an effort that evolved into the longest-running and most successful reform effort in U.S. history to date. After the initial report, the NPR team undertook the implementation of the many recommendations, then conducted a second round of reviews in 1995. In the second Clinton-Gore term, NPR changed its mission, approach and name -- to focus on leading a fundamental culture change in the government.oclquote>

I hope the bolded portion helps you, if not, just ask here again and somebody will be happy to be your Google Monkey.

P.S., I HOPE I didn't just help some High Schooler cheat on an assignment.

Regardless, here is the "HOT LINK". (Thanks, Al!!)

I want to know why John McCain is pallin around with criminals? I know the answer, but I'm not gonna tell ya.

Raffaello Follieri agreed not to appeal any sentence of up to five years and three months in prison for his plea to wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. Sentencing was set for Oct. 3.

Prosecutors have said the 30-year-old Follieri posed as the Vatican's representative to the U.S., telling investors that the Roman Catholic church would sell him property at a steep discount.

As part of his plea, he admitted misappropriating at least $2.4 million of investors' money, sending it to foreign personal bank accounts that were disguised as business accounts.

Yet Follieri's ties to McCain's orbit have been largely overlooked by the media. Follieri first met McCain when the Arizona Senator visited Montenegro from August 29-31 as part of a Congressional delegation that included Republican senators Lindsay Graham, Richard Burr, Saxby Chambliss, Mel Martinez and John Sununu. [We'll have more on what else McCain was doing in Montenegro in a forthcoming article in the print edition of The Nation.]

What, exactly, was McCain doing aboard Follieri's yacht? Or put another way, was this McCain's 70th birthday wish--to spend an evening floating on the Adriatic with one of Hollywood's top actresses and her smooth-talking Italian beau?

An even bigger mystery is how Follieri's boat came to be docked in Montenegro on McCain's birthday. According to a journalist in Montenegro, the yacht had been anchored there for several days before McCain's arrival, and only sailed away after McCain boarded. According to Vijesti, locals were told that McCain was meeting "friends from Florida" on the yacht.

McCain aides later confirmed the encounter with Follieri, but said it was "entirely social and nothing came of it." Follieri, they told the New York Daily News, was just a "passing acquaintance." (Though the McCain campaign promise to comment on the encounter, it did not respond to The Nation's request by the time this article was published.)

It must not have seemed that way to Follieri. According to the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, in January 2007 Follieri sent Rick Davis a packet of information on his companies Follieri Capital and Follieri Media, apparently hoping to get financing from Pegasus Capital Advisors, a hedge fund in Connecticut that Davis represented. "Follieri's proposal to Davis had two dimensions to it--first, as an investment opportunity for Davis's fund; but secondly, there was the political dimension, in which Follieri offered to help deliver Catholic votes to McCain," said Claudio Gatti, a reporter for Il Sole 24 Ore, who investigated Follieri for eighteen months.

In February 2007, according to a recent article in the New York

OH, sorry, this is not criminal just Standard Operating Procedure.

Hey Marklof,
Did you forget about this one...

In a bombshell article that is already roiling the presidential race, the New York Times reports that Sen. John McCain has a long-running entanglement with a lobbyist, a series of "potentially embarrassing conflicts of interest" and a "self-contradictory" fundraising operation that he ran through the nonprofit Reform Institute.

According to two former McCain associates who became "disillusioned" with the Senator, McCain admitted to "behaving inappropriately" with telecommunications lobbyist Vicki Iseman. The Times reports that McCain denied allegations of a romantic relationship, and he "declined repeated interview requests, beginning in December. He also would not comment about the assertions that he had been confronted about Ms. Iseman." The article raises several other allegations about McCain's acceptance of corporate favors, private jet rides, corporate contributions, and conflicts of interests with companies that he oversaw as a U.S. Senator.

43

I sent the following to paulson. Of course it won't do any good.

Dear Secretary Paulson,

AIG executives headed out on a taxpayer funded junket to the St. Regis resort in California. While there, they had a blast at our expense. This is outrageous.

The Director who authorized this junket should be fired and every penny spent on this lavish retreat must be returned to the Treasury.

And on another note, Hoover tried bailing out the banks in 1929 and it was an abject failure. Congress put forth a jobs bill to create jobs for the average man and Hoover vetoed it
and the nation sunk into the Great Republican Depression of 1929.

When Roosevelt took office shortly thereafter, he resurrected the bill and it was a success.

We have lost over 5,000,000 jobs during your bush's failed administration. bush is a total failure at everything he does and he will go down in history as the worst president of all time.

To get us out of this neocon mess we must start to rebuild the economy from the bottom up like Roosevelt did.

We must pass a jobs bill to provide jobs rebuilding our infrastructure and developing a green economy.

We must double the minimum wage.

We must return to the income tax rates that prevailed up until the raygun administration.

We must encourage unionization instead of eliminating unions.

To help businesses, we must have universal health care.

We must double unemployment compensation.

We must put tariffs on all imported goods like most other countries. this will force businesses to resurrect our manufacturing base and create jobs. Under the various trade bills we have lost most of our manufacturing capabilities. I truly don't know how we are going to survive the upcoming Great Republican Depression of 2009.

Let's help the American poeople for a change and not your rich dude friends. You people obviously do not care about America or Americans.

We also need universal college education free to anyone who wants to attend. We must produce more engineers and scientists if we are to survive.

We need subsidized child care.

We need universal senior care.

I could go on and on.

Face it, Reaganomics is a failed policy forced on us by a two-bit actor. IT IS DEAD! BURY IT DAMNIT!

Let's help the average American for a change.

I sent the following to my neocon senator.

My patience with mccain and palin is running very thin. They are out there spreading utter lies about Obama.

They are inciting people to riot at every town hall meeting. At a recent meeting mccain had the audience so stirred up that several of them yelled that Obama was a terrorist. Of course mccaiin did not say a word thereby encouraging this horrendous bechavior.

At another rally, palin got the audience so stirred up against Obama that someone yelled KILL HIM. Again she did not say a word thereby giving her consent to the act.

I for one will not tolerate mccain disrespecting a fellow senator. He should be severely censured by the senate immediately.

With palin there is no excuse.

If anything happens to Obama, mccain and palin must be charged with murder and treason.

I am so sick of their damn rovian lies.

There are reports that state officials are removing millions of people from the voter rolls(mostly Democrats). This appears to be happening in at least six battleground states. The Justice Department must immediately investigate these claims. I for one am not going to sit still and allow the republicans to steal yet another election like they did in 2000 and 2004 with the help of rove and the justice department. I feel that these are treasonous acts and should be punished accordingly.

People are fed up with this the most viscious election campaign I have seen in all my 72 years. Your (republican) party is a disgrace to civilized people throughout the world. The people will not take much more of the lying, innuendos, name calling and incitement to riot.

It is your duty as one of my senators to act and put a stop to this intolerable behavior of the republican party.

Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which, since the 1970s, has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States.

And while McCain's motto -- as seen in a new TV ad -- is "Country First," the AIP's motto is the exact opposite -- "Alaska First -- Alaska Always."

After refraining from commenting on the charge for a day, the McCain campaign on Tuesday asserted that Palin was never a member of the AIP.

But Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, tells ABC News that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.

Lawmaker Accused of Fannie Mae Conflict of Interest
Friday, October 03, 2008
By Bill Sammon

WASHINGTON — Unqualified home buyers were not the only ones who benefitted from Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank’s efforts to deregulate Fannie Mae throughout the 1990s.

So did Frank’s partner, a Fannie Mae executive at the forefront of the agency’s push to relax lending restrictions.

Now that Fannie Mae is at the epicenter of a financial meltdown that threatens the U.S. economy, some are raising new questions about Frank's relationship with Herb Moses, who was Fannie’s assistant director for product initiatives. Moses worked at the government-sponsored enterprise from 1991 to 1998, while Frank was on the House Banking Committee, which had jurisdiction over Fannie.

Both Frank and Moses assured the Wall Street Journal in 1992 that they took pains to avoid any conflicts of interest. Critics, however, remain skeptical.

"It’s absolutely a conflict," said Dan Gainor, vice president of the Business & Media Institute. "He was voting on Fannie Mae at a time when he was involved with a Fannie Mae executive. How is that not germane?

"If this had been his ex-wife and he was Republican, I would bet every penny I have - or at least what’s not in the stock market - that this would be considered germane," added Gainor, a T. Boone Pickens Fellow. "But everybody wants to avoid it because he’s gay. It’s the quintessential double standard."

A top GOP House aide agreed.

"C’mon, he writes housing and banking laws and his boyfriend is a top exec at a firm that stands to gain from those laws?" the aide told FOX News. "No media ever takes note? Imagine what would happen if Frank’s political affiliation was R instead of D? Imagine what the media would say if [GOP former] Chairman [Mike] Oxley’s wife or [GOP presidential nominee John] McCain’s wife was a top exec at Fannie for a decade while they wrote the nation’s housing and banking laws."

Well, I finally got McPalin's homeowner's bailout plan -
Funds provided by Congress in recent financial market stabilization bill can be used for this purpose; indeed by stabilizing mortgages it will likely be possible to avoid some purposes previously assumed needed in that bill.

So this is what some said initally, part of the bill that had already passed. McCain wants to change the bill he voted for and then said Bush should veto - Uncle Ziggy just took another turn on the Zig Zag express

Maybe bush will have to declare war on Alaska.

MC CAIN ON IRAQ: The Dangerous Losing Attitude

McCain said if America leaves Iraq and Iraq falls apart we will lose standing in the region and the world. This dangerously forfeit’s the Iraqi Governments ability to blame America if Iraq does fall apart when America leaves instead of holding them accountable for regional political compromise.

Mc Cain's ‘losing attitude’ also might feed the Iraqi people blaming past America policy if they their selves let chaos happen ‘whenever’ America leaves. Instead, America should encourage the Iraqi Government and Iraqi people to rely on their own military with their billion dollar surplus. That would help to hold people of every sect in Iraq accountable for their own behavior and attitudes towards violence as a bargaining tool.

Worse, McCain’s attitude suggests to Al Qaeda that they could still redeploy and challenge America in the war against terrorism after we leave Iraq and that the world might look upon it as somehow Al Qaeda winning instead of like Iraq’s own battle with Al Qaeda.

Personally, since most people in Iraq still think it is partly O.K. or all O.K. to kill American’s, I don’t want our soldiers standing on their street corners risking their lives fighting for Iraqi’s lives anymore.

If others in Iraq don’t want to work 100% with us for the life within us all and Al Qaeda is not organized in Iraq right now, isn't it not about what life is not worth to Iraqi’s rather than what life is worth to the rest of us?

John McCain in 2000 said because of tactical decisions U.S. troops were put in the position of killing civilians in Kosovo — something awfully similar to the comments he's now attacking Barack Obama for.

During a Republican primary debate in 2000 McCain called the Clinton strategy in Kosovo "obscene" because it forced troops into using tactics that meant civilians were going to get killed.

"In the most obscene chapter in recent American history is the conduct of the Kosovo conflict when the president of the United States refused to prepare for ground operations, refused to have air power used effectively because he wanted them flying -- he had them flying at 15,000 feet where they killed innocent civilians because they were dropping bombs from such -- in high altitude."

That is almost exactly what Barack Obama said last year about U.S. troops in Afghanistan, when he said the U.S. strategy has led to air strikes rather than controlling the ground — a remark that McCain, in a new ad announced this week, calls "dishonorable."

John McLame,

While Bush tried to fix his fathers wrong and Mc Cain tries to fix Bush’s wrong in Iraq, will Afghanistan let the Democratic Party fix America’s wrong in not first helping Afghanistan to rebuild their government properly. By NOW giving credit to the Afghani people for still loving authority in government no matter how they were once abused by the Taliban or recently neglected by The United States!

I paraphrase, " when unions negotiate wage packages, health benefits are part of that wage package and should be taxed."

So as if the unions haven't suffered enough with jobs going overseas and Bush busting now he wants to tax those "gold plated cadillac" benefits.

Last week, amid concerns about an uptick in the number of requests for verification, Social Security Commissioner Michael Astrue sent a letter to officials in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio seeking to verify that the checks were run only on new voters who don't have acceptable identification. States have said the increase in checks is due partly to a stream of new voters coming in to register.

Sorry for the shout but IF YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY RECORD DOES NOT MATCH YOU COULD BE PURGED FROM THE VOTING RECORDS.

I can't say this strongly enough. If you have married but didn't change your social security card or if you have a nick name or middle name on one record you could be purged.

Alabama did a driver's license match, and an elderly neighbor who has always used her middle name was given a real hassle by the DMV.

PLEASE MAKE CERTAIN YOU AND EVERYONE YOU KNOW HAVE NOT BEEN PURGED BECAUSE OF MATCH WITH SOCIAL SECURITY RECORDS.

Good evening, all.

Anderson Cooper had his chorus of financial whiz kids on tonight talking about how you can make a killing in the current market...if you have a lot of available cash. (I kid you not. They think we have hit bottom for some reason which none of them can explain why.)

Now who would have a lot of available cash lying around? Of course, the filthy rich whose financial companies we are bailing out after they left taking their golden parachutes and stock options.

Like my husband said tonight this is a great time for slum lords to to buy up undervalued properties and rent them back to their former owners for more than they were originally paying on those sub prime loans.

The rich get richer and the poor pay higher taxes to bail out the rich. It's a better scam than the pyramid scheme they were running before this crash.

I say we add so many taxes on the rich in this country that they actually leave and renounce their citizenship for good.

That's one way of throwing the money lenders out of the temple and never having to deal with them ever again. It would be worth the initial financial hit, imho. Let's outsource the lying, scheming Republican bastards to some other unsuspecting country.

Chicago and newsjunkie,

Ali Belshi(sp?) on CNN said that our stock market still has some intrinsic worth. Can it be much since the GOP off shored much of it during the last 30 years?

Truly, what do we still have left besides some tech, medical, mining, and transportation? I don't consider Disneyland, Walmart, and McDonalds as of much value. We have little manufacturing and scientific research being done here any longer. The financial products we developed were all scams.

Why would anybody want to buy anything we might try to sell them after this meltdown in real estate and banking speculation?

Our intrinsic worth is about as valuable as McCain's experience.

Hopefully the younger among us have learned a good lesson from this experience. It's pretty obvious that a large percentage of my generation is incapable of admitting who cheated them out of their retirement.

I'd suggest that at the next Palin rally they lock in all those conservative values voters and let Dr. Phil do an intervention. They're still in denial over how they were betrayed by the Reagan Revolution.

"What were you thinking? Snap out of it and take some responsibility for your greed and prejudices. You were sucker punched by the GOP Contract with America."

"The Unborn don't want your help. You're a bunch of unfit perspective grandparents. Get some counseling and come back when you are ready to be good and ashamed of yourself."

Thank you, Dr. Phil.

What? They just announce today they are shutting down, 26 days before an election to update their databases, we have 10's of thousands being purged from the swing states and the MSM wants to talk about some people that filled out too many forms?

Certainly Obama Team is on this one, they aren't going to put up with this shit. I'll guarentee you that.

Goodnight Sandy.

NEWSJUNKIE, All states where voter purging has taken place should be eliminated from the vote and not counted.

All the other states should be counted vote for vote and the winner should be by popular vote. To hell with electoral votes.

Of course, the supreme court would probably disagree with this and appoint mccain. Then we would have a decision to make whether to march on Washington and demand redress.

John, Barack is soo organized, I guess community organizing not only helps communities, without a govt. paycheck, but also teaches one how to organize. With the team he has and his knowledge of the constitution, I'll bet he will be sending people down to take a look at this. Possibly filing a lawsuit.

The state that appears to have purged two for every new registration, if true, there is a stinker there for sure.

By law, I thought they can't purge anyone already on the rolls 90 days before the election.

I guess we will see what happens.

Thursday 16 October 2008

by: Tim Dickinson, Rolling Stone

A closer look at the life and career of John McCain reveals a disturbing record of recklessness and dishonesty.
At Fort McNair, an army base located along the Potomac River in the nation's capital, a chance reunion takes place one day between two former POWs. It's the spring of 1974, and Navy commander John Sidney McCain III has returned home from the experience in Hanoi that, according to legend, transformed him from a callow and reckless youth into a serious man of patriotism and purpose. Walking along the grounds at Fort McNair, McCain runs into John Dramesi, an Air Force lieutenant colonel who was also imprisoned and tortured in Vietnam.
McCain is studying at the National War College, a prestigious graduate program he had to pull strings with the Secretary of the Navy to get into. Dramesi is enrolled, on his own merit, at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in the building next door.
There's a distance between the two men that belies their shared experience in North Vietnam - call it an honor gap. Like many American POWs, McCain broke down under torture and offered a "confession" to his North Vietnamese captors. Dramesi, in contrast, attempted two daring escapes. For the second he was brutalized for a month with daily torture sessions that nearly killed him. His partner in the escape, Lt. Col. Ed Atterberry, didn't survive the mistreatment. But Dramesi never said a disloyal word, and for his heroism was awarded two Air Force Crosses, one of the service's highest distinctions. McCain would later hail him as "one of the toughest guys I've ever met."
On the grounds between the two brick colleges, the chitchat between the scion of four-star admirals and the son of a prizefighter turns to their academic travels; both colleges sponsor a trip abroad for young officers to network with military and political leaders in a distant corner of the globe.
"I'm going to the Middle East," Dramesi says. "Turkey, Kuwait, Lebanon, Iran."
"Why are you going to the Middle East?" McCain asks, dismissively.
"It's a place we're probably going to have some problems," Dramesi says.
"Why? Where are you going to, John?"
    "Oh, I'm going to Rio."
"What the hell are you going to Rio for?"
McCain, a married father of three, shrugs.
"I got a better chance of getting laid."
Dramesi, who went on to serve as chief war planner for U.S. Air Forces in Europe and commander of a wing of the Strategic Air Command, was not surprised. "McCain says his life changed while he was in Vietnam, and he is now a different man," Dramesi says today. "But he's still the undisciplined, spoiled brat that he was when he went in."

You know, I don't know why the McCain camp bothers trying to link Sen. Obama with anyone when we Democrats have the best ammo of all, we just link McCain with the biggest 'terrist' that ever lived - that's right, the one, the only, DUB!
Just keep punching home that McCain was all for the invasion and occupation of Iraq. He, like Dub, was 'convinced' that we would be greated as "liberators."
Talk about "pallin' around" with bad company and exercising poor judgement! Yep, McCain wins the prize for having the worst and most embarrassing buds.

Hybrid! Wow - I haven't 'seen' you in forever! What is your 'rant' for today? Mine? I want Sen. Obama to look J. McCain in the eye at the next debate and say something like "John, can you please - in simple but exact terms - enumerate the exact definition of 'victory' in Iraq. What benchmarks have a 'realistic' chance of being met that have not yet been met? Please explain for me and the taxpayers who are all footing the bill for this. What is left to be done that has a chance of being done and how will leaving our troops in harms way help to accomplish this? Wouldn't that be a fun question?

marymac_memphis on October 10, 2008 at 01:22 AM

Hello Marymac_memphis,

How is everything? I sincerely hope you are out of the market. The Japanese market is collapsing down 10% at opening.

Last week I went to the library and read 25-30 papers on obscure economics and learned the senate and the president knew about this down fall for over two years.

The overall debt level is $64 Trillion. The current default are on $6-$10 Trillion of these toxic Credit Debt Swaps. For all intensive purpose these are insurance on Mortgage
Backed Securities. The market has disposed of enough asset to secure $1.5 trillion of the debt and require another $6 to $8 Trillion to clear all the debt. That means the market can go down to Dow 6000 to 7000. The $700 Billion bought the USA 10 to 12 months of time in interest payments before full-out default set's in. I think the way they are selling and clearing assets the USA market may reach it goals of clearing the debts before the liquidity runs out.

I hope this information is useful. Please protect yourself.

HybridFuel on October 10, 2008 at 01:22 AM

Marymac,

I missed you too. For some reason it was very difficult for me to log on the last several months.

Well...my neighbors elected me to the Democratic precinct officer. It was by accident. I was at the Democratic caucus and I sat next to the ballots. Since I arranged many of the functions for the neighborhood; the group asked me to be the precinct representative. Well they signed me up. Next thing you know I am on the ballot to be the Democratic Precinct Officer for this area.

I need to clean up my act for certain!

Bless my neighbors for thinking my potty mouth is useful in combating the republicans.

132
HybridFuel on October 10, 2008 at 01:30 AM

Thanks Hybrid. I will pass along that info; however, I am actually in good shape but I do appreciate your thinking of me and for sharing your hard earned research. In anticipation of the Re-thugs winning, not only the White House, but retaining control of both houses of congress, I converted most everything that I had in the market to gold back in Dec. of 1999. I figured that I could convert back if I was wrong. All of my retirement and 401K accounts were switched to the same as regular passbook savings accounts.
Basically, I told anyone and everyone that would listen to me that we would be at war within Bush's first term and he would destroy the economy by the end of his second term. None of my republican friends want to run into me right now! LOL
I try not to rub it in too much - just a little 'jab' now and again hee, hee, hee!

133
marymac_memphis on October 10, 2008 at 01:36 AM

Mary,

My district has couple hundred people with about 30% Democrats, 30% Republicans and 30% indepentents.

I was able to convert some 8 people in my district from republicans to become independents and support democratic candidates. I think that OK; to be able to convert 4% of my voting public to become independents from being republicans and supporting democratic candidates.

I've been walking door to door and softly talking to people. If you saw me in person, you woulding think I am who I am. In person I am quite mild, according to my wife. ...but on-line at a blog, my alternate personality kicks in!!

I hope you are doing well.

134
HybridFuel on October 10, 2008 at 01:37 AM

Congratulations! That is great. My friends and neighbors would never even consider electing me to any position. My temper is almost as bad as McCain's and my husband has (jokingly) threatened to put a muzzle on me. He's Mr. Laid Back and I'm the one running around and yelling and stressing! We make a great pair!

Hi Mary,

Yup, same with me, I am all cash or T-bills. Don't go back into the market until it drops below 7000, OK? Things are going to get much worst before getting better.

I heard gold and a shovel is the next stock trend. IE. Digging a hole in the back yard to bury the gold!

136
HybridFuel on October 10, 2008 at 01:41 AM

I'll give you the same advice that my husband has given me: "Honey," he says as gently as possible, "you have a better chance of getting them to listen to your point of view if you don't scream at them and call them stupid fools or idiots." "They respond much better if you hear them out first and them keep your voice conversational while you respectfully disagree with them."
To which I usually respond "I know - I know!" and stomp off.
It's really kind of funny. He just shakes his head and smiles. He told one groupd "That's what I first fell in love with - her passion."

137
marymac_memphis on October 10, 2008 at 01:45 AM

I know that you were joking about the 'gold and shovel' thing but honestly about 6 or 7 months ago, I converted a small amount (a few hundred dollars) to gold coin which I keep in the gun safe - just in case. What is happening right now is absolutely unprecidented in the history of this country and I just feel better being as prepared as possible. Call me crazy but it's what helps me sleep with less worry.

Mary, and Hybridfuel,

Hybridfuel, I too thank you for the info. Mary, did you go to the debate in Nashville? My sister bought 14 gold coins in 1999 right before the millienum for about 300 a piece, in June they were at 850. I should have bought gold also.

I love the new spell checker red line thingy, except ever since I moved to the south, I have lost all touch with my vowels. If I listen to Palin speak anymore I will lose all sense of a sentence.

140
newsjunkie on October 10, 2008 at 01:55 AM

On to a different subject, have you been watching the 'spot on' imitations of S. Palin by Tina Fey on SNL.
We had gone out to dinner with some friends and I told everyone that we had to go home early to watch it. A waiter overheard me and came over and told me not to worry, they had it on in the bar! The whole restaurant stopped what they were doing - customers, waiters, bar tenders, chefs, everyone - and we all crowded into the bar area to watch it. It was so great!

141
marymac_memphis on October 10, 2008 at 01:55 AM

News: I am actually closer to Ole Miss than I am to Nashville; but, I was unable to go to either debate. I did; however, go out to the airport here in Memphis and have the opportunity to shake hands with Sen. Obama after his plane landed. This is going to sound corny but it's almost like he is surrounded by a corona or something etheral. I got to shake hands with President Clinton and by accident - not design - with Pres. Reagan and never have I had such a profound sense of goodness as I did when I met Sen. Obama. I hope everyone of Sen. Obama's supporters gets the chance to shake his hand or meet him in person. It's not something that you will easily forget!

marymac_memphis on October 10, 2008 at 02:07 AM

Mary, It is really bad. Some of the people I know who were working the trading floor for 20 years and had to take all the options trade were scared. These guys are never scared, they had billions backing their trades. They were the 7-11's of midnight beer sales and they got scared.

They were the ones who told reluctantly told me and verified what I had read was real.

These people made 80,000 to 150,000 trades per day are getting scared.

So, I figured if they are scared, I better get out and wait.

After reading many many rediculous papers on economics and statistics, my brain is damaged forever; I learned of the information I passed on to you.

The bottom line.

1) The crazies mixed the good and bad loans together to try to creat a composite "AAA" bond with less than 1% default. They failed because the default rate is 6%-7%-10%...

2) The crazies thought they can double their profits by selling themselves insurance on the bonds they issues. Ie. See Gramm-Leach-Bleley Act which repealed most of Glass-Steagall(sp). So as the bonds failed due to 6-8% default, their insurance portfolios tanked. That's the toxic waste they want to sell to the tax payers. If you buy it your have the obligations to pay off the entire defaulted bond! Effectively they are trying to sell the government the right to pay-off their debt. Who in their crazy mind will pay money to purchase an obligation to pay-off someone elses debt!!??

3) The crazies used the Enron-loop hole to sell this toxic waste paper between their off book partnerships back to themselves without incuring tax on the sales because it was a trade in asset, to reapprase the toxic asset at a higher value. They the nut jobs borrowed against this phantom asset appreciation. It's like a father and son selling a hot rod between themselves then found a crazy bank to loan against the assumed value,"Mark to Market" value given by the father and son. They found the banker a willing partner to continue loaning the father than the son than the father more money on the same delapitated car that is not running in the garage!!

Now these con-artist want the Tax payer to pay for 1) The mortgage back security, 2) the insurance on the toxic asset and 3) put up with the con-job "mark to market" value of the toxic waste paper called republican investments!

144
HybridFuel on October 10, 2008 at 02:08 AM

So, forgive my english and typing, I am getting a little tipsy with the wine.

1) I think the Democrats are getting wind of all this BS and not buying into the presidents bull.

2) They have to clear $6-$8 Trillion dollars in debt. The market will continue to sell off until they raise enough capital to prevent the default on the bonds. USA have never defaulted on a bond therefore the republican better not try. We have enough cash. ...but everyone know we have to sell therefore they are waiting for the bargain. That is why the price is falling. No one with lots of money is going to buy because they know the USA banks have to sell to pay off their debt!!!

What they don't understand is if they wait, the USA banks can start and will start to sell off assets in other countries!

If they wait for the better price their own asset will not be worth anything.

It's the reverse of the liars bluff to see who would blink first to buy as they watch each other get closer and closer to the cliff!

The local NBC station just got done with their morning cut away interview with their CNBC Business reporter. The guy was white as a ghost.

The Markets are tanking.

Russia and another country stopped ALL trading early and told everyone to go home.

Japan had its worst day in the history of their market. Australia and France are tanking, too.

Meanwhile here at home:

This is the worst economic year since 1937 and the longest Bear market since 1973.

Regardless of how the day ends this will go down as the worst week in the 112 year history of the Dow Jones average.

There is serious talk of a "Bank Holiday" like what FDR did in the thirties. Banks would completely shut down for a few days until someone sorts all this shit out.

He said that if you have money, keep it. If you can save a little DO IT.

I guess this will put the kibosch on Chimpy's "Go shopping" speech he is going to give today.

In other news, that this guy didn't mention:

Iceland is bankrupt. Their money is worth ZERO and they have announced that they will probably have to default on all their international obligations prompting the British Prime Minister to warn that he would seize all assets of all companies registered to Iceland doing business in England.

And nuclear armed Pakistan, which is overrun with al Qaeda and Taliban is about one month away from going bankrupt.

Heck of a job, Chimpy!

Maybe another mccain tax cut for the rich will do the trick and it will trickle down and make things all better. The rich will create phantom jobs and put phantonm food on the table. What a solution.

I wonder what mccain will say today? How low can we sink as a nation.

I also blame the religious fanatics who put raygun and the bush's in office. They are praying for the rapture and the red neck neocon lemings are at the precipice of the cliff.

I heard on Wednesday that this guy in L.A. was so despondent about losing his job and the pending loss of his home that he killed his mother-in-law, his three kids, his wife and himself. That's despondent. Thanks bush and mccain.

I wonder how many people are going to jump off buildings in Wall Street?

Most of them cashed in for gold or diamonds and left the rest of us - acording to the neocon precept, to forage for ourselves.

Good luck. I know we can get a second job or go shopping with our credit cards.

Although I am not going by polls this time, like last election, things like this give me a smile!

"Obama's edge has expanded amid intensifying economic fears as financial markets have tumbled this week. Half of the polling, conducted Monday through Thursday, was done after Tuesday's second presidential debate.

"Obama is benefiting from the terrible economic news and what was seen to be a relatively poor debate performance by McCain," pollster John Zogby said.

McCain, 72, a former Navy fighter pilot and Vietnam prisoner of war, fell behind Obama among voters with a member of the military in their family. The Arizona senator runs even with Obama among voters older than 65.

"McCain is not doing well with the groups he needs to succeed," Zogby said. "We're not ready to call it a tailspin, but he is slipping."

Obama, an Illinois senator, has solidified his lead in most national polls in recent weeks as the Wall Street crisis focused attention on the economy, where polls show voters have more faith in Obama's leadership.

Let's see how much guts and integrity these guys have !!

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Sworn to secrecy, Alaska lawmakers have begun reviewing a lengthy and politically sensitive investigative report focusing on whether Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her authority as governor.

The first-term Alaska governor has been accused of firing a state commissioner to settle a family dispute. But the report is also expected to touch on whether Palin's husband meddled in state affairs and whether her administration inappropriately accessed employee medical records.

The inquiry, approved by a legislative committee's bipartisan vote, began before Republican presidential nominee John McCain named Palin his running mate. Since then, the case has been dogged by accusations of political influence.

The investigation focuses on her firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan. Monegan says Palin and her husband pressured him to fire Mike Wooten, a state trooper involved in a nasty divorce and custody dispute with the governor's sister. When Monegan resisted, he says, he was fired.

Palin's critics say that shows she used her office to settle family affairs.

Panic attacks: Voters unload at GOP rallies

The raw emotions worry some in the party who believe the broader swath of swing voters are far more focused on their dwindling retirement accounts than on Obama’s background and associations and will be turned off by footage of the McCain events.

John Weaver, McCain’s former top strategist, said top Republicans have a responsibility to temper this behavior.

“People need to understand, for moral reasons and the protection of our civil society, the differences with Senator Obama are ideological, based on clear differences on policy and a lack of experience compared to Senator McCain,” Weaver said. “And from a purely practical political vantage point, please find me a swing voter, an undecided independent, or a torn female voter that finds an angry mob mentality attractive.”

“Senator Obama is a classic liberal with an outdated economic agenda. We should take that agenda on in a robust manner. As a party we should not and must not stand by as the small amount of haters in our society question whether he is as American as the rest of us. Shame on them and shame on us if we allow this to take hold.”

In speaking with the Mexican construction workers I work with on my projects I gather that conditions in Mexico are as bad as they are heading here.

The rich have everything and the poor have nothing. This is why they keep crossing the border. The rich Mexicans hate the poor Mexicans who have Aztec blood.

The neocons here hate them too but for convenience use them as slave labor. They try to do the same to the blacks and keep them down.

In this 21st century, we should not tolerate this type of behavior. Why isn't bush speaking out against this lack of democracy in Mexico. They have oil. Could it be because we don't want to rock the boat. If these people were brought up to the standard of living we used to enjoy, the rich wouldn't have anymore slave labor.

I am getting such a kick of this latest attempt by the trolls and the Repugs trying to use ACORN against the Democrats!!!

Do these fools think we forgot Florida? The caravans of bus loads of Nasty mean Republicans down there to pound on walls of the ballot counters? The intimidation ? The pressure on the Right wing Court to not allow the counting?

THEN, in 2004, the voter Fraud. The intimidation in large cities of the poor voters. Remember how after the election, the congress even held public meetings where people came in and testified how they were cheated out of their voters, their registrations had been destroyed, they were told lies about when and where to vote!

Yet, now they try and link this ACORN thingy to Obama ! Hypocrites!!!!! Dirty fraudulent things like voter fraud are ok, as long as it is done by and for Republican benefit!

Here's a bit of good news. The money market funds are being protected like banks protect deposits.

Fortunately I took the advice of an advisor from the company that holds my 401K to switch to money market funds when I retired six years ago.

Money-market funds flock to guarantee program

Bible Spice is John Cole's description of the Pug candidates. Johnny Drama and Bible Spice.

Kind of a take off on the old "girl group" the Spice Girls, where they all used stupid names like Sleazy Spice, Scary Spice, Posh Spice and Goofy Spice, or whatever just to have a gimmick to cover up for their lack of talent.

Posh Spice married that soccer player that the LA team paid a fortune for who was supposed to make soccer more popular than the NFL, but he only scored 1 goal in his first year or two.

So, I guess he is Bust Spice, just like Grampy Grumpy.

Pam - the repuklicans will do anything to keep power. That is why they are so openly pissed off at the Palin/McCreepy rallies.

What goes around - comes around. Now they know how we have been feeling like for the last 8+ years. I don't feel sorry for them one bit - they can all kiss my ass.

What I'm really pissed at right now is that these same idots want to vote another 4 years into the WH. The repukilcans and ONLY the repukilcans are responsable for the mess we're in. We're heading for a world wide depression. That's the truth plain and simple. I hope to god that not another repukilcan is voted into office for the next 40 years!

Screwum on October 10, 2008 at 09:12 AM

wonder WHY they are so against ACORN??

• In 2007-2008 ACORN has already helped register over 1.27 million people nationwide.
• The majority of ACORN registrants are low-income, about 75% are African-American, 25% are Latino and 50% are under 30 years old.

(Now if these were potential McCain voters, do you think they would give a damn?? Not hardly)

About Allegations Against Acorn
• In a few cases ACORN has caught part-time workers falsifying cards in an attempt to get paid for doing work they didn’t do. When this happens, ACORN fires the workers involved, alerts election officials and law enforcement about the problem, and cooperates fully and enthusiastically with investigations and persecutions.
• Such cases constitute employee fraud, not election fraud.
• Nearly all of the former ACORN workers who have ever been investigated or convicted were uncovered and turned-in by ACORN itself.

The caravans of bus loads of Nasty mean Republicans down there to pound on walls of the ballot counters?

PamB on October 10, 2008 at 09:01 AM

Isn't mean nasty republicans an oxymoron?

They haven't changed a bit. Whatever happened to respect for each other? It has been trampled by the neocon "every man for himself" mentality.

Their philosophy is that a real man swills beer, kills things, plays football, drives race cars and hides HIS money under a matress. They also don't respect women.

Buckle your Seat belts, folks, the ride is just beginning ! Even the Repugs have no defense for this!! REMEMBER, if this was an unusual HIGH in the markets, they would be taking Credit for it! SO THEY WILL TAKE CREDIT FOR THIS RECESSION, DAMN IT, IT WAS DONE ON THEIR REPUG PRESIDENT'S WATCH!!!

NEW YORK - Wall Street headed to another huge decline Friday, extending a global sell-off on concerns that even low interest rates won't help end the worsening credit crisis. Dow Jones industrials futures plunged 400 points ahead of the opening bell in New York.

Frozen credit markets and a loss of confidence in the world's financial system have caused the Dow to drop 21 percent in just 10 trading days. The blue chip index tumbled 678 points Thursday, and is heading to its worst weekly point drop, and one of its biggest weekly percentage drops, since being created 112 years ago.

Going into Friday's session, losses for the year add up to a staggering $8.3 trillion, according to preliminary figures measured by the Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 Composite Index, which tracks 5,000 U.S.-based companies representing almost all stocks traded in the U.S.

The underpinnings of the corrupt campaign of Barack Hussein Obama II continues to unravel:

Thousands of voter registration forms faked, officials say

From Drew Griffin and Kathleen Johnston
CNN Special Investigations Unit

CROWN POINT, Indiana (CNN) -- More than 2,000 voter registration forms filed in northern Indiana's Lake County by a liberal activist group this week have turned out to be bogus, election officials said Thursday.
The group -- the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN -- already faces allegations of filing fraudulent voter registrations in Nevada and faces investigations in
other states.

And in Lake County, home to the long-depressed steel town of Gary, the bipartisan Elections Board has stopped processing a stack of about 5,000 applications delivered just before the October 6 registration deadline after the first 2,100 turned out to be phony.
"All the signatures looked exactly the same," Ruthann Hoagland, a Republican on the board. "Everything on the card filled out looks exactly the same."
The forms included registrations submitted in the names of the dead -- and in one case, the name of a fast-food restaurant, Jimmy Johns. Sally LaSota, a Democrat on the board, called the forms fraudulent and said whoever filed them broke the law.
"ACORN, with its intent, perhaps was good in the beginning, but went awry somewhere," LaSota said.
Over the past four years, a dozen states have investigated complaints of fraudulent registrations filed by ACORN. On Tuesday, Nevada authorities raided an ACORN office in Las Vegas, Nevada, where workers are accused of registering members of the Dallas Cowboys football team. And the group has become the target of Republican attacks on voter fraud, a perennial GOP issue.
A subsidiary of the group was paid $800,000 by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign to register voters for the 2008 primaries, and ACORN's political wing endorsed Obama back in February. But Obama's campaign told CNN that it "is committed to protecting the integrity of the voting process," and said it has not worked with ACORN during the general election.
Brian Mellor, an ACORN attorney in Boston, said the group has its own quality-control process and has fired workers in the past -- including workers in Gary. But he said allegations that his organization committed fraud is a government attempt to keep people disenfranchised.
"We believe their purpose is to attack ACORN and suppress votes," Mellor said. "We believe that by attacking ACORN, they are going to discourage people that have registered to vote with ACORN from voting."
CNN was unable to reach ACORN officials in Gary and in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the group's Indiana operation is based. Offices in both cities were empty when reporters visited.
Lake County elections officials have set aside all 5,000 of the ACORN-submitted applications in what Hoagland called the "fake pile" for later review. But she said every one will be reviewed before the election to make sure no legitimate voters are skipped.
There has been no evidence of voter fraud yet, because voters have yet to go to the polls. But elections officials say they will be sending their information to prosecutors, who will determine whether any investigation will begin.
"We have no idea what the motive behind it is," she said. "It's just overwhelming to us."

======================

And it will continue to fall apart, at Obamas feet.

So the crooks, republican congress, the federal regulators picked by bush, have you believing that two people from the democratic minority over the past 14 years is responsible for the financial meltdown of the world.

Never mind McCain's campaign manager is still on the payroll as a lobbyist for fannie and freddie and has been paid millions to lobby for deregulation. Never mind John McCain is the deregulation King. No, just believe the people that steal from you, it is the democrats fault that bush picked people that wanted this to happen. It was all planned dopey. So bush could come out and bail them all out, they counted on it. Paulson, the treasury secretary, picked by bush ran Shearson leamen, a financial disaster.

You people are hurting our country. Keep believing things that you don't understand by the robber who blames someone else. You disgust me.
