Good evening, all.

Pat Buchanan said it again tonight. "Who cares?" He admits that Republicans are trying to say Obama is not "one of us"...not a "real" American.

That's what the Heritage Foundation crowd is telling their bully boys pundits to do. Just ignore common decency and blatantly act like it's the American way?

I'm sick of Republicans disrespecting our liberal beliefs and calling them unAmerican. How dare they threaten our standard bearer and incite nut cases to think they can publicly yell, "Kill him."

Matthews just said Obama has an immigrant background. No, he doesn't.

He was born in Hawaii and he is an American. His mother and grandparents who raised him were all born in Kansas. His African father abandoned him when he was a baby and he saw him only twice in his entire life. His mother took him to Indonesian as a toddler with her new husband but then brought him back home when he was six years old...and then left him again.

It's sad, but it's an all too familiar story in America today. More than half of marriages end in divorce in this country. Children grow up in one parent homes or with their grandparents. Obama longed his whole life for the stability his grandparents gave him and is determined his marriage and children will realize the American Dream.

How dare people say he is a terrorist or doesn't love his country because he served on a board with other Republicans and Democrats with a man who 27 years earlier had been a radical war activist.

Nobody questions McCain's alliegance to this country when he really wasn't born in the United States and has palled around with domestic terrorists like G. Gordon Libby and lobbyists that represent foreign governments or multinational companies that have sucked American assets out of this country.

The Republicans now represent the worst elements in this country and John McCain sends out Palin everyday to incite their bloodlust. He even sank so low this week that he asked his wife to stoke the fires of hate and prejudice.

We Democrats are Americans and by damned are we going to let the Republicans rile up their nutcase base to violence and then act like they love this country.

McCain tried to correct the problem today by telling his angry mob the truth...after he lied about it for months. It doesn't really matter. If he won't incite them Palin, Limbaugh, Hannity, or Coulter will do it.

The Republicans have stooped too low this time. And McCain has disgraced himself. He is unfit to serve. Independents will give him the defeat he so richly deserves for his lack of honor.

Christopher Buckley, son of William F. Buckley, is backing Obama.

(CNN) — No, hell has not frozen over, but a Buckley is backing a Democrat for president.

Christopher Buckley, the son of the late conservative icon William F. Buckley, said Friday he's decided to back Barack Obama's White House bid, the first time in his life he will vote Democrat.

“It’s a good thing my dear old mum and pup [sic] are no longer alive. They’d cut off my allowance," Buckley, a columnist for the conservative National Review, wrote on the Web site The Daily Beast Friday.

Buckley, who praised McCain in a New York Times Op-Ed earlier this year and defended the Arizona senator's conservative credentials against wary talk-radio hosts, said McCain is no longer the “real” and “unconventional” man he once admired.

"This campaign has changed John McCain," Buckley wrote. "It has made him inauthentic. A once-first class temperament has become irascible and snarly; his positions change, and lack coherence; he makes unrealistic promises, such as balancing the federal budget 'by the end of my first term.' Who, really, believes that?

"Then there was the self-dramatizing and feckless suspension of his campaign over the financial crisis," Buckley added. "His ninth-inning attack ads are mean-spirited and pointless. And finally, not to belabor it, there was the Palin nomination. What on earth can he have been thinking?"

But Buckley made clear he's not just voting against McCain, praising Obama for his "first-class temperament and first-class intellect.

"Obama has in him—I think, despite his sometimes airy-fairy 'We are the people we have been waiting for' silly rhetoric—the potential to be a good, perhaps even great leader. He is, it seems clear enough, what the historical moment seems to be calling for," Buckley wrote.

Bush vows not to lift embargo on "dungeon" Cuba
By David Alexander 1 hour, 49 minutes ago
CORAL GABLES, Florida (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush on Friday called Cuba a "dungeon" and vowed Washington would not lift its economic embargo until Havana released political prisoners and allowed free expression.

Speaking to Cuban-Americans on the anniversary of Cuba's independence from Spain in 1868, Bush said his administration offered aid to Havana after the island was hit by devastating hurricanes this year, but the communist government led by President Raul Castro refused.

"That aid was rejected by the Castros, which should tell the people of Cuba and the people around the world that the Castro people are only interested in themselves and their power and not for the benefit and welfare of the Cuban people," Bush told the small group at a Cuban restaurant, Havana Harry's, in a Miami suburb.

Boy, if that is not a case of the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is!

Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on October 10, 2008 at 09:43 PM

Sorry for this long post.

This from Media Matters:

A search* of the Nexis database found that more than 4,500 news reports so far this year have mentioned Obama and Ayers -- more than 1,800 this week alone.

Now: G. Gordon Liddy. Liddy served four and a half years in prison for his role in the break-ins at the Watergate and at Daniel Ellsberg's psychologist's office. He has acknowledged preparing to kill someone during the Ellsberg break-in "if necessary." He plotted to kill journalist Jack Anderson. He plotted with a "gangland figure" to murder Howard Hunt in order to thwart an investigation. He plotted to firebomb the Brookings Institution. He used Nazi terminology to outline a plan to kidnap "leftist guerillas" at the 1972 GOP convention. And Liddy's bad acts were not confined to the early 1970s. In the 1990s, he instructed his radio audience on how to shoot Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents ("Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests." In case anyone missed the subtlety of his point, Liddy also insisted: "Kill the sons of bitches.") During Bill Clinton's presidency, Liddy boasted that he named his shooting targets after the Clintons.

What does Liddy have to do with the presidential election? As Media Matters has noted:

Liddy has donated $5,000 to McCain's campaigns since 1998, including $1,000 in February 2008. In addition, McCain has appeared on Liddy's radio show during the presidential campaign, including as recently as May. An online video labeled, "John McCain On The G. Gordon Liddy Show 11/8/07," includes a discussion between Liddy and McCain, whom Liddy described as an "old friend." During the segment, McCain praised Liddy's "adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great," said he was "proud" of Liddy, and said that "it's always a pleasure for me to come on your program."

McCain even backed Liddy's son's congressional bid in 2000 -- a campaign that relied heavily on the elder Liddy's history.

To sum up: John McCain is "proud" of his "old friend" Gordon Liddy -- an old friend who plotted to kill one of the most respected journalists in American history, and who urged listeners to kill federal agents and advised them on how to do so. McCain campaigned for Liddy's son, and Liddy has even hosted a fundraiser for McCain at his home.

So McCain's relationship with Liddy is pretty much a direct parallel to Obama's relationship with Ayers. Except that McCain and Liddy have apparently spent time together more recently than Obama and Ayers. And Liddy's extremist activities continued well into the 1990s, at least. And Liddy says he and McCain are "old friends," while The New York Times says Obama and Ayers aren't close. And Obama has never said Ayers adheres to "the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great." Other than all that, it's a direct parallel.

Yet even as they obsess over Barack Obama and Bill Ayers -- just as the McCain campaign tells them to -- the news media have all but ignored John McCain's close ties to Gordon Liddy. A Nexis search** finds fewer than 100 news reports that have mentioned McCain and Liddy this year.

As Chicago Tribune columnist Steve Chapman -- who has criticized Obama's relationship with Ayers -- has noted:

Liddy, now a conservative radio host, has never expressed regret for this attempt to subvert the Constitution. Nor has he developed any respect for the law. ... Yet none of this bothers McCain. Liddy has contributed thousands of dollars to his campaigns, held a fundraiser for McCain at his home and hosted the senator on his radio show, where McCain said, "I'm proud of you." Exactly which part of Liddy's record is McCain proud of?

While Obama has gotten lots of scrutiny for his connection to Ayers, McCain has never had to explain his association with Liddy. If he can't defend it, he should admit as much. And if he thinks he can defend it, let him.

* 2008 news reports that mention Obama and Ayers: more than 4,500.

* 2008 news reports that mention McCain and Liddy: fewer than 100.

mary,

I had figured she had made too many enemies. She had to buck the Republican establishment to get elected. And then she pulled all this high school, getting even with the ex brother-in-law crap.

You can't use your office to get even with people or fire staff for things like dating Todd's friend's ex-wife. And these are just two of the cases we know about.

She appointed all kinds of personal friends who didn't have qualifications other than "they like cows?"

She's a great candidate to take over for Ann Coulter (who is getting pretty moldy) on the hate broadcast circuit. And it's a good thing. She's going to be lucky if she gets re-elected.

Well, Well John McCain was forced to say Barack wasn't a muslum and is a decent human being, because it wasn't working.

Yesterday the talking heads were saying, when he realizes it isn't working any more, then he will stop. They said he'd better hurry cause there is only 24 days left and if he waited too long it would be too late.

He didn't do it because he has any honor, he did it because the wack jobs he was attracting to his and palins rally's scared the average, decent, american.

I bet those wacko's are pissed today.

gregg,

So why is McCain still running those inflamatory domestic terrorist Ayers/Obama broadcast ads if he's now telling people at his rallies that Obama is such a decent American?

"Who is Barack Obama? Let me tell the Great War Hero tell you all the ways I intend to spin it."

As usual, opportunist McCain is trying to have it both ways...and stabbing everyone in the back. He's going to allow his campaign to continue to smear Obama, but he's above all that all of a sudden?

I think he's just might be afraid that Obama will wipe up the floor with him at the next debate. This new kinder, more responsible McCain could be a coward? He won't say those nasty lies to Obama's face after he promised his red meat supporters a fight?

No honor and no nerve.

He doesn't fool me any more than the Bush did. They are both McSame.

Let's see how Palin conducts herself this weekend...besides kicking up her heels on SNL. It goes without saying she will ignore the Troopergate findings. But will she disappoint her adoring fans by toning it down? Will they let her?

I thought that the Republicans would unleash the demons from hell for Halloween, but they started partying at their rallies a few weeks too early. They aren't very attractive to Independents by the light of day.

This is truly the biggest Republican nightmare. George Will probably wouldn't have shown up for ABC Sunday Morning if McCain hadn't backed down publicly. McCain is an embarrassment to the Party and to all conservatives.

The McCain campaign has gone the way of the economy. Couldn't have happened to nastier people.

And G. Gordon Liddy used to teach people how to kill Federal agents.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liddy: When the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms thugs come to kill your wife and children, to try to disarm you and they open fire on you. When they come at the point of a gun, force and violence, when you're going to defend yourself, use that Gerand [M-1 rifle]. That thing is 30-06, and it'll take 'em right out.
Caller: And yes, aim for the head.
Liddy: Absolutely.
If Bob Dole, Newt Gingrich or Oliver North missed the Sept. 15 show, the Sept. 6 show would have helped them understand this Republican supporter's character.
Liddy: Arm yourself. Get instructed in how to shoot straight.
Caller: I've got weapons.
Liddy: Absolutely. And don't give 'em up, and don't register either.
Caller: No way. And I'm aiming between the eyes.
Liddy: There you go. That way their flak jackets won't protect them.
news,
That's what scares me. These people get even before they get mad. One of those hot heads is probably taking McCain's performance today as a dare.
The guy who killed Martin Luther King thought he was a big shot hero. The one that killed Bobby Kennedy did it because he thought it was his religious duty.
The right wing nuts now feel they must prove it to all us liberals. Just listen to what our resident troll is saying tonight about Libby.
If someone gets hurt, McCain will be responsible.
And Palin will have to answer to her witch hunter benefactor. I wouldn't want to cross that religious nut job. He laid hands on her and now she's going to make him look like a false prophet?
I'm going to pack it in. I'm canavassing for two candidates tomorrow...the next Democratic Governor of Missouri and President of the United States.
Good night, all.
Once again, folks. Ayers is the "Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois / Chicago" (UIC) on the West Side. (Public University)
Obama taught at the University of Chicago (UC) on the South Side. (Private University)
BTW, UC just got at least 2 more Nobel Prizes this week, thus solidifying its reputation as . I think that puts it over the 80 mark.
These trolls couldn't walk through the campus without having a brain freeze, let alone teach there.
28
Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on October 10, 2008 at 10:54 PM
Well, that link is restricted to only going to the search page, so here's a C & P for the trolls.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Determining which educational institution has claimed the most Nobel Prizes is somewhat complex. If one looks strictly at the number of laureates who have won Nobel Prizes while on the faculty of an institution, the clear winner is Harvard University of Cambridge, Massachusetts, with 32 Nobel Prize laureates from the faculty of Harvard University, the Harvard Medical school, and Harvard's labs in the history of the University until 2006. However, the University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, claims the most Nobel Prizes awarded to faculty, former faculty, and alumni. Affiliates of the University of Chicago have won Nobel Prizes in every field except Peace, with the highest number of laureates in Physics. Seventy-nine laureates in total with ties to the University of Chicago have won Nobel Prizes, and the University touts itself as “Nobel Alley.”

The University of Chicago's first Nobel Prize went to Albert Michelson in 1907 for Physics. Michelson was incidentally the first American to win a Nobel Prize. Michelson won for his work on measurements of the speed of light.

A number of Chicago's Nobel Prizes have been related to nuclear physics, quantum mechanics, and particle research. One of the researchers involved in the Manhattan Project, Enrico Fermi, took home a prize for Physics in 1938. Altogether, 27 individuals associated with the University of Chicago have gone to Sweden to receive Nobel Prizes in Physics.

In Economic Sciences, 23 Nobel Prizes have been awarded to University of Chicago affiliates, beginning with Paul Samuelson in 1970. Other economic winners have included Theodore Schultz, who did extensive research on the economics of developing nations, and Edward Prescott in 2004 for substantial contributions to the body of knowledge on macroeconomics. A number of University of Chicago affiliates have also been recognized for their work on decision-making within economic organizations.

Between 1934 and 2006, the University of Chicago laid claim to fifteen Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, starting with Harold Urey for his work on heavy hydrogen and including Willard Libby, developer of carbon-14 dating, and Paul Crutzen for his work in atmospheric chemistry. In Physiology or Medicine, 11 laureates have been affiliated with the University of Chicago, including Edward Doisy in 1943, who discovered Vitamin K, Hermann Muller in 1946, who linked x-ray radiation with mutations, and James Watson in 1962 for his work on DNA – it should be noted that Watson was working at Harvard University at the time. In Literature, three University of Chicago alumni have won Nobel Prizes: J.M. Coetzee, Saul Bellow, and Bertrand Russell.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not counting the latest few.
And I'll just BET that NONE of them have ever sent $28.00 to the Minnesota Mensa On-Line test to see if they qualify to go in person to take a real sit down one!
I wonder why McLame changed his tactics. He corrected that woman today and told her Obama was not an Arab. He told another man that he should not be afraid of Obama as president. So why the sudden shift? It's got to be one of the following or a combination:
1. McLame is afraid to look Obama in the eye and make these wild claims.
2. McLame saw his numbers dropping in the polls.
3. McLame was feeling guilty
4. Obama has dirt on McLame and he told McLame, either stop it or I start.
5. McLame forgot what he was doing so he forgot to attack Obama today.
6. McLame realizes he has lost this campaign and he wants a seat in Obama's cabinet.
Hmmmmm...
More from CNN Panel: Palin abused power in trooper case
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator's report concluded Friday.
"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states
Rage rising on the McCain campaign trail
"I'm mad. I'm really mad. And what's going to surprise you, it's not the economy. It's the socialists taking over our country," one said.
The "socialist" would be (Bush appointee) Federal Reserve Chairman Bernake who is nationalizing Wall Street and the U.S. banking system.
And Senator John McCain who wants to buy up failing mortgages at inflated prizes and socialize the risk in those mortgages while keeping the profits private.
How delusional can one get?
I watched Larry King Live tonight. One of the Republican fools they had on claimed Obama is going to raise taxes. Larry (to his credit) corrected the fool. Larry said Obama is going to reduce the taxes for 95% of the people. THEN, the republican fool says that Obama is going to raise taxes on those making more than $250,000/yr and he says THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT CREATE JOBS.
Hello? Don't these idiots EVER learn? How many times do these idiots have to fail at the expense of our country using these disproven trickle-down economic policies.
Good Grief, John McCain and Palin incite that Obama is a shady character all week and then today say, "he is a decent human being."
The "fundimentals of the economy are strong" then he says the same day, our economy is a mess.
He's canceling his campaign, but runs ads and Palin continues to hold rally's.
He's canceling the debate, then he shows up.
Who is running his campaign. This is some of the worst advice I've ever seen. I think Rove bailed a couple of weeks ago when palin's nightmare of a life started coming out on the net.
Rove is such a coward, when your going to lose, run.
The Alaska Independence Paryt's creation was inspired by the rabidly violent anti-Americanism of its founding father Joe Vogler, "I'm an Alaskan, not an American," reads a favorite Vogler quote on AIP's current website, "I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." According to Vogler AIP's central purpose was to drive Alaska's secession from the United States. Alaska, says current Chairwoman Lynette Clark, "should be an independent nation."
Vogler was murdered in 1993 during an illegal sale of plastic explosives that went bad. The prior year, he had renounced his allegiance to the United States explaining that, "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government." He cursed the stars and stripes, promising, "I won't be buried under their damned flag...when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home." Palin has never denounced Vogler or his detestable anti-Americanism.
Sometimes, its better to blink. Let someone more qualified take the job.
Driving through the countryside here in the 18th district of Ohio today was so nice. The cornfields are just turning golden against the hills and the bright colors peeking out through the trees, but what I really enjoyed was the signs on so many lawns. In the last eight years I have always seen so many more Republican signs up, but this year it is looking more even and in some places one will see a long stretch of homes through a town with all the local Dems signs, our 18th district congressman, ZACK SPACE is everywhere because he has done such a good job since replacing Bob Ney and everyone likes him, and we have some big OBAMA/BIDEN signs as well as the regular ones popping up here and there more and more this week!
In calls to locals, I am getting the question about the recent association between Obama and Ayers or on what Acorn is...if they have a computer at home I give them these sites:
http://www.factcheck.org/
http://www.fightthesmears.com
I hope that Obama/Biden visit Zack's headquarters in New Philadelphia and the 18th district. One of the big problems out here is the talk radio shows and a lack of affordable access for many to a wider choice of media on local television and radio. Many simply cannot afford cable or broadband so listen to the am or fm on the radio or read the local papers which are slightly favoring a republican perspective.
However, with this lack of jobs and all the foreclosures, hard times are here for many and the facts are - right there as real as can be in their own yards now. With Palin's betrayal of trust problems in Alaska and her Alaska Independent Party associations being revealed - as well as her hypocritical attacks and false accusations on Obama lately being disproven, she is being spoken of openly as a liability to McCain's campaign and causing voters to question his judgement and he is the one having to tone down his own falsely informed constituents.
McCain's plan for homeowners was already rebutted eloquently by Obama on the spot at the last debate which was a surprise to McCain, especially when he shot down the notion by explaining the taxation on homeowners to bail out the loan sharks. Perhaps most embarrasing is the true red herring with the Ayers acquaintance and the community education project - just what they were doing and who it was, a board of many Republicans.
Check out this great article by Andrew Romano for Newsweek: Assessing Ayers:Innuendo vs. Information.
More from NEWSWEEK partner Factcheck.org:
"In a TV ad, McCain says Obama "lied" about his association with William Ayers, a former bomb-setting, anti-war radical from the 1960s and '70s. We find McCain's claim to be groundless. New details have recently come to light, but nothing Obama said previously has been shown to be false... McCain says in an Internet ad that the two "ran a radical 'education' foundation" in Chicago. But the supposedly "radical" group was supported by a Republican governor and included on its board prominent local civic leaders, including one former Nixon administration official who has given $1,500 to McCain's campaign this year. Education Week says the group's work "reflected mainstream thinking" among school reformers. The group was the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, started by a $49 million grant from the Annenberg Foundation, which was established by the publisher Walter Annenberg, a prominent Republican whose widow, Leonore, is a contributor to the McCain campaign. (FactCheck.org, which is nonpartisan, also receives funding from the Annenberg Foundation. But we are in no way connected to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which finished its work long before we came into being in late 2003.)...
Voters may differ in how they see Ayers, or how they see Obama's interactions with him. We're making no judgment calls on those matters. What we object to are the McCain-Palin campaign's attempts to sway voters--in ads and on the stump--with false and misleading statements about the relationship, which was never very close. Obama never "lied" about this, just as he never bragged about it. The foundation they both worked with was hardly "radical." And Ayers is more than a former "terrorist," he's also a well-known figure in the field of education."
Full article at:
http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/10/10/assessing-ayers-innuendo-vs-information.aspx
There is something pathetic and embarrassing about seeing so many misinformed people seriously believing the lies and rumors saying that "This guy's a terrorist" and it being shown on the news all across the country, and these folks really get angry when they realize they have been lied to by one of their own. They are finding out and figuring out what to do about it. Just put them in front of the pc if you can, and get them to the above sites. It will save any exasperating longwinded family debates! One wonders just how many more of these backfires the great old party of below the belt defamers can take?
Hmmmm... If the old modus operendi habit continues, even the staunchest and most stubborn Repugs will turn red with embarrassment to be associated with such a bunch of weedy seedy cons that are not even so neo anymore.
OBAMA/BIDEN CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!
Robert Carlyle Byrd (born November 20, 1917) is the senior United States Senator from West Virginia and a member of the Democratic Party. Byrd has held the office since January 3, 1959. He has served as a Senator for 49 years, 280 days, making him the longest-serving member in the Senate's history. He is also the oldest current member of the United States Congress.
Participation in the Ku Klux Klan
Byrd joined the Ku Klux Klan when he was twenty four in 1942. His local chapter unanimously elected him Exalted Cyclops.[4]
According to Byrd, a Klan official told him, "You have a talent for leadership, Bob... The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation." Byrd later recalled, "suddenly lights flashed in my mind! Someone important had recognized my abilities! I was only 23 or 24 years old, and the thought of a political career had never really hit me. But strike me that night, it did."[4] Byrd held the titles Kleagle (recruiter) and Exalted Cyclops.[4]
When Byrd was twenty eight years old, he wrote about the 1945 racial integration of the military to segregationist Mississippi Senator Theodore Bilbo:
I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.
—Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944 [5][6]
WASHINGTON - Age is finally catching up with West Virginia Sen. Robert C. Byrd in the winter of his 54-year career in Congress. At 89, the longest-serving senator in history and third person in the line of presidential succession has ceded major duties - such as handling appropriations bills on the Senate floor - to younger colleagues and aides.
from a piece in the washington post.
"...What I find most unconscionable is the refusal of the McCain-Palin tandem to publicly condemn the cries of "traitor," "liar," "terrorist" and (worst of all) "kill him!" that could be heard at recent rallies. McCain is perfectly capable of telling hecklers off. But not once did he or his running mate bother to admonish the people yelling these obscene -- and potentially dangerous -- words. They may not have been able to hear the slurs at the rallies, but surely they have had ample time since to get on camera and warn that this sort of ugliness has no place in an election season. But they have not. Simply calling Obama "a decent person" is not enough...
...I -- and, I suspect, millions of Americans like me, Republicans and Democrats alike -- couldn't care less about Obama's middle name or the ridiculous six-degrees-of-separation game that is the William Ayers non-issue. The Taliban are clawing their way back in Afghanistan, the country that I hope many of my fellow Americans have come to understand better through my novels. People are losing their homes and their jobs and are watching the future slip away from them. But instead of addressing these problems, the McCain-Palin ticket is doing its best to distract Americans by provoking fear, anxiety and hatred. Country first? Hardly."
I actually felt bad for McCain last night...really. It seems that he lost/forgot himself completely in the adoration of the rally crowds...to have the fanatical base chanting for him, his ultimate goal...as they have never been keen on him. However it has finally, truly dawned on him at what price he got it.
When the woman in the rally crowd referred to Obama as an arab, some semblence of decency washed over his face, and he took the microphone off of her and corrected her. The crowd did not cheer...and now he knows it WILL be one or the other...what little honor and integrity he can scrape back...or the torch carrying/pitchfork waving base. He saw what the logical conclusion of their recent tactics would be.
He lost many independants by simply playing to the rally crowds and stoking the flames (however Palin hasn't let HER conscience get in the way yet) of fear. I think he doesn't want his last hurrah to be to the tune of racist, fear mongering. Maybe there will be a change in the last 20+ days...it would be nice to have a grown up campaign talking about the actual ISSUES.
Well..I can HOPE.
I doubt that in light of the panels' findings, that the GOP will allow Palin to go on SNL as planned.
And the wicked bitch of the north is still lying trhough her false teeth. She reminds me so much of bush. She apparently lies and steals to get what she wants and is rabid about it. "I'm the decider and f you." Of course mcgeezer is worse than bush.
Welcome to my world here in Alabama. We have a "freebie" paper that ran an editorial stating the Obama was not African American but an Arab.
I overheard a conversation at McDonald's in which one woman asked another about the presidential race and then went on to say she had to be able to go to the church of her choice. If Obama were elected she wouldn't be able to do that any more.
I'm quoting to myself the line from a movie "You need a passport to come into this state."
BUT- I also lived in southwest Ohio and believe me there are as many racists in IN PA and OH as there are in dixie.
These are people who are aware that it is not politically correct to say you can't vote for Obama because he's a ------. So they tell themselves, he's an Arab, a terrorist, a Marxist (I kid you not). Gore and Kerry had to fight - baby killer that wants to take away my guns, and will make my sons marry sons. With Obama they add Arab terrorists, socialist.
Try sometime telling someone you are not threatened by an African American president and then be prepared to be shocked by the responses you can't get
Last month was a critical time campaigning for this election.
mccain and palin spent most of it attacking Obama and Biden and offered no solutions to the problems we face in America.
This is because they were desperate and believed that negative mud-slinging and campaigning would help them.
It's didn't work and on top of it all, it backfired. All it did was gave the extreme right a false sense of confidence.
Let the extreme right have their false sense of confidence. That isn't going to help them and as long as the extreme right thinks what they want to think, that's fine.
The purpose of electing Obama and Biden is to bring stability to America after the unstability that was brought by the republican party.
I was just listening to NPR and they had a story about silas? North Carolina and how the city has been overrun by immigrants from Mexico to work in the chicken factory.
A large number of the citizens are really pissed and blame the immigrants. They should be looking at the neocon employer. What a novel thought.
They even have the African Americans stirred up. They are saying that the immigrants have more rights than they do.
I imagine they will do their best to suppress the vote even though some of them are citizens.
This town had a rally a few years ago featuring david duke the racist from New Orleans. He brought along a bunch of skin heads and put on an ugly harangue against the hispanics inciting these people to riot.
Northhartford, I would have more respect for you if you just said you can't vote for Obama because of his race or admitted you feel threatened by the idea of an African American president.
You are an example of all that remains of the republican support of the Mccain Palin ticket.
John Mccain had a lot of respect within the democratic party for many years. He was bushwacked in 2000. In 2004 he was bought by the Bush wing of the republican party so he would not agree to run as Kerry's VP candidate. Anyone who has followed his career can point to that time as a turning point. After 2004 he would attack the Bush administration in public and then vote with them on the floor of the Senate.
He began to lose respect and support within the Democratic party.
His choice of people running the campaign reflects the influence of Bushies. The nomination of Palin clearly shows how little control he has over this campaign.
Pundits keep saying he has to have the base around him, well maybe yesterday he woke up and said this is not the base I want.
But then the way he has zigged and zagged it's getting to be which Mccain is it going to be today.
Just google Chuck Hagel, fannie mae, 109th congress. This is just another made up story to blame the one's who weren't in power. What liars, and the sheeple believe it.
On another note, Palin thinks God put her in the position to be Govenor and now VP. She thinks she is the chosen one to end the world. Now it appears that God wanted to teach her a lesson and show the whole world that she abused her power as govenor, therefore sinning in gods eyes.
Pentagon Wants $450 Billion Increase Over Next Five Years
Thursday 09 October 2008
by: Josh Rogin, Congressional Quarterly
George W. Bush and Defense Secretary Robert Gates make remarks about the US defense budget in 2007. The Pentagon is preparing to release a new defense budget prior to Bush leaving office that is $450 billion more than previous estimates. (Photo: Reuters)
Pentagon officials have prepared a new estimate for defense spending that is $450 billion more over the next five years than previously announced figures.
The new estimate, which the Pentagon plans to release shortly before President Bush leaves office, would serve as a marker for the new president and is meant to place pressure on him to either drastically increase the size of the defense budget or defend any reluctance to do so, according to several former senior budget officials who are close to the discussions.
Experts note that releasing such documents in the twilight of an administration is a well-worn tactic, and that incoming presidents often disregard such guidance in order to pursue their own priorities.
And with the nation's economy caught up in a global financial meltdown, it remains unclear whether either Sen. John McCain , R-Ariz., Sen. Barack Obama , D-Ill., or a Democratic Congress would support such large increases for defense next year.
"This is a political document," said one former senior budget official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "It sets up the new administration immediately to have to make a decision of how to deal with the perception that they are either cutting defense or adding to it."
This pisses me off. If we were unfortunate to have her as vp, she would probably spend millions attending religious freak events. NO F'ING WAY.
WASILLA, Alaska (AP) -- The camera closes in on Sarah Palin speaking to young missionaries, vowing from the pulpit to do her part to implement God's will from the governor's office.
What she didn't tell worshippers gathered at the Wasilla Assembly of God church in her hometown was that her appearance that day came courtesy of Alaskan taxpayers, who picked up the $639.50 tab for her airplane tickets and per diem fees.
An Associated Press review of the Republican vice presidential candidate's record as mayor and governor reveals her use of elected office to promote religious causes, sometimes at taxpayer expense and in ways that blur the line between church and state.
Since she took state office in late 2006, the governor and her family have spent more than $13,000 in taxpayer funds to attend at least 10 religious events and meetings with Christian pastors, including Franklin Graham, the son of evangelical preacher Billy Graham, records show.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/05/fact-check-is-obama-palling-around-with-terrorists/
Watch: Is Obama a terrorist's pal?
Get the facts!
The Facts: In making the charge at a fund-raising event in Englewood, Colorado, and a rally in Carson, California, Palin was referring at least in part to William Ayers, a 1960s radical. In both appearances, Palin cited a front-page article in Saturday's New York Times detailing the working relationship between Obama and Ayers.
In the 1960s, Ayers was a founding member of the radical Weather Underground group that carried out a string of bombings of federal buildings, including the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol, in protest against the Vietnam War. The now-defunct group was labeled a "domestic terrorist group" by the FBI, and Ayers and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn — also a Weather Underground member — spent 10 years as fugitives in the 1970s. Federal charges against them were dropped due to FBI misconduct in gathering evidence against them, and they resurfaced in 1980. Both Ayers and Dohrn ultimately became university professors in Chicago, with Ayers, 63, now an education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Obama's Chicago home is in the same neighborhood where Ayers and Dohrn live. Beginning in 1995, Ayers and Obama worked with the non-profit Chicago Annenberg Challenge on a huge school improvement project. The Annenberg Challenge was for cities to compete for $50 million grants to improve public education. Ayers fought to bring the grant to Chicago, and Obama was recruited onto the board. Also from 1999 through 2001 both were board members on the Woods Fund, a charitable foundation that gave money to various causes, including the Trinity United Church that Obama attended and Northwestern University Law Schools' Children and Family Justice Center, where Dohrn worked.
CNN's review of project records found nothing to suggest anything inappropriate in the volunteer projects in which the two men were involved.
Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt told CNN that after meeting Obama through the Annenberg project, Ayers hosted a campaign event for him that same year when then-Illinois state Sen. Alice Palmer, who planned to run for Congress, introduced the young community organizer as her chosen successor. LaBolt also said the two have not spoken by phone or exchanged e-mail messages since Obama came to the U.S. Senate in 2005 and last met more than a year ago when they encountered each other on the street in their Hyde Park neighborhood.
The extent of Obama's relationship with Ayers came up during the Democratic presidential primaries earlier this year, and Obama explained it by saying, "This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood … the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago — when I was 8 years old — somehow reflects on me and my values doesn't make much sense."
The McCain campaign did not respond Saturday to a request for elaboration on Palin's use of the plural "terrorists."
Verdict: False. There is no indication that Ayers and Obama are now "palling around," or that they have had an ongoing relationship in the past three years. Also, there is nothing to suggest that Ayers is now involved in terrorist activity or that other Obama associates are.
Poor poor Sally, stupid little republican dupe
The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."
OH my Sally...what will you do??? Your "lady" is pallin around with terrorissssss.....
STupid little repuplican dupe
All Repo Trolls, are imbeciles, or they would not be here!!!! And whats worst then that, they spend all of their free time here, which shows there idiotic stupidity. These trolls are the lowest scum on the face of this earth, there like the ones at McNuts Rally's, Kill The Terrorist, He's a Arab, He is a Muslim, and you all know the rest.
But what you will not here from them, is that they, being McNuts, and the ugly zit faced bitch, are as Crooked, as the day is long, and as corrupt as the day is long, and abuse their power just like the Chimp. And BTW where in the fuck is Dick, and he is Cheney in this global crisis? No one has heard a word out of this prick since this crisis started, is he in a undisclosed location again, trebiling for his life? He's got a big hand in this , with McNuts, and your truly Phil Gramm, and Paulson and his wall street bud's.
But knowing what i know about John Snow, the x Treasury Secretary, that resigned before Paulson, who was the CEO of CSX railroad that i worked for, for years, he was CEO of for years. HE IS THE BIGGEST CROOK OF ANYBODY THAT I KNOW OF, WHICH FIT RIGHT IN WITH THE CHIMP'S ADMINISTRATION.
Oh, look... we have a "new" stupid republican dupe. NOT. I'm guessing it is one of the same old fools that show up frequently. They say stupid things they can't back up, then they try to change their name to try to have some credibility. Of course we can usually recognize them by the idiotic things they say (like your initial comment)
poor stupid republican dupes.
You can rest assured that Obama, will win this election, in the USA.
So you can call in the dogs, the hunt is over.
All that is not certain, is the margin of the win.
At this time it looks really like a big win, for Mr. Obama!
The poor stupid little republican trolls are getting nervous. Their changing their names more. Their comments are becoming even more lame and baseless. Even the really stupid can feel this election slipping away from the republicans. More and more people are moving to the Obama side. Soon, only the REALLY REALLY stupid will still be standing with McLame.
Afternoon Chassie and Chicago,
The blowback on the repukes reminds me of a machine they were putting together to spread shit.
It did not work because they are failures at everything the attempt.
The shit blew back in their faces. Now they are covered with shit.
Good afternoon, all.
Back from canvassing all day. Boy, the Republicans are all whacked out.
In the morning I went with other Obama volunteers back to some middle class neighborhoods where we needed to pick up people who had not been home when we called before. The Republicans now say, "I don't want to talk about IT." (IT as in THE OTHER ONE.)
Independents are beginning to commit. Many said the debates showed them what they needed to know. Others said McCain had one more chance next week but they are prepared to "hold their nose and do what is necessary." One issue voters were looking for ways to find common ground.
In the afternoon, I joined with some MoveOn and DFA groups to canvass. There were so many people we had to double and triple up. They will tell voters exactly what they think whether they want to hear it or not. What a riot. We went to a hard core, upper middle class stronghold.
These Republicans are delightful. Well mannered and curious even if they will not vote for Obama. They can't stand McCain...wanted The Flipper and can't believe what they have ended up with. For the second time in a month, I was offered a drink at one house. We even found a few votes.
We were bombarded with questions about Obama and his proposed programs by people who now truly believe he will be the next president. We ran out of lit and position papers. (One guy ran off some more copies for us.) They say this election is all over and they're glad. They think McCain is as McNuts as we do.
It was a great day. I've always enjoyed meeting middle class and working people of all political persuasions when I canvass. They share so many wonderful family stories.
But talking to fiscal conservatives, the highly educated, and small business people/developers who understand the issues behind the current economic meltdown was a real treat.
Unless Spunky starts WW III and declares martial law there is nothing that will change the outcome now. Obama has proven himself to enough voters. The others respect him even if they will not vote for him.
I am so sorry for totally changing the subject but i am a 13 year old, but before you stop reading because of my age i am currently attending a very rigorous U.S. History class i am also planing to obtain my associates degree in high school next year (yes, times have changed people!) To finally make my point i don't think that they should have someone that owns a media broadcast of some-sort should questions the candidates during the presidential debate just someone unknown to GET ALL THE FACTS from the candidates not just the watered-down crap we've been getting for years of previous elections. And it's called the PRESIDENTIAL debate so they should include independent parties such as the Green party, Libretarians(sorry for mispelling i'm only 13),constitutional party, ect. maybe then people would agree more with them than more just the the plain old Elephants or Donkeys ;)
