Gen. Colin Powell Endorses Senator Barack Obama for President

Posted by Matt Ortega on October 20, 2008 at 12:19 PM

Gen. Colin Powell, a former four-star general and secretary of state, endorsed Senator Barack Obama on Meet the Press yesterday.

Gen. Powell slammed the McCain campaign's robo-sleaze and the various smear attacks lobbed at Senator Obama, as well as a defense of Muslim-Americans and the story of Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, a young American Muslim who was 14 on September 11 and was killed in Iraq last year.

Powell is the obfuscator on the war on poverty!

Unfortunately, he still has stature from years of media propaganda as an honest spokesman after all that he has done in law-breaking and deception.

He is the authoritarian face of the military-business empire, giving semi-plausible reasons why we need to build bombs and fight boogie-men while people around the world die by the thousands every day of preventable poverty causes.

Dwight Eisenhower was having major problems with his own Party, too, as he left office.

* * * * *

Why can’t the Republicans govern effectively? The answer in the 1950s, when the Republican majority was defeated, is the same now. The leadership comes from the extreme right wing.

As has been said in this space before, the forgotten hero of World War II and the Republican Party, President Eisenhower, blamed the right wing for losing Congress in the 1954 midyear election.

Ike fumed, “If the right wing wants a fight, they’re going to get it. If they want to leave the Republican Party and form a third party, that’s their business. But before I end up, either this Republican Party will reflect progressivism or I won’t be with them anymore.

“And let me tell you one thing. If they think they can nominate a right-wing Old Guard Republican for the presidency, they’ve got another thought coming. I’ll go up and down this country, campaigning against them. I’ll fight them right down the line.”

If he wants to continue to work on environmental issues after leaving office, a high-profile role on behalf of the Republican nominee may not serve his interests.

"Arnold is a shrewd calculator," said Jack Pitney, a professor of American politics at Claremont McKenna College, "and it's hard to see how he comes out ahead by tying himself to McCain."

looks like those riding the elephant want off?

POWELL IS THAT MAVERICK

this was both a surprise and a no-brainer.

the surprise is powell was so candid about the GOP, mccain and palin.

the no-brainer is mccain and palin do not inspire, only recharge their right-wing base.

i'm sure this wasn't an easy endorsement. turning his back and walking away from a party that put him on the political map.

that is a MAVERICK.

From one born in Texas, see inside info regarding GOD FIRST, Texas & why Obama will win and all creation will participate. Someone MUCH bigger than Colin Powell is the reason. Copyright in the 90's, this story is animated by Broadway actors primarily for the youth to be saved as I was then and is 100% true. Well not my pictures as child, student, Sam, or father. Yet, Testimony on site is one among MANY confirmations that reputable US citizens the likes of Colin Powell can affirm with documents. Paralysis... represents too many to list. Yet VOTE and encourage others to VOTE. We are told "Faith without works is dead."
