IF THERE IS ANYONE WHO DOES NOT THINK THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION OF THEIR'S AND THEIR CHILDREN'S LIVES, GUESS AGAIN!

Election could decide future of the federal courts

With the high court beginning its new term Monday, the stakes in the presidential election a month later loom large for voters who care about hot-button issues that judges decide, including abortion, school prayer and gay rights.

The future occupant of the White House could have the opportunity to name perhaps three or four justices, which could either solidify an ideologically split bench or dramatically move it further right. Explore five key cases the court will hear this fall »

"I think as the election approaches, the Supreme Court will take on more prominence as an election issue," said Edward Lazarus, author of an inside account of the high court, "Closed Chambers." "The court will always be viewed as a political institution to some extent because we are a deeply political nation that translates those political issues into law."

Kathy, here are some links you can peruse to refresh your memory of McCain and the ties to Keating! Although he ended up with a slap on the hands, there was no doubt he was guilty in this dirty deed:

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Stocks were in for a bruising Monday after a deepening financial crisis in Europe heightened worries about a global economic slowdown.

The S&P, Dow and Nasdaq futures - trading that gives an indication of how stocks may move in the early going - were sharply lower about one hour before the open. That followed a broad sell-off around the world on Monday

Repost:
Does anyone get the Field and Stream magazine? I was flipping through it this morning and came to an abrupt halt. They did one whole anti-Obama page saying how he doesn't support guns. It went on and on. Ok I thought - so they have taken a stand against Obama. But when I turned back a page, I was furious! The page before the anti-Obama ad was another full page ad, this one for a clock. It wasn't the clock that made me so angry; it was what was on the clock - a Confederate flag. The clock is entitled - "Echoes of Glory" and it's about Robert E. Lee.

But it was the placement of the ad - just before an anti-Obama ad that drew my attention. I'm sure that Field and Stream placed it there knowing full well the intent.

Please email Field and Stream and voice your opposite to this bigoted hatred!

now isn't it funny, how the day the price goes UP on Oil, you see it the next day at the pump, yet when it FALLS, you don't see it at all.

Our's is down from the $4.09 high, to about $3.619 here if you are lucky. So a full tank of 20 gallons still costs you $72.38 per week.

And it was $1.46 when Bush took office!!!!!!! (That was $29.20 per full tank!)

PUT THE PICTURES WHERE THE REPUBLICANS WHO OPPOSE GLOBAL WARMING MOUTHS ARE ! Let them dispute hard cold (?) facts shown in pictures.

For a long time -- the first 15 years that we knew about global warming and did nothing -- there were no pictures. That was one of the reasons for inaction.

Climate change was still "theoretical," the word that people in power use to dismiss anything for which pictures do not exist. It is the reason we don't see shots of coffins coming back from Iraq; it's the reason the only prison abuse we really know about was at Abu Ghraib. Without pictures, no uproar; not in a visual age.

But now the pictures have started to come, and they will not cease

McCain Down 7% in Critical State of Ohio
10/5/08

State Pollster Date Obama McCain Barr
OH CD 9/26-10/3 49% 42% -
MN PSRA 9/30-10/2 55% 37% -
CO Mason 9/29-10/1 44% 44% 4%
Subscribe: Poll Summaries To Your Inbox

Gallup Tracking: Obama 50, McCain 43.
Rasmussen Tracking: Obama 51, McCain 44.
Hotline Tracking: Obama 48, McCain 41.
AVERAGE: Obama +7% nationally.

By dropping out of Michigan, John McCain's strategy has turned to defending the states Bush won in 2004. Crucial to Bush's victory in 2004 was Ohio but John McCain is down 7% in that state according to the Columbus Dispatch poll.

McCain cannot win without Ohio and he may not be able to win without Pennsylvania -- depending on how many Bush 2004 states Obama picks up. So expect McCain to play the race card as a last ditch attempt to secure the 2008 presidency. Because without the race card, he may not win. Uh oh, I am expecting a bad month for politics I guess. But we shall see.

Minnesota looked like a promising state for John McCain but this latest poll has McCain down 18%.

According to the General Election Ohio poll by Columbus Dispatch:

Not only has no Republican ever won the presidency without carrying the Buckeye State, McCain almost has to run the 2004 electoral table to win, carrying every single state President Bush won four years ago, including Ohio.

The Arizona senator is scheduled to appear in Cleveland on Wednesday, while Obama plans a two-day bus trip across Ohio this week.

Although both are attempting to persuade voters that they would bring about the change America needs, the survey shows that Ohioans are buying that message more from Obama, by a margin of 10 percentage points.

"It is not only a matter of change, but change for the better, and Obama has the better chance of securing that change," said poll participant Graig E. Kluge, 36, a Cleveland Heights real-estate investment manager.

TIME TO GET OUT THOSE VIDEOS OF PALIN AND HER PASTOR, AS WELL AS THE VOODOO WITCHCRAFT SHE WAS INVOLVED IN !!!!

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin expanded her attack on Democrat Barack Obama's character Monday to include his relationship with an incendiary former pastor as well as his ties to 1960s-era radical Bill Ayers.

In the process, Palin toned down her description of the Obama-Ayers relationship after her weekend remarks were criticized as exaggerated, but at the same time she embarked on a discussion of Obama's relationship with his former paster, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., which Republican presidential candidate John McCain had signaled he did not want to be a part of his campaign.

In an interview with conservative The New York Times columnist William Kristol published Monday, the Alaska governor said there should be more discussion about Wright, Obama's pastor of 20 years at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. The Democratic candidate denounced Wright and severed ties with the church last spring after videotapes surfaced showing Wright making anti-American and anti-Semitic comments from the pulpit.

Wright had appeared to be off limits for the McCain campaign ever since McCain himself condemned the North Carolina Republican Party in April for an ad that called Obama "too extreme" because Wright was his pastor. He asked the party to take down the ad and said, "I'm making it very clear, as I have a couple of times in the past, that there's no place for that kind of campaigning, and the American people don't want it."

SAN FRANCISCO - Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin called Afghanistan “our neighboring country” on Sunday in a speech that could revive questions over her tendency to stumble into linguistic knots.

Three days after a mostly gaffe-free debate performance, the Alaska governor fumbled during a speech in which she praised U.S. soldiers for “fighting terrorism and protecting us and our democratic values”.

“They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan,” she told several hundred supporters at a fundraising event in San Francisco.

BOISE – Idaho ranks as one of the most restrictive states in the nation for college students looking to register and vote at their college addresses, according to a national study.

The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School surveyed all states' election laws and rules for student voters and found that only Idaho and Tennessee require students to have plans to stay in the state permanently, aside from school.

"Frankly, I question the constitutionality of this rule," said Wendy Weiser, director of voting rights and elections at the Brennan Center. "Many students are in a situation where they don't know where they're going after school – for all intents and purposes, this is their only residence."

ANCHORAGE, Alaska —
Sarah Palin is the breadwinner and husband Todd is, well - he takes a lot of deductions for his fishing and snowmachine racing careers, according to 2007 and 2006 federal tax returns released Friday.

Sarah Palin makes $125,000 a year as Alaska governor. Plus, since she took the job in December 2006, she hasn't paid taxes on the more than $17,000 she received in controversial per diem payments for working out of the family's lakeside home in Wasilla - some 575 miles from the capital of Juneau.

For the 2007 tax year, Todd Palin's self-employment brought him $66,893 in gross receipts - $49,893 from fishing and $17,000 from snowmachine racing. But, the returns show, he claimed so many deductions that he reported only $15,513 net profit from the fishing operation and claimed a $9,639 loss from his racing, leaving him with an overall net income of only $5,874. In addition, Todd earned $43,519 last year working part-time on the North Slope for BP Exploration.

The self-employment deductions left the Palins, who have four dependent children, with a 15 percent tax rate for 2007 and a rate of less than 10 percent for 2006. Todd Palin also deducted for the business use of their home in Wasilla. A fifth child was born to the couple this year.

An Associated Press analysis of the returns released by the McCain campaign also reveals that the Palins underpaid their estimated taxes with an April extension and likely owe interest.

Good morning/afternoon, all.

How are GOP economics trickling down to your area? This is what's going on where I live:

There was a large article in our newspaper today about how local suburban and big city governments can't get enough money to operate till their sales tax revenues come in this Xmas...and the prospects for those numbers being anywhere equal to last year's shopping season are not good.

Local governments feeling pain from economy

By Kevin McDermott
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
10/06/2008

• St. Louis delays bond sale for Lambert project.
• Arnold considers imposing garbage fees.
• Granite City's bond sale falls short by millions.
• St. Charles County orders 8 Pct. spending cut.
• patrol urges troopers to conserve fuel.

It isn't just Wall Street and Main Street reeling from the national economic crisis. City Hall is feeling it, too.

In St. Louis, financing for renovations at the airport and the municipal courts has been stalled by the same lending crunch that has made it harder for consumers to take out car loans.

St. Charles County, hit with flat sales tax receipts, is freezing all nonessential travel.

Jefferson County, which has seen a decline in fee revenue, is leaving county job vacancies unfilled. The city of Arnold, struggling with high fuel costs, is considering charging residents for their garbage service, which is currently free.

Missouri figures released Friday show individual and corporate income taxes down in September, numbers that state Commissioner of Administration Larry Schepker declared "cause for concern."

In Illinois, state treasury investment returns are plummeting, further strapping a state that was already on the verge of shuttering its parks and historic sites.

The economic crisis is shaking the pillars of government from several directions: Wobbly retail and industry performance is dragging down tax revenue that various levels of government need to function. The credit crunch is making it harder for local governments to finance projects.

And most daunting, the drop in consumer confidence (translation: people buying less) is hitting local governments right where they live.

"As consumers cut back on their spending, sales tax revenue declines," said Gary Markenson, executive director of the Missouri Municipal League.

Less public money — and more difficulty in borrowing it — leads cities to cut back on services and put off public works projects, "which ripples through the economy, because those are jobs," he said.

Predictions of increased unemployment are expected to further diminish local government revenue. Already, Markenson said, local governments have seen their tax revenue flatten, and most expect it to actually start falling soon.

In some places, it has already happened. Sales tax revenue in St. Louis dropped in the quarter ending last month, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of decline, said Paul W. Payne, the city's budget director.

"It's a small decline, but it's still a decline," Payne said. "The problem is (determining) whether sales tax is an early indicator — is it a canary in a coal mine?"...

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/story/77157FB67F1490F5862574DA000BF295?OpenDocument

(Emphasis mine.)

This economic meltdown is the result of 40 years of the Reagan Revolution. The Republicans have failed this country and its people yet again.

They have us back to where Hoover left off...as well as bogged down in a fruitless occupation in Iraq for no reasonable reason.

But then, that is actually all he has to his own name ! >Senior Citizens Who Vote for McCain Should be Required to Renounce Any Claim to Social Security or Medicare

October 6th

Let's make it quite simple: any person over 65 who votes for John McCain should first be required to renounce all claims to Social Security and Medicare.

Why? It's quite simple.

McCain's largest age group of support (by percentage) is Americans over the age of 65. Since McCain and the Republican Party have as their main message (other than "we are the party of white people") shrinking the size of government and letting everyone sink or swim on their own, I do not believe that seniors who vote for McCain are entitled to Social Security or Medicare, and that's just for starters as far as government support of the elderly.

John "7-11 houses" McCain himself proudly collects and cashes his social security check (and we are not making this up), as well receiving a disability check from the government. He also has received government medical care (which might have otherwise bankrupted a struggling working stiff due to McCain's history of multiple melanomas) for decades. In fact, McCain's entire adult life -- except for a brief stint working for his wife's beer distributorship -- has been on the public payroll. In short, we the taxpayers, have paid for McCain's salary and benefits. (You would think that with a fortune worth over $100 million dollars, enough that he can gamble away tens of thousands of dollars a year, he might sign over his social security check to charity, but not John McCain. He's all for "socialism" for number one, himself.)

Kathy,

You know, that's who Palin is...a Brownie leader. She's got nothing else to offer.

She wants to lead her Republican "girlie men" scouts into the wilderness where this country may never see the light of day again. Her Cabinet would probably include a bunch of old men like Lieberman who couldn't ward off mosquitoes.

I can't believe people actually have the nerve to put up a yard sign with her name on it. It's like saying, "Look at me. I'm senile and want to lose my life savings because she's so damned spunky."

Spunky. That's who has been running this country for the last eight years..."I'm feeling spunky" George W. Bush. We need another one of them for four more years?

The GOP is pushing this country toward another revolution. Either it will be at the ballot box or it will be in the streets. They are pushing working class people to the brink. They aren't going to accept mediocrity any longer.

Palin is just another symptom of way too much incompetence in the Republican Party. None of them are fit to serve.

It would appear that some people want to elect people just like themselves to higher office. I have been increasing the amount of "election coverage" I follow as I get ready for the main round of PCO door-belling here in Seattle (my LD's literature pickup is this coming Saturday!). Much of what I'm hearing is on NPR (though they are resuming their perpetual fundraiser just in time for the election today... hmmm, another subtle Republican ploy to reduce our access to information?), and I have to say it has been horrifying and very scary! People actually believe that McSame represents change while Obama represents a continuation of the past 8 years!!!! Or, those who really do buy the concept that we need more people "just like the average citizen" holding higher offices such as President & VP, AND believe McSame and little-Cheney actually ARE "just like the average citizen".

Too Many Sheeple got us into this mess (well, with a little assist from the Supreme Court and a little voting-manipulation from our Republican friends). And it is shocking how many there are.

Having said all this, let me end with some reassuring observations. I recently completed a voter registration pass through my precinct. I am pleased to be able to observe that support for Obama is even greater than I had expected. Sure, my precinct was close to 90% Democratic in 2006. But, when I spoke with a few families where I know one spouse is hardcore Republican and the other a strong Democrat, I was surprised and encouraged by the number of switches by the Republican of the household. I can report a tiny tiny minority of my precinct remaining in the McSame camp. ALL of the others and vigorous supporters of Obama! I did not run across a single "lukewarm" Obama supporter.

Our absentee ballots drop in another week or so, and I can report that every PCO in my LD will be out there pounding the pavement, working to covert all of this into a huge vote for Obama.

I only hope we can also carry our governor to re-election on this wave of Obama support as it would be a bitter pill indeed to loose our statehouse to the Bush-style Republican running his do-over campaign.

Pam,

Republicans have never been known to give back money or not accept a check whether it comes from a social program or not.

Look at that creep from Lehman Brothers who is on MSNBC today speaking at a Senate hearing. He's not giving anything back and is telling the committee that it was our mistake for making them take all those stock options and golden parachutes.

We made them do it? Where is the remorse? Where have they learned their lesson. A company collapses and it's not their problem? They were in charge and responsible for what happened.

But they aren't responsible, because the Republicans deregulated everything.

The GOP is responsible for these irresponsible thieves... and for what they did to our retirement savings and our children's chance for opportunities to realize their true potential in the future.

The Republicans took away everything worthwhile about this country and shipped our assets overseas along with the jobs. They would turn this country into a dictatorship if they could. Bush has made a good start at disabling the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

A Palin-appointed Supreme Court majority would complete what the Reinquest Court started in 2000.

By the way, absentee voting begins in Indiana I think on Wednesday... they are expecting record numbes to take advantage of this. The local clerks office thinks that the Democrats will be out early and in very heavy numbers in Indiana....

Sarah McClown is a dork!

Palin has no place to stand talking about other people's pastors. That church she goes to can provide too much material to show what a kook she is, from the "end times coming to Alaska" to the witch exorcism video. As an Alaskan, I would have figured she could identify thin ice, I guess not.

gregg, I heard on the radio this morning that if Grampy McGrumpy doesn't turn it around in MN by the end of this week he might pull out of there, too.

And, he's only up by 1 to 3 points in Indiana. Well within the MoE.

That's pretty much what I was talking about yesterday. We have Obama Republicans. The current bunch of incompetents who are running the Republican party have alienated a lot of the more moderate and in-touch Republican party members. Alienated them to the point that they are working knocking on doors, putting up signs, and phone calling for the Obama campaign.
The Bushiato has suceeded in splitting the Republican party. If this financial crisis keeps going on its current course there will be an even larger number of Obama Republicans, mainly because they see no viable alternatives within their own party.
Once this campaign is over, I predict a revolution within the Republican party. Either the current leadership gets tossed out on their corrupt little ears or the disenchanted moderates will start a new party and eventually replace the current Republican party as the second party.

New polls from Virginia.

SurveyUSA: 53% Obama 43% McCain

Suffolk: 51% Obama 39% McCain

Yes, that’s right. Barack Obama has a double digit lead in two polls over John McCain.

In Virginia.

Steven Pinker asks: We're About To Enter An Era Of Increased Regulation--But Can We Make Sure Not To Overdo It?

My one word answer? NO! I want regulations and oversight so damn tight that those fucking Wall Street assholes can't fucking SNEEZE without filling out permission forms in triplicate!

So Old Man McCain is going to take the gloves off Tuesday night and come out Strong against Barack???? LMAO! All Barack has to do is keep talking about the Economy and the fact that McCain spent 26 years driving us into this freaken mess and he will drag out of there with his tail between his little stumpy legs!
