No Swiftboating for Obama!!!!!!

Exclusive: Obama to call McCain 'erratic in crisis'
By MIKE ALLEN |

(McCain officials said they planned to begin advertising tying Obama to Rezko and Ayers.)

Branding his opponent as “erratic in a crisis,” Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is preempting plans by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to portray him as having sinister connections to controversial Chicagoans.

Obama officials call it political jujitsu – turning the attacks back on the attacker.

McCain officials had said early in the weekend that they plan to begin advertising after Tuesday’s debate that will tie Obama to convicted money launderer Tony Rezko and former Weathermen radical William Ayers.

But Obama isn’t waiting to respond. His campaign is going up Monday on national cable stations with a scathing ad saying: “Three quarters of a million jobs lost this year. Our financial system in turmoil. And John McCain? Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy. No wonder his campaign wants to change the subject.

“Turn the page on the financial crisis by launching dishonorable, dishonest ‘assaults’ against Barack Obama. Struggling families can't turn the page on this economy, and we can't afford another president who is this out of touch.”

Then Obama says: “I'm Barack Obama and I approved this message.”

The short answer to your question is that the Oath of Office can take place anywhere, even in a secure location, as long as a federal judge administers the Oath.

I know that but that is not cause for my concern. This is what worries me.........

The Reagan Revolution was never about the interests of the moral majority. It was about the very wealthy, very small minority controlling the moral majority.

All these Presidential edicts and unconstitutional laws must be changed within the first few months of a new administration. The Republicans have become the Party of the wealthy multinationals not average Americans.

They must control. They must stop the free flow of ideas. They must control those that dare to question them. The must stop democracy.

Ah, I made it!
The Republicans are starting their voter disenfranchisement drive in Montana now.
The only Republican I will vote for, Montana's Lieutenant Governor John Bollinger has an opinion piece in the Montana Standard today castigating his party for their attempts to purge voters from the roles in Montana. He is pointing out how they are trying to purge people who only moved across town, in some cases to nursing or assisted care facilities, how many of them are military personnel, who have been deployed to other parts of the country and the world, and in one case a man who bought a house in another county even though he is still living in his original home!
Go to

http://www.mtstandard.com/ Scroll down to "Opinion" then go to "Republicans crossed the line with voter purge attempt". Bollinger has stood up against his party's leadership, and their attempts to throw him out of the party. If the Republican party survives this self-imposed crisis within the party it will be because of people like Bollinger and our Obama Republicans. Yes, we have Obama supporting Republicans here! It also proves how out of touch the Republican party leadership (losership?)is with their true base.

From Australia:

Sarah Palin: moosie meat muppet

Here’s a great quote from America’s most famous hockey mum, talking about the reasons why Obama is not ready to be the head of the world’s most powerful armed forces.

Some of his comments that he has made about the war that I think may — in my world – disqualifies someone from consideration as the next commander in chief.

“Some of his comments that he has made?” You mean, as opposed to some of his comments that he hasn’t made, or some of the comments of other people that he has made.

“That I think may - in my world - disqualifies someone.”

In your world? What world is that, exactly, Sarah? Is that a world where priests exorcise your demons and call on God to bring you the money you need to gain power? Is it a world where “may disqualifies” is a perfectly acceptable piece of language construction? Is it a world where people’s comments are divided into the ones they make and the ones they don’t make? “Some of those comments you didn’t make yesterday really impressed me.” I thought we all lived in the same world, here, even if we might sees it differently.

In an interview, which you can watch here, Palin says that McCain gave her a pep talk and gave her some simple advice before the vice-presidential debate: “Just go out there and be yourself and have some fun.”

Have some fun? What is she a circus clown? How can having fun be in any way related to a vice-presidential debate? Isn’t the whole point of the debate supposed to be that it enables her time to effectively communicate the policies that she and McCain stand for, and to critique the opposition’s policies? Is that supposed to be fun? Clearly, if Palin is a meat muppet, then McCain is the cretin with his hand up her a***.

And did Palin, “have fun” on television? Well, yoobetcha; she says that she felt there was some “great chemistry” between her and Biden and, “I had a ball, it was great.”

Well, that’s the important thing, really, isn’t it.

It is beyond my comprehension that anyone could even contemplate letting Palin transport herself over from her world into “our world”, and then giving her the power to drive the kids to hockey, let alone vice-powers to govern a super power. If I have to listen to that voice, which sounds a bit like an Alaskan Fran Drescher I’m going to start attending heavy metal concerts and sitting next to the speakers until I go deaf in an angry musical kind of way.

If the GOP wants to go back to another era to attack an eight-year-old boy who lived in Hawaii not Chicago during the '70s, then perhaps it's time for McCain to finally explain why he "palled around" with banker Charles Keating during the 1989 Savings and Loan bailout when he was 53-years-old.

I'm glad to see the Obama people finally coming out and saying that McCain would rather attack then to give the voters what he plans on doing with the different issues.

I've been saying this for several weeks, all McCain's ads are one attack after another. I still don't understand what he stands for, besides more of the same and that he should retire because he's not fit to be President.

Actually, the point is that these people still consider themselves Republicans even though they disagree with, indeed feel betrayed by, their party. They feel they have nothing in common with their current party "leadership". These are the moderate Republicans, who have been shoved aside and belittled by the Immoral Majority and the Reaganomics sell out to K-street.
They don't identify with the Democrats, although many of them are helping with the Obama campaign, because they don't like the direction that this country is going and want to help change it.
If they can come together, I forsee that they either a whole new party to replace the Republicans or a revolution to oust the current Republican leadership.
I think that the days of the Republican control freaks may be numbered.

It's good to see that Palin takes the economic conditions in this country seriously. It's all about her having the time of her life while seniors are worried about their life savings and families are being evicted from homes in great numbers.

She's acting like a small town mayor who is drunk with power and full of her own importance...not a responsible public official who is ready to solve problems.

When is she going to grow up? She's approaching life just like George W. Bush, and we've all seen how that damaged the country.

She's a mother of five children with one who just left for Iraq, a Down's Syndrome newborn, and an unwed pregnant teenager...having a ball while she checks out the chemistry of other politicians?

Our parish priest once stepped in and told a good-time neighbor that she needed to stay home at nights with her family and stop running around. I see a similar pattern here.

You wonder if the oldest girl didn't get pregnant just so she could start taking care of her own child instead acting as a mother to the rest of her siblings. did Mama treated her like a built in baby sitter so she could get away from all the responsibilities at home?

g'morning everyone...what a wonderful day to be a democrat! last night i pulled out my old tape of the 1979 classic movie, 'apocalypse now'. while watching it, i thought of mclame and his assertion that his military record somehow gives him the credentials to be our president. let me say now that when this 'johnnie' came home he had seen absolutely nothing of what real war is. i doubt his captors even showed him pictures of what he did. he is no warrior hero. he was a 'techno-warrior', realeasing his ordinance from above, never seeing the faces or the human results of his actions. he tells us he hates war, but he never experienced, as marlon brando's character puts it, the "horror" which is war. what he saw was the neat, clean application of deadly force from a distance. to him war wasn't and isn't up close and personal, he never looked into the eyes of those he killed. it is this disconnect, this impersonal detachment, that should not qualify him to lead, but should, rather, disqualify him.

Market Insider: The Week Ahead
Posted By:Patti Domm

The stumbling economy and the specter of a rough earnings season will pressure stocks in the week ahead.

As the credit crunch continues to bite into corporate and consumer activity, economists are paring back expectations for the economy into 2009. Investors are increasingly responding to the likelihood of a global recession by pushing the dollar higher and selling commodities.

Goldman Sachs economists Friday said they see a deeper than expected U.S. recession because of poor economic data and the sharp deterioration in financial conditions. They see declining GDP in the fourth quarter and first quarter, 2009 and an unemployment rate of 8 percent by the end of 2009. Unemployment is currently 6.1 percent.

20
chassie on October 5, 2008 at 01:32 PM

States with the Highest Unemployment Rates
According to a report released by the US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, over the year, jobless rates were up in 47 states and the District of Columbia and down in three states. The national unemployment rate rose to 6.1 percent in August, 1.4 percentage points higher than a year earlier.

1. Michigan 8.9%

2. Rhode Island 8.5%

3. California 7.7%

4. Mississippi 7.7%

5. South Carolina 7.6%

6. Ohio 7.4%

7. Illinois 7.3%

8. Nevada 7.1%

9. Alaska 6.9%

10. North Carolina 6.9%

11. Washington D.C. 6.9%

Its easy to see why McNuts is pulling out of Michigan.

German visa worker,

My mother was the one who watched all the other kids in the neighborhood after school. She provided snacks and wiped away the tears while she administered the bandaids when the cuts and scrapes happened. My father was a Scout leader.

You had to finish your homework before your could play. You helped the younger ones when they got stumped. You asked Mom or Dad to check for errors because you really wanted to impress your teacher.

We played outside because there wasn't any air conditioning and besides there was far more interesting things to do out there anyway. When we were old enough, we all rode our bikes together. We went to parks and climbed trees or joined pickup softball, soccer, or basketball games. We went to community centers to take free dance or music lessons.

We went to Church on Sunday and some of us practiced once a week for the choir. We volunteered time at the local Turners Hall because we had little money to spare for donations...that went to Church.

We went to the library every week and read comic books, too. We went to the free zoo and museums on weekends (taxpayers funded..still are free in St. Louis). Yes, we did Love Lucy, too, but we only watched her after we took our baths and before we read with our parents before bedtime.

Most American families still try to live this way in some sort of way...especially liberals. It's important to have a well-rounded background and seek out new people and places. It makes you curious and responsible. It's the way this country builds character and why we are still the greatest country in the world.

That's the way it was done in working class America in the 1950's. So how was it in post-Nazi Germany where you grew up? Or did you live in South America?

We have yet to find out the full extent of the current economic meltdown or how many of those "friends" were involved in some of the shady dealings that caused it.

If you want to look into business dealings, we're fully prepared to do that.

Why hasn't Cindy McCain released the family tax returns? Did she, like Dick Cheney change all of her American dollar reserves into Euros last year? Was there insider information trading going on that profited the McCain estate?

The double standard's on your part. You are the family values folks and insist that people take "personal" responsibility for their actions.

Palin made a "choice" to have a baby she knew would have special needs and need extra attention. She's now made another "choice" to push that responsibility off on others.

This is an issue that Reagan Democrats have to face. One of their own isn't living up to your high standards and you aren't demanding that she do just that.

And when she becomes Vice President it will be the taxpayer who foots the bill for the extra care and services that she refuses to give this child herself...and that you routinely say that working class people should not get?

Why should we pay extra taxes for V.P. caregiver expenses (for the rest of its life) so Palin can continue "to have a ball" while neglecting her personal responsibilities? She made a choice and isn't taking it seriously. Her choice is now our problem?

It's another example of welfare for the rich and powerful..the poor be damned. This bimbo doesn't have the common sense to know a special needs child requires a greater outlay of time and care by both of its parents?

Merrily she goes along oblivious of the consequences? She might as well be a mother with a crack problem from the way she's acting.

This is where the rethugs and mclame are, they may be undeniably stupid but they're not dumb. They know what's happening to the rest of the country and even to the world economy. The iceburg they've put in the path of the american dream is that they care only for themselves and have not a single concern for anyone else. If because of some unfortunate and unforeseen circumstance they happen to be successful in winning this election, lacking a change in course, our national ship will surely impact the 'burg' and those, including many dedicated republicans, who go down with the ship may in the long run be the lucky ones.

It's called oversight. Taxpayers have a right to know what their public officials are doing with their personal finances when there is an economic problem. Have they been looking out for themselves at the expense of the rest of us?

This is a republic not a monarchy. The people in power are accountable to the people who vote them into office.

I have looked into Obama's background. He was never a member of the Weathermen. He never funded them. He spoke out against them. When he grew up like 20 years later, he served on some of the same civic boards as Ayers but that was to help the community not bomb anything.

Ayers is not running for president. However, MCain is; and he's really acted confused and panicked during this crisis. His agenda still continues to be the same one Bush executed for the past eight years.

He says he's a maverick against earmarks but he voted for a mess of them this week.

He says he's for tax cuts but only offers them for the same rich people. He says he's for a health care credit but only if the money goes directly to the insurance companies who can jack up the premiums and deductibles as high as they want.

He doesn't seem to even understand how any of his policies would work or what they are. He's out of touch and in over his head. We need strong and steady leadership to get us through the troubles this county now faces.

McCain needs to retire not take on more than he can handle at this stage of his life. He's showing signs of cracking under the pressure.

Trailing, McCain Prepares to Go Negative Michael D. Shear, The Washington Post: "Senator John McCain and his Republican allies are readying a newly aggressive assault on Sen. Barack Obama's character, believing that to win in November they must shift the conversation back to questions about the Democrat's judgment, honesty and personal associations, several top Republicans said. With just a month to go until Election Day, McCain's team has decided that its emphasis on the senator's biography as a war hero, experienced lawmaker and straight-talking maverick is insufficient to close a growing gap with Obama. The Arizonan's campaign is also eager to move the conversation away from the economy, an issue that strongly favors Obama and has helped him to a lead in many recent polls."

McCain's Challenge Is Underscored by Pullout From Michigan.

The faltering economy has left Sen. John McCain on the political defensive, altering the landscape in many of the most important battleground states and providing a series of avenues for Sen. Barack Obama to claim the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House in November, according to political strategists in both parties.

Over the past two weeks, Obama has opened up leads both nationally and in the states likely to decide the outcome of the presidential election. A combination of factors - the tumult in the financial and credit markets, the performance of the two candidates in responding to it, and increased doubts about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin - have contributed.

McCain's abrupt decision last week to take down his television ads in Michigan and to shift staff to other states highlighted the increasingly challenging environment in which the Republican nominee now finds himself

RECORD REFUTES PALIN'S SUDAN CLAIM

Palin Administration Against Sudan Divestment Before It Was For It, Documents Show
By JUSTIN ROOD

October 3, 2008—

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fought to protest atrocities in Sudan by dropping assets tied to the country's brutal regime from the state's multi-billion-dollar investment fund, she claimed during Thursday's vice presidential debate.

Not quite, according to a review of the public record and according to the recollections of a legislator and others who pushed a measure to divest Alaskan holdings in Sudan-linked investments.

"The [Palin] administration killed our bill," said Alaska state representative Les Gara, D-Anchorage. Gara and state Rep. Bob Lynn, R-Anchorage, co-sponsored a resolution early this year to force the Alaska Permanent Fund a $40 billion investment fund, a portion of whose dividends are distributed annually to state residents to divest millions of dollars in holdings tied to the Sudanese government.

In Thursday's debate, Palin said she had advocated the state divest from Sudan. "When I and others in the legislature found out that we had some millions of dollars [of Permanent Fund investments] in Sudan, we called for divestment through legislation of those dollars," Palin said.

But a search of news clips and transcripts from the first three months of this year did not turn up an instance in which Palin mentioned the Sudanese crisis or concerns about Alaska's investments tied to the ruling regime. Moreover, Palin's administration openly opposed the bill, and stated its opposition in a public hearing on the measure.

"The legislation is well-intended, and the desire to make a difference is noble, but mixing moral and political agendas at the expense of our citizens' financial security is not a good combination," testified Brian Andrews, Palin's deputy revenue commissioner, before a hearing on the Gara-Lynn Sudan divestment bill in February. Minutes from the meeting are posted online by the legislature.

Gara says the lack of support from Palin's administration helped kill the measure.

"I walked out of that hearing livid," Gara recalled of the February meeting. Because of the Palin administration's opposition to the bill, "We could not get a vote in that committee," he explained. At no point did Palin come out in support of the effort, Gara said.

The bill's Republican co-sponsor remembers things differently. "I know she was very strongly behind this," said Rep. Lynn. Asked why, if Palin supported the bill, one of her administration's officials would speak against it, Lynn demurred. "We don't all work in lockstep here," he said. "People have different opinions," he added.

Lynn said he and Palin agreed to re-introduce the bill next January, and push to pass it then. He declined to consider whether stronger support from Palin would have helped the bill survive this winter. "I'm not going to do this what if, what if, what if," he said. "These are hypotheticals."

Gara said that after it was clear the bill had stalled, he and others pressed the administration directly on Sudan divestment.

"We were outraged," Gara recounted. "We went to the Commissioner of Revenue and said, 'What the hell are you guys doing? This is genocide. We're going to keep pushing this until we divest."

Two months later, at the end of the legislative session, the administration softened its position. Appearing before a Senate committee which was considering a companion measure to Gara's bill, Palin's Revenue commissioner, Patrick Galvin, stated the administration supported such a measure, though it hoped to amend the bill to allow for investments held indirectly, for example in index funds.

"We have a moral responsibility to condemn the genocide in Darfur," Palin told a reporter in April, through a spokesperson. "I commend the actions of the Senate State Affairs Committee and I hope the entire legislature gets a chance to weigh in on this matter."

"At the last minute they showed up" and supported the divestment effort, Gara said. But by then the legislative session was almost over, and there wasn't enough time to get it passed.

The Alaska Permanent Fund currently holds $22 million in Sudan-linked investments, according to the non-profit Sudan Divestment Task Force. Divestment advocates say the fund does not need an act of the state legislature to divest itself of those holdings.

The McCain-Palin campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has been a strong supporter of Sudan divestment efforts, and has urged Americans to liquidate their holdings in companies who do business there. He was criticized for that position when it was revealed in May his wife Cindy held $2 million in investment funds owning shares of Sudan-linked companies. She sold those holdings following a reporter's inquiries.

BoilerMan,

At least we'll have someone in office who can draw from the experience and wisdom of FDR.

Our parents and grandparents lived through some of the hardest times this country has ever seen. They raised us to face every adversity with dignity and resolve to do whatever it takes to get this country back on track.

I know that the worst is yet to manifest itself. But I see it as an opportunity to bring this country back together after 40 years of rank opportunists dividing us and diverting our attention from the evil they were doing.

Barack Obama is will suited to leading us in this task. We will overcome and prevail.

I know what you are saying and I agree, Obama is above the fray and we all know that, but America needs to know about this womans church and her dangerous belief that it is gods will, that she was chosen. It's god's war, pray for the gas pipeline. If we don't Quale her now, she will be back and it will be worse for us then. She has to be exposed for what she is, a witch doctor believing, tongue speaking, religious wacko that abuses power because god is on her side. Now is the time to fix her good. Move-on needs to do it, someone needs to do it so we never have to hear her name or see her face in the lower 48 again.

et tu, Rove???

"With 30 days until Nov. 4, Karl Rove projects that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) would get at least 273 electoral votes – three more than are needed to win – if the presidential election were held today.

The remarkable forecast from the architect of the last two nationwide political victories underscores the straits that have rapidly enveloped Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) as the banking and credit crisis spread.

Rove writes on Rove.com: “39 new state polls released in the first three days of October have given Barack Obama his first lead over the magic number of 270 since mid-July. Minnesota (10 EV) and New Hampshire (4 EV) both moved from toss-up to Obama, giving him 273 electoral votes to McCain’s 163, with 102 votes remaining as a toss-up.

“If the election were held today, Obama would win every state John Kerry won in 2004, while adding New Mexico (5 EV), Iowa (7 EV), and Colorado (9 EV) to his coalition. Remember, though, that these state polls are a lagging indicator and most do not include any surveying done after the vice-presidential debate on Thursday night.”

Analysis: Palin's words may backfire on McCain By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL, Associated Press Writer
1 minute ago

WASHINGTON - By claiming that Democrat Barack Obama is "palling around with terrorists" and doesn't see the U.S. like other Americans, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin targeted key goals for a faltering campaign.

And though she may have scored a political hit each time, her attack was unsubstantiated and carried a racially tinged subtext that John McCain himself may come to regret.

First, Palin's attack shows that her energetic debate with rival Joe Biden may be just the beginning, not the end, of a sharpened role in the battle to win the presidency.

"Our opponent ... is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country," Palin told a group of donors in Englewood, Colo. A deliberate attempt to smear Obama, McCain's ticket-mate echoed the line at three separate events Saturday.

"This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America," she said. "We see America as a force of good in this world. We see an America of exceptionalism

The mother of a newborn Down syndrome child would normally be at home on a leave of absence till the full prognosis is determined and a course of treatment is set up. Those first three years are even more important for special needs children.

But the mother will must always return to work when she is forced to for economic reasons. We all know that. But Palin is not in economic straits. Her husband has a good union job with full health benefits. She could be voted out of office within the next two years. Does it make sense for the father to quit his job?

My cousin was diagnosed with such a similar condition. He lived a full and happy life till it came to a short and abrupt end. It was the care and attention of both parents that made his existence rich...and theirs rich in return.

This woman is denying that this sort of commitment is necessary for this to happen for her child. Why? So she can indulge in her own political fantasy?

It's a strange situation being playing out in the middle of a political arena. I worry about the well being of the baby and the rest of the children who are forced to use it as prop at events...and apparently are being asked to take on a large portion of the daily care.

This is not normal and it can't be healthy for any of them. I see the same sort of reckless behavior throughout the McCain campaign. They don't take anything seriously. It's all, "Let's roll the dice and see what happens."

Your family always comes first.

Foreclosures and the Right to Vote

Published: October 4, 2008

The foreclosure crisis could do considerable damage to the nation’s voting system. More than a million people have lost their homes in the past two years. And because voter registration is based on people’s residences, they could face politically motivated challenges at the polls.

The problem may be especially acute in the presidential battleground states. In Ohio, more than 5 percent of home mortgages are seriously delinquent or in the foreclosure process, and there were more than 67,000 foreclosure actions in the first half of 2008. Michigan and Florida have also been hard hit.

There are a large number of advocacy groups and other programs that work to ensure that minorities, the disabled and students are able to cast ballots. Because the foreclosure crisis is so recent, not much work has been done to ensure that people who lose their homes do not also lose their chance to vote.

Many of the hardest-hit neighborhoods are low- income and minority areas, which tend to vote Democratic. That means officials have to be extra vigilant to ensure that Republicans do not use foreclosure lists to challenge voters. There was a dust-up recently in Michigan, after a progressive Web site quoted the Republican chairman of Macomb County as saying that his party planned to do just that. He and the party insist there are no such plans, but the Barack Obama campaign has filed suit to block foreclosure-based challenges.

Whatever happens in Macomb County, where nearly one in every 100 households is in foreclosure, it is likely that in at least some parts of the country there will be challenges to voters who have lost their homes. There is also a real danger that voters who are in foreclosure will be misled or intimidated into not casting ballots.

It is important that state and local elections officials do everything they can to help people caught up in foreclosure to cast ballots. They should make clear that in many circumstances, people in foreclosure still have the right to vote where they have been living. The rules vary by state. They should also widely advertise how people who leave their homes can change their registration, to vote from their new addresses.

Election officials should also ensure that there are enough poll workers to handle the disputes and confusion that could arise — and that they are properly instructed in the law.

Jennifer Brunner, Ohio’s secretary of state, is doing a good job. She has sent an advisory out to local boards of election reminding them that the fact that a voter is involved in a foreclosure is not, by itself, sufficient basis for challenging his or her right to vote.

It has been a long time since there were property requirements for voting. Election officials must not impose them now, by disenfranchising people because they have lost, or are losing, their homes.

Sally hyphen asterisk,

There are more variables to how much sap each tree will produce. Like the size of the tree, the number of taps, the type of season. You are generally correct in stating that each maple tree gives 50 gallons of sap per year, but that figure can only be estimated at 40 - 80 gpy.

Upon boiling the sap a maple syrup producer can look forward to receiving only one quart of syrup per 10 gallons of sap. Here is a nice link How Much Maple Syrup Can I Get? that will help you understand your vexation.

Jim Cramer: Preventing Great Depression II

In this horribly negative, whatever-can-go-wrong-will-go-wrong era, it is only natural to presume that the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program legislation will do nothing.

But on the off chance anyone is listening, I think there's a way to make the legislation do something (even though I don't think it will send the stock market higher).

I think it could: 1.) Limit the Dow to a fall to 8,400, rather than one to 5,000, and 2.) Keep the coming depression -- no, it won't be a mere recession -- shorter than the Great Depression

And just keep shooting themselves in the foot, i would like to grab them and choke them, but that is another story. Most of these people are not educated. I guess that is there downfall, which is what makes me sick, and is exactly what the Repos are counting on with uneducated people.

You really are dufus, the only one on this blog who knows who i really am is Doo Bee, which he called me by name about 3 months, ago when he and i had a little disagreement, and he called me by my real name, which is Marvin, so he won the Lottery, and you lose as usual.

But on the other side of the coin, there is 3 or 4 more that know who i really am. They have been here since the beginning of the blog. And there are 4 to 5 more that don't even bother to blog here anymore.

I have to LMAO, that even if McCain DID win, the first thing he was going to do was to forgive all the illegal aliens and give them amnesty and guest passes for their cousins, and THEN hire Al Gore to be his global Warming specialist ! So it was going to be hilarious should he win!

Pitbull Palin Mauls McCain

By FRANK RICH
Published: October 4, 2008

SARAH PALIN’S post-Couric/Fey comeback at last week’s vice presidential debate was a turning point in the campaign. But if she “won,” as her indulgent partisans and press claque would have it, the loser was not Joe Biden. It was her running mate. With a month to go, the 2008 election is now an Obama-Palin race — about “the future,” as Palin kept saying Thursday night — and the only person who doesn’t seem to know it is Mr. Past, poor old John McCain.

To understand the meaning of Palin’s “victory,” it must be seen in the context of two ominous developments that directly preceded it. Just hours before the debate began, the McCain campaign pulled out of Michigan. That state is ground zero for the collapsed Main Street economy and for so-called Reagan Democrats, those white working-class voters who keep being told by the right that Barack Obama is a Muslim who hung with bomb-throwing radicals during his childhood in the late 1960s.

McCain surrendered Michigan despite having outspent his opponent on television advertising and despite Obama’s twin local handicaps, an unpopular Democratic governor and a felonious, now former, black Democratic Detroit mayor. If McCain can’t make it there, can he make it anywhere in the Rust Belt?

Not without an economic message. McCain’s most persistent attempt, his self-righteous crusade against earmarks, collapsed with his poll numbers. Next to a $700 billion bailout package, his incessant promise to eliminate all Washington pork — by comparison, a puny grand total of $16.5 billion in the 2008 federal budget — doesn’t bring home the bacon. Nor can McCain reconcile his I-will-veto-government-waste mantra with his support, however tardy, of the bailout bill. That bill’s $150 billion in fresh pork includes a boondoggle inserted by the Congressman Don Young, an Alaskan Republican no less...

Now McCain is looking increasingly shaky, whether he’s repeating his “Miss Congeniality” joke twice in the same debate or speaking from notecards even when reciting a line for (literally) the 17th time (“The fundamentals of our economy are strong”) or repeatedly confusing proper nouns that begin with S (Sunni, Shia, Sudan, Somalia, Spain). McCain’s “dismaying temperament,” as George Will labeled it, only thickens the concerns. His kamikaze mission into Washington during the bailout crisis seemed crazed. His seething, hostile debate countenance — a replay of Al Gore’s sarcastic sighing in 2000 — didn’t make the deferential Obama look weak (as many Democrats feared) but elevated him into looking like the sole presidential grown-up....

So how can a desperate G.O.P. save itself? As McCain continues to fade into incoherence and irrelevance, the last hope is that he’ll come up with some new game-changing stunt to match his initial pick of Palin or his ill-fated campaign “suspension.” Until Thursday night, more than a few Republicans were fantasizing that his final Hail Mary pass would be to ditch Palin so she can “spend more time” with her ever-growing family. But the debate reminded Republicans once again that it’s Palin, not McCain, who is their last hope for victory.

You have to wonder how long it will be before they plead with him to think of his health, get out of the way and pull the ultimate stunt of flipping the ticket. Palin, we can be certain, wouldn’t even blink.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/05/opinion/05rich.html?hp

Sorry for the long post. But we need to realize that the lovely Sarah has a very good chance of becoming President if Obama doesn't win in November.

McCain is obviously incapable of serving. And she's salivating at the prospect.

What does that tell us about the end of Western Civilization as we know it? Cheney and Beauty Queen will reign supreme for as long as they want...or as long as the destroy their kingdom.

Winning the Battle, Losing the Faith

By NATHANIEL C. FICK and VIKRAM J. SINGH

Published: October 4, 2008

WASHINGTON

“THE lion of the people will turn on you,” warned Mullah Wakil Ahmed Muttawakil, a former Taliban foreign minister, as we sipped green tea at his home in Kabul a few weeks ago. He noted that while Americans had been shocked by a series of spectacular insurgent attacks over the summer, the United States-led coalition faced a far greater danger than the resurgent Taliban: growing despair among average Afghans that their government is fundamentally illegitimate.

Every aspect of sound counterinsurgency strategy revolves around bolstering the government’s legitimacy. When ordinary people lose their faith in their government, then they also lose faith in the foreigners who prop it up. The day that happens across Afghanistan is the day we lose the war...

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/05/opinion/05fick.html?th&emc=th

(Emphasis mine.)

There is a crisis of confidence in our country, too. Maybe that's why we can't create it in Afghanistan? Maybe we should work on the more immediate problem first?

I think the logic is pretty simple. The Republicans don't want Caribou Barbie doing any more interviews. Why? Because she gets tripped up by even the easy questions like what news papers she reads. So how in the hell do they expect us to believe she would make a good president if McLame kicked-the-bucket? Can you imagine her discussing global issues with other world leaders??? They don't trust her to do interviews but they expect us to trust her with the future of our country. WOW. Republican dishonesty just like Bush.

Obama should hire Carol McCain (the first wife). Pay her to introduce him at some campaign events. Get her some air time. He won't even have to say who she is or what her background is (Mother of McLame's three oldest children). The news will pick it up. It will be the story.

"Verdict: False. There is no indication that Ayers and Obama are now "palling around," or that they have had an ongoing relationship in the past three years. Also, there is nothing to suggest that Ayers is now involved in terrorist activity or that other Obama associates are."

so mccain and palin are desperate...

We learned it from native Americans. Sugar was their basic seasoning for almost everything (not salt): grains, breads, berries, teas, stews, vegetables, etc.

Large amounts of sugar were made during the few weeks each spring when maple sap runs. It was so central to subsistance that native Americans here named the month after it "the month (moon) of boiling."

GregL on October 6, 2008 at 08:04 AM

Than there are those who should scare us. The antics of Vladimir Zhirinovsky come to mind. The man is power mad, brutish in temper, crude in manner and ever ready to scream, threat, curse or even fist fight with fellow parliamentarians. Of course the Americans have a similar man to Vladimir, one named John, that is, John McCain.

The difference of course is that no serious person in their right mind, in Russia, would ever place Zhirinovsky in charge of the country, but half the American electorate is getting ready to do just that in America.

In one famous incident reported in a biographical work of McCain, The Real McCain, brings to light what kind of man may soon run the United States:

Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain’s intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain’s hair and said, “You’re getting a little thin up there.” McCain’s face reddened, and he responded, “At least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt.” McCain’s excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.

One Republican insider told Sky News: "Everyone in Washington's political circles has a McCain story - a moment when they have suddenly witnessed him losing it for a few seconds. He flies off the handle without warning."

A former Senator Bob Smith, from the Republican Party of the state of New Hampshire, opined that McCain's rage quotient "would place this country at risk in international affairs, and the world perhaps in danger."

Another American Senator from the Republicans, who has known McCain for almost thirty years, Thad Cochran, was quoted in January 2008 as saying: "The thought of his [McCain] being President sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and that worries me."

So this what Russian negotiators and politicians should be prepared to deal with: a man who can explode and make rash decisions in anger. One of two things will happen in this case: either he will be obeyed and Christ help all of us or those around him will "handle" him and he will be nothing more than a figure head. In this case, Russia will more than likely be dealing with the likes of Lieberman as the brains in the outfit.

A final quote, from a retired American military man, should leave everyone disturbed by what the future may shortly bring for humanity. A retired US Army colonel and former top aide for former Secretary of State Colin Powell described McCain as: No dissent, no opinion to the contrary, however reasonable, will be entertained [with McCain]. Hardheaded is another way to say it. Arrogant is another way to say it. Hubristic is another way to say it. Too proud for his own good is another way to say it. It's a quality about him that disturbs me."

This is either senility or a pure psychosis. Either way it does not bode well for world peace or America's future.

well, it is nice to see you are finally admitting to being what you are, Stevie.
The first step is admitting you have a problem! :)

Morning gregg,

The CBS Late News also broke the Keating Five story. We need to stick to mcgeezer. We cannot risk another Hitler or Stalin on this planet.

That Rolling Stone article also included one on the very Wacky, Weird Palin:

Here's the thing about Americans. You can send their kids off by the thousands to get their balls blown off in foreign lands for no reason at all, saddle them with billions in debt year after congressional year while they spend their winters cheerfully watching game shows and football, pull the rug out from under their mortgages, and leave them living off their credit cards and their Wal-Mart salaries while you move their jobs to China and Bangalore.

And none of it matters, so long as you remember a few months before Election Day to offer them a two-bit caricature culled from some cutting-room-floor episode of Roseanne as part of your presidential ticket. And if she's a good enough likeness of a loudmouthed Middle American archetype, as Sarah Palin is, John Q. Public will drop his giant-size bag of Doritos in gratitude, wipe the Sizzlin' Picante dust from his lips and rush to the booth to vote for her. Not because it makes sense, or because it has a chance of improving his life or anyone else's, but simply because it appeals to the low-humming narcissism that substitutes for his personality, because the image on TV reminds him of the mean, brainless slob he sees in the mirror every morning (HMMMMM, NOW WHO DOES THIS REMIND YOU OF?)

MAKE SURE EVERYONE YOU KNOW UNDERSTANDS THIS FROM THAT ROLLING STONE ARTICLE:

There's a distance between the two men that belies their shared experience in North Vietnam — call it an honor gap. Like many American POWs, McCain broke down under torture and offered a "confession" to his North Vietnamese captors. Dramesi, in contrast, attempted two daring escapes. For the second he was brutalized for a month with daily torture sessions that nearly killed him. His partner in the escape, Lt. Col. Ed Atterberry, didn't survive the mistreatment. But Dramesi never said a disloyal word, and for his heroism was awarded two Air Force Crosses, one of the service's highest distinctions. McCain would later hail him as "one of the toughest guys I've ever met."

I am watching in amazement as John McCain continues to take weekends off! 30 days left in this campaign, and he still will not work weekends. WHAT will he do if he gets to be President? Will he continue to take the weekend off? Will he be in his jammies and in bed at 8PM each night? Will that 3AM phone call go into voice mail? Will the terrorist attacks in the US get put on hold to be dealt with in the morning or on Monday?

Anyone who does not admit 72 is way too old to be President is just as wacky as this old man.

GregL,

Hey buddy, lighten up. Sometimes you just have to point out how assanine these troll's posts are. Even if it is fallacy on sugaring Maple trees! If you point out the small lies, it makes newbies and lurkers aware that all his posts are lies. :)

Morning Gregg, Yes, the frost is on the pumpkins! :)

make sure you all watch for this and move it on to everyone you know with a note for them to move it on!

"Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Monday will launch a multimedia campaign to draw attention to the involvement of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the “Keating Five” savings-and-loan scandal of 1989-91, which blemished McCain’s public image and set him on his course as a self-styled reformer.

Pushing back against what it calls McCain's “guilt-by-association” tactics, the Obama campaign is e-mailing millions of supporters a link to a website, KeatingEconomics.com, which will have a 13-minute documentary on the scandal beginning at noon Eastern time on Monday. The overnight e-mails urge recipients to pass the link on to friends.

A couple of quick thoughts on Keating and Ayers. First, Obama's campaign has been notably disciplined in not talking about Keating, so this rollout will perhaps have a bit more pop in the media than the Ayers story, which McCain started talking about a while ago, and which was raked over pretty thoroughly in the primary.

Second, Keating is a story both more and less damaging for McCain than the Ayers story for Obama.

More damaging because the story of McCain and Keating is not guilt by association; it's guilt by guilt. McCain's problem isn't that he knew Keating in activities unconnected to his wrongdoing; it's that Keating, in the course of his wrondoing, gave McCain money and tried, with a bit of success, to use him to influence regulators. It's also part of the case Obama's making that McCain has opposed necessarily financial regulations.

McCain did no more than many lawmakers do for many constituents, and there's no evidence he knew Keating was a felon. But this isn't guilt by association either.

The case for Keating being less relevant is that McCain hardly hides the affair. He called it, in his 2002 autobiography, "the worst mistake of my life." He remade himself as a reformer in reaction to the scandal. McCain's case isn't that you should ignore his sin, or that it isn't a sin; it's that he's expiated it.

Fact Check: Is Obama 'palling around with terrorists'?

Verdict: False. There is no indication that Ayers and Obama are now "palling around," or that they have had an ongoing relationship in the past three years. Also, there is nothing to suggest that Ayers is now involved in terrorist activity or that other Obama associates are.

another fact check to send around to the McCain believers!

Fact Check: McCain's proposed health care tax credit
Posted: 07:56 PM ET

Sen. Obama spoke about health care Saturday in Newport News, Virginia.
The Statement: At a campaign stop Saturday, Oct. 4, in Newport News, Virginia, Sen. Barack Obama discussed Sen. John McCain's health care plan. He argued that many people would lose their employer-provided health insurance, and would be left trying to buy health insurance plans for their families with the $5,000 tax credit the McCain plan offers. Obama said, "What Senator McCain doesn't tell you is that the average cost of a family health care plan these days is more than twice that much — $12,680. So where would that leave you? Broke."

The Verdict: True. In the narrow set of circumstances Obama lays out, workers who lose employer-sponsored health insurance would need to spend "more than twice" the amount of McCain's tax credit in order to maintain the same plan they have today.

Editors Note: This story, and the verdict, were updated after a closer review of the context of Obama's remarks.

Good morning, all!

WTF is McNitwit doing saying that Obama is "palling around" with "terrorists"? SHE and her husband belonged (Todd still does) to a separatist terrorism group that wants Alaska to break from the USA nad take all the oil with them.

The founder was murdered in a failed C4 deal. What the heck does the Alaska Separatist movement need plastics explosives for, if not to blow stuff up.

Remains of Alaska Separatist Are Identified

The blue tarp and duct tape in which the remains were wrapped, officials said, matched a description given by a convicted thief, Manfred West, who confessed last summer that he had killed Mr. Vogler in a plastic-explosives sale gone bad and had then buried him.

I know the trolls are going to say she never officially joined that group (although she attended the meetings) but the "First Dude" sure as Hell did, and she is married to him! That is far closer than the alleged "palling around" with someone who was never convicted of a damn thing.

And if being on the same Board of a school reform group and a charity is "palling around" then what is sleeping with a guy who belongs to a domestic terrorism group?

Good morning, screwum. In basic terms, McLame-o was bought and paid for by some rat bastard busines partner of his wife and the Maverick muscled through a bunch of Savings & Loan legislation that led to the collapse of the S & L industry, after Keating and Chimpy's brother drained all the vaults. Keating was locked up for this, and McLame was chastised by the Senate Ethics Committee. It was another "youthful indiscretion" committed by a clown who at the time was 7 years older than Obama is now.

It eventually cost the American taxpayers $1.1 Billion Dollars in 1980 money to fix their mess.

Keating is also the same prude who took on Larry Flynt and had him arrested for pornography. Flynt won that case in the Supreme Court.

He was just your basic Pug hypocrite and thieving hack.

Does anyone get the Field and Stream magazine? I was flipping through it this morning and came to an abrupt halt. They did one whole anti-Obama page saying how he doesn't support guns. It went on and on. Ok I thought - so they have taken a stand against Obama. But when I turned back a page, I was furious! The page before the anti-Obama ad was another full page ad, this one for a clock. It wasn't the clock that made me so angry; it was what was on the clock - a Confederate flag. The clock is entitled - "Echoes of Glory" and it's about Robert E. Lee.

But it was the placement of the ad - just before an anti-Obama ad that drew my attention. I'm sure that Field and Stream placed it there knowing full well the intent.

Please email Field and Stream and voice your opposite to this bigoted hatred! Go to FSletters@bonniercorp.com

Thanks!
Kathy in Indiana
