Obama was in the voting booth and looked like he couldn't figure out how to vote. Seriously, I've been there also. Your soo nervous, sometimes the button on the machine doesn't match up with the candidate.

He was looking over to see what Michelle was doing. She was going at it. He then started laughing with his daughter.

If he was a little confused, then how can we expect people who are not genius's to figure it out?

5
newsjunkie on November 4, 2008 at 08:53 AM

WOW, that took forever! He just turned in his ballot. They gave him an "I Voted" sticker, so now he can get a free coffee at Starbucks, a free ice cream cone from Ben & Jerry's and a free beer at my local bar.

Biden just showed up at his polling place in DE.

Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on November 4, 2008 at 08:55 AM

My husband went to vote this morning, I'm waiting until later. I'd be surprised if there are lines, last presidental election less than 2000 people voted at this place.

7
newsjunkie on November 4, 2008 at 09:00 AM

Good morning, all.

My husband left at 5:30 to get to the polling place early. He still isn't home yet. That's two and half hours so far.

I'm going to canvass this morning and vote with my two college age sons this afternoon. This is the first time my youngest will be voting for President.

It's going to be in the mid 70's and sunshine here in Missouri...unbelievable. The leaves are at their peak color. You can feel the excitement in the air.

SandyH on November 4, 2008 at 09:00 AM

I could use some VERY QUICK advice. I'm an undecided voter, and I'm about to go vote.

Can anyone tell me why I should vote for Obama despite his broken promise on the FISA filibuster and telecom amnesty? I'm still extremely angry about that.

I live in Rhode Island, so my vote won't make a difference in whether or not he wins the state; he will. But it sticks in my craw that he broke his word (along with much of the Democratic leadership) and helped to cover up Bush Administration crimes against the Constitution and the privacy rights of Americans.

My wife is calling for me; I only have a minute at best. Please, if you can, tell me why I should vote for Obama instead of someone like Cynthia McKinney.

He used a paper "bed sheet" ballot. There are a boat load of initiatives and races on the ballot, including that STUPID Judicial Retention Selection section. You have to vote yes / no for each Judge including Traffic Court. What a ridiculous way to pick Judges.

For the Primary I had a 2 page ballot, with races on both sides.

Biden was in and out in about 1 minute. He must have voted straight party, and DE probably doesn't have many referendums.

10
Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on November 4, 2008 at 09:04 AM

Well, I voted thos morning. Things went very smoothly at my precinct. I got there right a 6:00 and there were already 150-200 people in line. By the time the polls opened at 7:00 there were probably 500 people waiting. But it went very quickly - i was out the door at 8:03.

I was thrilled to see many young people, especially African-Americans, in line to vote. I hope we have such a good turnout of young voters everywhere.

12
Lizard on November 4, 2008 at 09:38 AM

Christopher_blunt_proud_member_of_the_VLWC, I wish you'd read what I wrote. I was NOT going to vote for McCain. And believe it or not, I'm better-informed about the candidates and the issues than most voters; otherwise, why would I be upset about FISA and telecom amnesty?

I was trying to decide between Cynthia McKinney and Obama, NOT McCain and Obama.

I voted in my tiny town at 6:30AM. It was so exciting to cast the vote for Barack and Joe....I have waited for this day. My only fear is that the Republicans will find some way to steal the election.....dirty tricks are already being reported like the phone call telling voters to vote on Wednesday for Obama. I will be on edge until I know that they won!!!

17
Cate on November 4, 2008 at 10:10 AM

Well, that was painless. My polling place was organized like it was designed by a Japanese engineer. They had someone at the main door to the school - (they gave the kids the day off. Smart thinking) - asking people for their adress and checking the master list. Then I was directed to whichever door to the gym was designated for my precinct.

When the line got to where it was out the door a volunteer went outside and did the triage, separating people by precinct and directing them to other doors.

Then the assembly line really kicked into high gear. After that it was a breeze. Book, signature, ballot, cubicle, box, "I Voted" sticker. ZOOM!

Home and back ~ 45 minutes, in spite of what looked like a long line it zoomed.

"stregthening our relationship so we have a good trade relationship" she speaks soo vague. I'm pretty sure what is "good" to her isn't "good" to me.

Obama, speaks of what needs to be fixed in the trade deals. Like not giving tax incentive to US firms to leave.

Thousands of US corps. moved to canada because canada has Universal Health Care so the employers don't have to pay for that.

DIXVILLE NOTCH, New Hampshire (CNN) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama emerged victorious in the first election returns of the 2008 presidential race, winning 15 of 21 votes cast in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire.

People in the isolated village in New Hampshire's northeast corner voted just after midnight Tuesday.

It was the first time since 1968 that the village leaned Democratic in an election.

Obama's rival, Republican John McCain, won 6 votes.

New Troopergate report clears Palin

By LISA DEMER | ldemer@adn.com

Published: November 3rd, 2008 05:56 PM
Last Modified: November 3rd, 2008 05:57 PM

A new report just released -- hours before the polls open on Election Day -- exonerates Gov. Sarah Palin in the Troopergate controversy.

The state Personnel Board-sanctioned investigation is the second into whether Palin violated state ethics law in firing her public safety commissioner, and it contradicts the earlier findings by a special counsel hired by the state Legislature.

Both investigations found that Palin was within her rights to fire Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.

But the new report says the Legislature's investigator was wrong to conclude that Palin abused her power by allowing aides and her husband, Todd, to pressure Monegan and others to dismiss her ex-brother-in-law, Trooper Mike Wooten. Palin was accused of firing Monegan after Wooten stayed on the job.

The Palins have argued that Wooten was a loose cannon who had tasered his stepson, drank beer in his patrol car, and threatened Palin's father, and that their complaints that he shouldn't be on the force were justified.

The Troopergate matter became sharply politicized after Palin was announced as Republican presidential candidate John McCain's running mate in Tuesday's election.

The report, released at a Monday afternoon press conference at the Hotel Captain Cook, presents the findings and recommendations of Anchorage lawyer Timothy Petumenos, hired as independent counsel for the Personnel Board to examine several complaints against Palin.

Petumenos wrote the Legislature's special counsel, former state prosecutor Steve Branchflower, used the wrong state law as the basis for his conclusions and also misconstrued the evidence.

His findings and recommendations include:

- There is no cause to believe Palin violated the state ethics law in deciding to dismiss Monegan as public safety commissioner.

- There is no cause to believe Palin violated the state ethics law in connection with Wooten.

- There is no cause to believe any other state official violated the ethics act.

- There's no basis to conduct a hearing to "address reputational harm," as requested by Monegan.

Coal Officials Blast Obama Over Remarks

Monday, November 3, 2008 8:36 PM

By: Dave Eberhart Article Font Size

The president of the Ohio Coal Association (OCA) today blasted Barrack Obama over his newly emerging position on how the coal industry will languish while he is in the White House.

Mike Carey issued the following statement in response to just-released remarks from Senator Barack Obama about the nation’s coal industry.

“Regardless of the timing or method of the release of these remarks, the message from the Democratic candidate for President could not be clearer: the Obama-Biden ticket spells disaster for America’s coal industry and the tens of thousands of Americans who work in it.

“These undisputed, audio-taped remarks, which include comments from Senator Obama like ‘I haven’t been some coal booster’ and ‘if they want to build [coal plants], they can, but it will bankrupt them’ are extraordinarily misguided.

“It’s evident that this campaign has been pandering in states like Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana and Pennsylvania to attempt to generate votes from coal supporters, while keeping his true agenda hidden from the state’s voters.

“Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short-sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation’s coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to ‘bankrupt’ our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.

“In addition to providing an affordable, reliable source of low-cost electricity, domestic coal holds the key to our nation’s long-term energy security – a goal that cannot be overlooked during this time of international instability and economic uncertainty.

“Few policy areas are more important to our economic future than energy issues. As voters head to the polls tomorrow, it is essential they remember that access to reliable, affordable, domestic energy supplies is essential to economic growth and stability.”

The San Francisco Chronicle story published a story on Obama last Jan. 18 based upon a taped Jan. 17 interview. That story, however, did not include any mention of Obama's willingness to bankrupt the coal industry, which can be heard on the newly uncovered audio.

To a republican, only the outcome matters; not the dirt you had to slog through and the bar you had to lower to get there.

YayObama on November 4, 2008 at 02:00 PM

Good afternoon, all

I'm back from canvassing. Everything is going great. We're going to make three sweeps today of all our precincts....and we are still finding votes.

I found eight houses with Obama signs that were not on our list. One said that they had five votes (2 parents, a high school senior, and three college kids).

The field office is swamped with volunteers. The enthusiasm is tremendous. Nobody is seeing any McCain volunteers canvassing in the neighborhood. There was no McCain literature being dropped.

The topper? When I got home, the doorbell rang and there was an Obama volunteer doing what I had done all morning...GOTV.

After we vote later this afternoon (when my oldest son gets back from class) we are going to vote together with some of their friends...and then they promised to do one of the late sweeps.

It's so exciting ito see how all our hard work and organization are coming together. The rewards will last far beyond this election.

I can't wait for the mid-terms so we can use our data base and volunteer structure to go after Republican Senator Kit Bond. He's outlived his welcome. We need new ideas and some common sense change.

This is only the beginning.

The economy sucks. We need change because the Republicans have done a terrible job. They have been corrupt and incompetent. There is a lot of corruption in Alaskan politics.

A vote for McCain-Palin means we want to force these two teenagers to play house for the next 4 to 8 years. While a vote for Barack Obama will be a vote to let Levi hop on the next merchant marine vessel out of Alaska. If the Palins don't make it to Washington, they don't need Levi to keep up appearances. It was clear by the way they were shuffling Bristol in and out of high schools pre-election that they were trying to keep these lovebirds apart, so they'd probably be happy to see him go. But if McCain-Palin takes it, Levi's locked in. The question is put to America: Do we support politically motivated shotgun weddings or don't we? Only time will tell.

On the same note, a McCain-Palin ticket would also force Florida Gov Charlie Crist to go through with his own (by most accounts) sham engagement. If he wants to work with a McCain administration, he's going to have to keep up the sort of appearances Washington demands of a guy like Crist. Considering that Crist extended early voting hours in his state, he might be thinking an Obama presidency would be happy to work with a "confirmed bachelor" just as he is.

Calling "Kathy" a "loonie" is not the same thing as saying that Sarah Palin is a failure.

Sarah Palin is a failure. She was so naive to believe that the disc jockey from Canada was the President of France.

"Kathy" isn't running for Vice President.

And besides, "Failin" rhymes with "Palin". And it's also true.

Sarah Palin is a failure because she was tricked by a Canadian disc jockey. Sarah Palin would easily be fooled by the leaders of nations like Iran, North Korea, China and Russia.

That is not good for America.

Read the whole thing. Here is the relevent part that was sliced and diced by the right wing liars.

OBAMA: Let me sort of describe my overall policy. I mean, what I've said is that we would put a cap-and-trade system in place that is more - that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there. I was the first call for a 100 percent auction on the cap-and-trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases was emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted-down caps that are placed -- imposed every year.

So, if somebody wants to build a coal power plant, they can. It's just that, it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted. That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel, and other alternative energy approaches. The only thing that I've said, with a respect to coal -- I haven't been some coal booster -- what I have said is, that, for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter, as opposed to saying, if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it. You know, that I think is the right approach.

Wash. Post misrepresented Obama's remark to SF Chronicle editorial board about coal

So, for the soft brained out there in Wingnutostan, if the coal companies don't want to spend a few bucks cleaning up their own mess, they will be fined out of business.

Pollute = Pay.

How is that too hard to grasp?

Patrick Buchanon who is a Republican and a Conservative believes that Obama is a centrist. If Patrick Buchanon, who has always been against the Democrats, thinks that Obama is a centrist than you have to wonder about the shift in political ideology that is going on today in America.

Instead, the Republican rump, the party that’s left after the election, will be the party that attends Sarah Palin’s rallies, where crowds chant “Vote McCain, not Hussein!” It will be the party of Saxby Chambliss, the senator from Georgia, who, observing large-scale early voting by African-Americans, warns his supporters that “the other folks are voting.” It will be the party that harbors menacing fantasies about Barack Obama’s Marxist — or was that Islamic? — roots.

Why will the G.O.P. become more, not less, extreme? For one thing, projections suggest that this election will drive many of the remaining Republican moderates out of Congress, while leaving the hard right in place.

I accepted one cup - but they were really great!

I dipped my left index finger in red and blue ink before I went to vote this morning. As I watched a story on voter suppression in Ohio in 2004 and Florida 2000 last night. I got angry. I wondered why in Iraq and Afghanistan do repubs see the purple finger as a sign of democracy and here they try to stop fellow citizens from voting. So I made my finger purple for 2000, for 2004 and for the century of African American disfranchisement, for Sojourner Truth, for Harriet Tubman, for Martin Luther King, for Fannie Lou Hamer, for Goodman, Schwerner, and Cheney, for Viola Liuzzo, for Harriet, Flora, Dinah, Lockhart--some of my slave ancestors. For my Grandma Matt, and Big Mama, for my daughters and their future, for America, and for HOPE.

I waited about an hour and there was no drama. The most remarkable thing is that they let our daughters (we have two about the same years apart as the Obamas) watch us vote. My brother took his children with him.

See you at the inauguration!

Oh for heaven's sake - Sen. Obama received an endorsement from Christopher Buckley, the son of William F. Buckley. He had, up until then, worked for a right wing media outlet; however, his endorsement cost him his job. Further, William F. Buckley originally coined the phrase 'neo-conservative' when describing himself and is therefore considered the "original neo-con!"
Further, Sen. Obama, in addition to the Buckley endorsement has received endorsements from the following prominent Republican Families:
Eisenhower/Nixon (Remember - David Eisenhower married on of the Nixon Girls) Families
Goldwater Family
Reagan Family
Fmr. Sec. of State Colin Powell and
Fed. Chairman Ben Bernanke
They actually have their own web site and name: Obamacans!
In addition, Sen. Obama has been endorsed by multiple Nobel Prize Winners, including winners for economics Dr. Paul Krugman and Joseph Stiglitz.
That's right - John McCain gets endorsements from Joe the Plumber and Bochpheus
Sen. Obama get endorsements from ...
well, mostly every non-racist with an I.Q. in the triple digits!

Oh no, the guy who handles the printing for our company is very active in the repug party and said that there is already talk about two people for 2012 = Jeb Bush and Ms. Governor Haley Barbour. I don't know which is worse or if either one is better than Bible Spice!

Jaunc,

Sarah Palin received the endorsement of the AIP and that is an anti-American successionist group.

You not be mad at the Democratic Party. You should be mad at Sarah Palin.

Sarah "Failin" Palin is gullible and naive because she was easily tricked by a Canadian disc jockey that pretended to be the president of France.

Sarah "Failin" Palin sounded like she enjoyed talking to the president of France.

Whatever happened to Republican "Freedom Fries"?

YayObama on November 4, 2008 at 05:03 PM

About my last post - the guy from the printing company - back when J. McCain was broke and all but out of the race, told me that J. McCain would win the nomination and that - to be successful - he would need to nominate someone to appease the base of the repug. party. He named off several, including the 'new governor of Alaska.' He could not remember her name at that moment but said that she would be a good choice to 'shore up' the base. In the years that I have known him and listened to him talk about the repug. party (he knows that I am a dem.), he has yet to be wrong about the innerworkings of the repug. party.
Oh - he also said - nearly a year ago - that, regardless of who the repugs nominate, Sen. Obama (when Sen. H. Clinton was still the front runner in the Dem. Party) was going to win by a landslide. He put the blame on Rumsfield and Cheney but after I pushed him a little admitted that Bush should have done a better job.
He personally knows (and loathes) Karl Rove.

YO..you can't reform stupid. You are not seeing anger...you are seeing stupid in full flight. It's not a behavioral problem, it's not even a diagnosable disorder. It can't be treated.

It is genetic. Some of the unfortunate, have through no fault of their own, suffer from a long line of disabling stupidity. Some are more entertaining than others. Some of them actually appear hear from time to time and participate.

But that's all they do. They are able to mimic republican talking points, memorize Rush Rhetoric and then regurgitate it hear.

Like the chimpanzees at the zoo and like chimpanzees at the zoo, they eventually eat their own shit or get distracted with their micro penis and masturbate.

Stick around for a while and witness. It is amazing and a riot to observe.

Plus, you can have some fun with them...My mother often warned me about going into battle against and unarmed individual and to be nice.

That rule applies for me for every sentinent human being, bar a republican troll.

Have fun with them....and watch as they roll around in their own bullshit and then eat a mouthfull. :)

MARYMAC,

That is my understanding of McCain too.

McCain's inevitable failure is his supreme loyalty to a political party and his futile attempt to paint himself as some "Maverick" that is willing to go against his own party.

You can't be loyal and go against your own party both at the same time.

McCain never had a chance of winning this election by campaigning that he is against Bush while at the same time picking VP nominees to appease the Bush supporters who still approve of his job performance.

I think that you meant Secessionist Group not Successionist
Succession: King George the First was succeeded by King George
Secessionist is one who participates in the breaking off of one group from another (usually larger) group.

Normally I would not correct a simple spelling error from a fellow Democratic Blogger (God know I make my share) but this is a radically different meaning and could be mis-interpreted. Please forgive any insult as none was intended - I'm just trying to ensure that your meaning is clear and that you are not misunderstood.

The Republican Party is shitting itself. They got nobody and I mean nobody. There is no talent there and that is best illustrated by the fact that a maverick garden gnome wound up as their candidate this year.

Palin 2012?? She is going to have her hands full after this election avoiding impeachment in her state. Oil prices have gone in the toilet and there ain't gonna be any free handouts. Imaging earmarks for Alaska now.

Jeb Bush?? Brahahahaha.....after his brother...no Bush will ever be seriously considered for public office. That family has imploded. Junior better watch out. The Corleone Family knew how to deal with Fredo.

Nope...the Republicans are in the woods and it will take a decade for them to recover.

Good evening, everyone.

Just back from voting...it only took about 30 minutes. It would have taken less time if there hadn't been so many propositions on the ballot to consider.

When are our legislators going to address these real problems we elected them to deal with instead of dumping them at our feet on election day to figure out? We obviously need to elect more Democrats if things are ever to change.

That begins tonight, right?

Sandy: I took a few hours off from work this morning to drive people to the polls. While everyone at each poll that I drove to had to wait, no one waited more than 20 minutes or so. The place where I normally vote was packed to the rafters this morning. There was zero parking - even handicap was full; but, after about 1:00 PM, it thinned out.
Oh - and everyone - let's be sure that sent out some good 'thoughts' for Pam and Esme who are working their butts off - I am sure! I can't speak for anyone else here, but I have learned an awful lot from those two good ladies!

182
marymac_memphis on November 4, 2008 at 05:37 PM

And there were none...and I mean nobody handing out election flyers at my poll. There was one Republican candidate running for County office shaking hands but that was it.

I know where all the Democrats were...knocking on doors and making phone calls. But where are the Republicans? They aren't canvassing or we would have seen them today. They are using robo calls, so they're not on the phone.

I don't think the Republican organization is supporting McCain at all here in St. Louis. It's big news when the Republican Old Timers in my neighborhood don't show up on Election Day to put on their usual big show of force.

"John doesn't need the money. He's got plenty of money, even without Cindy's money. Our (her and her sister Roberta's) father was immensely rich, our family is very wealthy".

Now, how many of you knew that, in addition to marrying into vast wealth, John McCain was born into it?

Know where Roberta McCain's wealth comes from?

Oil and bootlegging. And, apparently, cheating Native Americans out of their property.

McCain-Obama Race May Be Decided Early; Watch Virginia's Vote

Nov. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama and John McCain will be carefully watching Virginia early tonight. Television viewers should, too.

The state is in the first wave to close polling places, at 7 p.m. Washington time. The results will be telling. Obama has pushed hard to flip the state, which hasn't backed a Democratic presidential candidate since 1964, and he led in pre-election polls.

``An Obama win in Virginia would be a sign the race is over,'' said John Fortier, a research fellow at Washington's American Enterprise Institute who wrote a book about the U.S. Electoral College. ``If he wins Virginia, he is likely to be doing well elsewhere.''...

If it is an upscale neighborhood it might be Republicans hurrying to their SUVs with their newly purchased flat screen televisions. They want to catch the election results in high definition quality.

If it is in a bad neighborhood it might be the democrats scurrying to their stolen cars with recently looted televisions. They want to get away as fast as possible before the Korean store owners start picking them off from surrounding rooftops.

Only Satan would have been worse than the Bush regime. Therefore it could be argued that the new administration in the USA could never be worse than the one which divorced the hearts and minds of Americans from their brothers in the international community, which appalled the rest of the world with shock and awe tactics that included concentration camps, torture, mass murder and utter disrespect for international law. Yet in choosing Obama, the people of America have opted to come back into the international fold. Welcome back, friends!

Those of us in the international community who predicted eight long years ago what would happen if Bush were elected must do two things. First, never forget the damage done by George W. Bush and his minions of evil and make sure that, like the generations after Hitler, history does not pardon these criminals as well-meaning politicians who were the victims of tough times. Secondly, we must give Brack Obama a blank page to write on, and hand him the pen with a sincere and open smile.

Currently, we are projected to have 200 electoral votes by ABC and MSNBC. CA has 55, OR has 7, WA has 11, and HI has 4. Do the math. The west coast total is 77. That makes for 277 electoral votes.

Obama has a genuine mandate from the majority of America. And his support is absolute.

Obama will prove to be a patriotic American who cares about the well being of this country. And his work over the next four years will be unfettered because of the support he won from Obama Republicans.

The extreme right and what's left of the republican party is almost officially rendered futile and irrelevant.

HE fucked up the Country so badly that HE will bear the brunt of the scorn.

HE will be lucky to slink his lame ass out of DC in the dark of night without being on a rail, covered in tar and feathers.

The Pugs don't take losing well, and Chimpy caused their downfall and the death of the Theocrat-Corporatist-Oligarchy's dream of a "permanent Pug majority"..

The Pugs will never forgive him, and his Daddy will probably disown him.

How long until Pickles flees?

sarah palin joins the ranks of vp candidates like Jack Kemp, Joe Lieberman, Dan Quayle, even...

...John Edwards, Geraldine Ferraro.

VP candidates who lose don't have a strong history of making a political comeback after four years.

She will have too many competitors and very little clout to work with.

It's just history.

We will disagree more than we will agree. Thus is the nature of life and politics. I'm looking forward to debating the next four years with y'all. I shall consider you a member of the loyal opposition and give you the proper respect of such. I hope y'all will do the same.

415YayObama on November 4, 2008 at 10:25 PM sarah palin has less of a chance of being a competitive candidate for president than Dan Quayle.

In her current form, I agree 100%. Time will tell how good her national political instincts (and her ability to adapt) are.

In the end issues and policies matter - not party - that's the verdict people across the country are delivering today.

Hi, Barbi.

So how does it feel to live in a reality-based world again? We can all breathe again?

I'm still crossing my fingers hoping Obama wins Indiana and Missouri. Since our candidate for Governor is winning big in Missouri, I'm hoping he'll have coat tails for Obama/Biden.

That would make the whole upper right quadrant blue again…along with a fair share of both coasts. That red blotch is shrinking nicely.

But that red hue that still exists in all those rural areas of all the states need to be attended to by our Party. There are a lot of progressives out there who have forgotten that they are. We need to jog their memories by providing the agenda we promised.

OMG...IT'S DONE. OUR COUNTRY IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AGAIN. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

People are actually shooting off firecrackers in my neighborhood....my Republican neighborhood. Unbelievable.

Yeah... what happened to that Bradley effect???

McCain/Palin hit 50% in daily tracking poll - Obama Bin Biden at 47%.
Subtract 5% from Obama Bin Biden and add it to McCain/Palin for the Bradley effect and it is McCain/Palin 55% and Obama Bin Biden 42%.
And it will get worse for Obama Bin Biden.

Lesson learned. Praise to the Lord that loves us all.

530
YayObama on November 5, 2008 at 05:55 AM

good morning, everyone.
Set the Blessing in Motion

Today's Scripture

“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back” (Luke 6:38).

Today's Word from Joel and Victoria

God is a god of abundance! He wants to pour out His abundance on you until you are so full that you are running over with His goodness. And notice how this verse starts. It says, “Give, and it will be given to you.” Your giving sets the blessing of God into motion in your life. Giving is like a seed. When you plant an apple seed, it doesn’t just grow a single fruit. That one seed grows into a tree that produces an abundance of apples!

That’s what happens when you obey God in your giving. You receive an abundant harvest in return. It’s overflowing, literally “running over”! And when the blessing is running over, it means you have so much that you want to give more. The cycle just keeps repeating itself! Is there something the Lord is telling you to give today? It could be financial, material, or even your talents and service to others.

What do you have in your hand that you can use to bless someone else? Take a step today and set the blessing of God into motion in your life. Open the door for His blessing to be running over in every area of your life today!

Back to the big city for me. By looking at our map, not all counties have completed their counts.

Enjoy the day, everyone.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that Obama will be one of our greatest presidents, he only won by 53% popular vote. That shows me that the country is largely still and/or racist, fearful of “socialism”, unbelievable greedy. I pray that this changes eventually.
There isn’t just one truth, there’s the truth that we know, and the “truth” that Limbaugh & company espouses. And the latter is taken by gospel by a larger percentage of the country than I would have liked to think.

God help us.

I do hope, however, that Jesse Jackson isn't able to wiggle his way into an opportunity at the WH. He is a divisive figure, and last night put us so far past such divisions. Also, the comments he made during hte campaign...first chastizing Obama for ''talking down'' to black folks by demanding accountability...and then getting caught on tape saying that he would ''cut his nuts off.'' Let him watch THIS history from the sidelines and let the next generation move the country forward. Black people were smarter that Jackson gave them credit for.

547

Hayduke...I particularly liked this part...

We really don't have much time. There is big work to do. But this is the week for all of us to revel in this great moment. Be humble about it. Do not treat the Republicans in your life the way they have treated you the past eight years. Show them the grace and goodness that Barack Obama exuded throughout the campaign. Though called every name in the book, he refused to lower himself to the gutter and sling the mud back. Can we follow his example? I know, it will be hard.

a post from an email from a Friend!

Colorado amendment defining a fetus as a person FAILED South Dakota amendment banning abortion FAILED Chris Shays, the last Republican congressman in New England, FAILED

This is a rejection of an ideology.

Read it and weep, Repugs!

I watched an analyst early this morning say that the Repugs in revamping their party now, will look at the fact that Sarah Palin tore the party apart, not drew it together. That they must now re-look at Environment (no more drill, baby drill, no more ignoring global warming), they must re-look at how far right their Social ideals have become! How entrenched religion has become in their party!!!
I thought of a certain lonely, pissed off troll in MN and LMAO! Palin will be tossed out like yesterday's garbage, wrapped in the newspapers touting her loss!

Good morning, all.

I'm sad that Missouri didn't deliver.

I should have known when I was canvassing two weeks before the election. The Undecided quit calling themselves Independents. They started saying they preferred not to say how they were going to vote.

What they were really saying was that they didn't want to vote for McCain but they couldn't vote for Obama because of his race. I live in a border state. The prejudices are deadly rooted. Some of the older people never went to a integrated school or worked side-by-side with minorities. They were not blessed by the Lord in this way.

These people were scared out of their wits and Palin fanned the flames. This is her legacy and I hope she's proud of it. It's funny how she fully embraced all the advantages that affirmative action had brought to her as a woman, but she thought nothing of denying those basic human rights to others. Not once did she see the hypocrisy or the cruelty.

This will be a lesson to me. You don't waste your time trying to reach those who as so rigid. You feel sorry for them and work to win over their children...which is really what I have been doing most of my adult life.

I'm so proud of those kids in Iraq and Afghanistan who I helped teach in Scouting how to care for the flag. I'm proud of those kids who I helped through tutoring in school who volunteered for Obama. They are our future.

And they now have a president who cares for them in the same way.

Next time we'll make Missouri a blue state for Obama. Losing by such a small number of votes will make the challenge even more irresistible to his volunteers here. We will overcome the prejudices and seek out other people of good will.

Just you wait.

Pinch Me ...a message from Michael Moore

Friends,

Who among us is not at a loss for words? Tears pour out. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. A stunning, whopping landslide of hope in a time of deep despair.

In a nation that was founded on genocide and then built on the backs of slaves, it was an unexpected moment, shocking in its simplicity: Barack Obama, a good man, a black man, said he would bring change to Washington, and the majority of the country liked that idea. The racists were present throughout the campaign and in the voting booth. But they are no longer the majority, and we will see their flame of hate fizzle out in our lifetime.

There was another important "first" last night. Never before in our history has an avowed anti-war candidate been elected president during a time of war. I hope President-elect Obama remembers that as he considers expanding the war in Afghanistan. The faith we now have will be lost if he forgets the main issue on which he beat his fellow Dems in the primaries and then a great war hero in the general election: The people of America are tired of war. Sick and tired. And their voice was loud and clear yesterday.

It's been an inexcusable 44 years since a Democrat running for president has received even just 51% of the vote. That's because most Americans haven't really liked the Democrats. They see them as rarely having the guts to get the job done or stand up for the working people they say they support. Well, here's their chance. It has been handed to them, via the voting public, in the form of a man who is not a party hack, not a set-for-life Beltway bureaucrat. Will he now become one of them, or will he force them to be more like him? We pray for the latter.

But today we celebrate this triumph of decency over personal attack, of peace over war, of intelligence over a belief that Adam and Eve rode around on dinosaurs just 6,000 years ago. What will it be like to have a smart president? Science, banished for eight years, will return. Imagine supporting our country's greatest minds as they seek to cure illness, discover new forms of energy, and work to save the planet. I know, pinch me.

We may, just possibly, also see a time of refreshing openness, enlightenment and creativity. The arts and the artists will not be seen as the enemy. Perhaps art will be explored in order to discover the greater truths. When FDR was ushered in with his landslide in 1932, what followed was Frank Capra and Preston Sturgis, Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck, Dorothea Lange and Orson Welles. All week long I have been inundated with media asking me, "gee, Mike, what will you do now that Bush is gone?" Are they kidding? What will it be like to work and create in an environment that nurtures and supports film and the arts, science and invention, and the freedom to be whatever you want to be? Watch a thousand flowers bloom! We've entered a new era, and if I could sum up our collective first thought of this new era, it is this: Anything Is Possible.

An African American has been elected President of the United States! Anything is possible! We can wrestle our economy out of the hands of the reckless rich and return it to the people. Anything is possible! Every citizen can be guaranteed health care. Anything is possible! We can stop melting the polar ice caps. Anything is possible! Those who have committed war crimes will be brought to justice. Anything is possible.

I want to thank everyone who gave of their time and resources to make this victory happen. It's been a long road, and huge damage has been done to this great country, not to mention to many of you who have lost your jobs, gone bankrupt from medical bills, or suffered through a loved one being shipped off to Iraq. We will now work to repair this damage, and it won't be easy.

But what a way to start! Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States. Wow. Seriously, wow.

Yours,
Michael Moore

WOW! Kudos to our young Americans, they did themsleves proud and the rest of us owe them a debt of gratitude for helping to bring our Country back. Now we can all be prouder to call ourselves American and the rest of the world will join us in celebration of the people we've become and the sample we have set.

We are the first industrialied western nation to elect a minority as our Head of State. That says a lot about those of us who supported his candidacy and voted for him.

The evangelical Christians who supported Sarah Palin's campaign should see themselves at a crossroads. They cheered her as she mocked the experiences of our President Elect, they shouted hate-filled jargon as she portrayed our President Elect as a friend to terrorists and she joined her campaign partner in a series of lies to distort our President Elect's platform for change. They stand to lose a large segment of their followers if they continue on this path of divisiveness and character assassination; and they've already given fair minded people reason to challenge their ethical and moral principles.

Try as one might, I didn't hear God talking through Sarah Palin!

GregL, a state constitutional provision can be unconstitutional under the federal constitution. People coming into the polls yesterday were asking me, "Where is the question on Gay Marriage, which is how the Wacky Doodle Religious nut cases were trying to frame it to incite the public to vote YES.

Well, it failed, 60-40%, which made me Proud of the CT people and their tolerance! What business is it of anyones, whether 2 people marry or not?

Bush's Last 100 Days the Ones to Watch

Jesse Jackson in Chicago, after learning Obama won last night

by Jesse Jackson

The air crackles with anticipation. Fingers are crossed. It gets hard to breathe. Hope, for so long locked in a closet, begins pounding on the door.

And throwing caution to the wind, many already are talking about Barack Obama's first 100 days. Will he move directly to the Apollo investment agenda, providing money to refit buildings, implement the use of renewable energy and generate jobs in the drive to reduce our dependence on foreign oil? Will he put forth a comprehensive health-care plan or begin by covering all children? Will workers finally be given the right to organize once more? How will he handle mortgage relief and/or help cities burdened by poverty?

But even as our minds, against all discipline, look beyond this day to the possible victory and change, we'd better start paying attention to another 100 days -- President Bush's last months in office.

Bush and Vice President Cheney represent a failed conservative era -- and they know it. As the administration moves into its last 100 days, there seems to be a flurry of activity: regulations to forestall Obama's new era of accountability; a flood of contracts to reward friends and lock in commitments; a Wall Street bailout that is pumping money out the door.

Consider: Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is handing out $350 billion to the banks, drawing a special circle around nine banks -- including Goldman Sachs, the firm he previously headed -- as clearly too big to fail. The money apparently has no conditions, even though the entire purpose was to get the banks to start lending once more to one another and to companies and individuals.

Now it appears that banks plan to hoard the cash, to use it to help pay for mergers with other healthy banks (not weak ones), or to pay out dividends and bonuses. And Paulson, instead of publicly rebuking them, has let it be known that mergers would be a good thing.

Instead of getting the banking system working for small businesses and people again, our money is being used to consolidate the strength of a few megabanks.

There has been a rapid increase in military outlays over the last few months. Is the Pentagon being called on to help bolster the economy -- and perhaps McCain -- in these final weeks? Or, more likely, is the Pentagon pumping out money to reward its friends and lock in spending before the new sheriff gets to town?

The Washington Post reports that the White House is "working to enact an array of federal regulations, many of which would weaken rules aimed at protecting consumers and the environment, before President Bush leaves office in January."

About 90 new rules are in the works, and at least nine are considered "economically significant" because they would impose costs or promote societal benefits that exceed $100 million annually. Many will make changes that the new administration will find it hard to reverse for years to come. More emissions from power plants; more exemptions from environmental-impact statements; permission to operate natural gas lines at higher levels of pressure -- the changes could be the last calamities visited upon us by the Bush administration.

Congress -- the old one, not the new one just elected -- comes back into special session right after the election. Representatives Henry Waxman and John Conyers would be well advised to convene special hearings to try to curb what Bush has cooked up for his last 100 days. Let's not let the new dawn that is possible be dimmed by clouds left over from an old era that has failed

Christopher_blunt_proud_member_of_the_VLWC on November 5, 2008 at 10:09 AM

I respected his concession speech because he took responsibility and admitted it was his "failure".

He used the word "failure" for a reason.

There were big-mouth republicans who started to "boo" but he did what he had to "shut them up".

If McCain ran a respectable campaign in the first place he wouldn't be so hated.

But his concession speech's acknowledgement that the campaign's "failure" was for McCain to take responsibility was important.

I don't believe McCain will be bi-partisan with Obama.

I believe that there are other wacko republican partisans we need to worry about.

I am so grateful that our country will be ours again. I am grateful that our Constiturion will once again be held in high regard.

Last night I stood in the midst of the crowd in Grant Park, and I wondered at the diversity. I saw the joy, up close and personal on the faces of the people there. The guys behind me cried. The people in front of me laughed and cheered. The people next to us kept their cameras held high, surveying the crowd. There were more young people there than you can imagine. I felt such a hope for our country.

Hi, fade.

The Obama people made a critical mistake not moving resources from St. Louis County to St. Charles County in Missouri. We had the votes there but not the numbers of volunteers needed.
I should have followed my own political instincts and went out there.

The demographics are changing. There are Democratic votes in places there weren't before. The Baby Boomers and their Boomlet kids are coming together as a voting block. We need to tap into it in all 50 states.

As the Boomers retire and move to warmer Southern states with a lower standard of living, they will have the time to devote to the progressive causes of their youth. They will be met by voters molded by a generation of integration who are just beginning to mature.

The Generation X and Y have something to prove. The torch has been passed.

I'm sad to say many older voters just can't let go of their prejudices. Obama will have to prove himself in the next two years. But then he's had to do that his whole life...having to straddle two different worlds neither of which he ever fit into comfortably.

That is my hope...that he will craft a new place in America where everybody can fit in. It's that good old Yankee ingenuity. If you can join them, offer them something better so they join you.

St. Charles County, MO. Please come help us next election for a least one canvass. We have to get rid of Republican Kit Bond. I know you would enjoy being part of that victory party.

Good to see you again. I'm bond and determined to keep this thing going...and so were all the other wonderful people I met during this campaign who joined me pounding the pavement. This is just the beginning for all of us.

Gotta run. later.

Yesterday and last night was a testiment to democracy. A vote was cast for an America that is by the people, of the people and for the people.

That is the America that we have spent the last 8 years searching for and fighting for. An America that we can all be proud of. An America that is that beacon to the rest of the world. An America that is inclusive, that set's the vision and bar for other countries to emulate and achieve.

A door has been opened for us and today is the first day of a new America.

Thank you to the DNC and the Kickin' Ass blog. Thank you for making today possible and for most of us here, an opportunity to be part of the change. I came here in the dark hours of 2004 and found support and strength from others who weren't prepared to give up. WE didn't.

Barack's speech last night only under scored what many of us believed from the early days of his campaign. Why many of us here, along with the millions of others did what we could, to make it happen.

Change we can believe in. We did and "Yes we can!"

Obama won almost 7 million votes more than McCain.

Howard Dean will be on MSNBC.

"Four long years - I have been on this blog. Four long years I have put up with the trolls. Four long years of hating what Bush has done tot his country. NO MORE! ENOUGH!"

Four years ago, I was a bit of a regular here (*waves back at Doo-bee-doo*), and while I still peeked in a lot, the trolls' moronic messages of hate and lies kept me from posting. It just wasn't worth it.

Last night, I watched people celebrating in Grant Park - a place where I have left many footprints in the past, which made me feel I was a little bit there too. (Which was kinda cool.)

Today, a different Europe looks at a different America - one we can start to respect again.

Happy Obamaday everybody!

PS. Obama '12! ;-)

Hey, YayObama and CalDem!
Great to hear some input from the sunshine state, just love those electric cars and solar electric plug in ports out there, cool! We've just begun a new way of being. Gatekeepers, get out of the way!

We need solar heat for our homes back here to cut our bills in half and the pollution. Winter is coming. Let's get the homeless families back inside so they do not freeze to death too.

Congrats to Zack Space and Dennis Kucinich up north and all good Dem winners in Ohio!

Gotta get some rest, bye for now! :)

Good job! Way to go! You are truly a hero and thank you for your efforts in caring for people with struggling issues, in which is hard to attain. You are truly a person who has inspired me and I'm glad to have witnessed this Historical
moment in my lifetime. Thank you for your efforts. I truly hope the people of all cultures to unite one day because of you and the "Dr". I knew you could do it! I've beleived in ya the whole way and since you've gained Presidency, I see the tension loosening up on socializm with mixed races. Not bad at all. Thanks again for hope.
