WASHINGTON - Asserting the global financial crisis is "not a failure of the free market," President George W. Bush on Thursday called on the world leaders meeting this weekend to agree on a modest set of reforms aimed at preventing future collapses.
Bush's main message to the leaders about to converge on Washington: Reforms won't help if they overreach by abandoning the free market and restricting trade.
"Government intervention is not a cure-all," Bush was to say in a speech here, according to prepared remarks released in advance by the White House..."
....and now watch this shot.....and now watch me fade into the most complete obscurity ever contemplated by human kind....
Re-registering our thoughts, Sarah Palin looms on the herizon. She will threaten our base if the nomination, threaten to take women back 100 years for her male handlers, and the GOP primary race kicks off in 2 years. We must continue working!
It looks like Sarah Palin will be snowed-in in Alaska politics for a while, providing felon Steevens goes on to lose his seat. We need to contact our congress men and women to tell them it's time to take the great welfare state of Alaska off the federal dole. Stevens has taken $3.4 BILLION of our federal tax dollars to Alaska since 1999, and Alaskans don't seem to have to work too hard for their take, which includes money siphoned from the oil industry.
Good-bye Stevens, stay home Palin and kiss those precious earmarks good-bye.
The republicans and Catholic leadership should both take stock of their campaign rhetoric and tactics, they're both losing constituents at an alarming rate and they only have themselves to blame. A few days ago it was Catholic Bishops attacking Obama over abortion rights; so much for reconciliation! The conservatives who controlled our country did nothing to curb the need for aborltions; no sex education initiatives, no adoption outreach, no programs for pregnant teens, no medical care programs, etc. NO NOTHING.
President Obama will do more to reduce unwanted pregnancies and support those women who choose birth over abortion than any republican president in the last century. What have the Catholic Bishops done to reduce the demand for abortions, NOTHING!
How many women who identify themselves as Catholic have abortions, and isn't the parish priest more to blame than the person occupying the White House? They should clean their own house before looking to the federal government for laws that would imprison the abortion doctor or patient for crimes they hope to create.
PRIEST SINGLES OUT WOMAN DURING MASS FOR PARKING HER CAR IN THE PARISH LOT, ADORNED WITH PRO-OBAMA STICKERS:
REV SEBASTIAN MEYER OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH IN FAIRFIELD, CA said "We can not have a car with Obama signs written on it on these premises. And I don't care who Obama is. I want this car off the premises in 10 minutes or it will be towed. Whoever's vehicle this is, I want it removed. I don't want to see that vehicle around here."
Per the Bay Area News Group' reporter, during the unsuccessful attempt to interview Rev Meyer, he refused answers and lunged at the reporter, trying to take his notebook away. The "priest" even followed the woman and her 10 years old son out to the parking lot to prevent her from moving her car elsewhere in the parish lot.
Good afternoon fellow Democrats.

These churches are running a great risk of losing their tax exempt status with these types of tactics. I think they're forgetting that on 20JAN09 we take over. And we Democrats believe in the seperation of church and state unlike a significant portion of our Republican counterparts.
CBS News’ Election and Survey Unit’s survey analyst extraordinaire Jennifer De Pinto goes inside the exit polls from last week’s election and finds some interesting nuggets about those Hillary Clinton supporters who voted for John McCain:As voters left the polls on Election Day, many were asked how they would have voted if the election match-up were between Hillary Clinton and John McCain rather than Barack Obama and McCain. 52 percent said they would have backed the former Democratic candidate; 41 percent would have voted for McCain, wider than Obama’s 7-point margin over McCain.
Interestingly, 16 percent of McCain voters said they would have voted for Clinton, the Democrat, if she had been her party’s nominee...

We've come a long way but, we still have a way to go. It is astounding that almost 20% of the electorate would vote merely on race.

You may want to double check your source on this one as I - while not a member of the Catholic church - attend services there once in a while. I have never heard a Catholic Priest called Rev. or Reverend. It's always Father or Bishop. The use of the terms "Rev." and "Reverend" makes this report questionable in my mind. Secondly, we have a local bank that pays people to drive around with their signs on cars for advertising - sort of a moving billboard. A church that I visit sometimes is positioned on a very busy street. This person, had the bright idea to park the 'moving billboard' in the parking lot of the church so as to be visible from the busy street. They were asked, very politely, to move and refrain from doing so in the future. The minister explained that it had nothing to do with approving or disapproving of the bank, it had to do with 'advertising' on not for profit property.
In case you missed Governor Dean on Morning Joe yesterday, here is the video. It was great panel discussion, about 12 minutes long. I don't watch that show much, but I must say they were actually courteous.
Also on C-Span today there was an excellent post election panel from the Smithsonsian Institute I think it said. About an hour and 45 minutes. Dean was on there also, and absolutely rocking the audience...which I hear sold out quickly. Should replay on C-Span.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Postal Service ended its fiscal year $2.8 billion in the red, battered by a faltering economy that cut the amount of mail being sent. Postmaster General John Potter said the agency is making sharp cuts in hours and overtime but added there are no plans for layoffs. The mail being sent dropped by 9.5 billion items."We expect the new fiscal year to be another difficult one," Potter said, adding: "We're not panicking here."
The cost of sending packages will go up in January, and the annual increase in the cost of letter mail is still scheduled for May.
By cutting back on spending the post office had a net operating income of $2.7 billion in 2008, but still ended up in the red because of the requirement for a $5.6 billion payment to a health benefit fund for retirees.
Even so, the $2.8 billion loss was well short of last year's $5.1 billion postal deficit...
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D94E7IMG0&show_article=1
Neither rain, nor sleet, nor dark of night, eh? But all that red ink is another story. 40K layoffs are scheduled and that is the first time in Post Office history that the Post Office has laid off people. 2009 is going to be a very long year.
Hi Bob - yes 2009 is going to be a very long year but I have hope. For the first time in a long time - I actually have hope. President Obama, VP Biden and the Democratic Congress are already making in-roads. I firmly believe that they will have legislation ready to go on Jan. 21, 2009. Things may get a little worse before they get better but we will get our NEW DEAL.
The current administration's very well paid lap-dog is abut to get bitten in the butt! Finally!
Blackwater Likely to Be Fined Millions in Iraq Weapons Case
Wednesday 12 November 2008
by: Warren Strobel, McClatchy Newspapers
Washington - The State Department is preparing to slap a multi-million dollar fine on private military contractor Blackwater USA for shipping hundreds of automatic weapons to Iraq without the necessary permits.
Some of the weapons are believed to have ended up on the country's black market, department officials told McClatchy, but no criminal charges have been filed in the case.
The expected fine is the result of a long-running federal investigation into whether employees of the firm shipped weapons hidden in shrink-wrapped pallets from its Moyock, N.C. headquarters to Iraq, where Blackwater is the State Department's largest personal security contractor.
Could? It's not a matter of could - it's a matter of when he will because when has he ever not dodged responsibility for his actions by invoking executive priviledge?
Bush, Out of Office, Could Oppose Inquiries
Wednesday 12 November 2008
»
by: Charlie Savage, The New York Times
Washington - When a Congressional committee subpoenaed Harry S. Truman in 1953, nearly a year after he left office, he made a startling claim: Even though he was no longer president, the Constitution still empowered him to block subpoenas.
"If the doctrine of separation of powers and the independence of the presidency is to have any validity at all, it must be equally applicable to a president after his term of office has expired," Truman wrote to the committee.
Congress backed down, establishing a precedent suggesting that former presidents wield lingering powers to keep matters from their administration secret. Now, as Congressional Democrats prepare to move forward with investigations of the Bush administration, they wonder whether that claim may be invoked again.
"The Bush administration overstepped in its exertion of executive privilege, and may very well try to continue to shield information from the American people after it leaves office," said Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, who sits on two committees, Judiciary and Intelligence, that are examining aspects of Mr. Bush's policies.

About that tax exempt thing: As long as they do not publicly endorse a political candidate or discourage their members from supporting a political candidate, their status is ok. They can publicly support or oppose any issue and not be in violation of that status.
Marymac
Here is a link to the church in quaestion. The pastor is listed as Rev. Sebastian Meyer.http://www.olmc-fairfield.org/
It has been a long time since I was a practicing Catholic but I believe Rev. is used in formal writing and the priest is called Father in person. It maybe that they used the formal "Rev." in the article because he is the pastor. I don't know for sure, but since their website names this person as pastor, I assume the article is true.

I don't know why the link didn't work. Trying again. BTW responding to marymac's 3:48
Good afternoon, all.
Drug costs for seniors growing
By Julie Appleby, USA TODAY
Elderly and disabled people in Medicare prescription drug plans with the largest enrollments will pay 43% more on average in monthly premiums next year than when the drug program began in 2006, and some enrollees will see increases of as much as 329%, two analyses show.
The rising costs "are wreaking havoc on seniors' wallets and are simply not sustainable in the long run," says Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
Overall, the Medicare drug program is costing taxpayers less than originally estimated. The government's drug spending on the program fell by 12% to $44 billion in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, largely from the widespread use of low-cost generic drugs. The government pays part of the drugs' costs for seniors and helps subsidize premiums for low-income people.
Still, seniors have seen their actual expenses for premiums and drug co-payments go up each year. Insurers have raised prices for many reasons, including increases to cover higher drug costs and more prescriptions filled.
Monthly premiums in the drug-only plans will go from an average $26.03 in 2006 to $37.10 next year, according to Avalere Health, a private consulting company. People who signed up for a policy marketed as the low-price leader in 2006 — Humana's standard plan — will pay $40.83 next year, up from $9.51 in 2006, according to Avalere's analysis and a similar one from the Kaiser Family Foundation, a non-partisan research group.
Humana raised premiums to reflect its actual costs, according to its government filings. Spokesman Tom Noland says its prices remain competitive with other insurers.
The amounts Medicare beneficiaries pay at pharmacy counters as their share of drug costs, particularly for brand-name products, jumped in many plans as well — from $1 a month per prescription to more than $13 per drug, Avalere reported.
Enrollment for the drug program next year will begin Saturday. About 17 million people are enrolled in drug-only plans and an additional 9 million are in plans that cover both drugs and medical care...

These are the sort of safety nets that Republicans devise...full of holes and BS. All the increasing costs are heaped onto the sick with the suppliers piling it on without any oversight of their excuses.

Can "we" infiltrate Idaho next? With the kiddies here chanting "Assassinate Obama" and their parents flying their flags upside down, we could use a bit of liberal integration.
Sheesh, no wonder the rest of the U.S. thinks that we're all white sheet wearing kooks who sleep with our shotguns...
Big_Yellow_Dog on November 13, 2008 at 05:00 PM
Yet Republicans and their pundits have no problem with long lines lasting up to 8 hours, voting machines that dropped 30,000 votes in Flordia in 2004, or mass purges of the voting rolls for no other reason than some peoples' names happen to be similar than those that have been challenged.
Guilty until proven Republican?
from a piece by frank schaeffer at the huffiington post:
"...The Republican Party--and I speak as a former lifelong Republican who, up through the 2000 primary campaign supported John McCain and even worked for him by arguing his case on various conservative and religious radio stations--is now the toy of the Rush Limbaugh windbags. These folks include outright crazies (such as Sarah Palin's Assemblies of God pals who are waiting for Spaceship Jesus to rescue them and/or rooting out "witches" from their midst), white racists and a few not-very-bright attention seekers, including Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity etc..."
There seems to be four distinct periods at the turn of this century.
1. bush and the republican congress in charge
2. bush and the Democratic Party Congress in the majority.
3. bush and the Democratic Party Congress in the majority with President-Elect Barack Obama.
and the future.....
4. President Barack Hussein Obama and the Democratic Party Congress in the majority.

Great Video.
Dr. Howard Dean is a straight talker that you can trust.
He doesn't mince his words and he is conditioned to be absolutely on the side of truth.
Blue, Hi - I hope that you and all of Idaho (even the red parts) are doing well. I asked this question yesterday - can Wm. Ayers sue Palin and the RNC for defamation (?Spelling) and slander? If not, why not? I still burn up everytime I think about her "pallin' around with" crack.
This blog sucks, i had to sign in 9 times.
Dean needs to fair the techs, and get some competent people, to run this blog.
BYD! Hi! I have no idea what part of the country you live in but I must tell you racism is alive and well - unfortunately! Here in Tennessee and in most of this area, the phrase "I vote family values" translates to "I vote racist." I can't tell you how many people told me that "Obama's family values are not mine!" and we have churchs (more than 2) that have up signs "Are you an outcast in Obama land?" It's looney tunes! I don't know if Blue deals with the same thing that I deal with but it's bad here.
Hey Mary-Mac, I'm good, how about you?
I hope you have stayed away from the market this week, its to vulnerable to play, I've had as much as a 25,000 dollar swing this week, from up to down and i don't consider myself a big player by any means.
My advice to anybody that's even considering playing the market is, if your going to need the money anytime in the next 3 years stay away from it. Its, just to dangerous at this point.
Its just like playing poker, if you can't afford to lose your investment don't play.
Chassie: I have not. I bought something - I won't say what - but I bought it for $3.08 per share. I put about $1,000 in it but that is all that I did. I left everything else in Gold. Like you said - too volatile.
I hope all is going well for you this week. And yes, I too agree that the blog is getting worse instead of better. At least, we are getting new threads. Last week, I think we had 2 open threads all week.
marymac_memphis on November 13, 2008 at 05:47 PM
Would the suit be based on her comments that Ayers was a "domestic terrorist"? I guess Bible Spice and the RNC could claim that it was a matter of opinion; he did participate in bombings. No, I doubt that there is cause for a lawsuit based solely on the vile throwup that Moose barbie spewed.
Thanks Blue. Just wondering. She makes my blood boil and I would love to see her 'shut down' from a political stand point. I just wish she'd go home and stay home. If they love her in Alaska, I wish she'd just stay there!
5 rjsnj on November 13, 2008 at 01:57 PM
I agree. I'm going to stay alert to what's going on. But I'm not going to say to much until after the 2010 election. It's too early to speculate. And palin should try and stay out of the news because her campaign with McCain was incompetently run and her political skills are amatuerish at best. I don't know what she's thinking but I am one to believe that she overestimates the lower 48.
I don't know what she's thinking but I am one to believe that she overestimates the lower 48.

The focus for America is clear.
The next two years is the time period. And how fast can the Obama Administration stabilize the American economy.
America cannot address the international mess that bush created without a stable economic infrastructure.
Mary-Mac don't let Palin get your blood boiling she is not worth it, she is going no where fast, as much as Sally would like her to lead the Pugs!
She is washed up, as far as the National Scene goes. She is a loser, the Pug Party even knows it.
P.S. I thought i was done with this election cycle, but now i have to go out and get rid of Chambliss, more work to do. Damn I'm tired of this, but even old people like me have to keep working, for the country as a whole
Hi Benji! I agree, she absolutely underestimates the lower 48 and she underestimates the anger her 'spew' has stired up in Democrats. For me, she is on par with KKKarl Rove - she is pond scum, slime and will never be anything but a lying POS.
I really believe that the Obama Administration will make an immediate impact on the economy.
I never believed that McCain would have been able to properly address the economic issues we faced.
And I believe that the economy is failing directly because of the bush Administration.

46marymac_memphis on November 13, 2008 at 06:46 PM
I agree with Chassie, palin is digging herself a political grave.
She should shut up because it will take more than four years before a very strong demographic of experienced American voters (some of whom are only first time voters) who will not forget the kind of campaign she ran since the 08 republican convention.
A lot has happened since then and four years is a long time.
I remember when I made calls for Obama, it was during the time palin was first nominated.
At the time there was a wave of support for her among the base, but that was not only short-lived and it created a false sense of accomplishment and political security.
palin doesn't have a reputation for understanding the center and she certainly is clueless when it comes to the left. palin can be the "Big Woman on Campus" when it comes to Alaska, but the fact remains, Alaska voters are in the middle of a recount that will determine the possible re-election of a convicted felon. That doesn't say much for the Alaskan voter and the Alaskan voter doesn't represent the mainstream of the lower 48.

Thanks Mary=Mac belief me we could use all of the help that this nation could muster up right now.
Benji I appreciate the flowers, and you can take it to the bank that i will do all that i can.
Take this to the bank its the country side that needs work here in S. Georgia, well let me rephrase that its all of the country side rednecks here in Georgia that needs worked on.
The focus is the lame duck transition to the future.
bush is out and leaving a legacy that 70% of American disaprove of and a legacy that could prove to be the most besmirched in American history.
Benji your giving the chimp to much credit, 76 percent of Americans disapprove of this drunken idiot. I really don't know for sure but i thing that the world as a whole disapprove of him like 92 percent.
Regarding partisan politics:
I believe that the republicans and the conservative movement of the 70's is obsolete.
As long as the republican base clings to the nostalgia of the Reagan years the longer it will take for the republicans to rebuild their party.
.....................
In the meantime, the Democratic Party is strengthening and building for the future.
......................
I believe the future is bleak for the republicans as long as the extreme right continues to control the base.
...................
And I do believe that the extreme left played a pivotal and monumental role in the Democratic Parties success in the last two elections. This is because the extreme left is much more tolerant of the opposing views from moderates and independents than the extreme right.
55chassie on November 13, 2008 at 07:11 PM
HAHA,
I haven't been keeping up with the actual percentage.
76% is horrible.
i just caught the presidummie on the news. he was talking about the economy and he was addressing the idea that more regulation is needed in the banking industry. he said something to the effect that there may not really be a need for more regulation because europe had more regulation than the united states and they are in economic trouble as well. he neglected to mention that a large portion of their economic problems were caused by investing in usa triple a securities that were made up of sub prime mortgages....he was once again lying through his teeth and smirking as if he hadn't caused tens of thousands of deaths, set back environmental causes years and destroyed our economy. god i can't wait for this asshole to leave the national and international stages.
Does anybody know what Dick and he is Cheney's approval rating is? Its got to be close to zero!!
I hope that both of these tyrannical, f@@king assholes, gets whats coming to them.
What I believe is that the DNC has overnight become an international political powerhouse.
After blogging here off and on for two years after the Kerry lose, there was so much anger and passion to get rid of bush.
But now that Obama has been elected, the anger has been replaced with joy.....
.....and the passion to get rid of bush has been replaced a passion for getting America back on track.
..............
I am extremely optimistic about the future.
60 gregg on November 13, 2008 at 07:16 PM
Talk about anger and passion....
I feel your intensity.
But in 69 days and counting bush will be gone.
I hope you have a nice bottle of champaigne for just such the occasion.
Well, well, well.
It looks as if the trolls are back trying to convince the other bloggers here that their opinions have any credibility whatsoever.
I'm just back from $10 off day at Shop N Save....talk about an economic meltdown.
There were people winding up and down the grocery aisles waiting for the checkouts. Consumers are looking to save every buck they can in this economy. I just saw some of the neo-affluent parents from my kids' CYC soccer teams who I haven't seen in years.
No more gourmet grocery chains for them. The upper middle class is trickling down. Well, we're all equal when we wait in line, right? Welcome to the reality-based world, disillusioned Republicans.
All those Reagan Republicans now realize who's going to pay off the $5 trillion national debt that their Republican leadership ran up. Them...unless Barack Obama doesn't go after the top 2%, multinationals, and oil cartel.
That cruel realization will last until these traditional Republicans retire and then probably a lot longer. Betrayal. They were conned and cheated of all their hard won gains...by the very Party they helped build.
They will join us Democrats if we act boldly and decisively. If we lead, they will follow.
Before the midterm election there was only one troll, Sally.
06 produced a Democratic Congressional takeover.
Before the presidential election there was two, maybe three or four.
08 produced even more Congressional seats and a Presidential mandate.
......................
Keep it up and there will be a filibuster proof majority for the Democrats after 2010.
republicans and the right-wing have a problem with learning from their mistakes.
Will Obama do what the 22% dopey liberals want and leave after one term, or go right and have a chance to win in 2012?

The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.
"Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president," Newman wrote, referring to Obama by his full name, including his middle name of Hussein.
-----"Father Newman is off base," said Steve Krueger, national director of Catholic Democrats. "He is acting beyond the authority of a parish priest to say what he did. ... Unfortunately, he is doing so in a manner that will be of great cost to those parishioners who did vote for Sens. Obama and Biden. There will be a spiritual cost to them for his words."----

If we only have 22 percent as you say, how did we win by 6 percent, dumb ass?
Next election we will win by 9 to 12 percent after Americans see what a determined good President can do. And all of the good stuff that happens, and God knows he has got his work cut out for him, and so does 76 percent of Americans. Of course that leaves you and Sally out of this equation.

Oh, great! Just another group of criminals and mental cases who the Republicans think should be able to own guns! Not bad enough they beat the shit out of their wives, but now they can have guns to shoot them with should they try and take the kids and leave!
Domestic Violence Abusers Could Get Gun Rights
New Subject, what do you all think about bailing out the big three?
OK, I'll start if we don't bail out the big three, it will be like dropping a nuclear bomb on the economy. It will also be like dropping a nuclear bomb, on whats left of your 401K's and Ira's. But in all honesty i think they are basically already gone.
YUP, the Republican Party is on it's last legs! Has absolutely nothing to do with the Economy----they are just plain Criminal, Corrupt, or Sexually Perverted! Americans are sick to death of them. Gonna be worse in 2010?????
MIAMI, Nov. 12 -- Republican governors were the brightest spot in an otherwise dispiriting election last week for the GOP, but the chief executives gathered here Wednesday provided a gloomy assessment of their party's failures and a dark forecast for the future.
The Republican Party is ill situated to serve a changing America, they said. Members make excuses for corruption. The Bush administration and congressional leaders are fiscally irresponsible and have ceded the tax issue -- of all issues -- to the Democrats. Large swaths of the country are off limits to GOP candidates. Republicans have lost the technology advantage, and if they were part of a corporation, "heads would roll." Ahhh, save that Bullshit for someone who has not watched you come in after the 2006 elections, so filled with jealousy, anger, frustration sour grapes you could barely type! You, MN THOMASS, as a prime example of WHY THIS REPUBLICAN PARTY IS ON IT'S WAY OUT! You and your sisters here , are a dying breed and you know it, and it kills you. So don't try that shit here.
And as to WHY we are here, most of us came here back in 2003 when it opened. We came when our party was down. When our Country was heading down. We Did Believe. We Believed that by uniting, we Democrats could do exactly what we just did in 2006 and now again in 2008, and we will do again in 2008! You see, Right always triumps over evil, and that is what happened. You saw the people here and what they have done. Every one of these bloggers got out and worked! Something you Republicans were too lazy to do! You thought you were better served just poking at us, but all that did was make us more determined to oust you and your dirty Party!
AND WE DID IT! WE TOOK OVER IN 2006, AND AGAIN IN 2008! WE WILL GET THE REST OF OUR MAJORITY IN 2010!
So while you sat on your assembly line at TORO, in Bloomington, MN, WE exchange ideas, and phone bank, and go door to door and are members of our local Dem party , and work for candidates, etc!
So Suck it up, Missy, you better get used to Losing! You are nothing but a loser yourself. (at least that is what your fellow employees tell me!)
And Stevie, old man, When the current Republican Party finally implodes and is all voted out, well you can vote Green! Somehow that will be so fitting---YOU voting Green, when you hate the environment so much!
Republican Party ----been there , tried that, didn't work! Welcome to the Democratic Party or the Greens. Take your pick.
Night Dems. I shall blog ya tomorrow. Don't let these trolls tell you their intestines have not been tied in knots since 11:00 PM on November 4th. They are shitting you!
No, the Republican party needs to be replaced by a proper conservative party....
You mean a "proper" conservative party that welcomes only perverts, bigots, and hairbrains (from Alaska)? You already have one. It's not their fault that they can't manage money, were born thieves, and are in bed with lobbyists.
You know why Palin can't get her state's ballots counted?
She only has ten fingers and ten toes. It takes a lot of time having to put that pencil down and start all over each count. hahahahah
Alaska is pathetic Sandy, less then 300,00 voters and 9 days later and they still have not counted the votes for senator. It just must be to lopsided, and they can't figure out how they can manipulate it.

YayObama,
JaunC is also known as Dufus-Dan on this blog for obvious reasons.
He is of limited mental capacity and has illusions of grandeur.
But it is often funny to read his stupid posts and lame attempts to pretend he is not an idiot.
YayObama on November 13, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Yay,
Wow, you are up on all the latest news.
This country needs the auto industry and manufacturing in general to survive.
I hope Palin runs in 2012. I doubt she will get very far, but it will make SNL interesting again.
Clinton would make a good Sec. o/St.
Yayobama,
I don't think Dufus_Dan (aka JaunC) is crazy. He is just stupid. He tries to pretend he is smart but doesn't have the horsepower to back it up. He is aware that he is not smart. Often he tucks tail and runs when questioned. Especially if you question him on issues. He likes to launch lame personal attacks. But he is not informed on the issues and doesn't seem to be able to formulate or articulate political positions. He is a relatively typical republican dupe.
Yay,
It has been nice bloggin' with ya'. Hope to see you again sometime soon. I am off to sleep.
It's The Economy, Stupid.....
And allowing 9/11 to happen, the WMD lies, Katrina, Larry Craig, Enron, outsourcing, K Street, Walter Reed, Sarah Palin, stop loss and re-deployments, the Fourth Branch, the Plame CIA breach, two recessions followed by a Great Depression meltdown and their Socialist solution, domestic spying, dishonoring Terri Shiavo, social security "reform,” making the pie higher, adding $5 trillion to the national debt, importing cheap foreign labor, the unnecessary invasion of Iraq, the $700,000 billion bailout and now Paulson’s flip flop, voiding habeas corpus, making our forces buy their own body amour, free speech zones, the prescription drug doughnut hole, Tom Foley, Gitmo and Abu Graibe.....and on and on and on.
There has never been a quicker devaluation of one's values and principles ever in any political ideology or philosophy. Nor have there ever been so much corruption, incompetence, bigotry, perversion, grand larceny, lying, and the abuse of power in one government, kingdom, or dynasty ever in the history of the world.
The Bush administration fought hard to edge out the reign of Caligula. Congratulations to you and all the other GOP trolls for egging them on and now blaming all the aforementioned on Obama…who doesn’t take office for two more months.
That being said, I have been given the authority to officially invite you to the Obama Presidential Inauguration.
As a charter member and chief operating troll of the DNC Kicking Ass blog, you have been tapped to act as chauffer for Pam and Dawn, carry Butter’s train at her presentation before the First Couple, serve Gregg’s spaghetti sauce at the Inauguration Luncheon, read BobVa's Proclamation of fiscal responsibility and military readiness, and carry DPD's Chicago Cub's pennant throughout all the festivities.
The rest of us will be home watching you on TV...dancing in our jammies. It will be easy to tell who you are because of the Republican egg on your face. Enjoy the experience. We will be thinking of you.
* * * * * *
Seriously, sally*, you might want to think hard about that list above. Do you really want to continue to be associated with people who would do any of those things to their own country…and especially to our troops? Are you not even the least bit ashamed or dismayed about what has happened in the last eight years to this great nation?
They took us down, sally*. Don’t you want to see us do better again? You joined us a long time ago. Maybe it’s time to accept us...with all our faults but good intentions?
We would never do what they did. Scout’s honor.
this is such wonderful news. this is good news for kids and the elderly and the air and just about everyone and everything except maybe the power companies which will see their profits reduced by a fraction of a percent. this is the kind of thing we gain by electing obama and getting rid of the right wing nuts that have been running the country:
Coal power plants may have to limit emissions
Posted 10h 30m ago
By Paul Davidson, USA TODAY
About 100 proposed coal-fired power plants in the USA may be required to limit their greenhouse gas emissions after the Environmental Protection Agency was blocked Thursday from issuing a permit for a proposed Utah plant without addressing the issue of global warming.
The EPA's appeals board said the agency didn't adequately justify its decision last year not to require controls for carbon dioxide emissions when it tentatively issued a permit for Deseret Power Electric Cooperative's planned coal plant near Vernal, Utah.
The panel sent the case back to the EPA's regional office to determine whether CO{-2} constraints are required. It said it recognizes "this is an issue of national scope that has implications far beyond this" permit.
The ruling has a far-reaching impact on dozens of coal-fired power plants awaiting permits. At the very least, it will delay by several months issuance of those permits, says Justin Hutt, a Washington, D.C., lawyer who represents utilities.
And President-elect Barack Obama, who has pushed for aggressive limits on global warming, is likely to use the ruling as a springboard to mandate tougher controls on coal plants, says Sierra Club director Bruce Nilles.
Coal plants are the single biggest culprit in global warming, accounting for about a third of CO{-2} emissions, the chief greenhouse gas.
Currently, there are no federal limits on CO{-2} emissions by any industry. But last year the Supreme Court ruled that CO{-2} is a pollutant, paving the way for the EPA to set limits on greenhouse gas emissions — something the Bush administration hasn't done.
But the Sierra Club challenged the Utah permit, citing the high court's ruling and a law that says the best available technology must be used to limit any pollutant "subject to regulation." The environmental group argued that CO{-2} is regulated, noting emissions from power plants must be monitored and reported.
The EPA disagreed, saying CO{-2} is not regulated because emissions are not constrained in any way. The appeals board rejected that narrow reading, as well as the agency's claim that it has no discretion to require CO{-2} controls. But it stopped short of ordering the EPA to impose them.
In practice, however, the panel's ruling clears the way for the Obama administration to require cleaner technologies for coal plants.
For example, an Obama EPA could require utilities to build more efficient plants that emit less CO{-2} or blend in cleaner-burning biomass with coal.
"Now, on Day 1 (of an Obama administration) they can say every (plant) needs to have a CO{-2} limit," Nilles says.
Longer-term, Congress is expected to impose caps on CO{-2} emissions, requiring companies to buy allowances for each ton of carbon they emit. Companies that exceed their limits could buy allowances from those that fall below them.
the presidummie, an obstinate, stupid embarrassment right to the end...
"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - As world leaders headed to Washington for a weekend summit on the global financial crisis, the United States made a pitch for modest reforms instead of the stiffer regulation that some European countries favor.
"The crisis was not a failure of the free market system," President George W. Bush told a New York audience on Thursday ahead of a Friday night dinner and meeting on Saturday of the heads of the Group of 20 developed and emerging nations.
The greater threat to prosperity is "not too little government involvement, it is too much government involvement in the market," Bush said.
The message may ring hollow with some G20 countries that say under-regulated U.S. financial industries effectively exported to the global economy a crisis that originated in reckless U.S. mortgage lending.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said last weekend in Sao Paulo, where G20 finance ministers met, that the world economic order "collapsed like a house of cards" because of a "dogmatic faith in non-intervention in markets."
Brazil, which holds this year's G20 chairmanship, is one of the key emerging-market nations joining leaders from the old-line Group of Seven rich nations for talks that implicitly acknowledge the rapidly growing emerging powers now deserve a bigger say in how global finance operates..."

Looks like the GOP Governors not happy being thought of as Palin's lackeys. Not everyone enamored of her, it would appear. I have to chuckle at our own Governor. She is a Republican, in a state where the rest of the legislators are all Democratic! She has zero power, nothing more than a figurehead. Good to know she is kept under control! Like Palin should be. This woman is still the greatest danger to this country, more so than any terrorist. She would have us at war within 30 days of any Presidency she might have. Out of stupidity, not out of necessity.

teehee, just a little cattiness here, because it feels good.
Did you notice now that Palin does not have PAID RNC hairdressers and makeup people, her hair is stringy looking, her makeup job sloppy, and her circles and drooping cheeks just a lot more obvious? Note her picture on that previous post, and you will see it is the truth.
Now Rachel Maddow is a natural beauty. the girl next door type. She is so much better than an Ann coulter, or Michelle Malkin or any of those harsh, unwomanly Republican hate-speech ones. They hate feminists, yet try to be like men themselves.

Iraq's al-Sadr renews threats to attack US
Good morning,
Where is the wisdom of letting this lame duck and what is left of the corrupted culture in congress borrow jillions of damn dollars?
Saddle taxpayers and the the next congress and president with paralysing burdens in a huge recession, just whose plan is that?
Get the US so involved in bankrupting military adventures and bailouts of failed companies that nothing is left for social programs and infrastructure spending, and the US economy and government programs collapse.
Then the vulture privateers and sovereign wealth funds get to make the fire sale deals and extort concessions from US citizens?
No more contrived or feigned crisis and debt spending until these crooks are kicked out of office and more real oversight and planning is implemented. And that would require an honest and investigative press and more government transparency.
Are these the enemies from within and without to the US that we should have been battling all along? The people and businesses that would wreck the US for profit without a care for the people?
Sally, and any other moron out there...Walter Reed Hospital is not an Veteran's Administration hospital. It is an Army hospital. It is not FOR veterans, it is for active duty Army personnel.
This is why people think you're stupid. Because you get simple little facts like these completely wrong.
As for the REASON VA facilities have had poor service in the past, well, maybe it is because your fucking piece of shit Republicans keep TALKING about respecting our veterans instead of ACTUALLY respecting their service and PROVIDING the necessary funds to care for them.
As for government "scraping the bottom of the barrel", well then maybe it is time to institute a non-volunteer policy of government service. Sorry, you CANNOT go straight into private life after school, you have to work for the government first. And if you do a good job in civil service, it will look really good on your resume for that nice plum corporate job.
Electrovaya, Chang'an Auto to Roll Out Electric Cars
SYNOPSIS: Electrovaya is responsible for the distribution of electric cars, assembled in Canada and developed based on Changan's hot-selling Ben Ben.
SHANGHAI -- Changan Automobile Group, Ford Motor's China partner, said on Tuesday it will roll out 30 electric cars developed jointly with Electrovaya in Canada before the end of this year, potentially becoming the first Chinese auto maker to tap the North American market.

No bail out for the big 3 auto-destructors! They had their chance again and again to develop and produce efficient and alternative energy vehicles and instead helped to run the US economy off a cliff and poison the planet. These lame-brained jokers should be in prison, not in front of congress lying and begging for billions of damned dollars.
The auto giants, I suppose at the urging of Big Oil Slicks, put all their effort into fighting and lobbying for incentives for the biggest and most profitable vehicles and to shut out the sustainable and sane ones. You know the story if you've payed attention since 1973.
This is where the future of transportaion has been sidelined, but from where it will emerge: Engineering and innovation from Canada through light cars and financing through China to manufacturing in Mexico. And no jobs or nothing for US.
This is toxic lobbying and government corruption at its worst, and should not be rewarded by throwing good debt down the rat hole. Might as well just give the crisis money to these Chinese companies so that they will build some of their cars in the US and employ some people here.
Good morning, all!

A little history. Bush Daddy tried to shut down Walter Reed Army Hospital during his administration so he could sell the land to some of his contractor buddies like he did a lot of other military bases. That's prime Washington real estate, and if they let it run down to the point that they can say it costs too much to fix, Bush jr could have "accomplished the mission" and sold off the property. However they need the facility because the facilities at Bethesda and at Andrews AFB couldn't handle the load of wounded coming back from the Sandbox. That doesn't mean they weren't still trying to allow it to deteriorate so they could justify selling it.
VA employees are NOT the bottom of the barrel. I'd say that most of them are good, caring, and extremely frustrated, as they have watched the Bushiato cut back on their programs and funding, reducing their abilities to care for our veterans. Unfortunately, some of the best have quit in frustration, or seen their jobs get cut.
Let's put the blame where it belongs. On the Bushiato who sees soldiers as throw away cannon fodder, and incompetent Bush appointees at the top, who neither know how to run such facilities nor care enough about out veterans to stand up to Bushiato to ask for, much less demand, justice for veterans. That goes for the Republican legislators as well including that hypocritical asshole, McCain, who wanted everyone to kiss his butt because of his "service" but who voted AGAINST his fellow veterans every chance he got.
The slimeball troll is too demented and/or stupid to see reality, but we can counter his lies.

Obama acts to drive the lobbyists out of Washington
Strict new rules on the backroom deal-makers; President-elect hopes to succeed where others failed
By Leonard Doyle | Independent UK
The leader of Barack Obama's transition team has delivered some bad news to the hordes of lobbyists plying their trade in the fancy restaurants and faceless offices along Pennsylvania Avenue: they are not welcome.
John Podesta, the transition chief, has revealed a set of draconian new regulations aimed at curbing the excessive influence of lobbyists, as Mr Obama promised throughout his election campaign. They are to be denied their normal role of greasing the wheels of the new administration's costly transition to power by paying for office space and staff between now and the inauguration on 20 January.
Mr Podesta unveiled what he said was "the strictest, the most far-reaching ethics rules of any transition team in history," and declared "that the undue influence of Washington lobbyists and the revolving door of Washington ceases to exist."
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/node/37651
I guess that this is a good start. How about some FBI action in investigating lobbyists for unAmerican activities and dirty business practices?
Or even a cool reality show that captures enraged citizens that have lost their jobs or savings or loved ones tar-and-feathering suspect lobbists and running them out of town on rails, like aggrieved people used to when government failed to protect them? Just entertainment ;)

Absolutely! If they had focused their resources on hybrids and other alternative energy vehicles, they would have buyers lined up at their doors, similar to the waiting lists for Prius. But, instead they kept churning our Silverados and Escalades and now they're wondering why no one wants to buy. Duh! No money for poor decisionmaking!
I am so happy to see that Senator Obama is now President elect Obama. I worked on the campaign, making phone calls and knocking on doors. I felt like I needed to do more, so I loaned the Elbert county Colorado campaign my $2000 laptop, since they were short of computers. Our co-ordinator, Gagan Gupta personally promised that it would be returned to me. It was not and now no one will answer my emails or phone calls. I have been robbed, after doing my part to help Senator Obama get elected. I am hurt, angry and frustrated about this and will not rest until I get my computer back. What kind of people would steal from a volunteer. If anyone out there has any knowledge of where Gagan Gupta is, could you please respond to me at mrtjacks@yahoo.com.
GregL, and don't forget that Walter Reed was outsourced to a new company founded (by a Bush Ranger, and former Halliburton executive) that had absolutely zero experience in management of any type.
The memorandum “describes how the Army’s decision to privatize support services at Walter Reed Army Medical Center was causing an exodus of ‘highly skilled and experienced personnel,’” the committee’s letter states. “According to multiple sources, the decision to privatize support services at Walter Reed led to a precipitous drop in support personnel at Walter Reed.”The letter said Walter Reed also awarded a five-year, $120-million contract to IAP Worldwide Services, which is run by Al Neffgen, a former senior Halliburton official.
They also found that more than 300 federal employees providing facilities management services at Walter Reed had drooped to fewer than 60 by Feb. 3, 2007, the day before IAP took over facilities management. IAP replaced the remaining 60 employees with only 50 private workers.
Committee subpoenas former Walter Reed chief
Cererbus Capital Management (the Chairman of the Board is former Chimpy Treasury Secretary John Snow) is also heavily involved in the mess.
You remember Cerberus, don't you? They are the outfit that bought Chrysler and ran it into the ground and bled it dry before selling the rotting hulk to Daimler Benz.
More Pug privatization falling far short of what was advertised.

Tom, you statement above is contradictory. Note that Changan Automobile Group, ISFord Motor's China partner.
The Big 3 American automobile manufacturers have been working diligently at developing electric cars. Ford, Chrysler and GM all make a variety of hybrid automobiles and trucks and many more are planned for introduction in the near future.
There are many factors concerning electric cars, regardless of whether American or foreign made, that limit their acceptability by the American buyer, chief among them is size, safety and insurance costs. They are small by American standards and needs, their size and lightweight construction also greatly effect survivability of passengers in accidents and insurance companies charge a higher premium to insure them because even the smallest accidents result in high repair costs.
Another factor that is very important to consider is energy. Electric cars in large scale usage will require a tremendous amount of energy for recharging. How and where this need to met is in great debate. One only needs to read the news to understand that we are now at the limits of power generation in this country and in the future further restrictions on primary sources of fuel for electrical generation, namely coal and oil, will cause even further shortages and higher costs for consumers.
Oh yes, those batteries electric cars need to run? Not exactly your earth-friendly item. Huge source of pollution from mining of raw materials, production to dispopsal. Don’t glorify China as a place of green technology. China is the world’s leading source of pollution and it’s not staying within their borders. The air you breath today might have drifted west from there last week.

Next month in Atlanta, a federal court will hear the high-profile appeal of former Alabama governor Don E. Siegelman, whose conviction on corruption charges in 2006 became one of the most publicly debated cases to emerge from eight years of controversy at the Bush Justice Department. Now new documents highlight alleged misconduct by the Bush-appointed U.S. attorney and other prosecutors in the case, including what appears to be extensive and unusual contact between the prosecution and the jury.

I disagree. We're facing 4 to 8 years of a gaffe-proof presidency which will be extremely boring. Plus, and a big plus here, with her "sucking all the oxygen" out of the room from other republicans, she will be the likely candidate in 2012---easy peasy! She's like Ann Coulter cept without the arguable intelligence. Keep her around!
I am appalled that Obama would even give one second's thought to considering McCain for any post in his administration. The crap McLame dished out attacking Obama during the campaign was a new low.
I appeal to you Obama. Don't be stupid. You would be letting the mole into the door.
On another note, although you may fear Hillary's husband may try to control any post you consider placing Hillary, please remember that Bill is a lot more professional than that. AND to include Hillary in your administration is not only to have one of the most intelligent, experienced, leaders on your team, you would be helping 18 million people who wanted her to be President feel more encouraged.
And... for the fun of it... here's something to consider... Bill Clinton and Obama are both Leos. Two male lion personalities. Does that explain anything about the rifts between the two? Obama, to be wise, it is always best to at least take serious consideration and contemplate what the experienced, prove successful leader of the past thinks. It worked for American Indian tribes and should still be part of our corporate mentality (and since it isn't, probably explains a lot why there are so many companies failing). Just some thoughts for the fun of it.
Son of Stupid can't grasp that because morons like Limpball and Slanthead spent 30 years making "libburrrelllll" a dirty word most people self identify as "progressives". But the Pugs are too busy molesting young boys to figure out that they did it to themselves.
15% more people identify themselves as Democrats than members of the Grand Old Pedophile Party. UP 7% from 2002 while the Pugs have LOST 8% of their membership which translates into losing voters every election cycle since 2002.
Center Right Country, my ass.
Obama 364 McCain 163
Don't you just hate going to sports matches where there is always that one guy who trash talks the home team the entire game and then when his team gets completely whipped, he continues his rants and vows to come back next year?

If he names McLame to a post in his Administration he give credence to bi-partisanship. Also, naming McLame to an Administration post means Janet Napolitano (a DEM) gets to name his replacement. BINGO! 60 Senators!
If McLame screws up or goes rogue he can be fired instantly, to "spend more time with Cindy's money".
There may be more people on the west coast who identify themselves as Raider fans...but their team still gets their asses handed to them nearly every week.
No, Son of Stupid. That article is based on a Rasmussen Exit Poll of previously proclaimed "undecided" and "independent" voters who recently made up their mind. NOT a poll of all Democrats or a random sampling of the entire voting population. But you are too stupid to be able to read for content.
"Ralph Reed here in Georgia is a good example and Bush and his crowd... look how far to the right they have taken the whole political system. I think Ronald Reagan would have a hard time being a Republican today because the Republican Party has moved so far to the extreme right. He would be a moderate in today's political world."
Well, SOS, because the CANDIDATES have to get elected by the PUBLIC and have to appeal across the spectrum of the middle and the independents. But you are too stupid to grasp that simple concept.
Also, you and your brain dead ilk spent the last 30 years listening to the factually challenged hate mongers like Flush and O'Liely who pounded the term "Liberal" as a pejorative.
Progress is the term of choice until PRESIDENT Obama can fix the mess that Chimpy made.
But morons like you are hung up on pop culture terms and chose to ignore the rapid decline pf this once great Country because of your blind worship of an alcoholic crack head who never took the time to learn the difference between shit and Shiniola, but lazy stupid people like you liked him because you thought it would be a treat to have a beer with a lying thief of a booze hound.
And as an added bonus, your type mouth breathing low IQ Pugs discounts intelligence and curiosity, so the Pug Party is right up your alley on that 6,000 year old Flat Earth in which your believe.
Actually, pet troll, Idaho elected a moderate who ran as a Dem. That's because his former party left him for a cheap date in the mens bathroom.

Oops, I forgot that message already. bush was telling the G20 that we have too much regulation already. What a loser. He doesn't have a clue.
Walt Minninck?
Man calls himself a Blue-dog, smells like a progressive to me. wants to make sure we preserve our public lands, water, and air. Not a conservative position. Conserevative position is deregulate the resource industries and let them police themselves.
Balanced budget? More progressivism.
Workling with others to solve problems? Definitely progressive. conservatives believe in the "dog eat dog, let the biggest baddest dog win" theory. Cooperation just isn't in their nature.
Education? Minnick knows that "one size fits all" education like NCLB doesn't work. He says " I think it’s fine for the federal government to want to help local school districts establish standards and to finance incentives, but decisions must remain local."
A man can say he's one thing, but deep down inside, he is what the majority of Americans, indeed the majority of people all over, are: progressive. It's the way we're wired, and tying to force conservatism, a worldview that just doesn't work with our wiring, just results in overloads and backlashes.

If he names McLame to a post in his Administration he give credence to bi-partisanship. Also, naming McLame to an Administration post means Janet Napolitano (a DEM) gets to name his replacement. BINGO! 60 Senators! If McLame screws up or goes rogue he can be fired instantly, to "spend more time with Cindy's money.
I keep learning everyday. Phew!
Still, a sit-down over coffee or Jack Daniels with McLame just to clear the air is warranted. There are many other qualified repubs Obama could pick to help bipartisanship. Don't you think?
