TPMDC notes John Cornyn's conspicuous absence from the economic stimulus vote in the Senate:

No one doubted last night that the Senate's stimulus bill would clear the 60-vote hurdle it needed to move towards final approval today. But while cancer-stricken Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) summoned the strength to cast his vote, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) was the only active senator who missed the boat entirely.

As Ben Smith explains, Cornyn was in New York charming a group of conservative bigwigs -- and likely donors to the Senate GOP's 2010 campaign effort, which Cornyn is leading.

A second Great Depression is making our countrymen suffer? What else does a GOP Senator do when there is a vote for a recovery bill awaiting action but ignore it and party with his top 2% super rich financial donors. There is no excuse for this sort of behavior.

Now that the gamblers have been bailed out, it's just business as usual with Republicans. There is no excuse for this sort of behavior. Let's see if those tough Texan voters stand up to their errant, arrogant Senator in the next election.

The Republicans are just proving who their real constituency is: the super-rich. Their genius has been to get media shills (Rush, I'm looking at you) to convince the masses that the interests of the super-rich are their own. Makes me sad in my heart when I see how misguided people can be.

Has anyone proposed that senators who do not vote for the stimulus package simply opt out of receiving the money? Maybe if their states saw an actual downside to these jerks, they would wake up.

No,many conservatives simply want a plan that makes sense. We can think and do for ourselves and do not need a parent-child relationship with the government who just spends.

I guess the only answer in your mind to America’s problems is for the Democrats to continue to tell people they don’t have high expectations for their success, they will never be anybody, keep pushing them into the ground, tell them they can never learn a trade and be productive, they're not accountable, make them completely dependent, that they can spend your money and control your life better than you can, and that the Democrat politicians are smarter and better than you can ever hope to be.

It's fact that the Democratic Party is in the business of promoting failure. If people succeed, Dem. politicians are out of a job!

Here is your education for the day. NO - you can't opt out states (who the senators represent) from receiving money from the plan because WE ARE ALL PAYING FOR your spending bill. Seriously - wow?

Can someone please tell me what were the "green" tax credits passed in the stimulus bill, specifically for the homeowners / individuals. Previously, there were tax credits for insulation, converting to solar, radatiant barrier, hybrids, however they expired in 2007. I thought that the media would have been all over them since this is the "green party" but I must have missed it in their boardcast.

Maybe you Dems have forgotten what you put the state of FL through when GWB was elected. Hanging chads, etc. Reps let you buy & steal the election, but the facts are still coming in.
Just remember, BC was only successful because he and the majority Rep Congress worked togehter.
All you Dems did for the country & GWB was obstruct & now YOU can see the results of your
intense hatred for a good man, George W Bush.
History will prove this to be true!
