Vermont legislature overturns Governor veto of same sex marriage

Minutes ago the Vermont House overturned Governor Douglas' (R) veto of their marriage equality bill. The veto override passed by a final vote of 100-49. They were preceded by the Vermont Senate's vote early this morning to overturn the Governor's veto which passed 23-5.

This should be the sort of.."default" position of the Democratic Party...not separate, "but equal," civl unions. Marriage Equality is a worthy cause, and time is in our favor. Young voters overwhelmingly support marriage equality, and taking a position against it (which is what civil unions are) can be (and should be) equated with Northerners who sympathized with slaves, but did nothing about it.

Gay marriage is an important issue, but the U.S. should be doing way more to address the Millennium Development Goals. The plan to end world hunger has been getting seriously ignored.

$30 billion: Annual shortfall to end world hunger.

$550 billion: U.S. Defense budget.
