Our Party

Welcoming Sen. Specter to the Democratic Party

Posted by Jonah on April 28, 2009 at 04:07 PM

Earlier today Senator Arlen Specter left the Republican Party and he is now a Democrat.

A Republican for 43 years, Senator Specter has chosen to leave a party that he says has moved far to the right and join Senate Democrats as they work with President Obama to turn our country and our economy around.

Senator Specter courageously supported the President's economic recovery package -- setting politics aside to create solutions to America's problems.

Help us welcome Sen. Specter.

President Obama tells Sen. Specter we are "thrilled to have you."

Welcome home Arlene. It also thrills me when Republicans come to their senses and see the light !

Senator Specter, you have impressed me over the years with your bipartisan outlook, level head, and pragmatic approach to governing and leading. I was very excited to see that you changed to the Democratic party! This had to be a very difficult decision, and it took a lot of courage...I hope some of your Republican counterparts will see that!

Senator Specter,
Welcome to the Democratic Party! I thank you for making that hard decision to change parties. This is something that I know will help the fight for change in our country. Welcome aboard!

For a party that needs numbers they displayed their lack of touch with the country they represent. The Republicans across this nation are setting up an easy primary season but a long impossible climb in the general election. I discuss this in my latest entry at Mattress Answer Man Speaks about Arlen Specter.

Sorry to disagree with all of the above. At first, I was thrilled that a Republican had defected. Then I remembered the Anita Hill & Clarence Thomas fiasco. The more I think about it, the less inclined I am to support Specter. I felt McCain was too old and Arlen is even older. As far as I know, we still have a primary election in PA and I hope we'll see some more desirable candidates come forward.

As a democrat, I always welcome new member into our party. However, I do not trust Arlen Specter. His intention to be part of the Democratic Party conveniently came at a time when Democratic won across the nation. His intention to me was a political move, he want to win an election, not truly support the Democratic agenda. Just take a look at his voting record where he consistently vote against some of the things that Democrat believe in. Watch out folks!

Way to go Democratic Party! What a great way to welcome someone to our party... Strip them of their power & make it even more difficult to get elected.
Maybe when we find some other Republican senators who are moderate & want to abandon their party we can welcome them with open arms & jam a knife in their back during the embrase. Frankly, I'm embarassed by this. Sounds like something the Republicans would do.

What are you people smokin back there in Washington, D.C. Arlen Specter was a brave person to switch parties and then you treat him like he's dirt. Straighten up and give him his seniority back. I don't know who feels threatened by him but you need to straighten your act up. I don't think he intends to push the majority leader out. He just wants a party that he feels comfortable with. Get this mess cleared up. It's really making dems look bad on the news. I love this party but sometimes don't understand what you are all thinking of. Specter has been through at least two bouts of cancer and he doesn't need the added stress. Another apology Pres. Obama is going to have to give. I'd get tired of apologizing for you people after awhile if I was him. Peace!!!

I Like Obama's approach to foreign policy, the lilly act, and the crackdown on offshore tax havens.. can you stop bailing out failing companies though?!! they don't work and obv won't!

mSav111 on May 8, 2009 at 01:55 AM

this is purely political, he would've lost to a real liberal democrat so he switched parties to guarantee a centrist democrat.. this sucks, you shouldn't be allowed to switch parties, we know the party we're electing!

Mr. Hill.
It was right, but I cannot say for sure that it was rear, because when I mounted the car it was--it had a different sound, first of all, than the first sound that I heard. The second one had almost a double sound--as though you were standing against something metal and firing into it, and you hear both the sound of a gun going off and the sound of the cartridge hitting the metal place, which could have been caused probably by the hard surface of the head. But I am not sure that that is what caused it.
Mr. Specter.
Are you describing this double sound with respect to what you heard on the occasion of the second shot?
Mr. Hill.
The second shot that I heard; yes, sir.
Mr. Specter.
Now, do you now or have you ever had the impression or reaction that there was a shot which originated from the front of the Presidential car?
