With a full House vote expected this week on the American Clean Energy and Security Act (or Waxman-Markey), all eyes turn to the nation’s energy policy. President Obama is committed to an energy plan that will generate millions of new jobs, break our dependence on foreign oil, reduce the threat of dangerous carbon pollution and restore America’s role as a global leader in the clean energy industry.
As part of “Energy Week”, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis were at events in Michigan, Tennessee and Arkansas today highlighting the President’s commitment to passing comprehensive energy and climate legislation. Earlier this week, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson were in New Jersey, Oklahoma and Colorado.
Yesterday, the White House released a new web video featuring Van Jones, the Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. The video demonstrates how weatherizing homes will be a major source of new jobs. Watch it below, and be sure to watch for the House vote on Friday.
I am writing to complain about the reckless waste of resources you are using in your promotional materials. A few days ago I was dismayed to find a hefty package in the mail with a lovely embossed certificate in a parchment envelope and numerous other documents thanking me for being a contributor and supporter of President Obama and, of course, requesting more in donations. I am already on board for a second Obama term. But, as a board member of Polar Bears International (PBI), it is my duty to admonish you about the waste of paper and money you are using to contact me. Use my email address and forget these ridiculous mailings. That piece used trees, chemicals, money, and god knows what else all for little benefit. PBI, in conjunction with the top arctic and polar bear scientists in the world, are working on the precept that we have only five years to sustain a viable genetic pool of polar bears to perpetuate the species until we get out climate in check. Unlike other species, no matter what the current census of bears, once their ice is gone, they are gone. They are beginning to die by the hundreds for lack of food and ice to hunt and breed. There is nothing that we can do to offer them more habitat or better protection. Change to their environment is happening so fast, there will not be time for them to adapt--a process that usually takes generations. Please walk the talk. Conserve wherever and whenever possible. Demonstrate your commitment to responsible behavior.
This ain't about the environment. Just bloggin about the appaling article I just read about the gun toting church goers in that church in Kentucky. The pastor allowed the congregants to carry "UNLOADED" guns to one Sunday service. This confirms it people.........this country is absolutely going bonkers. What in GODS name does guns have to do with the gospel message."DAMN" I guess if you don't like the sermon just shoot the poor preacher. Only in good "OLE" DIXIE. WHEW!!
