President Obama Welcomes LGBT Leaders to the White House

This week marks the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, the 1969 Greenwich Village protests that gave birth to the modern gay rights movement.
Today President Obama joined a crowd of about 250 people in the East Room of the White House for a first-of-its-kind event honoring and celebrating the accomplishments of LGBT Americans. Invited guests included families, volunteers, activists, community leaders and local officials, who were all on hand to celebrate Pride Month.
ABC news' article on the event is excerpted below:
"The President and First Lady entered to thunderous applause. President Obama told the group he is committed to equality for their community.
"This struggle continues today, for even as we face extraordinary challenges as a nation, we cannot and will not put aside issues of basic equality," he said, "We seek an America in which no one feels the pain of discrimination based on who you are or who you love."
Brian Bond, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement and a gay American, wrote a post on the White House blog in anticipation of today’s event. We'll post the President's full remarks as soon as they become available.
UPDATE (by Cloe): Here are President Obama's full remarks.

Obama promises and does not deliver.
How about ending dont ask dont tell?
Why does he lack the courage and integrity to do the right thing?
I am not voting for him again
Why does Obama promise and not deliver?

Obama-Never again
President Obama has been in the Oval Office exactly 161 days, yet each group wants THEIR adjenda put up front and taken care of. Lots and Lots of important issues to people's lives out there to be worked on. Let's put them all in the order they belong ~!
KNOW that Obama is a friend to the Gay community, where George Bush was the enemy. THAT should make everyone breath a sigh of relief.
Obama just defended DOMAS by comparing gays to incest. Now instead of ending DADT he will just not follow up on tips from blackmail and extortion people.
He is not delivering. I guess he has time for the preachers though.
And Clinton did more damage to gays then Bush.
I love the way you say Bush was the enemy and Obama is our friend. He treats his friends like crap. He has done nothing fir us. I hope his Mormon Bush administration friends that wrote the DOMA brief support him because he needs to replace votes he has lost.
Also noted was your get ion the back of the line speech. Don't look for me in line next election, I WONT BE THERE. No more Obama
If Mr. Obama is a friend of the LGBT and minority communities and believes in EQUAL justice re; forms of free speech..why are Anonymous groups allowed to threaten the safety and security of Gays and minorities and given no attention or importance ? Why ?
how do these blogs work ?
