Good morning, everyone.
"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

P.S. Essie, why did your city have it's 4th of July celebration a week early? Is there something the rest of us are missing here? I hope it's not going to be the end of the world or something. I personally love a parade...was a drum majorette.
70SandyH on July 3, 2009 at 09:05 AM
we celebrated our village's centennial. nope, you didn't miss much. I did find a great deal at one of the many community yard sales though.
Miss Lily loved watching her first parade!
Morning Essie and all good Dems,
Last night at 1:30 in the morning it started. There was thunder, lightning and sporadic rain. Then the lights went out. It rained and thundered on and off until about 7:30 this morning when the power came back on. Since about 6:30 this morning it has be raining a steady rain with no end in sight.
It must be that pesky Republican Global Warming our sane scientists talk about.
We certainly need the rain. To have this much and for such and extended period is really unusual.
I hope you all enjoy your day before the 4th. I was going to mow today but it is too wet. Perhaps I will just sit at the computer all day.
Hi Johne,
the northeast has experienced some of the worst rain, wind and thunder storms ever lately.
The town across the river from us, is trying to get declared a disaster area, from a tornado that formed last week and destroyed homes and uprooted trees that were hundreds of years old.
The dogs are going crazy from the thunder, and I dread the beginning of the firework displays in all the surrounding towns starting tonight. Plus then you get the immature nuts like the guy across the street, 48 years old, goes to New Hampshire to buy fireworks not sold here, and sets them off night after night for weeks.
This is not a holiday I like very much, outside of the burgers and potato salad!
WHO said this illegal invasion was not all about OIL???????? Lying freaken sneaks ! 4300 dead boys, 35,000 disabled ones, and a million dead innocent Iraqis-----all for the greed of Cheney and Oil Execs !!!!
Eager to Tap Iraq's Vast Oil Reserves, Industry Execs Suggested Invasion
Two years before the invasion of Iraq, oil executives and foreign policy advisers told the Bush administration that the United States would remain "a prisoner of its energy dilemma" as long as Saddam Hussein was in power.
That April 2001 report, "Strategic Policy Challenges for the 21st Century," was prepared by the James A. Baker Institute for Public Policy and the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations at the request of then-Vice President Dick Cheney

for those of you who either have never researched or who have become hazy on the purpose of Project for New American Century, here is an excellent synopsis of it. The original intent was to control the world's oil, and establish a military presence in the Middle East. Naturally Cheney, Billy Kristol, Rumsfeld, Jeb Bush and a bunch of other Chicken hawk cowardly yellow bellied small men were leaders. They have merely changed tht name of their Evil Group now because so much bad publicity followed them.
http://www.rightweb.irc-online.org/profile/Project_for_the_New_American_Century
Morning Pam,
Nice to hear from you.
You had mentioned the tornado. I hope there wasn't too much damage and that there was no one killed. We have never seen weather the likes of what we are getting.
Our little Shitzu doesn't like thunder very much. She woke us up this morning when the thunder started, even before we heard it. She gets in my wife's face with her little face and stays really close. The other dog couldn't care less.
The rain is finally letting up after about 3 hours of a steady rain which filled our birdbath which is about three inches deep.
Talk about lying traitors and cowards to boot. When are these people going to be declared enemy combatants by the US? when are PNAC or whatever they call themselves now and Heritage Foundation going to be declared subversive organizations?
They in cahoots with the oil barons have committed war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes against peace and must all be brought to justice. Treason should not nave a statute of limitations.
I'll bet the corporations will try to run jebb bush and cheney next go round for the White House.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
They are arrogant enough to even consider such a move.
Pam,
Those pnac principals sound just like the principles set forth by Adolf Hitler in his book, Mein Kampf. We all saw how long the thousand year Reich lasted. While in power they tried to take over the world and gain "Lebensraum". Persecuting the Jews was their way of funding the takeover of the world and their way of stirring the German people to action. This is so "Reaganesque".
We got rid of most of these old farts like Reagan and I thought we would have an era of peace in the world. cheney and the bush crime family saw to it that this was not to be.
Hopefully, Johne, the neocons saw that they are alone here in the USA, with their Aggressive, bully boy approach to the world. All it did was ruin our country and it's image in the world
Good afternoon, all.
It looks like Governor Rich Perry has already ceded Texas from the Union......
Aircraft repair jobs sold to foreign workers, resumes not important
Wednesday, July 1, 2009
By BYRON HARRIS / WFAA-TV
A News 8 investigation found that hundreds of aircraft mechanics have been brought into the United States to work at aircraft repair facilities.
Insiders say the companies that are importing the mechanics are so eager to save money, they’re overstating their qualifications. The result may be a threat to safety, abetted by lax enforcement of immigration law.
At daybreak any morning at San Antonio Aerospace, hundreds of workers amble through the gates for the day shift. They repair big jets like Airbuses, Boeing 757s and MD-11s. But, despite the fact that it's a huge facility in the middle of the San Antonio International Airport, a large number of the mechanics are only temporary workers from foreign countries.
News 8 found they’re from Mexico, the Philippines and Chile, among other places. They have been brought specifically to the United States to work for San Antonio Aerospace (SAA). News 8 followed a special bus San Antonio Aerospace, used to pick up foreign workers every morning. Workers riding on the bus were from the Philippines. The workers, who wouldn’t say how much money they make, are part of a stream of imported mechanics brought to this country at cut-rate wages, according to several sources familiar with the business...
http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/wfaa/latestnews/stories/wfaa090630_mo_harris.23327cea.html
And I bet most of them don't have a H1B visa. This is what you get when Republicans decide to look the other way; and then when their top campaign contributors get caught doing something illegal, act all outraged.
Can't you see Faux News now urging teabaggers and Minutemen to go out and demonstrate against these workers when conservatives sanctioned this practice all along...and blaming it on Obama, Clinton, and/or Carter.
Sorry, boys. This is purely a Reagan Revolution innovation.
Just how long is it going to take for the Far Right's racist, working poor to finally figure out that they have been used...badly...for over 35 years by the Republicans. It's not going to get any better unless they vote them out.
The GOP's vision for America's future?
Try some sort of backwater Mississippi or Alabama with a bunch of white slaves working in the fields along side their dark-skinned counterparts and illegals doing all the remaining jobs...with all our young slaving away overseas in some needless foreign entanglements to benefit war profiteers.
They are the NEW Chosen Ones? Why don't they just convert to Judaism instead and start acting like Americans again instead of multinationals? The United States will no longer be treated like some colony for any foreign interests to exploit.
We're on to you. Those that consort with foreign interests against their own country are traitors and must be held accountable at the polls.
Good afternoon, all patriotic DEMS!
CNN is reporting that the Wasilla Snowbilly is going to announce soon (if she hasn't already, she's LATE) that she won't be running for re-election. She probably doesn't want to get her ass handed to her just before she shows up in Iowa to start campaigning for Pres.
Let's see how well she does without all that RNC largess being funneled at her. No fancy duds, no $10,000.00 make up jobs, no army of handlers trying o keep her hidden for a few months.
She won't make it past the first round of Primaries, if that far.
Update, Caribou Barbie says she is a weakling and will step down early.
She can't take the pressure.
The Swedes do something right !
The Carbon Tax Has Proven Its Effectiveness in Sweden
Thursday 02 July 2009
by: Olivier Truc | Visit article original @ Le Monde
Swedish Environment Minister Andreas Carlgren. Since Sweden introduced a carbon tax in 1991, Swedish greenhouse gas waste has been reduced by 9 percent, while, during the same period, economic growth was 48 percent. (Photo: Lars Anders Karlberg / NyTeknik)
Sweden, which has just taken over the European Union (EU) presidency for six months, is attempting to convince its European partners to follow its example by instituting a carbon tax. "A carbon tax affects many more waste products than does the system of a market trading carbon emissions quotas," asserts Swedish Environment Minister Andreas Carlgren. "But, take care," specifies Ministry spokesperson Mattias Johansson, "we're not talking about a European tax. Every country would assess its own carbon tax. There would be a minimum level and the tax would be deducted by the member governments, along the lines of the VAT."
In 1991, the Swedes established a carbon tax that bears on energy consumption. To the skeptics who assert that this tax kills growth, they answer with their record: since the introduction of the tax, Swedish greenhouse gas waste has been reduced by 9 percent, while, during the same period, economic growth was 48 percent. "So this tax does not interfere with growth in any way,"
concludes Mr. Johansson.

It is just breaking on CNN that Sarah Palin will NOT run for re-election for Governor of Alaska. She can't take the heat. She wants to further shirk her responsibilities so she can run for president. I congratulate the people of Alaska for shedding themselves of her. This could be used as a live open thread as she appears before reporters and cameras.

Update [2009-7-3 15:32:13 by RandySF]:
KTVU has confirmed that she will resign!
WASILLA, Alaska - At an 11:00 a.m. press conference today, Governor Sarah Palin announced that she would not seek a second term as governor. The governor continued, saying that by the end of the month she would resign from the governorship.
On a day that most public employees have off, Palin sent out an early morning press release indicating that she would be giving an announcement from her home in Wasilla. Joining Palin were her parents, family and state commissioners.
Palin announced that she will transfer power to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. Parnell will be sworn in during the upcoming governor's picnic in Fairbanks. An emotionally choked-up Parnell said he plans to keep all state commissioners and continue to pursue a natural gas pipeline.
Palin did not field questions and would not give any indications as to her future plans.

FOX wingnut Charles Kraphumper says she's a loonie and a dirt bag in addition to being wholly unqualified to be President. (Sort of).
...Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer said on Fox News yesterday that Palin “is not a serious candidate for the presidency.” “You cannot sustain a campaign of platitudes and clichés over a year and a half if you’re running for the presidency,” he said.
(Emph. in original, and is also a hot link)
She couldn't even fill out ONE TERM of a part time job!! ANd she thinks she can be President??
yes quitting your job as governor is a perfect way to impress everyone with your leadership skills and sets the table for a presidential run...hahahahaha....it sets the table for working at denny's setting the tables is what it does though i do pray with my conservative catholic anti papist pro nazi revisionism cult that she runs on the repelican ticket in 2012....no one would be easier to beat except perhaps dickhead cheney....
my prediction...it turns out she was hiking her own Appalachian trail up in alaska....the one that goes to russia and while on it she got the vapors and fell into the arms and other appendages of a ruskie skunk gland collector and now is committed to making the beast with two backs in his yurt....until end times roll by...
She will be the next clueless air head wingnut on "FOX and Friends".
Afternoon all good Dems,
While I was walking the dogs just now I tuned past hannity's station on our only radio station with a signal strong enough to reach my house. hannity is away on another raygun fund raising tea party funded by the fascist pig heritage foundation. The moron taking his place was playing phalin's speech. God, she is a stupid prick. She was blaming the "liberals" for all her trouble and the fact that they had the audacity to come to alaska to dig up dirt. Her remarks were incoherent as usual and the hannity host was applauding the bitch saying "she is doing it without a teleprompter. This guy is a real asshole too, just like handjobity. It sounds to me like she is going to travel the US making incoherent "speeches" without teleprompter. She has as much chance of being chosen to run for president as I have bending over and kissing my own ass. What a f**king loon.
Of course that's what the neocon party has become. It is filled with evangelical loons who don't know shit from Shinola. We tried that for eight years with another jackass and that we allknow how that worked out.
This didn't take long. The wingnuts have found their scapegoat!
And nothing to do with the MSM finally looking into Toad's membership in that domestic terrorism cell populated by wingnut secessionists and John Birchers?
yes the liberal armies were seen coming over the north pole armed with copies of the endangered species act, water balloons and boston cream pies....palin tried to call up the national guard but they screen their calls just in case it's her on the line....
Afternoon all great Dems! It's been one rough summer for the republicans! I love it!
She just couldn't take that floating Putin head rearing up in the sky when she tried to sleep. It drove her batty and forced her to become a compulsive liar.
Doobie:
Happy 4th of July! Wow - is this fun or what? I can't help but think that we are only getting a small part of this story! I think we are going to learn of her "hiking the Applachian Trail" or something similar, maybe a sex tape? I will say this, it would have been a lot of fun to try and watch her run for the nomination - she would have been an even bigger joke!

Andrea Mitchell says sources close to Gov. Palin say she is now "out of politics for good."
--Josh Marshall
Just what does "for good" mean? Does it mean she will never be a candidate again, or does it mean that her not being in politics any more is for the Public good?
Howdy, Mary. And to think, I was guessing that today Sanford would be "taking a hike".
Good afternoon, all.
What?
Palin has resigned?
She finally figured out she didn't know how to execute laws or manage a state? She couldn't figure out how she could fit her duties as governor into her husband's busy snowmobile season?
She was afraid to run for re-election. Period.
She can't take the heat as governor. Those attorney bills were really mounting up as more and more unethical personal charges were being found charged to the state.
And perhaps her "spiritual adviser" thought she had gotten a little too witchy during last fall's campaign and was going to withhold his endorsement next fall in the governor's race?
Let's be frank. She'd rather be a Faux News media star without having to perform. Another Michael Jackson is born? Well, she may not be able to moonwalk but she certainly is a moonbat.
Gosh, when you think the Republicans couldn't get any more bizarre, they do. Maybe this is her way of promoting her book...if she ever gets around to writing it?
Palin's brother, Snowtire said on FOX that the tipping point was because she had to spend 80% of her time defending herself against ethics charges because the big bad Liberals were always picking on her.
Maybe if she wasn't a corrupt lying LAZY air head, and spent some time actually doing her job, instead of going on petty vengeance payback sprees and family feuds she wouldn't have had time to be an unethical piece of shit.

Palin's brother, Snowtire...
Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on July 3, 2009 at 05:33 PM
What? Is he an Alaskan retread?
Doobie: I think that the Sanford resignation is only a matter of time. He 'left' today to join his family on vacation and his wife has announced her intent to forgive him for the affair. Pretty soon we'll hear "I need to concentrate on re-building my family ..." and the rest of the usual republican holier-than-thou BS before he resigns. Back to Silly Sarah - I'm kind of disappointed. Her announcement was stupid and rambling but I really was looking forward to her trying to win the nomination! It was going to be 'open' season!
It is kind of weird that she brought up Sanford at the start of her resignation speech. It was revealed today that somebody hacked into Sanford's squeeze's email account and left threatening messages like "You don't know who you are dealing with" and links to all of her correspondence with the Holy Gov.
Besides being classless, Palin bringing up Sanford begs the question of HER fidelity. Maybe all the teabaggers should rethink those "Where's the Birth Certificate" bill boards as they may also apply to Sara Baracuda.
Watch the video of her speech, and pay attention to the parts highlighted in yellow just under it.
Sarah Palin resignation -- VIDEO
She sure seems like she 't want to be there. All flustered and it looks like her mind is miles away thinking of something else/ Even more than usual.

Come now. Fey knows the value of timing.
The lovely and talented Sarah just can't stop talking (faster and faster) long enough to come up for a breath of fresh air occasionally. Does she ever stop to think...ever?
The Vanity Fair story must have been the last straw. She knows she's never going to be able to recover from a bad first impression on the national scene. And today's performance only confirms it again.
Nah, that's not it. More likely she only went into politics in the first place for the graft and opportunity to get even with all her enemies. Now that she can't get by with it because of the spotlight on her every move, she quit in frustration?
She's not fooling anybody but herself. And oddly enough, I think she even realizes it. What a truly complicated simpleton.
But let's look on the bright side. She's free to pose for Playboy now. sally* will be thrilled.
marymac_memphis on July 3, 2009 at 05:37 PM
Hi, mary.
I'm disappointed, too. I love Tina Fey and would have enjoyed seeing her continue her parody for at least a few more years. Perhaps, Palin will go out on the rubber chicken/fund raising circuit so she can remain in the public eye?
I bet some billionaire conservative paid her to go away. The GOP knows better than us how much of a drag she would have been on their future as a candidate.
Hey, why didn't she step down today and let the Lt. Governor be sworn in immediately? Something isn't right her. This was thrown together fast.
Or maybe that's the way she always does everything?
nixon said a similar thing when he lost the election for governor in California in 1962. "The press won't have me to kick around anymore."
Typical republican crap talking points. Press Bad, Me good.
Doo-Bee-Doo-Bee-Doo on July 3, 2009 at 05:46 PM
Come now. You're not thinking she might have had an affair with an Argentinian TV reporter...met her on the dance floor? haha.
Seriously, I think Ann Coulter must be having the vapors. Her career is in real jeopardy with Palin now free to leave Alaska and take Coulter's place as queen of the conservatives potty mouths. Newt and Limbaugh might be in trouble, too.
Palin as the new leader of the GOP? I like it.
Goody, goody.
Meanwhile, back to the soap opera in South Carolina....
39 trips for Sanford with no security in '09
EXCLUSIVE: Governor's secret trip prompts scrutiny
By CLIF LeBLANC
The State
Thursday, Jul. 02, 2009
Gov. Mark Sanford left the Governor’s Mansion without a security escort, 38 times in 2008. In the first six months of this year, he left the mansion without security, 39 times.
Those trips are about one-third of the 195 trips Sanford made from the mansion, with or without security, over that 18-month period.
The frequency with which the governor shed his security detail has fallen under scrutiny after his secret trip earlier this month to Argentina.
Statehouse security
The information was obtained from security logs provided to The State newspaper under open-records laws...
http://www.thestate.com/sanford/story/849446.html
Bill Press is saying on Hardball that he thinks there is something fishy about this Palin announcement, too.
Is she about to be indicted? Is Todd selling meth on the side? Something is wrong in the state of Alaska.
Get thee to a nunnery, indeed.
Maybe "Nitwit of the North" got some flak from the self proclaimed "flag lovin' 'Murkins" about that cheesecake picture of her in hot pants with the American Flag draped over a chair as if it were an Afghan, IN VIOLATION OF THE FLAG CODE.
But Pugs are (by nature) stupid hypocrites and compulsive LIARS.
no doubt about it dropping out of politics is a great political move!

yes this is more good news for the repelicans!!!!
hahahahahahaha
Evening Dems!!!
so Sarah finally found a little class, and has decided that Alaska is better off without her ! And her family that she has neglected, flaunted, dressed in clothes paid for by others, ignored now maybe will get some attention.
Are you listening to even Republican analysts (outside of Mary Matlin, the flake) saying that she is committing Political suicide!
The ONE thing that People could hold against Palin that she could not fight, was her lack of Experience ! NOW, she is backing out of the little bit of political experience she could fall back on. She is truly done !
I guess that Vanity Fair article , with even her own McCain campaign staff saying she was a Diva, a hillbilly, inexperienced just finally proved her to be nothing but a joke to Americans. Yeah, those that loved her, really loved her, because they were the Right Wing Religious nuts who all they had to hear was "No Abortion" and they jumped on the dingbat's wagon, but 80% of the American public, moderate republicans, Independents, and Democrats all knew she was not qualified to become President of this great country!
Bye Sarah. I shall miss having my laugh each day reading up on your mishaps ! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out of the political doorway!
"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin announced Friday that she was resigning her office later this month, a stunning decision that could free her to run for president more easily but also raises questions about her political standing at home.
Palin has been dogged by a series of ethical complaints, many of which her allies consider as frivolous, and has had to set up a legal defense fund to pay her bills.
Just this week, the Anchorage Daily News reported that these complaints against her administration had reached almost $300,000, much of that sum owing to the so-called 'Troopergate" probe of Palin.
Beyond ethical questions, Palin has continued to face other difficulties since her return to Alaska.
Legislators of both parties have complained about some of her time away from the state capitol and Palin has had to grapple with a series of tabloid-type stories relating to her family.
ahhhhh, geez, she is Through with politics??? This is gonna make some old horny men in MN very sad! No more midnight fantasies !!
"Sarah Palin's speech this morning rocked Alaskans and people around the country. Palin's predictability is her unpredictability. I'm seeing Alaskan flags on cars, in front of houses, some citizens expressing their own Independence Day. Other citizens are angry and playing the blame game; the bloggers, the MSM, Alaskan legislators, her family under attack, etc.
For weeks the rumors of a criminal investigation against the governor have been brewing. They are rumors, but are swirling fresh again with Palin's resignation. I'm holding my breath for the other "Naughty Monkey" to drop. Another theory for the resignation is that the Palins would have to disclose the book deal as well as other financial details as governor.
Andrea Mitchell of MSNBC is now claiming Palin has told some close to her that she is through with politics.
I have said Sarah Palin's political ambition combined with her intellect is like putting a jet engine on a golf cart; lots of horse power and no steering capabilities. Today she proved it.
Alaskans pride ourselves on our frontier spirit, but this isn't what we meant. There is much work ahead to put the drama behind us and carry on to the betterment of our state.
That's just how "mavericky" we are.
hahahaha, remember how excited the Repugs were over those Tea Parties they thought were going to turn everyone to the GOP???

See THIS is why the Republican Party will slowly die out-----they cannot garner any enthusiasm for their policies, they have no leaders, and Republicans just do not unite and organize like we Dems do!
Can't wait for 2010, when we kick more Red Ass!
Blog ya tomorrow, Dems!
Still smiling since November 4th, 2008!!!!!!!
Bye Bye Sarah Palin.
Good luck finding a new career.

Bush. Setting the bar.
It's gonna be hard for any president to get under THAT.
Here's a prediction some of you might remember...
The Supreme Court will rule that it is impossible to determine who got the most votes in Minnesota and order a new election which Coleman will win due to the foolish behavior of Obama and the Dems in Washington. It will be a precursor to what will happen next year.

I resent these neocon thugs putting on a "tea party". They don't have a clue what the original tea party was all about.
I have Irish Ancestors who go back to the early 1700's in Boston and a family story says that one of my relatives was involved in the tea party.
There is also a story where an Irish ancestor was being harassed by the English so he had himself imported to the New World in a barrel to get away from the British.
For the record, one of my Boston ancestors was a Minute Man.
These stupid neocons are most likely newbies, their parents arriving steerage class in a pig boat in 1910. I thoroughly resent how these pigs are trying to tear down our once great nation.
Chicago,
Asshole neocons just don't get it do they? GM just advertised a full size hybrid Cadillac. What is wrong with this picture. GM gives a tank a new name and the think it can be sneaked under the radar and some dumb bastard neotard will buy it.
I think we should do like they did in Europe years ago and charge $6 a gallon for gasoline. Maybe that would get their attention.
The Rasmussen poll of voters across the United States found that 44 percent of those surveyed had an unfavorable view of Minnesota's newest Senator.

Well, duh, you stupid idiot. He's a senator. He represents the STATE, not the nation. What does he care what fools like you in the other 49 states think. How does his favorable rating in MN compare to that of the loser Coleman?
Yeah, you guessed it. People from MN see Coleman as the sore cry-baby loser he is.
Too bad, stupid troll.
Morning Dems,
I've got a mental picture, of Missy Palin trying to debate Obama in the next election cycle! Especially when asked questions about Foreign Policy, Can she really see Russia from her window?, who took care of her special needs baby while she traipsed all over the countrY!
the ONLY thing sarah has, is charisma. Like Reagan, she thinks she can use that to propel herself to the highest office in the land. SHIT, there are even Republicans, including top Republicans, who think she should sit back and shut up! The ONLY ones out there cheering and greeting Sarah , are those swinging their rosary beads and Bibles. No one with a brain is. I know more Republicans who said they did not vote for McCain because of her, than did vote for McCain. No matter how much TRUE Conservatives wish to be back in control, they will not do it on the back of an embecile that makes their party look stupid.
"To step down on a Friday before a three-day holiday, people are going to scrutinize it: why is she doing it, question her judgment," said Ed Rollins, who ran former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign last year. "It leaves her with less than three years as governor on her resume - not a very strong argument to run for president. The way she did it - the fact she did it - damages her, damages her immensely. People aren't happy about a governor quitting, unless you're Governor [Mark] Sanford [currently under fire for his extramarital affair in Argentina]. Her doing this adds to the Sarah Palin mystique, but not in a good way."
Palin's had a rough 2009 thus far, drawing headlines often more suitable for Britney Spears than for a serious politician and gracing the covers of more tabloids than news magazines. She's picked heated public battles with Levi Johnston, the father of her teenage daughter's baby, and with late night comedian David Letterman for crossing the line in mocking her daughter's sex life. In the last week, she's been eviscerated in a Vanity Fair article that has reduced the Republican Party into two camps, Palin supporters and detractors, who slug it out on the cable shows. She's also rankled Republican insiders by accepting two high profile speaking engagements and then bailing out. And then she twice bolted a congressional dinner before finally agreeing to appear, but declining to speak. Such fickle behavior has not endeared her to many party stalwarts, and her name is consistently left off the list when reporters ask the likes of John McCain and former Presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush for ideas on who could be the next leader of the party.
Perhaps because of these missteps, many GOP advisers have urged Palin to keep a low profile,
But by quitting her governorship, she relinquishes her best platform. "I wouldn't call this a strategy," said John Weaver, a former top adviser to McCain. "This makes no sense. The way for her to increase her chances in 2012 is to be reelected in 2011." Weaver cited the difficulties faced by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney's in competing in 2008 against politicians still in office, adding, "A good point guard doesn't quit."
"This is classic Sarah Palin, the mixture of the personal and political," says Michael Carey, an Anchorage talk show host. "It's all done ad hoc. There's no strategic plan. It's, 'This is what I'm going to do, baby. Here we go,' " Carey said in a phone interview. A Washington friend with whom Palin spoke Friday morning said the soon-to-be ex-Governor of Alaska doesn't have a concrete plan going forward but she plans on working on her book - bought by HarperCollin's in May - and helping Republican candidates. The friend also said that Palin, who will step down July 25, had become increasingly unhappy with the media scrutiny, her battles with the state legislature, the 15 ethics complaints filed against her by outside progressive groups and politics as a whole.
Palin's announcement caps a miserable few weeks for the Republican Party. Senator John Ensign, often mentioned as a potential 2012 candidate, resigned his leadership position after admitting to an affair, followed the next week by Governor Sanford's admission of several indiscretions. "The way we are going, if you are the Junior Jaycees president in Memphis you could be in line for the nomination," quipped Weaver. Indeed, many in the GOP must now be wondering whether being on the party's 2012 shortlist is a blessing or a curse.
Looks like Romney the only clean one they got left! Bring him on!
Now it is the likes of you and Pamela, false persons with false pedigrees, who are supporting The One who is trying to bring those same said failed theories of communism and socialism to America.
Oh, Thomass, Thomass, your jealousy at being a nothing , is eating you up! Such low low self esteem !
And there is nothing wrong with socialism, YOU enjoy it every single day, given to you by Democrats over the years! Shall I post "A Day in the Life of Joe Republican" again to remind you what you enjoy because of Dems?? Maybe just a list:
Just to name a few....
Social Security
FDIC
FMLA
ADA
Space Program
Interstate Highways
Women’s Right to vote
Peace Corp
Head State
Environmental laws
Food & Drug safety
Air and water safety
Nat’l Weather service
GI bill
Labor Laws: 40 hr workweek, child labor laws, overtime pay, unions, workers comp, unemployment insurance
Now read this little article, and then shut your big yapper. You are a small little man, with a very limited understanding of Politics and party platforms! You are one of the sheeple that the Repugs count on with their lies.
What’s so bad about socialism?
This month’s proposed bail-out of Wall Street financial institutions has gotten me thinking about socialism — in particular, the knee-jerk reaction that some conservative Americans express whenever the word is mentioned. They say, “Oh, we can’t have nationalized healthcare because that would be socialism,” as if the word alone makes the argument self-evident. But here’s my question: if socialism is so bad, then why don’t conservatives complain about the many socialized institutions that seem to work just fine and that we all take for granted? For example, our nation’s various police and fire departments are all socialized institutions, but we don’t hear conservatives screaming about making those into private industries (notwithstanding wealthy conservatives who live in gated communities with private security guards). Likewise, our nation’s judiciaries (both criminal and civil) are socialized, but we don’t hear conservatives calling for private funding of judges.
So, given that conservatives consider socialism OK in some situations, but not in others, what, for them, distinguishes “good” socialism from “bad” socialism? Here’s my theory: conservatives don’t mind having everyone share the cost of things such as police, fire, judges, etc., because conservatives tend to be people with wealth and power…and people with wealth and power tend to own more assets than people without wealth and power. And what better way is there to protect those assets against loss (fire, theft, fraud, etc.) than by making everyone share the cost of things like police, fire, courts, etc.? Of course, not all conservatives are wealthy and powerful, and not all wealthy or powerful people are conservatives, but I’m talking here about conservatives who unquestioningly accept socialism in some contexts, while blindly rejecting it in others. I suspect these people realize (consciously or subconsciously) that, for them personally, socialized cops are good but socialized doctors are not. They’re content to let their neighbors help pay for the police that protect their mansion, but why should they help pay for their neighbor’s broken leg?
So, what about public schools? Well, not all schools are funded by the public; only grades K-12. Why? Well, people with wealth and power have, historically, been the people who own the businesses in America, and they need a literate workforce. Not a curious, college-educated, authority-questioning workforce, just a literate one. So, it makes a lot of sense to them to have the public provide that workforce, thereby saving them the cost of teaching their potential employees to read and write. This is one reason why so many conservatives push for things such as standardized testing and “no child left behind”: they don’t want to get stuck with the burden of educating an illiterate workforce. It’s also one reason why they push for things such as school vouchers and (Christian) prayer in school: the belief that morality is just as important as literacy and that America’s moral values are (or should be) based on the Bible. Likewise, they see no reason to help pay for curious, authority-questioning kids to attend college; to the contrary, the less that access to college is based on intellectual merit and the more it is based on, say, a family’s wealth, the more likely that smart, poor kids can be hired for low wages and that the kids of wealthy families can go to college (and eventually inherit the levers of wealth and power).
So, with reference to the title of this post — “what’s so bad about socialism” — the answer is that there isn’t necessarily anything inherently bad about socialism; society’s movers and shakers have simply disparaged the term in situations whenever it benefits them to do so.
Indeed, let’s compare nominally “capitalist” America to some nominally “socialist” countries in Europe. Countries such as Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, etc., have much higher income taxes, much higher gasoline prices, nationalized healthcare, nationalized universities, shorter work weeks, longer vacations…and they still have a stronger currency, a healthier population, fewer people in prison (per capita), fewer violent crimes (per capita) and a far smaller military (per capita). All of which leaves me with a question I’m going to leave with you: what’s so good about American-style capitalism?
may bbl, Dems. Things to do today.........
Enjoy this First Independence Day since Bush and his Evil Empire left office and we are REALLY Free and Independent !!!
Morning Pam,
I would like to see all the fine men and women who died in WWII brought back. The suffering that was inflicted on this nation starting in 1919 when the republicans took power in Washington is the most egregious crime ever to strike humanity. It was all preventable.
In 1919 the republicans took control of the US government and their stupid policies and utter arrogance led us on the path to the Great Republican Depression of 1929 and World War II.
It is clear that they brought on the Great Republican Depression of 1929. What is not so clear is that their depression set the stage for Adolf Hitler to take power and try to take over the world.
This they directly brought on by not joining the League of Nations in 1919. Furthermore, during the 1920's they reduced our military to almost zero.
The republicans are the ones who chose to reduce our military and destroy our weapons after the war to end all wars. There was no more money to be made by the military industrial complex so they let it deteriorate. This in turn emboldened Adolf, Musolini and Tojo.
These were two decades that shall live in infamy never to be forgotten by the good people of the United States of America.
STUPID ASS REPUBLICAN "LEADERSHIP" LED US INTO THIS CALAMITY AND NOW WE ARE IN ANOTHER ECONOMIC AND MILITARY CALAMITY BROUGHT ON BY RAYGUN THE THE BUSH CRIME FAMILY AND THE CHENEY CRIME FAMILY.
NEVER FORGET THE GOOD MEN AND WOMEN REPUBLICAN GREED, ARROGANCE AND STUPIDITY HAVE BROUGHT US.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEFER FORGET ON THIS OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY. WE WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT THE REPUBLICANS DID TO AMERICA. THEY WILL BE PERMANENTLY EXCISED FROM POLITICS.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
