In an "exclusive", The Brad Blog is reporting that Alaskan reporter, Shannyn Moore, is now saying that federal indictments in the "iceberg scandal" may soon break "concerning use of Wasilla Sport Complex building material for Palin's home..."
I believe this was mentioned during the campaign and now it does appear that there was fire behind the smoke.

Okay, I've now been able to get independent information from multiple sources that all of this precedes what are said to be possible federal indictments against Palin, concerning an embezzlement scandal related to the building of Palin's house and the Wasilla Sports Complex built during her tenure as Mayor. Both structures, it is said, feature the "same windows, same wood, same products." Federal investigators have been looking into this for some time, and indictments could be imminent, according to the Alaska sources.
The BRAD BLOG has not been able to receive confirm from any federal sources on this. Our information comes from local Alaskans who follow Palin, and who have been keeping an eye on this for some time, while keeping it quiet at the request of federal investigators.
Former guv moose brains palin is a crook.
Good morning, all, and happy 4th of July.
It's raining hard here in Missouri this morning. We're hoping it quits before the parade starts. It's already been postponed a few hours. This is a rarity. While we often have an afternoon thunderstorm this time of year, two or three inches of rain and high temps in the 70's is mighty unusual.
rj,
I think Palin has wanted out ever since McCain wouldn't let her speak at his concession. It's not any fun any longer having to defend ethics charges and pay back money she used on personal family expenses much less continually raise funds that only go to attorney's fees.
I always thought that she would go for the big money after the election instead of run for anything again. She tied her wagon to the Stevens machine and squeaked in that win for the Governor's seat when he and others in the party were under suspicion. She's never particularly impressed me as hard worker...sort of like Fred Thompson.
She rose higher than she should have like George Wallace and is wisely (maybe that is a bad choice of words?) decided to quit and cash in on her celebrity before too much dirt is dug up on her?
I thought her trying to imply that someone was victimizing their baby at that press conference yesterday was about as tacky and desperate as one can get. It even shocked many Republican pundits.
Todd Palin is obviously the force behind the Barbie doll pulling the strings, and he's unhappy with the way "the house that Todd built" is being scrutinized. He'll settle for just being rich the rest of their lives with her doing the Pat Buchanan thing while he races his snowmobile.
I can't see the the DOJ going after them unless there is hard material evidence of kickbacks.
Luckily for us, we haven't seen the last of Palin for political hits, but she's definitely no longer a dangerous threat to our national security. Even if she runs for president, it will probably be third party and only for her own personal glory.
It's been a stranger than usual chapter in Republican history this last month. No matter how much laughs it created it comes on the heels of over 35 years of extreme GOP corruption and abuse of our government.
How California's Fiscal Woes Began: A Crisis 30 Years in the Making
…
By KEVIN O'LEARY
Jul 3
With California a day away from issuing IOUs instead of paying its bills, Gov. Schwarzenegger and the legislature remain at odds over how to close a now $26.3 billion deficit. Schwarzenegger on Thursday ordered a third unpaid furlough day for 235,000 state employees. With its $1.7 trillion economy sputtering and 11.5% unemployment surging, California's difficulty in balancing its budget could affect the national recovery.
But the Golden State's budget problems are hardly new. The seeds of them were planted more than 30 years ago.
They begin with the 1978 property tax revolt and the victory of Proposition 13...
Since the days of Governors Pat Brown and Ronald Reagan, the clash has been between older, predominately Anglo voters, living in the suburbs and rural counties and largely voting Republican, and younger voters, more likely to be Asian or Latino or black or Middle Eastern, who are more prevalent in California's urban centers and hip suburbs and who predominantly support Democrats. As the state's population has become diverse and Anglo voters have seen their own children grow up and leave the public schools, there has been a backlash of the first against the second, as seen in conservative ballot measures such as Proposition 13 (property taxes), Proposition 187 (illegal immigration) and Proposition 8 (gay marriage).
Conservative Anglos, a minority of the state's population as a whole, are vocal and continue to exert power beyond their census numbers because they vote in relatively higher percentages, and because GOP votes are required to pass a budget or enact new taxes under the state's unusual two- thirds majority requirements.

So much incompetence by a minority of too affluent people. Their policies failed so completely and yet they still hold onto them stacking the deck against the rest of us every chance they get. Why does anyone have to have a 2/3 majority to pass something in a democracy? How suicidal can they get?
This is just like their imposing that 60 vote filibuster majority rule in the Senate. It's time to end this abuse of our political system. Enough with these ridiculous and dangerous Republican games.
Good morning fine Dems.
Happy 4th of July.
God bless America with a long chain of Democratic leaders.
oh please, somebody save these numbskull "predictions" made by s* for future taunting of the ignorant trools!
time for me & the carpenter to enjoy our day of yard sales/flea market trooling. we had a blast watching the fireworks display up at the lake last night. (I had the wrong night)
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
— Galatians 5:1
Happy 4th of July! everyone.
Esmeralda,
What predictions are you speaking of?
I would be happy to add them to my library.
I think Palin has wanted out ever since McCain wouldn't let her speak at his concession. It's not any fun any longer having to defend ethics charges and pay back money she used on personal family expenses much less continually raise funds that only go to attorney's fees.
==================================================
Hi Sandy, it's transparent what she is trying to do. She knows that there are many more ethical complaints coming because she is dishonest. She figures that she can avoid tarnishing her image (ha!) even more by leaving office. I think this makes her look like she is running away.
So what are you running from "sister sarah" - could it be your corruption ...
I would like to see all the fine men and women who died in WWII brought back. The suffering that was inflicted on this nation starting in 1919 when the republicans took power in Washington is the most egregious crime ever to strike humanity. It was all preventable.
In 1919 the republicans took control of the US government and their stupid policies and utter arrogance led us on the path to the Great Republican Depression of 1929 and World War II.
It is clear that they brought on the Great Republican Depression of 1929. What is not so clear is that their depression set the stage for Adolf Hitler to take power and try to take over the world.
This they directly brought on by not joining the League of Nations in 1919. Furthermore, during the 1920's they reduced our military to almost zero.
The republicans are the ones who chose to reduce our military and destroy our weapons after the war to end all wars. There was no more money to be made by the military industrial complex so they let it deteriorate. This in turn emboldened Adolf, Musolini and Tojo.
These were two decades that shall live in infamy never to be forgotten by the good people of the United States of America.
STUPID ASS REPUBLICAN "LEADERSHIP" LED US INTO THIS CALAMITY AND NOW WE ARE IN ANOTHER ECONOMIC AND MILITARY CALAMITY BROUGHT ON BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, NIXON, RAYGUN, THE THE BUSH CRIME FAMILY AND THE CHENEY CRIME FAMILY.
NEVER FORGET THE GOOD MEN AND WOMEN REPUBLICAN GREED, ARROGANCE AND STUPIDITY HAVE BROUGHT US.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEFER FORGET ON THIS OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY. WE WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT THE REPUBLICANS DID TO AMERICA. THEY MUST BE PERMANENTLY EXCISED FROM POLITICS.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
NEVER FORGET THE GOOD MEN AND WOMEN REPUBLICAN GREED, ARROGANCE AND STUPIDITY HAVE BROUGHT US.
Should be:
NEVER FORGET THE ASSHOLE MEN AND WOMEN REPUBLICAN GREED, ARROGANCE AND STUPIDITY HAVE BROUGHT US.
NEVER FORGET THE GOOD MEN AND WOMEN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAVE MURDERED IN THEIR ENDLESS WARS FOR PROFIT AND GREED.
afternoon, Dems.
Yup, there is Thomass and Danny boy, sitting here another holiday, with their fingers up their butts, no friends, no family no place to go! Every day, a little shriller, a littler angrier, a little more girlish and immature. sighhhhh, I would feel sorry for them all alone, but there is medicine for what ails them! And Thomassss, I get amused when you pick out a little typo to highlight. I have thought a hundred times of correcting your English usuage, but it is beneath me to point out what an ass you are!
hey Rj, that article on Palin's pending crimes. I have read several articles recently that said there is a bunch of corruption, crimes, and shit coming down the pike on her. Make sure we save it and send it all on the TV networks and newspapers, so that it gets reported far and wide. I shall think about putting flyers onn the windshields of cars in the Fundie church near my house. Just to remind them that there is a lot more to a person than being anti abortion! Who would Jesus vote for???
this is for Tommyass, in case he missed it. Check with your Burd brain friend, see how much he has gotten to like those socialist programs he has in Germany.
Now it is the likes of you and Pamela, false persons with false pedigrees, who are supporting The One who is trying to bring those same said failed theories of communism and socialism to America.
Oh, Thomass, Thomass, your jealousy at being a nothing , is eating you up! Such low low self esteem !
And there is nothing wrong with socialism, YOU enjoy it every single day, given to you by Democrats over the years! Shall I post "A Day in the Life of Joe Republican" again to remind you what you enjoy because of Dems?? Maybe just a list:
Just to name a few....
Social Security
FDIC
FMLA
ADA
Space Program
Interstate Highways
Women’s Right to vote
Peace Corp
Head State
Environmental laws
Food & Drug safety
Air and water safety
Nat’l Weather service
GI bill
Labor Laws: 40 hr workweek, child labor laws, overtime pay, unions, workers comp, unemployment insurance
Now read this little article, and then shut your big yapper. You are a small little man, with a very limited understanding of Politics and party platforms! You are one of the sheeple that the Repugs count on with their lies.
What’s so bad about socialism?
This month’s proposed bail-out of Wall Street financial institutions has gotten me thinking about socialism — in particular, the knee-jerk reaction that some conservative Americans express whenever the word is mentioned. They say, “Oh, we can’t have nationalized healthcare because that would be socialism,” as if the word alone makes the argument self-evident. But here’s my question: if socialism is so bad, then why don’t conservatives complain about the many socialized institutions that seem to work just fine and that we all take for granted? For example, our nation’s various police and fire departments are all socialized institutions, but we don’t hear conservatives screaming about making those into private industries (notwithstanding wealthy conservatives who live in gated communities with private security guards). Likewise, our nation’s judiciaries (both criminal and civil) are socialized, but we don’t hear conservatives calling for private funding of judges.
So, given that conservatives consider socialism OK in some situations, but not in others, what, for them, distinguishes “good” socialism from “bad” socialism? Here’s my theory: conservatives don’t mind having everyone share the cost of things such as police, fire, judges, etc., because conservatives tend to be people with wealth and power…and people with wealth and power tend to own more assets than people without wealth and power. And what better way is there to protect those assets against loss (fire, theft, fraud, etc.) than by making everyone share the cost of things like police, fire, courts, etc.? Of course, not all conservatives are wealthy and powerful, and not all wealthy or powerful people are conservatives, but I’m talking here about conservatives who unquestioningly accept socialism in some contexts, while blindly rejecting it in others. I suspect these people realize (consciously or subconsciously) that, for them personally, socialized cops are good but socialized doctors are not. They’re content to let their neighbors help pay for the police that protect their mansion, but why should they help pay for their neighbor’s broken leg?
So, what about public schools? Well, not all schools are funded by the public; only grades K-12. Why? Well, people with wealth and power have, historically, been the people who own the businesses in America, and they need a literate workforce. Not a curious, college-educated, authority-questioning workforce, just a literate one. So, it makes a lot of sense to them to have the public provide that workforce, thereby saving them the cost of teaching their potential employees to read and write. This is one reason why so many conservatives push for things such as standardized testing and “no child left behind”: they don’t want to get stuck with the burden of educating an illiterate workforce. It’s also one reason why they push for things such as school vouchers and (Christian) prayer in school: the belief that morality is just as important as literacy and that America’s moral values are (or should be) based on the Bible. Likewise, they see no reason to help pay for curious, authority-questioning kids to attend college; to the contrary, the less that access to college is based on intellectual merit and the more it is based on, say, a family’s wealth, the more likely that smart, poor kids can be hired for low wages and that the kids of wealthy families can go to college (and eventually inherit the levers of wealth and power).
So, with reference to the title of this post — “what’s so bad about socialism” — the answer is that there isn’t necessarily anything inherently bad about socialism; society’s movers and shakers have simply disparaged the term in situations whenever it benefits them to do so.
Indeed, let’s compare nominally “capitalist” America to some nominally “socialist” countries in Europe. Countries such as Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, etc., have much higher income taxes, much higher gasoline prices, nationalized healthcare, nationalized universities, shorter work weeks, longer vacations…and they still have a stronger currency, a healthier population, fewer people in prison (per capita), fewer violent crimes (per capita) and a far smaller military (per capita). All of which leaves me with a question I’m going to leave with you: what’s so good about American-style capitalism?
I might remind those who try and compare Palin and Obama leaving their children of this little fact. First of all, Missy Sarah was the MOTHER of a Downs Syndrome child. Do you have ANY idea of the care necessary for one? Secondly, she hauled their little asses all over with her,. to use as Props! yeah, she used that baby to stir up votes!
Obama was the Father, whose children had not only their Mother with them, but when she had to be away, their Grandmother kept them in a stable, secure environment !
You got that now, dumb shit?????????
And I shall lay a bet I shall LONG outlive you. Hate like your's burns out the organs very early. You can take that to the bank, as the saying goes!!!
One more time for you Dems!!
Enjoy this First Independence Day since Bush and his Evil Empire left office and we are REALLY Free and Independent !!!
Free at last, Oh Lordy, we are Free at Last !!!
ttyl, Dems.....
ahahahahahaha, hey chicago if you are still around, NOTICE how the loser, deadbeats are quick to pounce on me, who was on less than 15 minutes, and then You, who came in at 5:00, and try and equate us with them! They feel sheepish and embarassed at having nothing to do all day, but to grind out hatred on an opposing political blog, so they pretend we are like them!!! SAVE IT, sore losers! You think we can't tell how much time YOU put in compared to us? Gawd, how stupid are you guys, anyways???
Here's a message from our President and CIC, for this 4th of July !
Pam --
This weekend, our family will join millions of others in celebrating America. We will enjoy the glow of fireworks, the taste of barbeque, and the company of good friends. As we all celebrate this weekend, let's also remember the remarkable story that led to this day.
Two hundred and thirty-three years ago, our nation was born when a courageous group of patriots pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to the proposition that all of us were created equal.
Our country began as a unique experiment in liberty -- a bold, evolving quest to achieve a more perfect union. And in every generation, another courageous group of patriots has taken us one step closer to fully realizing the dream our founders enshrined on that great day.
Today, all Americans have a hard-fought birthright to a freedom which enables each of us, no matter our views or background, to help set our nation's course. America's greatness has always depended on her citizens embracing that freedom -- and fulfilling the duty that comes with it.
As free people, we must each take the challenges and opportunities that face this nation as our own. As long as some Americans still must struggle, none of us can be fully content. And as America comes ever closer to achieving the perfect Union our founders dreamed, that triumph -- that pride -- belongs to all of us.
So today is a day to reflect on our independence, and the sacrifice of our troops standing in harm's way to preserve and protect it. It is a day to celebrate all that America is. And today is a time to aspire toward all we can still become.
With very best wishes,
President Barack Obama
July 4th, 2009
P.S. -- Our nation's birthday is also an ideal time to consider serving in your local community. You can find many great ideas for service opportunities near you at http://www.serve.gov.
I posted an article earlier, from Palin's local newspaper about her quitting, and the comments on that paper from Alaskan people were interesting. 95% of them are thrilled to tears to have Palin gone !!! Supposed to be so loved in the state? Must be by a few eskimos and snow dogs who don't read the news !
The reich wingers like to say we Dems are Afraid of Palin!!! The truth is, I despise ANY politician who thinks they are going to drive the government by filling it with Religious Dogma! No politician is gonna take this country back 300 years to the pilgrm days, and get away with it. That's not why my relatives came here, and I shall fight this dumb bimbo any way I can----money for opponent, letters to media, knock on doors, phone bank, pass out literature, whatever it takes.
good read, my fellow Agitator Democrats! THIS is why the Repugs are slowly dissapating and disappearing. They swim in the kool aid, and allow a vocal party to tell them which way to turn !
John Hancock's defiance. (Artwork: 1776web.com)
Agitators created America, and it's their feisty spirit and outright rebelliousness that we celebrate on our national holiday.
Are you an agitator? You know, one of those people who won't leave well enough alone, who's always questioning authority and trying to stir things up.
If so, the Powers That Be detest you -- you ... you ... "agitator!" They spit the term out as a pejorative to brand anyone who dares to challenge the established order. "Oh," they scoff, "our people didn't mind living next to that toxic waste dump until those environmental agitators got them upset." Corporate chieftains routinely wail that "our workers were perfectly happy until those union agitators started messing with their minds."
In each case, the message is that America would be a fine country if only we could get rid of those pesky troublemakers who get the hoi polloi agitated about one thing or another.
Bovine excrement. Were it not for agitators, we wouldn't even have an America. The Fourth of July would be just another hot day, we'd be singing "God Save the Queen," and our government officials would be wearing white-powdered wigs.
Agitators created America, and it's their feisty spirit and outright rebelliousness that we celebrate on our national holiday. I don't merely refer to the Founders, either. Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, James Madison, Ben Franklin and the rest certainly were derring-do agitators when they wrote the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, creating the framework for a democratic republic. But they didn't actually create much democracy. In the first presidential election, only 4 percent of the people were even eligible to vote. No women allowed, no African Americans, no American Indians and no one who was landless.

And one last one before I leave. This is why I am proud to be a Liberal, much like JFK, and other great men before us:
Over the past several years I've become convinced that the ways we classify political beliefs and ideologies (or perhaps the very definitions themselves) are in dire need of revamping. For instance...
What's a "conservative?" Used to be there was a standard reply to that query, one that included the paeans to "small government, low taxes, laissez-faire" portraits of the federal government. Nowadays, however, when I think of a "conservative," I think of a bizarre hybrid, a "free trader" crossed with a would-be Puritan, whose ideal federal government micromanages the individual's private affairs, but still uses a hands-off approach in dealing with corporatism...
The same could be said of "Republican" -- is there a shorthand descriptor of a Republican today? Aside from the fact that people like me use it as a one-size-fits-all epithet, I cannot think of anything that remains of the old definitions of Republicanism. Certainly there are, as there have always been, different subsets among the whole -- but if you had to distill its essence, how would you describe a "Republican?"
And how about a "Democrat?" What does a Democrat stand for? Is there a quick sound bite that aptly summarises what it means to be a Democrat? ("Not a Republican" seems to be it, nowadays.) How about a "liberal?"
Here are some of the definitions of "liberal" that I'm happy to claim:
LIBERAL:
(n) One who is generous;one who favors greater freedom in political or religious matters.
Liberal suggests one free from prejudice or narrow thinking.
ANT.- stingy, mean, bigoted, or conservative.
lib·er·al adj.
-- Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
-- Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
-- Tending to give freely; generous: a liberal benefactor.
-- Generous in amount; ample: a liberal serving of potatoes.
-- Not strict or literal; loose or approximate: a liberal translation.
-- Showing or characterized by broad-mindedness; "a broad political stance"; "generous and broad sympathies"; "a liberal newspaper"; "tolerant of his opponent's opinions" [syn: broad, large-minded, tolerant]
-- Having political or social views favoring reform and progress
-- Tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition [ant: conservative]
-- Given or giving freely; "was a big tipper"; "the bounteous goodness of God"; "bountiful compliments"; "a freehanded host"; "a handsome allowance"; "Saturday's child is loving and giving"; "a liberal backer of the arts"; "a munificent gift"; "her fond and openhanded grandfather" [syn: big, bighearted, bounteous, bountiful, freehanded, handsome, giving, openhanded]
-- Not literal; "a loose interpretation of what she had been told"; "a free translation of the poem" [syn: free, loose]
Though I am not Christian, I think that some of Jesus Christ's statements could be used to perfectly sum up the concept of "liberalism." Among them should always be included this one, from Matthew 25:31:
"... whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me..."
and
"... whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me."
Or to paraphrase an earlier biblical figure, to be a liberal means you ARE your brother's keeper.
Liberals want to live in a world whose political leaders serve the people, rather than their own interests. We want American politicians to serve their constituents, rather than the corporate interests represented by the lobbying industry, let alone their own selfish aims (which almost always begin with retaining their seats of power, to the exclusion of actually using that power in the manner they ought).
We want to live to see the day when healthcare is a human right, not a pricey privilege or a "benefit." We want to live to see a day when the government regulates corporations, not personal lives. We want to be told the truth by the media and by those the media cover. We are sick of the lies, the spin, the charade. So sick of our default setting perception of anyone in government or power being distrust and cynicism. And so very sick of the wretched, ubiquitous suspicion that the whole system is rigged and there's nothing about it we can do.
We are idealists. That's what liberals are, really; those who see what is and ask, "Why?" and see what isn't and ask "Why not?" Liberals want to see met the basic needs of every human being. Liberals look at a world where one rich man can build an entire city out of gold while millions of poor people go without nutrition, water or medicine for their entire lifetimes -- and ask, "Why is this so? Is this not wrong -- and insane? And why do so many refuse to see it as such?"
In their paradigm, liberals see the utter horror and futility of war and demand that every other possible option be tried before resorting to such a disastrous, destructive action as war. Liberals believe that government exists to serve the people, not the corporate, moneyed interests; that the function of a federal government is to protect and promote the flourishing of every individual citizen, and usually from the very corporate, moneyed interests which currently control virtually everything on this planet...
In their paradigm, liberals believe that people ought to be let alone to live their lives as they see fit, barring any injury to others. Liberals believe in the radical equality of every human being. Liberals believe in the sanctity of privacy, of calling one's body one's own -- of being free, within the parameters of a liberal society, to live without fear of being molested (both literally and figuratively) by others' ideas of how they should be living.
If "I am my brother's keeper" is one side of the liberal coin, "Live and let live" is the other.
So I am heading out for the evening Dems, but never ever let the Reich Wing Greedy, bigoted, stingy, mean , narrow minded Crazies make you think there is anything wrong with being a Liberal and truly being your Brother's Keeper !
Blog ya tomorrow.......
Alaskans are celebrating their 50th anniversary as a state. Palin started the fireworks a day before the official ceremony. But then she didn't ride in the Centennial parade on the 4th in Juneau...even though she is still the Governor and was present? They had the car and banner all ready for her but she was a no show.
That's kind of odd.
Now we all know that Todd doesn't believe in statehood because he’s belonged to that Alaskan Separatist Party for ages. But none of us (including most Republican Alaskans) realized that Sarah cared so little now about any state that isn't in the lower 48.
She was for Alaska before she wasn't? Or is it the other way around? I get confused every time she speaks. I guess she will make another statement soon and confuse us all some more? There is a refrigerator magnet that could give us a clue?
What does all this drama have to do with her and some "higher calling"? So she thinks she's going to become another Joyce Meyers Ministry for the GOP? Mitt Romney might just have to set the Mormon Church after her?
Happy 4th of July, everyone. And Happy Anniversary to Alaska.
It’s truly is a beautiful state which deserves a competent, full-time governor and is going to get one soon...unless Palin changes her mind or forgets to show up for her own retirement party. Or she has another interview with Greta Van Susteren that conflicts?
Good night, everyone.
...With only a few weeks before she steps down on July 26, and Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell takes her place, the governor spent the Fourth of July weekend in the state capital, Juneau, but was only spotted briefly on the sidelines of the city's parade.
She had been invited to ride in a convertible, as she did last year, but never told organizers whether she would attend.
Juneau parade director Jean Sztuk said officials drew up banners in case Palin showed and was willing to take part.
As the last of the parade's clowns and marching bands headed past her, Sztuk gave up on Palin. "What governor wants to be at the end of the parade?" she asked.
Her low-profile and vague Internet messages left mounting questions about her plans for the future shrouded in mystery...
Her constituents, for one, wanted to know, especially in Juneau, where she has struggled to win over residents.
"I think she owes it to Alaskans to tell us why," said state Sen. Dennis Egan, D-Juneau, the son of Alaska's first governor, Bill Egan.
Egan, hosting a 50th anniversary statehood ceremony, said he was disappointed Palin decided not to finish out her term, which was scheduled to end in 2010.
"It's sad she abandoned us at this critical time," said Egan, who was appointed by Palin to an open seat on the last day of the legislative session in April, after a protracted battle with Senate Democrats...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090705/ap_on_re_us/us_palin_resigning
Before the parade passes by...she's got to get some life into her life? Excuse me, but this sounds more like a mid-life crisis. Just ask that other Governor from South Carolina.
Bye.
i can't wait to listen to rush monday and hear him explain how palin's resignation is a brilliant political move....god i love this stuff!
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Morning Esme, If Palin can't take the heat now, what the F*** would she do if she were President and the Iranian President or chavez were calling her bad names? Would she resign then too? The woman is a pansy. NOW she's gonna sue, if MSNBC or Huffington repeat a
story floating around??? Shit---I better be careful posting stories I find all over the place, including the Alaskan Daily News where they all think she is a lunatic, and have since she first got flown out of that burg to enter the National arena.
If she thinks she had it bad before, as VP candidate , just wait until she tries to enter a bigger arena, with that inexperience of her's, her fanatical religious views etc. btw, I have to hunt up that little video of that Religious Witch Doctor performing his cleansing of her soul! That ought to go over real big, the night she declares her candidacy!!! haha
Now tell me seriously----in 2011, 2012, after Obama has been trying to fix all our problems for 2-3 years, Sarah Palin will come in and try to convince an American public that SHE can fix them, when she has been roaming the country giving speechs for the last couple of years??? Give me a freaken break---nobody is that stupid anymore ! She might have had a chance had she stayed in office and was able to show that she had helped Alaska, but now, she thinks she is Ronald Reagan and can charm everybody! What a wacko !!
Morning Gregg,
I just can't make myself listen to Limbaugh, no matter what. It is not him and his sarcasm, it is those ditto heads who call in, who are exactly like the trash that come in here! Not a brain in their heads. Listened to the Republican Party for years, tell them that the Democrats were going to ask them for another dollar and take their little pistols away, and that was all it took, for the sheeple to jump in the koolaid and swim along!!!!
bbiab......
yes pam it does take a certain twisted outlook to find humor in rush's mindless babble but this is a mountain i can climb!
“I have never been a quitter. To leave office before my term is completed is opposed to every instinct in my body. But as president I must put the interests of America first Therefore, I shall resign the presidency effective at noon tomorrow.”
Richard M. Nixon quotes (American 37th US President (1969-74), 1913-1994)
** Fighting the complaints left Sarah and Todd Palin $500,000 in debt.
47Cleveland on July 5, 2009 at 04:54 AM
waaaaa! not enough clothes from the RNC to sell at their yard sale!!!
hurry, Steve! cash in your silver and gold and bail your loverly and talented she-beast out from her current state of affairs!
or maybe she'll go to Faux news in her next career move. hahaha
Good morning, all.
I thought all Republicans were for tort reform? So why is Palin threatening to sue all her critics....like over two thirds of the rest of the Republican Party?
Why does everyone assume that Palin will raise a lot of money for the GOP?
When I was canvassing last fall, I didn't find any affluent, upper class folks who liked her. I can't imagine them donating to an appeal sent by her or attending an affair showcasing her as a speaker unless it was free. They liked the insults she hurled at the opposition but found her personally offensive. Some even offered up (to a Democrat of all people) that they thought she alienated Independents and would do damage to the party.
And we know the teabaggers wouldn't give a dime (if they had one) to anybody including their dying mothers because "hunger is a great incentive".
I think the lovely and talented Sarah hadn't realized before that her success doesn't extend past her celebrity. She can run away from that fact in Alaska by resigning, but what does she do when she has to face it again in the lower 48? It might even be too late for her book to attract many buyers. Would even Faux News want to have her making those strange rambling comments on their outlets?
Life is all about timing and location. Has she waited too long and was she ever really in the right place to begin with? Was that the desperation we saw surfacing in that press conference?
later.
Sept. 9 2009 is the date to watch SCOUS to hear on HILLARYS MOVIE looks like corporate america will be spending lots and lots of money for votes that reflect their needs not that of what the voters need.
hmmmm, nobody around today again, except the trolls. Sad they have no friends nor family.
Here are the 5 cities NOT to buy real estate in. WHY am I not surprised that MN and AZ are 2 of those states? NO WONDER they are so pissed off. Blaming their woes on Obama, when it is their own stupidity.
3) Phoenix
Home prices in Phoenix have fallen 53% from their peak in June 2006, and the 2009 data suggest they’ve got farther to go. In March, prices in Phoenix fell 4.5%.
The Southwest has been one of the hardest-hit regions in the mortgage crisis. The region still faces a glut of recently-built homes.
Minneapolis
Housing prices in Minneapolis fell 6.1% in March, the largest monthly decline of any metro area since data tracking began in 1987.
More than half of all March home sales in Minneapolis were due to foreclosure or short-sale activity, according to the Federal Reserve Board’s Beige Book, which gathers information on regional economic conditions. Foreclosed homes tend to drive prices down because “the bank’s best interest is to get the asset off their books” as quickly as possible, Maitland says.
I wonder if Thomass got thrown out on his ass because he couldn't pay??? Stevie we know, lives in a log cabin he built in the woods, and couldn't get $200 for it if he tried....
the liberals don´t have anything that would even come close to her. ya bunch of heathens.
you bet your ass we don't. We are smarter than the Religius Right. No Theocracy here in our USA! Maybe you can entice her to go and run for PM of Germany! You like her?----you take her. Wonder what the Germans would make of her? hahahahaha They'd laugh their asses off, same as we did.
You guys are so stupid as to think it was liberal bloggers that took her down! Or maybe the media just didn't like her looks!
REMEMBER, freaks, that the McCain/Palin OWN staff started leaking trash about her before the end of the campaign. She thought she was a Diva, a queen. Republican analysts on TV started spouting off from day one, they could not understand McCain gambling on throwing in a Religious nutcase to try and win. She slowly showed herself to be a joke! People stared with wide eyed wonder at her obvious lack of any foreign policy, any smarts, any experience on what a position like President would entail. She was second in line to a 79 year old cancer patient, and nobody, and I mean nobody was about to take that chance, and you can bet your ass no one will next time around, with even less experience.
Obama Administration foreign policy guru and chief idiot Joe Biden just gave the terrorists in Iraq the glimmer of hope they so desperately needed.
Prairie Pundit reported on this from The Washington Post:
and this one just is amusing too. Do you even know who the Prairie Pundit blogspot is, you old fool? He is a Conservative fruitcase, just like you. Check out his blog----ZERO comments to his rants ! Yeah, like we are really going to give credibility to his posts! Get a life.
I'll check back in later on, Dems, to see how your weekends went. A beautiful day here in the Northeast. I had a wonderful day.
Evening all good Dems,
I see the Nazi asshat is here. I wonder why the good German people put up with his shit.
I hope all you good Dems had a great Fourth of July. We saw the Boston fireworks on television in HD and it was spectacular. I think it was the most beautiful I have ever seen.
The fascist asshat MSM has been bitching about the stimulus bill and the high unemployment rate. These people need to grow up. This is a Republican Depression and it will take time to recover.
It takes time to award contracts for projects and it has to be done properly. Bids on one of our stimulus projects will be opened on July 14. I fully expect that, despite the whining by the f**king asshole republicans, we will recover later this year. No thanks to these f**king whiners the stimulus bill should have been larger but the f**king asshole fascist pig republicans hate America and Americans.
Hi Johne,
it is amazing how easily scammed these Repug trolls are. They read an OPINION on a blog ABOUT an article, and they swear it is true.
NOWHERE does the Wash Post article say that Biden gave any terrorists the go ahead. That was the Pundit's little thrown in lie.
ALL Biden did was try and warn them they are now on their own and had better shape up. Shia living with Sunni again, like they did when Hussein was alive. Like he was supposed to say, OH yes we will come running right back in anytime an insurgent starts something? ??? these Repug trolls should go an blog on a blog like this Pundit's. Boy, would he ever love them! heehee
The town that our yard borders is having their fireworks tonight. We used to be able to see them from our yard, but the trees in between have become too tall. I just ran to the store, and they are all sitting in lawn chairs on the parellel street, and hot dog carts, etc. People from my street walking to it,
wanted us to go, but the dogs go nuts from the noise, so will stay and try and calm them down.
Glad to hear your weekend was nice, Johne.
I touched base for a few minutes, but was too busy with family and friends to stay around.
I think the MN troll never sees his daughter now that the court does not order her to go there, and it is so sad on holidays to see him forced to come in here.
Now will head out for the evening.
Take care, Johne.
blog ya tomorrow.
Good evening, all.
Hi, Johne.
Hope you had a good holiday. The community fireworks where great and finished about an hour before the rains started up again last night. Today we attended a cookout. Always interesting to hear what people are talking about.
The prevailing mood seems to be let's hold on tight and look for continued rough times ahead till the nation works its way out of the mess.
There seemed to be far more people at the fireworks than last year. I guess a lot of folks are stay-vacationing. The kids seem happy enough playing together no matter where they are...if they're with family.
Everyone was talking about Michael Jackson and Steve McNair's death. Palin? They didn't seem to care one way or another about her latest antics. Maybe she's pulled one too many outrageous stunts?
Evening Sandy,
This was our first dry day since Friday.
It appears to me that the economy is coming along just fine. We will not throw off the repuke yoke overnight. It has taken 28 years to get into the condition we are in and it will take a few more to get out of it. What really ticks me off is how the right-wing extremists continue to quote raygun and his stupid platitudes. They will never admit that they are morons and that raygun suffered from dementia and the government was run by the bush crime family and the cheney crime family.
Johne,
The average person knows only too well how much trouble our country is in. They don't expect much but would at least like to see us moving on to something dependable.
A universal health coverage plan would give young people something to plan their future around. It would give those who have lost jobs or coverage renewed hope. And for those who are afraid that they may be the next casualty of the Reagan Revolution it's an anchor to hold onto in a stormy sea.
The middle class and working poor want something in return for all that they have been asked to sacrifice in the last few decades. They want it now not a promise that it will come after the Republicans are satisfied.
I wish our Dems would not be so timid in demanding real change. It's time to show the big differences between the two parties instead of pandering to those obstructionists who will never admit there is anything wrong to begin with. I suppose President Obama wants to extend a hand to the other side as the GOP never did to us.
But time is short. The Midterm campaigns begin in earnest by fall. It's time to make a move or settle for less than nothing. We've done that for 30 years now and lost ground with every concession. I personally think he's afraid of success. One so young should never scuttle his dreams just to keep peace.
This fight is about his and my children's/grandchildren's future economic and medical well being. Does he think the advances that came about from the civil rights movement came from compromise? Seize the moment, Mr President.
Gentlemen cry peace, peace. But there can be no peace without hope and the struggle for human dignity must continue.
Good night, all.
Evening Chicago,
Yeh, dumb and dumber are on. The Nazi dumbass was on earlier.
Palin is a complete idiot. That's why she fits so well in the republican party. The stupid bitch thought Africa was a country. She had no clue what the VP does.
Mark my words, she will fade away as time passes. After she is no long in elected office, she becomes just one more stupid republican housewife who lost a beauty contest. Maybe she can make some money playing the flute...
Hey Johne, good to see ya'.
I just scrolled through all the idiot trolls posts. They've proven over and again how stupid they are. It's a waste of time to read their idiotic statements. They've obviously perfected the art of stupid.
Those assholes rove and huckabee were just on CBS badmouthing phalin.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA1
phalin is a non-starter. I wonder what her GPA was in those five colleges, 0.5? She makes Godzilla look like a beauty queen. Those stupid ass glasses are also a riot. She must have all her taste in her aas.
Conservatives taken aback by Palin's decision to resign
Astounding. Risky. Quitter. And that's what fellow conservatives had to say Sunday about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her decision to step down with 18 months left in her term.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/07/05/palin.reaction/index.html
Politically speaking, on a scale of 1-10, she's now a zero.
In the words of Hawk Harrelson (White Sox broadcaster),
"she gone."
Morning Dems,
Wow, stevie boy actually spent a dime on politics? Cheap prick has always just sat back and predicted, never gave a nickel of support to anyone. Save those beer cans you pick up by the road, Stevieboy. Don't waste your money on Palin. they think you are weird enough in Hinckley, believe me!!
Wasn't it the MN troll who used to say if your own State doesn't like or want you, you are a loser?
Well, I posted the ADN editorial the other day, and here is the Juneau (the capitol) one:
Empire editorial: Alaska better off without Sarah Palin
So long, Sarah. It's been an interesting ride, albeit a short one.
Gov. Sarah Palin, during an impromptu news conference Friday, announced she won't seek re-election next year. Of greater surprise, she said she's resigning at the end of the month.
Palin veiled her announcement as something much more noble, but the fact is that she's quitting less than three years into her tenure. And, given her meteoric rise to national political stardom last fall, Alaskans are shocked and appalled by her decision to quit midstream.
We say good for her, however, because it's been nearly a year since the first-term governor has acted like she actually wanted the job. Still unknown, however, is why Palin is calling it quits, though her press office has given numerous reasons for why she isn't. They say:
• It wasn't because Palin can't take the criticism that comes with being an elected official.
• It wasn't because she is planning to run for higher office.
• It wasn't because of bad press and bloggers.
Palin said during her speech Friday - for which the press was given less than two hours notice - she didn't want to become a "lame duck." She also referenced not wanting to waste taxpayer dollars due to what she believes are frivolous ethics complaints against her and members of her administration.
If Palin is considered a lame duck it's by her own making. She engaged in needless disputes with bloggers and members of the press, waged a talk-show battle with David Letterman over a crude joke (was Letterman's comment really the worst we've heard from late-night comedians?), and touted her office's transparency while doing the opposite in practice.
Not only did she hit the self-destruct button, she built the time bomb known as Sarah Palin. We're surprised by the news, but we shouldn't be.
Palin should have waited a few days before announcing her resignation. Instead, she dropped a bombshell just one day before Alaska was to celebrate its 50th anniversary of statehood. Her announcement could have overshadowed the historic significance of the Fourth, but it certainly didn't in Juneau or Douglas, where people were much more concerned about celebrating their state's heritage than about what the "guv" was doing or saying.
Political pundits on both sides say the move is political suicide, and they're right. Palin's aspirations for higher office, assuming that's a goal of hers, is now a moot point. Quitting an elected position, during her first term no less, doesn't lead to higher ground relative to her electability.
Regardless of the real reasons for Palin's resignation, Alaska will be far better off without her. It'll now be up to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell to demonstrate that he'll take the job seriously and that he's up to leading this state during what will be a difficult 18 months ahead.
A word of caution for Parnell: Don't borrow from Palin's playbook and begin your 2010 election bid Aug. 1. To do so would ensure your defeat.

REMEMBER, Repugs. It was NOT Dems nor the media that turned Palin into a Joke! SHE did it every time they let her open her fat mouth! Her OWN McCain/Palin campaign staff, could not stand her Narcissism and Egotistical manner. By the end of the campaign, she really believed it was HER, not McCain that should be President. You got to give it to those Religious Freaks who came out screaming for her-----they sure made her feel like she should be the Leader of the Free World, even if she didn't have a brain in her head.
Her 6-7 years to get through a flunky Journalism course of college tells it all-----this is not a very bright woman, merely one who knows how to work a crowd! I personally am looking forward to her announcement. I am itching to begin work on taking her back down!
I have started my savings for the 2010 and the 2012 elections. You see Thomas, I have my own money, my own checking account and credit cards. Doesn't your wife? Or does she have to ask you for every dime, you cheap prick? Of COURSE you are a Republican, keep women broke, pregnant and in the kitchen! And keep your blinders on as to Facts and Truth---it might make you see that you have been Wrong all these years, and the things that you say other countries envy and stand in line to come here for are for all the things that Democrats gave to America.
You are a very dull witted individual. Stevieboy is mentally ill, YOU are merely dumb!
Now THIS is an interesting survey. The more Environmentally friendly a country is, the happier the people! the US 114th??? Wonder what it will be once we clean up the air and water? All those greenhouse gases make people sick!
SAN JOSE (AFP) - Costa Rica is the happiest place on earth, and one of the most environmentally friendly, according to a new survey by a British non-governmental group.
The New Economics Foundation looked at 143 countries that are home to 99 percent of the world's population and devised an equation that weighed life expectancy and people's happiness against their environmental impact.
By that formula, Costa Rica is the happiest, greenest country in the world, just ahead of the Dominican Republic.
Latin American countries did well in the survey, occupying nine of the top 10 spots.
Australia scored third place, but other major Western nations did poorly, with Britain coming in at 74th place and the United States at 114th.
The New Economics Foundation's measurements found Costa Ricans have a life expectancy of 78.5 years, and 85 percent of the country's residents say they are happy and satisfied with their lives.
Those figures, taken along with the fact that Costa Rica has a small "ecological footprint," combined to push the small nation to the top of the list.

morning Pam,
CBS TV News this morning had a long piece on phalin. They tried their best to make her look like presidential material. They interviewed some republican asshole who wasn't sure she was ready but with 2-1/2 years as governor under her belt it is a good start. She can pick up the foreign affairs experience from her home in wasilla using her binoculars. Maybe she could even see China from there with a powerful telescope.
What a damn laugh. The neocons bitched endlessly about President Obama only being a Senator for a couple of years.
CBS SUCKS!!!!!!!!
SARAH PALIN SUCKS!!!!!!!
On ABC news they had a blurb from phalin. "I have been treated badly but I am going to get on the internet and with other like minded bloggers we will change America." It's pretty obvious she wants to run for president. This loser couldn't run a pie throwing contest let alone the presidency of the US. Give me a break.
The neocon party probably said "we have to go with what we got!!!!! She would probably appoint her husband to be secretary of state since he knows so much about foreign affairs. After all, he can see Russia too.
She would probably appoint his hate America preacher as secretary of HUD.
rep. peter king is an neocon asshole. Who would listen to this SOB? We have to put up with all the palin bullshit the media is screaming about. I am sure we can dig up a bunch of stuff on her too.
And while I am at it, reagan was an asshole too. His asholity will live forever.
Off to work.
Good morning fellow Democrats.

Good morning, all.
Elliot Spitzer has written a book about the lack of "wealth generating" mechanics in this country any longer.
Damned right. The Republicans committed treason by outsourcing whole industries and shipping off our assets to other countries to build them up and tear us down. Then with the TARP they outsourced the recovery overseas, too.
We need to create new industries, technologies, and jobs HERE. In the interim we need to put people to work rebuilding the infrastructure like we did during the First Great Depression. Reagan made sure it fell apart. All we’ve done for 35 years is patch it up.
We need to make higher education available to all our kids, too, so they can compete against countries that make the workers and idea- generating capabilities a top priority. And we need to make sure that venture capital money flows from our banks only to OUR innovators.
The Republicans created only competitors….not any equity within this country.
Those competitors are stronger than us thanks to the GOP. Those countries got the assets that should have been re-invested within our own borders. We are dealing with sub-standard conditions trying to catch up in a rapidly evolving world economy. It’s time to even the playing field again and work to our own advantage.
And it's about time somebody is finally talking about the real problem. We need to build capital HERE.
We can't do it with failed conservative policies that destroyed our economic foundation. Let's go back to REAL capitalism. We must insist that money generated here be re-invested only in America. And we must throw out all multinational corporate interests operating here which don't have any loyalty to American workers or our national security which can only emulate from a strong domestic economy.
Gotta run. Later.
peaceman on July 6, 2009 at 09:41 AM
peaceman,
These treasonous trolls prove everyday they post here that they are multinationals not Americans.
