US Representative Tim Ryan (D-OH), State Senator Ray Miller (D- Columbus) and Representative Robin Belcher (D- Cleveland) held a press conference call today on the economic benefits of the Recovery Act in Ohio. On the call, they discussed the tremendous progress already made throughout Ohio from the Recovery Act which was signed into law earlier this year.
Today's call responds to the many falsehoods spread by Republicans in Ohio and Washington, DC about the success of the Recovery Act both nationally and in state. John Boehner, for example, has falsely claimed no Recovery Act projects had been awarded in Ohio.
The conference call came on the heels of a new offensive against John Boehner and other Republican Congressional Leaders over the economy and the success of the Recovery Act that includes a national television ad and radio ads in Ohio. The effort takes John Boehner to task for supporting the disastrous policies over the past eight years that sank our economy, for opposing the Recovery Act that rescued the economy from catastrophe and for misleading the public about its success in creating and saving jobs and beginning to turn our economy around.
Congressman Tim Ryan
"For Congressman Boehner to say that the stimulus and the recovery act are not working and are not helping anybody is absolutely ridiculous. Talk to the students who are getting this money and this financial aid, talk to the cops who are going to get hired in these communities, talk to these teachers that aren’t going to get laid off. Not just in Youngstown but across the state because of what the stimulus package has done."
State Senator Ray Miller
"Either [Boehner] is grossly uninformed, or he is intentionally misleading his constituents and the American people. It could be a combination of both."
State Representative Robin Belcher
"We have a number of projects here in my county where many jobs have been saved.
When Congressman John Boehner asserts that the stimulus plan is wasteful and ineffective, I as well as my constituents, respectfully disagree. There are jobs in this plan that are working."
Hari Sevugan, Democratic National Committee Press Secretary
"These jobs are being created in his own district, for his own neighbors.
And it seems to us that Congressman Boehner is more interested in and is putting the priorities of his party over the benefit and good jobs for his constituents.
After 8 years of leading the support for the same Bush economic policies that got us into this mess, he broke it and now he refuses to fix it."
