Call 'Em Out: Insurance Lobby

Posted by Jonah on October 15, 2009 at 07:07 PM

After fighting health reform with lies, deceit, and multi-million dollar ad campaigns, the health insurance lobby -- America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) -- recently released a report on the "effects of health reform." Surprise! It's full of flawed claims that reform would increase costs.

Many journalists and experts called the report "deceptive" and "implausible." Even the firm that wrote it now admits they only looked at parts of the health reform plan -- because that's what the insurance lobby paid them to do. It's exactly what we should expect from an industry that's been fighting tooth and nail to kill reform, and is now preparing an all-out assault.

We're not going to take it sitting down. So this week, we're calling out the health insurance lobby.

The lobby has invested millions trying to convince Congress to oppose reform. So this week, we're not simply debunking lies: The best way to Call 'em Out is to cut through the spin and tell our representatives to say "no" to deceitful lobbyists and "yes" to reform.

Soon, health reform will be taken up by the entire House and Senate, and the insurance lobby will take their attacks to a new level. Their lies will grow more extreme -- and it will be more important than ever that our voices are louder than those of the Washington lobbyists.

Call out the health insurance lobby today: http://www.democrats.org/CallOutAHIP

I would like to start off by asked the democrats in office to ask for an educational refund. Because apparently the degree you folks have was not earned. Here are a few things I see wrong with your health reform bill. One, Insisting that everyone has it, do you have stock in the insurance companies and want to drive the price up? As an adult, I can count on one hand how many times I have been to the doctor and have paid for insurance for the last 12. Who is making out here? Not me. My hard earned cash goes to a service I never use, much like my car insurance. Did you ever stop to think that some people do not have health insurance not because they cannot afford it but because they did not want it? You know like cable television. Oh wait bad example; you folks are forcing that too. Second bad idea. Imposing a fine. You guys say we are in an economic crisis yet you want to fine people who struggle to buy the essentials of life right now like food and shelter? The third bad thing is if providing government healthcare means that people on it will be able to have abortions paid for by the insurance is not something that sits well with me. I do not go to church nor am I against abortions. It is a person’s choice to have one or not. Which means I should have the choice to pay for it. And last but not least, Keeping illegal immigrants from getting tax payer paid health care. You say it is too hard for people to obtain a photo id card. That is so far off it is not funny. You just have to provide a birth corticated proving you were born here. So if you want to force people to pay for something they will not use nor want, or pay a fine, or pay for a health service that does not sit well with that persons beliefs or thinking, and pay for illegal immigrants to get health care when you folks have not done anything to fix that problem in an effort to not offend anyone. Then by all mean pass the law and cheer for it while the majority of tax paying law-abiding citizen of this great nation scream out at the top of their lungs against it. Oh yea and one last thing, by taxing the insurance companies to pay for all of this will raise the premiums of those who already have insurance. How else would the insurance companies pay for the tax? Think before you act and use common sense.

Free Thinker, You are overlooking the fact that Health Care is called INSURANCE. You are forced by the State to have auto Insurance, you are forced by a mortgage company to carry Homeowners Insurance, yet would you not carry them if you were not forced to?

I do not want to pay for the medical care of someone who is not responsible enough to carry Health Insurance. If you do not currently use it, then good for you. But accidents have a way of happening, aging has a way of making the body need medicines and care. Perhaps you would like to just wait and pick up a policy on the way to the Hospital? If and When cancer strikes to the tune of hundreds of thousands, who will pay for that? A premature or disabled infant costs are catastrophic. When a person with no insurance, finally wipes out savings, his house, etc, then the taxpayers must take over the care. Insurance rates will go up, as Hospitals and Doctors, Labs, must treat patients for free.

Abortions are NOT to be paid for under the Public Option plan. but even if they were, would you begrudge the teen girl brutally raped who finds herself pregnant, having an abortion covered as medically necessary?
In order to be covered under this public option plan, one must fill out an application and PAY MONEY. Now if an illegal SHOULD show up with a phony SS card and the premium,(unlikely) maybe he will slip through, but if he is paying what's your problem? You are already paying for the use of the ER for those illegals who end up there, but trust me, these people are in HIDING. they do not saunter in for medical care on a whim.

the Prudent man, the Responsible man has no qualms about carrying health insurance for him and his family. Every other country in the world covers their citizens with health coverage. The US is 28th in the world for infant mortality and longevity. It is time to change that.

The problem with the US public right now is, too little knowledge is known about exactly what this plan will be. WAIT to see before you say it is no good.

“shrill.”

Jim Cooper gets his challenger, sort of
By Chas Sisk

Published on October 1, 2009 in Election, National, National News and Politics. Closed Tags: accountability now, daily kos, health care reform, Jim Cooper.
We’re not sure if this was the guy Accountability Now and The Daily Kos have been talking about, (OK, we seriously doubt it is) but we received word last night from a self-described “family man” who dislikes politics that he’s prepared to take on Rep. Jim Cooper in next year’s election.

Eric Pearson, a Donelson resident, says that he will officially enter the race in Januray because he’s concerned with Cooper’s vote on the federal stimulus and the country’s fiscal direction. Public records show Pearson as having previously registered as a Republican (in Florida), but Pearson says he intends to challenge Cooper for the Democratic nomination.

“It’s not just Democrats; it’s Republicans too,” Pearson said. “If they’re going to pass things that are related to Stalin, I’m going to get up there and say something about it.”

Despite being the man behind a Web site and blog called the Democratic Reform Party, Pearson was unaware of the blogosphere war between Cooper’s supporters and commentators unhappy with his stance on the public option for health care. In fact, Pearson said he was against a public option, too.

So there you have it, folks.

Alas, instead of being able to call them out, I have to call out the fact that the page is broken. It will not allow me to fill in the mini-form with my name and zip and such. I'd otherwise be pleased to sign.

While I am here, though, let me be clear that the Democrats NEED to get together and come out with a final bill that includes a robust public option. I also think the timeline on implementation of healthcare reform needs to move waaaay up.

Obama, Blue Dog Democrats and folks like Reid are not only facing waning support within the Democratic base, but from the moderate swing-voters who voted for CHANGE and are not seeing it in healthcare reform or much else.

Many feel the Democrats are not supporting their supporters, who earned them leadership in all three key branches. That support should not be counted on in 2010 - or 2012, unless you deliver. Do something with it.

Prove you have the leadership skills to make things happen for the good in Washington. Healthcare reform will make for a single-issue election for many of us this next time around, but regulation of the financial industry, creating jobs, climate change and creating a green economy, education, the wars, the deficit, and getting big money out of Capital Hill stand out as other vital issues we need change on. They are largely woven together.

There's a lot of talk about money. So let's talk about the trillons of dollars, 2.7 trillion over the next decade, insurance companies will take from premiums but not pay forward for medical care. It's called Medical Cost Ratio in insurance lingo. Otherwise known as profits.

We need a strong public option. We needed it yesterday, but will settle for now. We need Democratic leaders to stand up, insist on it and make it happen.

Imagine the landslides if everyone had healthcare by the next election. Imagine what will happen if it is the same old, same old status quo.

Education & Health i.e. only the basic human-right but , in fact, a milestone objectively as laying Foundation of real development of a Nation. So, currently if any member of US Senate & Congress, and Administration as well; ignores DEMAND & National right of the majority of peoples, in-fact ,those who say 'no' for 'Educational Development' or 'Health Reforms', it’ll be a ‘Historic-Error’ to ‘em-out’ themselves.

Here's callin' out my Congressional Reps: I recently contacted both Sen. Mitch McConnell and Rep. Ed Whitfield, encouraging them to support the health insurance reform efforts that are underway in Congress. Sadly, both indicated their opposition to health insurance reform and state they will do all they can to block current efforts to establish an affordable public insurance option. This is outrageous, since both of them currently receive benefit from a government funded; government-administered single-payer health care, Medicare. (epluribusmedia.net) The American Public Health Association (APHA.org) is the oldest, largest and most diverse organization of public health professionals in the world and has been working to improve public health since 1872. They are the publisher of the American Journal of Public Health and The Nation’s Health newspaper, two well-known and well-respected publications (apha.org. APHA keeps an annual “Congressional Voting Record” which rates Congressmen on their support of health legislation that is in the public interest. According to APHA, Sen. McConnell is rated 0%, indicating an anti-public health voting record. Rep. Whitfield is rated 12 %, also indicating an anti-public health voting record. Yet, both men stated in their letters to me they support health care which is good for their constituents. In truth, they support the wealthy health insurance companies, not their constituents. Do they deserve our votes of confidence? I encourage all their constituents to contact both to urge them to support the people not the insurance industry. Sen. Mitch just today appeared on Fox. Here's what I have to say to him: Interesting....going on Fox and preaching to the choir and the people's best friend, Greta. I, for one, will be doing everything I can to see you are not reelected. You are obviously unable to tell the truth regarding a public option or anything else. By the way...you either receive or are poised to receive benefits from a government run health insurance program....Medicare. The program works pretty well, doesn't it. Why don't you ask the thousands of your constituents who receive it AND NEED IT? Are you going to return your benefits to the federal coffers? Why don't you tell them how you have supported EVERY SINGLE EFFORT to undermine Medicare. You, sir...lie about your concern about your constituents. You are fighting to preserve the insurance companies not for your constituents wellbeing. You silver-tongued devil, you!"

There are 50 million seniors in the U.S. Biggest percentage turnout in elections. The Health Reform bill cuts their Medicare. They will remember this next November when the
Democratic party will lose votes from coast to coast.
Cutting Medicare is the Dems version of suicide bombing.
