DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN TIM KAINE ISSUES STATEMENT ABOUT NOBEL PRIZE COMMITTEE’S AWARDING OF 2009 PEACE PRIZE TO PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

Washington, D.C. - President Obama was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday morning for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tim Kaine issued the following statement:

“The Nobel Committee’s decision to award this year’s Peace Prize to President Obama is an affirmation of the fact that the United States has returned to its longstanding role as a world leader. The President has made a conscious decision from the beginning of his presidency to reinvigorate diplomacy, by talking to our friends and our rivals. Those efforts to bring world leaders together are helping the people of the world to face monumental challenges like nuclear arms proliferation, conflict resolution and climate change.

“With this prize comes a sense of enormous pride, but also an enormous sense of humility about the work that remains if we are to resolve the global problems facing humanity. Democrats will continue to work with President Obama to keep moving America forward, as we continue in earnest to sow peace, progress and understanding around the world.”

This is an immense honor.

The President certainly has impressed the world with his serious demeanor and interest in allying himself with other countries including our former adversaries instead of basing his foreign policy on conceit and confrontation.

The Nobel Committee recognized the same qualities that the vast majority of Americans did last November when they elected him in a landslide to lead us out of Bush's World Depression and two armed conflicts staged without a clear mission or any exit strategy.

Let us always remember that those that lead by example instead of bravado will always have loyal followers and the respect of their enemies as well as their friends. This is a clear message to Iran that the world sides with the United States and this President in his actions to stop nuclear proliferation.

And apparently, the Europeans feel protective of this determined and capable young man and wish him to grow into the leader of the free world which we have been lacking for more than a decade. I applaud their unconventional wisdom in awarding him this Nobel Peace Prize.

President Obama's actions in regards to Russia, the Palestinian/Israeli impasse, and Iran's nuclear stalemate have been swift and decisive. Earnest and prudent men encourage and reward the young who have potential to strive for excellence.

Congratulations, President Obama.

Mr. President, this award is deserved. You have done more in your eight and a half months in office toward establishing world peace than your predecessor did in his entire eight year term. The majority of your nation is proud of you as am I. Well done, Mr. President. Keep up the good work.

Is this a joke?? If not, there will be no living with the Kool Aid Kids. And, I guess now we know why he has delayed the decision on troop deployment.

I'm sitting here scratching my head trying to figure out what the hell he did to get this award?!?

And that further devalues this "prize" in my eyes. It is so lame when someone points out to me, "but he won a Nobel Peace Prize" as in Al Gore, Jimmy Carter... pffft.

I figured the NPP was a load of political junk after Al Bore won a few years back. When Al Bore beat out a lady who saved a sh!tload of Jewish orphans in Nazi Germany by hiding and caring for them in her own house (even her own kids didn't know, lest they slip up), then worked like the devil to locate their surviving family and reunite them after the war ... but hey, documentaries are cool, right? … and had her limbs broken by the Nazis in their failed attempts to get the names of the people who helped her. The "prize" is meaningless anymore.

He was in office all of two weeks when he was nominated. So he was basically nominated because of his campaign promises. WTF? If he won this, I think I deserve a Grammy for how well I sing in the shower, and an Oscar for how well I pretended to like that girl back in High School! It's like giving the Nobel to Miss America because she is for "World Peace." Does anyone have a list of the miracles he performed in the 12 DAYS he had to work with prior to being nominated ? I am really having a problem wrapping my head around this.

The once very distinguished prize has lost all credibility. At least they got the phrasing right..... he must have "won" it, because he sure didn't earn it! When did they start giving the award for "letter of intent"?

Lets not forget the immortal words of peace spoken by the former distinguished terrorist recipient of this Prize. Peace for us means the destruction of Israel. We are preparing for an all-out war, a war which will last for generations ... Yasser Arafat ... elsewhere in the news ... Seismic activity in Scandinavia has been traced to a Northern Cemetery in Stockholm, Sweden where the remains of Alfred Nobel were found madly spinning like a top. ... I'd be ashamed to win a Nobel Peace Prize. What a joke.

Since Obama threw out the first pitch at a baseball game, he'll probably get the Cy Young award as well.

If any president deserved a NPP, Ronald "tear this wall down" Reagan did for ending the cold war. But, Reagan was not a self absorbed, shallow, disingenuous, empty suit with a teleprompter. The whole world thinks the prize is laughable. Check it out. Obama knew it was coming. This is all theatre and politics and it is all about him. He has done nothing with his domestic and foreign policy except further endanger the the United States as we know it and Americans are getting fed up with it. How will this impact 2010 elections? Won't hurt the left ... and don't forget that most of the stimulus money the left-o's are handing out, will hit next year too. Uncle Sugar is buying up lots of votes ... at YOUR expense.

Oh and what exactly did Obama do his first two weeks in office prior to his NPP nomination ~
