Yes, isn't it just too too coincidental that these HACKED email turned up right before the Climate summit!!! hmmmmmm, couldn't be something fishy and illegal going on, could it?
HACKED??? Isn't that illegal by itself? But then these crazed Right wingers have no morals, values, ethics anyways.
Wonder how much money crosses Inhofe's palm, as he is on the Environmental committee?? What a scum bag he is.

Jobless Claims Below 500,000, Durable Orders Slip
Published: Wednesday, 25 Nov 2009 | 8:46 AM ET Text Size By: Reuters
The number of U.S. workers filing new applications for jobless insurance tumbled last week by a surprisingly large amount to the lowest level in more than a year, according to government data Wednesday that gave fresh evidence the battered labor market is improving.
However, a report on durable goods order was disappointing, as new orders for long-lasting U.S. manufactured goods fell unexpectedly in October, according to a separate government report that reinforced views of a gradual economic recovery from the recession.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits slid to a seasonally adjusted 466,000 in the week ended Nov. 21, from a revised 501,000 in the prior week, the Labor Department said.
Seasonal adjustments turned a smaller-than-anticipated unadjusted rise in claims into a drop, a Labor Department economist said.
Meanwhile, the Commerce Department said durable goods orders dropped 0.6 percent after rising by an upwardly revised 2.0 percent in September. New orders in September were previously reported to have increased 1.4 percent.
Analysts polled by Reuters forecast orders rising 0.5 percent in October. Durable goods orders are a leading indicator of manufacturing activity, which in turn provides a good measure for overall business health.
Meanwhile, consumers got back in the buying mood in October as their incomes grew modestly, an encouraging sign for the budding economic recovery.
The Commerce Department reported Wednesday that consumer spending rose a brisk 0.7 percent last month, following a pullback in September when spending plunged by 0.6 percent.
It was the best showing since a big 1.3 percent jump in August when the government's now-defunct Cash for Clunkers programs enticed people to buy cars.
Incomes, the fuel for future spending, rose 0.2 percent for the second straight month.
The rebound in spending shows that consumers — who power 70 percent of national economic actiivty — are managing for now to hold up under the weight of some heavy negative forces.
The fear among Federal Reserve officials and other economists, though, is that those negative forces — rising unemployment and hard to get credit, which makes it difficult to finance big-ticket items like homes, cars and appliances -- will eventutally cause consumers to turn more cautious in their spending in the months ahead, making for a lethargic recovery.
Still, Wednesday's figures seemed to blunt fears that consumers could clam up, sending the country into a "double dip" recession, although there continues to be concern that consumer spending will slow early next year.
The increase in consumer spending in October was bigger than the 0.5 percent rise economists were forecasting. The growth in incomes matched expectations.
With spending outpacing income growth, Americans' personal savings rate — savings as a percentage of after-tax income — dipped to 4.4 percent in October from 4.6 percent in September.
Consumers spent more on costly "durable" manufactured goods — such as cars and appliances — last month. Such spending rose 2.1 percent, compared with a 8.5 percent drop in September. They also boosted spending last month on "nondurables," such as food and clothes, and on services.
Inflation, excluding food and energy, rose 1.4 percent over the past year, well within the Fed's comfort zone.

It is actually scary when you see Stevie nit pick which articles to post on here, because I think in his dark, twisted mind he actually believes them.
I posted a couple of articles the last few days, which said that experts looking at those leaked emails ----SAID THERE WAS NOTHING IN THEM THAT INDICATED ANY FALSIFYING HAD TAKEN PLACE !
Yet, because Stevie cannot find anything good to say about Palin, Republican Party, Replican politicians, Republican health plan, Republican ideas----he has to Grasp and find these little right wing articles to try and disprove global Warming, that Most scientists, experts, NASA, smart people all have to admit is REAL.
Stevie will not look at facts!! OH NO, that would be having to admit he is wrong, and we all know narcissists never admit they are wrong.
For somebody who's whole self esteem is tied up in thinking he is smart----he proves day after day just how stupid he is ! He could never make it out in the real world---only in his little hovel where he has had his MENSA certificate sewn onto his jacket to impress the local hicks, who do not realize they could take the same on-line Lake Woebegoten test and get one too.
192PamB on November 25, 2009 at 09:01 AMTwo dozen scientists issued a report Tuesday arguing that the effects of man-made global warming have intensified in recent years, as controversy has ratcheted up over whether the views of scientists who disagree have been squelched over the past decade.
The 60-page report, prepared by many scientists who helped write a 2007 United Nations study that blamed humans for rising global temperatures, seeks to spur policy makers at the big climate summit in Copenhagen next month to take aggressive action to curb greenhouse-gas emissions.

Climate scientists including Richard Somerville, shown second from right at a 2007 conference in Bali, Indonesia, issued a new report Tuesday on global warming.

Climate Emails Stoke Debate Lawmakers Probe Climate Emails Climate Science and Candor "Science has not stood still, and it is quite clear scientifically that we cannot continue to procrastinate," said Richard Somerville, one of the report's authors and a research professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego.
The report addresses an issue that has become a political hot button: the fact that global average temperatures have fallen since 2005, though the years 2006-08 remain among the hottest on record. The report says that the decade from 1999 to 2008 showed overall warming.
The new report also says that effects of global warming, including melting ice sheets in the Arctic and Antarctica, now approximate the worst-case scenarios foreseen in the 2007 report.
But both that U.N. climate report and climate science in general have come under increased scrutiny in the wake of the release Thursday of documents hacked from the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University in the U.K.
The hacked documents, widely disseminated on the Internet and the subject of intense scrutiny by climate scientists across the spectrum of opinion, portray leading researchers in the human-made global warming camp slamming rivals, pressuring scientific publications and possibly tampering with data subject to Freedom of Information Act requests.

Vote: Do you believe humans are responsible for climate change? Phil Jones, head of the East Anglia Climatic Research Unit, said in a statement Tuesday that he and his colleagues "accept that some of the published emails do not read well." He added that some "were clearly written in the heat of the moment," but that he and his colleagues "are, and have always been, scrupulous" in their scientific work.
One of the scientists who prepared the new report -- and whose emails figured prominently among those hacked -- is Michael Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University. He described the hacking as "unfortunate" and part of a "smear campaign" ahead of the Copenhagen summit.
The documents prompted congressional Republicans to start investigating how the report from the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was prepared, because such reports form the principal foundation for U.S. government action on climate change. That action includes increased regulation by the Environmental Protection Agency and proposed legislation to curb greenhouse-gas emissions.
Sen. James Inhofe (R., Okla.), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and vocal skeptic of man-made global warming, on Tuesday sent letters to several of the scientists involved in the hacked emails, as well as to six federal agencies "notifying them to retain documents related to the release of emails from the Hadley Center's Climate Research Unit."

By Bob Willis
Nov. 25 (Bloomberg) -- The number of Americans filing claims for unemployment benefits fell last week to the lowest level since September 2008 as the economic recovery encourages companies to fire fewer workers.
Initial jobless claims declined to 466,000 in the week ended Nov. 21 from 501,000 a week earlier, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The number of people collecting unemployment insurance dropped in the prior week, while those getting extended payments also declined.
After slashing more than 7 million jobs in the past two years, companies may have little margin to cut further without threatening their capacity to ramp up production as the economy recovers. The government may report next week that employers in November shed the fewest jobs in 20 months.
“It is on an improving trend,” said Julia Coronado, a senior economist at BNP Paribas in New York. “We are steadily seeing a trajectory toward smaller and smaller job losses. It seems we’re still a ways away from positive job growth.”
Separate reports from the Commerce Department showed personal spending rose 0.7 percent in October, more than forecast, while orders for durable goods unexpectedly declined 0.6 percent on lower demand for defense equipment.
Stock-index futures extended gains after the reports. Futures on the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose 0.6 percent to 1,110.0 at 8:51 a.m. in New York.
Claims Forecast
Jobless claims were estimated to decrease to 500,000 from 505,000 initially reported for the prior week, according to the median forecast of 43 economists in a Bloomberg News survey. Estimates ranged from 460,000 to 512,000.
The Labor Department released the data a day earlier than usual because of tomorrow’s Thanksgiving holiday. Last week’s claims were the fewest since 459,000 in the week ended Sept. 13, 2008.
The report showed the four-week moving average of initial claims, a less volatile measure, dropped to 496,500 last week from 513,000 the prior week.
Continuing claims declined by 190,000 in the week ended Nov. 14 to 5.423 million. They were forecast to drop to 5.57 million.
The continuing claims figure does not include the number of Americans receiving extended benefits under federal programs. Today’s report showed the number of people who’ve used up their traditional benefits and are now collecting extended payments fell by 18,253 to 4.18 million in the week ended Nov. 7.
Benefits Extension
President Barack Obama on Nov. 6 signed into law a plan to extend jobless benefits, giving the unemployed as many as 20 additional weeks of assistance.
The economy probably lost 125,000 jobs in November, the least since March 2008, economists surveyed by Bloomberg forecast the Labor Department will report on Dec. 4. The jobless rate probably stayed at a 26-year high of 10.2 percent for a second month, economists forecast.
Today’s report showed the unemployment rate among people eligible for jobless benefits, which tends to track the jobless rate, fell to 4.1 percent in the week ended Nov. 14 from 4.3 percent. The correlation has broken down this year as more people receive extended payments.
Forty-nine states and territories reported a decrease in claims, while four reported an increase. These data are reported with a one-week lag.
Initial jobless claims reflect weekly firings. They have risen as job growth -- measured by the monthly non-farm payrolls report -- has been negative since January 2008

Pamb,
I think Frosty the fool likes to keep harping on the climate change issue for two basic reasons:
1) In his warped little mind, it makes him feel smart, like a scientist. He wants desperately to be smart. Deep down, he knows he's not smart. He thinks he can fool everyone else into believing he is.
2) He cannot be proven wrong during his lifetime. He can claim climate change is a hoax, but unlike all his other predictions on elections and such, climate change will take decades or centuries to play out.
He knows he is not smart, so he knows he is probably wrong on this issue too, but he cna pretend like he is smart like a scientist and we can't prove him wrong any time soon.
Sad little mixed up, insecure man.
By the way, it is nice to see that ALL the troll droppings in the last thread have been wiped out.
It's like Dufus, Harporrhoid and Frosty the Fool never existed...
Thanks Jonah. Keep up the good work.
Here's a little example of those Family Value, Moral Repug Party Tea Baggers !!!!
Chicago Tea Party members mock grieving family at town hall
Now this is low, even for bare-knuckle politics.
That's how Chicago reporter Kristen McQueary described the ugly scene which emerged during a Nov. 14 town hall with Rep. Dan Lipinski.
Facing an audience stacked with Tea Party members, Lipinski introduced a family who believe they lost a daughter and unborn grandchild because the girl did not have health insurance. Dan and Midge Hough, of Chicago, said their daughter-in-law Jenny, 24, was not receiving basic prenatal care and fell ill with double pneumonia. She eventually developed septic shock and went into respiratory failure.
"Her baby died in the womb, and Jenny died a few weeks later, leaving behind a husband and a 2-year-old daughter," noted McQueary, writing for The South Town Star.
When Midge Hough took the stage to tell Jenny's tale, the Tea Party crowd began to jeer, mocking her story and accusing her of inventing the sad affair.
"She didn't have to die," Hough said. "The cost of that was $1.5 million, or just a little more than that. You guys are going to absorb the cost of that, is what I'm saying. That's what happens. It's not just Jennifer, it's all of the people that are out there that are sick and don't have insurance."
After another round of cackles from the audience, she retorted: "You can laugh at me. That's okay. I get it. I get it. But I lost two people. I know you think that's funny."
"Catherina Wojtowicz, of Chicago's Mount Greenwood community, an organizer for a Tea Party splinter group, Chicago Tea Party Patriots, falsely claimed that the Houghs fabricated their story," South Town added. "In an e-mail, she called them operatives of President Barack Obama who 'go from event to event and (cry) the same story.'"
The reporter characterized the event as "a low mark in a very dark week."

Chicago, Although the old fool in the woods of MN is old, I believe the terrible effects of global warming will be not only proven soon, but the fact it is from co2 emissions into the atmosphere will also be proven FACTS, before he is put into his very cold dirt bed.
All those foolish little people, who believe somehow that invading and occupying Iraq was in retaliation to terrorists, to 9/11, will have crow sticking out of their pie holes over this one. The freaken lying Tony Blair, Bush's puppet should be hung, too !
US discussed Iraq regime change a month after Bush took office, senior British officials say
The chairman of the British Joint Intelligence Committee in 2001 told investigators Monday that elements of the Bush Administration were pushing for regime change in Iraq in early 2001, months before the 9/11 attacks and two years before President George W. Bush formally announced the Iraq war.
Sir Peter Ricketts, now-Secretary at the Foreign Office, said that US and British officials believed at the time that measures against Iraq were failing: "sanctions, an incentive to lift sanctions if Saddam allowed the United Weapons inspectors to return, and the 'no fly' zones over the north and south of the country."
Ricketts also said that US officials had raised the prospect of regime change in Iraq, asserting that the British weren't supportive of the idea at the time.
"We were conscious that there were other voices in Washington, some of whom were talking about regime change," Ricketts said.
The head of the British Foreign Office's Middle East department, Sir William Patey, told the inquiry that his office was aware of regime change talk from some parts of the Bush Administration shortly after they took office in 2001.

PamB,
I consider it proven fact that Bush/Cheney lied this country into that unnecessary war in Iraq.
There were no WMD's
Iraq was not involved in 9/11 in any way.
Iraq was no threat to the US.
Why are we not investigating this as the Brits are? Why are we not hearing testimony in THIS country. THIS is where all the evidence is. What did Bush/Cheney tell Congress? Lying to Congress is a federal offense. Mr. DICK Cheney seems willing enough to talk about Iraq. Let's put his penguin waddling ass on the stand, under oath and ask him some questions.
I want to see the lying POS squirm...

This is an indication of what remains of the once strong and patriotic political party called the GOP. This party has now been reduced to the skin-heads, racists, and just plain ignorant fools. They are now lead by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity. Liars, fools, and racists.
It is indeed a sad time in history for the GOP. I doubt they can make it back from the brink upon which they stand.
Let's give 'em a little "nudge" in 2010...

Isn't it great that Dufus posted a comment at 12:22 and I posted a comment at 12:22. My comment said that the only thing left in the repelican party was liars, racists and fools. Dufus' comment proved my point better than I ever could have.
Thanks, Dufus, for being the lying racist fool that you are.
Thai Airways' Excess Baggage Charge Costs More Than Seat
Offending Party: Thai Airways
What's at Stake: Hold onto your wallets, people: an overweight-bag charge of $2,200!
The Complaint: Bob Wolfe and his wife were flying from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport to Panama. At the counter, Wolfe was told that his four bags were each about 2 kg or 3 kg over the 32 kg limit, and that he'd have to pay a penalty. (See 50 essential travel tips.)
Wow they are charging AIG bonus penalties. Why they would make flying cargo. I think a company will start flying luggage for people. They can act like FedEx and fly things from airport to airport.
Just think having a baggage service like a car rental service in an airport, or car rental companies being sent luggage ahead of time to be there inside a rental car,
How many of the unemployed are excited about the 466,000 initial claims number this week? This is still more initial claims filed than there were filed 14 months ago in September 2008.
While the drop in initial claims is significant, it will only provide a purely psychological effect on the market. The 466,000 new claims is still historically high given that in the previous recession new claims peaked at 517,000 and within a month fell to 428,000.
The labor market needs claims to fall below 400,000 before it sees a significant effect on the unemployment numbers. While it's not known what type of jobs the workers are finding, it is a very encouraging sign that firms are beginning to hire new workers. However, if the jobs turn out to be mostly temporary holiday staffing, these workers may again file for unemployment in January. Many economists associate the decline in continuing claims to have been almost completely due to workers running out of unemployment insurance.
If you are one of those unemployed do you really care who is to blame? If there is not a massive turnaround in the jobless numbers by the middle of next year will you still try and pump sunshine? What is being done to create jobs?

You should care who is to blame. How else do you keep this from happening again. You should want everyone to understand how this country got to this point. YOu should want the country to understand that the trickle-down economic policies of the Bush administration led to this mess. Just as the Raygun trickle-down economic policies led to a mess and huge deficits. Unless you want this country to keep repeating the same stupid mistakes, you should want to know who is to blame and why.

Amen Chicago!The ignorant losers!
Big difference between trying to discover LIES and DECEIT of a candidate for VP or the USA, and those trying to discredit an organization. STILL nothing proven by those HACKED emails on global warming. I think I will wait to see what the REAL authorities say:
"The internet activist group 'anonymous', famed for its exposure of unethical behavior by the Scientology cult, has now gone after the Alaskan governor and republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
At around midnight last night the group gained access to governor Palin's email account ... and handed over the contents to the government sunshine site Wikileaks.org.
Governor Palin has come under media criticism in the past week for using pseudo-private email accounts to avoid Alaskan freedom of information laws.
While the emails released so far reveal little, the list of correspondence appears to re-enforce the criticism that Palin is mixing governmental and personal affairs.
Mother Jones ties the exposure to Palin's efforts to keep her emails from subpoena:
So, you know those Yahoo accounts Sarah Palin was using to keep her official business safe from subpoenas? Turns out they're not so safe after all. Palin's Yahoo accounts (gov.palin@yahoo.com and gov.sarah@yahoo.com) were successfully hacked last night ... Since then, the accounts have been deleted, which could be considered destruction of evidence if a court chose to pursue it.
AND PEOPLE THINK THIS POS COULD BE POTUS????
NOT HARDLY !!!
NOT VERY GOOD NUMBERS FOR A BIMBO WHO THINKS SHE COULD BE PRESIDENT !!!
Palin News Is Top Story For Only Two Percent Of Public, According To New Study
The media is drastically overplaying former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's influence on the national political conversation, suggests a new study of the public's news-watching patterns.
The Pew Research Center released a public opinion survey on Wednesday showing that, of the recent news stories people followed most closely, the one-time vice presidential candidate and her book tour have garnered very little sustained interest.
Only two percent of respondents said that news of Palin and her new book, "Going Rogue," was the story they followed "most closely" this past week. Only ten percent said they were following it "very closely." Compare that to the 41 percent who said that the health care reform debate was their top story and 18 percent who said the same about the swine flu epidemic.
Pushing the point a bit further, Pew discovered that: "Most Americans (52%) say they have been hearing too much about Palin, while 26% say they have been hearing the right amount and 13% say they have been hearing too little about her. Far more say they are hearing too much about Palin now than in July, after her surprise resignation as Alaska's governor (38%)."
The findings reflect just how far apart the public and the press are when it comes to news coverage. Certainly there seems to be a greater appetite out there for substantive reporting on health care -- as well as less interest in wall-to-wall Palin coverage -- than conventional wisdom dictates.
Chicago, don't let Thomasss fool you----deleting his bullshit posts bothers the hell out of him, his Ego hates rejection of any kind. (wonder how he feels when his wife pretends she is asleep when he rolls into bed at night, after hourse of posting hate?) Lie away, Thomassss, it is all you know.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) will speak at the first-ever National Tea Party Convention this upcoming February.
The announcement of plans for the conservative lawmaker to attend the Tennessee event came from Tea Party organizer Sherry Phillips via Twitter Tuesday.
Bachmann, who has emerged as a champion of the Tea Party movement, will join ex-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin at the convention for the "purpose of networking and supporting the movements' multiple organizations principle goals." Palin will be the "special keynote speaker" at the event, which is taking place at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee.
"Press will be allowed in a designated section of the lobby of the convention only and will not be allowed inside the convention," reports the Nashville Post. "There will be no media allowed for the banquet with Sarah Palin."
Tickets to attend the February 4-6 "private event" can be purchased for $549. The steep price tag does not include hotel lodging, which starts at $436.99 for a three-night package. The Washington Independent reported that just 160 of the hotel's 2,881 rooms were still available as of Wednesday morning.
bwhahahahahahahahahahahaa, When you have only 1000 people showing up for Palin----WHO do they think they are going to garner for this charade???????
Good afternoon, DEMS!

Why are we not investigating this as the Brits are? Why are we not hearing testimony in THIS country.

NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies rated October 2009 as the 2nd warmest October on record, falling 0.06°C short of the record set in 2005, while the UK HADCRUT3 data set rated October the 7th warmest (this data set does not include most of the Arctic, Antarctic, and Africa, where there are few land stations). NOAA rated the year-to-date period, January - October 2009, as the fifth warmest such period on record. South Australia experienced their first heatwave of the year and recorded soaring heat that broke the records of 1887 with 8 days after each other that exeeded 35°C from Sunday 8 November to Sunday 15 November
This was also the first heatwave to hit Australia ever in Spring. Heat records were broken at more regions as well.
According to the Australian government
"The extreme heat event was the result of a near stationary weather pattern with a high pressure cell in the Tasman Sea directing hot dry continental winds across the state. El Nino events, such as the one currently in the Pacific, usually result in increased temperatures over Australia, so this, as well as the observed long term increases in mean temperatures across South Australia in recent decades, are contributing to the record heat in this event."
"The criteria for heatwaves in Adelaide is; “5 consecutive days with maximum temperatures of 35°C or more, or 3 days of 40°C or more”. Prior to this event the most days over 35°C consecutively in November for Adelaide had been 4 days in 1894.
The average maximum temperature for Adelaide over the first 15 days of November was 33.6°C. This is more than 8°C higher than the November maximum temperature average for Adelaide of 24.9°C.
A number of regional centres around South Australia also experienced record runs of hot days.

Global Warming Not A Hoax: Claims Climate Scientists
November 25th, 2009 - 6:46 pm ICT by GD -

Nov. 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Global warming emails that were hacked by some cyber criminals from the server of the East Anglia University has created a controversy in the recent days. Government representatives demanded neutral investigation of the case so that unbiased report of this email hacking comes to the surface. Hacking of emails has not only raised questions on the security of the emails but also have created speculations on some of the reports regarding the global warming issues. The emails that were circulated on the internet identified some facts related to global warming as a hoax, allegedly sources.
According to sources, Senator James Inhofe has criticized the scientists of Climate Research Unit after the emails and other documents related to global warming surfaced on the internet. Sources stated that the Senator has also threatened climate scientists for investigation. In his statement to the media, he said, “…if nothing happens in the next seven days when we go back into session a week from today that would change this situation, I will call for an investigation.”
Though the online circulation of the documents and messages from Climate Research Center has raised several controversies regarding the global warming issues, scientists who are the advocates of the issue, rejected the claims and said that Global warming is not a hoax. Amid the controversies and criticisms related to global warming, on Tuesday, climate scientists have released new reports related to global warming and have named it as “Copenhagen Diagnosis”. They are making necessary preparations to attend and make the ‘climate conference’ in Copenhagen a success.
Thomassss, Since when have you been invited to ANY family gathering? Your a** will be on this blog all day and night tomorrow you unwanted loser piece of crap,
You can bet big time, Peaceman, that ole Thomass will climb on his little twirley computer chair tomorrow morning, and be there till his wife takes his TV turkey dinner out of the oven, then back on through the evening. Same with Dufus and Stevieboy. And of course, they don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Germany, so the German will be here periodically.
These are sure not the kind of men (and I use the term lightly), that their families want around.
WELL-----it IS Turkey day, so somehow so fitting for them to be here all day !
Watch Christmas Eve and Christmas day, too. GUESS WHO will be here again !!!
Makes one wonder what the record previous to 2005 was and when?
Oh yes, those thermometers they used in previous centuries as well as the old farmers who kept the records were sooooo accurate too!
PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS, THOMASSS AND TRY AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IS BEING SAID ! YOU AND DUFUS BEGINNING TO LOOK LIKE BROTHERS !!!
Believe me, no one leaves hungry.
all that vomit in the back of their throats, trying to ignore your Radical right wing remarks, your attempts at humor, you little racist digs, and gay jokes!
The few deadbeats who do have to come, must hurridly leave early, because last couple of years, you were on here almost all day long !
Maybe this year, invite Stevieboy, so he does not have to go to the Church food kitchen. Of course explaining where you know him from will be a tough one ! Will sure keep the dinner moving quickly !
Record high November temps in Canada and Australia - it's GLOBAL warming
By PAMELA KEITH, Sun Media
Last Updated: 21st November 2009
“There’s still 10 days left, but at this point it looks like this
November is much warmer than average,” said Gary Dickensen,
meteorologist for Environment Canada.
Two previous records were shattered earlier this week when
temperatures reached 14 C on Monday, breaking the old record of 10.9 C
set in 2001.
Temperatures climbed even higher Tuesday to 17 C, breaking the 1976
record of 15.6 C.

Melbourne swelters through warmest November night on record
THOMAS HUNTER

"A lot of places through Victoria and south east Australia are running
two to even four degrees above previous records for November
averages," he said.
"Melbourne is running a full two degrees above the previous hottest
start to November.
"That's quite unprecedented and it's the same story unfolding across
the state . . . Bendigo is running four degrees above the previous
record, and Mildura averaging 35 degrees this month so far, which is
four degrees above the hottest average.
"Generally when you break records like these you break them .1 or .2
of a degree. But we're seeing we're two, three or even four degrees
above previous records.

TO BE IN IRAQ DODGING BULLETS AND KILLING PEOPLE WHO WOULD BE HERE IN THE UNITED STATES KILLING US.
NOW LITTLE THOMASSSSSS, DID YOU MISS THE NEWS? THOSE WHO CAME TO THE USA TO KILL US, WERE FROM SAUDI ARABIA, NOT IRAQ. THERE WERE NO ALQAEDA IN IRAQ, UNTIL BUSH INVITED THEM THERE AFTER HE INVADED !
Don't you worry, litte Thomassss, we big Brave Democrats will take care of you and not let any big bad men slit your throat !!!!! hahahahaha
"US discussed Iraq regime change a month after Bush took office, senior British officials say"
They had been discussing regime change for a long time and probably prior to the Bush regime. Saddam actually had been a threat to the western world for a long time. Saddam represented the possibility of a united Arab front.
Over and above that, it would be rational to believe that efforts were being made to restore peace and harmony in the middle east as a whole.
But that is not the goal. The goal is chaos and disunity amongst the Muslim countries and the Arab world as a whole. Our mission, as the leader of the "free" world, both from a military standpoint and financially, is to incite the riot.
There is no mission for peace or goal for unity. We are there to create chaos, period. the flashpoints will change as will the targeted countries.
It's what we do. No sense bitchin about it anymore.
"the evidence of global frickin warmin is based on crap for evidence"
Well done! It actually is. Did you know that the methane gas created by the cattle industry is responsible for the biggest threat to the ozone layer. The ozone layer is what protects us from being torched.
And permafrost? Huge area's have been exposed due to the rise in temperatures and these bogs of shit are also generating methane which of course affects the ozone layer.
Most of that BS from the 1970s can be traced to that 1 Newsweek article, and the "science editor" eventually admitted that he NEVER read the scientist's report, but just took the most alarmist sentences out of it (out of context, and without the caveat "DON'T USE THIS TO PREDICT ANYTHING!") and wrote his cover story based on that. He didn't last there too much longer.
Here is a debunking site for most of SockPuppet's "cites" where they take the claims and source them and compare those claims to the actual data.
Miscellaneous, not from Science Journals

Flat Earth Consensus
Common Arguments from Skeptics
On a related note many people use the global cooling myth to debunk the scientific consensus. The problem with this tactic is that global cooling was never predicted in peer review journals. If you want to know what the leading scientists were thinking at the time you should read the National Academy of Science's reports. The 1975 edition states:Unfortunately, we do not have a good quantitative understanding of our climate machine and what determines it's course. Without this fundamental understanding, it does not seem possible to predict climate-neither in short-term variations nor in any in its larger long-term changes. NAS: "Understanding Climatic Change, A Program for action" ISBN# 0-309-02323-8Despite this, Newsweek ran a global cooling story that inaccurately portrayed what scientists were thinking. On Sunday, April 2, 2006, George Will writes in the Washington Post that ‘Science magazine (Dec. 10, 1976) warned of "extensive Northern Hemisphere glaciation."’ and ‘"a full-blown 10,000-year ice age" (Science, March 1, 1975)’. The second quote from his article isn’t from Science, but from Science News. What George Will doesn’t understand is that while their names may be very similar neither of these sources is the prestigious peer review journal Science. Despite numerous attempts to debunk this myth by both realclimate.org and analysis of peer review journals that denies these predictions were ever made, these myths still perpetuate via online discussions, major American newspapers, and even the BBC. The situation is so bad that when the Senate Environmental Committee (VIDEO) meets with "key" witnesses on climate change such as fiction writer Michael Crichton these myths about the scientific consensus and even grossly out of context quotes from scientific papers are used to debunk the credibility of the scientific community. The point is global cooling predictions simply didn't occur in peer review journals or in the proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Sometimes what people claim is the scientific consensus isn't a consensus at all.

And then there is THIS little bit chock full of linky goodness, you really need to use somebody other than George Will as your "source", troll:
Leaves "Magnetized" by Air Pollution, Study Finds Richard A. Lovett
for National Geographic News
October 19, 2009
Tree leaves are "magnetized" by air pollution, and the phenomenon may offer a new and inexpensive technique for quickly identifying air-pollution hot spots, scientists say.
The technique, they add, could help city officials plan healthier bike paths, walkways, and running paths.
Vehicle exhaust and other sources of air pollution spew out metallic fragments that then adhere to nearby tree leaves, said study leader Bernie Housen, a geophysicist at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.
Conventional tests for measuring the amounts of these tiny particles are often expensive and time-consuming, Housen said.
"But they are very easily detected using magnetic techniques," he said.
Even "a strong magnet wouldn't [attract] the leaf, but it definitely gives you a detectable signal."
Healthy Commute?
Housen, who bikes to work, was inspired to look for leaves' magnetism when he found out what diesel exhaust from passing buses might be doing to his lungs.
"Particles [from the exhaust] are deeply inhaled into our lungs," he said. "There is growing concern about the health effects of fine-particle exposure."
For example, studies suggest that particulates can cause asthma and scarring of lung tissue and, because of strain on the lungs, can even lead to heart problems.
(Related: "Pollution Can Change Your DNA in 3 Days, Study Suggests.")
Housen's study revealed that leaves plucked from trees along regular bus routes were up to ten times more magnetic than those on quieter streets.
While the finding wasn't exactly a surprise, it could inspire big changes among local governments.
"Up here in Whatcom County, there is only one air-quality monitoring station," Housen said, "so there isn't really any detailed picture on how variable air quality concentration is and what sorts of effects there are as to heavy traffic, et cetera."
With the new technique, "we can pinpoint places that have significantly higher particulate matter."
That information can then be used to help city planners design healthier transportation networks. (See related pictures of plans to make Paris a greener city by 2030.)
"You don't need to use fancy particle collectors," he added in a statement. "You could even have kids collect leaves."
Housen presented his findings Sunday at a meeting of the Geological Society of America, in Portland, Oregon.

Chinese Air Pollution Deadliest in World, Report SaysKevin Holden Platt in Beijing, China
for National Geographic News
July 9, 2007
China, the world's fastest growing economy, has earned another startling superlative: the highest annual incidence of premature deaths triggered by air pollution in the world, according to a new study.
A World Health Organization (WHO) report estimates that diseases triggered by indoor and outdoor air pollution kill 656,000 Chinese citizens each year, and polluted drinking water kills another 95,600. (Related: "China's Pollution Leaving Mountains High and Dry, Study Finds" [March 8, 2007].)
"Air pollution is estimated to cause approximately two million premature deaths worldwide per year," said Michal Krzyzanowski, an air quality adviser at the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
Krzyzanowski worked with WHO to look at costs and casualties of pollution across the globe. He helped the group develop new air quality guidelines that set out global goals to reduce deaths from pollution.
Deadly Air
Damaging air pollutants include sulfur dioxide, particulate matter—a mixture of extremely small particles and water droplets—ozone, and nitrogen dioxide. China accounts for roughly one-third of the global total for these pollutants, according to Krzyzanowski. (See a map of China.)
In neighboring India, air pollution is believed to cause 527,700 fatalities a year. In the United States, premature deaths from toxic air pollutants are estimated at 41,200 annually.
The combustion of fossil fuels—whether to power China's many automobiles, its burgeoning factories, or its expanding megacities—is a primary source of outdoor air pollutants.
The burning of coal or charcoal to heat homes, common throughout China, also produces a range of indoor air pollutants. (Related: "China's Boom Is Bust for Global Environment, Study Warns" [May 16, 2005].)
Air pollution can trigger or worsen a wide spectrum of respiratory and cardiovascular ailments.
WHO's air guidelines warn that pregnant women, the elderly, the sick, and young children are especially susceptible to suffering severe effects from high pollution levels.
The total number of Chinese whose lives are cut short by pollution-triggered diseases aligns closely with the figures that were reportedly left out of a recent World Bank study.
China's State Environmental Protection Agency engineered the removal of the statistics, the Financial Times reported, because the government feared the figures could trigger social unrest.
The World Bank is perceived as a staunch ally to China. The organization has committed roughly 40 billion U.S. dollars, along with expert advice, to projects ranging from rural poverty alleviation to promoting sustainable development.
Yet Internet access to certain World Bank reports on China is now being blocked in Beijing.
An official at the World Bank's headquarters in Washington, D.C.—speaking anonymously for fear of worsening the controversy—said the World Bank is still holding talks with the Chinese government on the final version of the pollution risk report, which is set to be published soon.
"After the [state environmental protection] agency raised questions about our methodology in calculating them, figures on the likely number of deaths per year related to air and water pollution were not included in the draft report—but remain under discussion for the final report," the bank official said.
Reducing Deaths
WHO leaders, meanwhile, say that meeting new targets on clean air, developed in consultation with 80 environmental health experts across the globe, would drastically curtail the number of Chinese pollution deaths.
"The air quality guidelines for the first time address all regions of the world and provide uniform targets for air quality," said WHO's Krzyzanowski.
"These targets are far tougher than the national standards currently applied in many parts of the world—and in some cities would mean reducing current pollution levels by more than three-fold," he added.
Chen Bingheng, a member of the WHO six-country steering committee that developed the new guidelines, said she was recently invited to explain them to leaders of China's environmental protection agency.
Yet Chen, a professor at Fudan University's School of Public Health in Shanghai, added that the guidelines are not legally binding. WHO member states, including China, are free to set their own national standards.
Still, the Chinese capital has a massive incentive to improve air quality for the smog-smothered masses: Beijing pledged to present pristine skies, waterways, and cityscapes during its bid to host the 2008 Olympics.

Taliban leader to Muslims: Continue jihad
Rules out talks with Karzai government, says foreign troops losing war
KABUL (AP)- The Taliban's reclusive leader has ruled out talks with President Hamid Karzai and called on Afghans to break off relations with his "stooge" administration. In a statement Wednesday, Mullah Omar also insisted foreign troops were losing the war in Afghanistan.
His message, issued ahead of the Muslim Eid holiday, came a week after Karzai reached out to the Taliban during his inauguration speech, saying it was important to include in the government former Taliban who were ready to renounce terrorism. The hard-line militia has long refused to negotiate with the Karzai government or join what it considers a puppet administration.
"Ground realities in our beloved country indicate that the invaders are about to escape," Omar said in the message posted on a Web site used by the Taliban and e-mailed to journalists from an address often used to send out his statements.
Omar led the Taliban regime that was toppled by the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, and has not been seen since. Afghan officials claim he is in hiding in Pakistan...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34147517/ns/world_news-south_and_central_asia/
This is why we're in Afghanistan and why we need to stay. Mullah Omar and the Taliban are complicit in the attacks of 11SEP01 and should be brought to justice for such. There should be no negotiations, no amnesty. The Taliban and Al-Qaeda should be arrested or neutralized and we should not stop until that mission is completed.
Where did they all go? Was there a sudden flash of sunlight and all the trolls had to scurry under their bridges?

Yes, Dufus, GLOBAL. Not some backwater corner of Minnesota.
Well, asshole, coming on here and wishing people a happy and safe Holiday is NOT the same as The Felon and his sock puppets "talking" to himself/each other about goat sex, diapers, squirrels, and whatever else pops into his lonely demented mind, ALL DAY AND NIGHT nonstop for 3 friggin' days.
FUTURE HUMANS: Four Ways We May, or May Not, EvolveJames Owen
for National Geographic News
November 24, 2009
Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, published 150 years ago Tuesday, opened the book on our evolutionary past, which has since been traced by scientists back to fossil apes.
Evolution vs. Intelligent Design: 6 Bones of Contention
Oldest Skeleton of Human Ancestor Found
Modern Darwins (National Geographic Magazine)
But where is evolution taking us? Will our descendants hurtle through space as relatively unchanged as the humans on the starship Enterprise? Will they be muscle-bound cyborgs? Or will they chose to digitize their consciousnesses—becoming electronic immortals?
And as odd as the possibilities may seem, it's worth remembering that, 150 years ago, the ape-to-human scenario in On the Origin of Species struck many as nothing so much as monkey business.
PREDICTION ONE
Human Evolution Is Dead
"Because we have evolved, it's natural to imagine we will continue to do so, but I think that's wrong," anthropologist Ian Tattersall of New York's American Museum of Natural History said in an email.
"Everything we know about evolutionary change suggests that genetic innovations are only likely to become fixed in small, isolated populations," he said. For example, Darwin's famous Galápagos finches each evolved from their mainland ancestor to fit a unique habitat on the isolated islands in the Pacific.
Natural selection, as outlined in On the Origin of Species, occurs when a genetic mutation—say, resulting in a spine suited to upright walking—is passed down through generations, because it affords some benefit. Eventually the mutation becomes the norm.
But if populations aren't isolated, crossbreeding makes it much less likely for potentially significant mutations to become established in the gene pool—and that's exactly where we are now, Tattersall said.
"Since the advent of settled life, human populations have expanded enormously. Homo sapiens is densely packed across the Earth, and individuals are unprecedentedly mobile.
"In this situation, the fixation of any meaningful evolutionary novelties in the human population is highly improbable." Tattersall said. "Human beings are just going to have to learn to live with themselves as they are."
Steve Jones, a genetics professor at University College London, put forward a similar scenario during a recent lecture series marking the bicentenary of Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of On the Origin of Species at the University of Cambridge.
The human population will become more alike as races merge, he said, but "Darwin's machine has lost its power."
That's because natural selection—Darwin's "survival of the fittest" concept—is being sidelined in humans, according to Jones.
The fittest will no longer spearhead evolutionary change, because, thanks to medical advances, the weakest also live on and pass down their genes.
When On the Origin of Species was published in 1859, only about half of British children survived to 21. Today that number has swelled to 99 percent.
In developed countries, "the fact that everybody stays alive, at least until they're sexually mature, means ['survival of the fittest' has] got nothing to work with," Jones said. "That part of the Darwinian fuel has gone."
PREDICTION TWO
Humans Will Continue to Evolve
Other scientists see plenty of evidence that human evolution is far from over.
For instance, a study published last month in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggested that women of the future could become shorter and stouter.
A team led by Yale University evolutionary biologist Stephen Stearns found that, due to ovulatory characteristics, shorter, slightly plumper women tend to have more children than their peers. These physical traits are passed on to their offspring, suggesting natural selection in humans is alive and well.
Geoffrey Miller, an evolutionary psychologist at the University of New Mexico, believes Darwinian evolution in humans is actually speeding up. He highlighted sexual selection through mate choice as one key driver.
"You still have powerful mate choice shaping mental traits particularly … traits that are needed to succeed economically and in raising kids," Miller said.
"We're also going to get stronger sexual selection, because the more advanced the technology gets, the greater an effect general intelligence will have on each individual's economic and social success, because as technology gets more complex, you need more intelligence to master it," he said.
"That intelligence results in higher earnings, social status, and sexual attractiveness."
Miller added that artificial selection using genetic technologies will likely accentuate these changes in the future.
"Parents could basically choose which sperm and egg get to meet up to produce a baby based on genetic information about which genes contribute to which physical and mental traits," he said.
"If the rich and powerful keep the artificial-selection technology to themselves, then you could get that kind of split between a kind of upper-class, dominant population and a lower-class, genetically oppressed population," he added.
"But I think it's very likely the new genetic technologies will be widespread in their use, simply because that's more profitable. So I think there will actually be a leveling effect, where both the poor and the rich are going to be able to have the best kids they can genetically.
"You will probably see a rise in average physical attractiveness and health," he added. "You will probably get selection for physical traits that tend to be attractive in both males and females—things like height, muscularity, energy levels."
But "regular" natural selection will also continue to play a major role, Miller believes.
"What you're facing now is a global pathogen pool of viruses and bacteria that get spread around by air travel to every corner of the Earth, and that's going to increase," he said.
"We're going to get a lot more epidemics," Miller added. "That will increase the importance of the genetic immune system in human survival"—and result in a human species with stronger immune systems, he speculated.
(Meet the "other Darwin" in National Geographic magazine.)
PREDICTION THREE
Humans to Achieve Electronic Immortality
A philosophy known as transhumanism sees humans taking charge of their evolution and transcending their biological limitations via technology.
In essence, the old-fashioned evolution of On the Origin of Species may be beside the point: The future may belong to unnatural selection.
Nick Bostrom, director of the Future of Humanity Institute at the University of Oxford, said Darwinian evolution "is happening on a very slow time scale now relative to other things that are leading to changes in the human condition"—cloning, genetic enhancement, robotics, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology, for starters.
Transhumanism raises a spectacular array of possibilities, from supersoldiers and new breeds of athletes to immortal beings who, having had their brains scanned atom by atom, transfer their minds to computers.
In addition to living forever, "uploaded" beings would be able to "travel at the speed of light as an information pattern," download themselves into robots for the occasional stroll through the real world, think faster when running on advanced operating systems, and cut their food budget down to zero, Bostrom imagines in his paper "The Transhumanist FAQ," available on the Humanity+ Web site.
If that were to happen, a new type of evolution would emerge, Bostrom said.
"Evolutionary selection could occur in a population of uploads or artificial intelligence just as much as it could in a population of biological organisms," he told National Geographic News. "In fact, it might operate much faster there, because artificial intellects could reproduce much faster."
Whereas the current human generational cycle takes some 20 years, a digitalized individual could replicate themselves in seconds or minutes, Bostrom said.
Of course copying yourself isn't without complications, Bostrom acknowledges.
"Which one of them is you?" he writes. "Who owns your property? Who is married to your spouse?"
(Related: "Darwin Devotees Make 'Father of Evolution' Facebook Superstar.")
PREDICTION FOUR
New Era of Evolution Awaits on Off-World Colonies?
"Some major new isolating mechanism" would be needed for a new human species to arise, according to John Hawks, an anthropologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Despite up to 30,000 years of partial isolation among populations in places such as Australia and Papua New Guinea, human speciation did not occur, he noted.
But if, in the far distant future, habitable planets beyond our solar system were colonized by Earth migrants, that could provide the necessary isolation for new human species to evolve.
"If we had spacefaring people who went on one-way voyages to distant stars, that might be enough to trigger speciation," Hawks said.
But, he added, "if you think about it, a small group of people went on a one-way voyage to [the Americas] 14,000 years ago, and then when new people [Europeans] showed up 500 years ago, they were still the same species."
Six Degrees and Rising Friday,20 November 2009 Trevor Williams
Scientists and newspaper headlines recently announced the World was on course for a catastrophic 6°C rise in temperature. This 6°C rise, which is a predicted average World temperature increase over the next century, with more extreme changes expected for the north and south poles, is an irreversible planet-wide disaster. Many parts of the Earth will become unsuitable for human or animal existence.
The findings were recently presented in a Nature Geoscience article, from The School of Environment Sciences, University of East Anglia and backed by a slew of prominent researchers. The consequences of global temperatures rising is also the subject of an amazing book by Mark Lynas - Six Degrees: Our Future on a Hotter Planet.
The simple fact of the matter is that since 2000, carbon dioxide has risen by 3% per year, mostly due to the enormous growth in the Chinese economy, driven by worldwide insatiable consumption and population growth. In contrast, carbon dioxide growth was 1% per year between 1990-2000.
Most knowledgeable scientists believe 2°C is the limit of increase. Scientists, along with much of the citizen population, see Copenhagen as the last chance to stabilize emissions and ‘hopefully’ avoid exceeding a 2°C rise. As the temperature increases, carbon sinks, oceans, forests and soils, can no longer absorb so much carbon, leaving more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to trap the sun’s heat and raise global atmospheric, ocean and land temperatures. This will lead to rampant arctic ice, glacier and Greenland ice sheet melting, and further heat absorption by the ocean and land exposed underneath the rapidly disappearing, and highly reflective snow and ice.
The fear is that we have already reached the ‘tipping point’. Whereas, normally 40% of carbon dioxide remained in the atmosphere over a year, now there is up to 45% remaining - showing that the sinks are failing or other mechanisms are actually releasing carbon dioxide.
So, as you stick your head in the sand and think that a little bit of warm weather never hurt anyone, let’s look at the reality. Think of the planet as your body and let’s see what happens to you when you experience an average increase of 6°C and what will happen to the planet as its temperature rises too. This isn’t to say that your body temperature will rise each time that Earth’s does, but it may help you relate to the trauma Gaia will experience.
Temperatures RisingYou: 37°C (98.6F) - Normal body temperature (which varies between about 36.1-37.5°C (96.8-99.5F) over a daily cycle.
Earth: The 2007 global average was 14.73 °C (58.5F), the second warmest year on record. Northern hemisphere average was 15.04 °C (59.1F) – the hottest temperature since record keeping began in 1880. This is 1°C hotter than the 1951–80 average. Global average temperature rose from 14.02°C in the 1970s to 14.26 °C in the 1980s and 14.40°C in the 1990s, according to NASA Goddard data. Over the last 8 years the global temperature has been 14.64°C. Right now over 1 billion people lack adequate water supplies, there are famines and droughts, while animal and plant species are under threat of extinction or extreme stress, and severe, unpredictable storms are occurring with increasing frequency. So the Earth isn’t particularly healthy right now, and is in no shape to deal with further heat stress.
You: +1°C: 38°C (100.4°F) - Sweating, feeling very uncomfortable, slightly hungry.
Earth: +1°C: 14.7°C, taking 13.7°C as the 1951-1980 global average temperature. The extra degree just makes life a bit more uncomfortable, more ice melting, increased fury in storms, noticeable changes in seasonal weather patterns that affect wildlife and crops, more droughts.
You: +2°C: 39°C (102.2°F). Severe sweating, feeling flushed and very hot. You may be experiencing a fast heart rate, breathlessness and exhaustion. Children and people with epilepsy may be very likely to get convulsions at this point.
Earth: +2°C: 15.7°C. More of the same, but becoming increasingly deadly – loss of summer arctic sea ice, crop failures, rising ocean temperatures, increasing desertification, large scale forest fires, further loss of species, and spreading of insect borne diseases. The Earth is also experiencing ‘convulsions’ and ‘exhaustion’ trying to absorb all that excess carbon and heat energy.
You: +3°C: 40°C (104°F) - Fainting, dehydration, weakness, vomiting, headache and dizziness may occur as well as profuse sweating. At this temperature, life is threatened.
Earth: +3°C: 16.7°C. Loss of soil moisture leads to large-scale crop failures, more people without access to adequate water supplies. An increase in planetary wide animal extinctions. The Earth is dehydrating, as deserts expand and sweats more too, as cloud cover increases and mega-storms develop in parts of the world.
You: +4°C: 41°C (105.8°F) – You are in a state of medical emergency with severe dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, delirium and drowsiness.
Earth: +4°C: 16.7°C. 10m (33ft) sea level rise. Major cereal crop yields expected to drop worldwide. Indian Himalayas and western China fresh water greatly reduced as glaciers disappear. The Amazon rain forest disappears, global temperature runaway as permafrost melts releasing methane. Now there are an estimated three billion people without adequate water supplies and upwards of 600 million people affected by sea level rises. Many more animal species are disappearing or in severe distress. Over 70% of the emitted carbon dioxide will stay in the atmosphere as carbon sinks collapse.
You: +5°C: 42°C (107.6°F). Your body is shutting down. Symptoms include severe delirium, vomiting, and convulsions. You may become comatose.
Earth: +5°C: 17.7°C. Dramatically different weather patterns and growing seasons – the equator would likely be a dead zone on much of the land – what’s left above water that is, and increasing desertification would push the last of the humans and animals to the poles or off the planet – if there is anywhere else to go by then since society, law and order would likely have broken down.
You: +6°C: 43°C (109.4°F) – Possible death or serious brain damage, continuous convulsions and shock. Cardio-respiratory collapse will most likely occur.
Earth: +6°C: 18.7°C. Just like the human body, most of Earth’s life systems as we now know them today, would either be destroyed or near collapse. Nobody can accurately predicate what will happen to the planet at this point. There is unlikely to be many people left to record what happens anyway. The carbon cycle would be out of control, fed by ‘natural’ cycles and unlikely to reduce in levels for tens of thousands of years but at least the biggest polluters – humans – will no longer be in the picture.
The future looks very grim indeed with a rapidly warming planet. Each degree that the planet warms will bring about more catastrophes and temperatures not experienced for over a 100 million years, when dinosaurs wandered through rainforests near the Poles, crocodiles swam at the North Pole, and Europe was a desert.
There will be mass extinction of many species, including our own, with the human population reduced to survivors clinging to life. The tropics will be too hot to grow crops; the sub-tropics too dry for agriculture and billions of people will go thirsty and hungry. As the oceans rise, rich agricultural low-lying land would disappear. High latitude and near polar regions would become the last standing ground for the human race and whatever animals could adapt.
It’s going to get hot, crowded, and desperate, with everyone on the planet wishing they had spoken up, and taken action, when they had the chance. The chance is now, not in 2°C time.

OSLO (Reuters) - Global warming is happening faster than expected and at worst could raise sea levels by up to 2 meters (6-1/2 ft) by 2100, a group of scientists said on Tuesday in a warning to next month's U.N. climate summit in Copenhagen.
In what they called a "Copenhagen Diagnosis," updating findings in a broader 2007 U.N. climate report, 26 experts urged action to cap rising world greenhouse gas emissions by 2015 or 2020 to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
"Climate change is accelerating beyond expectations," a joint statement said, pointing to factors including a retreat of Arctic sea ice in summer and melting of ice sheets on Greenland and Antarctica.
"Accounting for ice-sheets and glaciers, global sea-level rise may exceed 1 meter by 2100, with a rise of up to 2 meters considered an upper limit," it said. Ocean levels would keep on rising after 2100 and "several meters of sea level rise must be expected over the next few centuries."
Many of the authors were on the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which in 2007 foresaw a sea level rise of 18-59 cms (7-24 inches) by 2100 but did not take account of a possible accelerating melt of Greenland and Antarctica.
Coastal cities from Buenos Aires to New York, island states such as Tuvalu in the Pacific or coasts of Bangladesh or China would be highly vulnerable to rising seas.
"This is a final scientific call for the climate negotiators from 192 countries who must embark on the climate protection train in Copenhagen," Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, said in a statement.
AMAZON, MONSOON
Copenhagen will host a December 7-18 meeting meant to come up with a new U.N. plan to succeed the Kyoto Protocol beyond 2012. But a full legal treaty seems out of reach and talks are likely to be extended into 2010.
"Delay in action risks irreversible damage," the researchers wrote in the 64-page report, pointing to a feared runaway thaw of ice sheets or possible abrupt disruptions to the Amazon rainforest or the West African Monsoon.
The researchers said global carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels were almost 40 percent higher in 2008 than in 1990.
"Carbon dioxide emissions cannot be allowed to continue to rise if humanity intends to limit the risk of unacceptable climate change," said Richard Somerville of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California.
In a respite, the International Energy Agency has said emissions will fall by up to 3 percent in 2009 due to recession.
The report said world temperatures had been rising by an average of 0.19 Celsius a decade over the past 25 years and that the warming trend was intact, even though the hottest year since records began in the mid-19th century was 1998.
"There have been no significant changes in the underlying warming trend," it said. A strong, natural El Nino weather event in the Pacific pushed up temperatures in 1998.

NOAA: Combined Global Surface Temperature Was
Sixth Warmest for October
Global ocean surface temperature fifth warmest
November 17, 2009
The combined global land and ocean surface temperature was the sixth warmest October on record, according to NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. Based on records going back to 1880, the monthly National Climatic Data Center analysis is part of the suite of climate services NOAA provides.
NCDC scientists reported that the average land surface temperature for October was also the sixth warmest on record. Additionally, the global ocean surface temperature was the fifth warmest on record for October.
Global Temperature Highlights
The combined global land and ocean surface temperature for October 2009 was the sixth warmest on record, at 1.03 degrees F above the 20th century average of 57.1 degrees F.
The global land surface temperature for October 2009 was 1.48 degrees F above the 20th century average of 48.7 degrees F, and ranked as the sixth warmest October on record.
The worldwide ocean temperature was the fifth warmest October on record, with an anomaly of 0.90 degree F above the 20th century average of 60.6 degrees F. Warmer-than-average temperatures dominated much of the world’s land areas. The greatest warm temperature variances during October 2009 were present across Alaska and northern and eastern Russia.
Cooler-than-average conditions prevailed across Scandinavia, New Zealand, the contiguous U.S., and parts of northern Australia and southern South America.
Other Highlights
According to New Zealand’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research, New Zealand experienced uncharacteristically cool conditions, resulting in the coolest October since 1945. The national average was 51.1 degrees F, 2.5 degrees F below the long-term average.
Average Arctic sea ice coverage was 2.9 million square miles during October. This is 19.2 percent less than the 1979-2000 average and the second smallest October extent, behind 2007, since records began in 1979.
Antarctic sea ice extent in October was 1.6 percent above the 1979-2000 average, the ninth largest October extent on record.
Hurricane Rick became the second-most intense Northeast Pacific hurricane on record, behind 1997’s Linda, and the strongest hurricane to form in October since reliable records began. Rick made landfall near Mazatlan, Mexico on October 21st, resulting in two fatalities.
Scientists, researchers, and leaders in government and industry use NOAA’s monthly reports to help track trends and other changes in the world's climate. WASHINGTON – Have you heard that the world is now cooling instead of warming? You may have seen some news reports on the Internet or heard about it from a provocative new book.
Only one problem: It's not true, according to an analysis of the numbers done by several independent statisticians for The Associated Press.
The case that the Earth might be cooling partly stems from recent weather. Last year was cooler than previous years. It's been a while since the super-hot years of 1998 and 2005. So is this a longer climate trend or just weather's normal ups and downs?
In a blind test, the AP gave temperature data to four independent statisticians and asked them to look for trends, without telling them what the numbers represented. The experts found no true temperature declines over time.
"If you look at the data and sort of cherry-pick a micro-trend within a bigger trend, that technique is particularly suspect," said John Grego, a professor of statistics at the University of South Carolina.
Yet the idea that things are cooling has been repeated in opinion columns, a BBC news story posted on the Drudge Report and in a new book by the authors of the best-seller "Freakonomics." Last week, a poll by the Pew Research Center found that only 57 percent of Americans now believe there is strong scientific evidence for global warming, down from 77 percent in 2006.
Since 1998, temperatures have dipped, soared, fallen again and are now rising once more. Records kept by the British meteorological office and satellite data used by climate skeptics still show 1998 as the hottest year. However, data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA show 2005 has topped 1998. Published peer-reviewed scientific research generally cites temperatures measured by ground sensors, which are from NOAA, NASA and the British, more than the satellite data.
The recent Internet chatter about cooling led NOAA's climate data center to re-examine its temperature data. It found no cooling trend.
"The last 10 years are the warmest 10-year period of the modern record," said NOAA climate monitoring chief Deke Arndt. "Even if you analyze the trend during that 10 years, the trend is actually positive, which means warming."

Where is the logic in siding with a handful of invidual scientists who have doubts over well established scientific organizations (each representing tens of thousands of scientists)?
Please cons, don't come here with your youtube videos, editorials from poltical and media websites, copy and pastes from wikipedia, and propaganda. For examply linking to an MIT article about how Pluto is warming (trying to convince people its the sun) without mentioning the fact that the scientist cited in the article says it has nothing to do with the sun.

"The scientific evidence is clear: global climate change caused by human activities is occurring now, and it is a growing threat to society. Accumulating data from across the globe reveal a wide array of effects: rapidly melting glaciers, destabilization of major ice sheets, increases in extreme weather, rising sea level, shifts in species ranges, and more. The pace of change and the evidence of harm have increased markedly over the last five years. The time to control greenhouse gas emissions is now."

9) THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR ATMOSPHERIC RESEARCH, FOUNDED IN 1960, OVER 120 MEMBERS, SERVES OVER 62 PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH CENTERS
"Together, these data show that Earth's surface air temperature has risen more than 1.1°F (0.7°C) since the late 1800s. This warming of the average temperature around the globe has been especially sharp since the 1970s. Global models at NCAR have simulated 20th century climate and found three main factors at work:
1) Solar activity contributed to a warming trend in global average temperature from the 1910s through 1930s.
2) As industrial activity increased following World War II, sun-blocking sulfates and other aerosol emissions helped lead to a slight global cooling from the 1940s to 1970s.
3) Since 1980, the rise in greenhouse gas emissions from human activity has overwhelmed the aerosol effect to produce overall global warming."

10) THE NASA'S GODDARD INSTITUTE FOR SPACE STUDIES, FOUNDED IN 1961, SPECIALIZES IN SPACECRAFT OBSERVATIONS AND GLOBAL CLIMATE MODELS
"A new NASA-funded study used a computer climate model to simulate the last 50 years of climate changes, projects warming over the next 50 years regardless of whether or not nations curb their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions soon. If no emission reductions are made and they continue to increase at the current rate, global temperatures may increase by 1-2º Celsius (1.8º-3.6º Fahrenheit). But if the growth rate of carbon dioxide does not exceed its current rate and if the growth of true air pollutants (things that are harmful to human health) is reversed, temperatures may rise by only 0.75C (1.35F)."

DR. JAMES HANSEN
One of the most prominent American scientists calling for global warming action has long been Dr. James Hansen. His terse comment after the East Anglia affair, global warming is still real. “The evidence for human-made climate change is overwhelming.”
Of the emails themselves, he said to Newsweek, “They indicate poor judgment in specific cases. First, the data behind any analysis should be made publicly available. Second, rather than trying so hard to prohibit publication of shoddy science, which is impossible, it is better that reviews, such as by IPCC and the National Academy of Sciences, summarize the full range of opinions and explain clearly the basis of the scientific assessment.”

MEDIATION
Ever vigilant to the latest undisclosed conspiracy Fox News has this headline, “Media Silent on Global Warming Scandal.” I’m at six blogs and counting on many more until the hacker(s) are tried or confess.
In a left-wing Brit rag, a self-proclaimed climate rationalist is ticked off. This writer has already called for the resignation of one of the East Anglia emailers.
“Confronted with crisis, most of the environmentalists I know have gone into denial. The emails hacked from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia, they say, are a storm in a tea cup, no big deal, exaggerated out of all recognition. It is true that climate change deniers have made wild claims which the material can’t possibly support (the end of global warming, the death of climate science).
Here’s a direct comment on the East Anglia affair from the head of the EPA, according to the Wal Street Journal: “We have 2,500 of the word’s foremost scientists who are in absolute agreement that this [global warming] is a real problem and that we need to do something and we need to do something as soon as possible. What am I going to do, side with the couple of naysayers out there or the 2,500 scientists? I’m sticking with the 2,500 scientists.”
Good night fellow Americans. Keep the Faith and keep the faith. Yes we can, yes we will, and yes we did!

When it Comes to CO2, What Goes Up Isn’t Always Coming Down
More CO2 Emitted, But Little Change in Amount Absorbed By Natural System
November 17, 2009
The ocean and the land are natural sponges, or sinks, that absorb carbon dioxide, or CO2, from the atmosphere. But a group of international scientists, including two from NOAA, have found that the emissions are outpacing the ability of the sinks to soak up the excess CO2.
“More CO2 is staying in the atmosphere instead of being absorbed by the ocean and land sinks, like trees and other vegetation,” said Richard Feely, Ph.D., an oceanographer at NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory in Seattle and an expert on ocean acidification, the change in the ocean’s chemistry because of excess CO2. “We’re concerned that if the natural sinks can't keep pace with the increased CO2 emissions, then the physical and biological impacts of global warming will accelerate over the next century.”
Feely and Thomas Conway, a research chemist at NOAA’s Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colo., were among a team of 31 scientists who contributed to “Trends in the sources and sinks of carbon dioxide,” published today in Nature Geosciences. The scientists are also members of the Global Carbon Project, an international collaboration that works to develop a complete picture of the global carbon cycle.
Using a variety of data including direct observations, computer-generated models, and estimates from countries’ energy statistics, the team created a global CO2 budget – or amount of CO2 produced and consumed -- from 1959 to 2008. The researchers write that during that time, an average of 43 percent of each year’s CO2 emissions remained in the atmosphere.
The team did note a spike in global CO2 emissions from 2000 and 2008, likely attributed to manufacturing in developing countries, as well as a rising use of coal as fuel.
Unlike other studies that only consider fossil fuel use to measure CO2 produced by human activities, this team included emissions from changing land use, such as deforestation, logging and intensive cultivation of cropland soils, which also emit CO2.
NOAA’s Mauna Loa Observatory has been monitoring CO2 since 1958, when Charles Keeling, after whom the Keeling Curve is named, began analyzing air samples and charting the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Those measurements were used in this study and are a vital part of NOAA’s suite of climate services.
NOAA and its national and international partners are working together to better understand the extent of ocean acidification and its effect on coastal and ocean ecosystems. Activities include physical and chemical sensors on ships, moorings and floats track CO2 and pH levels in the ocean and satellites monitor sea surface temperatures.
NOAA understands and predicts changes in the Earth’s environment, from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun, and conserves and manages our coastal and marine resources.

Good evening, all.
I see the teabaggers are still laughing at Noah for building the Ark. What was he worrying about? There were only a few thunderheads building up in the heavens as a warning.
And those silly animals were lining up two-by-two in much the same way polar bears are now being stranded on ice floes that used to be solidly attached to glaciers and massive ice shields.
Why should anyone worry about anything but tax cuts for the wealthy? Let's keep allowing them to gamble away our economy and destroy the environment just so they can be even more lost to their greed and corruption.
Speaking of the teabaggers....

I think he is going to be on the next Dancing with the Stars. You girls will have to make sure you watch it! I will sure be voting for him every week! haha
Have a good Thanksgiving Eve, Fine Dems, and I will be in and out tomorrow. I am fixing veggies for my Sister's big dinner for 22, plus I have to run out to pick up one of those Edible bouquets to bring.

wow! another trooly holiday is upon us. Our feast is on Friday, so I have plenty of time to prepare tomorrow. The carpenter is going out for a morning hunt, so I will have quite time watching the sun come up!
so, what are you all thankful for? I'd have to say one of the greatest things this year is having a real leader and statesman as our President!!!
Thank God for President Obama, may he and his family continue to be blessed and be a blessing!
Psalm 138:1-3 —
I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart;
before the "gods" I will sing your praise.
I will bow down toward your holy temple
and will praise your name
for your love and your faithfulness,
for you have exalted above all things
your name and your word.
When I called, you answered me;
you made me bold and stouthearted.
enjoy the evening, everyone.
Factory pollution is over 40% of the pollution that causes global warming. One of the diseases that it causes is asthma. More than twenty million people a year have asthma attacks and over 9,000 kids in the United States die a year from asthma attacks. Other diseases are heart and lung diseases, and respiratory allergies ("Drgreene.com"). The World Health Organization estimates that in all 4.6 million people die each year from causes that are directly from air pollution.
According to Scorecard, over 20,000 factories in the United States produce over 4 billion pounds of toxic chemicals that could leak into the environment.

Hi Essie,
Happy Thanksgiving Eve to you too.
It's been really cold here. It was 17 this morning and it is supposed to be 15 tomorrow morning and it isn't even winter yet. It is supposed to warm up some on Friday morning (28).
Thom Hartman was saying that Japan spends $300 per capita on defense and Germany spends slightly more. Guess what we spend. WE SPEND $2700 per man, woman and child in the US. How disgusting is that. With all the money we could provide every man, woman and child single payer health care, free college, good wages and a whole lot more. Why are we such war mongers?
The military/industrial complex has us in a stranglehold and won't let go. Where did we go wrong. Eisenhower warned us about this very thing and yet we go ahead and spend our children into oblivion on defense and not do a thing for the men, women and children of America.
It is time for change.
Science News Share Blog Cite Print Email BookmarkWarmer Means Windier on Lake Superior, World's Biggest Freshwater Lake
ScienceDaily (Nov. 25, 2009) — Rising water temperatures are kicking up more powerful winds on Lake Superior, with consequences for currents, biological cycles, pollution and more on the world's largest freshwater lake* and its smaller brethren.
Climate
Since 1985, surface water temperatures measured by lake buoys have climbed 1.2 degrees per decade, about 15 percent faster than the air above the lake and twice as fast as warming over nearby land.
"The lake's thermal budget is very sensitive to the amount of ice cover over the winter," says Ankur Desai, atmospheric and oceanic sciences professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. "There is less ice on Lake Superior during the winter, and consequently the water absorbs more heat."
A wide temperature differential between water and air makes for a more stable atmosphere with calmer winds over the relatively cold water. However, as warming water closes the gap, as in Lake Superior's case, the atmosphere gets more turbulent.
"You get more powerful winds," Desai says. "We've seen a 5 percent increase per decade in average wind speed since 1985."
Those findings will be published Nov. 15 in the journal Nature Geoscience.
Desai, fellow atmospheric and oceanic sciences professor Galen McKinley and graduate research assistant Val Bennington of UW-Madison and physics professor Jay Austin of the University of Minnesota-Duluth used more than 20 years of temperature and wind data collected by three lake buoys and Earth-observing satellites to model Superior's water and wind system in three dimensions.
"We can look at how the currents are changing based on changes in the wind," McKinley says. "What we saw was a significant increase in the speed of the currents, nearly 10 percent per decade."
In theory, that increase in wind and current strength would make for more mixing within the lake and, in turn, a boost in the growth of organisms that make up the earliest links in the food chain.
But Lake Superior's chlorophyll levels -- a measure of the presence of phytoplankton -- have been falling. The effect went largely without explanation until the researchers' modeling showed that the period of temperature stratification (well-defined separation of cold, deep water and warm surface water) was growing alongside surface temperatures and wind and current speed.
"The warming of the lake is counteracting the mixing we would expect," says McKinley, as the annual period warm water "shoals," or remains shallow, grows longer by a few days every decade.
A warmer Lake Superior may also have consequences for the movement of airborne pollutants to and from lakeshore communities.
"If you look at an area like Door County, they have issues with pollution in the air, but not the industries that produce it," Desai said. "What they have is Lake Michigan, which has a weaker temperature differential and higher along-shore wind speeds that bring in air from industrialized areas."
Changes in the lake winds may also play out over neighboring land, Desai says, possibly in the way Superior drives fall's lake-effect snowstorms.
Lake Superior may be the anchor for a chain of lakes that hold one-fifth of the world's fresh surface water, but the impact of steadily rising temperatures has been poorly understood, according to Desai.
"Large lakes are very interesting," he says. "They behave sometimes like an ocean and sometimes like a small lakes, but they're not studied as much as either."
That may change with the arrival of more than half a billion dollars promised by the federal government to Great Lakes programs. McKinley sees the group's continuing research as vital to a reasoned approach to mitigating the effects of pollution and invasive species.
"We have more to do," McKinley says, pointing to Austin's mooring of underwater instruments and the researchers' continuing assessment of the carbon cycling in and out of Lake Superior as part of a four-year grant funded by the National Science Foundation.
"The new federal money is good, but it can't only be for remediation," she says. There's got to be some of that science to understand how these lakes work."
*Editor's Note: Lake Superior is generally classified as the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area (not counting Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, which if counted as a single body of water would be the biggest). The largest freshwater lake by volume is Russia's Lake Baikal. The salty Caspian Sea, if considered as a lake since it is land-locked, would be the largest both in terms of surface area and volume. The republicans are all up in arms about abortion yet they don't care that millions die from air pollution, war or lack of health care. Why are republicans such disgusting pigs?
I hate to say it but it looks to me like it will take a revolution to straighten out this nation and all these heathen republicans who hide behind a false god spewing (their) phone bible verses at every turn.
I Received an email today that my brother passed on to me. It contains pure hate for President Obama and goes on and on about how great America is and how Obama is bowing to foreign powers. These people are obviously war mongers and think that America is the savior of the entire world. I know a lot of military people feel this way and I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled off a military coup and took over our country. I think a professional military has been a serious mistake which we will live to regret. We should have a citizen army like Switzerland.
The direction this country is heading is exactly the way Germany headed under Adolf Hitler. Once they get in power they will exterminate large portions of our population - the unbelievers - who they will blame for all America's problems just like Hitler blamed the Jews for their failure to win WWI. It is getting downright scary with all these people like beck, palin, bachman, coldsore, hannity, limpballs and dobbs screaching their hate for President Obama on the radio and tv every day.
If the situation doesn't improve, we may have to straigten it out ourselves.

Aren't they finding out that Autism is related to the environment too?
It seems to me that we are arguing about the causes of global warming and ignoring the issue.
Global warming is real. I don't give a damn what caused it. Let's fix it if we can. If we are unable to do anything about it we will all die. I think it is very important to at least try to reverse the process. Arguing back and forth about what causes it whether it be the sun, mankind or Mickey Mouse makes no sense to me at all. We at least have to try to reverse it and it makes no sense to me at all to argue about it and ignore the fact that we will all be dead in the next 100 years and the Earth will be uninhabitable.
Aren't they finding out that Autism is related to the environment too?
111johhne on November 25, 2009 at 09:42 PM
Johhne, i have read a little about it, but don't think they got anything concrete yet, although they suspect it could be a contributor.
112johhne on November 25, 2009 at 09:50 PM
Johhne, bottom line is, even if Global Warming is not as bad, as the scientists say it is. Which i think it is. We need to clean the air anyway, it causes to many different health problems, and deaths. And i personally think it will get much worst, with the other countries growing like crazy. China, India, Brazil, and Africa, just to mention a few, that are becoming more industrialized every day.
Tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, Americans across the country will sit down together, count our blessings, and give thanks for our families and our loved ones.
American families reflect the diversity of this great nation. No two are exactly alike, but there is a common thread they each share.
Our families are bound together through times of joy and times of grief. They shape us, support us, instill the values that guide us as individuals, and make possible all that we achieve.
So tomorrow, I'll be giving thanks for my family -- for all the wisdom, support, and love they have brought into my life.
But tomorrow is also a day to remember those who cannot sit down to break bread with those they love.
The soldier overseas holding down a lonely post and missing his kids. The sailor who left her home to serve a higher calling. The folks who must spend tomorrow apart from their families to work a second job, so they can keep food on the table or send a child to school.
We are grateful beyond words for the service and hard work of so many Americans who make our country great through their sacrifice. And this year, we know that far too many face a daily struggle that puts the comfort and security we all deserve painfully out of reach.
So when we gather tomorrow, let us also use the occasion to renew our commitment to building a more peaceful and prosperous future that every American family can enjoy.
It seems like a lifetime ago that a crowd met on a frigid February morning in Springfield, Illinois to set out on an improbable course to change our nation.
In the years since, Michelle and I have been blessed with the support and friendship of the millions of Americans who have come together to form this ongoing movement for change.
You have been there through victories and setbacks. You have given of yourselves beyond measure. You have enabled all that we have accomplished -- and you have had the courage to dream yet bigger dreams for what we can still achieve.
So in this season of thanks giving, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to you, and my anticipation of the brighter future we are creating together.
With warmest wishes for a happy holiday season from my family to yours,
President Barack Obama

re. "This party has now been reduced to the skin-heads, racists, and just plain ignorant fools. They are now lead by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity. Liars, fools, and racists."
Well a few Republicans in Congress still attempt to be loyal opponents rather than insurgents to our current government, like perhaps Hatch of Utah, Grassley of Iowa, Olympia Snow, and the LA Congressman to vote for passage of the Health bill in Congress. Lindsay Graham and John Boehner probably do represent the dominant sentiments in their state or district. My hope is that the center in American holds and indeed grows, regardless of whether populated with Democrats,
Republicans or Independents.
But the climate of reaction is such that most GOP statesmen fear to break out of their solid voting bloc. The solid Congressional minority rejects every centrist Presidential initiative for some unexplainable reason, not arguably racism per se but perhaps a fear that the voting majority in their own districts dines on a straight diet of visceral red meat fed them by the likes of Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh. No Congressman campaigning for reelection will likely repeat Warner's now infamous "Macocca (sp) moment." But addressing the right audience it's easy enough to talk in code without ever calling a non-Caucasian a Spade."
re. "Obama to Attend International Junk Science Meeting on Non-Existent Global Warming"
What backwater in MN are ya from not to know that the denialists are now calling it "Globull" Warming ? Get with it, Frosty. How else are you going to get that usage established in the dictionary or that concept etched into people's brains ?
Global Warming,
The rnc paid trolls are here to disrupt our blog and spew hate. They don't have lives and are probably republican perverts.
"The irony of this situation is that most of us expect science to be conducted in the open, without unpublished secret data, hidden agendas, and computer programs of dubious reliability. East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit might have avoided this snafu by publicly disclosing as much as possible at every step of the way."
No the real irony is that scientific articles that would seem to support the denialist claims about climate change are not all that's being censored. More alarming interpretations that would support a much more precipitous collapse of earth's ice caps and glaciation is also being suppressed.
(It's happening all right but not too fast, not too slow - rather at a measured pace. No sense in everyone getting all worked up about what's too late to fix anyway. Now THAT's controlling the message!)
Harrabin's Notes: E-mail arguments
Saturday, 21 November 2009
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8371597.stm
My contacts at the CRU tell me the e-mails are being taken out of context and insist they are part of the normal hurly-burly of conversations between scientists working on some of the most complicated questions of our times.
They ask how many of us would feel completely comfortable if our own inboxes were emptied out for the world to see. How much of what we had said to close colleagues in industry jargon would be liable to misinterpretation?
"If the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) can't do closed e-mail, no-one with any expertise could do anything. I don't know how you are supposed to work if you don't have e-mail," my source said.
But the e-mail stash is proving a treasure trove for sceptics who have challenged every facet of climate science and policy.
Some of the e-mails reveal the frustration and annoyance among mainstream climate researchers about the probings they face from critics who relentlessly question their methodology.
And although my contact insists that the e-mails are about how data is presented and interpreted, sceptics say the e-mailers may have been discussing how the data could be manipulated.
The CRU has been repeatedly asked to publish the entire data set from which it compiled an important grid-based record of global temperatures.
It says it will publish full details when it has clearance from all the world's meteorological offices whose permission is needed.
But speaking to my source at the CRU, it is also clear that the unit has been dragged down by what it considers to be nit-picking and unreasonable demands for data - and that there is personal animus against their intellectual rivals.
Now this sort of hostility is nothing new in academia - but the revelations come at a sensitive time as the world's nations gather for the climate meeting in Copenhagen.
My CRU source points out that its unpublished full data set is almost identical to the ones at the National Climatic Data Center and the Goddard Institute of Space Studies.
Both of these are in the US, where there are no restrictions on publication. The CRU view is that when the sceptics see the full data in due course they will be very disappointed.
Hacked climate e-mails and FOI
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/opensecrets/2009/11/hacked_climate_emails_and_foi.html
Monday, 23 November 2009
Freedom of information can be a troublesome matter for some academic institutions - and this is well illustrated by the surprising content of some e-mails hacked from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia and published on the internet a few days ago.
The CRU is a leading centre for the study of climate change and has played a key role in the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It's also a focus of criticism for a vociferous band of climate change sceptics, who have started hunting through the large quantity of hacked e-mails with enthusiasm.
Whatever these e-mails may or may not say about climate change is outside the scope of this blog. But they are certainly interesting from the FOI point of view.
I should note that it is not yet possible to confirm beyond doubt that the hacked e-mails are all authentic. However, I have discussed them with the university press office and the CRU's director, Professor Phil Jones, who is the author of many of them. They both say that there are so many documents that they have not yet been able to check that they are all genuine. But it's certainly clear that some are real, and neither the university nor Professor Jones made any attempt to question the authenticity of any of them.
Harrabin's Notes: E-mail impact
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8377465.stm
Tuesday, 24 November 2009
Professor Andrew Watson, a long-term colleague of the researchers at the CRU, said the unit should have nothing to fear from an inquiry, as the CRU temperature data set at the heart of many of the e-mails is almost identical to the two other authoritative data sets, both in the US.
"The difference between science and other branches of life - like politics - is that we should be completely transparent about what we do," he said.
"Everything should be open to question. The people who have been alleging a conspiracy over the years will see that there is no conspiracy - that one side has clearly won the debate that the climate has been changing and that human activities are the only plausible explanation.
"If this is the most evidence they can come up with of a conspiracy after looking through thousands of e-mails where researchers thought they were talking in private - well, it's pretty pathetic."
Any inquiry could explain the difficulties of smoothing data curves at each end, or of aggregating data from developing countries where weather stations have suddenly moved. [...]
But in the world of science policy, many others find themselves in a war of influence against those firms who fund the amplification of the messages of the relatively small number of genuinely sceptical scientists outside the consensus. The sceptic business lobby aims to keep scientific doubt alive to paralyse policy. This is the world of science Realpolitik.
Over two decades I've spoken to mainstream scientists who are sick of hearing their work attacked and their motives questioned. In this world, climate science extends beyond arguments about trend-smoothing to become a matter of life and death for millions of people, according to the mainstream projections on temperatures.
But this affair will surely change things: From now, scientific teams and peer-review groups will be much more cautious about how they word e-mails.
Climate change: What price will future generations pay?
VIEWPOINT
Lord David Puttnam
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8374965.stm
Monday, 23 November 2009
Climate change poses a huge barrier to a fulfilling future, argues Lord Puttnam, an ambassador for Unicef UK. In this week's Green Room, he asks what price children will have to pay for three or four carbon-happy generations?
When world leaders sit round the table in Copenhagen next month to try and tackle what has become possibly the greatest moral crisis of my generation, a unique responsibility rests on their shoulders as they try to decide what kind of world future generations will inherit.
What price will children have to pay for the three or four carbon-happy generations that have lived before them?
The prognosis is not good. In the past month alone, the world has been shaken by a series of disasters, such as typhoons and floods in the Philippines.
With weather-related disasters predicted to only increase in severity and frequency, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stresses the grave consequences others will face if we continue down the high emissions pathway we appear to have chosen - increased child poverty, inequity and death.
Carrying capacity
There is no doubt that my generation has uniquely contributed to this increasing chaos, and the burden my grandchildren and those of others will have to carry because of it.
What is less clear, however, is what price today's decision makers will place on the well-being of future generations when carving out their response to climate change.
A new paper released by Unicef UK - Climate Change, Child's Rights and Intergenerational Justice - makes it clear that their responsibility is huge, particularly when it comes to protecting the rights and future well-being of children.
Climate change is not just an environmental problem, it is a human rights issue. In fact it's the biggest child rights problem of our time.
With the potential rise of up to 160,000 child deaths a year in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia directly resulting from climate change, it is children, the most vulnerable children, who will be caught at the centre of the storm.
They will unquestionably carry the greatest burden - both as children and as future adults - and yet they are the least culpable for its damage. [...]
At a global and national level, climate change responses must focus on long-term sustainable solutions to ensure the well-being and needs of future generations are met. This means minimising the impact on future generations caused by the current level of CO2 emissions from the industrialised world.
So we must stop borrowing from the future and act now, with world leaders putting the rights and needs of children at the core of the climate change policy framework.
Our children and those as yet unborn deserve to live in a world that is healthier, more equitable and which offers a sustainable future - exactly the type of world we ourselves would want to live in. Copenhagen offers the opportunity to ensure that happens; we must grab it, before it is too late.
Climate change policies 'improve health'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8377268.stm
Wednesday, 25 November 2009
Cutting emissions to mitigate climate change will also make people healthier, according to research.
A special series of articles, published in medical journal, the Lancet, outlines how such policies could have a direct impact on global health.
The series has been released ahead of the UN climate summit in Copenhagen.
World Health Organization (WHO) director, Margaret Chan, said health protection should be a criterion by which mitigation measures were judged.
Dr Chan was just one of the key figures in global health research who wrote a comment article that was published alongside the Lancet reports.
Another was Professor Sir Andrew Haines, director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, who is chair of the international task force of scientists that wrote the series.
He said that the public health benefits of mitigation policies had not had "sufficient prominence" in international negotiations.
Dr Chan commented: "As this series shows, cutting greenhouse gas emissions can represent a mutually reinforcing opportunity to reduce climate change and improve public health."
Some of the key findings presented in the reports included evidence that moving towards low carbon transport systems could reduce the health impacts of urban air pollution and physical inactivity.
Researchers also found that changes in farming practice to reduce livestock and meat consumption could improve health by lowering the intake of saturated fat.
And in poor countries, reducing the need to burn solid fuel indoors could have a significant impact on child and maternal health by cutting indoor air pollution.
Ships on alert for icebergs heading towards New Zealand
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8379690.stm
Wednesday, 25 November 2009
A warning has been issued to ships in the southern Pacific Ocean after more than 100 icebergs were spotted drifting towards New Zealand.
The icebergs, some of which are 200m (650ft) in size, are believed to have broken from an Antarctic ice floe.
Many scientists have said they believe these segments will break up long before reaching the New Zealand coastline.
The last time such a large flotilla was spotted so nearby was in 2006.
Maritime New Zealand has issued the alert to vessels in the area although it is not a major shipping lane.
Spokesman Ross Henderson said: "It is really just a general warning for shipping in that area to be on the alert for icebergs."
Earlier spot
Glaciologist Neal Young, from the Australian Antarctic Division, said the flotilla was heading towards New Zealand's main South Island.
Mr Young said satellite photography spotted just one cluster of icebergs but that was not to say more were not around.
He said the closest iceberg - about 30m high (98ft), was 160 miles (257.5km) south east of New Zealand's Stewart Island.
Earlier this month the Australian government organisation reported larger icebergs were seen floating off Tasmania's Macquarie Island territory. It is believed this particular flotilla stems from those giant chunks - one which was estimated to be double the size of Beijing's "Bird's Nest" Olympic Stadium.
A number of scientists say they believe the icebergs originally broke away from the Ross Sea Ice Shelf in 2000 and have been drifting and slowly breaking apart since then, reports say.
In 2006, a number of icebergs from the same broken shelf came within 16 miles (25km) of the coastline. Before that, the last sighting was in 1931.
Mike Williams, an oceanographer from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research, said since the icebergs were moving at a speed of just 16 miles (25km) a day, he did not expect many of them to reach New Zealand's coastline.
Thanksgiving comes to us out of the prehistoric dimness, universal to all ages and all faiths.
At whatever straws we must grasp, there is always a time for gratitude and new beginnings.

Happy Thanksgiving, Good Democrats!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Our feast is tomorrow. Cooking is no big deal to me. I hope all of you enjoy your family/friends activities today and the rest of the holiday weekend.
"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven"
Matthew 16:19
Morning Esme, Morning Dems.......
Thank you Global Warming for your enlighted articles , and also Barbi.
Global, I have said for years, if one attends their kids or grandkids soccer games, or any other sport ones, they will see the number of kids who take a puff on their inhaler when they get back to the bench.
WHAT IS THE FREAKEN BIG DEAL, of making those who are polluting the air, do something about it? I do not care if they believe the planet is warming from the greenhouse effect holding those pollutents in or not----WHY would they watch kids suffer from Asthma and other breathing disorders, and not want to do something about it?
Is their political philosophies SO much more important to them, than demanding that companies do something about the release into the air and water of their waste?
These right wing sheeple, are so totally brainwashed----they would watch their kid or grandkid die from no air in their lungs, than to speak out and say ENOUGH---do something !
How sick are these blind Right wingers?
liberal gays let it all hang out!
you on the other hand - lie, lie, deny.
Esme, Stevie and these Repugs here, always remind me of the test that that company did, attaching wires to the penis' of a group of men, and showed them Gay porn. The ones who showed the most excitement, were the ones who were the most mouthy about Gay activities before hand.
I am willing to put up a HUGE bet, that Stevie, Thomass, and Dufus would all be the ones who's test results went off the charts, should they be included in a group shown gay porno! They seem to know such intricte details of the act itself---one can only conclude that they have shown an interest in it previously. They just can't leave the subject alone, can they? Obsession? Closet? latent desire?
Morning Pam, Barbi and Essie,
Happy Thanksgiving.
Essie,
I heard on the ABC radio news this morning that there is still a lot of hunger in America. They were not talking about a third world country but the US. They said the worst states are Texas, Mississippi and Ohio.
Thanks your Congresspersons who are too cheap to feed the poor. Mr. boner comes to mind in Ohio and graham comes to mind in texas.
be in and out today. Stevie will be lurking, now that he has lied and said he will be with family! Outside of his daughter, there is not one sibling that will be caught dead with him. His only uncle is too old to host anything, and he is all alone.
If his daughter decided to pity her father , always all alone, well I hope Stevie has enough money to buy the TV Turkey dinners. Maybe pick up a pie in the dumpster behind the local bakery.
Happy Thanksgiving Day----Dems. As I work and run around this morning, I may pop back in.
Have the tree and all the decorations down, gonna start on them today too.
Enjoy your day.
Maybe they think like the pseudo religious, non-christian bates and his father who are experts at everything. They say that people shouldn't eat if they don't work and they call homosexuals "queers". This to me is totally unacceptable. These two are not christians, far from it. They are selfish assholes from colorado the pseudo-religious capital of the world.
Carbon dioxide is not "pollution". It is a naturally occurring bi-product of the processing of oxygen by all living creatures. It has only recently been considered as "detrimental" by those believers in the world-wide scam perpetrated by Almer Gantry Gore. Of all of the so-called "green house gasses" he chose carbon dioxide because it can be also tied to the use of any energy in any form.
Posted by the know-it-all, Thomassssss
WHERE did you see in my message, that I said corporations pollute with Co2? See that is the trouble with you Thomasss, you don't read! You jump to conclusions, and that is a result of your ass being filled with your head.
I SAID POLLUTENTS FROM COMPANIES SHOULD BE HARNESSED. NO MATTER WHAT IS POURING OUT OF THOSE SMOKE STACKS. I HAVE PRATT & WHITNEY IN THIS TOWN----AND IF YOU EVER DROVE BY AND SAW CURLING OUT OF THEIR SMOKESTACKS, THE GREYEST SMOKE YOU EVER SAW !
And if you start looking and asking, you will find many a sports child using inhalers.
You would just close your eyes and turn away! To admit your strong protection of Companies is politcally motivated from a koolaid drinking party, while children are effected would not be tolerable to your ego ! Rather than let kids die, (9000 a year due to Asthma attacks), let those corporations keep polluting and don't make them spend any money to correct it ! You keep up the good work, there Thomassssss! You are almost as nuts as Stevieboy!
15Chicago on November 25, 2009 at 01:20 PM
Um... yeah Sherlock if I only knew whom to properly blame that would help me get a job. Thanks asshat. Did you get dropped on your head alot when you were an infant? I thought that stimulus was going to create jobs.
Maybe I need to move to the 00th congressional district in my state to get one of those high paying jobs created with all the stimulus dollars that transparently went there....
Mind if I nominate you for a Darwin Award asshat in Chicago?
Take a look at this asshole. He is accusing the "liberals" of the same thing the republicans have been doing for thiry years, taking away our freedoms. These people really piss me off dissing our military, our government employees and the only people left who give a shit about America and Americans.
This guy is a FUCKING PRICK LIAR.
We don't have jobs because the fucking cheap bastard republicans who bailed out the fucking banks gave all our money to them. Now the banks are pigeonholing the money in their greedy big bank vaults and not lending money to small businesses so they can hire people.
THIS IS THE PROBLEM AND I AM TIRED OF NEOTARDS BLAMING PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA AND TURNING US INTO A NAZI STATE.
I am furious about the crap that bush, cheney and the neotards shoved down to the states. It is called the Real ID Act. The neotards decided that illegal aliens shouldn't fly so they shoved a law through requiring states and territories to issue new drivers licenses which indicate a person is a legal alien. Then the bastards are trying to make the states pay for it. It will cost billions.
Fifteen states are suing the government and 36 are trying to have the Act overturned. They are saying that if the states don't comply, people in all these states will not be able to board a plane without a passport. Talk about taking away our freedoms. How long will it be before we will need a passport to drive to another state or board a train or a bus?

I am sure you were equally as outraged as you watched bush lose 7 MILLION jobs too, weren't you!
The Stimulus bill, which the Repugs fought tooth and nail was the first effort to get jobs stimulated. Another one is down the road.
It took 8 years of Bush to get us here-----let's give Obama and the Democrats a little time, right?

Where are the jobs? What is being done to aid in the creation of real jobs, right now?
Who else with all the smug smart ass answers in here is freakin' unemployed? Yeah we just need some more time, give him a chance. While I lose my house and car. Yeah just more stimulus... thats all we need. How long do I have to wait for change? Mindless robots.
Yeah this post will get deleted too because it questions a recognized point of failure in this administration and congress. Just ignore the unemployed people behind the curtain...
