  • Jane Stetson

    National Finance Chair

Jane Stetson is the National Finance Chair for the Democratic National Committee.

A dedicated philanthropist, health care advocate and civic leader, Jane Stetson has spent over two decades creating and supporting numerous institutions focused on improving the lives of children, their families and the communities in which they live.

An active member of the Board of Overseers for Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), one of the country’s most prestigious teaching hospitals, Mrs. Stetson has served on the DHMC Community Advisory Board, a strategic planning group charged with promoting long term community health.

Following the chronic illness of one of her children, Mrs. Stetson co-founded the William E. Boyle Community Pediatrics Program at Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth, an innovative program whose mission is to train pediatric residents to practice medicine under a collaborative model, particularly when they are working with families who have a chronically ill child. The Program provides a bridge between the Medical Center, families and the community, through advocacy, community connections and a newly opened family center at DHMC. The Program has seen great success in changing the climate at the Medical Center from one of “top down management” to one of collaborative, family centered care, with an emphasis on prevention. In addition, she chaired the capital campaign to build David’s House, a facility which serves as a home-away-from-home and support for families with chronically ill children receiving treatment at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Mrs. Stetson has served on the boards of The Mountain School of Milton Academy in Vershire, Vermont and Proctor Academy in Andover, New Hampshire. She is an advisor to the Vermont Intercultural Semesters, an international student enrichment program which supports Vermont high school students to travel and live abroad in India.

Active in democratic politics and fundraising on both state and national level,  Mrs. Stetson has served in leadership positions for the Democratic National Committee, U.S Senator Patrick Leahy, Governor Howard Dean and Presidential Candidate Barack Obama. She has been a past National Finance Chair to U.S. Congressman Peter Welch and has been honored by the Vermont Democratic Party for her work on behalf of Democratic values.

Mrs. Stetson is a native of the New York area and has lived throughout Europe. She is granddaughter of Thomas J. Watson, the founder of International Business Machines (IBM), the niece of Thomas J. Watson, Jr. the former U.S. Ambassador to Russia and former Chairman of the IBM Corporation, and the daughter of Arthur K. Watson, former Vice President of IBM and former Chairman of the IBM World Trade Corporation and former U.S. Ambassador to France.

Mrs. Stetson is fluent in French and has studied at the Sorbonne University and the American College in Paris. She resides in Washington, DC and Norwich, Vermont with her husband Bill Stetson, a media producer, founding president of the Vermont Film Commission and president of Foundation for Our Future. She has three daughters, Nancy, Katharine and Grace.
