DIRECTOR FOR SURROGATE OPERATIONS

Description

The Director for Surrogate Operations works with departments across the DNC to establish and manage a centralized surrogate program and advance the strategy and goals of the Democratic Party. This position will oversee staff that provide scheduling and provide logistical planning for surrogates to appear at events on behalf of the Democratic National Committee and other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer of the DNC.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with relevant team members to design and execute a strategic program that maximizes surrogate participation and engagement across the country
  • Work with all departments to achieve political and communications goals
  • Oversee and manage staff that implement all travel, logistical planning, promotion, staffing needs, and briefing materials for high-level surrogates and their events
  • Assist in writing and editing trip briefings for all surrogates
  • Work closely with the Communications team to provide all media surrogates; this includes bookings for TV, radio, press conferences, coordinated event surrogate asks, and relationship maintenance
  • Assume primary responsibility for managing and executing all new and ongoing projects to support the program’s short- and long-term goals
  • Oversee and manage a professional team tasked with every aspect of the surrogate experience
  • Additional duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Management, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of work experience, with a focus on political communications or communications management.
  • Extensive and in-depth familiarity with current U.S. political landscape, including personalities, parties, and processes.
  • Ability to handle sensitive political issues as well as maximize leadership engagements.
  • Ability to represent the DNC with maturity and judgment and interact with high-level political, non-profit, and other leaders.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills; strong team player.
  • Outstanding oral presentation and written communication skills; strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities change rapidly.
  • Ability to prioritize and attend to multiple assignments.
  • Ability to travel domestically as required.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel); Internet skills.

The Democratic National Committee is looking for talented digital writers and strategists to join our team for the 2016 election and beyond.

In this job, you'll work daily to engage millions of Americans to support President Obama and Democrats across the country. You’ll also help build an organization to support the Democratic nominee for president, hold the GOP contenders and eventual nominee accountable, and work with Democratic Party stakeholders across the country to elect Democratic candidates for offices up and down the ticket.

Specifically, you will be responsible for planning, writing, and executing grassroots email campaigns, in addition to supporting the work of the Digital team on other cross-channel projects. This is not an entry-level job. You’ll have the opportunity to write in the voices of President Obama, Vice President Biden, our presidential nominee, and top Democratic Party officials as you work with senior leadership to craft our message online.

Qualifications:
  • One election cycle or 2+ years experience working in digital strategy for an electoral campaign, advocacy organization, or non-profit
  • Expert organizing and campaigning knowledge; should be familiar with digital organizing and fundraising best practices

SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Description

Software Engineers build tools for the DNC both internally and for Democratic campaigns across the country. The last few years have seen incredible advances in campaign technology, and Software Engineers will help Democrats leverage these advances, while laying the groundwork for what comes next.

This position reports to the Director of Engineering and will work closely with members of the Technology Department as a member of a team of engineers developing applications and back-end systems for both the DNC and Democratic campaigns and committees.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop applications to help Democratic campaigns reach the electorate, raise money and turn out voters
  • Commit clean, readable, well-documented code and hustle to fix things when they break
  • Work in all layers of the application stack, from database to application code to user interfaces, across languages and technologies to design seamless experiences
  • Work across our technology department and with non-technical stakeholders to develop products and deliver them on schedule
About You:

You should have experience solving complex technical problems at all levels of the application stack. You want to help Democrats be faster and better at their jobs by decreasing friction for users across our applications. You probably also have:

  • Expertise manipulating huge amounts of data, working with relational and NoSQL databases
  • Experience writing Ruby on Rails and/or Python and parsing new languages and specifications
  • Excitement about working in a highly collaborative team that works under an agile framework
  • A commitment to the cause of electing Democrats and furthering progressive governance at all levels

STATE PARTY VICTORY FUND COORDINATOR

Big Picture Responsibilities:

The State Party Victory Fund (SPVF) Coordinator will report to the Director of Marketing, and coordinate all aspects of the State Party Victory Fund, a multi-million dollar direct mail fundraising program.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Executing planning for Victory Fund mailings, setting up mail plan strategy and testing
  • Liaison with DNC staff, state chairs and executive directors to edit and approve copies
  • Managing the production process in cooperation with our consultant, tracking state party mailboxes, income and expenses
  • Managing production of acknowledgments; incorporating web channels into the program
  • Working closely with Director of Marketing and senior staff members at the DNC to grow the Victory Fund
  • Assist Marketing Director with proofing, vendor oversight, administrative, and other tasks associated with DNC grassroots fundraising programs
  • Handle Victory Fund-related inquiries by state party staffers
  • Field membership and constituent service calls and requests
  • Other duties as assigned
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-3 years of work experience
  • Political or other non-profit experience required, fundraising/marketing experience preferred

Description

Trackers are our eyes and ears, instrumental in the work we do to hold Republicans accountable for their statements and proposals. They are on the ground, attending the Republican events documenting and monitoring the opposition while staying in close contact with the research team in DC. In this position, the Tracker will:

Responsibilities
  • Monitor in-state schedules for Republican presidential hopefuls and major surrogates in cooperation with DC Research staff
  • Attend all public events where possible presidential candidates and major surrogates appear and videotape their remarks
  • Immediately flag news-worthy remarks or happenings from the event and quickly transmit the footage to the DC Research office
  • Assist in transcriptions and additional on the ground research needs as requested
Requirements
  • A reliable vehicle, car insurance and valid driver’s license
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Cunning attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to take direction, ask questions and quickly learn new tasks and databases
  • Self-motivated with the ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Crucial technical skills include the ability to record and transmit digital video and a resourcefulness in making these systems work on the road
  • Possess a strong political instinct and knowledge of current political events and policy and ability to become well-versed in candidate’s statements
  • Must maintain calm under pressure, be both assertive and respectful enough to get into Republican events, and feel comfortable videoing them
