  • Association of State Democratic Chairs Training Director

    Responsibilities:

    The ASDC Training Director's (ASDC TD) primary responsibility is to train, manage, and help equip state party leaders and staff with the campaign tools needed to advance and grow state party capabilities.

    • Ability to learn quickly and train Democratic leaders on a variety of campaign tools;
    • Travel to many states to train state party leaders and staff;
    • A familiarity with a variety of campaign components including field, digital media, fundraising, communications and political;
    • Work with a small team based out of DC.

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Candidates should have some familiarity with social networking tools, NGP VAN, Maestro Conference and QuickBase;
    • Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, experience meeting deadlines, and the ability to manage many tasks simultaneously;
    • Candidates will preferably have one election cycle of campaign experience;
    • The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the structure of political campaigns and familiarity with campaign technology, and experience training staff and/or volunteers;
    • A strong interest in and commitment to politics are musts.

  • Video Systems Administrator

    The Video Systems Administrator is an entry level position within the DNC Research Department, and will be responsible for maintaining and growing our video capture servers and one of the largest video databases in politics.

    Responsibilities:

    The Administrator will handle both daily backup of broadcast media and retrieval from the archive when responding to requests. The administrator will be responsible for keeping all research hardware in good working order as well as implementation of key features and major system upgrades in the coming year. The Administrator is also responsible for monitoring our recorded programming schedule, and capturing events. When needed, the administrator may be asked to perform basic IT tasks for the Research and Communications departments.

    The Administrator will be the primary point of contact for development and maintenance of our extensive video database. The Administrator should be familiar with both the front-end and back-end of the database and should be prepared to be heavily involved with development tasks alongside our development team. The Administrator should understand both the technical and qualitative needs of the database, and be prepared to offer creative solutions and proactively identify needs. A familiarity with large databases and search functions is helpful.

    In addition, the Administrator should be well-versed in current events, political media and cable news, and feel comfortable working in a rapid response environment. The Administrator may at times be asked to assist other core functions of the video team as needed, including light video editing.

    Requirements:

    Although experience with video files and the DNC’s specific recording and data programs are preferred, they are not expected nor required. Strong familiarity with Windows workstation troubleshooting and repair is required. Candidates should be well-organized and able to multi-task short-term and long-term tasks.  Political experience, judgment and knowledge of the media is preferred. Knowledge of basic web applications with HTML/CSS/JavaScript and a scripting language (e.g. Python, Perl, Ruby) a very strong plus. Must be in DC or be willing to relocate to the Washington, D.C. Area

    Required experience:

    • At least 2 years of on-the-job experience developing web and/or mobile-based applications

    • Experience with MVC/MTV frameworks (eg., Rails, Django, Flask)
    • Experience with unit and functional tests and integration
    • Experience with RESTful Web APIs
    • Experience deploying and administering web applications
    • Comfort and familiarity at all levels of the web application stack: operating systems, databases, application servers, CDNs, caching, etc.

    Required software:

    • Fluency and proficiency in at least one major Web application language (eg., Ruby, Python, NodeJS)
    • Proficiency with open source database systems (MySQL, SQLite, preferably PostgreSQL)
