GOP Candidates

The Declaration of Independence proclaimed that we are all created equal. The pledge of allegiance asserts "liberty and justice for all." Yet the Republican presidential candidates have failed to adequately protect the rights and liberties we hold dear.

Whether it's protecting a woman's right to choose or the idea that everyone should be treated equally under the law, the GOP candidates have failed to live up to the democratic principles that protect us all.

  • Now, Fred Thompson says he is "pro-life" and "Roe vs. Wade was bad law and bad medical science." But in the mid-1990s, the conservative National Review described him as "pro-choice," and a Republican Liberty Caucus newsletter quoted Thompson as saying "The ultimate decision must be made by the women.
  • Only a few years ago, Giuliani repeatedly described himself as pro-choice, and his positions on public funding, parental notification and other issues has changed.
  • Ron Paul voted to ban "partial birth abortion" even if woman's health is at risk.

Not Just One Vote

There's some distortion by John McCain over his many years of opposition to a King holiday, both at the federal and state level. He's trying to make it sound like this was just one vote, a long time ago.
