Among the first votes in the House of Representatives yesterday was a vote to certify the House rules, as proposed by the Republican majority. As their first act in the majority, Republican representatives used this vote to strip certain voting rights from six House delegates who represent taxpayers in the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, the Philippines, and American Samoa.

In a message to supporters, Chairman Tim Kaine urges people to call their senators and ask them to support the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and the passage of the DREAM Act.

Last night, news broke that Senate Democrats would move forward this weekend with final votes on both the DREAM Act and the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." The Senate had planned to use the weekend wrapping up an omnibus spending bill to fund the government, but "nine GOP members had reneged on their pledges to vote for the omnibus spending bill," leaving Sen. Reid several votes "shy of the 60 he'd need to overcome a filibuster."

Senate Democrats agreed to briefly postpone today’s planned vote on their own version of the DREAM Act, and instead likely will consider the version passed last night by the House.

President Obama welcomed last night’s successful vote in the House of Representatives on the DREAM Act, and he called on the Senate to now do the same.
