President Obama supports passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act

Posted by

In 1963, Congress passed the Equal Pay Act, which took important steps towards ensuring wage equality for all Americans. That was almost 50 years ago. It’s 2012, and women still only make 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. This is despite the fact that they make up half of our workforce and bring home money to their families and communities, just as men do.

When women are denied fair pay, they aren’t properly compensated for their hard work and dedication to their communities and to this country. As a result, our entire society loses out. This is why President Obama supported the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 and is also supporting the Paycheck Fairness Act of 2012.

Congress is slated to vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act later this week. Join President Obama in supporting equal pay and civil rights. Spread awareness about paycheck inequality and let your friends and family know about this step towards equal rights.
