Standing up for the President

Posted by Helen Boyer on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. ET

On January 20th, the Obama Administration stood up for women’s health and ensured that women can get the health coverage that they want – including contraception – without expensive co-pays and deductibles. Thanks to the President’s historic health care reform, women all across America can get birth control with no out-of-pocket costs. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently announced that this coverage extends to all religiously-affiliated institutions, except houses of worship.

This latest decision is one of the many victories for women’s health under President Obama’s leadership. The President is ensuring that women are no longer the victims of gender discrimination from insurance companies, making sure women can easily get mammograms and other preventative services at no cost, and is safeguarding women’s health against Republican efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade and block women’s access to health care.

The Minnesota StarTribune recently published an editorial praising the President for his “sensible” decision, because “an employer’s religious beliefs should not dictate the type of drugs or medical procedures covered by their employees’ health insurance plans.” Read the rest of the editorial here.
