Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Decision to Uphold the Affordable Care Act

Earlier today, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. Following that announcement, Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz praised the court’s decision and the benefits of health reform:

Today's decision by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold the Affordable Care Act is a victory for all Americans – from seniors who are able to obtain free preventive care to young people who are able to stay on their parents’ insurance longer.

The Affordable Care Act is not the first legislative achievement to be challenged in the courts – the Social Security Act, Civil Rights Act, and Voting Rights Act all faced legal challenges – nor will it be the last.  But just as other historic legislation designed to fundamentally improve Americans’ well-being earned judicial acceptance, so too do I expect the Affordable Care Act will ultimately be upheld.

I applaud the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeal’s decision today and I look forward to more judicial victories for the Affordable Care Act and the American people in the future.
