With citizens in states across the country already casting votes in the 2012 election, the Democratic National Committee and Obama for America announced that their DNC/OFA “Gotta Vote” Bus Tour will begin in Iowa on Saturday. The tour will roll through up to half a dozen states in the coming weeks where there are upcoming voter registration deadlines, or where there already is or will soon be early voting. The tour will begin in Sioux City, Iowa at 12 PM CDT on Saturday, September 29th . Following the tour’s kickoff in Sioux City, the bus will roll to Council Bluffs for a 3:00 PM CDT early vote event. The bus will remain in Iowa through the beginning of next week with stops across the state.
After stopping in Iowa, the tour will visit other keys states in the lead up the election. DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, DNC Vice Chair R.T. Rybak, governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, mayors, and national celebrities will join the tour to mobilize, register and turn out voters.
President Obama’s vision for America is to keep our country moving forward by building an economy in which every American who works hard and plays by the rules gets a fair shot at the American Dream. That’s how we will create an economy built to last. This election offers the American people the clearest choice we’ve seen in a generation. It’s a choice between two fundamentally different visions for our country’s future. We can fall backward under Mitt Romney, with an economy that trickles from the top down. Or we can keep moving forward with President Obama and rebuild our economy from the middle class out. The "Gotta Vote" Bus Tour will make the following case to voters: If you want to ensure that President Obama can continue in office and keep our country moving forward, you gotta register and you gotta vote.
In Iowa, early voting is a simple and easy way for voters to make sure their voices are heard in this election. Iowa voters can vote early in person starting today, Thursday, September 27, and vote by mail. The “Gotta Vote” Bus Tour will encourage voters to take advantage of early voting and will help voters make sure they are registered to vote.
The DNC will be announcing details of the stops on the “Gotta Vote” Bus Tour in Iowa in the coming days.
