In honor of Veterans Day, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement:
"Generations of Americans have had their patriotism tested by war – and every generation has proved equal to the task. On Veterans Day, we recognize the heroism of the men and women who have risked their lives for the sake of our nation and the freedoms we hold dear.
"Among these brave Americans, some have made the ultimate sacrifice, perishing in battle. Others have suffered terrible wounds that left them with permanent disabilities. And still others are scarred by memories of the carnage they witnessed during conflict.
"On Veterans Day, they all deserve a place in our thoughts. In addition, we have an obligation to remember all those servicemembers who may never see a battlefield but whose work still helps minimize the harm to our soldiers. And we owe gratitude to the families who have raised courageous daughters and sons capable of protecting this nation.
"But let us remember that every day offers a new opportunity to express our thanks to servicemembers -- and that our actions must back up our words. I am proud that President Obama has made it a top priority to help veterans gain access to educational opportunities that will lead to jobs and a better quality of life for their families. Under his leadership, the Administration has worked to ensure that veterans are able to obtain health care, including treatment for mental health injuries. And of course it was this Administration that ended the war in Iraq and that continues to bring troops home from Afghanistan.
"To our servicemen and women, we salute you, and renew our promise to make our country a better place for you to return home after your dedicated service."
