Following Bill de Blasio’s victory in the New York City Mayoral Election, Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released this statement:
“New Yorkers have chosen a mayor today who is passionate about social justice and who will work tirelessly to help create jobs for the middle class. Congratulations to Bill de Blasio, the first Democrat to win a New York City mayoral race in nearly 25 years.
“Bill ran an issues-based campaign that challenged voters to help him expand the middle class and increase opportunity for all. His victory, by such a wide margin, makes it clear this sentiment enjoys broad appeal. With Bill as their Mayor, working families will have greater access to Pre-K education and affordable health care. The new Mayor will also prioritize affordable housing options, ensuring that the city's cost of living is within reach for middle-class residents, who add so much to the city’s vibrancy. This is a great day for Bill de Blasio. It’s an even greater day for the residents of New York City.”
