Following tonight's gubernatorial debate between state Sen. Barbara Buono and Gov. Chris Christie, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement:
"Tonight's debate offered yet another reminder that the people of New Jersey are not being served well by Gov. Chris Christie. The 'comeback' that Christie promised hasn't happened -- not with 400,000 New Jersey residents out of work, the second highest foreclosure rate in the nation and property taxes continuing to rise. This dismal record begs the question, 'Can New Jersey afford four more years under Chris Christie?'
"With Barbara Buono as governor, New Jersey has a chance to make a true comeback. On the issues, Barbara stands with mainstream New Jersey. She supports access to quality, affordable health care for all Garden Staters -- especially New Jersey women. She stands with LGBT New Jerseyans who deserve equal treatment under the law and with New Jersey women who deserve equal pay for equal work. For decades, Barbara has been fighting to build a better life for herself and her children, so when she becomes governor, that same spirit will drive her to fight on behalf of working families.
"New Jersey deserves a leader who will embody their mainstream values and fight for the middle class. That's Barbara Buono's commitment, and it's why Garden Staters should cast their vote for her on November 5th."
