After Republicans in the House finally agreed to an extension of the payroll tax cut that will ensure 160 million Americans continue to receive needed tax relief, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement:
“For working Americans, many of whom are struggling to make ends meet, it is a great relief that House Republicans have finally set aside Tea Party politics and agreed to a payroll tax cut extension, ensuring 160 million Americans continue to get needed tax relief.
"I want to thank President Obama and my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate for their steadfast leadership on the payroll tax cut and for fighting for working families. This was the right thing to do for middle class Americans and all those still trying to reach the middle class, but unfortunately for far too long, Republicans let partisan politics stand in the way. It was about time the GOP put the needs of the middle class ahead of political games and agreed to this important relief. As families around the country come together to celebrate the holidays, this is welcome news. I look forward to joining with my colleagues as we work now for the full-year extension the President has called for—American families deserve nothing less."
