WASSERMAN SCHULTZ NAMES AMY DACEY AS NEW DNC CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Democratic National Committee Chair, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz today named Amy Dacey, a longtime political veteran and top Democratic strategist, as the Party’s new Chief Executive Officer, beginning in January 2014.

“I am thrilled to welcome Amy to the Democratic National Committee,” said DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz in announcing the appointment. “Amy brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and strategic insight that will be instrumental in helping the DNC continue to grow, build on the electoral gains we made in 2012, advocate on behalf of the President’s agenda and prepare a robust campaign operation for 2014 and 2016. Amy’s experience working on campaigns, in the labor movement, on committees and for other progressive causes will make her an invaluable asset to Democrats in every corner of the country.”

Dacey comes to the DNC from EMILY’s List where she has served as Executive Director since early 2010. Under her tenure at EMILY’s List, the organization increased its membership by 500 percent, raised more money per cycle than any time in the organization’s history, expanded its recruitment and training program, and helped elect an historic number of women to Congress.

Prior to joining EMILY’s List, Dacey was Director of Government Relations for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), where she managed the legislative, policy, intergovernmental and executive branch outreach departments for the union.  During the 2006 election cycle she was National Political Director for then-Senator John Kerry’s national leadership PAC after serving as the Traveling Political Director on his 2004 presidential campaign.  She was Deputy Political Director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) for the 2002 election cycle, and for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) during the 2000 cycle.

“I’m honored to join Chair Wasserman Schultz and the great team at the Democratic National Committee as we help advance the President’s agenda and support Democrats all over the country,” said Dacey. “It’s an exciting time to be a Democrat as we work to implement the Affordable Care Act, pass commonsense immigration reform, create jobs and continue our economic recovery. I'm thrilled to come aboard as we focus on maintaining control of the Senate, taking back the House, expanding our map and electing Democrats up and down the ballot and all across the country. We have lots of work to do and are building the team to ensure Democrats have the tools and resources they need to be successful.”

Dacey will take over from Acting Executive Director Laura Santucci who has served in top leadership roles at the DNC since 2011.

“Laura Santucci has long-been an asset to the President on his campaign, at the White House and at the DNC,” said Wasserman Schultz.  “She is a rising star in our party and has done a phenomenal job leading the DNC as Acting Executive Director during the transition."

Dacey's hiring is the latest sign that the DNC is moving into high gear as it ramps up for 2014 and beyond.  She is the latest in a series of top-tier professionals that Wasserman Schultz has recruited in recent months, including Digital Director Matt Compton, Voter Protection Director Pratt Wiley, Communications Director Mo Elleithee, Deputy Communications Director Lily Adams, National Hispanic Media Director Pili Tobar and many others. Additionally, the DNC announced that September was its most successful fundraising month this year and is on pace for the last two months to be the most successful period of online fundraising at Democrats.org in the institution’s history.

“The DNC is an organization on the move,” said Dacey.  “As someone who’s long been committed to a progressive agenda and electing Democrats, I’m thrilled to be joining the team."
